1. Introduction: Congratulations on taking
this amazing first step. If you are here, that means that you are ready
to start your Etsy venture. I am Laura, and it is such a
pleasure to be your teacher. I have been selling
on Etsy since 2014, reaching over 23
thousand sales and more than 6 thousand
five-star reviews. And now I'm so excited to share all my knowledge with
you in this course, you'll learn how to
start an Etsy shop from scratch with no
experience at all. You learn how to
open your store and less than four minutes had to have a complete
sharp profile, how to write selling
descriptions and the killer bow section, how to price your item
and so much more, we will go through
every detail that you need in order to successfully
launch your Etsy shop. At the end of the course, you'll know for sure
that you're brand new, shining at the store is in
its best shape possible, ready to start making sales. This is the perfect
course for beginners. But it's great even
if you're selling on Etsy for some time
now and wish to re-brand your store and
makes sure it's top notch. Are you ready? Let's begin the adventure. Thank you so much for
joining my portraits.
2. Open Your Shop in Less Than 4 Minutes: Are you ready? If you do not have
an Etsy account, you need to create an account, add your email firstName,
password, and register. If you are already using Etsy, I am sure that you
already have an account. So if you are ready to
sell on Etsy than you need to click on sell on
Etsy in the right corner. Millions of shoppers can't wait to see what you have in store, open your Etsy store. It is really important for the shop preferences to set up your shop
language in English, even though your native
language is not English, it doesn't really matter
because this will make a huge difference
when it comes to SEO and indexing your shop. Be very careful with this
because you can't change it. This is the only thing
that you can't change. Choose the country from where you will ship your products, or from where you create, automatically shows the currency that the customer prefers. So you don't need to worry, just choose the currency
that you prefer. Now. Choose if you are selling
full-time or if it's part-time, this is not really important. It's just something for Etsy. Now, you probably know a name
or you may have an idea. Here is the place
where you can really see if the shop name
is available or not. I usually check names first
with name checker.com. Those are not 100% accurate, even if you search on Etsy a particular name and
it may not show up, that name might be
taken because someone may have created an account and they're not really using it. The only way to really see that a shop name is
available is trade. Here. Don't worry about
this because you can also change your name once without any problem and then you can also change it more
times if you want, if you send an application
to add c to choose a name now you can also
change it without any problem before
making your shop live. To finish this setup, you will need only one listing. So I made a bit of
magic here and that is a listing just for
the sake of this video. To continue with
the next step here, you have to choose your country. Again, be very honest,
very transparent here. Choose where is
your bank located. Complete all the
information, all the data, depending on your country, you will have probably a
slightly different format. And after you complete
these, click again, save and continue, and you'll be taken to set up your billing. There is where you need to add
all your bank information. And only after you have
completed everything and makes sure that everything
matches at your name, matches with bank information, with old data that
you have entered. And only after you
set up billing, click on Open your shop. Only then the shop will be lie. Before opening your
shop to the public. Let's fix your storefront and let's see how
it looks right now. Then on your profile, click on your store. It's funny that they always say that your shop on
Etsy since 1969, I don't know why they
chose this year. Only after you publish, they will show
your current year. This is how your
storefront looks. Now without anything, here, we will start
editing your store, and we will do this
in the next lesson.
3. Edit Your Store: In order to edit it, click on Edit shop. You can add your shop icon, which can be your logo. Make sure to add it
in a square format. I create all my
graphics with Canva. Canva.com for me was the best tool and the
easiest tool to use. It's a free tool. They also have a
premium subscription, but you can do lots of things
with the free version, so no need to worry about that. There you have
lots of templates. Also, you can play and create something for
your Etsy store. After that, you can
add your banner. For the banner, I suggest
you choose the big banner. This looks really amazing, really professional, and it
helps your shop stand out. You also have a mini banner, but I really suggest
a big banner. And for the standard
package you do not have available the carousel
and the collage. After you have
added your banner, you click on Done. And here is where you
can add your shop title. It is very good here
to use keywords. This is very important
for your SEO. What do you want to sell? What is your product?
Are you selling? T-shirts, funny t-shirts,
or funny gifts? Define your product location. This is really important. You should always add the location from where
you ship your products. Don't add a location
that seems fancy. This might get your account deactivated and you
don't want that. So make sure to add your
relocation. Where are you from? Where are you based from? Where do you ship your
products then for your shop owner here you
should use your own photo, earn their trust right away. So as soon as they
land on your shop, they will see your photo there. We'll see you smiling,
looking really amazing. And they will
immediately like you. That's for sure. I can guarantee that. The next is the
shop announcement. In the beginning, you can add something like
welcome to my store. It's so great to have you here. Remember what we have discussed about the
voice of your brand. You need to be really friendly. Etsy is a super
friendly platform. It's about creators, it's about the world of handmade products. It's about curators,
about vintage items. So everything is really, really personal
and very friendly. So you need to have this super friendly voice and tone all over your Etsy store. And then of course, in your direct interactions
with your customers. So keep it short,
keep it simple, keep it fun, keep it light. The next part, the updates. Updates can be added only
with the sell on Etsy AB. And I will show you later
on in the second part of this video where I will show exactly my shop and
how I use my updates. The next part is about part. Here is your place to shine. Here you can add up to
five photos and a video. For the photos, make
sure to add them in a landscape mode so that they'd look really
good and professional. And you can add one
video where you can present yourself
like, Hi, I'm Laura. Welcome to my Etsy store. Or you can have a more professional video about your brand, about your products. Show how your product works. Use a video section to shine, to show your true colors, to be as bright as possible, colorful, and have fun. Every visitor is your friend, is your best friend. So imagine that you are
greeting your best friend. This is your little home or little local shop or your
friend comes to visit. This is your place
to add your story. At a story headline. You can make it fun, or this is our story. Are welcome to our sharp. If the announcement is
more about your store and about something general about your brand and
about your service. This is the place where
you can share your story. You can be here as
personal as possible. If Amazon and eBay are
more about the product, Etsy is also about the seller. Customers love the really love this personal
touch around the web. In this section, you can add all your social media accounts
plus your website or blog. But remember, this is the only place where you
should add any external links. Next, you can add a shop
members, the owner yourself. If you have a systems, you have someone in customer service, the
shipper photographer. You can add as many
members as you wish. Then you can add
short biography or something sweet about yourself, like always walking on the
sunny side of the street. Local, Where are you
selling in person? If you already have
a local store or if you participate in any event, then here is the place
where you can add this. It will help you show up in the local searches,
shop policies. Yes. You already have a
template made by Etsy, which is quite basic and quite okay and you
can use that for now. So it's really important to
specify your processing time. The buyers are always
responsible for custom taxes because
you can't control this. This is only the
customer's responsibility. If you are working with a
print on demand company, you will not accept returns
because they don't do that. So if you want to set up a
print full or quantify storm, you have to mention
here that you do not accept returns and
cancellations. You could work out some exchanges if you're
selling digital downloads. Again, you'd can't accept
returns and exchanges. And she mentioned that the
following items can be returned or exchange custom
personalized orders, perishable products,
digital downloads, intimate items like
publish shop policies. And this is it. If your location
is in Europe than you will have that seller details and you need
to mention your name, business address, VAT, if you
are from United States or from Australia or
other countries will probably not
even see that part. After you finish everything, you just click View sharp and everything that you have
done so far is safe.
