As a main project, we will be applying a 2D texture onto a 3D object, for rendering and 3D printing.

More specifically, we will be applying a dragon scale texture on a basic ring band.

I will supply both an example texture and the basic ring object. You can also follow along as I build the ring.

You are welcome to work with any texture that you like. I will give some pointers and inspiration what to look for in a jewelry texture (find the Pinterest board here).

Also, feel free to use any other 3D model that you want to try this technique on. A ring is just a nice comfy object and a jewelry staple. It also has some peculiarities which will help you understand the intricacies of creating 3D printable texture in no time.

We apply the texture (also supplied), and tweak things like size, orientation and placement.

In the end, you will have created a very detailed and complex texture on your design with ease! Which can then be rendered, 3d printed and cast.
