1. Square Wire Hoops: Hello. My name is Jonathan. They are majority design and shooter for the South. First Que Onda welcomes square by hoops feelings. First, simple silver hoop earrings have come in and out of fashion quite also for the few decades , but a really good staple hearing to know how to make on a lovely pair of earrings have in your collection. But although the design looks quite simple, actually, shaping the wire into that really nice part of a smooth circle can be a little bit tricky. So in this class, I'm going to show you techniques it. I used to make my appearance. We're going to start out with a length of square wire on. We're going to use a longer length of square while than what she's going to need to make a hoop earrings. And that's because my technique actually created a bit of waste at either end off the wire much. I'm going to show you how to turn some of that waste into another, have hearings as well. Just approved to use very little off Sylvanus. I used my work shop himself being waste. I'm going to use a hammer to texture my earrings. I used my favorite cost mean or Swiss star hammer with a straight head on. It gives me a lovely lines texture. You could use a different type of hammer if you like. But don't go for a hammer. That's going to give you two big design because this is only going on the Children me to square wife so you haven't got a great deal of room. You could also use texture punches. But again, I think small pattern on design punch with suit. This design best. I'm going to be hammering before I start shaping the wire on. That's for two reasons. First of all, it's easier to hammer a flat piece of wire than a shaped piece of wire. Especially as in this case, I want to have all three sides or three sides to be going to be showing on the outside of the hoop earrings. And secondly, if I shape the silver into parts of circle and then hammer it, that's so who is going to open up a little bit because of the action of hammering this cancer is part of the 52 Aaron's challenges. I set myself a 2017 to design and film tutorials for 52 different parents of hearings do not account for the hash time. 52 hearings on both Instagram and Facebook. If you'd like to see some hints about what's coming next, I have some photos behind the scenes. So if you're ready to get started, let's have a look of materials and the equipment that you're going to need to make the area .
2. Square Wire Hoops - materials: the's the material. So I'm going to need to make a hoop earings. I've got quite a nice riel off two millimetre square sterling silver wire here. I'm obviously not going to need to use the whole of this real. That would make a really big, heavy and very unwearable pair of earrings. But I'm going to go through with you how to work out the amount of why that you're going to need Andi. Then cut it off the whole real I'm actually going to use about 17 centimeters of the wire. And as I said, I'll show you how I got to that length. It's going to give me a nice big pair of hoop earrings on. I'm also going to have a little bit of silver left over, and I'm going to give you a couple of ideas about what you could use that leftover silver for to finish off the hoop earrings. I've got a pair of sewing service. Such fittings. Stud fittings are actually one of the few findings that I still buy Pre made a particularly like thes ones because they've got a local head to thumb or a little wider pad that allows theme soldering to be a little bit easier when you put everything together. I've also got a pair of sterling silver butterflies to put over the ends off this study fittings. What? She hold everything safely in your ear and finished the earrings off?
3. Square Wire Hoops - equipment: these the handles that we're going to need to make the square wire hoop earrings. I'm going to use the handle of one of my metal dome ing punches at a Mandrell to wrap the wire around to get into shape. But to help me prepare the wire, I need to know the diameter off that handle first. I'm going to use a pair of digital Verne years to measure across the diameter. But if you haven't got a pair of those, then a ruler will give you a good enough idea for the diameter for this project. I'm going to hammer the why before I wrap it around the Mandel Andi, I'm going to use my favorite cross peen or Swiss style hammer to give a lovely line texture to the wire. It's going to be easier to hammer the wire when it's flat, rather lengthen when it's coiled around the mandrell. And while some hammering the wire, I'm going to support it on the still bench block with the leather cushion underneath to help to keep the noise down. I've got a pair of nylon, your pliers, because they might be useful to smooth the wire out once I've pulled it out of the