4. The Key Components of Your Listing: The main components of
your listing that adds the analyses one matching
query's are your title, tags, categories,
and attributes. Always start finding
the keywords first because it will be easier afterwards to create
your title from the keywords. Plus you would already
know the competitors and the best sellers
from your keyword. Research titled, plays the most
important keywords at the beginning of the title
and make it informative. But current size,
make it descriptive. And don't just throw
keywords in there. You are addressing a human
being and not a machine. Titles like women's shirt, cool shirt, Trinity
for women graphic top, gene shirt, workout gear has a very low conversion rate because it confuses
the customer. You need to be specific. Remember that customers know
exactly what they want. They want a graphic shirt for women or a funny
top for workout. Etsy used to love
very long titles. That is why it offers
up to 140 characters. But since the Google
Shopping integration, ETC, now prefers shorter titles, it would probably be impossible
to change the limit now and force everyone to change
all the old listings. But you should know this
and keep your titles short. Write two or three phrases or long tail keywords that
best describe your product. Keep it simple and short. A good title is something like abstract wall art for bedroom, or abstract wall art. Large modern painting
for bedroom. Don't go longer than this. Eventually just add the sizing
or a short code if needed. Don't add your shop's name. Also. Do not add the name
of the painting itself and keep that
for the description. I have seen many stores. Let's start with
the actual name of the product or collection. And this doesn't
help you in any way. The first word from the title or the most
important of all, always includes
keywords there and keep any other specific detail
towards the end of the title. Be clear and not cool. Instead of finding clever names for your designs of products, use keywords and the
exact search terms that your potential
buyers are using. Title tips. Number one, keep it short. Two or three phrases
are perfect. Number to make it descriptive, you are addressing human being. Number three, be specific and accurately
describe your product. Number four plays the
most important keywords at the beginning of the title. Number five, separate the
keywords with commas or dashes. Number six, use
capital letters for the most important words
for a professional look. Tags. In our previous section, we talked all about finding
the right keywords. And we have learned
to always use all 13 tags and
make them as varied as possible so that you have more opportunities to be
found by various customers. Always use long tail keywords
and not single words. One important rule is that
you do not have to repeat the assay categories
and the attributes because these work
as tags as well. You also do not need to repeat the exact same words
from the title. You can highlight one
particular keyword if you wish, and rewrite it as a tag too. For example, if your title is
set, free botanical prints, nature wall art for living room, you can also have the tags, botanical prints and
set of free prints. You can also add
nature wall art, but you do not need
the exact words from the title rewritten as tags. It's even better to have brand new expressions for a
better exposure and to show up in more search results accurately describe
your product. Fruit tags do not add popular tags are
good tags that have nothing or too little to do with your
product because these will have a negative
impact on your exposure. Very important. Add titles and tags in the
language of your store. The titles and tags must be in the language you chose
when you open your shop, which I highly
recommend the English. Adding tags in other languages will not help your
products appear in search results and don't
worry about translations as AT will automatically
translate titles, descriptions, and tags in other languages if
shoppers prefer. So categories. Categories in Etsy
act like tags to. That is why it is best to add a very specific category
to your listing. This will help you
with better exposure. Choosing the best
subcategory is also important as it will give you more visibility in
the search results. For example, if you are
selling digital downloads, you'd like to use
the subcategory, digital prints or
maybe wall they call, they may be a better choice than craft supplies and tools. If you're selling vinyl records, you may want to know if your customers will buy
them to listen to them, or just for Dakpo,
thus you, now, if you choose the category
music or Home Depot, attributes, attributes
worth as tags too. They also help buyers to filter the search results
so that they can find exactly what they want. Even if ads, he
says that they are optional, they really are not. They are a huge
part of etsy SEO. So always fill in all the sections when
adding a new listing. As tributes are given by the
category and subcategory of your product only
after you choose that the attributes
will show up. Some categories will have
more options available, and others will feature more general attributes like primary color,
occasion, and holiday. If we have a digital
print for wool Dakpo, you can see primary colors, secondary colors, subject, room, home-style orientation, framing pipe with
holiday and occasion. A lot of attributes
that all contributes to your exposure in search results. Customers can filter out results when they search
for a specific print. So the more details you offer, the bigger chances
you have to be found. Bona. Shop sections. Offering an amazing shopping
experience is essential. One of the best ways to do
this is for shop sections. Help your visitors to
navigate for your shop, especially if you have
lots and lots of listings. Breaking up your Etsy store
intersections makes your sharp accessible and it offers a very user-friendly experience. Moreover, makes sure
to use keywords in your sections to boost your
relevancy in the marketplace. I have seen many stores
without sections, and this is one of
the biggest mistakes. I've also seen shops that have unclear sections and you have no idea what exactly
you will find there. So make it clear
and use keywords. If you're selling apparel, use sections like tops and T's. Dresses, Gmail
outfits, funny shirts, get inspired from
the ETC categories. If you're selling only prints or just one type of product that comes in many styles and themes. Use the themes from
your products. Let's say nature prints, abstract prints, famous
people prints, and so on. But make sure to include
keywords and not have random categories like nature,
abstract famous people.
