1. Introduction: Hello everyone and welcome to my class. In this class, we will talk about the topic of cunei do writing. As if part of our series of classes on the story structure. We will continue to learn how to create a story with three-act story structure. The three-act story structure is one of the most commonly used structures in the stories. Because of how easy and how simple this code is structured is. You may use it whether you have written a story before or not. And we have covered topics such as, first, we will learn what a three-act story structure is. Then we will look at Act Two, which is the setup of the story. Then we will look at two, which is the rising action of the story. And finally, we will look at Act three, which is the conclusion of the story. 2. What is Three Act Story Structure: Then you are trying to write a story. Actually, there isn't any right way or wrong way of doing it. There are so many possible ways to write a story and many different ways to structure it. And many people will write it in a very different and a very unique manner. And the history of the storytelling shows us that many different people have made many different, countless attempts in writing and describing a story. However, we can assure that some of the methods have been proven to be successful than others. These types of storytelling methods have proven itself again and again that they work in many different genres. Whether you agree or not. Every story is built upon logic. The logic is nothing but the structure itself. One of the easiest ways to write a story is using it three ways to restructure. Or it is also called as three-act story structure. In this type of structure, story is typically divided into three parts. These three parts, or also known as he asked. If he could define the three-act story structure. We can say that that three-act story structure divides the story into three friend and unique parts and sections. And each of the parts, and each of this section had a major turning point which moves the story forward towards the end. These major turning points are called as plot points. You can say that each plot point will move the story and the overall action of the story. Into the next part. We have to know what the plot points are in order to create a good story structure. And the three-act story structure will unfold the story slowly and steadily with some good wrist and turns over the course of three parts and make it leads to the conclusion that main character, we'll go through some different and unexpected situations. And in the story, he will come across major conflicts. And the protagonist of the story will realize what his goal is. And by the end of the story, all the conflict will be resolved and all the loose ends will be tied up. You can also say that the three-act story structure is similar to something of a, the beginning, the middle, and the end of his story. And in the most of the three-act story structure, the first act is quantified and the second act as 50 and the last and the third part, the last 25 per cent of the story. The first act introduces the characters of the story and a plot point, or the first major turning point of the story and moves the story forward to the second act. In the second act, we will see the rising action, which means that increasing the stakes for the protagonist. In this part of the story. The protagonist who will come across a conflict. He will also be tested, but ultimately even fail the test. And many people will start to doubt his ability to succeed. Now, move on to the third act of the story. In this part of the story, the protagonist will try very hard to achieve the success. And in this part, the climax will appear and our main protagonist will succeed against all odds. This is called the three-act story structure. And this is how you write it. 3. Act 1 Setup: At one requires you to create a setup. To create a setup, you must first introduce the reader to the key characters and the setting of the story. After that, the fundamental conflict or the main issue of the story that will push the story forward must be established. The next step is raise the stakes of this story. You must tell the readers that what is at stake. That either should know what the main character will lose if the major conflict is not resolved. After that, if you have any supporting characters, you must introduce them in this part as well. Alternatively, you might introduce subplots if you have any, because these subplots will become crucial in the later part of the story. Finally, the Act One must conclude with a hook, or it must end with a cliffhanger. That leaves the reader carving for the continuation of the story. Let us first discuss what it means to introduce the main characters and settings. This implies that in this section of the story, you establish your main characters and create some contexts for their setting. If you asked me how to introduce the main character and what to put in the introduction. Then the following tips may be helpful for you. First, you might add their physical features. After that. You can add their behavior. Then you may add their upbringing as well. And lastly, you can add any significant relationships that are relevant to the plot and the storyline. So after the introduction of the characters comes to the conflict of the story, here is a question for you. What does identifying the primary conflict or creating the main issue imply? So the answer is, in this section of the story, when you present the central issue or decentered conflict with the readers, it implies that it will carry the plot forward. To see whether the issue is resolved or not. You have to make sure that the conflict must be either an internal conflict or an external one. Meaning that the main character might have to face a challenge or he might have to