coil, the wire to make sure that there aren't any kinks in the wire. And I've got a night on hammer to help me to form the wire around the Mandrell, to hammer or tap it closer to the Mandrell if I need to. And, of course, both a nylon. Your plier on denial on Hammer are hard enough to help to form the wire, but they are still soft enough that they're not going to leave any marks on why I'm going to use the ruler on the Sharpie to help me measure out the amount of why that I'm going to need. And I'm going to cut through the wire using jewelers sore. I'm going to support the silver on the bench. Peck on the apron underneath will catch the dust so that even the dust and the type it's a scrap could go in the scrap pot recycling to later date. The last tour shown here is a flat needle file. I'm going to use that to smooth and neat in up the ends off square wire offs. They've been cut. This is a soldering project, so that's also have a look at the soldier equipment that we're going to need to complete the earrings. Yeah,
4. Square Wire Hoops - soldering equipment: thing is the soldier equipment that I use for all of my smaller projects, such as earrings and sore pendants, everything sitting on a couple of slate tiles, a heatproof surface to help protect my desk on my work sits on a couple of soldering bricks , soldering blocks, while some heating it up. One of these soldering bricks is made of a softer material than the others. Because it's softer, it's picked up some dips and some cracks in. It says it's being used over the years, and these could be very useful for supporting work that isn't completely flat. The charcoal block is there because I melt small piece of scrap on top of that on. Do they form nice of my balls as I am used to decorate my projects when I need to pick up my work or to support it whilst I'm soldering? I used reverse action tweezers that you can see here and have also got a pair on a stand through 1/3 hand, and it's there when I need 12 on extra hands to help me out. The blue handled stick is a soldier pick on and that I used to push soldier move it about to make sure it it's exactly what I wanted to be. Soldier usually comes in strips or sticks. Andi, I've got three different melting temperatures here that I using combination for different projects. The soldier gets cut into small pieces or Palin's you ting. The red handles snips as I keep those little pieces in the labeled boxes that you can see do. Make sure that you label your boxes because once a soldier is cut up, you won't be hard to tell which is which. Melting temperature. My curl over the ends off the sticks of solder start. I can't tell which melting temperature they are. The more cold over they are, they're higher. The mountain temperature, bright yellow liquid is a flux. Solder won't actually flow out through the joining unless you use a flux with it. Andi, the paintbrushes. What? I used to apply the flux to the joints in my work. Small projects like hearings only need a small blowtorch, and I've got two different makes of those here. Both of them are easy to refill with the gas that comes in aerosol cans since the same type of gas, butane gas that you use to reform cigarette lighter, bigger projects such as Bangles and our dependence, you're going to need a bigger torch. Otherwise, you're not going to be able to get the metal up to the soldier in temperature that you need showing the big torch on this small torch next to each other. For comparison, you can buy specialist doers torture's with separate gas canisters. But for beginners, a D. I y plumber's torch is using more affordable on dfars, more easily found just in any D I y store. Do Make sure, though, that you get yourself igniting torch. It's a lot safer. The torch itself is the black section with the handle and the red ignition button that screwed onto the gas canister. Once gas canisters empty and you will be able to tell because your flame will start to get very graceful. Then it's time to screw in a new gas canister. And in some areas you can recycle the old ones at the back of a picture. You can see a slow cooker that Scots a very mild acid solution called safety pickle. In it. When you heat silver up, the surface becomes not darker and dirtier looking that some of the capo in the study silver reacting with the heat and auction flame to forward cause copper oxides on the safety pickle cleans that copper oxides up. Before you put your work in the safety pickle, it needs to be cooled down or quenched in a pot of water. Andi, you need to put your work in and out of the safety people with brass or plastic tweezers. Not the stainless steel ones that I showed you before and last, but definitely not least our have safety glasses. You've only got one pair of eyes. Look after them carefully.
