1. Welcome to the Course: Welcome to the YouTube marketing class. My name is Philip Dinner. I'm the founder of Video School Online, and I'm so excited to have you here in this class. You're going to learn how to grow your business with YouTube. I'm going to show you the exact strategies that I've used to grow my own seven figure business in hopes that you can use some of these best practices to increase your business as well. So what exactly are you going to learn in this class? You learn how to start your own channel, how to create great videos on any budget that do convert to customers how to get more subscribers and understanding why subscribers are so important on YouTube. They're going to learn a variety of specific sales, funnel tactics and techniques, different ways to get customers from your YouTube videos, ultimately to buying a product and how to advertise using your own YouTube videos. The way that I've organized this course is a little bit backwards if you're completely brand new to YouTube, so we start off with different sales funnel ideas. Then we talk about optimizing your videos and your YouTube channel, and then finally at the end of the course is a complete section on starting out on YouTube . So how you create your profile, how you set up in upload videos, your default settings, all of those things. So if you're brand new to YouTube, you might want to skip ahead to those later sections before coming back to the more marketing sections early on. But we wanted to start off with the best content first. The sales funnel idea is the optimization and then the advertising aspect of YouTube as well. With all of my courses, I know that they might not be perfect when I launched them. So I look forward to hearing feedback from you as you take this course ways that I can make it better if there's things that you're not understanding fully. If there's things that I glanced over too quickly or didn't cover at all, please send me a message and let me know how I could make the course better. But let's get straight to the course content, and in the next lesson, I'm gonna be talking more about why you should be using YouTube as a marketer 2. Why You Need to Be on YouTube: you probably enrolled in this class knowing that YouTube is a platform you should be on as a business. You might have heard the saying that YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, and that's true. And that's one of the reasons why it's great to be on YouTube. According to some latest data, 3.25 1,000,000,000 hours of YouTube content is watch every single month. That's a lot of time people are spending on YouTube, and if you can even capture a fraction of that time, you'll be able to grow an audience and grow your business with some of that time spent watching your own content. Now on Lee is YouTube being watched a lot, but it's the main source of content watched by many people. MAWR 18 to 49 year olds watch YouTube content than traditional broadcast or cable television, so it's a great way to get in front of that audience prime for being a part of your business compared to the old techniques of broadcast television or cable. And one of the reasons why YouTube is so popular is because people prefer watching video over reading text, you know, If you're on Facebook or other social media platforms, that video has become a more popular form of sharing people's lives and stories. And when you're going through your Facebook stream, you Seymour arm or video every single day, every single month video is taking over the world, and it's important toe. Learn how to make videos and how to use videos properly, especially if you have a business. Another reason why I love YouTube for growing your business is that it helps you understand who your audience is by giving you really great analytics. Once you have a channel up and running, you can see what the demographics are for the people watching your videos. Are they men? Are they women? Are they young? Are they old? Where they living? What languages do they speak? What other topics are they interested in? This allows you to understand your target audience, your specific target customer, and it allows you to create video content and also perhaps pivot your business to serve that audience. You don't have to waste your time or money on content creation or advertisements doing things like traditional newspaper advertising or television advertising. It's really hard to understand who your target audience is without the great analytics that YouTube provides. One of the other great things, if you're using YouTube, is that you can repurpose that content for other platforms like Facebook, you can embed videos on your own website. You can turn videos into blogged articles, text based blogger articles, which is great for S CEO to grow your website and to increase your traffic. So for me, YouTube has been this awesome way to create content to serve the YouTube audience, but also to repurpose that content and grow my brand outside of the YouTube world. So hopefully by now you understand that YouTube is a great place to be as a business in the modern world. In the next section of the course, you're going to be learning exactly how to set up different types of marketing funnels with YouTube 3. YouTube Funnel Idea 1 - The Direct Sale: welcome to this new section in the YouTube marketing course. This section is all about different sales funnels. You can set up using YouTube videos so each video is going to describe a different type of sales funnel and a different process that people go through your funnel and the way that each of these lessons is going to work as I'm going to show you the sales funnel on how it works. And then I'm going to give you an example and show you an example from my YouTube channel of how I'm implementing this. So here's the most basic form of a sales final where someone comes to your video. It's a sales video. They find the video somehow, whether it's through searching on YouTube or on Google. Or maybe it was posted or shared on social media. Somehow they find that video and they're watching that video, and in that video, you're pitching your product. Right now, they're actually at the start of the funnel already. They're consuming your content, and in that video you direct them to a sales page where you can buy the product mentioned in that video. So that's the next step of the sales funnel. And then they either buy that product or they don't. And that results in a customer and some revenue or nothing. So this I like to call it the direct sales funnel where you're not getting anyone toe opt into an email list. There's not a long email sequence or a sales marketing funnel process is just pitching your product and seeing if they want to buy it. So let's look at a couple examples of how I'm doing this with my own YouTube channel. Here are two videos for two different classes, and they are actually the promotional videos sort of the advertisement for the classes. One is a photography for kids class, and the other is a photography masterclass, which is a more complete photography class. Here's the photography for kids class. I posted this a while ago. This is one of my oldest courses. Back in 2013 was when we launched, and today we have over 26,000 views and right at the top of the description, we have a link to enroll in the class, so don't worry about exactly how you link out to your products and use YouTube in that sense yet that's going to be covered in the next section of the course. But right now, basically they're watching the video, and then they're able to click on the sales page for this class right here. Similarly, if we go to the photography match a class promo, this has over 130,000 views, and it was launched in 2015. So a much more popular video. And again, we have a link directly to the course, right at the top of the description, which is one of the most common ways to link out to either a sales page or to your own website on YouTube. There's other tools, like YouTube cards and end screens that we can use, but we're gonna get to that in the next section. Thes videos basically explain what the product is, which is an online course, and so for you, it would be some sort of commercial or promotion for whatever your product or service is. And then some sort of call to action saying, Click the link down below or click the link in the description to purchase this product. The other cool thing. I just want to show you about YouTube. Is that YouTube? Because it's the largest search engine, second largest search engine in the world, and it's owned by Google. You get a lot of s CEO juice from being on YouTube. So if you search for photography for kids on Google, our class actually shows up on the first page of results as this YouTube video. And then if anyone clicks on the videos tab, it shows up as the very first video here, and we get a lot of clicks and views directly from searches like this. So if you do have a popular video on YouTube, you're not only going to get traffic from YouTube itself, but other search engines like Google or being so that's that the direct sales funnel in the next lesson, we're going to be looking at a softer sales funnel 4. YouTube Funnel Idea 2 - The Soft Sale: in this video, I'm going to show you what I call these soft sail funnel similar to the funnel before. It's very simple. You have someone watching a video, and then the funnel is literally just them clicking to a sales page and either deciding to make that purchased or not. But the video itself is different. It's an entertainment. It's educational. It's something that is not a sales pitch, so you can see here in this graphic I call a non sales of video. It can be any type of video where it's not just a sales pitch. Within this video, you might, at the end of the video or in the middle, do things like calls to actions or little promotions for the content, which is a good idea. But the video itself and the reason people find this video by searching on YouTube or other search engines is not because they're looking for a product to buy. But maybe it's because they want to be entertained or they're looking to learn something new. And of course, if the viewer does go through the entire sales funnel, you end up with the customer and revenue. So let's look at a couple of examples how I'm using this type of sales final. Here are four videos that are related to my products and services, but they're not direct sales. So here is a tutorial on how to create titles and graphics in Premiere Pro. You can see that this video has been watched 273,000 times and again, at the top of the description, I have a link to a class that's related to this topic. So someone that is searching for this tutorial on creating titles in Premiere Pro, which is a video editing software, might be interested in learning more about Premiere Pro with a complete Premier Pro course . Here's another premiere pro video that is the start of this funnel, but it's not as soft, all say, because this is an hour of free lessons from the course itself. Whereas this tutorial was a completely separate tutorial, not in the class. This video that I posted to YouTube was I took a portion of the online class and put it on YouTube for free. This has worked really well for converting viewers into purchasers because they get a sense for what the class is all about. It's a lot of great content, and hopefully, by the end of this video, they're thinking while if this is the free content, I definitely need the paid content. Here are a couple other videos This is a canvas tutorial. Canvas dot com is a great way to create graphics online. It's an online based application, and this is sort of a quick general overview of Canada. But we have a complete course that's expanded with projects. And so, unlike this video here from Premier Pro, it's not free content from the course. But it is sort of more of a general overview that is exactly related to the course content . Unlike this 1st 1 which is sort of an offshoot on off topic. And lastly, because that Premiere Pro course preview has worked so well, I've done that with some other classes of mine. Here's a WordPress for beginners tutorial over 30 minutes of free content from the course, and just like the premiere pro cores, I linked to the full course down here, hoping that if someone watches this preview, they'd be interested in enrolling in the full class. So you might be saying fill. This is great, but I don't teach online classes, and my business isn't about selling online classes. So what kind of content can I create that similar to this? In the next section, I'm going to give you a list of types of videos that you can create any business can create . But just to start thinking about what types of videos would your customer be interested in ? That is not a sales video. If your company makes some sort of tool or something, for example, you can create videos on how to use that tool or different types of projects that can be created with that tool. A lot of people come to YouTube to be entertained toe laugh. And so we think of ways where you can actually create sort of a more scripted, funny video where your product or service might be a part of it. But it's not being heavily promoted in the video. It's just within that video. Think about what problems your company solves. I mean, every company should be solving some sort of problem. That's why you are in business. Think about those problems and answer those questions in videos. Answer. How can your product or service solve those problems? People are going to be searching on YouTube for how to solve X Y Z problem, and if your video pops up, then that's a good a chance to make this sort of soft sale. The idea with this softer sales funnel is to give out free, high quality content that entertains and educates a viewer and is not a direct sales pitch . While fewer people might end up on your sales page, it's a way to grow that audience trust, which helps down the road when you do ultimately pitch to them. But like the previous direct sales funnel, if they don't make that purchase, it's a lot harder to follow up with that customer. So when the next lessons, we're going to show you some more sophisticated sales funnel ideas where you can capture that audience is information and then make the sale 5. YouTube Funnel Idea 3 - The Email Marketing Funnel: in this lesson, I'm going to show you a more traditional marketing funnel using YouTube. I call it the email sequence funnel. So at the top of the video again, you have a video where someone is watching that video and to get someone into your funnel. The first thing isn't pitching a product to them and hoping they click on that sales page and end up purchasing a product. But you're getting them eventually onto an email list. Usually this means pitching some sort of bonus content to them that they click onto this can go to your website, where it may be a blogger article. Or maybe it's other sort of some sort of download that's hosted on your site or another site. Or maybe it's directly to a page with an opt in form for your email list. If that bonus content is not in itself a lead magnet, meaning something that you give away in exchange for an email, perhaps on that bonus content page is an opt. In form is a place where you are pitching some sort of lead magnet in exchange for their email address, and I'm gonna show you a couple of examples. So don't worry if you're a little confused on what that exactly means right now, Once they get that bonus content, they download that lead magnet and they're opted into your email list. You put them through an email sequence, and at some point in that email sequence, you are going to pitch to them. You will be sending them to a sales page or somehow giving them the opportunity to make a purchase. Email sequences can be as simple or as confusing as you want them to be. Some of my sequences are 10 20 emails long where I'm not pitching to them until maybe the 12th or 13th email, and those ones might end up running for a few weeks or months. Other emails sequences of mine are just a few emails that go out once per day, and on the third day they get an email pitch for a product that I think they might be interested in. The key with having a successful email marketing campaign is targeting a specific customer with your videos and with your e mails and providing content in those emails that relates to that target customer. You don't want to be sending emails about topics and products and services that they wouldn't be interested in. The cool thing is that because they're being sent from a YouTube video, you already know what kind of stuff they might be interested in because they're coming from that video. And with most modern email marketing tools like Convert Kit or a Weber or Mail chimp or really, any of the others, you can segment your list. Your subscriber is into different sequences. You can tag them as different types of people, depending on what opt in form they come in through. So, for example, I might have a general email sequence for people who are interested in photography. And then I might have a separate one for people who are interested in video production and then maybe a separate one for people interested in motion graphics. And then when people watch different types of videos of mine on YouTube, I will send them to those different types of opt informs that result in those different email sequences, or I might be even more specific and create a specific email sequence for a specific video . So if I have a video on personal finance I might have an email sequence that is related to that video and on Lee talks about content or things related to that specific concept of that video. Okay, so I know you might be a little confused now, so let's hop over to YouTube so I can show you how this actually works in the real world. Speaking of motion graphics, here is an example of a motion graphic tutorial that I created using after effects. And this again isn't something directly from my product, which is a course, but it's related to it. And if someone searches for a lower third tutorial, they might end up wanting one of my courses. The bonus content for this video is a downloadable template. I mentioned the template in the beginning of the video, and at the top of my description, I have a link to a page on my website where they can download the template itself. This helped them while they work through the tutorial. An easy way to offer downloads is a website called gum road dot com gum like chewing gum and then rode like ST Gum Road. So on my website they can clicked link to download this template, it's free, or they can even pay a little bit. That's the cool thing about Gum Road is. You can offer them a product for free, and if they want, they can actually pay for it. And actually a lot of students a lot of viewers do, and a purchasing it rather than just getting it for free. And then when they download this, I get their email address through gum road dot com. You can offer a download another way, using your email marketing tool like Convert kit, where you can actually give a download automatically once they opt into an email list. So this is a little bit more of a roundabout way of getting people from Gum Road onto my email list. But the cool thing is that a lot of these different modern marketing tools integrate with each other, so I use convert kit for my email marketing. But Gum Road actually connects and integrates with convert kit, so if anyone purchases a product of mine on gum road, they automatically get added as a subscriber, and I can add them to specific sequences. Here's another example, and this is a tutorial on how to use mint dot com, the sort of finance management tool, and this video was posted in 2016 60,000 views. So in this sales funnel, I offer a bonus piece of content, which is this ultimate guide to personal finance. This takes the viewer to my website, video school online dot com, and this is a big article that has a couple of different ways for people to hop in. One is a free mini course on personal finance principles, and then on the right hand side, I have an opt in form in my sidebar, which is just a subscription to my newsletter where they get weekly tips. The free course also gets people onto my email list because when people purchased this free course, which is hosted with Teachable, another cool online platform for selling and giving online courses two people it's a free course, and this also integrates with convert kit. So when they sign up for this course, they automatically get added to my email list. This mini course is a part of the full personal finance class that we have, so this is similar to my soft sales funnel, where people will get free content and then ultimately be pitched the full content and may or may not purchase. But with this funnel, they're getting into my email list before being pitched to. And that's cool, because if they don't purchase from the initial pitch again pitched to them later on, I can warm them up, send them or educational content, and then pit tryto get them to buy later. Well, this class isn't about email marketing, and I'm not going to dive into how to set up a proper email sales final. We have another digital marketing class on that, and I have another email marketing class on that. I do want to give you a sneak peek at my email sequences, so you understand that it doesn't have to be too complicated here. In Convert Kit, you can see all of the different sequences that I have set up in, depending on where someone ops in, they get on different lists. Here's this personal finance principles list. So this is when people sign up for that mini course. And so this is just a six email sequence that goes through some basic finance principles that encourages them to watch the free mini course. And then at the end, I offer the full personal finance masterclass. Here's another photo fundamentals sequence. I also have videos on YouTube that pitch this free photo course, and this one is just a three day sequence in the 1st 2 days are all about adding value, trying to get them toe, wash the lessons, giving them or advice so that they began toe like know and trust me so that on the third day, when I do pitch the full course to them, they're more likely to buy. And then here's a little sequence for people who sign up for that often form that we saw on the sidebar of my website. So here this weekly tips. Once you subscribe to that, not only do you get a weekly email with my latest articles or video tutorials, but you also get a couple extra emails that introduce myself. And so this introduces my business, what I have to offer my tutorials courses as well. So this is a very soft sale of my courses. Some people sign up and then automatically start enrolling in courses here, and then I also add to it later on so I try to warm them up even more. I tell them to subscribe on YouTube to follow us on instagram toe like us on Facebook again , just trying to warm them up so that at the end of this basically three day sequence as well , they can get a free month of our monthly membership on video school online. And this is a good general promotion to my audience when they sign up for that opt inform on the sidebar. I don't know exactly, and I don't track exactly what page they come from, even though I could, it just would take a lot of work. I would have to create a new option for him for every single page. And when people come to that block article, I could tag them as a specific type of follower, which actually might not be a bad idea. But to keep it easy, which I like to do. I like keeping these things simple. I just have a general opt in form. They all get the same email, and then they give this great deal with one month free trial for all of my courses. If you have another type of business, while a trial membership might be a great offer. Maybe you have some sort of special coupon code 10% off, 25% off all of your products that you send to them. You know, a few days later to sort of that general email list that you start. While it's good to have different option forms and different sequences for different people coming from different videos and different content, as you can see here, this is going to convert better than just one general email list. You might want to just start out by setting up your basic automated email funnel for anyone who signs up on your website. It's a great place to start by now. I hope you understand this email sequence. Marketing funnel. It's more of your traditional sales funnel, capturing that lead, capturing that email address before pitching to them. There's lots of different ways how this can look. Different types of videos can lead to different types of opt informs with different types of lead magnets. ABS, I've shown you with different types of sequences. At the end of the day, though, try not to worry too much. Keep it simple. Start with one funnel, and then you can branch out and make them more specific. Two different types of audiences in the next couple of videos. I'm going to show you some different types of I'll call them funnels, but basically other ways to make money with YouTube. 