1. The Perfect Profile Picture From Scratch: Social media is
extremely competitive. Sons of creators and brands
competing with you for the same view are
the same flight and the condition
is never ending. You need to stand out. You need to be memorable. You will need to
look professional, which are the exact
results we are hoping to achieve in
this particular clause. This clause, we will take
just an ordinary thing that I shot with bad lighting and do attendance at regular
self into a professional, memorable profile,
big sharp stands out. Lots of craters and social
accounts user profile picture similar to this toil. And it is the one I
always recommend to any young entrepreneur who is excited to start establishing
a name for themselves. Throughout this class,
I will walk you through how to set
up your background. They had to set
up your lighting, how to take the perfect shot. How do you move a
mixture in Photoshop? How to master yourself out, how to create depths and improves the lighting
on your image. Don't worry. If you don't know how
to navigate Photoshop. If you don't have that basically background doors and escalating, this clause will address
all of your problems. That's it. And now it's time for me to take the worst selfie I can take
and turn it into a monster, beast of an account
to grow Firebase.
2. How To Setup Camera, Lighting, Background: In this lesson, we are
going to cover how to setup Your background,
your camera angle, And your lighting so that
you can take the perfect shot, For your
brand's picture. First of all
lets start with. There is no bad background or bad lighting or
bad camera angle. or bad Camera quality even,
all you have to do Is make the best
with what you have and you are
going to solve all of the rest in Photoshop,
for the background, I recommend choosing
a background color that is not your hair
color or your skin color, the green screen background, it will really
help for me to capture all the details I
want to capture. But if you used a messy
background, a background that's the same color as your hair color, it will just be harder for you
to crop out yourself from the picture later on in Photoshop . It won't make the picture look worse, but it will be harder for you to frame out
yourself in Photoshop. Now, where is the camera angle? I would recommend you to
set up the camera on the same eye level of yours
or even a bit higher, that way you can get
the best shot possible. Now how to set up your lighting? I would recommend you
use the lighting you have. Like if you don't have
ring lights or soft boxes, then just use your
room's lighting, setup your shot in the opposite side of the light in your room, that way the light of your room
will reflect off of your face and it will give
you the best shot possible. But if you have ring
lights or soft the boxes, I would recommend you
setting up them, so that you have some soft lighting
all over your face. I wouldn't recommend you making a side more lit than the other one because with
your profile picture, you don't need any
extra complications in the way of your profile picture. Like you want your picture
to be as simple as possible. And some shadows or some not well lit areas
will get in the way of that. And you can even use a
backlight that is behind you so that it helps reflect some light off of your back. So just make sure you
choose a background. that is not the same color as your hair or your skin color. Set up the camera
on the same eye level of yours or even
higher. and make sure. Your face is well
lit room all sides. But overall, if you don't
have the best camera, if you don't have the
best lighting, it doesn't matter, If you have a phone and
some room light you can get a picture that we can work with and make it
your profile picture. And actually this is the picture
I will take for this course. I took just a static picture of myself with the
lighting of my room. Like you can even see some
shadows in the background. And I just used my front camera with my phone and
and took a selfie. I didn't use any green
screens or anything, just the some static white
wall in the back of my room. So don't over obsess over setting up the lighting or the camera angle,
work with what you've got. Now take a couple of pictures depending on your personality, your own liking, and move the one you like the most
over to your desktop. and That's it for this lesson.
3. Create New Project + Background Colors: Now, once you have taken a picture that you
are happy with, and moved it over
to your desktop. Once you launch Photoshop, click on create new or
from the top-left corner, click on file then new. After you do that,
you select, the size of your profile
picture, the resolution I use the most, is 2048x2048 This makes the picture big enough
to capture all details, but also small enough to have a smaller file size for me to upload on
different websites. So from the top right corner, I select pixels
from the list. Then I select
2048x2048 in the width and
the height boxes. After I do that, I
don't change any settings and I
click on create. Now once you are in Photoshop, you will have this
white color screen. We actually need to have
a white background. If you don't, you can go from the right bottom corner and
click on this icon then from the top right. Click
on solid color then, drag it to the
white space and click on okay. After you do that, you
will go down again and click on it again,
and click on gradient. This page is going to show up, click on the gradient color. A gradient is basically
mixing two colors and setting them as a background
for your picture, But we are gonna need to
delete one of those colors, so we are gonna go to the bottom left, click on this color, then click on delete, and we're gonna go to the
bottom right one. And select the
color we want for our background of the profile
picture for this tutorial, I'm just going to choose red. Now, after you do that. You go to the marker above the color you chose
and click on it. Then you change the opacity to
around 40 %. And now we're done. We click on okay, then from the style tab, we click and choose radial. We actually want the
reverse of this effect. So we are going to check the reverse box and now we have the
effect we want. All we gonna do
is just click and drag it down to the bottom of
the screen and we are done. We have successfully
selected the background. color of our
profile picture.
