1. Introduction to 2D to 3D Home Design: from two D to three. Using sketch up 2020 we will create a three D model from A to D. Step by step. We will build our model from start to finish, learn time saving tips for doing things like creating walls, editing materials, adding roofs, adding vegetation and war. And as a bonus lecture, we will import our model into Lumi on. We will create stunning photo realistic renderings. Are you ready to begin and rolling this course today and let's start sketching. 2. Importing CAD files: in this course, we're going to take a plan from Auto cad in to Deform and bring it into sketch up and make it into a three D model. Now this plan right here has a lot of four plan and elevation. I'm going to bring all these into schedule and use it as a reference to build our model. Now, don't worry if you're not using our sketch up file that has this imported in it, I will also show you how to do this from scratch in sketch up. So let's go ahead and bring this file into sketch up now. Now let's go ahead and open up. Sketch up 2020. Go ahead and left click twice, and once we have our welcome screen here, we want to select the architectural inches template. So go ahead and click on that. Now that we have our file, open up. Let's open up a few tool bars that will help us build our model. First, let's go to view tool bars, and we want to select the large tool set going to hate clues and click and drag your mouse , and you conduct this on either side of your window. Now the next thing we want to do is let's open up our default trey under window default tray and click on show. Trey. You also may want to make sure you have all these selections selected as well. Now was import our cat vile to do that. Let's go to file import and want to make sure that we have selected. Here are file types D W g for our cat foul. And now let's go to the folder where we have our cat and let's just hit import and clothes and there we see way have our camp. 3. Creating the Site: Let's use the rectangle tool. Go over here to your large tool set and let's activate that rectangle tool. And what we're going to do is just create a rectangle about the same size as our site over here. And this is Click and let's make this into a group by going back into our selectable and double click so that everything is highlighted and right click and go to make group. And now let's activate that group by double clicking. And now let's use the push pull tool to add some depth to this. So I'm just going to go underneath here and type in six feet. Enter and there we just created a six foot block, which is we are going to use this kind of the base of our site for this house. Now let's do the same thing using the AutoCAD a plan. Now let's go back into the rectangle tool, and I'm going to select each corner. And now let's go to our select and double click right click Make group and let's go ahead and double click. To activate that group, use the push pull tool and I'm going to drag down six feet answer. And there we've created six foot block. Now I'm going to extend this beyond here because I wanted to also represent my street. So let's just go ahead and drag it out here. And since I've already stretch this one out here, I'm just going to use this as a point of reference and just click there, and it dragged it out to that point. So now I have my slab for my site. Now the reason why I'm doing it twice here is for those of you who do not have this cat plan you can follow along just by creating the shapes on this side Here. Now, just to clear up are drawing a little bit. Let's turn off one of our tags. I want to go ahead and hit this eye icon in our tag DeVol tray and let's go ahead and click that on elevations just to get rid of that for now. And let's go ahead and also select this person here and delete them as well. Okay, so what I want to do now is I want to just create a little bit of detail to my site. Slab here, everyone double click to activate that and use the push, pull tool and select this edge here. And what I want to do is I wanna tap toggle control so I don't move it. But I want to add a different line within it, and I'm going to make it line up with the edge of my street right there and let's click there. So now we have a division there, So let's click out of that and let's do the same thing here. Just double click. Use the push pull tool. Grab that face toggle control to make that line break. Instead of pushing like this, you need control. And let's just make it line up there and there we go. Now, if you still need a little bit more help doing this on your own, I'm going to give you some measurements here. So you kind of know some of the measurements were dealing with, and I'm just using this dimension tool here. Alice is go click here to the edge, and there we have roughly about 150 feet. It doesn't have to be completely accurate for the purposes that we are doing here and let's go in and click here by 54 feet. So if you create a slab 150 by 54 55 feet, you should be fine to follow along without using this camp file. 4. Creating Walls: Now let's create some walls to do that. Let's first create another tag. Go over here to your tray and click plus icon under the tags and let's call this walls enter. Let's make that the active layer and let's turn off site. Now let's zoom in here and let's go to our rectangle tool. And first we're just going to select the outer edge to the outer edge. And now let's make this into a group. Let's double click and right click Make Group, and that's double click to activate that group. And now let's cut out some spaces here by using the rectangle tool again. Yeah, we're just going to cut around there and let's go ahead and use the eraser tool. And he raised some of these excess lines. And there we have the base of our walls, which is really going to be our slab now for our slab. I'm going to go ahead and use the push pull tool, and we're going to come down six inches and there we've created are slab. Now, if you're following along without the cat plan, simply draw these lines by using the pencil tool. Go ahead and click the line icon there and select the point. Drag your mouth until it locks into that. Read access and type 39 feet seven inches. Now drag your mouse mouse down until it gets through. That green locks into that green access, and we're gonna type in 38 feet five inches and then our next dimension is nine feet for. And then the next one is three feet 10. And there's just a little bump out here of five inches by and then one foot for. So we go. Five inches come down and that green access one foot four inches. And then here we have six for eight, and then this dimension is 17 feet 10 and then 24 feet, and then it should lock up. And there we've created are slab. Now let's go ahead and double click and make this into a group double click to activate that group and use the push pull tool to come down six inches to create that six inch slab . So there we've created the slab for our home. Okay, so now let's create some walls. Before I do that. Let's go ahead and turn off another layer. Let's turn off this lot layers of that. We only have our one F layer from AutoCAD showing now. Ah, quick trick. I'm going to show you two just not have to redraw your your perimeter of the walls. I'm just going to grab this top surface of the slab and I'm going Teoh, edit copy and let's go to escape and let's go ahead