6. YouTube Funnel Idea 4 - The Subscriber Funnel: in this lesson, you're going to learn about the subscriber funnel. The basis of this funnel is that you're getting people to subscribe to your YouTube channel before you're offering anything or before they're getting into any sort of other type of funnel, like an email sequence funnel. Here, you can see that I call it a call to action video, but it could be any type of video. It could be a promotional video, educational entertainment, really any video. The key is that using calls toe action will increase the rate at which people subscribe calls to actions within the video and also in things like your description and using your cards, I'll be showing you how to do this later on. In the course when they watch a video the top of the final, the first up is getting them to subscribe. Once they subscribed, they're more likely to watch more of your video's. They're getting notifications. Your video show up on their home page. There's a tab dedicated to videos that you are subscribed to on YouTube, one of the tabs that I go to a lot and I know other you tubers. Our viewers use a lot, too. And then once they watch more of your videos and they become warmer, perhaps your other promotional videos that you post later or videos they find on your channel later they're going to be more likely to convert from those direct sales videos. Or they're gonna be more likely to convert in an email sequence funnel. And at the end of the day, the goal again is toe. Create customer and to make some revenue. Let's look at an example of how I'm doing this. Here is the channel trailer that I have, which is important for any YouTube channel. It's a video that pops up first when anyone who is not a subscriber visit your channel page . I'm gonna pause the video here because you can see that I have a specific called action. I'm talking about it. You don't hear that, but I'm talking about it and it's showing up in a graphic form. To subscribe. All this video does is explain what the channel is about, what it has to offer, and really, the goal with this video is to get people to subscribe. So while I have lots of other videos where I mentioned subscribe. Now, if you like this video, those don't convert as well as this specific call to subscribe Channel trailer. I show you how to set up this channel trailer in the basics of YouTube section later on this course. But let me just go to my channel itself right now. This is what my channel looks like when you aren't subscribed. This video automatically starts playing, getting people to subscribe. There's the big subscribe button on the YouTube channel page itself so encouraging people to subscribe. And this plays before any other video. And I've set up my channel toe, have different playlists and groups of videos. But the 1st 1 I want them watching if they're new to my channel is the trailer. Here I am on my subscriptions tabs. So you get an inside look at the type of people that I subscribed to. You can see them all here on the left as well. And this is one the pages I come to first as a YouTube viewer because I want to see if anyone that I follow and subscribe to has posted new video. So I've got a combination of video creators, photographers, cat channels, personal finance business, cycling, all kinds of people that I subscribed to. I'm actually relatively picky on who I subscribe to because I don't want I don't like my subscription page getting too crowded with videos that I'm not interested anymore. But as a subscriber, I know, and I trust these YouTubers more than anyone else. And at the end of the day, that's what you want from your customers for them, toe like No, entrust you. That's the subscriber funnel, which adds one more step before all of the other funnels that we've mentioned before. In the next video, I'm going to show you another quote unquote funnel another way to make money on YouTube. 7. YouTube Funnel Idea 5 - YouTube Ad Revenue: in this lesson, you're going to learn about the ad revenue model, not you. Promoting your videos with ads, but how you can make money from your own YouTube videos from other people putting ads on your video. You know the ads that pop up in front of YouTube videos, the ones that you have to skip after a few seconds when people click those links. The creator of that video makes some money. The amount of money differs depending on if the video and the content and topic of that video is valuable to advertisers or not. For example, a compilation of funny videos probably won't be as valuable as a dog training Siris of videos, because with the dog training videos, advertisers related to dog training can target that exact customer. The way the funnel actually works is that people find your videos, they watch your video, and then while they're washing that video, either before the video plays or during it, they click on an ad that pops up on the video. You may make money from people clicking on that ad, or perhaps just from that impression of the odd for people who watch it, not necessarily click it at the end of the day. This doesn't result in a customer for you, but it does result in revenue. Let me show you a few of my videos that have done best with making ad revenue. And let me talk about why these videos have made the most throughout of revenue and what you should be doing. If you want to make more money on YouTube through ad revenue, one of my passions is personal finance. So from time to time I will put together some sort of educational video or tutorial about personal finance here. This video is about the 4% rule, which basically is what some people use as determining how much money you need to retire this video. Since 2015 has received over 500,000 views, and from those views, some people have actually clicked on ads. Not only do I get ad revenue from this video, but I've linked to a related course the personal finance masterclass, and I make money from that as well, Which is cool because you can do multiple funnels with one single video if you want. Here's another video how to retire early and with these videos, I spent a little bit of extra time making it high quality, a little entertaining with motion graphics and is on a topic that is search for a lot on YouTube and online in general. This one has over 700,000 views since 2015 as well. And then, lastly, this is a top 10 videos for how to earn passive income. And while you can see how young I look there, at least I think I look a little bit hunger. Still have my ear rings in there while ah, and I get comments on that a lot. Why should I listen to someone that looks like me on top? 10 ways to earn passive income. But at the end of the day, this video has gotten over a 1,000,000 views. 14,000 likes since 2015. So what do all these videos have in common? They're all about personal finance, and these are the videos that have earned me the most money on YouTube. It's against YouTube policy to share exact numbers on how much you make through YouTube ads . But what I can tell you is that from thes three videos alone, I've made over $10,000 over the past couple of years. All of this is completely passive. Since creating the video, some people want to use YouTube just like this to make money to earn a living. I will say that it's a bit harder to make a full time income from just ad revenue. You'll need a channel that is consistent, has a lot of subscribers and is valuable to advertisers, something that probably won't happen overnight. A lot of people in my other YouTube classes have asked, Why aren't my videos being viewed? Why can't I get subscribers? And they're only a month or two months in? Sometimes they're only a year in, or maybe only two or three years. And I'm saying Onley one or two years because I want you to understand that for most YouTubers, it takes a long time to grow an audience and to get videos that have this amount of views. Now, if you look at my channel, none of my personal videos have gone viral in the sense of getting a lot of traffic. Thousands of views in the first sort of weeks of launching them or in a short amount of time. All of my videos have sort of grown slowly over time. Those three videos ended up being my most popular videos and in turn made me the most money from ad revenue. So you might be wondering, Phil, why don't you create more videos like that on YouTube? And the truth is that I could make more money from not non YouTube ad revenue from selling my own products and services, then from YouTube Odd revenue With my videos, I'd rather spend my time creating content about video production, photography motion graphics because I can sell my other products, which is the majority of my products through those videos. If at the end of the day, all I wanted to do was make YouTube ad revenue, though, I would look at my analytics. And it's easy to see that personal finance videos are the ones that do the best, are very popular and make the most money. And then I would just create more videos on that topic. But as I mentioned, this didn't happen overnight, and understanding those analytics won't happen overnight as well. So while you're building your YouTube channel, remember to keep your expectations low it's hard to predict what videos will go viral or which ones will be your most popular. But when you do have popular videos, understand why they went popular. What was the topic? Who is that audience? And perhaps use those analytics to create more videos like that? That's how you grow your channel not only in subscribers and views, but also in ad revenue with this funnel. 8. YouTube Funnel Idea 6 - Promoting Your Own Videos: in this lesson, I'm going to explain the YouTube ad funnel, which is when you actually promote a video on YouTube as an advertisement will show you exactly how to set this up later in the course. But basically you pick a video or you upload a video as an ad, and it plays in front of other people's videos. The goal is for people to click your ad, and you send them either to your own channel to subscribe or to an opt in form or a sales page. So the funnel starts out with someone viewing your ad. They click your ad, you direct them to a sales page or an opt in form or your channel, and then from there they might end up on an email sequence. If it was to opt in form or to your website. And in the end of the funnel, you either end up with a subscriber who you can put through the other funnel like an email sequence funnel or you've made a sale and you've made revenue. I don't need to show you an example of what this looks like right now, but we will go over that in a future lesson, but basically just understand that the YouTube ad funnel is putting an advertisement in front of any of the other funnels. The sales funnel, the direct sales, the soft sales funnel or even the email sequence funnel. Thanks so much for watching, and we'll see in the next lesson. 9. Get More Views with Better SEO: Welcome to this new section on optimizing your YouTube videos to get mawr views and with more views, you will result in Mawr people going through your different sales funnels and ultimately, more revenue. So we're continuing sort of the backwards sort of style of this class, where in this section we're learning about optimization. We might be talking about things like adding key words and tags to your videos. If you don't understand what we're talking about, please continue with the course before answering questions. Or go ahead and skip to the last sections of this course about setting up your channel, where you learn the specifics of how to do those things. But again, like I mentioned at the beginning of this course, I wanted to structure it so that we get to the good stuff first for people who already know how to set up their YouTube channel. This first lesson is about getting more views with better S CEO practices as CEO stands for search engine optimization and is basically making sure that the content that you upload to YouTube is optimized is best set up so that people can find it the main ways this happens is through your titles, your description, your video tags and even close captions having keywords or key phrases, the things that people will type into the search bar to find your video in those things titles, tax descriptions and close captions will help it appear more if your video is about Adobe Premiere Pro. You want to make sure that Adobe Premiere Pro is in the title of the tags and the descriptions and adding your own close captions helps YouTube automatically adds close captions toe all videos, but sometimes they aren't 100% correct, so it would be best to go through them and edit them to make them correct and make sure that those keywords air spell it properly. But if you're making a video about Premiere Pro like, I do different tutorials using it, you don't want to just include the keyword Premiere Pro because that's not really helping someone who searches for premier. Pro people that just heard for Premier Pro are probably looking for how to purchase or how to download the application. So you need to go a step further and maybe it's more focus into a premiere pro tutorial, so your keyword or key phrase included in all these things again would be Premiere Pro Tutorial, but it might even go a little bit further. Maybe it's a premiere pro tutorial on creating new titles or using the new title panel in Premiere Pro. So including those specific keywords is even more important so that when people search how to create new titles in Premiere Pro, your video will show up. So this is the first tip for better as CEO, including those keywords and key phrases. What will a YOUTUBER be typing in to find your video? The next tip is to compete for keywords with popular videos, do research to find keywords used by others. And I'm gonna show you in just a second how you confined the keywords used by any video on YouTube. One cool thing that YouTube allows you to do right now to is see the ranking of your specific keyword or key phrase used in your tag, and I'll show you in that in just a second as well. Another thing to do is to include your brand's name in the titles, tags and description. This increases chances of showing up in suggested videos which are the videos that YouTube shows on your video page or other people's videos that are related to that video. And by including your brand name. The algorithm of YouTube picks that up and sees. While all of these videos air tagged with video school online, for example, it must mean that these videos air somewhat related. So when we play one YouTube video from videos go online, the others that are tagged with video school online are more likely to show up. And the reason that is good is because if someone watches one video, they're more likely toe watch another video if it shows up in that suggested bar, another piece of advice for improving S CEO has to do with thumbnails. You might be thinking. Well, thumbnails is they're just images. So how does that help S CEO with not just thumbnails but titles as well. You want to match the viewers expectation. So when they search for something and they read the title of your video or they see the thumbnail of your video and then they click on it, expecting to see what they typed in and search for or expecting toe, see something related to that thumb now and then. The video is about something else than your CEO, and your ranking is actually going to be hurt because one of the key analytics that YouTube uses to rank videos well is how long and how much engagement of video has. If two videos are five minutes long and one is consistently being watched for three of the minutes and one is only being watched for the 1st 10 or 15 seconds, the video that's being watched for three minutes will ultimately be ranked higher, even if it has fewer views in total. And that's because YouTube want viewers to be watching more and more content and to be engaged. It means that there happier with the content, they're finding the content that they want. In the old days, people used to use all kinds of weird tactics with the thumbnails, putting pictures of pretty woman or just outlandish stuff on the thumbnail to try to get people to click on them. But the video would be about something completely different. When that happens, people click away, and that decreases the engagement and in turn decreases your S E o. So let's dive into YouTube really quick, so I can show you some examples of using keywords here in this professional photography class. Video noticed that I don't call it the photography masterclass in the title of this video, because I doubt that people are going to be searching for photography masterclass when looking for just a class on photography. So photography classes in the title. That is a key word online photography course. This is in the description. Changing up the specific words to include a wider breath of keywords is also important. And then I include a long description of what this video and what the course is all about. Using photography a lot. You have a 5000 word limit, and using as many of those words as possible can really help increase your S E O. Down here we have the tags and you can see what I was mentioning this green sort of square with the number This means where this video ranks in the YouTube search results for whatever topic or keyword this is. So when people search for photography class or photography course, this video pops up properly on the first page, an online photography course it's ranked number five, which is pretty high. Let's look at another video just for an example. Here is not a promo, but just that title and essential graphics tutorial. This one ranks very well for a number of key words and phrases for Adobe Premiere Pro itself. It ranks 10 which is awesome. Essential Graphics Panel, which is the exact sort of tool that I'm showing in this tutorial is Rank three title tool text tool. How to create titles in I Think That's Premiere Pro. That's the first ranking video for how to create titles in Premiere Pro. And then I thought about other things that people might be searching for when looking for this video. Put yourself in the viewer's mind. New title Missing Why is that key phrase for me? It's because that's the thing that I search for. When I found out that premiere pro change things around, there was no new title but in in Premiere Pro. So the first thing I did was I searched on Google for Where is my new title button or new title, but in missing And so a lot of people who search for this are probably wondering about Premiere Pro. And the other thing, too, is that these titles can combine and add to each other the fact that I have Adobe Premiere Pro as a key word and the new title missing. Those can work together so that if someone is searching for a new title missing, but they're searching for another program or something completely different, my video might not show up compared to someone who types in New Title Missing and Adobe Premiere Pro, The last Thing I Want to show you is a cool trick on how to see keywords that other users are using. So I'll use myself as an example when you're creating a video. I suggest searching for it on YouTube and just seeing what the most popular videos are, and then using the key words that they have as inspiration for key words that you use. Here's my top 10 ways to make passive income. I'm using Google Chrome, and if you right click and choose view page source, it will bring up the source code. Basically the html of this page. I'm going to search by pressing Command F, which would be control F on a PC and type in keywords, and you can see here that it shows the keywords for this page. Video school Online, Passive income. 10 ways to earn passive income. Ways to make passive income. Make money. Top 10 income online Debonair Philemon or teach online courses. Sell e books. Amazon Kindle, drop shipping drop shipping, rental income. Invest. So I listed out all the individual ways that and things I talk about in this video in case someone was searching for one of those. And then they end up wanting to see more because they might be interested in the others. And looking at the back end of this video, I can see that I'm right. Number two for 10 ways to earn passive income Number six for passive income number four for ways to make passive income. And so having these keywords and key phrases. Even if they're similar, they're slightly different, and people might be searching for this whole phrase or this whole phrase. It's good toe have the different options. You don't need to go crazy, and you do have a limit of 500 characters for your tags, but as long as again, you're matching the viewers expectations you don't want to use tags that will result in a video being found that's not related to the tag that you're using. Otherwise, we'll see you in the next lesson. 10. Types of Videos You Should Make: in this video. I want to give you some ideas for types of videos that you can make for your company. I know that in the previous lessons, I've been showing videos that I've made, which include mostly tutorials or direct promotions for my products. But those might not relate or work well for your product. So here are some ideas. Aside from tutorials, you can do product demonstrations where you actually show your product. You show what it is, what it does. Think of your classic daytime television networks that do a lot of product demonstrations where they're showing, How well does a particular product clean a stain shirt? How well does a mop work mopping across the floor? What does this specific type of jewelry look like? That's a product demonstration. Another great type of video is customer testimonial videos. This is great for S CEO, and just for building that like no interest value for your brand. While you might not think people are going to be searching for a testimonial video, you'd be surprised at how many people do look for reviews, which now that you think about that, that makes sense. You're always looking for reviews of products and services you buy, I bet anyways, often when I'm purchasing a new product, especially a more expensive product, I'll be you searching out for reviews on Google on Amazon, wherever I'm purchasing it. And if there's a video in the search results, I'm much more likely to watch that video than to read through an actual review. This is why, on YouTube, Unboxing and review videos are so popular, so get people from your audience from your customer base to review the products that you sell them. The next type is a business introduction. This is sort of like the YouTube ad I showed you in the last section where I was telling people what the YouTube channel has to offer and pitching people to subscribe. But this is more about your business. It's just in general overview of what your business is, who you are, and it's not just great for being on your YouTube channel, but it's also great for putting on your website. Remember, people like to watch videos mawr than read through content nowadays, and so having a video on your website is really important. You can put it on Facebook and your other social media platforms as well. With the business intro video, you have complete control for what you say and how you represent your own brand. Behind the scenes video is another great type of video. As companies become more personal and open up more and more to the consumer, it's a good idea to lift that curtain for your own company. Consumers expect that they want to see the inner workings. It's part of that building trust with your audience, so all often show videos about how I create my own products and services. I show videos about how I make online courses about what cameras I'm using about all the behind the scenes stuff that people might be interested in. This builds trust with your customer with the viewers who have subscribed to your channel again, making it more likely that they'll actually make a purchase when you pitch something to them. Tips and tricks are related to tutorials, but it might not necessarily be related specifically with how to use your product. For example, if you do make some sort of cleaning supply that is supposed to clean kitchen counters even better, the tips and tricks video might not just be. How do you clean a counter with X Y Z product? It might just be five tips for keeping your kitchen cleaner, and then within those tips you feature the product. People are always looking for these kinds of life hacks to make them and their life more efficient. Another kind of video is live presentation in Q and A videos, opening yourself up to your audience so that they can ask questions. With YouTube live streaming, you can get people to engage with you right then and there, asking during a life presentation. You can hold questions or ask for questions beforehand to your audience, on YouTube or through your email list. And again, this just builds that trust with you. If your company does go to any conferences or things like that, you might want to find a way to live. Stream that presentation, or at least record that live presentation and put it on YouTube later on. Commercials is another type. This is a direct promotion of your video f ake use. This is a great other type of video. It helps your audience out. It makes them happier when they are struggling with your product or service, and they can easily find the answer. And it helps make you more efficient. As someone who can support your customers. Think about the most popular questions your customers ask or survey them and ask them what are the biggest problems or questions that you have and make videos for each of those problems? Chances are more than one person will have this question. So having this library of support videos is going to make your life a lot easier, and my last idea is to do video interviews. This could be interviews of people on your team talking about the company, talking about the background, the history of the company. Or you can find people in your industry that maybe they're a competitor. Or maybe there's someone that is in a related product or service that works well with your own. And this is good because it grows your audience using the presence and the power of someone else's brand. This is probably one of the best ways to quickly grow your audience, finding experts and thought leaders in your industry Teoh interview because other people might be searching for content related to that expert or that thought leader. And then when it ends up being a video on your YouTube channel, they become aware of your channel and your brand that way, looking at this list, the ones that stand out the most to me, the ones that I think you should start out with are a business introduction, which just talks about your general business, who you are, commercials for each of your products, customer testimonials and then tutorials or tips and tricks for all of the