1. Introduction: hi and welcome to the Force, where you will learn everything about editing in Premiere Pro. My name is Eric. I'm a full time filmmaker and an award winning editor doing feature length films and commercials for big brands. In this three hour course, you will learn house Organizer files how to do basic editing, how to apply creative effects and transitions, how to achieve cinematic color correction and cinematic look for your videos. I'll teach you how to work with audio, and finally, I'll show you the best export settings for your videos. 2. Project Organization: Before you start editing any video, you have to organize all your files to keep your project clean. The best way to do it is to create a separate folder for every video that you want to edit . In my case, I have a folder that's called Editing Lesson. And inside that folder I have five sub folders. The first folder I have here is assets. This is where I keep all the pictures and logos I'm gonna use for my video. Then I have audio folder. This is where I keep all the songs, order recordings, voiceovers and so on. Then I have clips. This is where I keep old individual clips that are going to be used to create my video. The next folder I have is Project. This is where a premier project file is going to be saved. So, for example, if I'm editing a video and then I want to continue editing the same video the next day, I can always find the premier project file here. And the last folder I have here is renders. This is where I'm going to export a finished video to
3. Premiere Pro - Interface: Let's open Premiere Pro and have a look at its interface. So I'm just going to click on Premieres Aiken and wait for it to finish loading. Now you see a start screen where you can open your previous projects if you have any. Or you can create a new project by clicking here. New project. Here, you can choose a name for your project and choose its location. So let's name our project editing. And now I'm going to click on Browse to choose its location. So I need to find a folder that I previously created. So I'm going to go to my desktop select editing lesson than select Projects Folder and click on Select folder so that my project is safe in this Project folder. Let's leave the rest of the settings untouched and breasts. Okay, so this is how premieres in their face looks like. Yes, it may seem very complicated, but it's actually not. There are six main windows, so if I select one of the windows, you can see that there is a blue line around the window, which means that this window is selected so the first window we have is program window where you can play back your edit. Then there is a window with different tools that are needed for editing. And here is a project window where you can find all of your project files. There are also different tabs here, like media browser libraries, info and so on. If you click on these two arrows, you can see all of the tops that are in this window that we have a source window where you can preview all of your files. And we also have different taps here, like effect controls, where you can change the scale and position of your clips. Make adjustments to video effects that you apply to your clips and so on. And on the very top. You can change the layout off premier so that it's easier to work with color, graphics, audio and so on, but will come back to it later. You can increase or decrease the size of the windows. You can move them around by dragging, and you can also move the taps inside the windows. If you see that your interface changed too much and you want to reset it, just go to window workspaces and click reset to safely out.
4. Import and Preview: All right, let me show you how to import files in Premiere Pro. The easiest way to import files is by dragging and dropping them inside the project window . So if I go back to my desktop and open Edison glass and folder, then go to clips. I can select all the clips and just dragged them inside the project window, and you can see them here, limit the lead them for now. 5. Creating a Sequence: Now that you know how to import and preview your files, it's time to start the editing process. But first, we need to create a sequence where we can drop all the video and audio files. So this is the timeline window, and you can see that it says no sequences, and right below it says drop media here to create sequence, and this is a very easy way to create it. So if I go to the clips folder, I can just drag and drop one of the clips here on my timeline on a sequence will be created automatically. So now this sequence that you can see here has the same name as the file that we just dropped here, clip one. So if you want to change the name of the sequence, just go to the project window, find the sequence that you've just created is gonna have this little blue I can hear in the corner, right click on it and select rename, and I'm gonna name it editing. So if I change the view off the project window from I can view to list view, you can see the different rate off our editing sequins is the same as all the other clips, and also the resolution is the same. Now, if you need to change the settings of your sequence for some reason, you can just right click on it and select sequence settings. The main things you can change here is the frame rate off your sequence and its resolution . For example, I can make it four k instead of full agency. So I'm just gonna type 3840 and to 160 which is the resolution off four K video, and I'm just going to click. OK, now you can see in the program window that the clip that we have on our timeline is two times smaller than the sequence settings is because we change the resolution off the sequence from full HD to four K, which is two times bigger. So this was the first way. How would you create a sequence? And now I'm gonna show you another way how to do it. Let's delete the sequence that we've just created. So I'm gonna go to the project window, select the sequence and president late on my keyboard. So the second way to create the sequence is to click on this icon here, new item and then choose sequence here you can see different presets. So, for example, I'm gonna go to Ari. 6. Basics of Editing: There are so many things you can do with editing. So