5. Create Thumbnails That Shine: We are living in a visual world. Everything nowadays is about
photography and video. This is what grabs
our attention, even if the CEO is perfect. And you rank on the first page, you have excellent reviews. An amazing product, and an
absolutely fantastic offer. And yet the customer might
click on another listing. Why? Because of the thumbnail, your thumbnail
needs to stand out. It needs to shine. You can try to experiment with colorful or abstract
backgrounds. Don't hesitate to do
something daring, something out of the box so that you highlight
your product better. I did this actually by accident last year because I had
to remove the background. And I added just for fun, a very colorful and
abstract background. They had a great impact
on social media. So I decided to put them on EC2. And guess what? My views and clicks went up. No matter if you're selling digital products are
physical products. Try to create something
spectacular with your thumbnails. Think about it as
an album cover, film poster, or a book cover. I know they say, don't
judge a book by its cover, but really we do this nowadays, the visual impact is crucial
in our marketing strategies, in our branding, in
everything that we do. If you see film poster, that seems very, very boring, you'll probably not
watch it, right? Or if you see a book
cover which is so dull and doesn't say
anything to you. You will probably not buy it even though the
content may be amazing, mind-blowing, think
about your thumbnail as this perfect cover. The needs to shine. Don't worry about the rest
of the photos because sometimes customers prefer to see role and unedited photos because they seem more natural. They seem to show your
product in a very real light, which is what you need. You don't need to add it
to match your photos. Don't Photoshop them because
it's not about that. It's not a cover magazine. It's a real product which they want to buy the
thumbnail out there. You can go a little
bit crazy and make something really,
truly spectacular. Your thumbnail needs to shine. Scr rule always said at least five photos per
listing better term. At least five, don't add
just one or two photos. This also contributes to SEO and the overall rank
of your listing. Plus it may convince
your customer of the quality and magic
of your product. Ads. The human touch, someone
using your product, holding it next to it, being inspired by it, looking at it, wearing it. Remember that we are
selling a, feeling, an emotion, a dream, a solution to a problem. When we see someone who is
dealing with the same problem or who is either extremely
happy, comfortable, and enjoying the product or
using it in some amazing way, then we're more
likely to connect with your product
and your brand. If you're selling clothes, definitely have
someone wearing them. Don't use plastic
dummies or hangers. Don't let the product
laid down somewhere. Give it life. If you're selling digital
prints or art works. Of course you have the actual print that will
win the buyers heart. Landscape and abstracts work. You will have the colors and that dynamism that will
make him feel something. None of the less, you can
have some models being comfortable in their homes
with your print on the wall. It's best to have photos
that offer you more, that offer you that experience, that larger than
life experience. And to offer even more, we will use videos. Now, let's move on
to the next lesson. Are you ready? Let's go.
6. Use Videos: Use videos, add videos to each and
every one of your listings. Allows a 15 seconds
video with no sound. So you can use video
mockups from place a.net if you are selling
digital product or better yet, films and videos yourself. Nothing fancy. Grab your phone and when you do the photos for your product, film a video to
make this a habit. Videos capture the atmosphere, the texture, the shape, the colors, the feeling. Remember that we are very often selling a feeling and a dream. So this is a great
opportunity to bring the potential customer
with you, right? In the heart of your
brand and world, offer that larger
than life experience. Best to have the videos in
the format of the photos. Make them either in a square
format or slightly vertical, but not to vertical. You can also create a
slideshow from photos. It doesn't really matter as
long as you upload a video, ETC, also promotes the
listings that have videos. So it may get him more exposure just because you added a
video to your listing.