products that you have. From there, you can expand with these other video ideas. I hope this gets the brain working, and the next step is really to make a list. Write down all the topics and the ideas that you have for videos. I find that writing things down actually gets me to take action and have more results than just thinking about them. So thanks so much for watching, and we'll see in another video 11. Why Do Subcribers Matter: Another technique for optimizing your YouTube channel for sales is to get more subscribers . I've talked about this a few times before, so hopefully by now you understand this. But if not, I want to reinforce this idea with some more reasons why subscribers matter. At the end of the day, subscribers watch more of your video's, and if people are watching more of your video's, there's a better chance that they're ultimately going to buy a product of yours. Why do subscribers watch more while they've seen you before and have enjoyed your content? That's why they subscribe to your channel. YouTube also sent them notifications. Depending on what settings they have, they might get emails with your latest videos or your videos will show up on their home and subscription page. Just being there will lead to more views. The other thing is that subscribers Dr Maurin, initial traffic and views that increases the discoverable ity of your videos. When I say discover ability, I'm talking about your video ranking higher in the search engine, also showing up and suggested videos. This happens more when you get more views, so if you have 1000 subscribers or 100,000 subscribers. When you launch a new video, you're more likely to get that initial traction that helps this. This is why it takes some time to grow a successful YouTube channel, because when you're just starting out, if you don't have an existing audience off of YouTube, you're not going to get that existing traffic. This is also why it's important to send traffic to your videos. If you do have an audience, if you have an audience on Facebook or another social media platform, if you have an e mail list or any sort of audience on any platform, promote your videos or share your videos with that audience so that you get that initial rush of traffic. Subscribers are also important because you can learn from them. You can learn about who they are, what they like, what products or services they want. You can do direct surveys with them to get this information. You can read through comments and messages from your subscribers. Or you can just look at the analytics for whose subscribing to understand more about the demographics of your subscribers. This ends up being your target audience and knowing that target audience helps you build a better brand. So a few tips for getting more subscribers one is to just make sure you're making videos worth watching, similar to with article writing in the old days, it was important to be writing content Ah, lot consistently every day, if possible, even if the articles were only a couple 100 words long. But now quality is better than quantity for both article writing and on YouTube. While some people have success posting random videos, daily vlogs and things like that for 99.9% of us, our lives and the videos that we make in that style aren't going to be interesting enough to get more subscribers and to keep subscribers happy. So you have to pay attention and be a little bit more thoughtful in what types of videos you're creating. Using the list that I talked about in the last lesson. Of course, you want to be using the features that YouTube has to encourage subscriptions. Things like adding links in your descriptions using your branding tools, which will show you in the basics of YouTube section, which allows you to add a logo or a subscribe image to every single video that acts as a subscription button when people hover over it, use cards and end screens toe also have clickable links within your videos. These tools are available for us to use, and YouTube has created them for us to grow our channels, so we might as well be using them. Having a schedule for posting videos also increases subscriber rates, and the reason is because people subscribe to a channel because they want more content. If they didn't think that there was going to be future videos, then there would be no reason for someone to subscribe to a channel. And so you might be wondering, Phil, what is a good amount of content to be putting out? When should I be putting up videos? It really depends on your own schedule and how often and how quickly you can create videos . But remember the first rule, which is to create videos that are worth watching if you can only put out one valuable video per month than stick to that schedule if you can do it once a week, Even better, if you can do it twice a week, that's even better. Is going to be hard to do that every day unless you have a lot of time on your hands or someone specifically dedicated to creating video content. So don't overextend yourself at the end of the day. If your schedule is once a month, though, and people are expecting content once a month, then that's totally fine. People will still subscribe to your channel for that regularity. It's just that if you do start to change your schedule and you don't post as regularly, that's going to decrease the amount of subscribers and decrease the amount of new subscribers signing up, telling people what your schedule is in your videos in your channel trailer. Also in your channel artwork, which is the artwork at the top of your YouTube channel that can help lead to more subscribers. You want to be using calls to action within your videos. This means you actually telling people on screen it could mean having a title graphic pop up just something to actually get people to subscribe. Often, just having the YouTube card or a link in the description isn't going to be enough. It helps if you're actually telling people within the video to do it and to take action. And one other idea for increasing subscribers is to reward them. This could literally mean having a contest or give away for people who are subscribed to your channel. This will make your current subscribers happier and get them or engaged with your brand. And people who aren't subscribe to your channel might see those contests, and they'll be more likely to subscribe if there's a chance for winning a prize or being rewarded somehow. So these are the reasons why subscribers matter and how to get more. Subscriber is from your channel. If you have any questions or thoughts, please let me know otherwise. Get More Subscribers with Giveaways: one of the ways that you can increase your YouTube subscribers is through holding giveaways , a tool that you can freely use to require people to subscribe to your channel in exchange for entering. Your giveaway is called gleam dot io, and this is the website here gleam dot io I'll be going over how to use that in just a second. But first I want to show you a competition or giveaway that I'm currently running right now . So I'm giving away a video creator startup kit. And by the time you're watching this, this isn't gonna be live. So just in case you were wondering, But I've been running this for the past five days and since then I have over 8000 entries. Now, understand that people who sign up for this giveaway can enter multiple ways, which is kind of cool because you can have them subscribe to your channel For one entry. You can have them share this competition for another entry and all kinds of other things. So well, I didn't get 8000 new subscribers in the past week. I was able to dramatically increase the rate at which I was getting new subscribers. Here are my analytics for the past 90 days. So on average you can see that I was getting about 50 or so new subscribers poured per day . Not sure why I lost a lot of subscribers of the start of the year. Maybe that's something do with YouTube deleting accounts or something like Pat at the start of the new year. Here is the start of the competition, though, said the 12th of January. And that day my subscribers spiked to 2 19 And since them for the past few days on my subscribe burr rate has stayed high. So not all of these are do exactly to the competition. But I can actually show you how many are. Here are the stats for this giveaway. Over 2000 people saw the giveaway and over 600 people took action, and while there were actually 3000 actions, but there were over 600 people who did take action and to actually enter or to be a user, you had to subscribe. So over 600 people subscribe to my channel from this giveaway, so that's cool, right? I was able to get over 600 new subscribers and less than a week from having a giveaway. I did this giveaway once. I passed 75,000 subscribers. So I want you to take that into account to I created a video announcing the Give away, saying that I was celebrating my 75,000 subscribers and giving away over $2000 in prizes. And this didn't necessarily get a lot of people to subscribe because there were already the people that are watching this are most likely going to be subscribers. But what I did do was I shared this on Facebook. I shared it on Twitter Instagram. I sent an email to my email list, and so people who weren't already subscribe to my channel were then incentivized to subscribe. The success of your own competition will vary depending on how big of an audience you have outside of YouTube. I'm sure that some people might have seen this on YouTube and then subscribed. But most of these new subscribers the 600 probably came from outside of YouTube. Cool. So how do you sign up? Well, first you have to go to gleam dot io, sign up for an account and then go ahead and create a new competition. But first, let me just show you that there is a free plan, a pro plan and a business plan. I am on the free plan, which is very cool because it still allows you to hold giveaways. And you can do some of the features like requiring people to subscribe to your YouTube channel to enter the give away. But for the pro plan and the business plan, you get multiple options or more options, such as if you want people to subscribe to your email list. That could be an option for entering the give away that's not available for the free plan. I'll show you, though, what some of the options are. But for anyone in this class, it's great because you have that YouTube option. So click the new competition button and I'll walk through this process with you. So you have your tabs up here for the different steps. So first the set up, we're going to call this test giveaway so you'll name your competition or your giveaway. You can set your start and end eight here. If you have any terms or conditions, you can adhere. So if you're only holding it for people in a specific country or something like that. You can add that here in the second tab, you can choose how people can actually sign up for the give away. This isn't how they enter it, but this is how they will be contacted if they win. So you need some sort of contact information, so typically they'll sign up by email. But you can also have them log in with things like email, Facebook, instagram, soundcloud or Twitter, or exit out of any of those if you don't want those options and you can also have a minimum age here on the third tab are all of the ways to enter the give away. The way that gleam works is you can allow people to enter multiple times to get a better chance of actually winding, because gleam will, at the end of the giveaway, randomly pick a winner. And if someone has done multiple entries, then they have that better chance. The ones that I did and I recommend our this YouTube option, so clicking any of these will give you the options you have for each sort of channel. So for YouTube, you can require subscribing to a channel, so when you click any of those options, a box will appear up here, you can tie it. Give it a new title, such as Subscribe to my YouTube channel, Plug in your channel, You are all down here and then you can choose if it's worth just one entry or even multiple entries, and you can make this mandatory or not. So for my giveaway, I made it mandatory so that people had to subscribe to even participate. The cool thing, too, is that you could collaborate with other people for these giveaways, and you can have multiple YouTube channel subscription options. You can do things on YouTube like having them watch a video. You can have them comment on YouTube video to other ones that I use for Facebook. I had them visit on Facebook, so if I click that, you can plug in your Facebook page. What you noticed, though, is that if I click over visit on Facebook or the Facebook option, liking on Facebook is great out. So that's not an option in the free plan. Or actually, it looks like it's not even no longer Paul available because it's against Facebook's policies to do something like that. There are things like subscribing to a newsletter that aren't available until you upgrade to a pro plan. One of the other things that I think you should check out is that this viral share option this means of someone actually shares this competition on email. Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus or you can do Tumblr or Pinterest. Then they get an extra entry. And this is one way to get even more people participating in more potential subscribers. I added this, and I made this worth something like crazy, like five entries, because I wanted to incentivize people sharing. And you can also limit it to them, sharing it 10 different times on, you know, 10 different email addresses or Facebook pages or whatever. And then the last one I want to mention is this bonus option. So this allows you to choose a number of actions that are required to unlock this, and then they get bonus entries. So this incentivizes them, doing all of the actions that you have on your competition or your give away. So if they complete all three of these, then they unlock three more entries or something like that. So that's pretty cool, too. Okay, so those are all the ways that you can enter next, you have your prize tab. So this you just given name or title to your prize, you have the description as well. You also have how many people can win this prize. And then this is the default confirmation email that they will get. If you upgrade to a business plan, you can customize this. You can even add things like pixel tracking where you can retarget people with ads from Facebook, or even like your Google YouTube retargeting this way as well. So this is just tests. So let me go back to the competitions and then click on video creators set up start up kit . This is the one that I'm running right now. So if you go through all of those steps, you save it. Then what you can do is share this with people. You can either share this host landing page which is a gleam Daio website where you can send people and they can easily substance enter here. Or you can embed it on your own website. So, under the code and install tab. You can take this widget code right here. And if you put that on your website, then it will look something like this. And then you could customise page to look different. So I added images for the prices down here. Alright, So back here, the only other thing I want to tell you is once you are done, you go to the winners tab. You click draw winners and gleamed a Iot, will randomize it and select a winner for you. Adding Links to Your Website: In this lesson, you'll learn how to add links to your website in your YouTube videos. The three main places I'm talking about right now are in your video description using YouTube cards and YouTube and screens before you can use cards or end screens to link to your own website, you'll want to associate your website with your YouTube channel. There's a tutorial for how to do this in the basics of YouTube section later on. Here's an example of a more recent video that I posted regarding podcasting. This is not a direct promotion of a podcasting course that I launched, but more of a tips or tutorial style video where we're giving six reasons why people should start a podcast in 2018. It's relatively new, with only 400 views, and you can see that I have a link in the description. When you're adding links to your description, make sure that it's above the fold. What that means is it is above this show more button. You don't want to add important links below the show more button because it's required to click that button, which is an extra step for a consumer or a viewer to see that link. You also might not want to put it as the very first thing in your description. I used to do this a lot with older videos, but what I've realized is that the first few lines of your description actually show up in your YouTube search results. So if this video shows up in the search results, they'll see that thumb. Now we'll see the title and they'll see the first couple of lines. If the first line is just a promotion of some sort of product or service, this might turn away viewers from even clicking on that video. So you have to balance having something that is short and catchy and try to get someone to watch the video explaining what the video is about, but also including a link that is above the fold. The other place that I include links is in the card, which pops up right there around five seconds again. How you add cards and end screens is in the YouTube basics section of the course. Got a funny face right there. But what happened? Was this popped up? That said, Get your free guide or read your free guide and when someone clicks on this both on desktop or mobile, which is a good reason to use cards because they work on mobile devices where most or not most. But a lot of people are watching your YouTube videos and then as a link to an article about this topic. So this is not a direct promotion, Whereas the link in the description is a direct link to the sales page. This is a soft sail to an article that expands upon what I'm talking about so they can click on that. Read the guide and let me just show you what that sales funnel looks like. If you're curious. So the guide has the six reasons with a little bit more information. And then at the end there is a pitch or a promotion for the full class with the discounted link. At the end of the video, let's go to the very end. The end screen will pop up with about 15 seconds or so left in the video. So there you have the link pop up, and so I've added to links to the end screen. One is a direct link to the course and one is a link to a video about the course, which is a direct promotion of the course. The reason why I have both of these is because YouTube actually requires that when you use encourage or end screens, you have to have one clickable link to another video of yours or a playlist. And that's because you two wants people to continue watching mawr content of yours when they've reached the end of your video. So you want to make sure that it's something related. I think this is the perfect way to do it because it's video related to podcasting, and it's actually a video related to what I'm trying to sell, which is the course. So that's how you should add links to your videos in YouTube again. If you don't know exactly how to do that, continue with the YouTube basic section. Later on 14. Make Sure You Have Calls to Action: in this video, I want to show you a couple examples of calls to action. I've talked about calls to action before and how important they are to actually get people your viewers to take action. Whether that's opting into an email list, it's buying your product or subscribing or watching another video of yours. Calls to action come in different styles. One is a visual cue, whether that's you on camera saying something or it's actually a graphic or a pop up something in your video that has text that tells people what to do. Or it could be audio. It could be you talking on camera, or it could be you talking over another screen or an end card or something like that. So let me show you a couple examples of what I've done successfully with calls to action. Here's a tutorial that I created on WordPress, another one that I just launched about a week ago, and it's a series of nine videos, and it's actually nine of the first videos from my WordPress course. Earlier in this course, I showed you how I had a 30 minute preview of my WordPress course. This is actually some of that same content, but I've separated it into different videos. Why, you might be saying, Why would I add the same content on YouTube twice? The reason is because this is geared towards a specific keyword. How to install and activate WordPress themes. If people search this, they probably won't find that other video, which was about WordPress for beginners or basic learning. WordPress. People will be searching for other keywords for that kind of video. While you can't just re upped with same video over and over on YouTube, it's just not allowed in the can sense and tell if you're uploading the same content twice . Repair pissing content like this can be beneficial with this video. I went through the video tutorial, and then at the end I say Thanks for watching. But there was a lot going on with this call to action, but all directed towards my membership site. I have the link right on the video itself as a visual graphic. I also was talking about it explaining what it was. I have the end card that pops up with a link to that all access pass, so giving the viewer a lot of ways to actually take action. Well, this hard sell actually works better and converting people to purchasers. It's not as geared specifically to this video as the previous video about WordPress, where the course I was promoting at the end of the video was a WordPress course. In an ideal world, I would have some sort of more hard sell like this, with graphics really high. Lee produced with the end screen and everything geared exactly two. This video. But it's also easier, which you have to balance ease and making it perfect. It's easier to have one sort of standard called action that you can plug in at the end of all your videos like this, which is what I did. I exported this video, and now I can add it to any of the videos that I feel like it would work for. Those are some ideas for adding calls to action and what that actually looks like on YouTube. Internal Linking - What's That?: as I've mentioned before, building a strong brand is all about giving people toe like no entrust you. I've said this mantra over and over in this class building a tribe of followers who will consume all of your content. One way to grow your own tribe is through internal linking on your website. This might look like linking to related articles on a block post on YouTube. This looks a little different, but first, why is internal linking good linking to other videos will result in more views, building better fans that represent your brand and, at the end of the day, making more sales. So what does this actually look like on YouTube? It means adding links in the description, using cards and end screens to link to other videos, making references in a video, talking about other videos that people might be interested in making use of playlists. A playlist on YouTube is a list of video is basically tagged by you that are related on video school online. I have playlists related to Adobe premiere pro Adobe after effects about photography, about video production. You can also put videos on multiple playlists and the reason why this is a good idea is because some people will start watching a video from a playlist, and when that video ends, it will automatically play the next video in that playlist. And of course, getting more views like this is good for your brand. Also, not only do videos show up in search results, but playlists also show up in search results as well. In the YouTube basic section of this course, you'll learn how to do all these things. Add links to your description, cards and screens. How to use playlists. So if you're interested, you can skip ahead or wait toe watch those sections. But this is just a quick video to talk about this idea of internal linking so that you can get viewers of your videos to watch even Mawr content of yours. 