2. Topic: "Lifetime" [Conversational English Expressions] (Mar 26, 2024): Hello and welcome back to our weekly conversational
English lessons. I'm Andrew. Today, we're diving into a timeless
topic. Lifetime. We'll explore common
expressions that revolve around this theme and weave them into practical,
everyday dialogues. Grab a notebook and let's embark on this
journey together. First, let's familiarize
ourselves with some pivotal expressions
that celebrate, reflect, and navigate the
concept of a lifetime. Once in a lifetime, this refers to a unique
or rare experience. Lifetime achievement, a significant
accomplishment that took a lifetime to achieve life. Too short, a reminder
to enjoy life and not waste time making memories
to last a lifetime. Creating experiences that
will be remembered forever. The opportunity of a lifetime. This is a rare chance
that shouldn't be missed. You don't want to
miss this chance. A friend for life. Someone who will be your friend forever. Living the life of my dreams. Achieving one's most
desired lifestyle in the prime of life, at the best stage of life, often in terms of
health and vigor. Expressions like
once in a lifetime, lifetime achievement
and life's too short, enrich our conversations. Allowing us to share profound experiences
and advice with others. Whether it's about seizing
the opportunity of a lifetime or cherishing
a friend for life. These phrases add depth to
our stories and connections. Now let's see these expressions come to life in dialogues. Pay close attention to how each phrase is naturally
woven into the conversation. I encourage you after watching each dialogue
to positive video, repeat after me and say
the expressions out loud. It's a fantastic way to practice your pronunciation
and fluency dialogue, Number one, discussing
an upcoming trip. Are you excited about your trip to the Amazon? Absolutely. It's a once in a
lifetime opportunity. I can't wait to explore
the rainforest. You're going to have
stories to tell for years. Making memories to
last a lifetime. Huh, exactly. I plan to soak up every moment. All right, Dialogue number two, reflecting on a career. Congratulations on
your retirement. How does it feel? Thank you. It feels surreal. Looking back, it's been a journey of lifetime
achievements. Your dedication truly paid off. What's next for you? I believe life too short to sit back. I'm planning to start traveling and living the
life of my dreams. Dialogue number three at
a high school reunion. Can you believe It's been 20
years since we graduated. It's incredible. Feels like
we were in the prime of life. Just yesterday. We've had
our share of ups and downs, but I wouldn't change a thing. These are the
moments that give us the opportunity of a lifetime to grow absolutely through it all. We've remained friends for life. Here's many more
years of friendships. Dialogue number four,
offering advice. I've been offered
a job overseas, but I'm hesitant to take it. Why the hesitation? This sounds like the
opportunity of a lifetime. I'm just worried about
leaving everything behind. I understand, but
remember life too short. This could be your chance to live the life of your dreams. I'll be a friend for life
no matter where you are. Impressive, isn't it? Now let's talk about
how you can incorporate these expressions into your
daily English conversations. It's not just about
memorization, it's about understanding
the essence and appropriately
using them in context. For example, when someone shares a unique
experience with you, express your
enthusiasm by saying, that sounds like a once
in a lifetime experience. Or when you're encouraging a
friend to take a bold step, remind them life's too
short to have regrets. Here's a little
challenge for you. Think of a moment in your life that felt like a
lifetime achievement, or perhaps an opportunity of a lifetime that came your way. How did it impact you? Try to describe this experience using the expressions
we've discussed today. And don't forget to check out the worksheet provided
below this video. It has all the expressions and dialogues written down
for you to review. That my friends wraps up our lesson on the
theme of lifetime. Remember, the beauty of language learning lies in expressing ourselves authentically
and connecting with others on a deeper level. I encourage you to practice
these expressions, make them your own, and watch how they enrich
your conversations. Be sure to watch
the dialogue parts of this video multiple times. Repeat the lines after me, say them out loud. And use the worksheet to
deepen your understanding. Until next time, keep
exploring, keep learning. And keep sharing your incredible lifetime
stories. Goodbye for now.