7. How To Write Selling Descriptions: In this lesson, we will talk about how to write
selling descriptions. And here are some tips, ideas, and rules in order to have
that fantastic description. Number one, talk about them, felt about how they will
feel your customers. Yes, you will feel so
comfortable in this. You will conquer the world. You will feel so
peaceful and calm. Looking at this
painting, at this print, this artwork, you will feel like being in the
heart of New York. Staring at this print, you will brighten up your whole, you'll brighten up
your favorite room. You will enliven your
studio or assets. Your house will turn into
unawareness of relaxation. Talk about them. Number two, the downside
of online shopping is that you cannot
really feel the product. Customers cannot
touch your product. They cannot smell it. They cannot actually
feel the texture. They can't really feel it. So you have the
power of words and the power of storytelling
to make them feel. This is not related only
to how they will feel, but how your product
actually feels. What's the texture, the smell, the size, the weight? Is it lightweight? Is it heavy? Imagine that you are
selling candles. Okay. How do you put into words the actual
smell of the canvas? Add all the essential
details so that they get the best picture possible. Try to describe it
so well in words that if they wouldn't see any photos of the
product or any videos, they will know exactly how
that product looks like. They will have in their mind the exact picture
of the product. They will know the size, the shape, the texture, smell, feeling that
your product offers. That's for sure a challenge. But with practice,
everything is possible. Number free. Never copy paste descriptions from other
sellers in your nation, not to even small
parts or disclosures, information that
is very similar. Never copy anything, right, in your own style. Find your voice. That will eventually become
the voice of your brand. Number four, right, short
descriptions because size, the first paragraph is
essential and it should include the most
important information when it comes to your product, add lots of keywords in the
first free for sentences. That is the paragraph
that needs to shine to make them
want your product, make them feel and
crave for your product. You want them to be so in
love with your product. From the first paragraph, they will click right away by after this first paragraph at your product details
leave plenty of spaces and paragraphs make
it very easy to read. Then add any disclosure or
any special information that you wish to highlight regarding shipping or custom orders, anything specific
to your shop or the product in particular
at the end and the call to action with linked to your store, to your homepage. You can also add other
similar listings. Don't add any external links
at only your Etsy links. Number five, be friendly. No one wants to read a very arrogant text or a very cold one
that somehow says, I don't really care if
you buy this or not. But at the same time, don't go to the other extreme. Do not beg. Don't be too humble,
way too humble. Find that perfect
balance between being friendly, get pressures. You know your value, you know that you put a lot
of work into your product, into your brand, into your marketing strategy,
into everything. You know what
you're offering and your customer is so
lucky to be there, to have found your
product, to enjoy it. And you are so happy to share
your passion with them, to share your passion
with the whole world on this absolutely amazing
platform, which is Etsy. You don't have to be too humble. You need to be friendly, open, yet, you know your value. Number six, a lot of time costumers will not read
the entire description. They might scan it. And that's why you have to highlight the most
important things. In short paragraphs. Use even some Caps Locks
from time to time, but don't overuse them
at the same time. There are customers who will
read every single word, tense your writing and
they will overanalyze it. And they will think
about it many, many, many times before
making the purchase, you need to write your
description for these customers, for the ones who will
read everything. So don't just throw some words there because you think that
any way no one will read it. Now, write your description with this type of customers in mind. Here's a bonus tip for you. Create a photo with all
the essential details. A size chart, for example, or any special offer that you have or just the
product details. Make it as a photo and add it at the
listings photography. This will help you have more pics there if you are
struggling with at least five. And this will help
your customers. For the ones who do not
read the description, I guarantee they will browse
through all of your photos. You can also make
this as a video. Use Canva or any other tool to share information visually.
8. How To Write a Killer About Section: In this lesson, we
will talk about how to write a killer
about Section. Telling your story
can be even more powerful than sharing
the products. Stories people often buy why you are doing it and
not what you are doing. So sharing your vision, mission, and y are essential in
building your brand and creating a powerful connection
with your customer. Your about section is the
perfect way to do this. I highly recommend using
all the five about pigs and adding one video to offer
them as much as possible. Most sellers here make
a crucial mistake. They talk only about their brand and not at
all about themselves. They craft that
standard About Us. Story where we offer
high-quality products. We care about our customers. We want to offer you the best, blah, blah, blah, blah,
which is all great. But add the personal touch. Your why that makes you special. Always keep in
mind that Eddie is above the seller and she loves to bring the seller
upfront to share our story, our unique journey, how to craft a fabulous About section. Start from the beginning. What made you open your
store in the first place? What was your drive? That initial creative spark, that special inspiration that made you begin your journey. Meet and greet. Friendly language like
welcome to my store. I'm Laura, and it is
such a pleasure to have you here makes wonders. Imagine that you are actually greeting your customer
into a physical shop. Even have to go the
extra mile and make it even more personal because
we lack that human touch. So you have to translate through this story all the emotions
that you wish to convey. And last, but not least, what makes you unique. Find that special feature, that special thing about
yourself and your brand. That makes you truly unique. In this way, you
will connect with your customer at a
totally different level.
9. How To Price Your Item: How to price your item? Pricing your item is one of the most essential
decisions you will make because it impacts your marketing strategy,
your profit margins, cash flow, basically every
aspect of your business, but do not get stuck here because you can change
your price at any time. So the best way is to launch your product at a price
that seems fair in line with your competition and test it with your clients
and your expenses. Don't get too greedy and
don't sell yourself short. To start with, add up all your costs involved in
production and marketing. And on top of that, add your profit margin. It sounds quite simple, right? But here comes the tricky part. After deducting the cost of your product from
the total revenue, you get your gross profit, which shouldn't be between
45% and up to 80 per cent of your total revenue. But you need to focus
on your net profit, which reflects the
amount of money you are left with after having
paid all your expenses. This is your real profit. This is tough to calculate
right from the start, especially if you are just launching your business
because there are so many unexpected expenses
that can come like rents, bills, gas, taxes,
electricity, internet, food, investments, all of
these count as expenses. Then let's not forget about the Etsy and bank commissions, VAT and corporate taxes. We will get to that in a minute. If you are selling
digital products, things are so much easier. You do not need to worry about shipping production or
anything from above. You should worry only about
marketing ads and your time. Calculate the amount
of hours that you spend on creating
the digital items, and think about
your hourly rate. Then see how much you would
like to spend on ads. And of course, you may have your house expenses
to what the things are easier if you work with
print on-demand companies, things are again,
pretty easy as they help you decide the best price. They show you exactly
what the costs are, what the shipping is, and you decide your profit. They help you out with pricing strategy,
making things easier. It gets complicated when
