1. Introduction: everyone. And welcome to this skill share course. My name is Greg, and today I'm going to be sharing with you how to create T shirt designs with canvas dot com. If you're a beginner selling T shirts, this will be a great course for you because Canada dot com is a free graphic design Web site that you can use on a Mac or PC but allows you to create T shirt designs from templates so you don't need any prior graphic design experience. If you do already have graphic design experience, this may still be a beneficial course for you because it's straight to the point ensures you exactly how you can use canvas as a free graphic design tool. This skill share course will walk through every step of the T shirt design process with Canada dot com, and by the end of the course, you'll have everything you need to start creating your own T shirt designs. 2. Getting Started On Canva: So the very first step that we're gonna do here is go over to canvass dot com, and it's C a n v a dot com, and I'll bring you right to their home page just like this, and you can click either with sign up with email where you can sign up over here. Either way, you sign up for a free account. It's not gonna cost you anything that once you're logged in, we'll go from there.
3. Creating A Custom T-Shirt Template: All right, So once we're logged into Canada dot com, this is what it will look like. And again, this is completely free. You can upgrade your canvas account. I'll talk about that later in this course. But everything we do here you'll be able to do for free. So the very first step, once we're logged into our account, typically people will choose from templates right here, However, we're creating a design that's going to go on a T shirt, which is actually going to be a pretty large print. So we're going to need a big file size toe work with. So what we're going to do is click custom dimensions right over on the side, or you can click create a design, which is up here. And then if you click created design, then we just had custom dimensions up in the corner, and from here, we're going to make it as big as they allow. So, on Canada, the biggest weaken go is 5000 pixels by 5000 pixels, and just make sure that you are set on pixels. There's also inches millimeters and centimeters. We're going to deal with pixels here, so once you have 5000 by 5000. We'll go ahead and create new design. Now. It only takes a couple of seconds to load here. But now we have a blank template on can vote that is 5000 by 5000 pixels, which will be plenty big for a T shirt design.
4. Creating A Text Only Design: So now comes the fun part. Now, typically, people will choose from templates right over on the side. However, for T shirt designs, I have a little insider secret that I like to use for myself that will be sharing with you . You can scroll down on the side. Here. You can hover over these, and what I recommend you do is select text. And then we'll bring you all of these cool, formatted fonts you can use here. And you can click any of these and bring them onto your canvas, and then you can edit them. You can add in other things now font Onley shirts actually, so really well on T shirts. I can definitely attribute most of my print on demand success to shirts that only have text on them and no actual images. We'll talk about that a little bit more during this course. However, for the time being, we can pick any of these and start to customize them. So, for example, sake, I'm going to pick this one right here. We just click it once and then, as you can see, our template is 5000 by 5000 pixels, which is really big now. What I love about canvas is with fonts. You can make them as Bigas you want, and it's not going to lose and equality. So what I recommend doing is dragging this up towards the corner and they will drag out the corner to make this big. So it fits the space. Now we can start to edit these things. So as you can see over here, there are multiple different fonts within each of these. And as you can see, this phone is different than this one. So the very first step that we do is click on group and then we click off of our template. Now, as we hover over, we can see that these are separate and we can edit them individually. So for this T shirt design, we really don't need a second font group over here. So I'm just going to click it once and then hit the delete button or backspace and it will remove that. Now we're dealing with this for our shirt design, and we're off to a good start. So a couple of fundamental things to note here is when you click on this right here, you can actually change the color of it so you can switch that to a gray. You can change it to purple. You can do anything you like. Your I'm going to leave it on black. And then additionally, you can change the size of it by either selecting from the font size is over here, or you can always move out the corners to make it bigger or smaller. And then lastly, you can change the actual fun group. If you did want to, you can switch that over here and then if you wanted to go back, all you have to do is hit the undo button up top, and it will go back to what you had previously. So I like how this is looking. So I'm just going to click off and then click back on. And now I'm going to start changing the words here. So for this example, I'm going to use yoga for the niche that we're going to create this T shirt design with. And once you have your inspiration or your ideas, you'll be able to kind of plug and play them here. I'm just going to make one up on the spot as we go, I'm just going to go with yoga and then a longer were here, which I'll go with sunshine and then a shorter word. Here's just what fits perfectly well with wine that kind of rhymes right there. Yoga, sunshine and wine. So, as you can see, the customization of this is very easy to do. And if you need to change anything again, you can keep changing the size until it looks right to you. But if you're going for a text only design and you have this filled in and you're happy with it, there's only a couple extra steps. So you just click off of this once and you can center this, you can make sure that everything's lined up properly and again. This is left justified. Just make sure that it's not too far off that it's getting cut off of your template here. And just make sure that it's in the center and somewhere towards the top of the design here , so we don't have to deal with too much reformatting. When we go upload this to different websites on T shirts, it should already be in the chest area of the shirt So with that being said, if we're done with our text only design, all we have to do now is hit the little download button and then PNG is the file format that we want to go with now. A quick note here. If you do pay for a can of a premium, membership is the transparent background. Now, without it, we can turn this on. If we try to click it, it tries to enrol us in a free 30 day trial, and then you have to pay monthly. After that, I don't like to add on extra expenses, and I imagine you don't either. So we're going to click, maybe later, and we're not going to do that. What I'm gonna show you after we save this is how to remove this background so we can put it on a shirt and it doesn't have the white background. But for now, we're just going to hit, download, make sure it's set on PNG, and then we'll hit download, and we just give this a couple of seconds here to save here, and then it downloads this right to our computer. So as you can see, we have this file saved right on our computer now. And it's 5000 by 5000 pixels, so we can zoom in and the clarity stays the same. But as you see when we zoom out, we have that white background. So what I'm gonna show you in the next video is how to remove this background, whether you're using a Mac or if you're using a PC.
