1. Introduction: Hi, you're looking for ideas I know i know My name is Wan Ru Lin. I am an Artist Let me ask you a question because you're in my introduction video and my course title is something related to ideas. So I kind of assume... you maybe have a little bit trouble with ideas? I guess you already search a lot of keywords in Internet, social media like Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, that kind of things. But you feel stocked the stock is not a feeling that you have no idea. It's a feeling that you don't think your idea is good enough. So let me tell you you didn't do anything wrong. It's just probably you have some priority issue, which means you should never put internet and social media as your first priority when you search for the ideas. Instead, I want you put yourself at the first priority. So I guess it's easier said than done. I prepare a system for you. All you have to do is draw yourself and it's like children drawing. It's not very difficult. Through drawing You will see loads of ideas actually related to you. And after that, we will categorise those ideas into different art topics. I need you give me these half an hour. Then me show you how to do this. It's very simple and all you have to prepare is pens and papers. I'm sure by the end of the course, you will be able to churning out unstoppable ideas. Let's see you in the course:) 2. Overview: Hi, hi, thanks for joining. Thanks for joining. That's quick look what are we going to do in this class? First step, I would tell you to acknowledge you are the person who have ideas. And then we will draw yourself. So through drawing, you need to ask yourself questions. And then after that, through different stages, I will help you to find out your topics. And once you have topics, we will talk about how to build up your idea database. So it's pretty much everything. Erm... Talking about why I want to create this course related to idea, which is very simple because when you have no idea, There is no idea... at all you really can't do anything, you can't plan. And I found that is the most worse situation because you really can't do anything... and you probably spent a whole day trying to figure out what you are going to do. So I hope my little technique can help you. And... Let's get started^^ 3. Your Assignment : Hi, In this video we're going to talk about your assignment. So nothing difficult. You just hand in your self portrait, Your self portrait including your ideas and everything. And then the second sheet is your topic or which topic you found. And if you are happy and confidence enough, please upload to the "project gallery" so that I can see and everybody can see. 4. The Ideas Come From You : I guess you want to ask me, Where is the idea coming from? But unfortunately, my answer is not going to change. It's from you! Definitely you! You are the person who experience the world. You can tell a lot of stories. The ideas, definitely coming from your story. There are loads of ideas waiting for you to discover. Let's face the reality. We all like to talk about ourself. If somebody can hit the right topic, ask the right question, we can not stop talking. As an artist, it's much more extreme, You create an artwork You are waiting for somebody come to ask you the right question. Having a good conversation with you. That's not going to happen all the time. Sometimes it's just so quiet. During this quiet time, some artists feel depressed. They think there's nobody wants to listen whatever they are going to say through their artwork. They joined the trendy flow. But who create the trendy flow? The people, the person, the artist, they know what they are talking about. So how can I make my artwork speak whatever I want to speak? You need to put your life and your artwork together. Whatever you do in your life is whatever you are going to do onto your artwork, you can not lie. Because Lie did not last longer. Anyway, you will run out of idea because it's not you. But if that is you, your life is your artwork, it's forever. You can not stop the ideas coming through to your mind. You cannot stop that. Let me share how I manage to speak my voice. I quite often ask myself question. When I ask myself questions, they are topics. And now answer this question by doing the artwork. I kept doing this asking question, answer question, doing artwork. But sometimes when I ask myself the question I couldn't answer. Here is the point. I go to Internet, social media, read a book, see the exhibition. I try to find the answer which suit for me. If they are relevant, I put together I think and then I'll ask a new question to myself. Sometimes I ask question but no one can answer to me. There's no source can answer to me. I arouse the question. I ask my audience to join me, find this question. I present a question, I present my trouble. Now ask me again. Where's the ideal coming from definitely from you. You are the person on this world. You're trying to figure out an answer to your life. You keep searching for the answer. No matter you are an artist or not, you are finding the answer to your life. If you're an artist, perfect, you ask the question, you present the question, you answer the question. You discover the question. There are ideas in your questions. So ask me again and again. The idea is definite from you. Now the problem is you want to learn how do I ask me, myself questions? Let's go to next video. Next video we are going to talk about how to ask yourself questions through drawing. 