About This Class

In this class, we're going to be crafting together how to prepare a competitive scholarship application from the beginning to the end (DAAD scholarship as an example). During my journey in preparing applications for scholarships, I did not find a course that focused on all the details of applying for a scholarship. Not only the motivation letter but also all other fundamental steps that certainly make a difference such as the recommendation letters, the CV, and the procedure of the application. This course will be elaborate and supported by an example, which will be applying for one of the most prestigious scholarships worldwide, which is the DAAD scholarship. By the end of this course, you will be able to prepare a competitive scholarship application and be willing to apply properly to the program that fits your desires and existing requirements.

Lesson 1: Find the Right Scholarship Program

In this lesson, the steps of the whole process of applying for scholarships will be illustrated. This includes writing a list of the target scholarship programs, investigating the programs, and reviewing eligibility requirements. After that, we will learn how to understand the DAAD scholarship database and different programs there. In this lesson, the difficulty that many applicants face which is to distinguish these programs and choose the right one to apply will be overcome.

Lesson 2: Find the University Program

In this lesson, we will learn how to select the right scholarship program by refining the selection. Many programs will be reviewed. There are programs that are associated with particular Universitas where no need to find a university. On the other hand, other programs are open for all disciplines and here we will learn how to find the proper University for such programs. Also, the requirements of different programs will be reviewed.

Lesson 3: The Application Documents – CV

In this lesson, we will learn how to write a professional academic CV. Many important tips, that make a difference while the assessment process, will be explained. Also, many points for professional technical writing will be highlighted. Finally, we will see the required CV for the DAAD scholarships.

Lesson 4: The Application Documents – Motivation Letter

In this lesson, we will learn how to write the motivation letter which represents a crucial step in the application process. The structure of the motivation letter will be explained. Then, writing a winning motivation letter will be elaborate in five main steps which are:  Write an outline, write an introduction, expand your outline for your body, conclude your motivation letter, and proofread your motivation letter. This lesson will be supported by an example of a motivation letter that clearly illustrates the mentioned steps.

Lesson 5: The Application Documents – Recommendation Letters

In this lesson, we will learn what elements should be included in strong recommendation letters. We will also learn what questions should be answered in the recommendation letter. Then, we will have a look at what files should be sent to the recommender in order to help him/her write an excellent letter. Finally, a real example of a recommendation letter will be elaborated to make sure how all steps in the lesson should be applied.

Lesson 6: The Application Procedure

In this lesson, we will learn how all prepared documents should be submitted and the different ways of submission in different programs. Applications for the two programs that we have determined in lesson 1 will be explained as practical examples. 1. Introduction: Hello everyone. This course is about writing a winning scholarship application. That scholarships imagine that 70% of university students feel stressed about their finances in the United States. While the majority of students in the developing countries cannot even afford the university expenses. However, those who made that decision to overcome this situation as a great solution for this, which is to apply for a scholarship. Winning a scholarship is one of the best things that can happen to any student at eliminating the financial stress, which means more creativity, good living standards. And on top of that, the travel experience, which is full of lessons, new friends and when their problem memories to make. But how to find the right scholarship program eligible for it, how to prepare a winning application, and how to apply. All these questions need to be answered. And this is the purpose of this course. Welcome to this course. My name is Dima then tipsy. I am a master's graduate of water resources and environment. I was lucky to win three dads scholarships offered by the German Academic Exchange Service. I kept getting a lot of questions on how did I make that and how did I apply. So I decided to make this course my knowledge. And I hope that this could help you achieve this wonderful steps towards your dreams and career goals. Let's have a look at the content of this course. This course is divided into seven main lessons. Lesson one, you will learn how to find the right scholarship program and listened to. You will learn how to find the University program. Listen three, we will talk about the application decrements. And here we will talk about the CV. Listen for, we will talk about the motivation letter. Listen five, we will talk about recommendation letter. And in lesson six, we will start talking about the application procedure. And also in lesson seven, we will complete talking about the application procedure. To learn by doing, we will talk that that scholarship as an example. However, by the end of this course, you will get the skill that enables you understand the system of scholarships and the application procedure. Let's get started. 2. Lesson 1: Find The Right Scholarship Program: Welcome again to the course. In this lesson, you will learn how to find the right scholarship program. Let's get started. There are tens of scholarships programs worldwide that they are the Erasmus chip in ink, Fulbright, and so many other scholarship programs. The requirements and procedures might vary slightly from a scholarship program to another. These differences, for example, could be the level of the language requirements with the application should be submitted to the university or to the scholarship program. The application should be made on line or that their comments must be submitted by post. Another point that should be mentioned is that some of these scholarships include many programs and categories such as the ID. Well, the first step of this section is to go to the scholarship website. In this course, we will take the dads scholarships as an example. But what are the steps to find the right scholarship programs? Well, there are five main steps that can summarize is that the first step is to make a list of some scholarship programs. Tip number two, go to the website for each scholarship. Step number three, investigate they offered program and read the details about it. Step number four, make sure that you are eligible. And finally, start preparing the application. Let's have a look at the they are the database in the Google search engine. We can see the scholarship database. They are added. And this is the website that we should go through. Let's open this database website and this web page we can find all the data scholarship programs. Here. The data offers a 168 scholarship programs. Can we apply for all the scholarship programs? The simple answer is no. We have to refine our selection to find the programs that are suitable for us. In defining your selection. We have keywords or program title are doing, prefer to write anything in this blank. But for the programs for we have graduate, undergraduate, doctoral candidate, PhD student, post-doctoral