16. Types of Ads on YouTube: welcome to this brand new section of the YouTube marketing course, all about advertising on YouTube. So this is when you actually promote your own content, your own videos on other places on YouTube. First, we're going to understand all of the different types of odds. This way. When we go through the next lessons and you see an actual sample promotion and we show you how to use the platform to promote videos, you'll understand what you're getting into YouTube. As of this great chart, which I will link to in the course you have display ads, which appear on the page with another video. This will appear on the right hand side of a video, or it will appear below it. Here on this page, you can see an example of this ad right here. Make a tattoo composite. This is not a related video that suggested or recommended. For me. It's one that was paid to be positioned right here. If my video player was actually larger like this, then it shows down below it. Overlay ads show up on the bottom part of your video itself. Here's an example of an overly ad that appears at the bottom of a video screen. Here's an example of thesis Cripple ad where, after five seconds you're able to click Skip to actually skip the ad and get to the content the's ads can be thes ads can come at the very beginning or in the middle of your video. The nonce capable video ads are similar, but you can't actually skip them after five seconds, and they can also be at the beginning or during or after the video place. Bumper ads are a newer form of ad that are similar, but they're limited to six seconds long and they're not Skip Herbal. And then, lastly, we have sponsored cards, so just like you can create cards of your own, sponsors can promote products that are relevant to your video through the YouTube cards that appear on your video. The different ads will cost different prices, and we'll Seymour information about that later on in this section, and you have the options to choose either type of format. Those are the different types of YouTube ads currently available. Sometimes these things change, So if this is outdated, let me know or I'll try to update it myself. Otherwise, let's move on to the next lesson and actually practice creating YouTube ads 17. The Quick and Easy Way to Create YouTube Ads/Promotions: in this lesson, I'm going to show you the easy way to promote or advertise one of your videos that already exists on YouTube. The first thing you'll want to do is go to Google AdWords adwords dot google dot com and sign up for an account. You'll need this account to actually promote or advertiser YouTube videos. Then go to your creator studio, which is, if you go up to your icon in the top, right, and then you click on Creator Studio and then under channel and advance, you can see AdWords account linking click on Link and AdWords account, and then hook up the AdWords account that you just created. If you want Positives video and do all of that and then come back because you won't be able to move forward until you do these two steps with this type of promotion that I'm showing you in this video, it's good for if you just want more views on a video in the next lessons, I'm going to be shown you a more advanced way of advertising, targeting giving people to click on your links, going to your website, purchase products and that kind of thing but this video, it's a simpler way to just quickly set up a promotion for one of your videos. It's kind of like on Facebook. If you have a Facebook page, how they ask you if you want to promote a post where you're basically just getting mawr eyeballs on the content without too much control of who actually sees it and what they do, there's a little bit of control and we'll show you that in just a second. So why would you even want to do this? I've found that promoting videos right when they're launched and getting that boost of traffic can help with long term success of a video there ranking There s CEO because the more views, the more likes, the more engagement you get early on in a video. It boosts that ranking so that people can find it from search. And there's that social proof to it to when someone is searching for a topic. And if a video has 10,000 views, they don't know if those views were from a promoted video or if it was just organic traffic . But if they're comparing that video to a video that has maybe a few 100 views, they might be more likely to click the one and watch the one with more views. So that's why promoting a video of yours might be a good idea just to get that initial boost of traffic. So how do you do it? Go into your creator studio and go under your video manager to your videos page. Find a video that you want to boost. Now you want to be smart about this. You don't want to be wasting any money. So for me, I'm going to choose a video that is a promotion of a free course of mine. I'm not going to promote a promo for a paid course because getting someone from YouTube into a paid course I've found is harder than making sure they go through an email funnel first. Remember, talking about are different types of marketing funnels. I'm going to send them to a free course where they get on une Mehlis and then promote to them later on. This is the video that I want to create a promotion with, and don't mind this little TB icon right here. You're not going to see this on your YouTube channel. This is too, buddy, which is a you tube extension. I like using it. It has a lot of cool tools, But if you're wondering, what is that TB sort of putting. Why don't I have that? Don't worry about it. I'm not gonna be using that in this class next to this added, but and click the down arrow and choose promote. This takes you to a new page for promoting your videos. Click promote your video button. Now we have some different options that we want to go through. Starting from the left, you have a campaign budget where you give a total amount of money that you want to spend for your entire campaign or you can do a daily budget. So I recommend starting out with, like, $10 a day if you can, and you can also start and end this whenever you want, so you don't have to worry about If you set a $10 budget per day, it's not going to go on forever. Next, you have the audience that gets to see this ad. You have two options here, everyone, or let me choose who sees my ad as I mentioned before. You can do a little bit of targeting here where you can choose specific countries or regions or even a specific city, and this is great. If you do have a traditional local business and you want to target people in your local area, you can do that by city or region. Now your little town might not be on here, but your region hopefully is. Or, for example, for me. If I want to only target people who speak English and who are more likely to purchase my product, I might target countries like the United States, Canada, you know, the kingdom and the reason why I know this is because from my other analytics and research in the past, most of my paying students come from thes country, Australia. But you can see up here as I do that that the estimated views per day changes depending on what countries you select. Some countries it costs more to advertise because they're more valuable for advertisers than others. And this is just a good, awesome kind of idea for how Maney impressions and views your video will get. So ad impressions is how many times this will actually show up. But if you have the in stream ads because it's a true view, add, you only get charged and you only pay if someone watches 30 seconds of your video. Not if they clip, click the skip ahead, but in. And speaking of, over here on the right really quick, you can preview what your ad is gonna look like. Here you have the in display ad, which is thesis search results, and the stream ad will show up right here as the video itself. All right, back down to the left. After you've chosen a location, you can choose a specific interest, and this is based off of a user's history, their pattern of use that Google tracks both through YouTube and on Google itself, you'll find that they have a number of categories and sub categories. So for me, for this video, I might find someone that is interested in photography. Not category is called shutterbugs, or perhaps under media and entertainment. I can choose movie lovers, or perhaps I want to just choose the entire technology category. If this was a video about some sort of mobile phone app or editing process on an app. Maybe I would just choose the mobile enthusiast. That being said, this kind of targeting is so out of your control that I don't recommend usually selecting the interests here. I just usually have it be all interests. And the cool thing is that because you're not being charged when someone doesn't watch 30 seconds of your video, it doesn't matter too much if you're choosing a specific interest because you don't want to leave out people and not show it to people who might be interested. And those people might be in different categories, and they may end up watching 30 seconds of your ad or your video and clicking on your video your channel so you don't want to miss out on that opportunity. And like I've said, there's better ways to target a specific audience, and we'll be showing you that in the next lessons. So for me, I'm just going to click all interests. Then click next step. Here. You can design your ad so you have a headline, a description line in a description line to. So for me, I might choose something like learn Adobe Photo Shop for free. Something like that, something catchy something. We're engaging with someone for the description. One and roll in the free course. Start learning today, so that's really quick. I'd probably do a little bit more research. Try to figure out what keywords and what things people are interested in for clicking on this ad, maybe practicing with a couple of different ad copied, doing multiple campaigns with the same video to see which works in these sort of sub categories, and top headlines are only going to be showing in the in display ads. It's not going to be in the in stream at because that's just a video that pops up and starts playing, but it will display these headlines in the in display section. Okay, so once you have your headline descriptions and you can also choose the thumb now you can see that it gives you a few different options for a thumb. Now, click next step. If you aren't signed into AdWords, it's going to ask you to sign into AdWords. And now, once you're logged in, you can just review everything. You have your ad copy your budget, the potential reach locations, targeted group. You can see here. Now we can see what it looks like for the in stream. Add the true view in display ad and then all you have to do is click create and launch campaign. All right, so this takes you to the Google AdWords account page here. You can see that I have my campaigns on the left, different ones that I ran before, and it takes you automatically to this campaign, which you can re title. If you want clicking their Dobie for free, we'll just save that. And if you scroll down or you might see this already, you have the two different ads that are being reviewed, the one in stream and the in display ad. So it might take a day or so a business day for Google to approve your ad. If there's anything wrong with your video with the copy, you can't promote videos that are against you to policy that kind of thing. Then it might not be approved, but typically, if you're following through rules and not promoting anything scandalous, it should just go ahead and work. It's an important thing, Teoh. Now go into the settings here so you can choose an end date. If you didn't just choose an overall campaign budget here. Under settings, you can goto campaign, start and end date and then choose an end date. If I just want this to run for a few days, I will choose that and click safe. You have a few more options here is well, like delivery method. Typically, you're on the standard option, which shows your ad two people evenly over time, so they kind of space it out over the tie length of your campaign. Otherwise, you can shoot accelerated, which shows your ads as quickly as possible so it will only reach the maximum daily budget . But they show it earlier on as fast as possible. Or if you just have an entire campaign budget and not a daily budget, they're going to show your ad as fast as possible and not kind of trying trickle out. Trickle it out over a few days. I like choosing the standard method. You also have networks, which you didn't see before. This is where people will find your ads. So in YouTube search, when people are searching for a topic and might show up depending on what the keywords are for your video and what they're searching or on YouTube videos, which is standard the in stream view. And they also have partners. So YouTube and Google AdWords will put odds on other video content elsewhere. So these are also going to be counted as YouTube views for you, so you might as well leave it. Some people don't like using that. They want to target only people who are on the YouTube platform itself, and that's up to you. You have your location options languages, which is another advanced option we didn't see before. You can choose whether you want it to be on all devices and all networks, or just on mobile tablets or just on desk top computers. If you want. Here you can choose different types of operating systems. For example, if you are promoting something that has to do with Macintosh computers only or a Mac app, then you might not want PC users to be seeing that add things like that. You could doom or advanced settings with ad scheduling so changing when people actually see the ads during the day, or it's going to be standard to just show it at all hours of the day and then under add delivery, there's a couple other options. Frequency capping. This means that if you only want a certain amount of people toe, watch the the the odd per day. For example, if you have an ad campaign running where you're giving away a free come up promotion or a free course or something like that of doing anything where you wanna limit it to a certain amount of people, you might want to set a cap toe. How many people actually see the ad per day? And then there's content exclusions where they're not going to show your video on other or put your ad on any content that is violent. It's related to crime, abuse, that kind of stuff. But you can manually edit that if you would like. Once your ad starts running, you will start to get data here. Under the ad data, you'll start to see how many views are being watched because of the ads. If you go to the video targeting tab, you can see specific data for different demographics for age. Her gender hustled income, that kind of stuff. Right now I don't have any data because this odd hasn't started playing yet. Here I've chosen another ad that I've done in the past a cinematography video. And so here you can see the impressions in the data for things like age, and this can also help you understand who your target audience is, so you can see that a lot of 25 to 34 year olds were watching this video. Interesting to me. More females watch this video than males, which is interesting to me because most of my current students are male. A lot of people who were parents compared, not parents. So you get a lot of pull data there that you can use to retarget and focus your advertisements in the future. And lastly, really quick. If you ever want to pause an ad campaign or end it, just click on this enabled button up here in the top left. Choose pause, or you can completely remove this if you want. And as you do a lot more promotions, that might be easier to remove some of the older ones. So your AdWords account isn't so cluttered. So even though I said this was the easy way to promote a video, you can see that you can get quite advanced with this after you actually set up the odd words campaign. And in Google AdWords, you can start editing a lot of these different features, but there's a lot more you can do, and that's going to be coming up in the next few lessons when we go and start an ad campaign directly within AdWords. So if you don't have an ADWORDS account yet and you want to follow along again, go ahead and set up your AdWords account and then we'll see you in the next lesson. 18. Advanced YouTube Ads - Part 1 - Set Up Your Ad Campaign: in this lesson, and the following lessons were going to be doing a more advanced form of creating YouTube ads. So first you want to make sure you have your AdWords account. Go ahead and log in. And second, you want to start thinking about what type of video you want to promote, because you'll need to choose a video that you have on YouTube to promote through this ad, and it should be uploaded on YouTube. So go ahead and log in tow. AdWords and you should see your overview page that looks like this Now I know AdWords has recently gone through a beta phase where they've made some changes to the layout. So if this changes, it might be a little bit different. Or if you haven't created a campaign yet, there might be a different home page that says, Create your first campaign. Either way, you want to start a new campaign. So if I go to the campaign tab down here and then click this plus, but in here, I'm going to choose new campaign here. It gives me my different options for what type of Google ad we are creating. A video ad here so click video. Then they ask you to choose a goal for your campaign and depending on what you choose here , will change the settings and the options that they kind of put forth in front of you. That will help you achieve your goal. The two main goals, our product and brand consideration and brand awareness and reach with product and brand consideration. This is probably what you're going to want to choose if you are promoting a specific product or service that you have. If you're just trying to get more views, get more subscribers than you would choose brand awareness and reach. And that might be something that if you're a new business in your local area and you're trying to use YouTube to promote yourself, this might be what you choose. But for me, I'm going to go through and choose product and brand consideration because I have a product of mind that I'm going to be promoting with this ad. Then down below, you have your campaign subtype standard consideration, which drives views and engagement in consideration for your product or shopping. This will promote relevant products that you have, and you're required to have a Google Merchant Center account, which is a little bit different. So we're going to choose standard consideration and click continue. Give your campaign a name. This one is photo fundamentals course free course that I'm giving away. You have your budget and again, like before you have a daily or campaign total. So if you have a campaign total in mind, then you might as well just use that, say, 200. And then, if you choose your start and end dates here, you can kind of estimate how much is going to be spent per day. Or you might have a daily amount, and I recommend just starting out with, like, $10 a day under delivery method. You have two options standard and accelerated with standard. Your budget is spent evenly over time with accelerated its going to spend your budget more quickly. So if you especially choose the campaign total option. But you set your start and end dates for, say, a couple of weeks. It might spend your entire budget within the first day unless you choose the standard option, which is what I recommend. Next you have your start and end dates. You can either just have it continuously going or you can have it start today or whenever. I'm gonna try starting it next Monday and then the end date you can have set as continuously going or you can choose a date in the future. So if I want to just test this out for a week, which I recommend having a limit just so that you don't forget about it, I think that's a good idea. Next, you have the networks that it will appear on. Do you want it to show up in search results? Where, if someone searching for keyword will it show up next to those videos that appear? Do you want to show as a an in stream ad and on the YouTube Channel page for YouTube videos and then also the video partners on their display network? They have partners where people can actually show you, tube adds, or Google ads on other video players on different websites. I'm gonna turn this off because I just want my adds to be playing on YouTube for languages . You can choose your language. I'm going to choose English because this is the language of my course, and I know that my engagement and the success of my students depends on if they can understand my course or not. So I want to make sure it's English for locations. You can choose specific countries. You want your ad to show in, and you can also exclude specific countries. If you know, for example, you don't want countries specific countries to see your ad, or you can just choose all countries and territories. Teoh. Get them most reach. I'm going to test that out with this campaign forbidding strategy. We only have cost per view right here instead of costs per meal, which is a clicking strategy for how many people click on your ad. But since it's a video ad, you'll only have cost per view as an option. I click the advanced I click the additional options down here, and this is where you can choose if you want your ad to show on computers mobile on tablets if you want frequency capping, which sets the number of impressions and views per day. For example, if I only want ah, 100 people per day to see this ad, Aiken set that here. I recommend just leaving that off unless you have a specific reason why you would want to set that limit. Contact exclusions means you want YouTube to kind of determine what videos it can show on. They're going to make sure that it doesn't show on videos that have sensitive content like tragedy, social issue, sensitive social issues and these kinds of things. Or you can manually opt in or opt out under this option and then your ad schedule. So this is if you wanted to show all day all times, and I think that's a pretty good idea, especially if you're showing it around the world. Or if you're targeting a specific region, you might only want to show your ad at specific times. If you're a pizza shop, you might want to only show your ads between lunch and dinner. Time to get in the minds of people who are thinking about making dinner. And so that would be an advanced way to target specific customer with an ad schedule. Once you choose all of these settings for who is going to be seeing your ad, you'll want to give this ad group and name so that in the future, if you want to target the specific group, then you can do it easily. I'm going to call this worldwide Photo group and then the last setting for this lesson that I want to go over is the bidding strategy. You have your maximum CPV bid, which is the maximum you'll pay per view of your video right here. You see that? I put four cents. So Google isn't going to do charge me or show my ad in front of someone If I need to pay more than four cents. You also have a popular video bit adjustment. So if your video ad plays in front of a popular video, are you willing to pay a little bit more to get your video in front of that video? So, for example, if I put a 50% adjustment than my Max bid would go up to six cents if I'm competing with other advertisers to get on the most popular YouTube videos, so what should you put as your maximum CPV while in the beginning starting with something low is a good idea just to see how it starts toe work out for you to get views to get initial traffic, it of course, depends on who your audiences is well, worldwide. Setting a max CPV of two cents might get you a lot of views, But if you're targeting a more valuable market, such as the US based market, you might have to go up to seven cents 10 cents. And of course, it might depend on how well your conversions work and how, while your sales funnel actually does, it might end up being worth it to you to pay 25 cents per view. If once people are watching your ad, they're actually signing up for your email list or signing up for your product or converting directly to a sales page if that's what you're sending them to. So it's a good idea to make sure you're tracking how many people are actually watching your videos from that amount of people who are watching your ad, How many people are becoming customers or how many people are on your email list, and then you have to do further tracking if they're on your email list. How many of those people are then ultimately purchasing your product so you get your sort of lifetime value of a customer and then you can basically have a bidding strategy that makes it worth it to you to get that new customer for an easy example. If you're making $10 for every person who purchases your products and one out of every 10 people who ends up on your email list becomes a paying customer that averages out to every email subscriber being worth about $1 to you. Well, if you can have an ad that costs less than a dollar for you to get someone on your email list than your campaign will actually be profitable, that's just a very simple example. But that's the kind of analysis you'll have do to determine what your maxi PV should be going forward. For now. Test something low below five cents so that you can start to get a lot of views and see what happens with your budget. Thanks so much for watching this lesson in the next one. We're going to be diving into the demographics and who actually sees our our ads and where they see it on YouTube 19. Advanced YouTube Ads - Part 2 - Choose Who Sees Your Ad: we're back in our ad campaign, and then this lesson, I'm going to give you some more advanced ways to target a specific audience. So I just scroll down under our create your ad group section under bidding to people. So here you have demographic, So if I click this drop down, you have specific types of people. You can target female male age groups. Parental status, household income. If you're just starting out with your business, it's probably a good idea just to leave all of these on, so you can actually start to see and get information for who your target audience is once you get some data from who's watching this ad. But if you do have a specific type of product or service where you are targeting people of a specific age or household income or parental status, I mean, if you're selling something that is specifically for females, then you might not need or want to target males. So if you know that information, you can target it here under demographics. Next you have audiences. This is where you can choose by different types of interest. So if you click on affinity, this is similar to in the previous lesson where we saw the basic sort of likes and categories of users. When setting up your YouTube promotion, you have your main categories for different types of audiences. Here you can search for terms. So if I search for photography, it will bring up any related audiences, such as shutterbugs or under technology social media enthusiasts. So if I want, I can choose specific audiences here. If you want to create your own custom audience, you can actually do this by clicking custom, affinity, audience and clicking the plus button. Here. Maybe all say photographers, and I always like giving it a number. So I know if I create more, give it a description and then have in mind some interest or you RL's for websites that people might be interested in for this audience and click, create and then scroll down. So for interest, I might put photography, and I'll add the euro for one of my competitors. Digital