4. Masking Yourself Out From Background: And now all we gonna do
is just drag and drop the profile picture we took and chose* for our project. After you do that,
just rescale it a bit for me to
zoom out and zoom in. I just hold the Alt
key on my keyboard, and the scroll
wheel to zoom in and out. Then I'm just going
to drag and make sure my picture fit in the frame and we are gonna leave it on something like this.
and now we're done. All we have got to do now is just crop ourselves
from the background, then add some effects, adjust the lighting a bit, adjust the sharpness
and make our brand picture
look a bit cleaner*. Now for the masking
to mask yourself out from the background,
The white background which is pressing W on your keyboard. To select the quick selection tool. After you do that
from the top you select, select subject, or
manually select your face, and the rest of your body. But if we pressed on
select subject, it will automatically
detect me in the picture and crop me
out of the picture. But as you can see, this time efficient way, which is using the quick
selection tool with are using select subject or not
or just manually select them, has one single con, That single con is that it
won't detect some of your hair because
it's much harder for you to trim out the hair
from your background. Keep in mind that your brand picture is always
gonna be extremely scaled down when its on different
social media accounts or on your brand. So those small details any of your hair that might
be cut out, all of those small details
wouldn't really matter because your picture will be extremely scaled down. So don't over-obsess if there is some hair
lost in the process of cutting out your picture
from your background. There are lots more ways
for you to trim out perfectly every single piece of your hair. But those will
take like one hour for you to actually accomplish. And as I told you,
most of the time, your picture is going to
be extremely scaled down, So no one is gonna notice the few hair is missing
out from your hair. But let's say you want to go through the one-hour process and
the probably trim out every single piece of your hair, I will leave a link in
the description for a tutorial you can
check to probably mask out every single piece of your hair, from the background. I would recommend using*
the quick selection tool and go with time-efficient
route
After you pressed select subject and
selected yourself, you will find that photoshop made some mistakes and left some parts of you out
If there is a part you want to add, just hold Shift
on your keyboard and drag over
the part you want to add. But if there is a part
you want to remove, don't hold Shift. Just drag over that part. And now we're just gonna
go over the rest of the sides and make sure we
get every thing of the picture. And I think we are done. Now after we have did that, we are gonna click from the bottom right
on the Mask tool. You can see that the picture is starting to come
together quite nicely. Now after we have created a mask for our selection
of our picture, you will find that is not that smooth around
the corners. You will find that there
is a lot of trimming that needs to be done for your
picture to look clean. so the thing I recommend that you do, is that you go to any
of those corners, then click on your mask
then from the top corner. Click on select and mask. You'll find this
window have opened. This window will help you smooth out the
selection of your body. All we need those three bars the smooth bar, the feather bar, the contrast bar I like to set the smooth bar
to over at 5, and select the contrast bar
over at 100%, Then the feather I like to
leave around 16 pixels, you will find just by messing with the feather bar, you can smooth out parts of the selection of your body. But I like to leave it at
around 16 pixels. And you can find
that our selection is much smoother
around the corner. Now after you have done that,
you might find that there is some mistakes that have
been made along the way. The way I like to fix them
is just click on the mask of my picture then
press on B, on our keyboard or select the brush tool from
the left corner. After you have done that
from the bottom left, you can select white for you to add bars to the selection
of your picture, or black to remove bars of the selection
of your picture. And we are just gonna go
through and remove some of the white bars
that had been mistakenly add it to the
selection of our picture. And now after we have done that, you can clearly see
the picture is coming together.
5. Improving The Quality, Sharpness, Lighting : After we have
finished cropping out ourselves from the picture, we can just click
on our picture, not the mask click on our
picture then from the top corner. Click on filter, then click
on camera raw filter. Another way you can do
that is (Shift+Control+A). It will take some time to load. But after we load, we can find our original
picture right here. We can zoom in a
bit more by holding Alt then scrolling
with our scroll wheel. After you do that, you
basically you will find lots of tabs over here. The ones we actually
need are the basic one and the detail one. Let's start with the detail one as
it's the easiest one. After we click on
it, we will find. The sharpening and
noise reduction, I would recommend increasing
the sharpening to the max, that will
make your picture stick-out more
when it's zoomed out in the different
social accounts apps. And the noise reduction, I would recommend
leaving at over at 50.