5. Square Wire Hoops - preparing the wire: thing is what I'm going to use a z a. Mandel for wrapping the square wire around its A metal punch for my doping punch set on bond. The head of the punch I know is 28 millimeters in diameter. But to help me work, help Motor Square while this I need, I want to measure across the diameter of the handle apart so much he's my angel. I'm going to use my destroy burn years for that you could use a ruler and hold it across on . That would give you a a decent enough idea for this project. But as I got these and use them, Andi, if you want to see that the camera is just shy of 22 millimeters in diameter, who go so I'm going to take that as 22 millimeters now it's actually the circumference that first in put it. This it doesn't roll away on the circumference is going to help me to work out the amount of why this I'm going to need. No, I'm not going to be making hopes that are the full circumference. The full way around here, I'm going to be making hoops that use up about 3/4 off the circumference off the handle of the punch of the Manjural. But what I'm going to do is wrap square wire around the Mandrell, and I'm going to call it round a couple of times. Andi, then cut through the coil as that's the way that's going to help me get the best shape to the ear rings. I'm going to remind you of the calculation that you need at the end of this section of video class, but to run through it with you now, the conference is pi times the diameter, so multiplying. 22 millimeters by pike Use just a fraction under 70 millimeters. I'm going to work with Children half times the diameter of the moon door. It's off the square wire, so 2.5 times 70 is 175. Some of the cut off engine 75 millimeters of this square wire. Now the reason it's on cutting off more than I need is that working with a longer piece of white will allow me to wrap it up as I can around this Mandel they find, which will work with too short lengths of square wire. Both culture is that saint. That's that right link that I needed for the hoop earings. I wouldn't be able to shape them neatly around here. I wouldn't be out to get the ends lying flat and cold arose. The Manjural That's fine. So that's That's the look you're going for. But it's not. Look, that I want what I want. My hoop hearing, so look like is a section of a nice, smooth circle. So to do that, I need to work with a longer piece and pull it around the Mandrell. That is obviously going to mean I'm going to have some waste leftover about said. I'm going to run through a couple of ideas of things that you could do with that waist. So what I'm going to do now find move, are these? It sounds the way. Can't you see nine on your pliers just to gently pull this out. Now, the same about working with square wire is that you do need to treat it quite gently you in that you don't want to try and shape it too quickly. If you try and shape it too quickly, it will twist all wire twists round. Why twists as you are bending it, incurring it, but because it because it is round because it hasn't got any corners to it. You can't see the twist. Swear why has also got four very distinct corners. So as it twists around, you will see the twist very, very clearly. So I'm going to I've smooth it out. Nice a Meet Lee going to get the lid off the Sharpie on and good to mark out e get 175 millimeters so that seem out of once I'm going to cut out. And to do that now, just pull that piece of wife with further after the way. Andi, I'm going to cut it. Support it on the bench. Pike. I can get my Julius. So for the cutout section here, oh, get stances. - That's why it's useful having a club. Johnny catches bits and pieces for you so that you see amount of words. So I'm going to be working with that's going to form a nice pair of hoop earrings, I said a little bit left over that we might be educational project talk as well
6. Square Wire Hoops - texturing: I set in silver wire up on the still bench block because I'm going to be hammering much, going to hammer three sites off the square wire. So the text you will be seen from the front That's obviously going to curl round and hoop on DFO from the two sites on. And that's the main reason why I'm hammering it now rather than hammering it after I've wrapped it around the Mandrell, because it's going to be easier to get access to everything. So I've got my Swiss style. Hammer is going to give a lovely lines texture. Andi, I've got the steel bench Brock supported on another cushion to cup. Keep the noise down on the bed because it will be quite a bit of having to going to be doing so. Let's get started just shocking by letting the texture catch the light that, uh, I've bean very even with the texture. My since I was just working a short distance of time in the centre maitresse time. Andi, I was building up a textual quite lightly. No big wax with the hammer that's not necessary. And if you've watched any of the other classes, time for done using this hammer. You heard me already talked about the facts that metal moves at right angles to the head of the hammer. So if it's around, Hammer right angles is in every direction. Is not going to be much movement in the silver but right angles to the head of this summer service in that direction. So if you hammer the silver, grows slightly in that direction off really big hammer Bahama hit saw quite a lot that's going to grow even Mawr. The double over drop hearings class is an example of when I've actually used this deliberately to lengthen out a piece of silver. So just to sort of interest show you that that has that hasn't growing very much as any grown by about 2.5, maybe three millimeters. Um, if certified use harder Hammer hits or five hammered a lot more than it would grow up more , and it might grow a little bit more as I hammer the sites. So I'll go speed up the film a little bit more now, so you don't have to watch that in real time hammering the two sides because you re seeing me hammering the front Andre. Then we'll have a look up. Watch. It all looks like when it's all being textured. Okay, Just checking that. Happy with detection or three sites? Um, that's aside, I just finished the opposite side. I'm just going to go and put a few more hammer marks because while supping humming on that side, that site their second Saturday has been in contact with the hard surface of the steel on and that can get a hammer out. Smooth out a few of the mark center. Thank you. Go back in. Not as much likely before, just touching it up a little bit. There you go. So happy with that has been trust again to see how much it's grown. Oops. You have it lined up with the chop. Specious, growing about five millimeters with all that hammering that I did, Onda. Although I'm not going to be using the very ends for the hoop. Earings are still checks to them now because I'm up here to get there, said about yet another project out of the wire at the ends. So this wire now feels very springy. There is no way I'm going to be able to wrap it license smoothly and neatly around that Mandel, because over the hammering side, Deng has work, hardened it. So what I'm going to need to do now is a Neil the wire to soften it so that I can work with it again. Andi. Then after that, we'll be able to actually start shaping for who earrings.
