About This Class

Are you tired of playing the same rhythm/strumming patterns over and over again?

Are you ready to learn some new rhythm/strumming patterns?

Are you a beginner, just learning how to play the guitar?

Have you played guitar for awhile and need some inspiration to get you out of a strumming slump?

Volume 2 builds on the patterns learned in Volume 1 from "The Rhythm Guitar Strumming Catalogue" by Greg Tabone. Learn from a professional musician who has taught guitar privately for decades, and taught music in the public education system (K to Grade 12) for over 32 years. I know the steps needed for students to learn, and how to help students learn for themselves with some guidance. Students must be exposed to many different musical concepts to learn. I will be presenting every one-bar strumming pattern for guitar in 10 volumes so that each guitarist will play EVERY pattern possible. That way they can be inspired to create their own music or change the same old strumming patterns they have used since they learned the guitar. As Einstein says, "if you do the same things, the same way you always did them and expect a different outcome, then that is the definition of insanity". I challenge you to try my course and to play every pattern I show you. You will definitely learn something new - perhaps changing your playing for ever!

Each volume will consist of:

* 8 patterns

* a step-by-step guide with rhythmic notation on the screen

* beginner to advanced levels - presented in parts of the course

* downloadable pdfs

* drum beats to accompany your practice

The 3 parts to each Volume include: Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced Levels

Part 1 - each rhythm pattern is demonstrated at a simple level on the acoustic guitar using one chord and focuses on learning the rhythm and not the chords.

Part 2- each rhythm pattern is played with 8 different chord progressions - the player should know the open/first position basic chords.

Part 3 - the electric guitar is used with drum tracks to show how the basic rhythms can be transformed into rock, metal, pop, or techno rhythms using simple barre chords.  Again the focus is on the rhythms and not on the chords used. The user sees how the basic down and up patterns which are standard on the acoustic guitar can be transformed to all down strokes to change the feel of the music.

Anyone completing all of the volumes of pattern lessons will be exposed to patterns that they probably never have played before. Upon completion of these volumes, the player should be motivated to change the same old strumming patterns they have used over and over to new, and fun alternatives. Start today! I have it all ready for you to learn from!