5. Read Yourself & Draw : In this video and next video, we are going to draw yourself, ask yourself questions and then we drop a little conclusion. Then we're asking question again. And finally, in the end, we will have some topics i need you do few things for me. So first download the course material. You will see this three pictures in the course material i need you download it. And then I need you prepare plenty of white papers. Some colourful pans. The pan you can write, preferable... three colours Now we come back to here. So as you can see now, this person will be you. So you are going to do a self portrait. And I have one rule only, so one rule Every time you draw a feature... you point out... And you make a definition when you make the definitions. So for example, I draw a face. The definition, I'm not going to write down face. I'm going to write down whatever I think about a face should be. So for example, when I look on my face, I think about I'm an Asian, I have yellow skin. Let me look at another example. So I draw eyes. I'm not going to write down eyes. My definition will be something I see. So I see the colour... I see the visual styles So when you do the definition you can put to 2-5, maximum 5. Don't do too much. Okay So the rule is only this. Whenever you draw a feature, you make a definition. Okay, so now you prepare a white paper in front of you, landscape put like this and pick up a pen, a colour pen you draw So I will only demonstrates 3 features for you because we don't have that much of time and pretty much every step is the same. First, I want to draw a face. The rule is when I draw a face, a feature and make a definition. So what will be my definition about a face? As I mentioned, I think I see Asian, see my yellow skin. Second thing I draw my eyes. When I think about my eyes, I think by what I've seen. So I see colour. i see the visual style And then I draw a mouth. When I think about the mouth, I think about talk, when I think about talk ti think about relationship When I think about relationship, I'm thinking about social skill. How many features you want to draw is entirely up to you. There is no limit to it. So that's see. Once you get the definition, then you started to ask question. And then back to the course material. I make a definition as an Asian and yellow. Think about which one. You want to ask questions. You can ask both of them. You can ask only one. So I have no idea about yellow, so I cross it only ask something related to Asian. So I put, how do I feel to be an Asian to experience any trouble? Am I proud to be an Asian? So when you ask question, you don't have to be too serious. You're just randomly ask a question and whatever pop into your mind, just write down. So for example, I draw a nose, I put down air and smell, I cross the smell and I ask: How's the air quality today? It's completing nonsense, but it's fine. You just ask... Try to ask yourself whatever question it will be, right? So the rest question that you just, you just check the course material Maybe I just say one more. So for example, the talk, talk ... i said relationship social skill, but I don't know what to ask about talk. So I ask about relationships and social skill. The first question I ask is, who is the first-person pop into your mind? Am I a social person? What is the social culture that I grew up? Something like that... randomly any question, right, So after you finished those question, I need you pick up another colour pen, so I pick up green. And very quick, very quickly select three to five definition that you want to talk more. So I choose five: Asian, Relationship, My Root, Hometown, Dream. That can be two at the same feature. And then we come to the second stage. Second stage, as you see, I already choose four. So Asian, Relationship, Hometown, Dream. I didn't put My Root . So I think hometown and my root is the same. So I only put hometown. And now look through all your questions which is related to Asian. So, I look through questions. And then I think it's related to Race and Identity. So here, when you put down the words, try to think big. So like race is a big topic, identity is a big topic. Come to relationship, I choose social skill, society, culture, or family psychology. So, when I ask question, I say, who is the first-person? I think about relationship, I think about family. I put family and Am I a social person is related to the social skill and the society. Think about society, I think about culture. And there's something recently I just learned, so, family psychology is a thing. So does the hometown, dream, It's ascent. I choose. And I checked the questions that I ask. And then quickly just write down a very big topic. The topic, the word you put, you think that's big That's not like I can easily to talk. That's all. So after that, pick up another colour. I pick yellow and choose five big words that you'll want to talk about. So I just identity, society, culture, family, history. Quickly select, don't think too much. Then we come to our final stage. So final stage, we need to use whatever you choose to ask new questions. And that's got your next video. Next video, we are going to use the things that you selected and ask new questions, Again! Okay. See you in next video. 6. Let's Find Your Topics: So last video, we just select whichever topic that we are interested into. So. What I need you to do is before the black one is Asian Relationship Hometown, right? This is the definitionS you put on your feature. And then here the yellow part was the big topics we just quickly select, so, Asian and Identity, Relationships, Society, Culture, Family, Hometown, History. We start with relationship, because they are 3. So I'm going to show you how I manage to do it. Relationship, Society 2 words! Relationship and Society make a sentence, and this sentence should be a question. So Relationship and Society... Erm ...What kind of relationship is much more important in my society. Think about my hometown. "Connection" is something very important, okay, connection, good. You answer connection. Okay, now the rule is Relationships, Society, Connection. Make a sentence. It should be a question. Relationships, Society, Connection, Relationships, Society Connection. If you have the connection, right connection in your society, will it affect a lot to your relationship? And then you think Erm ... yes or no. So if your answer is yes or no, then STOP! Make new ... Make new questions again, Relationships, Society, Connection Relationships, Society, Connection Erm... What kind of connection in your society affect your relationship? Ermm or what kind of hidden rules? Hidden rules in your Err What kind of connection.... if you talk about the connection in your society n relationship Is there any.... anything that... Is there anything I need to becareful hmmm There might be some hidden rules. So what kind of hidden rules? Some hidden rules, some taboo. But I found it's a bit dull... I don't want to do it anymore! So you can stop. If you can't ask more question that you are... you think that is interesting, then you go to Culture. So the same Relationship Culture... Ask a question! So what kind of Culture... If I want to build up a relationship in your culture, what is the best way? Oh, food. Taiwanese like to eat hahaha Food! If we go to the restaurant, we