7. Square Wire Hoops - annealing: I thought the silver roves the soldering table because I now need to kneel it. Everything that you do to metal, whether it's even just pulling it through your fingers and certainly hammering it is going to work hard in it. It's going to disorganize the structure of the molecules inside the silver so they can no longer slip neatly and smoothly past each other. So a kneeling is he each treating. So we're going to be heating a silver up to a lower temperatures and soldering so that the structure becomes more organized again and the metal could be worked. I've put some Sharpie marks on here because one of the things that you can use as an indicator as to whether you've got to the right temperature is that Sharpie mark will be burnt off by the time you get to the needing temperature. So it's burnt toffee whole held issue that temperature for a few seconds more. It's being in the field now to finish off the kneeling process, you have to quench the silver if you don't, it's not fully a kneeled, So just about in the corner of the shot up here in the top right hand corner. You can see the corner of my highly technical quench pot ice cream tub with the cold water inside it. So the Sooners, I've heated this up. I'm going to let the readiness in silver the red color disappear. It would have done that by the time I turned the talk show from put it down and then I'm going to quench it. Okay, so a small torch, they're going to be fine for this project with a long piece of metal like this, I start up at one end. I have encouraged the heat down with Personally, I find that that heat so he totally up more evenly. I remember this is the hottest past, the flames. So that's a bit. I've got my silver just just in front of glucose. You can see the silver changing color a little bit. It's going a bit dirtier stuff. You see that at the top here that some of the capo at the surface of the sterling silver turning into copper oxides because of heat option in the frame. Now mind you have to deal with that in a moment. The silver is starting to get a bit of a reddish change. Andi, those marks have almost being burned. We're going to be about burnt off now, so just take the flame up and down. Maybe one more time Now. Now this piece of wire is too low. She or in once put one end in than the other. That's the piece of silver now cooled down. Andi. Yes, it's definitely not more malleable. It doesn't feel it's springy, so thes cop rock sites are going to clean off by putting the silver in my pickle pot, which is a so cooker with sex typical inside it. That's gonna create off the copper oxides under leave of silver. Nice and clean, says I continue working with it.
8. Square Wire Hoops - coiling the wire: the lengths of why is now nicely cleaned up Just second house the pickle and give me to rinse. So the next thing is we need to do is wrap it around the Mandrell. Now it's not going to do is hold it quite firmly up against the manned with my some on venting me to bend it around quite slowly. Remember, try saying about square wire twisting us you, uh, if you bend it, you're not going to be hard to eliminate the twist completely, but going to try minimize it so you can see I'm his spirit. Here is, uh, trying to hold everything so it doesn't slip, so try to bend it round. Well, I sleep. We go starting to call around. Now it might notice that it's not really tight up against the Mandrell. That's because this one is quite thick. If it was thin a wire, then it would be easier to bend it round. You'll be more malleable because it's quite sick. The Mandrell is actually Mawr Ave. Something to brace it around on day, I'm going to try and get it in a little bit tighter. The national moment with nylon hammer that will allow me to mitt plate the mark the wire without actually marking it. But that's as much as I could do by hand. So I'm going to do is get the leather cushion. So got something to brace this against? Put the sun, Denise The leather cushion. So that's I can t to use a night on your hammer Suspenders and French as much as I can. I have urgent shape a little bit more We work just on this section here, Push that scene a little bit more Change I around the spiral. Okay, so vented up with a nice coil you can see, especially if you have a look at it from from this angle. This section here is not sitting in the nice curve. Andi, this part here is better, but it's still not sitting in the nice curve there. So those to end pieces are definitely going to be sacrificed. So might be turned into something else. So but that leaves us was still slightly more than two complete coils that going to be turned into those two hoop earrings. So what I'm going to do in the next section of the class is show you where I'm going to cut aunt, how I'm going to end up with those to whom shapes
