It’s Go Time!

There’s no better time to start than now. For this project we’ll be drawing botanicals - flowers, petals or leaves. They’re great subject matter because they’re organic and natural – meaning that you don’t have to be able to draw a perfectly straight line. In fact, wobbly lines are even better!

By the end of the project, you’ll have your own fun and quirky flower illustration that’s completely vector based and glorious!

Now that you know what the assignment is, start with step 1 and upload your completed sheet into your class project. You can update your project as you move onto the next steps.

Step 1:
I’ve created a simple worksheet for you to download to get some line work practice in. We’re focusing on creating dynamic lines and getting a feel for working with pen pressure.

To download this file, click on the resource titled “Practice sheet_CS5.” This is an Adobe Illustrator document available to open on version CS5 or higher.

Step 2:
Now that you’ve warmed up your hands and got a feel for the technique, upload your own drawing to trace in illustrator. If you’d like, you can use one of my supplied images titled “lily,” "rose," or "tulip" instead.

Step 3:
Ink that baby and add some colour! Refer back to the videos above if you get stuck. Or even better, upload your project for some feedback.

Step 4:
You’re done! Save out your image in your desired format and share it through your social platforms. Show your friends and family! Be loud and be proud, after all your hard work, you deserve an applause. :)
