1. Intro: Unlocking your creativity with Paper Art: Hey there, I'm Lisa and I'm a self-taught pattern and print designer based in Germany. You fancy making
your own attention grabbing abstract art, very simple and fast and welcome to this
Skillshare class. My creative journey started almost two years ago when I realized how much I miss
working with my hands, but at the same time, it was really hard for me to get a job, a blank sheet of paper. I struggled for a long time
to tap into my creativity for reasons like convection
comparison and postal syndrome. Probably all those reasons that most of us
are familiar with. Paper collage, I have found
a way that is wonderfully playful and free and actually
all my work nowadays, that's what's this isn't the one hand and
q and the other. Because contrary to
the blank canvas, the color paper
motivates me to start. And also I often start without pre-trial
because this process inspires me to letting go of perfection and just experiment
with colors and shapes. Two years later, I have built tesco pattern design
business and continue to be amazed about
the colorful world that paper and scissors
have opened up for me. This playful form of creativity, free of perfection
and full of fun, I wanted to express
with my work and inspire you to print
even more creativity, color, and play into your life. So this has no how-to class, but a Todo class. In this class you will join
me experimenting with fun and colorful paper cutout
galoshes while playing with compositions that carry your
very own personal signature. I promise you will leave
your inner critic behind. Just cover your playful self
and easily tap into history, into these tools
and methods perfect for everyone who wants to
create simple and fast, but at the same time,
attention prepping abstract art that
anyone can create. So if you want to make art, but don't know where to start or to give back and uninspired. And if you're looking
for an everyday object that you're in the right place. Whether you are a designer, illustrator, artist, or chapters covering
your creativity. This class is guaranteed
to be fun for everyone. I'm so excited for you. Let's get started.
2. Your Class Project: Abstract Paper Collage: Hi again. Ready to hear about
the class project? Here we go. Dme Ackerman, one set blade is our brains favorite
way of learning. And for this reason,
I want you to create something
that's simply for fun. Don't be too serious. Here is what we will be doing. Together. We will play with cut-out
shapes and create a bold and colorful
abstract paper cut collage. We want our brain to
rest and just let news. This process is so
much fun and it's a great way to get into a
little cutting practice, playing with composition and experimenting with
color and shapes. You can do this
exercise over and over again with different
results each time. Feel free to experiment
with big and small shapes, round and rough cuts,
color and collage. Because by playing a loud, you will learn what kind
of compositions you like. And slowly you will develop your artistic eye
and your ability to make beautiful compositions that carry a very personal signature. Have fun this calving
your creative center. I'm sure you will realize
that it's been there all along, ready to play.
3. The joy of Paper Collage: Welcome back to this
goo check labs about making your own colorful
and bold abstract class. But why actually
paper cut clashes? Well, for several years I
have dreamed about painting, or more exactly making art
in an unpretentious way without a lot of teary and lessons about how
to do it, right? This is what paper cut
collage are all about. How to make art in an
intuitive and effortless way. Just cut out shapes
from papers arranged in experimental and
playful composition. The paper cut process
in general is wonderfully playful and free
and very easy to step in. There was no planning, no right or wrong, just freedom and play. It's a beautiful way to
unleash your creativity and make art no matter what
your artistic skill levels. Moreover, collage making is a very liberating process
and everyday app Rex's, which celebrates the
joy in expressing yourself and fun and
stimulating ways. And of course not to forget, paper cut collage simply make
your life more colorful. One of my favorite
artist, Henri Matisse, who began at the end of his career making
compositions from cut papers. After some health issues left him confined
to a wheelchair until it's restricted
movement made it too difficult
for him to paint. He began his paper, our journey. Mathias described as
creative process, as drawing with scissors and enjoy it cutting
directly into color. I really relate with
this because for me, a cat with a sister is
so clear, unlike e.g. a, wobbly line with the
pencil that can be corrected again and again. This is it. What makes it very easy for
me to let go of perfection, which hold me back such a
long time from making art. Therefore, it is my
heartfelt desire to share these techniques
with you and to show up a playful and fun way to bring you even closer
to your creativity. The work of Matisse
showed me the world and beautifully colorful
and playful shapes, which is great inspiration for me and maybe for you as well. If you're looking for
more inspiration. I've also linked you to a Pinterest board in the
project description, where you will find lots
of cool shapes and colors. You're feeling sensing now, make your own abstract
as time has come.
4. Simple Supplies: Scissors, Paper and Glue: What I like about paper
art is that you don't get any extra supplies
and paper scissor and a very easy start for everyone with everyday
essentials from home. But if you want to create more
space for experimentation, I have some more tips for you. Starting with the scissors. You could experiment
with big and small ones, as well as round and
pointed scissors. For the papers, you can think about what
you find at home. Use leftover papers
from packaging and medicines or crops, some colored papers from your
favorite local art store. Test different paper
thicknesses and structures, as well as big and small papers. Next, you will need
a background paper or board for your final collage. And here you could
also experiment with big and small ones as well
as colored and blank pages. And of course, last
but not least, a clue, a glue stick or liquid
one is totally up to you. Me personally, I prefer glue stick because
with liquid ones, my art often ends up warped
and bumpy in a pinch. You could also use, of course, a double-sided tape, one
last tip at the end. But what this class
don't cover up this time to bring even
more personality, texture and style within
your abstract collage. You could also think
about crafting your own papers by painting a paper in
one color or colorful, using materials like acrylic, watercolor, gouache, or
anything else you find at home. However, for your final
piece in this class, I would recommend
to keep it simple. Choose a background color and maybe 100 or four colors to make it not too complicated
beyond the beginning, take your time to prepare
your craft space, and I'll see you in
the next lesson.