And that's it for the detail tab. Then we close it and
click on basic, all we're gonna mess with is
those six settings. We will leave exposure
till the end and mess with those settings depending
on our liking, you don't have to
copy my settings. Those settings will
severely differentiate if you have different lighting
or different camera. So just adjust them
to your liking, for me i will increase the
contrast a bit more. Maybe add a bit of highlights, maybe increase the
shadows to make the darker parts stick out more. Maybe increase a bit of the whites, mess around with
the blacks a bit more. Then after we have done that, we are gonna mess
with the exposure to make our picture brighter
and something like this. After we have done, we will find vibrance
and saturation increase them but don't increase
them that much. Just increase them like
a bit to the right. After we have done all of
that, we can click on okay, and you'll notice this is
adjustments made to our picture. Here is a quick before
and after of our picture. You can see it
sticks out way more, but there are a few more
adjustments we can make. We can select our picture, not the mask, the picture
then click on Filter. Then from filter, we can
click on blur gallery. then we click on
iris bruce. Then we try and select only our face in the selection,
something like this, then from the top corner, You will find a slider for your blur. What iris blur
does is basically blurs out the sides of
your picture, that will create some sort of depth of field to make your
picture look nicer, we can leave it at
over three pixels, then we are gonna click on okay, after we've done
that, we are gonna to duplicate our picture. The way to duplicate
your picture, is press on right-click on the picture then click
on duplicate layer. The other way I like to do
that is holding (Control+Alt) then drag in our
picture to the top, and after you drag
it, you will have another layer of
the same picture. Now what we're gonna
do next is add a bit of sharpness
to our picture. It is gonna look a bit weird at first, but stick with me. We will select the
new picture we made. Then we click on normal
and select overlay. After we have done that,
we will select our picture then
from the top corner. We click on filter, then we go down to other. And click on high pass. You can see if we
increase it to the max, it is going to look a bit ugly. But if we decrease
it all the way down, you can find our picture
to look a bit bail. But if we have set it
to around ten pixels, you can find that starting
to pop out more. I like to leave it at 10 pixels, but you can definitely mess with it dependent on your liking. After we have done that, we press on okay. And you can see how
much of a difference it makes a by just hiding
it and add it again, it definitely will help your picture
stick out more.
6. Final Lesson - Creating Depth & Shadows: Now, after you've done that, the final thing you need to do, is add some drop shadow, outer glow,
inner glow on your picture. We are not gonna select the one We just edited to make
it look more sharp. We are gonna go to
the previous one, make sure we
selectin' the image not the layer mask.
Then we would press right-click, and select
blending options. From here, we're gonna
go to the drop shadow. I like to leave all
of them at 30%. The Opacity at 30%
The Spread at 30%
The Size at 30% But you can definitely
mess around with them and find a setting
for your liking. Now after we do that, we go to the outer glow. For this one, I like to
leave the opacity at over 25% and the size
at over 24%, and make the spread all
the way over at 0. But you can also mess around
with your own settings. After you do that, you
can go and click on inner glow. I leave the
opacity at 25%. Then I miss around with the size
to make an effect that looks like there is a
back light behind me. I like to leave it over here
like around at 10 or 9. Then we press on ok, and we are done. We are actually done.
Here is a before and after of our
profile picture. You can see we actually made quite a difference like this picture was
taken on my phone, on this ordinary white
wall with my normal room light. But now let's say you want to change the red color behind you. All you got to do is just click on the gradient we
added in the start. After you click on
it, this tab will open up, click on the
the gradient, then after you click on the marker, choose another color
you might like, maybe like blue, maybe you
want to make it like orange, any color you might want. But after you have done
that, you are done, all you . have got to do now is
just export your picture. You will click on File, you will click on Save As, then you will save it
anywhere you want. Click on Photoshop, save
as type, click on Photoshop, then save it as PNG then press on save, and voila,
you have your image. But other than that,
that's it for this course. If I can take 10 seconds of your time for you to leave
a rating on this course, it will really help Skillshare promote my courses