researcher, and tactility. And my case, I am looking for a master's program. I will choose graduates in the country of origin. I will go to my country and choose it. In my case, I am from Yemen. So I will choose Yemen. In this subject, we can find Medicine, Engineering, Art, mathematics, low language and cultural studies, et cetera. In my case, I will choose engineering. In the intention we have research, teaching, internship, or a study. I prefer to choose a study or just leave it without selection. Finally, and most importantly, pick the debt funding programs only. This selection provides you with the fully funded scholarship programs. Then out a 168 scholarship options. After refining our selection, we can see that we have ten scholarship programs that we can apply for. Now, I can apply for the stem scholarship programs, but not all of them. Because some of these programs are for the PhD students. Because when we select graduates in the program, refining selection, this give us, this provides us with the PhD scholarships and the master scholarships. So we will focus only on the master scholarships. Also, some of these programs are not put all disciplines. So we will investigate more of these programs. For example, let's check this program. Study scholarships, master studies for all academic disciplines. It appears that I can apply for this program because it's for master, which I'm looking for, and it is also for all academic disciplines. We will go through this program later in the application procedure and read everything about it. Let's have a look at the second program, which is research grants, doctoral programs in Germany. It's clear that I'm not suitable for this program because I'm not looking for editorial. What I'm looking for a master program. So I'm not going to apply for this program. The third program is research grants, doctoral degree. Also, this program is not suitable for my case, so I will leave it there. Next program is study scholarships, postgraduate studies in the field of agriculture. This program is specified for the students who are going to do postgraduate studies. And it's also particularly for agriculture, engineering, ethics course study scholarships, postgraduate studies in the field of fine art, design, visual communication, and. This is not suitable in my case, but for those students who are working for certain programs, they can definitely apply for this program. So out of all this page, I have only one program. Let's check the next page. This program is called development related post-graduate courses. Ap OS, postgraduate or master's degree completed in Germany. For graduates from development and newly industrialized countries. It appears that I am suitable for this course looking at the status graduates, country of origin only specified. So maybe I will have to investigate more and read more about discourse. What it is still a potential program for me. Let's have a look at discourse. In this program, there are mainly four icons that provides all information about the program. The opposite view icon provides the essential information about the program. The objectives, who can apply, what can be funded, the duration of the bounding, the value, and the selection criteria. The next icon is for the application requirements. The third icon is for the application procedure. The fourth icon is for the contact time consulting. Looking at the overview, let's see who can apply for this program. Graduates with at least two years of professional experience from the following countries. Here we have a list of eligible countries. That's trick these countries. I will go to Asia where my country is located. And search for my country. We find Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Yemen. Yes, My country is there. So I am eligible for this program. The next thing to check is what can be funded. Here it says in spiritual scholarships exclusively for post-graduate courses in Germany that are listed on their list of post-graduate courses with application deadline. Let us check this list. Here. On this list, we can parent particular programs. So it's not for all disciplines. Let's have a look at these programs. Their intake is every two years. The next intake in 2022. Economic Sciences, Business Administration, political economics, development, cooperation, engineering, and related sciences. In my case, I'm looking for this major, hydro science and engineering. This is a program that I can apply for. Another program is Master of Engineering in energy and environmental management in developing countries, which also I can apply for. In general, we can see that there are a lot of programs in different majors and different fields that so many students from different majors can apply for. And we can find here information about the institution, the language, and most of them are in English. Degree with a masters or a PhD. The duration and the application deadlines for that scholarships or poor self financing. Now let's get back to the database. We sit out in the second beat some programs, Let's trick them. This program is that research fellowship program. It's not suitable for my case because it's for PhD candidates and for post doctoral candidates researchers. Next program, practical training ships. She is also unacceptable for my case. Here we find ray amputation for former scholarship holders of the development related post-graduate courses. Also not relevant. Finally, third countries scholarships for postgraduate studies. Students from Palestine and the ML. This is pretty interesting program. This is particular program for students from Palestine and Yemen, which means higher chances of getting this scholarship because the competition is lower. So let's check this program. This program, we can see that there are five icons, not for icons. I could number five here is submitting an application in green, which was not activated in the previous program. This icon is only activated two or three months before the application deadline. To see you can apply. The program is primarily aimed at highly qualified university graduates, aiming at a university career in their home country. Here the students study either in their home countries or in a third. Country in the same region of their countries. For example, for students who are from Yemen and Palestine, they study usually enjoy them. There are another information that you can read. What can be funded, the duration of the branding, and the value on the selection. Now let's check the application and requirements icon. This is a pretty important place where we can find more requirements and criteria. Example. It says here that applications are opened. Candidates to candidates already holding an excellent or expected to gain an excellent bachelor degree. Primarily in natural science or engineering subject area. He had candidates from Yemen wishing study dentistry must hold a bachelor degree of at least 80 per cent HIV. They specified the required grade. Looking at acquired language skills, it says, good knowledge of English. Toefl, IBT test results with atleast 79. This is international IBT TOEFL or local TOEFL 550. But I also will at least 6.5 that this should have been taken no longer than two years before the time of application. Candidates who wish to apply to a Jordanian university should be a way that they have to take a language test second time. Enjoy them because Jordanian universities do not accept foreign language tests. Yes, I would like to mention in the second, which is the test should have been taken no longer than two years before the time of the application. That in some cases, there is a flexibility a little bit. I mean, if your test was taking longer than two years before the time of the application, you just have to contact the person responsible for this program. And in some cases, there could be a flexibility in that. I am some students who they had the TOEFL test before almost three years and they got scholarships. Maybe the competition itself play its role. Yes. And this is how to find the right scholarship program out, a 186 scholarship programs in the day or the database. I found three programs that I can apply for. And that's how you can find the ride scholarship programs for yourself. Not only in the dad scholarship programs, but also for other scholarship programs such as the attributing, foldRight, the Erasmus, and so on. To sum up, the process of finding the right scholarship program is almost the same. The different scholarship programs. You first go to the website of this scholarship. You read everything about it. You check the program and the university requirements. And finally, you make a list of the potential programs that you will apply for. After that, you can start preparing the application. The next lesson, we are going to talk about finding the university program. Thanks for watching. 