2. Project Overview: first things first, we're going to begin with our classroom assignment. We're going to create a mood board. Ah, mood Board is one of the first things you want to do before you start styling a space. It's a great way to plan it out. Start to define what your color palette is, what textures, What's the inspiration before you go shopping and buy all of these great things and none of them go together? We're going to start this by creating a Pinterest board, and then we're going to save those images from our Pinterest board. We're gonna go into photo shop and layout of space. First things first. Let's go to Pinterest and start pinning.
3. Create a Mood Board: Ah, great resource to go to when you're looking for decor. Is PB teen You're actually just want to go to their website PV teen dot com and scroll down to their decor section and their endless options. Okay, so first things first, we're going to start by creating a Pinterest board. You're gonna first go into your browser and go to Pinterest. I have a board called Skill Share the art of styling tutorial. I'm going to click on the Windsor floor lamp and we're gonna actually say this image into a dropbox file and we're gonna label it floor lamp. So it's something we can easily reference once we go into a photoshopped file. You'll do this with all of your 10 images so that you're ready to place them in your Photoshopped document. Once you have all your images downloaded and in there in a dropbox folder, you're then gonna want to open Photoshopped. You're gonna first start by going to file navigating through to place, and you're gonna place each of your 10 images you're going to select your image with the arrow tool and then when you go through edit, you're going to scroll down to the free transform, you're gonna hold shift command T, and that way you can actually scale each image. Depending on how you want to lay out your mood board, you may want to make the general room inspiration larger in scale than perhaps of eyes being a little bit smaller and scale, and it kind of helps you balance out how you want to lay out the space. Once you've done that, you want to make sure that each one of your layers is named and organized, and then you're gonna use the shape tool to draw a circle. Next, you'll use the text tool toe. Add a number afterwards. You'll select both layers by holding shift and then right, clicked and select link layer so that the two elements move together. Once you have your numbers, you can begin to label one through 10 so it's very easy to lay out. Some of the other design elements they're gonna want to add is drawing a line with the line tool. You'll hold shift to keep the lines straight and then drag it down toe where you'd like it to go in the document. Next, you'll select your text tool and begin to type each element again below the line. One through 10. And that's it. Your mood board is created, and you now have a plan ready so you can begin styling your room.
4. Styling Tools: one of the essential things you need every time you begin to style of space is having the proper tools. This will help you avoid a lot of hiccups along the way. So having a great Phillips head, a flathead leveller, all of these tools are essential to have a successful day and get things done right. One of the things that's not featured here, but it's also important depending on what you're doing, is having a power drill. These are all really essential items to make sure that you style your space flawlessly.
5. Styling Phase 1: So now that we finished our mood board, we know exactly what we want our space to look like. Now comes the really fun part. We're going to start styling the space, so we're first going to begin with Phase one. It's all about the large accessories in the room, so that's gonna be your area rug, large wall art accent tables and any lighting that you need to add to the space. One of the first ones to start with is really the area rug. So when placing an area rug in your space, it's important to remember two things. One to have a rug pad so it doesn't slip while you're walking on top of it, and to to make sure that the two front legs or at least over top of the rug, so make sure that it's connecting the entire space. Another really important pieces, adding some accent pieces. So in the space, we actually have a really nice accent table here, which has gold elements and marble just to add a little bit of additional texture to the space as well, we added in a Moroccan poof again, it's a small little piece, but it really adds some nice personality and really goes back to that world travel feel that I was trying to get in the space. When it comes to adding lighting in your space, I think the more the better. At a bare minimum, make sure that you have at least ah, floor a table lamp in your space. I think if you have an accent chair, there's a great opportunity to add lighting there. Here, I got a little bit more creative. I actually have a wall sconce with an exposed bald on one side and then a floor lamp that pulls in white and gold elements that are also mixed into the accent table as well as the wall art. So once you've completed phase one, it's a really good time to take a lot a break. Step back, look at the space and say, What pieces do I need to add to take the space over the top
6. Styling Phase 2: one of the first things, which I think is probably one of the most fun things to do, is buy accent pillows and phase two. It's one of those things that you may even want to splurge. John. You know their pillows. It's a really fun part of the process, and it's a great way to add that extra personality to the space. A lot of times when I'm looking at a pillow, I kind of start with what was in the rug from Phase one, and I try to add to it. So there's pink in my rug. There's red. I try to make sure I can pull some of those things into my pillow. But I also want to add some more texture and personality, too. And this is a great way to do it for size and scale, another really important accent that you're going to see over and over again and photo shoots. Photography is a throw blanket or a sheepskin throw. I really like to use the sheeps and throws one, because they just add an extra texture to the space. There warm. They're cuddly. They're nice to curl up with that night when you're watching TV, but they just add a little bit more depth to the space. When in doubt, add one. Never say no. So one of the final elements of the room that's really important is adding your decorative accessories, vases, small picture frames, art books that really add that personal touch to your space. One of the first things that I think is important to make it all connected is looking for similar color palette. So in phase one, we had a lot of black and gold. You know a great way is to find a globe that kind of pulls those things together, and it also goes back to the world travel theme. Secondly, looking into this little bowl here, the pattern is very similar to what's in the area rug, and we're just repeating it in a smaller scale. Really great thing, too, is having artwork, things that maybe were collected by friends. And now you're able to frame them having a personal touch, maybe with in New York City escape something that you did in your travels. Art books are also really great, you know, have them stack up, and it really lets people kind of know What's your taste? What's your style? And then also is a great accessory to add to your space when really layering the space. Just remember that it really is a push and pull its editing. It's layering and going back and forth until you find the perfect balance to make your space look beautiful.
7. Finishing Touches: So now it's just finishing touches. You know, that might be Windex ing some surfaces, wiping something's up, adding some felt path. You are all done and you have created a beautiful space. - I cannot wait to see your mood boards on the project gallery. I mean, upload them right away. I just want to see what inspiration you are creating to get started on styling your space. Also make sure to do hashtag Thea art of styling at still share and also at PVT.