photography school dot com, which is a very popular website for photographers. Press for turn, and I can get an estimate for the reach of this audience over here by clicking the get estimate option photography life is another website that is related. And so Google is taking all of this information and data from people who visit these websites and putting together an audience for me. Now there's better ways to target people on your specific audience, and that's coming up in just a minute. So say, I'm happy with that. I can click, create. And now if I scroll down under affinity audiences, we have that audience here. Okay, so that's pretty cool. If you want to do a little bit more specific targeting and create your own custom audience , Okay, I'm gonna click back. And then there's this other kind of audience intent and life events. So this is a little bit different. Let's just look under life events. So you get an idea. You have college graduation, marriage, moving, thes air events at Google knows, or finds out that people are going through based off their searches and things like that, and so you can target these types of people, and this is great if you have a business that targets people going through these life events in market audiences, thes are people who are currently searching to make purchases, so If I search for photography, for example, you get a few different options that are different than the affinity off options. So I have. Can't people who are interested in cameras or even down below camera lenses photo software ? I mean, this is really good because then I'm targeting people who are already looking for photo software and might be interested in learning Adobe Photoshopped, for example, if I'm promoting a course on photo shop, so this is a great way to target people who are already in the mindset of purchasing. And before I go on with re marketing here, this is choosing who will see your ad, but not necessarily where your ad is going to display, which is another way to find a specific target that's coming up next, where you can actually put your ads on specific channels and things like that, which we're going to be going over in just a second. But if I click re marketing, you'll see that I have similar audiences, combined audiences and website visitors. You'll need tohave Google analytics installed on your website because now I can target people who have visited my website. Retargeting campaigns can be some of the most powerful campaigns you run. And this is a great idea for warming up the audience for having a better conversion rate. And I encourage you to do test. Do one ad where you're targeting just the entire world in general, and then do an ad targeting people who visit your website and see the difference. What's the cost per view? What's the convergent? How many people do you actually get converting to a purchaser or an email subscriber based off of those two different types of audiences with similar audiences and combined audiences ? This is Google's way of looking at the people who have visited your channel or your website that is in saying thes air people who look like based off of their patterns of search and using the Internet, the's air people that look like your website visitors and might be more likely Teoh. Enjoy your content. So that's more about how you can target specific audiences and a great thing to play around with. In the next lesson, we're going to be going over content, which is how you can choose where, what channels and what specific videos even you want your ad to display on 20. Advanced YouTube Ads - Part 3 - Choose Where Your Ad Shows Up: in this lesson. We're going over the content options. Here. We can determine the keywords, topics and placements to narrow where our ad is actually going to show up under keywords. This is where you actually put specific keywords or phrases that people will be typing into YouTube. And if they type and those specific your words, your ad will pop up. You're not letting YouTube determine when you're out, appears your specifically telling them. When someone searches for photography course or learn photography, your at is going to show up. If I type in a Web site over here on the right, you can actually get keyword ideas. Digital photography classes Nikon for target classes, digital photography school, Digital camera school This is a way to figure out what keywords and do some keyword research for what you should use, and then you just out of all the key words here, one per line for tired feet. Course learned photography. Just roll camera Course using Hugh words can limit yourself, so you want to make sure you that you have enough keywords to make sure that your God is actually going to show up for people. Next, you have topics so similar to above you have all of these different topics that people might be watching videos about. This is different than your audience, because your audience might have a different background and Google might see that. Oh, this person loves photography and they're a shutterbug. But now they're watching a video on beauty and fitness. YouTube may show your ad on a video about beauty and fitness, even if they're a shutterbug, or they're not a shutterbug but based off of checking this box right here. But if you have this checked here, it could also show for all kinds of people unless you have your audience selected above. So if you have shutterbug selected above, then your ad will only show for people categorise the shutterbugs, watching beauty and fitness videos. Now there's not really reason to do that, but I think that's a good explanation or, hopefully a good explanation of how this works and how topics is different than audiences. So if you don't want to put specific videos or specific keywords, choosing specific topics might be a better way to do it here. If I type in photography, you have even more options under visual and art design and our consumer electron ICS. You have cameras, camera lenses, photo and video software. So if I'm promoting a video editing course or a video editing tutorial, choosing this right here might be the best option, because it's going to show my add on other videos related to photo and video software. So that's topics. And then, lastly, we have placements, and this is where you can do a lot of cool stuff with YouTube ads. Here, you can put in a specific YouTube channel or video or website or app that you want your ad to show on. So I know that, for example, Jared Poland is a very popular youtuber that teaches a lot of the same things that I teach . So people who watched Jared Poland might be interested in my own contact as well, so I might put in this YouTube channel. So let me search for Jared Poland, then under channels. We have Jared Poland's channel. So I check on that says your ad will appear on any eligible placement on this channel. Pretty crazy, right? What if I want it on a specific video? What if I created a video that was similar to Peter McKinnon's video Here, a popular youtuber about how to film yourself. And I want my video to show up as an add on this video, because if someone's watching this video about how to film yourself, they might be interested in my video on how to film yourself. So then I could take the URL for this video paste this in here under placements. Then under YouTube videos, it's found this video, and now it will show on that video over here. If I want to get rid of the Jared Pollen Channel, I have to zoom out just a little bit so I can see. But you have this X over here on the right hand side to get rid of that cool right. This is a very great way to target specific types of people on YouTube. It's fun to play around with. And yes, you do need money to play around and test out different things because not all of your ads are going to work. I might think that this works because, oh, well, yeah, people are gonna like my video if they like Peter McKinnon's video video, but that might not be true, so I might need to test out different channels, different types of videos and things like that. But it's an amazing tool. And if you spend the time looking at your analytics and doing tests, you can get really good at YouTube ads with this. So that's the content tab. Next, we're going to create our video ad, so go ahead and find the video that you want to create an ad with and then we'll meet you in the next lesson. 21. Advanced YouTube Ads - Part 4 - Design Your Ad: Now we're going to actually create our ads to go find the U R L A. For the video you want to create an ad with, It's got to be your own. Go back to Google AdWords and then search. Or you could even just search for here. Or you can paste the URL. All right, so here it's found that video, and you can choose. If you want it to be an in stream ad or a video discovery, add, or if it's only six seconds long, you can choose a bumper ad, which remember we talked about in the first lesson of the section those air six second ads when determining which one you want out of these two. If you have an in stream at, you want to make sure that the 1st 5 seconds of your video are really stellar, because if not, then most people are going to click away from your video unless they know what the video is about. So for this video, my ad starts out like asking the viewer You're here because you're interested in photography, right? And you want to learn more about the basics, which I think is a catchy way to start an ad, and so I'm going to use in stream ad if you think you're the start of your video, isn't as catchy. And you think maybe perhaps having a headline with the description will be more enticing for people to click on, then that might be a good option to use the video discovery at. Instead, I'm going to use in stream. And here we can choose a final your AL for our video. I want people to go to this free course of mine. So I'm gonna take this link, paste it here, make sure that the http ass is at the beginning, and then I'm going to change my display. Your are out because I don't want this to shop like this, so I'm gonna just call it video school online dot com. Okay. Like that. On the right hand side, you can preview what it looks like on mobile or desktop, and you can also see what it looks like on partner videos. So this is remember what we're talking about with network partners? The video might display on a website like New York Times or something, and I don't know if they use Google ads on New York Times. But on a website like that, I might look a little bit different, like so below. You have this option for a companion banner, which is image that appears next to your ad. I would definitely recommend this using auto generate for now, like they say, by uploading a video. It's a little bit harder, especially if your ad is showing on mobile or other websites. So I would just let YouTube do its thing. And then, lastly, you give this out of name on the very far right. You have your weekly estimates. So, based off of all of the targeting that I've chosen, which is very basic, I actually ended up taking out all of my audiences and my content where it's located. So it's basically a worldwide audience. It gives me my estimates of 3.9 K Teoh 8.6 k views these air the impressions and then the average CPV, which is actually pretty low, and that's probably because I have a worldwide audience. So when you have all of this set up and everything is to your liking, click saving continue and now we end up on our ad group page, So here we can see the group that we've created. If we click on the group, we can see the ads that we have that are going to be displayed for that group. If you click on videos, you can see the video that you just set up as an ad. And there's this other option that I want you to look at at it called Action. So when your video ad plays and someone hovers over the video, a little button will pop up with more information about the product or the website you're actually linking to. And so you want to make sure that it's set up properly for this headline and I'm going to choose Enroll for free today. Exclamation point. Make sure that the link is there, then display your All will be www dot video school online dot com. So it's not as messy. And with the image being optional, I'm just going to leave it off. Click save, all right, so you can also navigate a little bit easily by using this stream of links up here at the top. So if I want to go back to all my camping pains. I can do that. I can find my specific campaign that I was working on down here. Click on it there and you can see that my campaign is pending. That's because I haven't started this campaign. I said It's to start on a future date, and once it's been approved, and once that date date arrives, it should be running cool. So that is the advanced way to set up YouTube ads. Like I've said before, doing this is not an exact science. There's nothing that I can tell you and teach you in this class that will show you this is exactly how to be successful. It depends on who you are, what your company is, about, what you're promoting, what type of video you're doing, what your advertisement is, how good of a video it is. How well does it convert to people wanting to click on your links? And then it depends on the keywords you're targeting the audiences you're targeting the content and where you're at is displayed and all kinds of things. Luckily with Google ads, we get all of that analytics for how well our ads air doing. Who's watching them, how much it's costing. So it will take a little bit of time and money to determine what works for you and your business. But now you should understand how to set up your own campaigns with YouTube ads and Google outwards. This section is all about the basics of YouTube setting up your channel, using the platform. All of the things you might be confused about at this point. Things I've talked about earlier in the course, like adding cards and and screens. That's all going to be explained in this section and even more. The lessons from this section are taken from the digital marketing masterclass, and I'm going to give them to you all free right here because I think they're going to be of true value to you. Even though I created this course more as the marketing side of using YouTube, I realized that a lot of people who sign up for this course might not know all the ins and outs of using the platform. Even though I recently created all of these lessons, YouTube changes all the time. So if there are any glaring issues or things that I explain in the following lessons that are different than what you're seeing on YouTube, let me know, and I'll try to update those lessons. Fuel free to jump around through this section. Two lessons that are specific to you. If there are things you already know and understand, go ahead and skip them. Starting a New YouTube Channel: Let's create your YouTube channel in this video and the following videos, I'm going to walk you through creating your channel, designing your channel. Tips for making better videos, making your video chant your channel itself more successful. So I hope this is very beneficial to you if you have not started your YouTube channel yet. For those of you who already have a channel, there might be videos in this series that you already know how to do so Go ahead and skip those videos. But for those of you who don't follow along, so the first thing to do is to sign in and to start. If you don't have a YouTube channel or a Google account, go to YouTube and click science in. You'll want to sign in with a Google account if you already have one. If you don't just click, the more options button and click Create account and you'll sign up for a new Google account will walk through the the typical things like setting up your email address, setting up your password, all that kind of stuff. If you're signing up for an account for the very first time, you might need to verify your account with a text. So I'm gonna go ahead and do that right now. Awesome. So I actually created a new email to show you how it would look. If you are starting a new channel from scratch, all you have to do is click on, continue to YouTube. Now you have your account set up. So what we're going to do next is start building out our channel. But first, let me show you if you already have a Gmail account or even if you have a YouTube channel, how do you create a new channel from that same account? If you already have an email you use with Gmail or with YouTube, it might be better to actually just create a new channel that is already connected so you don't have to sign in with multiple accounts. So here, with my video school online account, what I can do is actually go to YouTube settings. So if you click on your icon up there, go to YouTube settings in the overview. If I click under additional features, see all my channels or create a new channel, I can see all of the channels that I've started Wow, I've actually started a lot of channels in the top left. I can click, create a new channel, and to do that you're creating a brand account for your business or brand perfect. So I'll call this fills finance click create. Great. So now I have my channel set up, which is a different channel from my regular channel, and we should all be on the same page. So if you had created a brand new account, just goto click here and then go to my channel and you should see something like this. Now YouTube is currently actually testing out a new look, and they do often update will. Not too often, but sometimes they update the look or the feel of this style of things. Sometimes the channel are changes, size the position of the photo changes, so this might look a little different than what you're used to. Or this might change in the future. But the basics of what we're going to be going over, like how to actually add channel art, how to come up with your logo, how to add videos that should be the same. If you have any questions, they'll make sure that you just post them in the Q and a section of the course 24. Channel Art & Profile Icon: our brand new channel looks kind of boring, so let's spice it up. First, let's add our channel art and our profile picture. So if you're on your channel, remember, If you don't see your channel, just click on the option menu and go to my channel and then go over your profile picture and click the Edit Channel icon button. If you're using a brand account, it's going to ask you to edit the brand image from that brand account, which is actually a Google account itself. It's not just your YouTube channel accounts your whole Google account. I'll just click that upload video. I have some photos already that I'll use. I typically recommend using a picture of yourself if you are the main brand. If you are the part of the brand or if you have a logo, use a logo. So this is my brand account. It's not my YouTube account, so you see this option for channel art for the brand account. You can go ahead and change this, but let's go back to YouTube. And so now we're back on YouTube. It might take a few minutes or a few hours toe update your actual channel icon here. In the meantime, let's edit our channel art toe ad channel are Just click the Add Channel art button and choose a photo upload. Here you see the recommended channel Art size 25 60 by 14 40. Let's go ahead and create it. Using canvas dot com, I taught you how to use can, but before you can use whatever tool you want, they actually have a YouTube channel art in the popular designs. Or this would be under Social Media section of camera, so I'll just click. That And the channel are is interesting because it's a big image. 25 60 by 14 40. But only what's in the little middle part is actually seen. If you go back to Channel Art, and if you click this how to create channel art button down here, you could actually get more tips. Also, image size and file guidelines and templates for creating your channel art if you click on the channel aren't templates. You can download these templates and actually has an overlay so you can know where the text and logo safe area is. But let's just go back to Canada and try to design it ourself. So I'm going to start with one of these templates over here. I want to find something that has text in the center already. Maybe something like this. I'm going to have to make this smaller, so I know that it appears we can also test it out. Just to see I can just go in here, change up the text, and then under here, I'll say new new videos every week. Let me change the color because this is not my brand color. So I would, of course, find my Brian color or come up with something new. Think something like a green might work good, because finances I'm actually going to download this channel art template so that I can overlay it. And I hope this works on my Canada. So if I goto up loads, upload my own images, then go to the PNG overlay that's up loading. Just because I want to make sure that the text and everything looks good, this whole image will appear when people view your YouTube channel on the like, apple TV, APS and other types of out like that. Let me take this image. I'm just going to drag it onto the page just like so and now I have a better idea of where the logos safe area is cool. That looks pretty good. Now. I can delete this image behind if I want, which now leave this blank image box. And so let me go toe elements. Free photos and let's find something. Let's just search and see if there's something related to money. There's these icons here. Dollar bills here. It might take a little bit of time to find the right image within campus, So let's go to unspool ash dot com and see if there's any money images that might be better . Let's type of money. Cool. So these are a bit better. I kind of like this one. So I'm going to download this and see if that would work again, going to upload, uploading my image. And I hope this kind of lesson helps you just get the mindset that I have for creating channel are I know some of you. This might be a little bit boring and go ahead and skip this lesson if you want. You can also speed up these lessons typically, wherever you're watching this in the video player. If you want to kind of speed it up, I'm gonna drag on there. And so this is good to know where the dollar bill shows up so I can actually increase the size. If I want, I can move it up and down. So it looks like this actually has somewhat of a filter. So I can change the transparency up here if I want. The background is sort of this blue color, so I can change the transparency. Or I could add sort of a filter. Aiken, make it darker, make it brighter, or use one of these filters up here. I kind of like the grayscale look, But when I do that, the Phils Finance Hex doesn't appear. So if I drop capacity, that kind of looks cool. If I want to change the color of the background, let me just make this image really small first and then choose the background and maybe just choose a black background or a gray or something like that that gives a totally different sort of effect. This is, of course, where you could also put your logo. One idea I have is just changing the S to a dollar sign. Kind of unique kind of creative. I just want to see it without that line. Okay, Cool. This is looking pretty good. I don't want to spend too much time on this. I could spend hours tweaking this. Let me just change the color of the hit. Subscribe. So let's download this all download the PNG download. And what I like to do is make a new folder on my computer to make sure that all of my assets for my YouTube channel are in one place. All my logos, images that I use when I start creating videos. I'll put those in the folder when I create thumbnails that put those within those folders as well. So I saved that. Now let's go back to our channel, go back to Channel Art while seems like a while since we were here. Select the photo and now you can actually see a preview of what it's going to look like on desktop TV and mobile. So you can see here. This is what it looks like on a TV. You can adjust the crop by clicking, adjust crop. You can zoom in, zoom out move this around. I would definitely prefer if you didn't do that, because that might pixel eight your image because it might not be the right size and then just select click Select. And okay, now, I just wanted to double check, so I refresh. I also zoomed out for recording these lessons. I usually zoom in so the Texas a little bit easier to see and that looks pretty darn good. I actually think that's pretty pretty cleaning pretty classy. I might go in to make some tweaks, but you see here that are Channel Icon is not loading. It will ultimately show up in our channel after a few minutes. So don't worry. Sit tight. In the meantime, we're going to move forward and talk about how you can make your channel even better with things like a description and adding links. 