1. Introduction to course: Hello, guys. If you want to convert your everyday boring photos like these ones into something stunning and newspaper style like artworks like these ones. You're in right place. I'm your teacher for this course. My name is Suri. I'm a freelance graphic designer from India. My expertise lies in Ado Photoshop, Illustrator, and some tools like Simfy Blender, D, Z Brush, and so on. For this particular course, we are going to use a photoshop, and Photoshop is indeed a powerful tool. Let's have fun, and let's dive in the photoshop and give those nostalgic retro vintage wipes to our old photographs. Let's start. 2. Step 1 Image effect Layers: Here we are going to use three images. By the way. If my speed is fast, you can slow down by changing the speed of this player. Now we're going to use these three images. First one is the pick up Picon. She is one of the leading old actresses of the recent times. Then we're going to use this scratch image, and we're going to use this sm image. Now, let's open this photo inside photoshop. Okay. I have already created this, but we will do it from the sketch, don't worry. So I'm going to get it all these other layers. I'm going to re this. I'm going to the fine tuners, this image effects. I'm going to this text as well. Now we are with this image layer. When you will open this one in the photo shop, it will be named as background. Here you will see a log icon. If you click on this log icon, it will disappear, and you will get this layer layer zero. Let's rename this as the Pa. Now, first thing we're going to do is select this layer, and we're going to duplicate this two times. First one. Then again, we're going to duplicate this one more time. Second one. The first copy of this image, we're going to rename this as post ise. To rename earlier, you can simply double click on the name. It will get highlighted in the blue. You can type the name. Posturize. I renamed this as posturize because we're going to apply the filter posturize here. We're going to apply the cutout effect on this top layer. We're going to rename this as cutout. Cutout. Now we have three layers. Our main email layer, then our posterize and then our cut out. We're going to convert our cut out into smart object. We're going to click here right click here and convert to smart object. Then we are going to while the cutout is selected, we are going to click on this filter, which is in the top, and we will click on filter Callery. Inside filter caller, there is a effect cutout inside the artistic section. Here you can see the artistic and here you can see the cutout. Okay. The cutout is this a Dad. We can see what that effect actually does, okay? We're going to change the blending mode of cut out from normal to overlay. For the posturize, we're going to change the blending mode from normal to soft light. Now we're going to apply the posturize fit here. We're going to select the posture. Let's come to layer, new adjustment layer, and then let's select postures. While before clicking, we're going to click this box. Use previous layer to create clipping mask. We're going to check this box and heat. Nothing changes much. But if we change the blending mode of this posturize effect from normal to hard mix, let's see what happens. To hard mix. Yeah. You can see the punch in the colors. The trade and the yellows. Now, We're going to select the posturize, and b press and holding the shift. Button on the keyboard, click on the cutout, so it will select both layers, cut out and posturiz. Then we are going to press control and G to group them. This group one. Now we're going to select this base layer base image layer, and this group one, we're going to group them again. Control plus G. We're going to rename this ads, image. Effects. Our image effects are reading. Now, this is the first stage of this first stage of applying this newspaper style like effect. We are done with our first stage. Now in second stage, we're going to see how we are going to apply the fine. Let's submit again in the stage two of the cores. 3. Step 2 Adding Finetuners: Aldo is. Now we are in stage two of this course. Now, let's see about how we're going to add the fine tuners. We are ready with our image effers. Now we're going to layer. Click on the layer, which is in the top. New adjustment layer, and we're going to add saturation. L et's hit. Then we're going to add layer, new adjustment layer and black and white. Let's hit and one more layer Lyer, new adjustment layer, and we're going to add brightness or contrast. Brightness, contrast. Then we are going to select all these three layers. Control pen to group them. We are going to rename this as fine tuners. Now, we're going to play a little bit with their blendings. For hue and saturation, we're going to change the blending mode from normal to maybe lighten. Now, for the black and white, we're going to do the same from normal to lighten. For the brightness and contrast, we're going to keep it as it is. Let's add a bit of contrast here. Not too much. 15 inc. Let's bring down the brightness a little bit to -15. In the black and white, we're going to bring down the red a little bit. A bit more and we're going to we are going to change increase the yellows in the black and white section. Sorry. We're going to decrease the yellows like this. Now, we're done here. In the N saturation, we can bring down the red a little bit, saturation of the red a little bit. And the lightness of the radar two -22 as well. Now we are done with a fineness. This was a tiny stage, a tiny stage of achieving this effect. This is all about the fine tess. We are now done with the fine. Now, let's see about how to add the overlay effects for this image. 4. Step 3 Overlay Effects: Now we are in our final stage of achieving this effect, the overlay effects. Now, the overlay effects can be achieved by using the textures like scratch or sm, that I showed you earlier in the first video. This one is scratch. The scratch and this smudge. We're going to use these two to get that overlaffect. Now we're going to drag and drop these two here. Smudge. Let's recycle this to fit in our canvas. Okay. Let's do the same without scratch dragon drop in our canvas and then de size. Now I'm going to group these two effects, these two layers, and group them. I'm going to rename them as overfect. Now, let's expand the overlay group, come to scratch, and we're going to change the blending mode from normal to overlay, overlay effect group, so we're going to change the blending mode to overlay. For as much, we're going to do the same from normal to overlay. Now let's select scratch. Let's go to filter, select pixelate, and then color half tone. The max radius. The max radius is the minimum release of the dots of the half toe. Let me show you. L et's sit here first. Let me show you what is happening. The four rads that we selected is the rads of these dots. Four is the minimum, 127 is the highest. Let me show you that as well. Let's go two maximum rads and change this to 147. Now let's see what happens. The size of the dots gets bigger, but we don't need that bigger. We are going to apply the minimum size that we can get. The minimum we can go down here is four. Maximum ads, we're going to say that four. Let's hit. Now let's select our smug layer, and we're going to apply one more filter called emboss, we're going to find it inside filter, then stylize and then boss. Angle of 34 is good, Hight of three maybe three is good and amount, you can keep it between 425048. Good. Now, this is what we've got. I will increase the size of the half toes a little bit to the seven or maybe eight. Seven is good. Seven is good. Now Now we are done with our over effects as well. Now let's see what actually happens over original image. Let's hid these effects. This was our original image and this is what we got after applying the effect. Here you can see this is a. This is good. Now. This is the effect that we are going after and we achieve this. But this is still not enough. We're going to elevate this one a little bit more. By adding the t in this image. We're going to click on the image effect group. We're going to then click on and we will click here anywhere. And we're going to type a title or name of the character that we're going to use. Let's type this. I'm going to use original name. Da. Then I'm going to press Control. I'm going to recite this to fit the aba. D pia. Okay, this measure is good. So this is good. 5. Step 4 Final Touches: We are in the final stage of achieving our vintage cover art effect. This is pretty good. But we can still elevate this a little bit further and to achieve that. Let's copy our base image layer like this. I will put this on the top of our group one In this group, we have our cut out and our posturize layers, and we are going to place our new copy above this group. Now, first thing we're going to do is convert this into a smart object. After that, we're going to come to the filter to the filter gallery, and we're going to apply the postal edges. In the artistic section. You can find it here postal edges. For this, we're going to keep the thickness at, the intensity of the edge at one and postracion effect at zero. You can go up to one, but I prefer to keep it at zero. Now. Now we are going to change the blending more of this layer to something like pin light here. Now let me show you what actually how it affected our rginal effect. If image was like this, but after applying this this effect of poster age and pin light blending more, this became a drawing. You can see the outline here. That is a good addition or a good improvement toward cover art. 6. Conclusion: Finally, here we are.