face a difficulty within themselves, are outside the world. After creating the main issue of the story. Now, we have to set the stakes. So in this section of the story, you have to establish what is at risk. How will the conflict effect the main character? If the conflict is not resolved, you must explain to the reader what will happen to the main character and the universe. If the problem continues to exist. This will help you raise the stakes of the story and give the readers and also the main character of the story a feeling of urgency. After setting the stakes. Now, if you have any supporting characters and any subplots, we have to include them in the story. It indicates that when you introduce any supporting characters or any subplots to the story, they will play a crucial and an important role in the later part of the story. These supporting characters might not be the major characters. They may be the minor ones. However, they will be the one who will engage with the main character and interact with them and contribute to the main story and helps to move it forward. So if you are wondering why we should include a subplot to the story, yet is why we should include it. We should include it because subplots typically, if the story more depth and add more different tones and shades to it, that is why we include them in the story. The first act should often conclude with a hook or a cliffhanger. To keep the readers interested in the story. This is how you keep the reader carving for more of it. Ending it with a hook or a cliffhanger means that you should conclude the act within which incidentally odd, it should end with a discovery that affects the course of the plot and make the reader curious as to what happens next. The cliffhanger might be a surprise, or it can also be at risk that will make the reader think about it and make the reader to move forward and continue the story till the end. Story is like a puzzle. It is divided into different apps and different activities. It will also be divided into different events and different incidents that will all fit together when the puzzle is completed. The first app is the starting point of the puzzle. It is when you start putting the puzzle together, you should take special care with this section. Since it will guide us on how to construct the remaining puzzle. That way. Towards the end of the story, it will all make sense. And it will be a pleasant and it's thrilling puzzle to complete. All of the important characters are the main characters who will appear in the story are introduced to the readers from the beginning. Readers will learn what the characters pond, what they desire, and what their goal is. The readers also learned about any conflicts, are any issues and problems that may occur later on in the story. They will also learn about the setting of the story and the personalities and the behavior of the characters. Lastly, this part of the story, we'll tell the readers what kind of story it will be. Will it be if uneven or a romantic one? Or whether it will be more office, serious and meaningful one. Now, let me illustrate with an example. Say there is a young man called Sam. He wants to be a singer. He also wishes to win the annual singing competition. Now, the plot revolves around him, and it shows how he suffered and prepare the tirelessly in order to win the competition. You must first introduce Sam. In the setup of this story, you might introduce him by stating, Sam is a young man who loves to sing. He's a down to earth person and a friendly individual who is also attractive and tall. His personality is outgoing and he enjoys socializing as well. However, Sam has one drawback, which is he comes from a poor family. His financial situation is never good. He always had to hustle and work hard to make the ends meet. Despite all of his hardships and financial troubles. Sam has a clear goal in mind. That is, to become the best singer in the city and to take the first place in the annual see competition. The main conflict of the story is that he's not worthy enough, which is why he always suffers and works extremely hard to get money and does not have time to practice his singing. He also lags the funds to purchase the necessary singing tools and instruments. Therefore, he makes a lot of effort to win the year's biggest computation. You should set the stakes of the story by showing that if he's unable to win the competition, then he will not have a life he desires. Because the winner of this competition will receive a large amount of money. And this amount would be plenty enough to assist Sam and his family in getting a good life. Meanwhile, all of his friends and his family members are highly supportive of his dreams. They not only help him emotionally and mentally, but they also helped him financially by pulling out some money for him. In order to cover his expenses. He will get money from his friends and his family members. Then he will pay for his voice lessons, as well as his new outfits and musical instruments for his performance. When everything appears to be going well. Sam suffers a major setback in his life. Now, you should end the act one with a hook by revealing that Sam's family is buried in a huge debt. Additionally, they are facing a very real risk, losing all their own, including their house. At the same time, his friends began to slip away from him one-by-one. Considering that they too have their own goals, which is as a result, they are unable to continue supporting him financially. Despite all of these, Sammy's determined to win the competition so that he made, he established his life. Because he understands that winning the competition is his one nice chance to improve his life. This is how you ended up first act of the story. 