1. Introduction: Hello, guys. Welcome to my new class. How posted about seven classes so far here on skill share. But I have always wanted to share an absolute beginner friendly landscape with big no friendly techniques as well. The team in this class revolves around sunset how sunsets looks from different settings. But my main goal is to show you how a landscape is built from beginning to the very end. We'll discuss three techniques in this class which are very important for a big enough one is blending. Dad, there is something called damn brush technique. The last one is adding random trees so we'll incorporate all these techniques in all of this fight class projects were painting today. I can't wait to begin this class, So without further delay, let's begin our class.
2. Art Supplies: So for papers, I'm using Fabbri, an artist, tickle it's 100 person cordon and three energy assim. So I'm not using from the part. I'm using Lou sheets, which are available, which are quite economical. Isar. I got the sheets in tow. If I a six or a four sizes, depending on my requirement. Today, I'm using a six size, and I'm cutting those sheets with my hands. Alternatively, you can use a Qatar, our s'il to cut the shades, but I personally like the lose borders for the paper. So he ago and for the pains I'm using San Elia, there are many colors because off many landscapes were painting. Today, Carlos will be listed individually for each to Dorio, and it's important that you have a white color. It can be gosh are a plain water color. And for the brushes I have used, only four. One is a more brush off size, for it's only for washes. When I say washes, it means a vetting. The paper with clean water on second is number two natural hair brush, and the 3rd 1 is synthetic brush off number to I normally prefer using synthetic brushes when I'm going over the details. It gives me more control in the last 20 is number zero. It is a natural hair brush as well. And I have used this only for splattering off the stars with white wash or right watercolor pain. And of course, I'm asking tape to shoes on the clean water jar as well.
3. Techniques 1 - Damp Brush Technique: Before we start without projects, I thought I'd share with you guys a few off my most use techniques. The 1st 1 would be something called Damn Brush Technique, This technique I used almost every day and in almost all of my paintings. It is quite easy one. Once you have practiced this technique, Nate's tissue paper are an old cloth under more brush in the first step time taking some pain on a wet brush, and I'm putting this paint on a clean paper. Now I'll clean the brush by dipping it into a water jar. This is where the technique comes in. Just take the tissue paper and remove all the water from the brush, making it a damp brush. You can see the excess water here. Now I'll show you how to live the color off off the paper jam fresh. But the main thing I want to show you on this is used in to class projects for today's class as well is to make hard adjust to soft. Just These are the two landscapes that, uh, we're gonna paint with this technique. As you can see, the software just here gives the illusion of shadows as well as the mist in other landscape . But I Teel, if you don't know shadows and missed, is my favorite for day in water. Close on. This is how you can paint it as well. Well, first, see about the hard and soft there. Just so I'm taking indigo, so I will start to pain some lined area. Imagine this is on a lake, so we'll be needing shadow for this. Now the edge is looking hard, so I will take damn brush and I'll self on it. This is called Softening the Edge on By dragging the paint below, you can give it a shadow. Look, this is how I have painted the shadow in this landscape. Now I'll show you how to paint a missed using the same technique that is damn fresh. I'm taking pines create and I'm using number to brush, and I'll start to paint the fines. Now Dip the brush into the water. Remove all the water from it using a tissue paper. Now your brushes damn softened the heart ages and you'll get the mist. Practiced this technique as much as you can and thank you for watching. We'll mourn, but an extra radio
4. Techniques 2 - Blending: let us discuss about blending off colors in watercolor. There are five class projects in this class. This one the windows and set does not have more than one color. So I'm skipping this one since there is no need off blending but reminding class projects all have a blend off to, um, Oculus. I will start with this one. You can see yellow, orange, red, All these colors blended so perfectly here. And I'll show you guys how I'm taking my number. Four more brush and I'm reading the paper with clean water. The landscape started with a local O on the bottom orange and then red and then burnt umber . So I will start with a low. I'm taking a small number brush that is number two on. I'll start with a law. I am taking orange now on. I'll start painting just about their law. Now comes the red. I'm taking a bit off it and I'll apply it about the orange layer. I am taking burnt umber with a mix off red, and I'll apply it about the layer off red. Make sure your paper is 100% cotton so that the blend will be perfect. here now