3. Lesson 2: Find The University Program: Welcome again to the course. Today's lesson is very interesting. In this lesson, you will learn how to find the University program. Let's first remember what we have taken in the last lesson. We came to a point where we determined three main scholarship programs that are suitable for me in my case. Which are the first program was study scholarships, master studies for all academic disciplines. The second program was developed interrelated post-graduate courses, a POS. And the third one was a third country scholarships for postgraduate studies for students from Palestine and Yemen. Now a good question is how to find a university program that can be funded by this scholarship programs. Will, there are two types of university programs. The first type, the university, the program, will be provided by the scholarship program itself. It will be mentioned in the scholarship programs details. In the second type, the applicant should find the University program by himself. And this usually happens when the scholarship programs is for all academic disciplines. For example, if we go to the program, development related post-graduate courses, a POS, let's have a look at this program. Here we can find in how can apply. Here we can find a list of eligible countries for students who can apply. If we check what can be funded, we compile list of post-graduate courses with application deadlines. Opening this list, we find a list of programs that we can apply for. So here we have specific programs and specific universities that we can apply for. So no need to search for a university program because it's already in the list. And this saves very good time. And this is the first time that I had mentioned. An example for the second type is the program study scholarships, master studies for all academic disciplines. Let's open this program. We have already checked this inflammation in our view icon. How can apply? The other details? In the application requirements? There is no information about the university program. But if we go to the application procedure, it has been written here that liter of admission to a study program. This can be subsequently submitted before the scholarship supported study program begins. If it's not available at the time of application. Hit the applicant should find a university program and apply for it. If he gets a letter of admission from the university, it would be great to attach it with the scholarship application. If it's not pretty By that time, it's okay to submit it later. In general, the applicant should find a university program by himself. Some students, they find a scholarship program and they get to the scholarship. But potentially they do not get a liter of admission and put them in a university. And in these cases, they probably lost scholarships. So if a student or an applicant would like to apply for this kind of programs, it might advice he could find three programs in three universities and start applying for them. The chances height with an admission for one of them. It can be noticed here that there is no list of a university programs. As we find in the first type. Here, the applicant should find a university program by himself. But how to do that? And how to check all the University's programs in Germany. To do this thing, we go to the Google search engine and type. They are the university. We will find International Programs homepage that this represents the International Programs database. Let's open this database. We find here International Programs in Germany. And will we find that there is 287 programs available? You can find your programs by finding the search example. In my case, in the course type, I'm looking for a master's degree. So I will choose it. The course language. I will choose English. Pure German language is perfect and you have Bed-Stuy. You can study in German programs also, the field of study combines many fields. Agriculture, forestry and neutral natural sciences or engineering, language and cultural studies. Mathematics, medicine, sport. So in my case I will choose engineering. And then Suresh. So I got 331 results for my criteria. You remember that I have chosen engineering in general. So it will probably includes electrical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering also. We can also refine the search to get less results. Let's have a look at these programs. For example, here, advanced agriculture from urban design, building construction. I am not interested in this program. This program is advanced computational methods in civil engineering. This is a program for a civil engineering. So I will chip this program. Opening this program, we can find all information about it. In the overview, we can find that the degree is Master of Science. The teaching languages and English language is the language of the program is English. Participants can attend elective subjects taught in German. It's wonderful that you can learn German by taking some elective subjects. The program duration is four semesters. Beginning winter and summer semesters. Deadlines, tuition fees per semester, and you're all here. It's none there is no tuition fees. But even if there is is for this semester's. But even if there is peace, no worries because you are applying for scholarships. So everything will be covered during degree, a double degree program. No, joint program means that you will study in more than one university. The course details, you will see here some important details. For example, the website for the university. You also see example of this study plan. The program, you will study plates and shells, mechanics of materials, structural steel, and finite elements and fluids. And here we find the courses that we are going to study throughout the program, which has pretty interesting. In the eLearning. The course of study can be taken entirely online. Now, Digital Learning and Teaching with you-all's visual learning. So we've got information about the learning, the cost down findings. You can find information about the cost of living. Also here. The cost of shipping approximately €800 per month, which will be covered by these scholarships. We have mentioned that there is no tuition fees per semester. Vitamin C registration includes crucial information that you should read in details. Applicants must have a profound knowledge and following areas. Mathematical, physical basics, mathematics, statistics, mechanics, hydro informatics, hydro mechanics. This is in my case. In your case, you will find at that, subject to that, you should have taken integral bachelor. So these are modules that the applicant should have knowledge about, which probably