4. Act 2 Rising Action: The second act is all about rising action. In this part of the story, you have to develop the main conflict and the main issue of the story. After that, create some new complications or knew of stack does in the path of the main character that he has to overcome after creating the hurdles in the path of the main character. Now, you have to build the tension of the story. After that, you have to introduce some new twist and new turns in the story. Lastly, you have to end the second act with him, mid point, turning point. Now, let's look at each point of the second act in a detailed manner with an example. The first point of the second act is that we have to develop the main conflict of the story. In order to develop the main conflict of the story, we have to create some hurdles, some complications, or some obstacles in the path of the main character. And if you want to create any hurdles in the path of the main character, you can give him some challenges. You can put him in a situation that he has to survive no matter what. You have to test him with some relationship related matters. It can be any complication or any hurdle. You just have to block the path of the main character and make the story more engaging and build some tension as well. Creating and building the tension is the second point of the second act. If you want to create tension in the story, all you have to do is show you our readers how the main character is trying to resolve the main conflict Are, you will have to show them how he's traveling very hard to resolve them min-conflict. He struggled and he's hardware is the main point which will create the tension in the story. And he struggled to overcome the obstacles in his way. He may be occasionally unsuccessful. However, he occasionally succeeds as well. This is how you build that tension in the story. After that, if you have any boost or any surprises in the story, this is where you introduce it. The direction of the story in order to keep the reader engaged in the story. And also make them guess what will happen next. If you want to introduce it, twist in this part of the story. You can do that by revealing something shocking about the character. Or you can also make a new plot development. Or you can create an unexpected event or an incident which will shock the readers. It can be disrupting the plans of the main character. Or it can also be raising the stakes even higher than before. You can connect this to the midpoint of the story, which is also the last point in the second act. In mid point can be a major event in the story or any major disclosure in the story which will take the story in the different direction. You can also make them meet point in the other manner as well. Such as forcing the main character to make a decision which will either put him in a bad spot, audit good spot, or you can make the supporting characters influenced the main character either in a good way or in a bad way. The course of the story, such as the main character and the supporting characters. It taken action against the main villain and set the stage for the final resolution of the story. The object or the event that takes us from act one. Act two is referred to as inciting incident. Let me explain this to you with an example. Now, consider yourself to be in the middle of a game. That opening of the game is similar to the starting of the story. And then in the middle of the game, something unexpected happens, Changes Everything. That unusual aspect is similar to the story's inciting incident. It is the element that moves the story onto the next part. And it will leave the reader guessing what will happen next. The second act, which is commonly called as the rising action, is sometimes the most lengthiest and the most complicated aspect of the story. It is the setting for the primary event and the conflict of the story. And it may be difficult for authors to keep the storyline moving forward while maintaining the tension and intrigue for the reader. Which is why the three-act story structure is important. Because that three-act story structure can help authors in organizing their work and avoiding becoming stuck in the middle. By adhering to this framework. A clear blueprint for the procreation of their story and resist becoming engrossed in the unnecessary plot developments. This second act is the most important element of the three-act story structure. It is when the protagonist attempt to resolve their issues or accomplish their objectives. It is where the majority of the stories, drama transpires. The happenings of the second act. Link to this board is set up and opening and we'll do the story's resolution or ending. Now, let us continue the story from before. In fact, we have to build the tension and raise the stakes. Now that competition is approaching, Sam is working hard to rehearse his singing and burning his heart and soul into it. You must now build the tension and complicate the situation even more. You can do this by showing that sam is receiving a phone call from his family as he prepares to enter his competition. In this conversation, his family reveals that they have been evicted from their house and have no other place to live. Sam is now in a difficult situation. He is trapped between his family duties and his desire to win the competition. When Sam is struggling between his ambition to win the competition and his responsibility is to provide for his family. He is in a minute, the shock and nice who think clearly. The harsh reality has left him with no mental capacity. Consider anything else? Suddenly, he remembers that he must win the competition in order to get the life he has always dreamed about. But he has it been taught in the back-office mind that constantly brings up the idea of his family being homeless. This line of thinking is so powerful that he is overwhelmed with emotion as he stands on the stage to sing his song. He can see his