comes. The trick takes a mellow or water the color you have applied at the bottom of the paper and start moving a brush in upward direction. But make sure your strokes are very, very light on. The blend will happen automatically because the paper is 100% quarter. Of course, you'll need a bit of practice to perfect this technique, and that's it on. Once it drives, I relied a few boats. This is called plain blending, and you can use any sort of colors to get this effect whenever the background. This plane that is without clouds. Then you can use this plan. I guess this is it on. All you need is 100% Gordon paper brush. Any synthetic or natural do just fine. So it took about 22 months for me to get this blend, so practice as much as you can. So next to blend is a colorful one with the yellow, orange and purple, but their differences will be adding clouds here. So let's start. So I'm taking my number four more brush and I'll start reading the paper with water. As usual, let's start with the local law from the bottom off the paper. Next color I'll be guarding is orange. Orange is followed by the pink pain, the pink just about the orange. I am taking the purple now and I'll paint it just about the pink. Now we will blend all these colors by taking a brush and just slightly stroking over it. Remember very light strokes. I'll start adding the clouds, take orange color and just draw the rough lines with your brush. We're not painting the realistic clouds here. Just an indication off a cloudy sky. Now about the orange clouds. I will take indigo on all Start adding indigo clouds here because they can be more visible over the purple sky. Very light strokes. I think this is enough. Will start, are in the boat. I am taking pines gray on a synthetic brush with a sharp point toe are birds. The 1st 1 was a plane blend. The 2nd 1 was the plane blend with a bit off clouds here and there. So I hope you understood this technique and please practice. Next we have is burnt umber galaxy sky. Now it may look that it has only two colors. The brick writ on the dark brown, but no, in truth, it has a loan brown lying beneath it. It is important in watercolor toe add layers and layers of colors. It adds to the richness off landscape. Now I'll start with lemon alot, and then I've lied number that is brown color now available in these two colors together, like before, under the both ends off the paper. Now I will add pines gray and I'll keep This were drying, and this is how it looks when it dries. Now I'll start adding the land area. This is not actually necessary while we're talking about blending, but I'm just adding this area just toe let you guys know how it can be done. While we're painting this landscape in the next video, I think I'll stop here. And let's Morton extra how This is quite interesting, because what do you do when two colors, when you blend them together, use you on our color? So I have a trick. Let's see what it is. I will start by waiting the paper with more brush off number four. I actually feel very guilty to show this because this is kind of like cheating. I am taking red color first. There was no red color on my palette, so I'm quickly learning it. Take the Regula and fill half the paper with it. Now another half with pressure in blue. If you don't have pressure in blue, usually you'll have it because it is a basically you can use any blue now only pain. Still, the red color border. Don't mix. Board the colors now taking to go or any dark color darker than that pressure in blue. Now you see that white gap between blue 100. I will cover it up with clouds using indigo color. Now I realize the cloud below that a middle cloud and about that just toe make it realistic . And, of course, so no one could find that cover up. I hope you like this little trick that I use most of the time when I can blend two colas - and that's it. Thank you for watching. Let's more onto the next video
5. Techniques 3 - Random trees: Now we'll discuss something called adding random trees. I have used this technique into off my landscapes. This on on this one. So this is not actually a technique. This is more like a tip, so let's get started. The basic concept off the step is toe Philip the landscape by hiding random trees. Disk use the landscape more of a natural look, So I will let you guys know how toe are these random trees in between your main subject that it's pine trees. So first idea. Pine trees. Another tape here used to paint the pine trees sometimes across are not straight. It's because the nature is random are not uniform. Basically, what I'm saying is create Imus and it gives more natural look now all softened, the said just using damn brush technique. Now I'm taking a synthetic brush, and I'll start adding these random trees in between the pine trees. - No , this is one off the types that you can use or I'll show you another one. I'm taking pressure in blue for this. Now, In this type, the random trees could be any type off the tree. It doesn't have to be pine tree here I'm painting a dry tree with the dried branches a couple of days here and there. Then you get the most natural look for your landscape. I hope you find this small tape helpful. Thank you for watching. We'll move onto the next video.
