ASSIGNMENT

Your assignment is to draw an ambigram by hand.

An ambigram is a word that, when viewed from a different perspective, reveals the same (or a different) word. There is a lot of interaction involved in the ambigram development process, and you have to constantly analyze your sketches from a different perspective. It is much easier to turn a piece of paper than a computer screen!

Starting with a simple word, you will see how different typographic styles affect the legibility and readability. Afterwards, you’ll discover how to evaluate the ambigram potential of a word, and will be asked to select several words to evaluate. In the end, one of those words will become your final ambigram!

DELIVERABLE

Share your ambigram development process in the Project Gallery. A completed project should include:

The ambigram analysis of the word you chose to turn into an ambigram
Rough exploratory sketches throughout the ambigram development process
Any random doodles that have contributed to your thought process
Final detailed sketches
The final hand-drawn ambigram

Aside from the items above, upload the natural ambigrams you will have found (from Exercise 1), and your sample ambigram analysis (from Exercise 2.) Don't wait until you're finished with the project to start uploading your progress — jump in right away and use the project gallery as your workspace to share initial ideas and rough sketches. I'll give feedback throughout. I will also be uploading some other hand-drawn ambigrams and bonus content as time goes on.
