1. Introduction to the Narrative Essay: Hello, I'm Dr. Michael McIntyre and I've been teaching, writing literature and other English E-type things at the college level for more than 20 years. And in this course, we're going to learn about the narrative essay. First, we will look at what we mean by SA, what is the strange beast of which we speak? We're going to learn that. And then in particular, we're going to look at the narrative essay, which is a little bit different from other forms of essays. But through this, you'll learn about the essay format, the essay structure. And you'll be able to expand from that to other essay forms and also other forms of writing. And perhaps that's the most important part of what we're going to learn in this course. This class is created for anyone who wants to learn how to write the essay, or anyone who wants to learn writing in general, because the essay format is basic, it is fundamental to almost all forms of writing. Whether you want to write an essay, or a book, or a poem, or a presentation, or a business proposition. Or you want to put together an application to get into a school or acquire a job. This form of writing is fundamental. Learn this and you'll be able to write almost anything in this course. What we're gonna do is you're going to strip away the mystery. At the end of this course, you'll write a narrative essay for yourself. You will have acquired the skill to create this most basic and universal form of communication.