9. Square Wire Hoops - sawing the hoops: So this is the coil that we formed by wrapping around the mantle as you can see ventures up . So you so before, with a coiled little bit bigger in the Mandrell, because the thicker wiser, which spring here Still, even though it's been a kneeled when you're trying t wrap it around, a 30 gauge wire would be hard to get a fabric tighter to the Mandrell. But by using my long hammer as well, still be hard to get into a really nice around shape. No us again, I've said already. The either end of the wire has to be sacrificed, Onder say Sacrifice. It's always going to be end up being used for something else. But it can be included in this particular project because the very ends it is almost impossible to get them nine nicely in the coil, the code of the coil. Because they are the very ends, it's not so easy to pull them around and breaks them up against the mantle. So what's up? Done with the Sharpie? Is George allying? Oh, here. So that's it avoids this section here that wasn't her so nicely and I'm going to do now is just cut all the way through that coil. I'm going to do that. We see the jeweler's saw with everything supported as usual on the bench. Pick the down stroke. That cuts, since, as usual, showed couple upstroke has put a notch in the wire so that when you do start sawing down once, the blame doesn't slip. Does this thing I want to mention about where I positioned everything? I've got the coil quite close to the end of this rough triangle that's been cut into my wooden bench. Bench paid, Um, if I had it here as the bleed springs through because it does go through quite quickly through that last little bit of the wire, it could spring forward Andi. Either catch my finger or damage the other side of the wire. Having it up here means the blade will only be able to go up as far as the end of that triangle. So thanks groups. Plays got stuck. Who point to tell you actually, probably never does get stuck and pick up the whole piece. Just dangle by the blade, Andi. Then hopefully you'll be able to continue on the blade, frees itself from where It's being stuff strong forward, but it couldn't found forward Samity to my finger or the silver. So we've got one last complete coil. We've got another call here, but it's got still this section here, the other end there, the riddle. End of the wire that wasn't in that smooth curve with what little bit left over here. So we're going to leave those now. I don't want to use the whole of this. So who for the hoop hearings? I want to use about 3/4 of it, certainly more than 3/4. You can either use a search of template to help you work out exactly how much you need, but I'm actually going to just by eye. So IHS as the cut that's 3/4 and so slightly in for 3/4. I'm going to cut it there, so that's my next job to cut through that hoop. This won't take as long to cut through around cutting through both coils, because I'm not cutting through such a thick piece of silver once get oh, he said. So now that that one's cut, I'm going to use that one as a guide as to where to cut the second. Andi, I've lined it up, but the nice set end here says I'm going to end up cutting off the piece of wire that isn't , uh, curved. Over was nicely. It's again you shell p just to mark. Why won't cut these back on my sharpies isn't dry out. Would you cut through this one as well? Okay, so definitely looking. A lot more like have hoop earrings now, so I need to clean up the ends a little bit more tidying up before I solder the fittings on that.
10. Square Wire Hoops - filing: that long, straight, hammered piece of wire is definitely looking a lot more like a a pair of of hoop earrings now. So what I'm going to do now is use the needle file two knee chin up both ends of the wire so that they are, um, virtually fat, virtually flat, but rounded a little bit at the edges so that they feel comfortable. So it's going to go across. First of all, this smooth term Nietzscheans thumb up removes the marks, the harsh remarks left by the sore. So even just doing that it looks, but you can see the difference. That's a light catches it if I move it around. But this one looks a lot smoother in this one already, and that was less sediment of filing. - So what's I'm happy with it being smooth and flat across the top, just going to work a little bit on the edges. So I've just been holding the file about 45 degrees yet there, uh, on this side, not quite so easy on the inside. Toehold defiance for MoveOn angle. Get in there. But that end now feels nice and smooth. So what she is saying to this one Here are the two on that hearing as well. Okay, then that is, or four ends of the hearings. Nice and smooth. Abuse my fingers as much as my eyes to make sure that smooth and comfortable. So the next thing to do is to solder those stud fittings onto one end of each hearing so that they can actually be warned.