5. Have fun with Paper Cuts: Hello and welcome back to the Skillshare class about
making your very own abstract. Now the fun part begins and not packing, It's your turn now. Literally shape your collage and there are many
ways of making them. Take a moment, look around you and observe the
colors and shapes. Translate these inspirations
into simple cutouts and see how many shapes you can
sketch from your daily life. To give you some inspirations, I'll follow along
cutting different kinds of shapes and telling
a little bit about it. You can either stay tuned or unmute and engage in your
own creative process, similar to Matisse,
I also prefer drawing with my scissors and
cut directly into color. Most of the time is that without pre-training and
just find out when my hands will lead me
while playing with colors and a
variation of shapes. But of course,
it's totally up to you if you feel more comfortable with predrawn shapes or if you want to cut
directly into paper. But remember, there
really is no wrong shape. There are no roads at
all. Just break free. Round shapes are
definitely one of my favorite ones because
they always makes me happy. And yeah, it's kind of a
meditation practice for me. Cutting circuits from paper. I make angular
shapes rather rally. But I think within a composition
they are quite exciting. And yeah, I like the contrast. To run the shapes
and the combination. I never really do
organic shapes, so it's the first time
for me as well today. But yeah, if you look
at a work of Matisse, was a really big fan and you will find a
lot of organic shapes. I love working with line shapes because
they are so simple, but studying at the same time. And I have created lots of cool and fun patterns
only from paper stripes. I think. I can't deny
my love of flowers. And what I love most about is the diversity I can create and the joyful energy
from paper cut flowers. I also sometimes enjoy cutting
shapes with the cutter. And yeah, feel free to experiment
with the color as well. But it's definitely no
mask for the course. I just wanted to
show the variation of tools you can use
for Catholic shapes. Yeah, and I often really
liked the combination from the cutout shape and the scrap. Last but not least, I would really recommend to keep your papers
lipids as well, because most of the time they're a really fun gradations
coming from papers, snippets. While exploring with
your composition for your final collage. Cutting directly into
color reminds me of the Skype just carving
into stone Henri Matisse. Can you relate to this prompt
lattice points to scrap the payback process?
I definitely can do. I hope you had a lot
of fun cutting shapes on paper and now
it's time to play. See you in the next class.
6. Let's play: Create your Abstract Collage: Why come back? When you're
done with caffeine, your shapes, It's time to play. If you want, you can sort your shapes into
small heaps, e.g. shapes that look
similar to each other, or shapes in the same size, whatever works well for you. Just carefully
arrange your cutouts and then we're ready to play. What I like about collage making is that you can experiment with composition in a very
natural and intuitive way. When you make your
collage paper, you don't have to worry
about composition at all. You are free to arrange
whatever you like. Think about color
relationships and composition in a very
easy and playful way. And remember again,
everything is allowed. Do you prefer the elements
overlap much spacing, a little spacing, fewer larger ones are
several smaller ones. Or maybe the mix of it. Do you prefer a colorful
background or white background? Take your time to
play. Here, e.g. I. Like how these
two shapes overlap and look in relation
to each other. This one is quite
simple, but still fun. And I really loved the color
combination of this one. Very restrained but still striking due to the
monochrome character. For this one here was
probably inspired by the many towers I filled
with my daughter lately. But yeah, I really
like it and things would fit is create as
wall art for kids room. Once you start making
a final collage, you can play with
how the different elements relate to each other. Taking a second, looking at your collage will give you
the possibility to learn. And subconsciously you will take this with you when making
your next collage. This way, your eyes and
signature style will grow in nature while playing around
with your paper cuts, you could ask yourself, is my composition
balance and harmonious, or does it contains
a lot of contrast? How did I use the
different visual elements? Does it make me
happy or excited? Does it touched me, or does it make me boards or
leave me unaffected? When everything is
in the right place, glue it shaped to a
latch, a paper or board. And there it is, your very own bold and colorful abstract
art from cut paper. In the end, it's totally up
to you if you want to frame your artwork and
if you may want to end up with a creative
title for your outfit. Hope this brings you a lot
of chai and energy and we'll remind you of your creativity
whenever you pass by.
7. Final thoughts & thank you: You did it and add love to
see your paper collapses. Please upload your
final piece in the project gallery and
let's inspire each other. Moreover, I would love to
hear from you if you enjoyed this creative process
and what you are able to take away
from this class. So, yeah, please feel free
to leave a comment in the discussion panel and
let's have a chat there. For me in this exercise was the beginning of all the
creative work to come. And I still can't stop
playing with paper cuts. This isn't the one hand
and paper and the other. I found my little happy place in the studio and I'm very
happy that you're passed by. I hope I inspired you to play a little bit more in
your everyday life and you will come back using this creative process
whenever you feel like it. Finally, I would
like to say that I know your time is
limited and valuable. So I want to thank you from the heart for taking
this class with me. I really appreciate you're

creative journey. And I wish you all the best.