25. Channel Description: next, you're going to add a channel description you can see here. I did a quick little update of my channel. Art thought this image was a little bit less distracting in the background toe. Add your channel description. You should see a big edit button right here for your description. Or if you've already added one, you can just click on any of these little pencil icons toe edit here. I've already added mine, so I can quickly show you some tips on a description. This is just a brief introduction of you and your channel toothy audience. So some things to keep in mind our to include the main keywords for your channel right here in the channel description. So the channel title is good, but also what your channel is going to be about, including some other keywords that are related. So not just personal finance, for example, for my channel. But I've included things like early retirement, investing, budgeting, side hustles, minimalism, things that are related to personal finance that will help people find our channel. And if people are interested in these other things as well, they might be more likely to subscribe. That's basically the goal with all of these tools that we have our channel art, our description, even the videos we create. We're trying to get people to subscribe because with more subscribers were more likely to get more views on our new videos, which will help them rank higher even faster. Also, in your description showed the benefit of what people are getting from your channel. You can see here that I say Subscribe now to get our weekly videos in your inbox and to learn how to make more, save more and worry less about money. That's the ultimate goal with this channel that I'm creating, and if people like that benefit, they'll be more likely to subscribe. So make sure you don't just talk about what your channel is about, but what benefit people are getting from your channel. When you done editing click done, you can have up to, I think, 1000 characters in your description, and it doesn't Onley appear here on your description page. Sometimes it appears when people search four channels, for example, if I search for personal finance and you can search for specifically channels underneath the filters, the radical personal finance channel doesn't even have a description. But some of these you see the description starts right here, and that will help people decide whether the click on the channel or not. So you want to make sure you have a good description, especially at the beginning. The first line is most important. That's why I like asking a question, including that word you in the beginning of my channel description because that calls out to the user. That's the channel description. Go out and add years. If you haven't done so yet, then we'll meet back here and continue editing our channel. 26. Customize Your Channel Design: right now, this is what our channel looks like kind of plane, right? But also, we don't have all the options that a channel like, for example, video school online has, which includes a channel trailer. We can include links to other channels within our network or really just any other channels that we like. We can organize the home page of our channel with playlists, reorganizing them the way that they are laid out, and we can even include links here at the top of the channel. So to set that up, what you need to choose is this little gear icon. This brings up your channel settings so you can turn on and off things like the privacy settings for videos that you like. If you want to keep private or not, subscriptions playlists also customize your layout of your channel, so click that to turn on and then click Save. This gives you more advanced settings for what your channel looks like. Now you can see that we have these different tabs for the home screen of our channel videos , playlist, channels, about which is where our description is over. On the right hand side, we have the future channels that we like. We can also turn on and off the popular channels on YouTube that are related to our channel . On the about section. Now we can add things like our business email address, which is great for people to be able to find if you are running a business and you want to give the people people an opportunity to contact you, and I encourage that you do this because you never know why people might reach out to you. Maybe you'll get a few spam messages here in there. But I've got in people who have asked me about my classes about my products and services. I've also been able to reach out to other you tubers to be a part of my podcast, for example, using this email address or the partner on a project. So this is easy way for other businesses to connect with you to perhaps work on a project together, so I would include including your business information here. Also, you can put your links. You can have up to five links. Just click the add button and then you can add a title. For example, if I put my website. Then I put the website your L for my home page, for example, and I click Done. What happens is you see here website pops up, so you'll want to make sure that you put what this website is Phil's site, for example, that might look better. It also shows the icon or the fabric Khan for your website up here, too. So if you don't have that fabric on set up, please do so. I showed you how to do this in the WordPress section. For different website builders, it's going to be different. But that's the little icon that appears at the top of any Web browser. So if you add one site, that's what it looks like. But say we add two sites to say I add video school online, for example. Click Done. Now, Video school online will just appear as an icon. So the reason why I bring this up is to make sure that your first link is the link. That's most important. So, for example, on video school online, my first link is my offer for new subscribers to video school in line to get $1 for an entire month of my membership plan. So if you have ah, lead magnet or a landing page that you want to direct people to make that your first link, So that's how you add links. And I would definitely do that first thing. If you have other channels, just click the add channel button. You can add a channel of your own, or you can add a channel that is nine years and now video school online appears right there . So if you have another channel, I would recommend adding that there you can preview your channel as yourself or as someone who is a new visitor to use your channel. This is going to look different, For example, for a video school online. If you're a new viewer, you'll see this channel trailer, which is a welcome to video school in line, which is something I highly recommend doing, and that's going to be one of our next videos and task. But returning subscribers don't see this. They go straight to the latest upload, which is good because you don't want someone who's return returning subscriber to just be bombarded with the same message every time. So that's how you customize your channel layout. Really? The first thing that I think you should do is create that channel trailer. So that's what we're going to be covering in the next video. 27. Add a Channel Trailer: your YouTube channel trailer is very important, in my opinion, because it is the first video someone will see when they come to your website here. Let's watch the video school online YouTube channel because I think it is a good example of what you should do. Thanks for checking out the video school online YouTube channel. What this channel is about, explains how often will be posting new videos. It explains the benefit people will be getting being a better photographer, being a better video creator. And it also has not only the call to action to subscribe, but mentions video school online dot com. If your focus is just to grow a YouTube channel. You might not want to have that second call to action because that can confuse people might be too many options. So your main called action, might just be to subscribe to YouTube. And that's totally fine and definitely one called action. You should include in your channel trailer. But if you are selling other products and services include that in your video. Just so people are aware that there is that other platform that you have services or products or content to offer to them toe add a channel trailer. You'll first have to actually upload some content, so we're going to be uploading videos in one of the next lessons. But once you upload that and you go to the home page of your channel, where you can see is the view for returning subscribers. And for Newsom visitors go to the new visitors tab, and then you'll have this little edit icon. Then click the edit option to change or add your trailer. Then you just pick any of your videos. So if you've uploaded your channel trailer just selected from the videos you've uploaded, click save. So in the past few videos you've seen a lot of the basic suggestions I have for updating your channel page. In the next lessons, we're going to go back into more the back and settings to verify your account and turn on some other more advanced settings that will help you improve your channel. 28. Channel Settings & Verification: Let's dive into our channel settings because there's a lot of cool things that we can do there to enable some new features and to just improve our channel. So go up into your icon and choose creator studio. This will take you into your back, and this is where you'll meet up loading, managing videos, doing all kinds of cool stuff that will be going over in future lessons. If you click on Channel, this will take you to your channel Status and features page. You can see here that my channel images here I did a little green overlay again, going with the money theme. The first thing you should do is verify. So click the verify button to verify that you are a person. You are not a robot. That's basically what this means. So you want to select the country that you're in, and whether to call or text, you will need a phone number. That's how Google and YouTube verifies that you're a human, so you will have to plug in your phone number. So I'm going to go ahead and do that right now. You can Onley verify to YouTube accounts per phone number so if you've created to accounts in the past year, you'll have to find another person with a phone number to verify your account. Click continue once you've been verified, Once you've been verified, you'll notice that some of these options are your now eligible for. So the next step would be to go through here and try to verify or enable all of these. So the ones that I'm eligible for I'll just start enabling. So live streaming on able, Which is great because YouTube live is really important now. So just by doing clicking that enable button were enabled to do live streaming gonna go back to my channel for monetization. This is another important thing. If you want to build your YouTube channel and eventually make money from it first, you're going to have to choose your country location. Not all countries, I believe, are eligible for monetization, so I'm going to choose my country with which is the United States. And this actually brought us to another page, the advanced page underneath our channel tab. So let's stay here and let's add some of some more information whenever you have the opportunity to add keywords to your description to your YouTube channel keywords to the tags of your videos. It's important to figure out what your main keywords are. You shouldn't just put it make a list of hundreds of keywords. Usually it's better to limit it to the more specific ones that again will match people's expectations. So if someone searches for this keyword and they come upon your channel, if you don't have videos about that topic, then they're going to click away. And that's going to hurt hurt your channel ranking. So I'm going to include personal finance. And the way that this works is that every word is its own keyword. If you have a phrase, for example, early retirement, put that in quotes. You don't have to use commas between words. You can just put them there with spaces. Next, you have the option to disallow advertisements from playing alongside or videos or to disable interest based ads. I would just leave these as the default settings. By changing this, this will decrease the amount of revenue you have the potential revenue you have making. If you don't have an ADWORDS account, you will have to sign up for an AdWords account, so goto adwords dot google dot com. Click, sign in or start now. Follow the instructions for starting your AdWords account again. I know people have had issues in the past starting an AdWords account, depending on the country. Let us know if you have any issues. Also, you will have to link a bank account, I believe, to start your ad hours account, but you don't actually have to pay anything to start and AdWords account. You don't actually have to start purchasing ads. You'll get your customer i d. You paste that in this box, click next and then a sign of name to this outwards account. I'll call this fills finances. Leave all of these checked and click finish. Now our AdWords account is associated with this YouTube channel. So if we want to do things like boost videos or create a YouTube odd, we can do that in the future. The next setting on this page is to associate a website. This is a very important step because will now be able to do things like add YouTube cards that direct people to our own website. If you don't associate your website, you actually can't link to your own website using things like YouTube cards. And so this is important. Click the learn more button and then under Step two, there are settings for a so ding associating your site to your YouTube channel. For example, if I want to verify Phil evident dot com, what I'll have to do is put in that girl. Then click the verify button to associate this site to verify that I actually own this website. They're different methods for verifying your website. You'll have to follow these steps. There's alternate methods. If this recommended method doesn't work for you, I know this can be a little bit confusing. It's different for different website platforms, so I can't. I'm not gonna spend a lot of time going through this different steps because it's going to be different for each person watching this class. If you're confused, click this. Learn more button or try using one of the alternate methods. And then there's a couple other settings that you might want to check out channel recommendations. If you want, allow your channel to appear in other channels. Recommendations turn. Leave that on. If for some reason you don't, you can turn that off. But, hey, why not? Because that's more people potentially clicking onto your channel and then subscriber count . You can display or not display it when you're starting out. You might not want to display this because if you're a channel doesn't have a lot of subscribers, it might make people a little hesitant to subscribe to your channel. So when starting out, I might just turn that off and then, lastly, we have a Google Analytics property tracking idea. This allows you to see analytics for your YouTube channel with Google Analytics. We don't necessarily need this because YouTube itself provides a lot of analytics, and that's what we're going to be covering in this part of the course. So those are some of the main channel status features and advanced settings, and the next video we'll go over. Some of these other options, such as the defaults, featured content in branding 29. Upload Defaults and Featured Content: under the channel option in your creator studio, we have a few more options to go through. Upload defaults. This. It makes up loading videos a lot more efficient, so you'll want Teoh set your default, such as the category that your video is. So, for example, for my channel, I'd probably put my channel category under education for license. Typically, you'll want to put standard YouTube license. Unless all the videos that you're putting on YouTube you're allowing other people to use, and that would be under creative calm. Commons for a title. I usually leave this default blank unless you are just doing a series of videos and, for example, at the end of every video you say Episode one or whatever. And so maybe you would have this so that at the end of every title, it's already when you click, upload and you start uploading a video. This is already the title, so you can quickly just change this to 23 etcetera. I do highly suggest changing your description for every video, especially those first few lines. Teoh. Make sure that it's attention grabbing for people searching for your videos, but at the bottom of your description. You might want to include things like links to your website caused action. More information, perhaps information just about your channel to include a few more keywords in there. So definitely add that to your description. Same with tags. For example, With this channel, every time I upload a video, I'll probably want to include the tag fills finances. So add that tag with a comma. Perhaps I want to put my own name in there as well, perhaps personal finance. So these air tags that will appear on every video and rather than having to type them out every time I might put these three is important to make your tags specific to the video. So don't include every single tag. For example, I want to include things like early retirement minimalism because some of my videos not might not be about those. And, yes, I could quickly delete those when I'm uploading the video. But it might be easier for me. Just add specific keywords to paying on what the video is about. I would definitely include the video language for whatever you're speaking so that it's all automated for caption certification. Typically, you want to just choose. This content has never aired on television in the US unless something is different. Video location. This is something that I actually don't include. But if you want to put a video location, say you're in one area. You can make this, and then people are able to see where your video is, and you can also make the stats of your video publicly visible or not. So just go through those. Make sure you set those to whatever you want and, of course, click save when you go to your featured content page. This gives you two. Option one is your channel ad. So if you don't add the channel trailer from the homepage of your channel like we learned before, this is another way to do it. Just click that button choosers your video and then for featured content. This is video that will appear at the end of all of your videos, and you might see this when you're watching a YouTube video, you might see a little video pop up. You can choose the most recent upload, or you can choose a specific video or Leila's. So if there's one video that is super popular or perhaps a promotional video for one of your products or services. You might want to choose that video because then that will pop up on all of your videos. I have always chosen the most recent upload to just give people the most recent content that I've created, because if they search for whatever keyword there searching for, they find one of my older videos. I like having my recent videos pop up so that they know I'm creating more contact, so I usually choose recent upload. But that's up to you. When you choose your featured video, you can choose when you want it to display. You can choose a custom start time or at the end of video. I typically do at the end of the video, and then I just choose optimized timing. YouTube takes care of it next and last. For this video we have branding. This is a water mark that shows in the bottom corner of your video click Add watermark to select your image. It's best to choose an image with a transparent background, so it appears nice and clean. One quick tip to get more subscribers is to choose a little subscribe image. So I have found one on Google just in Google search. It's from free icons, so I've downloaded that one, and I just search for subscribe button, So I'm going to choose that under my graphics. Upload that and click Save. Now. This little subscribe now but and will pop up in the bottom corner of all my videos. And when people click on the this watermark, whether it's a subscribe now button or an image of your face or your logo, it will take them to your channel page. And that's where people can actually subscribe. When you click save, you can see what it looks like. That's kind of cool. And again you can customize when this pops open. I like having it start at a custom time around five seconds, or maybe even a little later, because it pops up and that is a little bit more eye catching than if you have it just for the entire video. People might not notice it as much as if it does pop up, so that's just a quick little tip. Once you do have a lot of subscribers, it might be better to put your logo on there just to get people aware of your branding again, using simple logos, branding colors that we talked about earlier in this course. Thanks for watching this video. Now we have basically our channel set up. So in the next videos, we're going to be learning about uploading content and the best s CEO practices for doing so. 30. Uploading Videos: Here's how you upload a video on YouTube. I'm in my creator studio on my dashboard. Really? From any place on YouTube, you can click this little upload icon in the top right corner next to your profile icon. Next, you can simply drag and drop files right here to upload or click here to choose your file. Right now, you can set the privacy from public, unlisted, private or scheduled, and I'll talk about that in a second, or you can change it later. So I'm just going to click here and she's my file. I have a video that I created and put it on my video school online channel called How to Become a Millionaire The Slow and Steady Way. So I'm just going to re upload that to this channel just to show you. So select that file click open now. It already imports some of this data from the file, so the file title, the actual title of your file, is imported. Sometimes you have to do a couple different changes, depending on if you had characters in your title or not. If this isn't the name of your file and you want to name it differently, you would change it. Here. You can see that some of our default settings have already been added. For example, are attacks. You saw that it was up loading really quickly. I have relatively fast Internet. Your uploads might take longer or shorter, depending on your Internet speed. Once it up loads, it has to process. So it uploads to YouTube servers, and then it processes it to make sure that it plays back properly. It's not going to be published until we hit this publish button. First, we have the title of our video. My main advice is to use the same tips that I gave you for coming up with better email subject lines and writing better titles for your articles, just moving to the right really quickly. We have our publish settings. This sometimes confuses people. Public is public. Anyone can find it unlisted in private are a little different. Unlisted means that your video isn't going to be able to be searched for by anybody. It's not going to show up in the search engines, but you can still share your the link to this video with anybody in the link appears right here over on the left, or you can just get it from the page once it's published and you're on that video page. This is an easy way to share YouTube videos with other people, but anyone convey you it with the link. If you choose private, it's only going to be able to be seen if you share it with people. So if you click share and you add email addresses to this, it will share it with those people. Even if someone else has a link to this video, they won't be able to see it unless you share it with them. So that's a little bit more private and then last you have scheduled, which is great because I love batch up loading in publishing videos on YouTube. Coming up with the schedule is a great idea, a weekly schedule. So you have videos coming out at the same time on the same days every week. That will encourage subscribers to tune in every week or two. At least be aware that you come out with new content every week, so a scheduling is great. You can set your day in time there. Once you put click scheduled right below this, you have an also share on option. Right now, I have Twitter as an option. And so if you want to connect your Twitter account with YouTube, just click that button and then sign in to your Twitter account. Beneath this option for sharing on Twitter is the message to your video, which will be what is shared on Twitter as well as Google Plus, because your videos by default will be shared on your Google plus profile, even though not that many people use Google. Plus, it's important to add a message here. So, for example, you might want to just do a quick announcement. Hey, new video about becoming a millionaire. Talk about what the video is about. But this isn't necessarily your description, just continuing our clockwise circle around all these settings we have add to playlist playlists are so important on YouTube, and not that many people take advantage of them. It allows you to create a series of videos or just a group of related videos, and that encourages people to watch even mawr of your videos. You can include your videos in multiple playlists and playlist also show in search results So, for example, I would probably want to create a playlist for personal finance videos. Click Create to add that that playlists. And perhaps I may make a a specific become a millionaire playlists because I might have future videos that are related to becoming a millionaire. And I'll include this video in that one as well as you create more playlists. When you do upload new videos and you click add playlist, all of your current playlist will appear here. Here's this video already published on YouTube, so I want to show you the description that I used and talk you through it. So the top of the description I have these first few lines about what this video is. Here's how to become a millionaire that slow and steady way, so sometimes all kind of just rehashed with the title of the video is maybe talk more about the benefit of the video, definitely using key words at the top of the description. Through this description, I include some more information about the video plus, um, or keywords. This is the description of this video. So this is what I would have typed into this description box so whenever I upload a video on video school online, all of this information is uploaded by default. You have my called action that I put on every video free seven step guide. Quick, please subscribe to the channel and leave a comment below. Not necessary, but just a friendly reminder and then links to all of my other pages that I think people would be interested in. Next. Let's look at our tags. Tags are so important we have our default tags. But then I would add more tags related to this specific video How to Become