Shadows and Highlights - this was a tough one to tackle! I used the grid method to get my dog, Kira, on the canvas. Studying the shapes that make up her face as I went. At one point, I stopped and actually drew in the shapes I saw in the shadows to help with placement on her face (see below).

I know it could still use a little work on the "dark side" of her face, but I couldn't figure out how to get it just right. My favorite part are her eyes and nose.

Drawing from imagination! Mr. Starnosed Mole having a cup of tea. This was fun and really stretched my old art muscles from ages ago.

Claire's Projects - image 4 - student project Grid project! It was fun, but a little challenging with the feathers. I think I was focusing too much on making the feathers look real, rather than putting in the impression of feathers. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with it! Next time I might try to add a little more style instead of trying to make it look real.

The toucan I had fun experimenting with some of the brushes I recently purchased, mainly a scumble brush from MattyB and some texture stamps for the background from Lisa Glanz (as well as her pencil, which I love). I was worried about dong the upside down rabbit at first. How could I possibly draw this!? But I focused on the lines and shapes and how they related to each other, as Brooke said to do. Viola! Not half bad! Actually, I'm quite pleased. I think my White Rabbit looks friendlier than the original. And a little chubbier. :)
