The purpose of the class is to help you explore your creative style and develop a habit of drawing everyday. Your class projects is in three parts:

Part 1: Get inspired

To get back into drawing, I started to look for different illustrators on Instagram. There’s such a wealth of talented artists online from which we can learn from.

Your first project is to share an Instagram account from an artist you like. Tell us what is their specialty (ex: photography, digital art etc.) and what you like about their art.

Example 1: https://www.instagram.com/illymuzliza.art is a digital artist. I love her art because she uses vibrant colours and creates fashionable characters, sometimes using animals.

Example 2: https://www.instagram.com/twelvepapercranes is a traditional artist that uses Posca markers. I love her art because it is very simple and recognizable. In each post, she includes a picture of her markers next to her art as a reference.

Part 2: Get started

I always get very excited about going to art shops to look at all the different supplies. You too should look forward to creating art everyday and be inspired by the tools you will be using.

Your second project is to tell us more about yourself. Tell us who you are and share a photo of the medium you will be using.

Example: Hi, I’m Simon. I’m a Canadian living in Denmark. I will be using a mechanical pencil, a Rollerball Pen Micro 0.4mm and a dotted Moleskine notebook to document my creative journey.

Part 3: Being accountable

It can feel terrifying to share your creative journey with others. I always recommend my students to first share their story with at least one friend or a familiar online community to help them stay accountable in maintaining their goal.

The last part of this project is to tell your drawing objective to someone your trust (ie. a friend, a spouse, an online community, Skillshare Student Projects etc.). Share with us what you said to them.

Bonus points if you include a photo of one of your artwork or process.

Example 1: Direct message to a friend

Hi, in the last few weeks I’ve gathered the motivation to get back into drawing again through a class on Skillshare. I’ve always loved sketching and I’ve been able to pick up the habit again. I’m taking baby steps and I’d like to share with you some of my work when I feel ready. My goal is to draw everyday for the next 30 days. I just wanted to share this with you, to help me stay focused on my goal.

Example 2: Personal Instagram account

I always loved drawing but I lost the habit when I first started my career five years ago. Thanks to several online classes, I recently bought a very nice sketchbook and started drawing again. After sketching everyday for 30 consecutive days, I finally decided to splurge on an iPad. I wanted to share with you my progress below. I will be launching an Instagram account within the month, so keep an eye for my artist page.