let's start with the basics and then we go move on to some more advanced thinks in premier broke to start editing, you have to move your clips to the timeline, and there are two ways how to do it. So let me show. Get the first way. Let's go to Clips folder in the project window analyst. Just Dragon Drop and you clip to the timeline. Now I can make any of the tracks bigger or smaller. For example, if I want to make V to attract number one bigger, I just need to place my mouse between video track number one and two. I need to replace my mouth's on this line here and just drag it up, were down. Or I can just double click on this space right here. And I can do the same with audio tracks. Let me just choose a clip that has some sound. I'm just gonna double click on it. Then I'm going to click this icon here to see audio waves, and I'm going to create in an outpoint to make a selection. Then I'm gonna go back to video preview. By clicking on this, I can hear, and I'm gonna drag the clip to the timeline. Just click anywhere on the frame and drag it to the timeline now, because the clip has sound. I can see audio waves here, so let me just make the audio track bigger by dragging the line and you can see audio waves clearly. Now, also, I can move video and audio separately from the preview window. So let me delete the last clip. I'm just gonna select it and press delete on my keyboard. Now, if I only want to have video from the selected clip on my timeline, I have this little I can hear. That's as drag video only. So if I click on it on drag it to the timeline, you can see that Onley video is moved. So there is no audio on the audio track like before. And if I want to have audio on Lee, we have this little I can hear the second icon that says Jack Audio only. So I'm going to click on it and drag it to the timeline. So now you can see that we've added audio track on our timeline. So basically editing is moving video and audio files around. And of course, I can do it here in the timeline window. So let's add one more clip to the timeline. But before I'm going to select these files and I'm gonna delete them that I'm gonna go to Project Window, select this clip, make a selection and move both video and audio to the timeline by dragging the entire frame to the timeline. So now I have three clips on the timeline. Here is the first clip, the second clip and the 3rd 1 I can move any clip to the right or to the left. I can move them all together if I just like them all like that. And now I can move them all. I can change the order of them. So, for example, I can select the very last clip with feet and make it the very 1st 1 So I'm gonna select it and move it to the left. And now you can see that this clip is in the very beginning off the timeline. Now, let's see what happens if I take this clip, put it on video track number two and then drag it above the clip on video track number one . As you can sell, we can see the video that was on video track number one anymore. Let me just make it smaller on DSM in just a bit. So if I move this clip right here, clip three below clip number two, we're not going to be able to see it as well. And this is because the clip on video track number two is dominating. So everything that's going to be put underneath the clip on video track number two is not going to be visible. If I want to see the clips from video truck number one again, I can just move the clips so that there is nothing above them and I can view them again. Now, let's suppose that you wanted to move clip number three and you accidentally overrode Clip number four like that doesn't mean that the part of the clip that you just overrode is gone now. Well, of course not. This is an editing program. You can do whatever you want to fix that. I'm just gonna move the clip number three to the right to make some room. Then I'm gonna place my mouth to the right side of the clip that I've just over written, and I'm gonna drag it to the right to make the clip longer again. So not only in the preview window you can choose the what part of the video you need, but you can also make your clips longer or shorter in the timeline window. So, for example, if I decide that I don't want the clip number two to be so long, I can just trim it from the right side and make it shorter, or I can trim in from the left side just like that. Now, let me delete the audio here. And if I move clip number four to clip number two, you will see that it snaps to clip number two just like that, as if both clips are magnetic. And this is because we have this snap to enabled here. So it says here, snap in timeline. If I disable it, the clips will no longer snap to each other. I always prefer to have this snap to own because it makes it easier to work with clips. Now let's add some more clips to the timeline. But first, I'm gonna select all of the clips and move them to the very beginning of the timeline. Then I'm gonna go to Project Window and just add some were clips here. Let's suppose that you're afraid to delete or override the clips from video truck number one by accident. So what you can do is you can lock the whole track by clicking on this. I can hear it, says Tuggle, Track lock. As soon as you do it, you won't be able to move, delete or override the clips that are on video track number one and you can lock any track like that. So let me make the window a little bit bigger so he can look video track number two Number three. And you can also lock audio tracks. And the last thing I want to show you in this section is how to disable a track. So right now you can see that we have two clips on video track number two, which means that we can see the clips that are on video track number one. 7. Advanced Editing Techniques: Now let's I've been into some more advanced editing techniques in Premier Pro. All right, let's start with the tools window, which you confined right next to the timeline window right here. If you don't see it, just go to window, find tools and make sure it is selected. Inside the tools window, you can see different tools that can help you edit your videos. So let me drive a couple of videos to the timeline, this one on this one, for example. Then I'm gonna zoom in just a bit, and here is our clips. So by default, you always have the selection