About This Class
This is a Demo done outside and it's for everyone.
You can look through your window, or paint from your car, you can even do a little pencil sketch, the point is to get your eyes and your feelings responding to something that is important in your life.
I sketch all the time and have done so since 1980 when I was studying the French Impressionists. Get to the mountains, the forests, the parks, the alleys, the streets, just get out and get going.
Best advice for me was from Rudy de Reyna, one of my mentors when I was starting out. His advice for Sketching: "Sketch the very first thing you see that remotely interests you. There are no perfect pictures waiting for you somewhere. You make it happen !"
Follow me in this 10-minute Demo and pick up some great 'Painting Tips' especially for thick acrylics.
Here are a few Tips you will get:
1- How to mix your colors on the painting surface and not on your palette.
2- How to use sweet and pure color notes that sing out in your painting.
3- How to get a great outdoor painting with a limited number of colors and time.
4- How to make your mountains soar and stand proud.
5- How to prevent frostbite when painting in very cold weather.
Meet Your Teacher
I've been working as a full-time artist since 1980. I have had the pleasure of teaching art since 1983 and have taught thousands of classes on drawing and painting. I would consider it a privilege to assist you in achieving your artistic goals.
I have taught the basic and advanced mechanics and principles which give us the skill and confidence to express creatively, for the past 30 years. Sharing them is my passion!
What Do I Like Teaching?
Watercolors and Acrylic are my specialty. I work with oils also but not as often as the water based mediums.
I love trees, mountains, rocks, water, flowers, and all that nature has to offer. Getting out into nature always gives me a creative boost. You get the real energy and feeling of space and belonging.See full profile
Hands-on Class Project
Class Deliverable is any sketch you complete that responds to something you feel strongly about or are attracted to. I love the water, sky, and mountains. That is what I sketch.
Below is a watercolor Sketch of Mount Ida in Salmon Arm B.C. Canada. I did the sketch outside and then'decorated" it up in the studio. Monet (French Impressionist) did the same although he would not admit it to his contemporaries. Science has now found out that he worked on his sketches in the studio.
Below is my 'decorated' acrylic sketch from today's class. Get a 10-minute sketch, take it home, and decorate it.
'Tis the Season up here in Canada when we decorate things and bring some excitement and color back into our lives. Join me and start sketching and decorating with your new Painting Tips
Hope you enjoy the Demo, Ron
