This article is especially for students deciding on blending classes to take on the Skillshare platform. I now have 3 different classes with a focus on blending with essential oils for student to choose from:

While they have some similarities, there are also some notable differences between them- which is what I’m going to explain for you here. Get ready- here goes!

#1 Creative essential oil blending challenge

This was the first blending class I put together for Skillshare. It goes into the following topic areas:

#2 Make a natural perfume using essential oils

This class actually builds out of the creative blending challenge class. It provides the student with a much more detailed blending wheel- one that is more tailored for perfume blending. It includes lectures on:

How to use the fragrance wheel
How to form your perfume concept and story
Describing perfume
Creating accords
Floral accords
Oriental accords
Woody accords
Citrus and fresh accords

The projects for this class are to make both a roll on and solid perfume.

#3 Scenting your soap using essential oils

This class is brand NEW! Hot off the press!

Although this class is targeted for cold process soap makers, anyone who wants to learn about blending for products will benefit. This class has a brief review of the key blending concepts from the creative challenge class, but adds MORE and different information not presented in either of the other two classes. The outline for this class includes:

Review of basic blending concepts
Criteria for choosing your essential oils
4 blending styles
Blending personalities
Peek into my blending process
Natural colorants to reinforce scent cues
Using infused herbal oils and textural elements in your soap formula
Using infused butters
Bonus tips

The project for this class is to make a new essential oil blend to use in your next soap formula.

Note: I do not teach how to make cold process soap in this class- you will need to already have a favorite soap recipe to use for your class project. If you don’t make soap, you can skip the bits that discuss that and just head for the additional blending info.