have some table manner and... you kind of need to follow it...and... if you really good at table manner ... you know what to do... you might have a very good relationship, for example... Table manner Emmm ... Do I want to talk about Table manner? or something Errr ...kind of STOP! Okay. Then go back. Relationship, Family... Think about Family and Relationship... Family and Relationship... Woo! There's a lot of things that I want to talk. So... What kind of relationship in your family... who ever you think about Let me think about... that... So what kind of relationship in your family is you know I don't want to talk about something too...too negative or something... ok! What kind of trouble you have in your family in your relationship i just mention bad and you said it's complicate... Hmmm Communication okay... You just mentioned communication is kind of a big issue in your family that affects your relationship. Oh! (din din) So now ask question! So Errr... Can you tell me a specific Errr... possible... quite possible answer... which is... highly affect to this relationship in terms of communication. So, I think it's...It's more like... if talking about this I will think about my mom. So I would link to the Feminism in my mom's age, Feminism in my mom's age! (din din din!!) Feminism oild days... Interesting... in terms of old days because... Of course they're they're change quite a bit in my generation. uh.. We, we tried to break this Err this, this old day Old day rules... that culture things... culture rules ... Woman's Position...Woman's Position... (din din din !!!) My parents! It's time...the time, the age, the time the culture is different, different from me. That is the reason why the communication has a little bit... a little bit... Trouble... And that's why I'm thinking to work on it...and Okay, So it's interesting. So now again, Relationship, Family, Communication, Feminism, Woman in the past time Errm,,,,, Ask a question. So in terms about the feminism and woman in the past time, you think it's highly affect to communication in your family and also the relationship but sometimes it's a bit complicated... So I think about Feminism Erm... inevitably I will think about male part so I think about male and female inequality back to my parents time. (din din din!!!) Woman's function, male and female equality, belief, that kind of thing. So I think that's enough. I know what I am going to... then I STOP! So... after you do this... remember! every time you write a word, you need to put into your sentence to ask yourself the question. Once you've done, you have this little map, you can set a timer like I'm going to do this in 30 minutes. I'm going to do this in one hour. And after this one hour or 30 minutes you've done, then you pick up a colour pen So I pick up pink. Quickly select which topic after this whole process, you are interested into, so this are the things I am interested into. Then now you can start put down the things you are interested into on the top. As you can see... Identity, the one I choose, the other one I choose Education, Equality. So, I also ask male and female is equal and not? so you can link family relationship I mentioned Feminism History and Time. And then because you already go through this process... Then you can come back to every single topic and you can make a little note. So for example, Feminism, I more care about woman's function back to the old days and today. And think about history. So I' more care about hometown, politics, identity So that is your little notes. And now you already got your idea and topic. It's much more specific than at the beginning. At the beginning you only see the small topic, a bit more specific but it's too big and then we shrink into a smaller one. and of course you can keep doing... like You can start from here. So maybe you go say Ermm ...History and Time. Do the same thing as here at History and Time. What kind of time in the history I want to ask about. So you keep, using the keyword to form a new question. Keep doing this. Then you will find you yourself actually has a lot of topics can talk. So next video, I'm going to quickly show you when you have this big topic, what you can quickly do... 7. Build Up Idea Database: So what next? The next step is very important. But also, it's a very simple thing to do, and it's also final thing you need to do. Now you get all the topics and what I need you to do is each topic's name. So for example, we have Identity Education Equality. So Identity as a file, education as a file, equality... as a file. Inside of the file, you put all the information that you search from Internet, book, Social Media, Gallery or something you just put in. I myself prefer use Microsoft Word Because for the idea, it pretty much come from books or Internet. And I can easy to link to which book or which page and which website I can go for. So it's for me, you don't have to do exactly the same as I do use the Microsoft Word. You can use something else. The most important thing is you need to categorise in different topics. So you have seven topics then you have seven fires. Of course, you are going to have more because the more you do a research the more you have your idea database So .. pretty much everything right now, you need to create your idea database. and then we go to the final thought 8. Final thought: Hello:) That's the end...So what have we got today? Today at the beginning, I let you 00:00:10.710 --> 00:00:13.020 acknowledge you are the person who has a lot of stories to tell and definitely the ideas come from you. After that, we draw yourself ask a lot of question about yourself and through different stages, you got some topics belong to yourself. And after that, I teach you how to create your own idea database. So now you have a tiny little homework that you need to do is you need to find a lot of information. and fill up your idea database, so I hope this really help you to come out the stage that you don't have any idea. So... Stay tuned... If you really like my courses please follow me, leave the good review. And if you want to see something else other than what I've done in Skill Share, then you can follow me here, right? Yes. And the last one, If you are very satisfied with whatever you've done. Please, please please share it to me. I can give you a comment. So share, share the homework to me Share the assignments to me, okay? Okay. See you next time.