it comes physical items. For example, I think
about my employees, their salaries, how many hours and how many people
work on certain design, all the fabrics involved
and they're shipping costs from my suppliers
to my warehouse, rent and all the
bills and taxes, advertising and the actual
shipping of the product. Since I offer free shipping worldwide and I highly
recommend you do this, I squeeze a bit from my actual shipping costs in
the price of the product, people prefer to spend
more on an item as they see the value of the handmade work rather
than pay on shipping. Now, don't add the
entire shipping costs, especially if it is more than the actual cost
of the product. I play around the
idea that I pay 50% of the shipping costs from my own pocket
or net profit, and the customer pays
50 per cent from the price of the product
when it comes to shipping, each and every country
has different rates. So you need to study these
in your own location. Start with standard post at first because
it is the cheapest and it will allow you to offer free shipping or a very
low shipping rate. Then when you get more orders, contact DHL, FedEx, TNT, any of the big
shipping companies, and work out a contract with them where they offer
a low shipping rate. This is what I
have now with DHL. That is why I have the
freedom to pay that 50% from my own pocket, so to speak, and offer
worldwide free shipping. Another thing to keep
in mind, discount, Etsy not only
allows customers to filter out only the listings
with free shipping, but also the ones
that are on sale. Customers usually have these
two filters turned on. That is why it is so
important to offer at least a ten per cent of on all your
listings and free shipping. You have to keep
this in mind too, when you create your price, set up a prize that allows you to play with the discounts. You can also offer. Discounts are free
shipping when customers purchase two or three items
or of a certain value. This is also great and your listings will
show up in searches. You will definitely win
more if someone gets free items from you because
you save on shipping. So go for that campaign
in the beginning, settle for a lower
profit so that you get your momentum,
your customers, your excellent
reviews, and then you can launch new products
at higher prices. I highly recommend adding gift sets are bundles
of products to offer more items at a slightly lower price than if they have bought
them individually. This will for sure
help you win more. Last but not least, study your competition if
your final price is $100, but your competition sells almost the same
product with $50. Then we have a problem. Of course, you can't be
the production prices from China If your factory is in
Europe, for example, however, you can reduce your
production costs by finding collaborators or factories
that can do the work for you. This way, you will no
longer have employees, rents, and you get rid of
lots of taxes and bills. You need to see what works for you if this
is not an option, remember what we talked about, how to make your product
stand out, okay? Your price is double
than your competition, but you are selling a story. You are building a brand, you have a service
like no announce. To sum up, you need to think of the actual cost
of your product. The shipping, Etsy commissions, value-added tax and corporate
taxes in your country. All your business expenses including marketing,
finance, discounts, and allowing yourself
to play with discounts, your net profit. Let's say we want to launch
a hooded sweatshirt. I'm going to break down with you the cost of one of
my own designs. Let's figure out the cost
of production first. Fabrics, you need to figure out from the raw
material that you have, how many sweatshirts
you can make, and then you divide the
cost of the fabric. So let's say $10 for
one accessories, zippers, strings add another $5. Production time. How many people will work on this design and how many
hours do they need? Let's say $15. Packaging, $1, the
production cost will be $31. Let's say shipping is $18. So we add another $9 to the
price of the sweatshirt. We have now $40, ETC. Also has a commission
of five per cent plus three per cent when someone uses Etsy payments, but with renews, Etsy adds offsite
ads, subscriptions, and all the other
fees as he gets above 10% of my total
revenue every month. So feel free to add another $4. We're now at $44. Apart from this condition, PayPal or your bank has another
commission that may vary. So you can add another two
or $3 to your product. We are now at $46 VAT and your corporate tax is at a
total of about 30% in Europe, in my country, but this depends on your
country and location. We will add another $14. Our price is now $60. Let's add the gross
profit margin at 60%. So that's thirty-six
dollars out of 60 and the price
now goes up at $96. Allow yourself to
play with discounts. So add another 10, $15. The final price is $106, and you can round it up at 110. This is my own pricing strategy, but you may have
different taxes in your own country or
different production fees. So this is just a plan
to guide you and help you better understand
how to price your item, your business expenses,
or fixed costs. No matter how many
sweatshirts you are selling, you still have to pay the rent. So if this doesn't cover you, then either reduce your
business expenses, are bringing more
innovative designs or offers bundles of sweatshirts, customized shirts
at higher prices, graphic tees and more
stand out from the crowd and bring that uniqueness
into your brand and star. Now, let's talk about
production and delivery time. Are you ready? Let's go home.
10. Production & Delivery Time: Production and delivery time, I do different things. Very important to add. See, a lot of you
have asked me this. So here is the lesson
for you where we talk about what each
one of them means. Production time is the number of days that you need to design, create, and send your order. It's the exact time
from the moment the customer places the
order until you send it. While delivery time
is the number of days the shipping company needs to deliver the package
to your customer. Knowing when an item will arrive is a key factor in
the buyers decision. When a buyer will
see that an item is ready to be sent in 12 days, then they will be more
likely to buy it. When it comes to
customer orders, production time would probably
be longer than again, if you offer express shipping, then you limit the
overall waiting time. Nonetheless, you need
to be very honest and transparent with these days because they are crucial
to your Etsy success. I have noticed that
assay measures your progress and
it will not show your listings if you have many ongoing orders or if you
are late with your orders. As a matter of fact, I have seen messages that they send to other Etsy sellers, letting them know
that the shop is in vacation mode until they
managed to ship their orders. It also happens to me at
some point when I had so many ongoing
orders that eddie stopped showing my
listings in searches. Now, you can control the production time as
it's entirely up to you, but you cannot control the
delivery time as there is a third party involved
shipping company, that is my Etsy uses the
estimated delivery time. The more information
you provide, the better they will
calculate this for you. If you're using
express shipping, things are easier and
you can guarantee that they will quickly
deliver the package. If you are using
standards shipping, then things are more
complicated as they will not provide the best shipping, especially during busy
seasons and holidays. However, if you are
just starting out, go with the standard
shipping and in time when you have many, many orders and you'll
get there, I promise, contact the express
shipping companies and negotiate a
good deal for you. Each and every country has different rates and
different provider. So this is a research
that you need to do. It's also a matter of
where you are shipping. Are you sending your
products worldwide? Are only in your own country, only Europe, the United States. These things will change
your delivery time and your rates if you're shipping
company experiences delays, Etsy automatically
informs the customer. But for this, you need to choose a carrier from the list and
provide a tracking number. Having this number is great for both you and the
customer as they will keep an eye on
the package and they will know if there
is any Trumbull. And you can also see when
they receive it better yet, if you feel that
someone is impatient, always update him or
her of their order, let them know when
the package leaves. One is my arrive
and even ask them if everything is okay
once they receive it. Keep in mind that
communication is the key. And no matter the problem, if you follow this golden rule, you will always
win your customer.