a millionaire. So I include not just individual words, but also phrases. Here's a quick tip. Four. Kind of spying on your competitors tags this for inspiration again, not necessarily just for copying. So when I upload a new video, I typically search for that topic on YouTube and I'll find one of the most popular videos. So I'll click on this first video, for example, I'm using Google Chrome, but you should be able to do this no matter what browser you're using. If you right click on the page and choose view page source, it brings up all of the HTML code for this Web page. If I do a command F on a Mac, which will be control F on a PC and search for key words, it will bring up all of the tags for this video Now. This video, for example, doesn't come up with some great keywords because it's all about entrepreneur dot com. So let's try this other one. How to Become a Millionaire with $5 a day. So I right click this pew page source. Here we see the key words that they use how to become a millionaire. Become a millionaire. How to Become a millionaire as a teenager. How to Be a Millionaire millionaire Lots of tags with specific phrases So I might do that. How to Become a millionaire Slowly. How to Become a Millionaire Fast Just you never know someone might be interested in my video if they are searching for that. How to retire because someone that is interested in retirement might be interested in this as well. How to save money again. Just related keywords that people are interested. Not all the time are my keywords or my tags, how to how to a lot of the times they just might be. For example, if I do an adobe aftereffects tutorial, it just might be after effects tutorial and then specifics about what that tutorial is about. Lots of people ask me how maney tags should I use. The key is not to go over boat board. It's important to stick to specific key words and tags, so I would recommend between five and 15 15 if you have a lot of specific keywords related to your video. At the end of the day, though, remember, and I know this is repeating myself, but you want to match the person's expectations with your video contact. So don't include tags that if someone searches for that and watches your video, they're not going to be interested in your video and click off hurt your ranking last thumbnails. So add a custom thumb. Now, just choose this custom thumbnail button. You get three options right here, but I highly encourage you to create a custom thumbnail. I have a couple different options, one that I just took a screenshot of a specific part of my video that I think might work better, or this other 11 million. The slow and steady way with a little turtle, You want to pay attention to the size of text. If you have text on your image, you know you want might one of you at a smaller size, because this is the size that people are going to be seeing when they search for your videos. So having super small text isn't necessarily a good thing. So having more bold text is better. Something that can be read like this. Your thumbnail should be related to your video. Don't make it about something else just to get people to click on it. Thumbnail trends have changed. It used to be that you wanted to include text on your thumb. Now for a while it was. Put your face on it. Now it's hard to tell what the trends are about. What I like to do is look at the trending videos on YouTube, so if you click on the YouTube menu over here and go to the trending menu, you'll see the trending videos. And so I like to just see what people are doing. Some people are still using text. A lot of people are doing those funny faces and then either some text or another image that explains a little bit more about what the video is. Sometimes the thumb now doesn't really relate to what the video is, or you don't really know much about what the video is. For example, this guy right here who has a very popular channel, you never know what his videos are about, just based off the thumb. Now you have tow read more about it in the title I like, including text in my images, especially if I'm going to be embedding my video onto my website. Here's my Neon scientist Auriol on Video School Online, The Blogger article The thumbnail appears as this big image inthe e embedded video, So I like having the text on here. So it's really easy for people to know what this video is about. If they come to this page at the end of the day, I guess the point is that picking a thumbnail is important. It's important to match. The content is important to build curiosity with your thumb now, but there's no specific right or wrong way to do it. Just keep testing, see what videos work well for you. What thumbnails work well for you. Pay attention to what trending videos and channels are doing with their thumb nails and use it as inspiration. All right, so that's basically how you upload a video and how you improve your S CEO settings with all of these things. And then all you have to do is click publish. So what I'll do is just click publish. And now our video is available to the world. It gives you the link here. Or if you want to go to the video page, just click the text up here or the thumbnail image over on the left. And now we have our first video live on YouTube. 31. YouTube SEO: Let's talk about YouTube s CEO with any type of content. Marketing S Seo will be important. Blogged articles, videos, podcast anything because the easier people confined your videos, the more people will watch them. The higher your rank will be, the more people will watch them. The more people that watch them, the more people that will buy your products at the end of your funnel with YouTube S CEO is all about watch time and not views. It's because people were able to game the system. They could pay people toe click on their video, watch it over and over and over. And YouTube soon realized that this wasn't necessarily a good way to determine S CEO if someone clicked on a video and watched it for a longer period of time. That's what it's all about. We don't know the exact formula for what watch time means, because it's not about how long necessarily a video is and how long someone watches it, because a video that 60 minutes long that gets a lot of engagement versus a video that's one minute long and gets a lot of engagement. The amount of watch time is going to be different. So it does take into account things like the percentage of watch time, the percentage of your video that's watch. But also what happens after stolen watches? Your video. Do they click on to your YouTube channel? Do they watch another video of yours? Those are also indicators that will improve your S E O. You can even see here. I'm on the analytics of my video school online channel. You can see the watch Time is the most important stat, at least in terms of where they visually put this in our analytics saying, Hey, Phil, this is the most important stat So you can see here over a 1,000,000 minutes watched in my videos for the past 30 day, 28 days, actually average view duration, three minutes, 12 views you can see here three over 300,000 which makes sense with the average view duration. So as you're creating videos, you want to make sure that you're paying attention to how long people are watching your videos. You can see things, and we're going to dive into analytics a little bit later on as we go through building our channel. But quickly you can see your watch time, and then you can go to your individual videos and see the watch time for those videos, including the average view duration. So you should be looking at your videos, seeing the average average view duration. See the ones that work well and use those techniques to create more videos like that. See the ones that aren't getting watches much and change it. Change up your your process. Don't do it as many videos like that. And at the end of the day, it's all about matching the person's expectations with the content you delivered. This is the exact same thing with your blogged articles or your sales copy. If someone clicks on your YouTube video because they liked the title of it or they like the thumbnail, they want to have their expectations matched. You want to deliver with content that they were expecting to see. That's why it clear thumbnails are also a good idea, because if you're putting a thumbnail of a girl in a bikini, a lot of guys air going to click on that. But then, if your video is about personal finance, the people that clicked on it because of that girl in the bikini are going to be upset and they're gonna click off. And so your watch time is going to be very low, and YouTube's going to see that and penalize you for that, Basically meaning that videos ranking is going to go really down. So if you want to improve your search engine ranking on YouTube, think about watch time. 32. Adding Cards & End Screens: in this video, I want to show you how to add YouTube cards and end screens, which make the video itself clickable both on mobile devices and desktop. But first, I also wanted to show you this is a new layout that YouTube it's testing. Literally. While I was recording this course, they gave me the option to test out this new layout. So, as I mentioned before, when you're creating your channel, things might look a little different as you're creamier channel. But the way you do it is basically the same. So let's add a card to one of my recent videos. This Learn Adobe in 30 Minutes Video just launched today, and I want to add a card that links to the course that I'm promoting. Its a free lead magnet course. But it's a course that I'm promoting with this video so you can get into any of your videos by clicking the edit video on the video page itself or by going through your dashboard. So, for example, if I go into my creator studio, then go to video manager. Here's where you'll see all of your videos that you've uploaded and you can see here that I have many videos ready to publish. One thing that you'll notice here I'm on the backend of video school online and not my fills finances Channel that we've been working on is I have these extra little buttons. It's called TB and then has it next to here. There's TB up here. What that is is an external plug in that I've purchased called to Buddy. What to Buddy offers me is to quickly create templates. For example, with cars, you can add templates. You can also bulk publish items so I can actually bulk at it. Descriptions, tags add cards, toe lots of videos all at once, so that makes editing YouTube videos much more efficient. So if you're interested in that, that's what too buddy is. And that's why you won't see these little buttons right here. So they add a card. Let's go down to the adobe light room. You can just click the down button and click cards toe. Add a card first, go to the point in the video where you want to add that card where it will pop up, so I'll do this in the video. When I start talking about a product that I wanted card for or just at the start of the video, so I'll go to about seven seconds. Then click add card again. We have this too, buddy Option that you're not going to see. Click Add card and you have different options. You can create a card for another video playlists, another channel to donate for a non profit of your choice that YouTube has partnered with a pole or a link. Choosing a link allows you to send people to an associated website. Remember how we associate ID our website before? That's why that was so important. So we can link out using cards to our website. If you have associated with your website, you'll see it pop up down here. Or you could plug in your websites your oral to a specific page here thing click next. It brings in information from your websites, for example. If there's images on the website, it will bring it in there and the title of the website. I customize this to make sure it's as actionable as possible. The car title and the call to action appear on the card itself, and I'll show you that after we create it. And the teaser text is what pops up on the YouTube video while it's playing, and then people have the opportunity to click that teaser text. So for the teaser text, I'll say something like Enroll for Free. That's probably good enough to get a lot of people to click this. And then for the car title, all say something like Learn Adobe in 30 minutes. It's a more actionable than just Adobe in 30 minutes, and then the call to action is click to enroll. This image is all right. I'd probably want to customize the image so that all of the logos of the different Adobe products are within this square frame. This was just taking it from the page itself. I'm just going to leave it at as is, but you can create custom square images for your cards, which might be a better idea. Then click create card. Now your card appears, and it's this little information button up here that you can click on to see what it looks like. So now you can go in and see. Okay, learn adobe in 3rd 30 minutes. That looks pretty good. Maybe If you want it on one line, you might want to edit it. If you want to add anything, you can just click this edit card button. That's already added. So now, if we click on our video and I just open it up in a new tab and let's see what happens with the card up here, just pay attention up here at seven seconds. What it pops up and roll for free. Now, if you click that you see the card. If you click the card, it takes you to the free course page. Cool, right, And this works in mobile devices to the end screen is very similar. We used to have annotations, and they're rolling out annotations so you're not going to be able to use annotations actually currently, but annotations were the first sort of way that people were able to interact with the video itself. Now they have what's called the end screen that pops up in the last 30 seconds of your video, and so it's very similar to the cards over to the right. You have elements so you can add things like links to any page of your associated website for some reason it picked his image of me, so I'd probably want to change that if I was actually publishing this. And now you have this image that pops up here and you can actually move it around your end screen. So this is how, at the end of your videos, you could say stuff like, If you're interested in learning more, click this button down to my right are click this button down here and point to it, and that's how this will pop up with end screens. You have to have at least one video or playlist added, so you can't save if you don't have a video or playlist, so I'll add one more playlist. Let's just do best for viewer, and YouTube will select a video from my channel that's related to this video and at it, and we'll put it up here. So in the video, you might say something like like up here to watch my most recent video, where or another video you're interested in. So now you can see that it we can save it, so we click save, and now all this stuff will appear on our video in the last 30 seconds. This is a great way to promote products or services related to the content of your video. And if someone has made it to the end of your video, that's beautiful. That means they're very interested in what you're talking about. Remember the Aida funnel Awareness, Interest, Desire action there in that interest phase and potentially moving towards that desire? And here you can reinforce that idea. I want to prove to you why adding cards and end screens is important. I'm in my analytics for video school online and under analytics. You have with the cards option here, I can see how many people are clicking on the teaser text and then actually clicking on the cards. So within the past month, over 100 people have clicked from YouTube to one of my cards. That's 100 people going from YouTube to my website. And that's not even including people who are clicking from links in the description or just calls to action that I say within the video. So it's definitely something that you should use its something that YouTube has been pushing a lot for the past year or so, so they're definitely wanting creators to use the cards, and they work on mobile devices as well. So that's another benefit of using the cards versus just using something like a description . So take action. Add cards to your videos and, of course, check out your analytics to see which cards work and which ones don't and slowly improve with that data. 33. YouTube Analytics: I'm going to dive into some of the other back and settings and features of the YouTube Creator studio in order of what I think is important. So first in this video we're going to go into analytics and then the following videos, we're going to look at the community tab and the live streaming tab. Life streaming is a whole new way to create videos. It's a very efficient way to create videos and also to create engaging weekly or daily, even content to encourage people to subscribe. First with analytics, there's a lot that you can go in and just play around with. I'm just going to show you just how it works, basically, and then talk about which ones I think are the most important and how you can use that to increase your YouTube following and your views. If you click on analytics, you go to your overview. We've seen this before. I give you a quick snapshot of watch time views. Average view, duration your estimated revenue If you have ads set up on your videos, likes, dislikes, comments all of this stuff. It shows your top 10 videos, including their watch time. The revenue that they bring in your top demographic information, like where people are watching where people are coming from. For example, if you look at traffic sources you can see are people coming from search terms? Are people coming from suggested videos that you two brings up on other videos? That kind of thing. You can see if your demographics are male versus female and also our people watching on the YouTube page. If they're watching on mobile, if they're watching on other websites, that kind of thing at the top And this is similar in any of these specific menus, you can change from the last 28 days to any other time frame you can customize in all kinds of ways. One thing that I like to see is just do a big overview of the lifetime of my channel to make sure that all of the graphs are headed in the right direction. So there you can see that watch time for me and views started out really slow. I had this big spike here. I don't even remember what that was. But just this upward trend is what you're looking for. So if you don't see an upward trend. Then you got to do something different to make sure you're getting that sort of upward trend I can zoom into. How about the last 3 65 days? This is a better indication, has a better view, so you can see that probably about eight months ago or so. I was doing a lot more things on my YouTube channel, and that's because I put out some videos that went a little bit more viral than my other videos. But still, the upper trend continues, even at a more gradual pace. If you're interested in growing YouTube revenue, go to your revenues have and this is going to take a while. You're not going to make a lot of money from your channel very quickly. You can see here that in the past year I've made about $12,000 on YouTube. It's not my whole business, so that's totally fine by hey, in actual $12,000 for posting content that drives people to my other products and services , all take it. So if I look at the last 28 days, which is typical, what will typically do is look and see which videos brought in the most money automatically I can see. And this is similar across not just revenue, but watch, time, view, count and all those other analytics that my most popular videos on YouTube, our personal finance videos. That's why I'm considering starting this whole other channel. Clum feels finances. It's not just for this class and something that I've thought about doing so. If I want to increase my revenue, I need to create more videos like this. Different topics of videos make a different amount of revenue. It really depends on. If the topic is ideal for advertisers, there's a lot of people advertising financial products, and so a lot of people probably put out ads on these types of videos. Other types of videos, like editing with premiere Pro after effects that drives a lot of traffic to my courses. But they're not as valuable to advertisers as the personal finance videos, so that's something you should be looking at while you create your channel. If you're doing videos on different types of topics, look and see which ones drive the most traffic, get the most watched time, make the most money and then make more videos like that one stat that I like looking under is traffic sources and then going down and just seeing the YouTube search. If you click on YouTube Search, you'll see which terms people are searching for to find your videos. Interestingly, I have a video that explains baseball how baseball works in five minutes. It's not a top revenue earner, but it's one of my videos that gets a lot of views. And so I get a lot of people searching for terms related baseball. That's my mistake in terms of this channel. I definitely think you should have a more focused channel on a specific topic, but I've started doing a lot of experimentation recently. I just launched a documentary about Anthony Carbajal. So a lot of people are searching for his name, apparently in the past month. So this will also give you idea of what people are searching for. And then you create more content using those keywords. And then the last that that all mentioned is the demographics tap. Here you see information more specific about male versus female, but also age range. So most of the viewers of my channel are between 18 and 34 years old and their mail. This is going to affect the personality of my videos, the tone, the way that I talk. If I want to gear more, tours, female and get more of those viewers, perhaps maybe there's something that I have to change in the way that I create my videos. Perhaps naturally, I get more male viewers just because of who I am, How I look, how I talked, the topics that I talk about my videos. So this is both for seeing who is your viewer so that you can better serve that viewer but also see who isn't your viewer, and how can you potentially open up your brand to them? Basically, all you have to do is find out what's working right for you and do more of that and your analytics will show you exactly how to do it. 34. The Community Tab: next we have the community tab, and this is a great way to efficiently respond to comments and messages. You could go to each individual video and respond there. But here's just an aggregate of all of the comments on all of your videos. So it's super easy to respond. Like dislike. Comments to speak trash comments If there are spam comments, YouTube doesn't block a lot of spam comments because people are always posting links on my videos so you can filter through all of this spam comments Lee. All of them if you want. So here you see just so many spam comments. Some of them are spam, so it's important to look through them. Have your messages, which are direct messages to your channel. This is typically YouTuber is trying to connect with you, so it's going to go in here often and respond subscribers. This is a cool tab that shows you all your subscribers. The one thing I'll mention about this is that you can organized by most popular subscribers . Partnering with other you tubers is one of the best ways to increase your subscribers and your presence on YouTube and to find people who might be interested in partnering with you . You can go to your subscribers to have to find the most popular ones, and then these people might be perfect to partner with. It depends on what they're interested in. Maybe they have a channel that's about something else. But if it's about something similar, hey, reach out to them and see if they want a partner because they're already aware of you. They might be more likely to partner. Super Chat isn't something I've dived into its a way that you can actually sell products during a YouTube live stream. So that's something that potentially could be a source of revenue. There you have your community settings. This is where you can actually block users. I've had problems with people spamming me too much. And so sometimes, for example, I'll actually block that user. You can add moderators and approve users toe help you with your channel. You also have your default settings down below for allowing comments on your videos and your channel, and then lastly, you can see your credits. This is if you are partnering with other you tubers obviously haven't done much of this, Alex. I haven't credited people as much as I should have, but this is where you can credit other channels for helping out with your videos. So that's the community tab. Basically, the main reasons why I use this is to quickly respond to comments and messages. 