6. Class Project - Fiery Sunset: like a start with offers landscape First, I will list on all the colors that I have used in this landscape. The 1st 1 would be lemon alot. I'm using the brands and Elia's, but you can use any any brand you wish. And second, I'm using a mix or sent earlier orange and Centralia maroon. It's sort of like a brick Allah and then Bonta member and pines gray and again, you can use any brand you wish. Let us start with the first step that is reading the paper with clean water, and I'm using number four More bruscia and I'm taking your local. Oh, and I'll start playing it to the one by Fourth of the People. And now I'll take orange and the mix of a red, and I will apply it just about the your law. Now I'll try to blend these colors by damn brush technique that we have discussed in previous techniques. Video. When you're using damn bridge techniques, remember the brush will absolve the water as well as the color. Hence you need to apply one more layer off the color, so I'm taking brick red color again, and I am. I playing it one Morelia, and with that I'm also taking bone number on our played on stage of the paper. Now all the colors will be blended all by themselves because off the paper being wet and as well as we have blended them using the number struck me. Now I took a little bit off orange on dread on bone number, and I'll start adding by entries in the background. As you can see, the just off the pine trees are blended well with the background. Have used damn brush technique as well here. Now take lots of pines gray and start adding the foreground basically just consists off only pine trees. Now I understand the previous blending after pine trees in the background is a bit difficult for a beginner, but I can assure you it's easier than it looks, and you only need a couple of tries to get to try it. And even if you fail after that, the northern the problem usually lies in your choice off paper. In case you don't know getting the right paper that is 100% Corton. 300 years, um, assaults most off your watercolor problems and trust me on this. Now I'll continue to draw the pine trees with clients. Create through the entire foreground off the paper. Of course. I'm using the technique off firing random trees here. We had just discussed over this technique before. Painting pine trees is also very easy. Just try a straight line on more your brush in his exact manner. And there you have it. A pine tree. Now I'll take more pines create and I will cover the entire area with it. No, Wherever I see a plane area, I'm just adding a few pine trees. Now I need to add details. So I'm taking a synthetic brush and I'll take pines. Great Anel, Add few Bert in the background. I think this is enough. I'm not all doing the boats here. I hope you enjoyed this simple landscape. And thank you for watching will more into the next video
7. Class Project - Hazy Sunset: let us start with our next class project. The faster color I'm using Islam in a law. Next color is orange. - I'm using Al Zarian crimson color Here. Alternatively, you can use any red our maroon color Mexico Larry's Purple. These are the basic sunset colors. Whenever we wish to paint a sunset, make sure you're including all these four colors and the final coterie spines gray. I'm using pines. Great to paint the subject. All those colors are from the brand. Centralia. You can use any brand you have. I'll start with reading the paper with clean water, and I'm using a mob brush off number four. I'm starting with the local law. Remember, in watercolors, you should always go from light color to the dark colors. Next comes the orange color. I am blending these two colors now using damn brush technique. Remember, it is a damp brush, not completely dried one. There you go. You can see how beautifully the colors have blended. Now I'll take calls are in crimson color, and I'll start applying it about the orange color. Last comes the purple. Now blend all these colors using the damn brush technique. One to her done blending. I will take a mix off al Zarian crimson with a little bit off purple, and I'll start hiding the clouds. The clouds are not typical round fluffy ones, just a small lines. You can achieve these small lines by lightly brushing the brush over your paper. That said, No, I'll keep this for