11. Buyer Disputes and Cases: This is probably
the worst nightmare for every Etsy seller, worse than a bad review. It's an open case that
may harm your ranking, your place in the attic
community and may even end up in closing your store or
deactivating your account, but do not panic. It's not the end
of the world and everything can be resolved. First of all, you need
to know that it doesn't matter how many open cases
you had along the years, as long as you sold them all. And of course that they are not a huge percentage of
your total orders. Before taking this action, the unsatisfied
customer will first contact you via messages
or will request help. You have 48 hours to
reply to this request. And if you do not reply
or the customer is again, not satisfied with your answer, then they can open
a case against you. But no worries, one
case every once in a while happens and it
will not harm your store. Usually it happens if the customer doesn't
receive the package or they state that the
item is not as described. The worse cameras,
I believe that some of my open cases
where because if people could just wanted to refund and they
knew they could get it even if the product
was exactly as described. So they can find numerous tiny reasons to say that it is not
like in the photos. And they need to prove that
with their own photos. It's, it doesn't really analyze this and
doesn't even care. So you need to deal
with this on your own. You can communicate
with the customer through a common
box once a case is opened and try to figure out
a great solution for both. For example, one time I managed
to negotiate the refund, so I gave back less than they
paid not to the entire sum. They usually want a refund
and once you do that, the case closes automatically. It's best to not
play with these and not spend too much
time on these matters. Close the cases as
soon as possible. As long as one case is open, Etsy lowers your ranking. So do your best to
fix this right away to keep your ranking even
if it means losing money. One refund is way better than losing 50 customers
in that timeframe. Even if it's a matter
of a lost package, the refund is also the
best solution because it will take too much time for you to send
the package again, wait for the delivery. Maybe something
goes wrong again, so you lose the money twice. Don't bother with that and
just work on the refund. If you feel that
something is really nasty than gather
all the information you can about that order. Take screenshots of
all your communication of your products and shipping information
and proof of delivery and send it to Etsy, even if they are most of the
time on the buyer's side, they will not overlook any
harassment or injustice. Do not communicate with the customer via e-mail
or any other platform. Keep all the communication
on Etsy so that they also have proof of
the exchange made. Any other information
or communication that is not on Etsy will not be relevant if you do
not participate in the case and do not
take any action at all, only then Etsy can
suspend your account. So it's best to reply
to these righter way. Nonetheless, these are very
rare and it shouldn't worry, customers will always
contact you first via messages and you can solve
those issues right away. Two rules to follow, and two of my best practices, my best advice is make sure to send all your orders in time and even before
the due time, keep your customers happy. Five-star reviews boost the overall
ranking of your store. Provide excellent customer
service and be polite, don't be rude, be professional, and solve any issue
in a very gorgeous, fabulous, and lovely manner. You've gotten this.
12. Copyrights and Trademarks: Etsy is very sensitive
when it comes to copyrighted and
trademark items. So avoid using any
famous characters, film posters, logos,
brands, and so on. This is mostly available for digital items and print
on-demand in general. I have seen sharps taken down
because of these issues and usually it's not as itself
that notices the copyright. It's someone may be your
competitor who reports your listings if you wish to
use any famous character, always check out this
public domain list. Here you'll find lots of characters from
literature, films, comics, and even
folklore and mythology. Santa class, for example, is a character that
you can easily use. Dracula, Zorro,
Cinderella, Peter Pan, are all part of
the public domain. Avoid purchasing artworks from other designers or sellers, or even from other websites
because they are very often for personal use only, so you can't resell them. A great resource for
amazing artworks is Envato. You can purchase bundles of designs, elements, and artworks. The secret is to create new
designs using these elements. If you create a new image, then the authors consider
that your artwork is completely new and
it becomes your own. Of course, you also need to always pay your subscription
on the platform. If you stop using
Envato elements, then you cannot use
those elements. Furthermore, you
will find tons of amazing graphics,
stock footage, music. I use it all the time
and it's really amazing. You can then upload
any element in Canva and recreate a new design. Maybe add some texts, change the colors, add
more elements, and so on. The sky is the limit. If you don't want to
use graphic elements, you can simply create different
quotes or prints with sayings also in Canada
as void famous quotes. Or if you use them at
somewhere in the design, the name of the author. There are also tons
of trademarks, sayings like Born
to be Wild or live. Laugh, laugh. Why do you need to do is access the trademark electronic
search system, also known as test. Choose basic word mark, search, and search for
the terms that you wish. You'd see if the
phrase is already trademarked, who owns it? And if it is Still Life. Course, if you search
for it on Etsy, you'll find lots of
listings with this quote. And the company may
not look into these. Also, customers may not
know it is trademarks, so you can pass with
flying colours. However, I wouldn't advise it. What I recommend is creating similar quotes like
born to be a boss babe, or less, love. Repeat. Avoid keywords or
mentioning in the title, copyrighted or trademark names. You could say, for example, Nike inspired or
Chanel inspired. But best to avoid any keywords related to famous brands
is at his algorithm, may flag it anyway. When it comes to vintage items, you don't need to worry
about this as you may use the actual
name of the brand, like Chanel vintage bag. You'll see quite a
number of shops that use a lot of popular and famous
brands are characters. They are walking on thin ice, so don't get carried away. It's best to play it
safe and to avoid copyrighted and
trademark designs. The original, unique,
and authentic. Be yourself.