that he has taken these modules in his patchwork. So before applying, we should check these requirements to make sure that we are eligible for these programs to apply for. Looking at the language requirements, it says that applicants must show proof of a profound level of the English language, at least equivalent to the level of the Common European Framework of Reference for language. The following language tests are accepted as proper English language skills test of English as a foreign language TOEFL internet-based test, IBT, with at least 90 points. One thing that I have noticed and that should be highlighted heat is that there could be a difference between the requirements of the scholarship program and the requirements of the university program. Especially in the language requirements. For example, in the scholarship program they require AT and the TOEFL test. While in the university programs, they require 90 in the TOEFL IBT Test. So the applicant here should make sure that he fulfilled both requirements. And this is how to find a proper university programs. Well, I said just here is that you determined three programs after checking all details about them and then apply to all of them. This increases your chances to get an admission. Also, I suggest that you check the deadlines and the differences between the deadlines of the university programs and the scholarship programs to better manage your time. So after you get their university admission, you attach it with this scholarship application decrements. To summarize, we have two types of scholarship program. The first type, the university program, will be listed in the scholarship programs with page. So the applicants should not find a program by himself. In the second type, it will be for all academic disciplines. And here the applicant must find a university program and get an admission from the university. In the next lesson, I will talk about the application decrements. Thanks for watching. 4. Lesson 3: The Application Documents – CV: Welcome again to the course. This lesson I will talk about the application decrements. Actually, there are three main, the commence for any scholarship, the curriculum vitae or CV, the motivation letter, and the recommendation letters. In today's lesson, we are going to talk about the first decrement, which is the CV. The CV is a decrement that should represent you as the best qualified candidate for a particular position. Either it is a scholarship position or even a job position. There are five main tips for writing a CV for a scholarship. The first step is to focus on recent and relevant experiences. Rule of thumb for academic CV is to focus more on academic experiences are part proportional ones. Because you are now applying for a university position. If you want to include your professional experiences, they should highlight using telescopes. For graduate school, such as self-guided and projects, and a strong work ethic. And do not forgot to list your experiences from most to least Grayson. The second tip is to divide relevant experiences into different categories. For example, your research experience. If you have worked on a research before, your teaching experience, in case you have worked as a teacher assistant at the University, your administrative experience, and also your professional experience. The third tip is that bulleted items should include powerful terms and concrete details. This what makes your CV stands out. For example, instead of writing, I used computer program to keep managing the time of projects. You can say a rise time management, scheduling, and tracking using MS Project Primavera software. Also variety of language terms. I never use the same term many times in the same section. For example, here. And instead of writing conducted three times in these three sentences, you can vectorize the language by writing, conducted, managed, and researched. The fourth step of writing a good CV for a scholarship is to keep good formatting. Good formatting is very important to keep your reader's attention. Quantity. It is essential to good design and readability. Sometimes with disregards, our 0.1, use a sans serif font for headings and serif font for the main body of your text. Point number to use bottled littering for some texts such as section headings, Academy, the reason majors and position titles, point number three, leave some spaces between sections and not to make your CV so crowded. As you can see in the picture below. The final tip for writing a good CV is to revise and proofread your CV not only once but twice. Because typos, grammar errors and spelling mistakes can cause rejection of your application. As this could reflect that you are a candidate who does not have the best attention to details. And finally, it would be a great idea to have a colleague or a friend to review your CV. Talking about the CV template that can be used for scholarships. There are many CV templates that can be used for scholarships. In my case, I have used the European euro past CV because it was required by the dads scholarship program. Either you combine the link on the dad scholarship page or it can be easily found on the Google search engine. It can be downloaded as a Word file that can be easily edited. That is all of today's this. In the next lesson, I will talk about another important document, this scholarship application, which has the motivation letter. Thanks for watching. 5. Lesson 4: The Application Documents – Motivation Letter: Welcome again to the course. This lesson, we are going to talk about the second document, which has the motivation letter. Remember that a well written motivation litter, they present an important key to win a scholarship. But what is the motivation letter? Well, a motivation letter is a document that tells who you are, what are your professional skills, and why do you apply for a scholarship or a course of study? There are five steps to write a motivation letter. First of all, to write an outline. Secondly, write an introduction. Then to expand your outline for your body. After that, to conclude your motivation later. And finally, to proofread your motivation letter. So as we have mentioned, in the first step, we write the outline. In this step, you write some points to be included in the motivation letter and tried to cover the following questions. Who you are, what relevant skills and experiences you have? Why are you interested in this study program? And what future plans do you have? And finally, why did you choose this scholarship program? The most important characteristic for any motivation letter is that it should be unique. It should be original, authentic, and unique about you. It should tell a short story about you and how much you are a good candidate for this scholarship. Also, it should be mentioned that motivation litter has properly a word count limit for some programs. So you should stick to this word counts. From my experience, a good motivation letter should be around the park 100 words. Unless there is something that is very important to be mentioned. There is a word limit or the motivation letter. You should stick to it. Let's take an example of a motivation letter. This will provide you with more insight of how these motivational letters are being written and what paragraphs should be included. Starting with paragraph number one. Here, the applicant provides an introduction and a backstory about himself. It's written here. Growing up in Canada with a lifelong fascinating for candy and geography. I've always been interested in returning to the country. Here's the applicants talk about himself and where does he come from? Let's continue reading. He writes here. Although my family moved to the United States before I entered high school, I have always kept