drying. Now let us start hiding the foreground. I took finds great, and I'm starting to art by entries in the background, and these are not detailed. The pines, um, using damp brush technique. I am making the heart just into self edges, so it gives an illusion off the missed here. - Once you're done using the damn brush technique and creating the mist, leave it alone and start with the next step. Another layer off the pine trees here in the foreground, using the same technique that is time pressure to create the mist. - I think this is enough, and I'll start with the next layer off the pine trees. Them technique off, using damp fresh to create the missed here as well. I'll start with the last layer off the foreground last layer of the pine trees and now start adding pie entries. So in this landscape we're using two techniques that we have talked before. One is temptress technique. The other is random trees. Adding random tree. Soto add pine trees. I need more control, so I'm taking a synthetic brush and I'll start adding the pine trees. Once again, The technique off our ding pine trees is drawing a straight line. This is an easy technique. Dry a straight line on Moya brush in a zig zag manner are as many trees as you can here. A mining, random trees and not all of them are straight disk use more natural. Look to the landscape. - I think I have added as much as I can, so I'll stop right here and I'll start adding a few pine trees over the layers in the background. Doesn't it look wholesome? I guess this is my favorite landscape in this class. Only last two strips are remaining. One is splattering the stars the next days, adding a few words. So I'm taking my number zero brush and I will take white gosh as well and I'll start splattering the stars. I'll start adding the boats as well we're done here. I hope you like this class and thank you will more into the next
8. Class Project - Sunset Over The Balcony: Welcome to the new class project. I'll start with ah, colors I have used in this landscape. The faster color would be, Ah, Zarin crimson. It's kind off a deep and dark red. Next color would be oppression low. This is the most common color you can find in any off your article assets. I'm using indigo now on the last carload. Be pines gray as usual. Let's start by vetting the paper with clean water, and I'm using my brush size full on. I'll take crimson color on Allah played for the half off the paper. Let's apply another coat off the cholera. Always remember toe are at least two layers off the color or else Yoka, your painting will look very tall. Now I'll take pines create, and I'll start adding from the top off the paper. As you can see, I'm not mixing that I don't blue intentionally. If we does get mixed, it's OK because we will clearly cover this up with the clouds like we have talking, blending techniques. Now I'm taking into go and I'll cover the entire half of the paper with it. Now take more indigo and start adding the clouds like we have discussed in blending techniques. Remember, the paper has to be vet are damp. For this to work, you don't have to be very detailed with the clouds. Just draw a few lines, a bulky ones on a very thin lines as well. It gives more natural look to the clouds. I think this is enough. I'll keep this for drying. I suppose this tried well, so I'll take finds great and I'll start painting the buildings. As you can see, I'm not using any pencil sketch. I'm just roughly drawing the buildings, I said, roughly because the concept of this landscape is that you're watching the sunset or the balcony, so the buildings usually look just like how you are seeing from your balcony or a Terra's. Once you're done with outline, fill it up with more pines. Grace. - Now I'll just correct for you. Adjust here and dead. Let's add details so I'm taking synthetic brush. I don't start painting the light balls to complete this. I'll add a few wise, - I guess I'm ordering the little red soil stop right here and let this for drying. Now everybody's favorite part splattering the stars. So I'm taking number zero brush and I'm adding white Gosh, and I'm splattering Qala with the paper. There we are done with this. Looks intimidating for a beginner. But do you? A few trials. You will see the result very easily and very quickly. And thank you for watching.