13. BONUS: The Importance of Trust: In this lesson, we will talk about the importance of trust, why branding is important, and why you need
to be trustworthy. Trust is the most
important feeling that you need to offer
to your customers. We need trust in all
our relationships. And your relationship with your customer is not
at all different. Your relationship
with your customer must be built on trust as well. You have to break
all boundaries. Travel for technology,
for the internet, for algorithms, and all the
mechanisms of e-commerce. And be aware that you dress a human being with another
person behind the screen. It's you. And we talked with them, just like I talk
with you right now. I talk to one person. And this is one of
the secrets to being comfortable in front
of the camera as well. This also makes you
feel that trust and grieve that trust is pyre
trust in your customer? I have a theory.
My theory is that the easiest thing is to sell. He will say that I'm
crazy maybe right now, but you can have
very edited photos. You can lie about your offer. You can lie about the pricing. You can promise more
than you actually offer. You can say anything. The customer doesn't
really see the product. The customer can't
touch the product, can't smell it, feel it. So it's all about you. It's all about the story
that you tell, your photos, your videos, and of course,
pricing and shipping. You know, you have heard about so many scammers around
the world where they don't even send any product people buy from them and they
don't send anything. They just share with them phony tracking numbers and that's hit customers
never received anything. So that's the easiest
part in the world. Anyone can sell anything. The hardest part is to build a strong relationship
with your customer. The hardest part is to
inspire trust and loyalty. This is branding. How do you do this? By being honest and transparent? Be honest about your
product, your process, your production time,
your delivery time, the shipping, your
prices about everything. If you cannot deliver
something in time, say it, don't overrate yourself. Don't brag if a customer has an event or a
special occasion, they need your product in time. And if you can't meet that
deadline, then say that. Tell them. I'm sorry. Do not
count on me now in this precise moment because
I can't meet this deadline, come back another time. And trust me, they will
appreciate this so greatly. And they will come back because
they already liked you. They already want product. They will like you even
more for this transparency, which is a very rare
thing nowadays. They will appreciate
it and guess what? They might even buy
the product anyway and just find something else
for their specialty fund. It's a win-win situation here. If you're not honest
and if you proceed with the sale that you
can't deliver in time, you will, of course,
get a bad review. You might even have an
open case with Etsy and we don't want that and they have all the rights to
ask for a refund. So you can't when
there is no point in proceeding with that sale, if you are transparent, you will always win. Trust me on this, honesty wins. Transparency wins. Especially in business, the only way to be
on top and two, when nowadays is to be honest, your brand and
branding strategy play a huge role nowadays in
winning your customers trust. Brand, trust creates loyalty. More than 50% of my monthly revenue comes
from returning customers. Brand trust is what gets
you through stormy weather, like we all experienced lately. And yet in these
challenging times, my brand flourished because I had my community
who had my back, my customers came back for more. When a customer is pleased
with your product, your customer service,
your whole universe, your values, and your mission, the impact that you're
trying to make in the world, they will return for more. Don't you just
love when you find a great restaurant
that has amazing food, great service, the prices, you will definitely
return that, right? It's the exact same thing
in the online world. There is no difference at all. You find a brand that
you love that treats you amazing and that is in
line with your values. What do you do? You go back for more again and
again and again and again, and you are now a
customer phone. Let's aim for that. How can you create brand trust? Shopping experience? Your aim is to offer an amazing shopping
experience from great customer service to a smooth buying
process and of course, a fast and safe user experience. If you have ever
created a website, you know that speed
is very important and you wouldn't want
too many pop-ups. You need the viewer to reach your content as
fast as possible. Luckily, at it provides
a very smooth experience and you know that they have the appropriate
level of security. So customers trust the platform. They know their data is safe. Etsy already build trust. And that's why they don't
think twice when it comes to suspending or
deactivating accounts. They are very careful with who they allowed to
sell on the platform, and this will help you greatly in winning customers trust. Brand's mission and vision, you are more likely
to connect to the brand that
shares your values. Brand promise is essential. It is your legacy. It basically tells
what you are doing, why and for whom. For example, Airbnb
promises to offer travelers and experience a sense of community and belonging. It's more than a commendation. It's living like a local. This is why this company experienced such a growth
in a very short time because of its brand promise,
content and products. Customer service,
user experience, mission, vision, and
values are all essential. But what would they be without a great product or service? The quality of a product
and service is what creates trust in most
of the customers. The reason they come back, no matter what you are selling, your content is extremely important and that
means fresh articles, videos, products or collections, newsletters, social
media posts, and so on. A great online presence with recently dated posts
means that you are there, present all the waves still in business through
working hard every day. So this makes you trustworthy
from the very beginning. Not to mention that
it's great for SEO. Engagement. From quickly answering
emails and messages to starting conversations on social media with
your followers, community and customers
being engaged with your audience is another
essential elements. According to an
Australian report, 63% of customers are more likely to trust the brand that creates social media
conversations. The authenticity
of the content is also a significant trust factor. Some customers also
appreciate when a brand answers their reviews, no matter if they
are good or bad, I wouldn't recommend
this on Etsy or not. Even if it's a bad review, it's best to contact
the customer and solve the problem in
a very lovely manner. As soon as you publicly reply, the customer can no
longer change the review. So it's best to work
something out before that. Branding. Last but not least, branding, everything from
your logo to photography, your story, yourself, your
team speaks volumes of your commitment to delivering the product or service
close to perfection. Well, being fully committed in the relationship
with your customers.