3. Topic: "Athletes" [Conversational English Expressions] (Apr 2, 2024): Hello, welcome back to our weekly English
conversation lessons. Okay, we're diving into the
world of athletes in sports. Exploring common expressions
that will not only boost your English fluency but also help you talk about
sports like a pro. In today's lesson, we'll cover
phrases like in top form, break a record and
go the extra mile. Expressions that are not
just limited to sports, but can also apply to our daily
efforts and achievements. Let's get started with today's
expressions in top form. This refers to an athlete
performing at their best break, a record to surpass a previously set
performance standard, go the extra mile, putting in more effort than
is expected or required. A game changer, something or
someone that significantly affects the outcome
on a winning streak, winning multiple
times in succession, underdog a competitor thought to have little
chance of winning, hit the ground running to
start something and proceed at a fast pace with great
enthusiasm level. Playing field, a situation
where everyone has the same opportunities out of the park to do something
exceptionally well. A tough act to follow
someone so good that it is difficult for anyone coming
after to equal or surpass. All right, let's kick off with some dialogues that use these expressions in
natural conversations. Pay close attention to how these phrases bring vibrancy to discussions about athletes, sporting events,
and personal goals. Dialogue number one,
discussing a recent game. Did you see a Serena's
match yesterday? She was in top form. Absolutely. She practically
knocked it out of the park. I think she is on a
winning streak now. Yeah, it's her third
consecutive win. She's really going the
extra mile this season. Her performance sets a level playing field
for the newcomers. Dialogue number two, reflecting
on an athlete's career. I heard Bolt is retiring soon. That's right, he's
a tough act to follow with all those
accuracies broken. Exactly. His ability
to hit the ground running in every race
was just phenomenal. He was a real game
changer for athletics. Dialogue number three, talking
about an upcoming match. Are you excited about
the finals tonight? Definitely, I'm rooting
for the underdog. It's always inspiring to see a surprise turn around. Me too. It's a testament
to the idea that hard work can break a
record, not just talent. Absolutely. It's all about who's willing to
go the extra mile. Dialogue number four, analyzing
a team's performance. The Warriors have really turned things
around this season. Yeah, their new coach
must be a game changer. They've hit the ground
running since he took over with their current
winning streak. They're no longer the underdogs, but the playoffs will
be the real test. It's not always a level
playing field there. Dialogue number five, discussing
personal fitness goals. I'm aiming to run my
first marathon this year. That's ambitious. You're really going the extra mile
with your training. I have to, if I want
to be in top form, maybe I won't break a record, but I'll be proud to finish
with your determination. You will get out of the park. Just remember, it's a
marathon, not a sprint. Okay? Now I encourage you to rewatch these dialogue parts. Listen carefully and
then pause the video. It's your turn to repeat after me and say these
expressions out loud. Practice makes
perfect, and this is a fantastic way to enhance your pronunciation and fluency. Don't forget, we've
prepared a worksheet that includes all the expressions and dialogues we've discussed today. It's a great resource for
review and further practice. Make sure to download it and refer to it as you
practice speaking. You'll find it incredibly
helpful in making these expressions a part of
your every day vocabulary. Our journey through
the language of sports and athleticism doesn't
have to end here. Incorporate these expressions
into your conversations. Whether you're discussing
a recent game, reflecting on an
athlete's career, or even talking about
your fitness goals, these phrases will add depth and clarity to
your discussions. Well, thank you
for joining me in today's lesson on sports
related expressions. Remember, the goal is
to learn and then apply these expressions in as many real life
situations as you can. Keep practicing, keep speaking, and I'll see you in
our next lesson. Till then, keep
pushing yourself to go the extra mile in your English learning
journey. Goodbye for now.
4. Topic: "Family" [Conversational English Expressions] (Apr 9, 2024): Welcome back to our weekly conversational
English lessons, where we dive into the most common and
natural expressions used in everyday conversations. Today we're exploring
the topic of family. A theme that resonates with everyone no matter
where you're from. Let's kick things off with our first expression
runs in the family. This phrase is used to say
that a particular quality, talent, or disease is common
among family members. For example, artistic talent
really runs in their family. Both parents and
all the children are incredibly talented. Next up, the apple doesn't
fall far from the tree. This implies that
children are very much like their parents
in terms of behavior, interests, or ways of thinking. It's like saying, you can tell his father's son always fixing
things around the house, The apple doesn't fall
far from the tree. Moving on, we have family ties, which refers to the
special connections and bonds between
family members. Think about it when you say, no matter how far apart we are, our family ties keep
us close at heart. Like two peas in a pod is
another fun expression. It's used when two
family members are very similar or close, such as my grandma and I
are like two peas in a pod. Especially when it comes
to our love for gardening. Then there's black sheep of
the family which refers to a family member
who is considered a disgrace or is very
different from the rest. An example could be being the only artist in a
family of doctors. I've always felt like The black sheep family feud describes a prolonged
and bitter quarrel or dispute within a family. The family feud over the will has been
going on for too long. It's time for reconciliation. Our next expression is blood
is thicker than water. This suggests that
family relationships are stronger and more
important than any other. We've had our differences. But blood is thicker than water, we always come back together. Lastly, a house is not a home, implies that a loving family
makes a place a home, not just the physical structure. After my family visited
my new apartment, it finally felt like a home. A house is not a home
without the people you love. Now let's listen to
some dialogues and see how these expressions come
alive in conversations. Dialogue number one,
talking about similarities. You and your brother are
like two peas in a pod, always together and interested
in the same things. Yeah, everyone says the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We both got our dad's
love for Music. Dialogue number two,
discussing family traits. I heard your sister won
another art competition. Art really runs in the
family, doesn't it? Sure does. My grandma
was a painter too. We all seem to have inherited
her artistic talents. Dialogue number three on
family disagreements. I can't believe how long the family feud over the
inheritance has gone on. I know it's been years, but at the end of the day, blood is thicker than water. I hope we can resolve it soon. Dialogue number four, talking
about family support. Moving to a new city has been tough without my family nearby. I get that there's nothing like family ties to make you feel
supported and grounded. A house is not a home
without the family. Dialogue number five,
discussing being different. I've always felt like
the black sheep of the family because I pursued a completely
different career path. I think being the black
sheep isn't always bad. It means you're unique and you're following
your own path. All right? I encourage you to watch these
dialogue parts again. Pause the video and repeat
the sentences out loud. Practicing these expressions
will help you sound more natural and fluent
in your conversations. Don't forget to check
out the worksheet which has all the expressions
and dialogues written down. For your review,
it's a great tool to reinforce what
you've learned today. Thank you for joining me in this lesson on
family expressions. I hope these phrases add value to your English
conversations and help you express the complex
and beautiful dynamics of family life. Until next time, keep practicing and see you in our
next lesson. Bye.