5. Removing The Background Color: So if you are using an Apple computer, you're definitely in luck because we have this program called Preview right here that just opens your images by default, but a really nice tool that we have in preview. If you hit edit here you have Instant Alfa, which is right over here. If we click that on now, weaken, drag any of the background, just click and drag, and it's select all of that background, and we can easily just hit the delete button right on our computer, and it takes away the background. Now, as you can see, it only removed the white background that was all connected. So all of the little white backgrounds that are not connected to anything else you have to do them individually. But it's a simple is just clicking and dragging and then hitting the delete button to remove it. So in the matter of a few seconds here, we can remove all of the white background, and then we have a PNG ready to go directly onto a T shirt. So at this point, all you have to do is hit X, and then it will be saved with no background and you can upload it directly onto T shirts. Now what do you do if you do not have an apple computer and you're using a PC? There's a free website that I like to use, and I'll walk you through how to use it here. And it's called luna pic dot com. So we'll just open up a new window and we'll go over there now. It's a very basic website, but it has a perfect, transparent tool that helps you remove the background completely for free. So you just click transparent, and then you choose that file that we just saved to our computer. And once this loads has the background right in it, So all we have to do is just click on the color that we want to remove. So we'll just click on this white background and it removes it, just like the instant Alfred it. So we'll hit, apply, and then we do it for all the spaces inside as well. So we just click on those apply, click on each one of these and keep hitting, apply and just give me a second here and I'll go through all of these now as you can see. It doesn't take that much time to do this, but it is a little bit easier if you do have an Apple computer. But nonetheless, this is a free way to remove the background if you are on a PC and one more okay, now our design is ready to go. It has no background. So all we have to do at this point is hover over file and then save image will save as a PNG, and now it's saved on our computer without the background, just like the other one was. So that's the easy way to remove a background, whether you're on a PC or an apple computer. But if you do have the premium Candra membership, that would be pretty cool, and you can easily just hit the download transparent background, and they'll do all of those steps at once. And then you can upload directly to a T shirt. But at least now you guys know how to remove the background if you need to. In the next video, I'll show you how to use canvas dot com to use some of the templates instead of using just text on Lee designs
6. Creating Custom Graphic Designs: All right, So now let's move into creating T shirt designs from templates on canvas dot com. And all we have to do for this is just hover over templates. Click that once now we have a bunch of different templates that we can choose from something that I really like about this is. You can separate all of these elements individually, and you can delete the background and you can do anything you want to them. So look at these as what the elements are on them. For example, see if we wanted this on a T shirt without the sand in the background. It's easy to just delete that sand, and we can use that on a T shirt. So first things first, let's click on this design and just hit the back space so we have a clear canvas to work with, and then we'll just hit this design once and it imports that full design and all we have to do here is click on this background, the sand that we don't want. We'll click on that once, Then we'll hit the delete or backspace button, and now we have the elements that we actually need But something to note here is we have a white background and those kind of stripes that we saw before our white element as well. So what we'll do here is we'll click on the background and we'll change that color to something that's completely different. And then we'll end up removing that from the background with one of the two ways that I showed you previously. So we just do something that is completely different, that I'll be easy to click and remove, select all of that color and remove it. But once this is set here, all we then have to do is just click in on this text and we can highlight it. And we can start to change this to whatever we want on that design, and then we go through the same process. Once this is set, we just hit, download PNG save and then remove the background so you can scroll through all of these over here. And all you have to do is clear your canvas by selecting everything, hit the delete and then you can choose another one that you want to use. We'll just click that once we'll click on the background delete, and then we'll click on the background again and delete that again. And now, as long as we have a different color in the background, will be able to remove it. We don't need this separate text down here, so we'll delete that. I was going to change us toe white for simplicity sake, and now we can change the text in here, and we can put that right on a shirt again. Just remove the background easy. Is that so? Needless to say, you can get very creative with this because there are thousands of different designs and templates you can choose from. And then, if you want to add in any extra elements to this, you can always add text or add custom text. Or you can add different elements As you scroll through here, you'll find different shapes, different lines, illustrations, and you can search things in the top. For example, sake, if you wanted to add a cat, you can search for that and then any of these that don't have a dollar sign they are free to use so you can just click that and you can add it right to a shirt you can change the size, and you can add that anywhere on the shirt. And then, if you have any custom icons or shapes that you want to upload, all you have to do is click on up loads and then upload your own design, and you'll be able to add that to the design as well. And then again, you go through the same process, download and then you remove the background one way or another, and then you ready to upload that onto a shirt.

You should now be able to create these designs on your own. You now know how to remove the backgrounds, and you can easily resize them for any print on the man website.