14. Learn Etsy from a Top 1% Seller: Practice Lesson: Welcome to our
interactive workshop, where we will add
one listing from scratch and let's choose
a digital item to see exactly how you
can create one without any graphic scales and
uploaded afterwards in Etsy, you'll see how to choose
the best tags for my favorite method and
how to set up everything. Are you ready? Let's begin. The easiest digital product
to create is a quote print, because all you need is a cool font and some
sparkles of inspiration. You don't need any
other graphic elements, illustration or photography, but be very careful
with copyrights and trademarks as Etsy is very sensitive when
it comes to these. Let's dive into ETC. As you can see, prints are
very popular and as usual, the personalized and custom
products are in high demand, being bestsellers are popular. Now, you could manually create a custom quote
for every customer, or you can let them
do this themselves through a magical
app called cordial. Cordial allows your customer to edit as they wish
a purchased item, it has the integration. So all your listings
will be sync, and once a customer
purchases your product, they will receive a link
to your digital items. This works best with
birthday invitations, anniversaries, baby
shower cards, and so on. Other popular quotes or the inspirational and
motivational ones. And a fantastic idea is
to offer sets of prints. These listings are
fantastic examples. The first is for digital
cranes and the second one for physical products where you have the advantage of offering
different sets of prints. Now, let's create
our own quote print. First of all, we will check
out if it's trademark, due to the trademark
electronic search system, choose basic word mark search
and typing good vibes only. Okay, So it's taken, Let's try live love, laugh. This is also taken, but what about live love? Repeat. There's only one result
which is slightly different. And anyway, it's dead. It's no longer available. So we can happily use this one. Now, let's create our
quote print with Canva. Choose to design
a poster to have that high-quality
printing aspect, you can check out a
template if you wish. Now you can play with the fonts, add effects to the text, change the size, move around
the elements, and so on. In two or three minutes, you are ready, downloaded, either in PDF format or PNG
in high-quality. Great. You can create so many
prints every single day. Remember that the ideal
selling point is to create sets and bundles
of prints in one listing, but we will create
a listing just for this quote for this video. Next, you have to create
your listing photography. Always add at least five photos. So visit place at dotnet
and get some mockups. Don't forget to add
the human touch. This will help you stand
out from the crowd. Upload the actual quote without any watermarks in the
listing photography, only the actual file
that they download after purchase has to
be without a watermark. Here you can create a video to, and it's really important to
add a video to your listing. It can also be a slideshow
that you create in Canvas. So it doesn't matter as
long as you have a video. Let's add a new listing
on Etsy at here, all your photos, the video, and we will start with our tags. You can use keyword tools
to find the best tags. But my favorite
method is getting the tags straight from
Etsy because there is no way that a third party app has a better
pulse than Etsy itself. Let's check out the
best-selling listings and see the tags that they have. Uc their tags at the bottom of the page at explore
related searches. And from here, we will
see their search results. We need a couple of
more general tags, but then we need to
focus and those that are not too specific and
not too general. Let's try positive prints over 80 thousand
results, perfect. Let's try positive posters over 30 thousand
results even better. What about inspirational poster? Almost Two 100 thousand results. It's a bit on the edge, but we need a more
general keyword. So let's go with that as well. Don't use keywords that have
over 200 thousand results. How else can we define or describe our product
is a quote print, motivational and inspirational
print poster, quote. But what about
positive affirmation? Over 30 thousand results, great. Or what about daily affirmation over 8 thousand
results even better. I see self-care cards here. So this gives me the idea
of a self-care quote. Let's try it. Over 11 thousand
results, perfect. We have some amazing
tags so far. And what's interesting
is that we have discovered some new
interesting listings. So let's check out their tax. Self-love art seems
a great tag and it is almost 40 thousand
results, fantastic. The key is to accurately
describe your product through these tags and find different ways of
naming your product. Many people use
only motivational, print, quote, poster, art, etc. They get stuck in
almost the same tags. But you need to have
various words to reach as many people as
possible and never use birthday gift or
gifts for her as you get lost in the millions
of search results. Great, So use the same strategy to find the rest of the tags, to add all 13 tags. So the final tags
are positive prints, positive posters,
inspirational poster, positive affirmation,
daily affirmation, self-care, quote, self-love,
art, live love, quote, printable typography,
typography, posters, typography, digital, love quote, Print above bed, Walmart. From these, we can
easily create our title, let's say positive quote
print with Liz love. Repeat, printable,
topography, quote, art. Basically, all you need to do is play with your tags
and rephrase them. Don't repeat the
exact same tags, but play with the words. Now, choose who
does the product. You can say either it is a finished product
made to order. If it's a custom print, choose your category,
digital prints. The moment you choose this, the attributes will
show up even if they say these are
optional, they are not. Nothing is optional for Etsy. It uses every detail to better show your listing to
the right audience. I mentioned it is a
digital product and now let's write our description. Always start with the
first three words from the title in a sentence, focus on the first paragraph, make it rich in keywords. Add feelings or a short story. Talk about your customer, how they would feel after
purchasing your product. Let's say positive quote, print with the uplifting
quote, live love, repeat to celebrate
the best moments in your life and always
remind yourself about the endless possibilities
this journey brings live life to the fullest and
love with all your heart. This typography print will
brighten up your days and it's also the perfect self-care
gift for all your loved ones. Edith Piaf was once asked in an interview what advice
you would give to a child, to a teenager, to a grown man, and woman, to an elder. And she replied to laugh
for each and everyone, love is our secret engine celebrated with our

how to download it. And then the listing to one of your stores sections,
add the price. If you'll have a set of prints, then you can go up to
$10 or more people low quantity to create that sense of urgency in the buyer's mind, if you will offer
a custom print, here is where you can turn on the personalization box
to ask for information. And finally, upload your file. Make sure that the final
file uploaded PNG or PDF, is in high resolution, at least 300 dots per inch, so that they get a very good
printing quality even if they scale up and print
on larger materials. Perfect. You are all set to go. If you have any questions, please let me know. I am here for you. Are you ready for more? Let's go.