my eyes turned North, especially in recent years, as I began to read journals, articles about research conducted on Jones a bans glass Harris. He's now talking about the beginning of his interest for the program that he is applying for. Looking at the last sentence of this first paragraph, he writes, graduating next semester with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering and a minor in Geographic Information Systems. I am interested in attending the University of albatross for graduate study. This is a great, straightforward sentence that expressed the applicant's interests to apply for this particular program. In paragraph number to the applicant provides details about his academic or technical interests. Let's have a look at the topic sentence. Geographic Information Systems. Gis is appealed specially suited to investigating spatial patterns, modelling diverse scenarios, and overlying spatial data. The applicants provide a strong topic sentence that reflects has the skills and knowledge. And then he continues elaborating on his cows. He says, this semester in my advanced GIS course, spatial data structures and algorithms. I am part of a team developing a temporal database and programmed for tracing historical trading data. Now the applicant provides an evidence to the reader to show how much skills that he had and how much he is engaged in this type of research is also linking these skills to the program that he's applying for. This motivation letter will be read by professors and highly qualified people will read and evaluate these letters. I'm breathing so much details about this technical and mentioning these technical details and skills will definitely leave an impression by the reviewers. Looking at the paragraph number three, here, the applicant is trying to tie his interests into his academy goals. Looking at the topic sentence. He says that my graduate research project, I would like to investigate methods for improving current GIS data models to better incorporate time as a variable in studying climate change. Now the applicant is not talking about his past experiences, but he's now linking these experiences to his academy goals and what he is planning to do with the skeletal, especially in this program. It is a great here if the applicant knows about the methods that he is going to follow by reading some publications. By this, he will leave an impression that he knows exactly what is he going to do during this scholarship program. Paragraph number for the applicants talks about his goals and the objectives through our decided in at very straightforward and simple sentence is writing that my long-term goals are to enter the GIS field as a consultant or to extend my research and earned my PhD at a program of international reputation. Here the applicant has provided his goals in a very specific. He wants to be a GIS consultant and he also wants to do his PhD. The last paragraph is about a conclusion and a polite Tinder. This paragraph, the applicant summarizes his motivation letter, is writing here. In applying to the University of Alberta. I recognize your strength in both computer science and glass eulogy. It is a great idea to provide some information about the university and the scholarship program. You can get this information by visiting their websites to show that you know exactly what you are applying for. That you'll add a personal take care of details and that you are a good fit to this program. The smart sentence that this applicant has added to this paragraph is that he mentioned the recent applications and research that this university is working on. Currently. He says that the recent application of these areas to field research at Ellis Island in Nunavut, Canada is especially appealing to me. This is a wonderful supporting sentence in this paragraph. Let's have a look at the last sentence of this conclusion paragraph with wide deep rotted interest in Canadian geology and recognition of the quality of your university programs. I hope you will give my application every concentration. This is a wonderful sentence. To conclude the last paragraph and the motivation letter. It is simple, straightforward. It includes your request and it shall hope and appreciation. If there are some recommendations that I would suggest to be added to this motivation letter, there will be some sentences about two things. First, they offer Study program. Include some details about the courses it provides which are relevant to your study plants. Secondly, how this color shape represents a great opportunity for you. This will strengthen. Go to motivation letter, but as long as you will not exceed the world's current limits. Finally, proofread your motivation letter. Not once but twice. And it would be a great idea to have a colleague or a friend to appropriate your motivation letter. In the previous lesson, we have talked about the CV. In this lesson we have talked about the motivation letter. And in the next lesson, we are going to talk about the recommendation letters. Thank you for watching and see you in next lesson. 6. Lesson 5: The Application Documents – Recommendation Letters: Welcome again to the course and today's lesson, we will continue talking about preparing the application decrements. In this lesson, we will talk about the recommendation letter. So what is a recommendation letter? Recommendation letter is a detailed third person later about the applicant personal qualities, experiences, and accomplishments. Should write this letter. At least one letter from a past or current professor. And the second litter, either from another professor or from an employer. This is determined by the requirements of the scholarship program that you are applying for. Make sure your recommender nodes, you and your achievements knows the program you are applying for, and have a good impression about you. To tell. The recommendation letter should highlight your academic abilities, researchers, skulls and experiences. They should also reflect your skills and traits using proofs and actual activities. Questions to be answered by the letter. Here I am talking about the recommender. What is your relationship with the student? Why should the graduate faculty listened to your opinion? What makes this a student's special as a skills, qualities and traits. What specifically did the students do to impress you? And lastly, what makes their students qualified for this graduate school or program? So answering these questions probably will provide a well written recommendation letter to make sure of that. You could send your professor a background file, especially if you are not in contact with him in the last period. So what would be a great idea to send the recommended a background information prior that includes your classes. They taught you experiences and activities you participated and your CV research experience, Your enter chips or awards, professional experience, and most importantly, what program you are applying for it. Another important note that should be mentioned here is that you request the recommendation letter at least one month before you need it. The recommendation letter usually is no longer than one page single-spaced to learn things by doing. Let's take the following sample. Here is the headings of the university. Here is the date, the address of the program or the scholarship that you are applying for. The title recommendation letter for a Masters scholarship. You can put more details in this title by adding the name of the program that you are applying for. Now let's read this recommendation letter. Dear Madame, I'm Professor Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Santa Clara University. I'd like to recommend my students. I've met a place on the water resources and environmental