to selected. If it's not selected for some reason, just click on it or breast V on your keyboard. So this election to is quite simple. It just lets you move your clips inside the timeline window so you can move your eclipse to the right or left, or you can move them up or down the next. Very important, so we're gonna talk about is the razor tool. So to selected, just click on it or breast C on your keyboard. With the razor tool, you can add cuts to your clips. So now what we have is the beginning of the clip. Then we cut to another shot, and then clip number two continues. You can also get rid of unwanted part of your clips with the razor to. So, for example, if I don't want this clip to be so long and I wanted to end here, one way to make it shorter is by trimming it just like that. Let me undo that with controls. That, and another way to make the clip shorter is to select the razor tool and add a cut right here. Then you can select this part and just deleted by pressing delete on your keyboard. Personally, I never used the razor to like that, because I have a special keyboard shortcut to add cuts to my clips and This is how real professionals work. So let's create a keyboard shortcut to add cuts to our eclipse. Let's go to edit. And here I'm gonna click on keyboard shortcuts now in the search window type and and it and let's change the default shortcut. So just click on Control K and Press s on your keyboard. Zoom in and let's change this shortcut as well. So just click on it and press W on your keyboard and delete the old shortcut. And let's change one more shortcut. Just type zoom out. Analysts changes. And now if I click anywhere on the timeline, for example here, everything beyond this point will be selected. So now we have a bunch of clips on the timeline, and instead of moving every clip individually, I can just select the point on the timeline and everything that is beyond the point is going to be moved. So, for example, I can click here and now this cliff will be moved. Or if I clip here, everything that is beyond this point will be moved. Or if I click for example here, everything apart from the very first clipped will be moved. Now, let me move this one clip closer to the rest of the clips to show you the next to. So if you have a look at the tools window, you will see that some Aikens have this little triangle in the bottom corner, which means that if you click and hold on any of the Aikens with this little triangle, there is going to be a drop down menu. So let's click and hold on tracks I look forward to, and you can see that there is a drop down menu with another to track the like backward to. So let's select. The tracks are like backwards so and see what it does. So this to work the same way as select forward to. But instead of selecting everything that is beyond the point where you click it, select everything that is before the point where you click. So all these clips are selected, and now I can move them. If I want to select older clips, I just need to click here so that old Eclipse are selected, and now I can move all the clips at once. Let's suppose that you only want to move the clips that are on video track number one so which you can do is you can hold shift on your keyboard, then select the clips that are on video truck number one and only these clips will be selected. Or, for example, if you only want to select video without audio, you can hold out on your keyboard and then select video on Lee so the audio is not selected as you can see. Another way to change the speed of your clip is by right clicking on it and selecting speed duration and you can see that a new window opened up here. You can also decrease or increase the speed of your clip. Since my clip was shot in 60 frames per second, I need to slow down to 14% because the timeline is set to 24 frames per second. So here is quick mass for you, 60 frames per second multiplied by 40% and we get 24 frames per second, which is what we need. So let's click. OK, and now you can see that the clip is slow again. Also, if you right click on your clip, select speed duration and then choose reverse speed and then click OK, the clip will go backwards. So have a look. 9. Effects: and now I'm gonna show you how to add different creative effects to your clips. All right, let's go to the been window, and here you will be able to find effect sap. If you don't see, just click on these two arrows here and select effects. And now you can see a list of different things, Bree says. So I'm just gonna click on it and hold it and drag it to my clip, and then I'm going to release it. As you can see, nothing happens. So let's fix that. So right inside the effect control step, we can change the settings off our effects that we apply to the clips. So if I want to blur the clip, I just need to increase the value of blurriness right here and let's edit to around 100. And now you can see that the clip is blurt if you want to delete in effect, you just have to select it in effect control. Stop. Any changes we make are going to affect the clips that are underneath. If I change the temperature, both groups are going to be affected. If I increase the saturation, both clips are going to be affected as well. Let's add two more clips to our timeline and apply that Zeeland orange look to them. So these are the new clips that we've just added and let's make them to you in Orange. I'm just gonna drag the adjustment layer above the new clips, make it longer, then I'm going to select. That's even orange Look from one of the clips, so select the clip. Let's dive into the secrets off how you can achieve so called cinematic effect for your videos. First, we need to understand what the cinematic video means because there are different aspects when it comes to cinematic image lighting, camera settings, movement and goes composition. And so, But today we're going to focus on something special anamorphic lenses and how to fake them in Premiere Pro to make your videos look like real movies. Before we start, let me explain you what an anamorphic lens is and what side effects it has. Basically, all you need to know about anamorphic lenses is that they're often used when filming movies to create a very special look, and the more Finland's is compressed video horizontally.