11. Square Wire Hoops - soldering: I bought the earrings over to the soldering station, so it's like in soldier the stud fittings on to them. I'm going to soldier. Start fitting onto that end of the hearing just there. As you can see, I set it up, held in her reverse action tweezers that are lying on a couple of soldering bricks. So it's nicely supported. It's held Priest Abeley so that it's not going to what what about, as I hold this start fitting in place where things being heat it, But there is a drawback to it being held this way. 1st 3 The reverse action tweezers are in contact quite a bit of the silver, and they are going to do all the heat away from the silver. They're going to slow down the silver, getting up to solving temperature that we need. They are a heat sink, their drawing the heat away. And secondly, the fact that the silver is sitting up like this instead of flat on a fire broke or solving brick means that it is a far easier for it to give out the heat again for the heat to dissipate out of silver. So for those two reasons. We need to do a couple things to help this. See silver to heat up to solving temperature. The 1st 1 is that I've got another soldering brick at the back here. We'll move that a little bit closer, actually. So formed a bit of a killing here of what? A barrier. So this is going to reflect the heat back onto the silver to help to compensate for the heat sink down here on. The second thing is that I'm going to be using the bigger of my to solving blowtorches to heat it up to soldering temperature. The small blowtorch was absolutely fine when I was a kneeling on did. In fact, I am ranch going to use it for the first bit off this soldering job. I'm going to use it for applying soldier onto the stud fitting. But if I tried to use a small blow torch to heat up this piece of silver here to get everything that would right up to the right temperature, you be watching for a very long time, I might not even get up to temperature. So it is going to need a bigger blow tour. So if you've only got a small blowtorch, then you might actually want to make either a size smaller pair of earrings or use a sina gator wire. So you've got less metal to heat up, and then you probably would be able to get away with the using of the smaller boat. All I've got the first of thes start fittings in another pair of our section. Tweezers on. I've got a couple of pairs, a couple pieces rather off. Easy soldier lined up for the fabrics. One just there. Andi. Another one just that might just about be able to see them. They do blend in very well with solving brick. What I'm going to do is you just one of these pieces. So over at the moment, I'm going to melt it onto the bottom off this stuff fitting so that the soldiers exactly where I want it to be, for when I then put it on like so, so going to dip this And the flux is just up the top here. As I said, I'm going to use the smoke. Small blowtorch. So from the bottom, some heating up tweet is a bit heating up silver. We go that's a soldier melted into place. That's all. One piece there. So I said, I'm gonna hold it like so I'm going to do, actually, because I want it over here so that I can more easily hoat the stuff fitting in place. But it's going to tip over like that at the moment. So make sure this is cool enough to touch. Just going to maybe to cross what? So it's a bit better. Easier for me to hold everything in place. So I'm going to use a set. The bigger blowtorch see the nozzle of it there. I'm going to use that to heat up around. I'm going to heat up the tweezers over bitters. Well, there goes Rejoin heat away from silver until they are quite happy with they're temperate. Show them went so went to get up to be nice and warm as well. So as well, give them a bit of heat. Speed things up a bit. Once I got things almost the right temperature. I'm going to come along, Andi, hold the start fitting in place. Actually, I I'm going to turn this up. Yeah, the way. No special. What's little bit best IIs worth taking the time just to make sure that you are happy with how everything is set up before you start heating it up. Okay, so I'm happy with that. So if we go okay, everything is now one piece. Make sure make doubly certain. With young, there is too court candle so that we have the first hearing that will go in the quench bots . Andi Then in the pickle pot. I'm also going to quench the tweezers because I want to use those to hold second hearing as well as you can hear from that sizzle. Everything had got nice and hot. So with second hearing here, Andi, and to hold it in the same way same pep tweeze is Has that worked rather well. It still took a while to heat up that hearing, even with the bigger blowtorch. So that's what such up on and hold the second start fitting a piece of soldiers still there sack the same as before going to melt this soldier onto the endless surfacing. So that assumes the soldiers mounted onto the end is fine too. Then stop. I don't need to keep going because the soldier would then melt further and further into the silver wind up away from the end of silver. And that's not what we wanted to pay so again. And heat the tweezers going to heat around the hearing as well. Going to do that first without the start fitting in place. Because otherwise I'll be holding. Now it's there a long time, Andi. Also, I'd increase the chance of it melting. Okay, we can definitely several things in one piece because I can't even lift those tweets is up . Um, and we go right. So again, that needs to going to quench pot, even the tweeters, because I could feel the heat coming off those on into the pickle to clean up on. Then both of the earrings will be ready for polishing.