management master program at your university. Here in this paragraph, the recommender told the selection committee why they should listen to him. What is the relationship between him and the students? And also, he mentioned his request in a clear way. By writing, I would like to recommend my students. I've met. The second paragraph he wrote, I've met has been an extraordinary students and a fine young man of exemplary character. He has graduated with an overall rating of 80 per cent in the Department of Civil Engineering. Here the recommender started providing some characteristics about the applicant. With regards to the rating. Do not mention it. If it is not one of your strengths. If it is one of your strengths and the rating is high, just mentioned it. If not, do not mention it and focus on the other strand points. Continuing this paragraph he wrote are taught him to subjects sanitary engineering and environmental engineering. But it's awesome status where he distinguished himself as the top students among glad class with more than 200 students in the class. I got to know I've met as a podcast, individuality, hardworking, and quality self-driven, not only to succeed, but to Excel. During the time in which I taught him. He was an activist students and participated in all scientific threats ranked by the university. And here the recommended not only adding qualities of the student, but there must be examples to prove that. For example, a professor, he mentioned that he participated in all scientific Krebs arrived by the university. For instance, a trip was to the central sewage treatment plant. And another one wants to the largest garbage dump in some city. He also wrote a report after each trip reflected so much about his unique way of illustrating issues and suggesting the active recommendations for them. He's honest and hardworking and I believe that he will do well at anything he may set his mind to doing. In the last director, he just concluded this recommendation letter with one sentence. Hirohito. It is a pleasure for me to write this letter. I would fully recommend him for a place on the side through science program and wish him their very best for his studies. This is a sample of a very concise, strong recommendation letter that could be attached with the application recommends for any scholarship. There are another sample of recommendation letters and some programs of scholarships. We do not use the previous sample of recommendation letter, but here the program provides the applicants with a template or a form to be filled in by the recommender. Although the content is almost the same as in the previous sample, except that in this template, it is just like some questions and separate answers. We will add the inflammation of the personal details of the applicant, also the personal details of the professor or the recommender. And then start answering these questions by the recommender. Example, this first question, since, when and what capacity have you known the applicant? So here is a question that was answered in the previous sample of the recommendation letter. And here's the recommender answer the other questions in the same way. It should be highlighted here that all questions need to be fully answered with mentioning the characteristics and also proves examples or activities to prove these characteristics. Not only just writing that the student is distinguished, how he is distinguished by mentioning some skills such as his researcher skills, teaching skills, and other skills that makes this recommendation letter unique and a strong to make the applicant stands out of all the applicants who are applying for such a position. Here we came to the end of preparing the application, the comments. Next lesson, we will talk about the procedure of the application. Thank you for watching. 7. Lesson 6: The Application Procedure - Part 1: Hello again. In the last lesson, we have learned how to palpate the recommendation letter. By preparing the recommendation letters. Now are the comments are ready to be submitted. In today's lesson, we are going to talk about the application submission and the application procedure. Keep in mind that not all scholarship programs have the same application procedures. Even in the data scholarships, each program has different way of submitting. So we have to understand the scholarship program. By the end of this lesson, you should obtain the researcher skeleton that enables you to understand how to apply to any scholarship program. Let's learn by doing and take some examples. Previously, I used the filtration option, the dad scholarship database to find the scholarship programs that are suitable for me in my case, and a fallen three scholarship programs. In your case, you will find your own scholarship programs that are suitable for you based on your search imports. Threes programs that I had found work study programs must set of studies for all academic disciplines. The second one was development related post-graduate course a POS. And the last one was third country scholarships for postgraduate studies for students from Palestine and Yemen. So here I will take these two programs, which are the e pos and the third countries scholarship program. Because both of these programs have different methods. Submit the application. So let's start by the third country scholarship program and let's see how the application he'll be submitted. First, we go to the application procedure because we have already reviewed this scholarship program. We also have to check the application requirements and preparing our decrements. And now we are in the application procedure. Let's read the application procedure. In the application documents it says certifications and translations may be scanned in non certified for them, and upload it to the Data Portal. That's hit the obvious inborn will only request certified copies of this amplitude decrements in paper. Submitted decrements in paper for a grant is awarded. So first, we upload a scan decrements to the Data Portal during the application submission. And then if a grants and scholarships are awarded, you will be asked to submit or to send your original or semi original decrements in paper. Let's check this decrements. Decrements to be uploaded. The Dart portal, online application form or division litter fall curriculum data in tabular form, lists the publications, if applicable, university degree certificate, including final grades, Coby of a school leaving certificate. Here, there is another form, information about your preferred master programs. All university certificates, including explanation of grading system, fulfill or aisles not older than three years. Other decrements which supports your application, such as certificates of employment, placements. German or English translation of decrements submitted in the national language. So we already have prepared most of these decrements. Your university certificates with transcripts, your TOEFL or IELTS. And in supporting the comments with regards to the online application for, we will see later. Here there is this form. Let's check it. This form includes information about your preferred master program here at the university in Jordan. Because this program, as I told you that some programs are not in Germany, but they are in a third country in the region of your country. So here you write the names of the universities that you prefer to study in, the name of the study programs. When does the program starts and other information about the program. You get this information by checking the universities. The target country, example, your chick, top three universities in Jordan. And it will select the best tool programs that you prefer to study. And let's continue reading. To be submitted by post. One basin represents from a university teacher with a recent date, signature, their head and a stamp of the university. So this lecture will not be uploaded to the portal. So what will be submitted separately in a closed envelope by post? Another important note is that the access to that protocol generally opens about six weeks before the application deadline. At the latest. Application deadlines are updated at least once a year. In most cases, they are in the same period as the previous year. You can find the current date here. Here's the application deadline, which is 31 August 2021, and this state is updated every year. And here is the application of rotation. The address that you will send your recommendation letter to. Here, it says, please note, your application is only valid if you submitted all the required elements to that portal on-time. Put us off putting get a princess by post. It postmarked date serves as proof that they have been dispatched on time. So a few recommendation letter will not be submitted on time. Your application will be considered incomplete. And complete applications cannot be considered. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their application are complete. Last note, the application decrements remain with their ID. Data relating to the applicants is saved by the day or the accordance with the Federal Data Protection Act. This is just a note for the data privacy. Let's go now to submitting an application. Here. General information on the application via the portal. You can access to the data portal by clicking application portal at the end of this page. Now let's see, still close, but I will show you how to go to the via the portal. This is what you have to do. First, we just start in the Data Portal. So how to get to the portal? Just go to the Google search engine and search for that portal sign-in. So it'll be in my case, I have already have an account, so it will open. But in your case, you will have to sign up this file registration of edad user account. But at personnel pending application, I will not go through this file. You can find it on the internet by searching, by domain. However, you can sign up without this file because the steps are straightforward. And it will only provide your personal email to link it to the DR, the portal in case you forgot your password. So let's complete reading these steps. After registering in the Data Portal. The second step is to request references. The poem, which has to be completed by a referee, has to be generated in the Data Portal in the section request reference. So here we will generate a reference letter with a recommendation letter from the data portal, which is like the second sample that we have taken in there. Listen of their recommendation letter. Make sure that you give this form to your professor and that he answered all the questions. Then you get his signature and the staff of the university, then it should be sent in a closed and flop the address of the scholarship program. Now, let's see how to do this. I will open my dad portal account. We go first to personal funding. Then we go to request for reference for here we have some information that should be fill-in first and information about directory. Here I write the academic title of the referee. For example, professor has firstName and lastName. Here we write the name of the university that he works in. Then we choose here the funding program that we are applying for. Here we find a lot of that programs. We choose here the program that we are applying for. If you cannot find the name of the program that you are applying for. This means that it is still closed and it's not and it is not open yet. And this is in my case here, because the third country program is not open yet. So I will choose here just for example, this program, Sadie scholarship, master studies for all academic disciplines. Here we choose the country of residence. In my case Yemen. In the target country, Germany. Based on the program you are applying for, the desired funding period. Here we determine the expected beginning and the end of the program that you are going to apply for based on the university program. Then we choose the subject area. And the subject. Now I choose check entries. Check was successful. You can now create the poll. Now I choose Create reference for. The Pi will be provided either in English or in German. So I'll give it to my professor and English. So let's have a look at this recommendation letter that I showed you last time. It includes SAP had questions that should be answered by the recommender. And do not forgot place and date. And the cyclotron stump here how the recommendation letter for can be created. Now let's get back to complete the application steps. So we've finished step number two. Reference. Now is tip number three, applying online in the Data Portal. So how to apply in the Data Portal? Here there is a link, read notes, and applying in the portal. This is long PDF file that clarifies how to submit the application. While submitting an application is not a complicated procedure. So we first select the pending program. After selecting the program, in submitting the application, we will be told to go to the data portal. That portal, we go to personal funding, then application. And the application. We choose the funding program name. You choose the country of residence, the target country, and your status at the time of starting this scholarship. Because I am applying for a master, I will choose graduates. Then we press Continue. Now, you wouldn't go to application for it. I'm from here. We can download the application for that we have mentioned previously. To fill it in. Here, step number one, download the forum and fill in the required information. It's tipping number to upload the forum. Tip number three, the form is it checked automatically by the system? If there is any mistake or any missing information, you will be notified that you can fix it. These are the steps in details. But to make long story short, you'll fill in the forum and then you upload it. And if there is missing conformation will find these nodes will be an autopilot as it appears on the screen. For example, here in question one, please get an all mandatory fields. It also we have missing information in question number five. Now, you return to the previous step. You'll fill in the missing information in the application for the new upload detected. After uploading the application successfully. You will go to the next step, which is to upload the attachments. Here you will find in add the comments attachment type. You will select one by one. And then every time we selected the comments, you upload the file of this decrement, a new name it example, in the attached type, you choose curriculum vitae, the selected file, you uploaded the curriculum beta, and then you write the name of this decrement, which is curriculum beta. And you do this for all other elements. Here on the right you can find all the mandatory attachments. This program is probably for a Ph.D. students. That's why we find the times casual and steady projects. So after uploading the documents, you will find this note that the comment was successfully, the decrement was added successfully. After adding all the elements, you will find them on this list. I'm from here, you can make adjustments for these departments. For example, to remove a document or to change the name of either comments. After adding all the elements, you will find them like this. With data file names. And thrown here also, you can download these files to make sure that they have been uploaded. Then we go to the application requirements. I knew check, I agree to comply with the application requirements and also the privacy protection. Then we finally send