9. Class Project - Sun & Stars: letter. Start painting on X landscape. I will start by listing of the colors. The faster calories. Dominello The second calories Answer in crimson. Ordinarily, you can take a Red Cola Armory. Nkala third calories. Burnt umber on the last calories finds gray. The brand that I've used here is sen area. You can use any brand of Nicolosi wish. Let us start by reading the paper with clean water, and I'm using my number four More brush and the first color. I take Islam in a low and I'll start applying this lemon yellow in the middle part of the paper. When you see the landscape, it does look like a bone number, but it's not burnt, embarrassing, quite thicker than what this landscape looks like. So it's because I have added all these locals on duh colors underneath the burnt umber to make it look quite light in color. I took all Zarin crimson and I have painted over the lemon alot. It's OK, it's supposed to paint like this, and now I'm taking bone number and I'll just go over the entire landscape again over these red as well as the locals. You can achieve this sort off. Clean blend on, live in your using 100% cotton paper. Now I'll take pines great, and I'll just add at the edges off each end off the paper. And, of course, using the damn brush technique, I will blend all the colors together and again. All these tents can be performed when your paper is 100% garden. If it is 25% Kortan, our abuser lose one. It tries way too quickly for you to blend these colors. Now before it dries, I'll quickly at the Milky Way, take to show a dry tissue and just remove the pain on the paper on the dairy Go. You'll get the Milky Way and I'm marrying the reflection off the Milky Way below. Now I'll are a few details below, so I will take a synthetic brush and I'll try to add a ripples in the leg. It's nothing. Just take finds great on add straight lines and I want to remind you my paper is still right here and that's it. I'll keep this or drying with the number two natural brush. I'm taking pines gray and I'll start adding the land that is present about the lake. - That's it. I'll start earning on the other side as well. Now as you can see, they're just here off the ground are called hard, just like we had talked before. Using damn brush technical self in the map on. Then I will gradually dragged the paint below to indicate that there is a shadow off this land. Slowly dragged the pain below just by using your brush damp brush. It takes a little bit of practice to get hang off these techniques, but trust me, practice once or twice and they will get it right and I'll give. This were drying. Now take white gosh and apply it over the Milky Way. We have painted just a light swatches and removed immediately with a tissue paper. You don't want to make it look too obvious. Perfect. Now I'll take zero number brush, and I'll start splattering the stars with White Wash. It could tissue paper and cover the area where you don't want the stars. Tobey splattered and you're done. Thank you for watching well, more to the next project
10. Class Project - Wintry Sunset: let us start painting the sunset in winters. I'm using only Toklas here, a mix off red and orange, which gives me a nice brick red color. On the second color, I'm using his spine's Cray. And, of course, the most common color for all the landscape is whitewash. You can use Whitewater color as well. Let us begin painting the landscape with the light sketch. I am diverting the paper into halves on from the bottom health. I'm starting to draw a leg. - Now . I will draw a few ice patches here and there before I start to overdo it. I'll stop right here and start with the printing process. Take clean water on a more brush and read only half off the paper here. We don't need dough with the complete paper. Now I'm taking the brick red color and I'll start to our plate. Take generous amount off. Pained now , using the damn press technical. Just soften their just. Now I'll take the brick red again and I'll start to apply it in the lake. Make sure you're not painting over the ice patches. Now I'll take a mix off brick red color on pines, create and I'll start toe are another layer into the lake. Adding the layer off unida color gives more depth to the landscape. If this trip feels complicated for you, you can skip it. We are done setting up the background now. Keep this for drying. And once you have completely tried this paper, then only start with the next step. The paper is tried. No. So I'm taking clients create and I'll start adding the trees. It is just a tree with trial branches. I'm taking synthetic brush so that I can have more control over this. I'm saying this again. Make sure the background is completely dried for this. Yeah, you can fast forward this video. It is just me painting these straight branches and trees all over the background. I'm not painting this tree straight because it gives more of a natural look this way. I'm also using the technique off riding random trees here. If you absorbed, I'll take some opens grand. I'll start adding the trees on the other side of the paper. - I'll show you another trick as you can see the lake. The starting point, it looks rather are so to cover their top, I'll start adding the trees over there. - Now I'll stop with the trees. I'll take pines, create again on my brush, and I'll start brushing it all over the people at random places on a few dried branches here and there. Same goes on the other side as well. Now, under that important part, take binds gray and just lightly painted under those ice patches. It gives the shadow effect. Now I'll take number zero brush on White Wash and I'll start splattering the snow all over the paper. Now to give this more wintry look, I'll start adding, Ah, little bit off whitewash over the branches as well. White gosh on those ice patches as well, splatter some more off the snow and we are done. You can see my hands to see how much I have played with the white garage. Help you like the simple landscape. Thank you for watching
11. Thank You: and we are done with the class today. Sedition I can give you is to please practise the techniques perfectly before you get started on the class projects. But I told you guys how we and I told you guys how I use the same techniques for all my landscapes. I thought I would share a few examples with you. And I hope you find this class helpful. See you next time. Bye, guys.