12. Square Wire Hoops - polishing: way. Go to hoop Earings are being cleaned up in the pickle. Andi, I've given them a bit of a rink. Sue, get residue of pickle off them. They're now going to go in my tumble polisher to Well, we pushed Zola. Publisher has got some soapy watering here. Andi. Lots of bits off stone still shot on this will tumble or roach rotate over and over and over again on top of the machine. Here on bits shot will hit the silver rate gently hundreds of times to polish it up nicely . So goes in there. We'd goes on nice and tight that sits on the top Underway begin. So the tumbler has bean going now for about 50 minutes, which, with this nice expressed one, is plenty of time. Thank Let's have a look. See, we find one shiny hearing Hope for the other ones Still in here hasn't hidden to nice and shiny who hearings. So I'm going Teoh, drive these. Take a couple of photos to show them off
13. Square Wire Hoops - final thoughts: if you being following through the instructions with me is we've been going through the videos. Then you should now ended up with a lovely classic pair the Sunni silver hoop earrings, a beautiful design that is perfect for any occasion onto with any outfit, from wearing jeans to dressing up with black dress, I have used square Wife, my earrings. I think it gives us a bit of a contemporary look, but you can use any shape of why you, like this would work with rectangular weir with round wire, always over why they could be a great way of using up peace is the style pop stuff day before Making a bangle, for example, however, do make sure that you do use a fairly heavy gauge of why. Because you want the hoops to horse their shape as you seen. I use two millimeters square while that's about 12 gauge of wire, and that's a really good sickness for holding its shape for this side, who I've actually ended up with a pair of hoop earrings that haven't outside diameter, about three centimeters. You can, of course, make a smaller pair of earrings, and if you do that then you can actually use a small gauge of wire of seven gauge wire. But with this size, who bigger hoops? You do need a good sick wire. I hope that you've enjoyed the clouds every great to people review to help other students. Andi was also lovely to see some photos of the hearings that you make. See what variations you can come up with on this classic design? Remember to download the equipment list. And if you have any questions, please do Elsa in the class discussions, I hope to see you in some of my other classes. But in the meantime, thank you for watching.
14. Square Wire Hoops - bonus earrings: the's air three pieces off square silver wire that are left over from cutting the coils I formed earlier in the class ongoing. Cutting it into the two hoop earrings on that one doesn't really have much of a curve, but these two don't match up too badly. They really bean textured, since you've been a bit of a curve, so we shame for them to go to waste. As you can see, one is a longer than the other severally march with a Sharpie the bitch that needs to be trimmed off. So going to cut that bit off as, uh, the first step of making a little start hearings, whips. All right, that's the problem with working with such more things they do for But the April underneath the French Pake, it was very good at catching them so couple strokes puts to get started and keeping Silva supported from the bench, Pake cut their success off. Thank you. They say it is a very tiny piece, like I cut off. It was taken a long time to file through that, so that will end up in scrap pots. Put Russian the apron now, but now I've got to pieces of wire. That's are a better much so So I'm going to do now is file the ends of each of them to me, to them up, and you see Square Needle file to do that. So this is both removing the unsightly, harsher marks left by the Thewlis so on, making them more comfortable to feel. So see ends meet, end up again, just like with hoop earings just going to sweep across the corners a little bit to remove a little bit of sharpness, says one. Done three more to do. Trickiest thing with this is holding onto the wire. It's so small. - Go ! So that's the start of a pair of stud earrings. What I'm going to do now is take the most of socialization and soldiers of stuff it is. Um, I thought Michael Peters a square. Why was the Soviets station now? Andi? I put a doctor with a Sharpie to remind me where I want stuck fittings to go. But the first such fitting in over section tweezers. I got peace vz sorted there on another one there, so just like before, and should tip the suffocating in the flux. Hold it against the soldier melt. So grand place it goes now, unlike the hoop earings thes of growth Small pieces of silver Andi, they're not being Hold my tweezers So small black Torchwood do the York nicely We're gonna quit his such That's the 1st 1 put seconds So fitting in the flux on again that was soldier in place Here we go So out of the scrap left over from the larger project But hair off earrings are the dirty ones at the moment, so those will be put in quench particle down and pick apart to clean up And then I will punish them and show them to you again. All nice and clean and shiny. So there we have one pair of sunny silver hoop earrings on one pair of bones stud earrings using this silver while leftover from making the hoops and apart from little piece of silver that I had to trim off the bottom of one of the studs. That piece of silver is all the scrap that we've got left over from that 17 half centimeter length of wire that we started with. And even that piece of wire will get recycled into something else.