the documents. After sending the commands, you will receive an email that you have submitted an application to the dad scholarships. You can also review your application by downloading the application that you have already submitted just to make sure that you did not miss any file. We finished now, the first type of application submission, this is step number three, applying online and that portal, we don't know that the completed we download it and completed the online application form. You prepay the application deployments if necessary, translate decrements. Unless they are already in German or English, can pick up the comments except references, upload all completed application form and the other application they commenced to the portal and PDF format. And finally submit the uploaded application documents online. So we have done all that. Step number four, sending application decrements by post. The only document that we will send it by post. As we have mentioned earlier, is the reference letter or the recommendation letter and the unopened envelope, the application location. So this is the last step of applying to this program. In the next lesson, we will check the other program. Thanks for watching. 8. Lesson 7: The Application Procedure - Part 2: Hello again. In today's lesson, I will continue with talking about with the application procedure. And I will provide another example. Let us check the other program, which is the EPA or as program. This is the a Plus program. Let's have a look at the application procedure. Hated the application, the comments. It says, applications are only to be sent the respective course directly. This is a very important note. And I noticed that a lot of applicants make this mistake. They send their applications to the main office in born in Germany. And instead of sending their applications to the universities and to the respective courses directly, please do refer to their respective websites for the application procedure. So here you go directly to the university or the course website and also to check the application deadline and then recommends to be submitted applications sent today that will not be able to add it to the respective course or university. In this program, a POS, you can apply up to three courses. I specifically chose this program as an example because it's open for all students from all over the world. So you can apply up to three programs to increase your chances. Now let's have a look at the application decrements for this program. Starting by, sign that application form with the current date. So when you start submitting the application, you will download this application the same way that we have done in the sample. And do not forget to sign this phone number to personally signed TV, personally signed letter of motivation with reference to current occupation and the choice of postgraduate program. Two pages, maximum width, current date, important when applying for more than one post-graduate course. Maximum three courses. You have to submit one motivation letter explaining why you are applying for these specific courses and why you chose that periodicity letter of recommendation from your current employer. The letter must have letterhead, assign it. An official stamp, must be of current date. So here you do not download for the letter. So what would be normal letter from the employer? Certificates of unemployment from the employer that prove a minimum of two years of relevant working experience because this is one of the requirements of this scholarship program. The next document is the probe of the language skills, either the TOEFL or the aisles. Copies of academic degrees, copies of the Academy transcripts. Applicants from the People's Republic of China are asked to submit an APS certificate with their application deployments. Note, some courses may require additional documents. For detail information. Please see the relevant course description in the brochure and on the respective websites. As I have told you that some of these programs may require an additional document other than this decrement. So you will also have to go to the university program and to make sure that there is no any additional documents that should be submitted, let's continue reading. The complete application has to be submitted in English or German to be considered. Complete application cannot be considered. Applying to more than one course. Please list courses in order of priority in the data. Application forms. Do not change these periodicities in the respective application. When applying for more than one post-graduate course, maximum three courses. You have to submit one motivation letter explaining while you are applying for these specific courses and why you chose this periodicity, the application deadline, depending on the chosen study program. Please check scholarship brochure or the website of your choosing study program. What do they mean by the shore or the website of your chosen study program? Let me show you this. Here in the overview. We can see this list of post-graduate courses with application deadline. This is the list of the post-graduate courses. And you combine hit the application deadlines that scholarship. And for each course, for example, in this course, hydro science and engineering and institutions TO address them, English master, 24 months. And this is the deadline. If I want to read more information about the documents required for this program. I was just searched for this name, hydro science and engineering TO address them. So we will go directly to the outside of the university. And did we find all information? So let's get back to the application procedure. The application location applied directly to the chosen study program. Application and selection procedure. Step one, you send your complete application directly to the according post-graduate course. Stick to a selection committee, suggest potential candidates for that scholarship. Step three, suggested to candidates will be conducted by the DAT to upload their complete applications to the Data Portal. So when you will be considered for this scholarship, you will be conducted by Amy to upload all your documents to the that portal. Step number four, the selection process will be finalized and suggested candidates will be informed accordingly. So here in this program, it's not the same as the previous program where you will apply online in that portal. Here you will prepare all your documents and send them by post to the university program that you are applying, then you will be considered for a scholarship that will contact you to upload the recommends to the portal. So this is the difference between the two programs. But the most important thing is that you understand the programs by reading everything about it, the application procedure, and just follow it. Here are some notes that he should consider before you submit your application. Make sure you have read all information about submitting the application. Here's the steps mentioned in the scholarship program. Attach any certificates, professional experience, training, or voluntary. Even if not required. Apply early. As soon as you apply, the higher the chances you have. Anything in the application procedure is unclear. Just contact the person in charge of the program. They will be happy to help. That's the end of the last lesson. Thanks for watching. 9. Conclusion: Now we come to the end of this course where we went through all the steps and stages to understand and apply for scholarships. Starting from finding the right program, finding the university program, I'm preparing the application decrements. In preparing the application decrements, we have learned how to prepay the CV, the motivation letter, and the recommendation letters.