1. Introduction: Are you tired of playing the same rhythm/ strumming patterns over and over again? Are you ready to learn some new rhythm/strumming patterns? Are you a beginner, just learning how to play the guitar? Have you played guitar for awhile and need some inspiration to get you out of strumming slump. The Rhythm Guitar Strumming Catalog by Greg Tabone. Eight patterns in each volume. Step-by-step guide with rhythmic notation. Beginner to advanced level. Each volume contains another set of eight one-bar patterns. Quarter and eighth note rhythms. You will know all the one-bar patterns. Three parts to each volume. Part 1 - Beginner. Eight videos to play along with. Eight different rhythms notated. Part 2 - Intermediate. Eight rhythms used with eight chord progressions. Play along. Pdfs are provided. Part 3 - Advanced. 8 rhythms used in new ways. Ideas for alternate techniques used on the electric guitar. The Rhythm Guitar Strumming Catalog by Greg Tabone. You will be inspired!!! 2. Learning Tips for Part 1: This is volume two-part one. So if you joined my course previously, you will know that we took eight rhythms and we played along and we made those rhythms really accessible and easy for students to learn. What I've done in volume two now is I've taken eight more patterns and I've kept them simple again. And the structure is going to be the same like in the first volume, where in this part I will move very slowly with some open position chords. We will take it slowly. I'll provide the PDF for you so that you can strum along. You can understand what this strums are, and you will be able to play some simple chords just to get the pattern going. 3. Learning Pattern #9: For pattern number nine. Now we're going to do the eighth notes on beat 1 + and just have 2 3 4 as quarter notes. Go back to putting the + beat near the beginning of the measure for this one. 1234. So 12, ready, go. Move to your D chord. One, two, ready, go. 1 + 2 3 4 We'll go back and forth between G and D. One, two, ready, go. And end on the G. 4. Learning Pattern #10: For pattern number ten, we will have eighth notes at the beginning and the end of the bar, so it'll be 1+2 3 4+. Starting with the G chord. One, two, ready, go. Start with a D chord. Ready, 234. Now we will go back and forth between a G and a D. 1234. 5. Learning Pattern #11: For pattern 11, we have 1+2 3+4, 1+2 3+4. Let's try that with a G chord. 1+2 3+4. Try with a D chord. One, two, ready, go. It's very simple. Let's try with a G to the D chord. One, two, ready, go. 6. Learning Pattern #12: For Pattern 12. Now we have 1+2 3+4+ let's try that with a G chord, 1+2 3+4+. The D chord here we go, 234. back and forth between the G and the D, two bars each 234. 7. Learning Pattern #13: Pattern number 13. We have 4 eighth notes at the beginning and two quarter notes at the end. So the pattern will be 1+2+3 4 Very simple. Let's try that with a D chord, 1+2+3 4. Now let's go back and forth between the G chord and the D chord. One, two, ready, go. 8. Learning Pattern #14: Pattern 14. Let's try it with a C chord. Let's change things up a little bit. So we're going to be playing with a C chord. And we're gonna be doing the pattern 1+2+3 4+, 1+2+3 4+. Let's try that. 1,2. ready, go, and we'll go to a G chord. For this one, ready, 234. We'll go back and forth from the C to a G. 1, 2 ready, go. If you notice a lot of times when we put the quarter note in with a bunch of eighth notes, it really helps to break up the rhythm and add some interest in it. That's why I'm giving you all of the possibilities with eighth notes and quarter notes. And I bet while you're playing through some of these songs, you actually can hear that those rhythms match up with songs that you know, that have been out for many years that have those particular rhythms. 9. Learning Pattern #15: Now we will move onto pattern 15, which has 6 eighth notes at the beginning and one-quarter note. And we'll do our C chord again. So starting off 1234. 1+2+3+4 and we'll move to a G chord. One, two, ready, go. Now let's try them together. C for two bars and G for two bars, 1+2+3+4 very good. 10. Learning Pattern #16: Now we will move on to pattern number 16, and it's all eighth notes, so straight across, very simple. Let's try an A chord for this one. So it'll be down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up. Pretty straightforward, but I want to include it in our list of patterns. So you have all the patterns, 1234, down, up, down, up down, up, down, up. That's very simple pattern. You almost feel like speeding up a lot once you start playing all eighth notes. So again, control your tempo and you can play with the drum machine or a drummer or metronome, whatever you wanted to keep on pace. And let's move to an E chord and try the same pattern again, 1234. and Many times we kind of accent the first beat, especially where we're playing the same rhythm, eighth notes all along. So if we're starting and we might feel that little pulse, just a little pulse. It also helps you stay in rhythm and keep the beat once we get to more complicated rhythms. So let's try an A chord going to an E chord, two bars each, 1234. 11. Learning Tips for Part 2: Volume two part two. Once again, as we did in volume one, we are going to be playing chord progressions with the new rhythms that I've presented. Once again, it'll be the same chord progressions because again, this is about learning one concept at a time. I think it's really important that you learn rhythms without stumbling on other parts of the guitar to learn. If you have the chord progression chart handy, you can practice through the chord progressions using the eight rhythms that I've given you in this course, and add these to the other rhythms. And you'll have 16 new guitar rhythms that you can add to your repertoire. I hope you enjoy the chord progressions and the new rhythms. 13. Pattern #9 with Chord Progressions: Pattern number nine. The rhythm is 1+2 3 4 and the chords are G, E minor, C, and D. 14. Pattern #10 with Chord Progressions: Pattern number 10, the rhythm is 1+2 3 4+ and the chords are G, E minor, C, and D7. 15. Pattern #11 with Chord Progressions: Pattern 11, the rhythm is 1+2 3+4. The chords are A, D, E, and E7. 16. Pattern #12 with Chord Progressions: Pattern number 12. The rhythm is 1+2 3+4+ and the chords are A minor, D minor E and E7. A Minor. 17. Pattern #13 with Chord Progressions: Pattern number 13. The rhythm is 1+2+3 4 and the chords are C, A minor, D minor, G. 18. Pattern #14 with Chord Progressions: Pattern number 14. The rhythm is 1+2+3 4+. And the chords are C, A minor, D minor, G7. 19. Pattern #15 with Chord Progressions: Pattern number 15. The rhythm is 1+2+3+4 and the chords are C, A minor, F and G. C chord, A minor, and we will use an F bar chord Up 3 frets to a G bar chord. And a small F chord. 20. Pattern #16 with Chord Progressions: Pattern number 16. The rhythm is 1+2+3+4+ and the chords are D, E minor, G and A7. D chord 21. Learning Tips for Part 3: Welcome to part three. Once again in this volume 2, I am using the electric guitar for the third part to demonstrate how you can move from the down, up picking that I said was so strict to more of a down, down picking so that you can strum the guitar and you can get different rock rhythms and really, really cool sounds by focusing on picking down. There are some times where you want to pick down and up, and down, up, if you're doing that galloping rhythm ....... ....... whatever the sound that you're trying to make. But I have, again changed the patterns. And I've also changed the tempo so the beats per minute will be different. I've had different drum machines and I want you to play along with me as best you can. I tried to outline the chords, but it's not as much about playing the exact chords in part three as trying to get the technique for the pick and getting, sort of that sound and how it melds with the drum machine. So I hope you'll enjoy these additional eight patterns. Again, we've got 16 patterns and looking forward to adding over 80 patterns. I've done basically every possible rhythm chord and you'll be getting that in future volumes as I develop them. So hope you enjoy this part of the video. 22. Applications for Pattern #9: Part three, pattern number nine. 23. Applications for Pattern #10: Part three, pattern number ten. 24. Applications for Pattern #11: Part three, pattern number 11. 25. Applications for Pattern #12: Part three, pattern number 12. 26. Applications for Pattern #13: Part three, pattern number 13. 27. Applications for Pattern #14: Part three, pattern number 14. 28. Applications for Pattern #15: Part three, pattern number 15. 29. Applications for Pattern #16: Part three, pattern number 16. 30. Project & Thank You!: Thank you very much for taking my course. I really appreciate it. I look forward to getting feedback from you. And again, I have a few assignments. I would like you to take a few rhythms and try and put them together. For example, you might take pattern eight and meld it with pattern four. Or if you're in volume two, you might take pattern 16 and meld it with pattern 10. It doesn't really matter if you even want to, if you've taken both courses. If you want to take patterns from both, that would be great because we have 16 patterns to move for. Thank you.