35. Livestreaming on YouTube: going live on. Social media is super popular right now, and you can do so on YouTube. You click on the live streaming tab. You have two options stream now and invents Stream. Now is a more confusing way to do life streaming. It gives you a little bit more flexibility, perhaps a little bit higher quality options. But there's an easier way to go live right now, and that's through this events option, and that's what I'm going to show you how to do right now with events, you can do a live stream without any other software. All you need to do is click new live event, and you can actually use Google hangouts, which was an older. I think it's discontinued software to do a live stream, so when you click create a new event, you can title it. You can say when it is you can actually schedule in the future, which is awesome. If you want to schedule out live streams in the future so that you can share on social media or with your email list, that's something that I've done. You can even do webinars this way. So if you're looking for a freeway toe do webinars. This is how you do it. It's going to call his test. You make it public unlisted. I'm just gonna make it unlisted. And then the type is quick or custom. With custom, you need to use an external encoder. It's a little bit more confusing, so we're just gonna do the quick route with Google hangouts on air. So click Go live. Now you'll want to include a description and tags that are relevant. Once it's ready to stream, you click OK, and this will open up Google hangouts on air. It's going to load down here and then when it says start broadcast, that means you're ready to go live. You can do screens sharing up here just by clicking this button and then choosing the screen that you want to share or a specific application. You can also turn that on and off during a live stream, so click start broadcast. It will ask you if you're ready, you're gonna stream upto eight hours and then when it gives you the on air, but in live, it means you're on air. So everything you do right now is on live. I've done this unlisted so people can actually see this. But if it was public, it would be on my channel live, and it's also recorded and save, so you can either download it later. You can publish it or unpublished it later. Just keep it for your records. When you're done, you just click. Stop broadcast toe, add anyone. If you want to do a live stream with another person, just click this invite people button and you get a link or you can add their email addresses right here. So that's the easiest way to do a YouTube live session. If you want to do it this other way, it does take a couple of extra steps. You can use a free software called open broadcast software to set up that encoding and do this dream. But for now, for most people, just using that Google hangouts on air option is just easier. Makes the whole thing a lot more simple to be successful at life streaming. It's best to let people know that you're going to be going live beforehand because, especially if you're starting your YouTube channel, not many people are going to be notified that you are live currently, when you do do a live session, people are actually emailed. Your subscribers are e mailed when you go alive, which is awesome. I doubt they're going to continue to do that because as more people do live video, it would when it makes sense for YouTube to be sending out emails every time you're creating a live stream. But who knows? For now it's an opportunity. But make sure you let your audience know you're going to go live. And if you can come up with a schedule, do a live stream every week, maybe an ask me anything or just a question. Answer for whatever topic your business or brand is on. Get questions from the audience and ask them, Answer them live or just have people submit questions beforehand so that you have things to talk about. Finding Free Music for Your Videos: I quickly want to mention the create tab in your creator studio, which is a great place to find free music that you could use for your videos. Music can improve your videos. It's not always necessary. And finding high quality music can be difficult. As a video editor myself, it's one of my least favorite things to do. But luckily, YouTube has actually put together a nice free music library. Here you have all your music. You can organize and search by genre by mood instrument duration, that kind of thing, but also pay attention toe attribution. Some of the songs have this creative Commons attribution icon right here, which means in your video description, you have to put an attribution for this band in the song for the ones without this creative Commons attribution, which you can click to sort by ones that don't have that. You don't have to do anything, and you could use this song for commercial use or non commercial use. But just pay attention if you are using a song with the attribution required, make sure that you credit them in your description and there's even a video editor. If you want you can take videos that you've uploaded them at them. Right here, you can take a video that perhaps you think is too long that you've uploaded and cut it down. I usually don't use this, but in a pinch. If you need to make a change or add a title or something like that, you can do it within YouTube. So that's a cool option that they have. You can add music to songs, do a little bit of color correction, that kind of thing. Anyways, I just wanted to mention that create taps of your aware that there's a lot of free music that you can use for your videos here. 37. Spy on Competition with Social Blade: If you're curious to see some analytics about other YouTube channels, including their ranking, how fast they're getting subscribers and, potentially, how much they're earning, go over to social blade dot com, where you can search for people's YouTube accounts. You could even see their other social media profiles. So I'm going to search for a new channel that I actually really like. It's called the Soul Global Cycling Network. It's a cycling channel. Tour de France just ended here, and I was super into that. And so here we have the global cycling network. If we click on there, it goes to their profile, and it brings in a lot of data from their channel so you can automatically see the up loads , the subscribers that they have, the number of video views where they're at, and it gives you a great I wouldn't pay too much attention to the grade because I don't really know exactly how they do that grade. Some channels that I feel like are doing really well have a lower grade than others. But what I do like seeing is the subscriber rank. So this channel is in the top 4000 channels on YouTube, which is awesome video view rank. Hopefully, this is about the same as the subscriber rank. You see the number of use in the last 30 days and the increase in subscribers for the last 30 days, which I really think is interesting and then ultimately down here, this is what I really like is the monthly earnings. So they give you this giant range, and they also give you the yearly earnings. But the monthly earnings are between 3000 or so and 50 almost 53,000. This is a huge range because it depends on how desirable this topic is for advertisers. For example, a channel that has the exact same stats in the underwater basket weaving topic niche probably won't have as much revenue as a cycling channel because cycling stuff is expensive . So I imagine that they make a decent amount of money. So who knows exactly how much they make per month? But this is a good range, and the reason why I know that is if I go to video school online, my channel, I know what my starts are, and I can see what they estimate and how much I earn so their estimates are 81 to $1300. I'm actually making around $900 I think I make sort of at the top of my range because I am those videos that are making most the money our personal finance, a very desirable topic. So it's kind of spot on for me where my monthly earnings is right in the middle. I am in the top 75,000 channels according to the number of subscribers. My video view rank is a little bit lower, maybe meaning that more people subscribe. But I'm just not getting as many views, which is interesting. One thing I like is scrolling down to see your daily stats, so this is kind of cool. You can see your daily subscribers and views, but also keep scrolling, see sort of a projection of your channel. And I like going up here and clicking future projections to see what they project my channel will be doing in the future so I can see when I'm going to hit my 100 1000th subscriber they're projecting in a little over a year. I always like to try to beat these stats. Same with the views. And lastly, if you click the similar channels option, you can see other channels that are about the same rink as you. So this is cool just to see what other people are doing, what types of videos they're doing and try toe improve your channel. Make it better than these ones because not that these are the ones you're competing with. They might be in a completely different niche, but they might be doing things that give you an idea for how to improve your channel so that social blade dot com check it out. It's always fun to check out. Don't spend too much time worrying about it. It's better to get back to actually just creating more content and not worrying about the analytics. Because at the end of the day, what I found to be most successful is just creating more and more digital marketing content . 38. Keyword Research: just like when you start a website, a business When you write your own content when you make YouTube videos, you should do some keyword research before not only starting a channel, but when you start to create videos yourself, this will give you great ideas. Four videos to create One of my favorite tools is Google trends. You can just go to trans dot google dot com, and it will take you to this site where you can see the most popular topics, depending on whatever day or time you search for. But for example, the day that I'm recording this on game of Thrones is huge. Trump administration is huge. Health care is huge. Those air big topics. So if you're creating a YouTube channel about just newsworthy things and you want a vlog about something, this would be a great site to go on and just to find topics people are searching for and interested in. You have specific stories that people are interested in here, and this would be a great way if you're creating a news type YouTube channel to find news to talk about. But you can also find trending topics within a specific subject. First, let's go back to my personal finance idea because that's the project I'm going to be working on throughout this section, showing you how to start a YouTube channel. They don't have a personal finance category, but I would say that business is one of the closest categories to that. I can choose a different location, but the United States is probably where most of my target audience won't be. So within the business category, I can see if there are things that might be in people might be interested in in terms of personal finance. Ford Company Income Stock Exchange, Boeing, the's air topics that people are interested in today searching for meaning. If I create a video on this topic, it's likely that people will find it on YouTube because YouTube does give more weight to recent videos. In terms of showing up in search, I can also search for topics. So if I search for personal finance, for example, I can see how popular this topic is, so it gives you the interest over time. I can expand this if I want. If I want to change it from the past 12 months, let's go for the past five years. Personal finance is sort of an always, ever present, popular topic. So I believe personal finances a great topic for YouTube. But if I want to compare this to a different topic, for example, maybe I want to make a YouTube channel based off of a more niche topic, like early retirement, I can actually compare to topics to see. Hey, look at that. Early retirement is super popular compared to just personal finance. A lot of people searching for early retirement. That's actually really surprising to me. I didn't do the search before creating this video, so that's really interesting to see that maybe my personal finance channel, it does a lot of videos about early retirement. All right, so let's take off one of these. Let's remove early retirement. Go back to personal finance because you can also see the trending topics within that sort of field. Let's go back to personal finance in the past 12 months, so here we can actually see specific topics that are related to my search term, and this would give me ideas for types of videos to create related queries. Personal finance loan, car finance, Aiken dive in a little bit deeper, so let's just try something else. So let's go back to early retirement to see if there's specific topics about early retirement that people are interested in. Early retirement age. Social Security retirement calculator, early retirement benefits, these air all topics that if I was creating a YouTube channel on personal finance and early retirement, I should have specific videos about all of these different topics. So when you're starting your YouTube channel, even if you have a great idea of what your business is about and what your customers might want, it's a good idea to go onto Google trends to see another place to go is YouTube itself. Search for Terms, for example. I'm searching personal finance, and actually one of my videos pops up as the third result when someone searches for personal finance, which is awesome. But if I want to find more recent results, more relative event results, I can go to the filter option. I can change, for example, to the past week and then sort by view camp, and this will show me what videos are most popular for the past week. Four ways to get a personal loan with bad credit. Making a personal finance plan Looks like there's this channel about Frugal Friday's using the site called every dollar dot com these air things that I would have to do a little bit more research into to see if I could make a video about them. But this is a good way to see what other people are doing because you don't want to copy them. But if you want to be relevant and be the Finance Channel, people go to you might want to make videos on similar topics. Use it as inspiration. I'm going to search for early retirement again, just going to the past month doing view count. So here the videos that pop up early retirement is not about being lazy, affording an early retirement, the happy philosopher semi retirement and finding happiness. Not only should you use these search features to find keywords for your videos, but also just be aware of what's going on in your topics of subscribed to channels that are related to your topic and see what they're doing again, using them for inspiration. TubeBuddy YouTube Extension: in this tutorial, I'm going to walk you through using Tube Buddy, which is a you tube extension that will save you a lot of time if you go to to buddy dot com, that's where you can sign up and go to the pricing page so you can see the different options. There are three different plans Pro Star and Legend. There's even a free option if you want to just get started and install it and see how it works in this tutorial, I'm going to be using the pro plan, which is the cheapest option, and you can see down below. If you scroll down all the options for each level in this tutorial, we're going to be going over things with the pro plan, such as canned responses and screen templates card templates that those kinds of things. If you scroll down a little bit further, you see that the bulk processing tools are only available in the star plan. Thes bolt processing tools is really where two buddies shines. You can edit multiple videos all at once, so say you want to add a new card or end screen to all of your videos or to one certain type, one playlist of videos. You can do that with the star plan. I had that for a little while, and I did a lot of bulk editing, but I realized that there are many months where I wasn't using any of the book editing tools. The main ones that I use are the card templates, and the can responses to comments. So I actually canceled my star subscription, and now I'm just using the pro. And there's no contract or anything like that so you can actually balance around. You could try the star one. If you want to do a lot of book editing, then when you're done using your book editing, you can actually downgrade to the pro version. Once you sign up, you're going to sign in, so you'll click that my account button. And here's where you want to add your channels. So first in this main area on the home screen, you'll want to click Add Channel and then sign into the Google account that's associated with your YouTube channel. And if you have multiple channels under that one Google account, make sure that you pick the right one on the right. You can connect Facebook and Twitter because with the star plans and above, you can actually publish your YouTube videos straight to your Facebook content. Another way to make things a lot more efficient. You see that some of these things are sort of faded out these air because they are options that are available to me on the pro plan but would be on the star plan. Once you have this all set up, you can do some things here, like on to buddy dot com. If you want to see your health report. This shows like some basic analytics that are a general overview that you have in your analytics, but it's a little easier to see here. Total views. Total subscribers. Total videos You have your engagement. So here's the likes versus dislikes demographics, sort of the same stuff that we saw on the Google or the YouTube analytics. Let's jump over to YouTube so we can really see this in action. And I know I mentioned this before in a previous lesson. Just seeing this little TB sort of button next to certain things on YouTube account. You're not going to see that unless you have to buddy installed. Here I am in my creator studio. So first, let's go over canned responses. This is one of the best ways to quickly respond to comments. So if we go toe down to our community tab, we can see all of our comments. I have a response for people who watch my videos and thank me because I do. A lot of tutorials typically get a handful of people, Thank you, me every day. And so if I click on this, too, Buddy Icon right here have 21 is just a comment, USCIS thinks, and I also include. If you haven't subscribed yet, please do toe help me grow my channel and then you just click reply So I do is just basically scroll down. See the ones that are thinking me. Use that button to input the canned responses. Click Reply. To create a can response, go back to two buddy from your home page. What you'll want to do is click. This can responses, but and down here here you can create a canned response by clicking the add response. Just give a name to it so you know which one it is So here's one that I might send to people asking them to subscribe. May the cameras Monster would just be a little bit shorter and say, Thanks for watching. Please subscribe. Click. Save Now if we go back to my comments and I refresh and I'll find a common that makes sense to respond in that way. Now, if I click the TV button, we see that I have the police subscribe. Comment. Cool. So that's using the canned responses again. Another way to grow your channel faster, because when you're responding to people, especially within the 1st 24 hours of them posting, they're more likely to engage back with you. And if they're more likely to engage back with you, then they're more likely to subscribe, especially if you're asking them to subscribe, which will help you in the long run. Next, let me show you some things that you can do while you upload videos. I'm just going to click upload button. All right, I'm just gonna choose the conclusion video for this entire course just as an example, I'm not going to make it public, so I'm going to change that toe unlisted. So you see that there are a lot more things that come up here with two buddy installed. First, there's this nice little upload defaults button, which is the direct link to your upload defaults. Pretty cool, right? You can just easily create a profile, or you can create a new one. So if you have multiple profiles, say you make two different types of videos you can create multiple profiles Is that when you do upload a video, you can add a new one and shoes between those. This is great if you're doing Siris of videos and one Siri's has the same tags, the same same description, that kind of thing. The other big thing you see over here on the right hand side is this checklist. This is just sort of a really cool checklist that make sure that you're on track, doing all the things that you want to do. If you click on the arrows on the right hand side and give you some tips for completing all of these steps as well, if you scroll down, you see the two buddy tools. This is where you'll find your card templates in your end screen templates. First you're going to have to set up a card template. But let me just show you what happens when I click applied card template. I have a few different templates that I've set up. One is for a free course of mine, where you learn adobe in 30 minutes. Another is for a specific class. So when I put out tutorials about photography, I have the specific card that I'll use. If you want to make some minor adjustments, you can in the title called The Action Teaser Tax or even changing the URL. And then if you have a card already on there, would you probably won't. If you are uploading for the first time, you can check this box to remove any existing cards before applying this template. Once you're happy you click. Apply in this card is automatically applied. This makes it so much more efficient than the other way, which would be once you're done, you have to click on the video because they don't give in you an option of right in this page to add a tag. Then, from this man, you'd have to click edit video, or you can do so through the video manager and then from this video manager page click cards. Then add a card you'd have toe upload everything every time. Now we already have this card preloaded and as a template. This is well worth the $9 a month for me because this saves so much time every time I upload a new video, it's very similar for this and screens so I can click, apply and screen. I have a couple and screens that I've created, so you can just choose the one that you want and then click. Apply here. If you have the star account or higher Utkan, do these post published options, such as scheduling to publish, which is actually just available up here, too. If you want to schedule it, you can also publish straight to Facebook. There is an animated GIF for enemy Jif generator. If you want. That's actually pretty cool. So let's click generate gift and how we have this animated GIF that we've created from our video, which you couldn't do from any of your videos, and you could embed it. You can link to it this way. You post this on your website, put it really anywhere posted automatically to Twitter. From here. There's a couple other options, but only one will talk about is sunsetting videos. For example, if you won't only want a video available for a limited amount of time, you can have sunset the video and have it be deleted or unpublished at a specific date. Say you want to create your first card template or end screen template. What you wanna do is actually click this handy dandy, but in right here, which is available on this video, which takes you directly to the card page for this video. Then you go through, add your card. So let me just add a card for a video. So say I have one of these videos that I think is really popular, so learn Photoshopped light room after effects. So let me click that I'll create a card with that, Then down below, you have this box to check to save this as a template I'll call this adobe video plus free course than it saved. Now let's go to one of my other videos. You can easily apply these templates right within your video manager. So on the drop down the TV drop down, you can click that you can apply template. And I have the adobe video plus free course, which has those two cards from that video so noticed that the template includes all of the cards for that video. It's not just the single card you create, but for that video. So if you only want one card, then create a video, put one card on it, and then save that as a template. Then click apply. It's going to give you the success message if it worked. Now, if I go to this video, play it and there you see it learn adobe, the card pops up, and if we click on there, we have our two cars that we've included. Let me show you how you can bulk edit videos, such as applying a card template. Now it's not going to let me do it because I don't have the star account, but I can basically get to that point before. It doesn't allow me to do it. So from your video manager, click this bulk at it. Button up here here, the different options. So, for example, if you want to book copy and screens, what I'll do is click this copy button. I'll choose one of my end screen templates to say, I'll choose this one or if you have an end screen from a recent video that you created. If you didn't create a template, you can choose down from recent up loads. Then I can click. Continue here. You can choose which parts of the end screen elements you want to use thing. Click continue, and now you get to decide where you want to bulk. Edit them. This first option is you want to publish it to all of your videos, which is awesome so you can add a new end screen. Say you have a new offer or something. You can put it on all your videos, or you can check this box and then choose the most recent number of videos, and you put in the number there. If you have specific videos that you want to put it on, you can add their video I ds here, which you get going to that video and looking at the girl or if you want to add it to a specific play list, what you can do is check that button right there, click down here and picked the playlist that you want to add to. So, for example, my Photoshopped tutorials. Then, once you're happy with the videos, you want to book at it to click Continue. It will bring up this list of videos, and this won't show up if you don't have the star account. But you basically select all of the videos by clicking this all button or none of them and just selecting the specific ones and then click continue and we'll apply whatever template you've chosen to all of these videos at once. This will literally save you hours upon hours, especially if you're doing it for over 2030 videos at a time. No, I'm not affiliated with two buddy, but I highly recommend them. But it's a great tool, especially if you're going to be posting videos every week, which I highly recommend you doing.