family on the road. And yet his mother's voice telling him to return home and big get off his family. However, he can also hear all the voices coming from the audience. The audience is cheering for him and wants him to win the competition. Now, Sam is in the internal conflict. He must have managed himself and survive. Sam then takes a deep breath and began singing his song. He puts his heart and passion, giving everything he has. And all of his feelings and emotions are being reflected through his song. He sings with such a passion that, that tears rolling down his cheeks only add to the emotion of his performance. This will leave an excellent impression on both the judges and the crowd. What the judges and the crowd are bored to tears as well. After delivering an outstanding performance on the stage, sam is excitedly awaiting the results of the competition. The second act should end with a dramatic surprise. You, you can create that surprised by showing that Sam will get to know that the competition is very fierce. And he will also get to know a person who is really talented singer and whose song is also very good. The shocking revelation is that one of the judges is that person's relative and the judge favors that individual or what Sam, Sam is quite worried now because email lose the reward money, Sam's anxiety is increasing significantly as the competition is approaching its. And this is how you write the second act up the story. 5. Act 3 Resolution: That third act of the story is called resolution. This part of the story is where the main conflict will start to get resolved. After that, you have left any loose ends. You have to tie them up. Following that, you have to conclude the story with a satisfying ending. Now, let us look at each point of this third act in a detailed manner with an example. In the third act, you have to start with resolving the main conflict. If you want to resolve the main conflict of the story, you can do it in many ways, such as you can resolve it through the actions of the main characters, or you can resolve it through an external event. It is nothing but a final confrontation between the main character and the main antagonist. And in this confrontation, the main character wins and brings the contract to an end. It is why is called as a resolution. Now, if you have any loose ends to tie up, this is the place to do it. Tying up the loose ends will help you provide the closure for the story. It will also leave the reader satisfied. Lastly, you have to conclude the story with a happy ending. It means that the readers will be satisfied and finish the story happily. You can do it by showing you a final image or a final moment of the main characters living a happy life and a very good life, it will leave a lasting impression on the reader. You can also sum up the overall theme of the story or MSH in the final part of the story. E.g. if the story is about friendship, then in the final moment, you can show that how important their friends are. How you can leave a message and conclude the story. Climax is the most thrilling and essential part of the story because it preserves all the primary tensions and disputes of the story. It is the ultimate interaction or confrontation that comes after the characters have mature in the story. It is the time in the story where the protagonist apply their talents and their strengths to set as a major conflict of the story. You must emphasize the importance of making this occasion as thrilling as possible. Because it is the movement. Daddy show off all the hardships of the characters and also show that character building has also paid off atlas. That is, solution is the concluding part of his story in which the actions of the climates are executed and the results of those actions I've shown. It allows the reader to witness what happened to the characters after they have repeated their major challenge. And how did living conditions have transformed as it is? Resolution allows the writer to demonstrate the value of the story and explain why it was important. It enables the reader to comprehend the meaning and the significance of the actions that happened during the whole story. Let's continue the story from before. The plot takes a dramatic turn. When we return to the third act, our main character, Sam, is concerned about formidable competitor in the competition who has an unfair advantage. You do relate to who is a judge. Intervened. Sam's worry Placed with excitement as he is named the winner. He's standing performance impressed both the audience and the judges, giving him the victory by a single vote. Sam knows that the prize money will change his life forever, which is why he celebrates in the relief of his heart own success. Then he will run off the stage, grab his phone, and call his mother to tell her the good news. Her mother is pleased and overjoyed after learning that her son has won the competition. Because she understands that the price money will return them to their previous lives. Although she's rather worried about what will happen after the money runs out. However, Sam will reassure his mother that everything will be okay since he now has the skills, the confidence, and the network to establish a new life, which will be a nice one for him and also for his family. He intends to use his newly found payments access to improve the lives of his family so that they would never have to worry about them money again. Sam will then pay off all of his family's. That's the prize money he receives from winning the competition. He will also purchase a beautiful and spacious home for the empty leaving. After months of anticipation, Sam has finally released his debut album, which has dropped that global chats. He is currently a successful and a well-known figure in the music industry. This is how you end the story and finish it happily.