and hide this and let's hit at it paste in place. And there we have that slab that we already created there, and I'm gonna go ahead and right click and make this into a group and let's go to double Click to activate that group. Now what we're going to do is we're going to start cutting out areas for our walls. To do that, I'm gonna use this rectangle tool again, and we are going to select one interior corner to the next interior corner, and we're just going to go through each room of this house and select interior corner to the interior corner until we've gone through the entire house. Now, once we've done this, we can simply use the push pull tool and bring up all of our walls In one swift motion. - Okay , so now that we have all of our walls cut out, let's turn off the one f layer and let's do just a little bit of cleaning up using the eraser tool. I'm just gonna remove some excess lines just to keep my drawing a little bit nice and clean looking. Okay, great. There we dio. So now what we want to do is use the push, pull tool and just select the exterior perimeter of our walls. And we're going to drag this up and let's make this nine foot answer. And there we pushed up all our walls in just one quick motion. So pretty neat. Pretty cool trick to build your walls super fast. Now, if you're working without this oughta cat plan, what I'm going to do is just a simpler version of what I've done here. And we're going to click and create that group. Let's go ahead and add a copy and escape out of it and it paste in place and let's go ahead in hard. This one. Have this activate this group. Actually, we need to make it into group first. And now let's activate it. And now I'm just going to offset. My walls are only nine inches thick, so we're gonna use this offset tool here, and we're going to hit the offset and moving this interior direction and type nine inches. And now it's used the push pull tool and let's come up nine feet. And there we created the exterior of our walls very fast. And now let's just add just one or two interior walls here. I don't want to you, Adam, Paul, and a quick way to do that is, let's double click. Use the push pull tool and remember to hit that control, to toggle and just create another division there. And let's go ahead and drag this line all the way across here, and that's all the walls that we want to add for this model right now. 5. Door and Window Openings: Now let's cut out some openings for our doors and windows to do that. Let's turn back or one F layer. Now let's look underneath our house and let's create Let's activate this group by double clicking so that we are able to select services. And now let's use the rectangle tool again, and we're going to start squaring off some of these openings. So let's just go around the house and just create, uh, a square rectangle where there's a no opening for a window or a door. Just go around your model. Here's another one, and there is a window in our kitchen here. This is for a rear door. Here's another one for a bedroom. You have to Windows there. Can we have one in hair? One of this bedroom? And I believe that is it? Okay, so now we want to use the push pull tool, and we're gonna push these each eight feet up for a eight foot header height. Um, actually, you don't want Let's come back down. Let's make of seven feet. Let's go seven foot and we'll go seven foot here, seven foot for that front door, and we can just double click, and it will remember your last command. So if I did set a foot there, don't click and is pushing it seven foot for a header height for each one of these windows and doors. And I believe I had a brick ledge there. So I'm just gonna go use the push pool and make sure I pushed all the way to the edge. And I believe we've created all of our openings there. Now let's add some height for these windows, so we're gonna use a five foot window high standard here. So let's drag using a push pull hit control to create another division there on type five foot. And now let's go ahead and use the push pull tool again and going to get control so that it kind of cleans up that extra line there, and we could use a push pull again. So hits that face and there it created the opening. So let's do the same thing here will come down five feet and let's go around here and they control to do that automatic cleanup and let's keep going. And these, Since it's above a countertop, I don't want it to be right on the counter. So let's just make this three foot six inches and then it's that's, do that clean up there. And if it doesn't get rid of that line, don't worry. You could always just go back and use Eraser tool and just remove it. And that's the door. So we'll leave that like that. Here's another bedroom, so let's come down five foot and then let's continue to clean up these. Make sure it's touch of that surface to clean it up. He's the racer tool, and we have a couple more bedrooms here, five foot on all of these. So houses like these air really civil because they use a lot of the same windows a lot of builders just like to do. That helps them save money as well. And it's easier for the designers. Well, okay, those that's, uh, there. We go back to our previous Zune, and there we've added our window and door openings now to create our openings in our model over here that does not have the calf. All I want to do is use the line tool and let's select the center because we know this garage door is censored here. So let's select that midpoint and we're gonna come up seven feet and we're going to go over nine feet, which is half of 18. And let's go ahead and come on down and let's go nine feet and let's go ahead and close that. And one thing I forgot to do was to actually get into this group. So what I'm going to do is let's going to select those lines that I just created. And let's say that it cuts double click to activate this group and edit paste in place and they're delete that. And there we have our surface. This use the push, pull and let's go ahead and create that open there. And now we have an opening here. Let's go ahead. That's three feet six. So let's go from the center. I will go up seven feet and that's Ah, believe one foot nine, half of that, three for six. So let's go one foot nine down and to see race, use the push pull and there we've created that. Now we do need to create this interior wall here, so let's go ahead and create that. Let's double click or let's use the push. Pull and remember to hit that tab. I'm sorry. Control, too. Teoh, create that extra division there and was going in close that. All right, and then we're going to draw a wall A door right here in the center. Come up seven feet, and this is gonna be a three foot door. So we're just gonna come over. Ah, foot six inches on each side. Come over foot and six inches while we Dan, and clean up with the eraser tool and then use the push pull to push Do that surface. Okay. And one thing I'm gonna change from this original cat plan is I don't like this bump out here, so let's go ahead and fill that and using push pool to select that and come all the way to the edge and click once. And we use the racer just to clean that up. And let's do the same thing to this one here. So escape. Don't pick to activate that group. You don't really need to select anything. Just go to push pool, hover over that, highlight it. Click once, drag your mouse till it comes out and make sure you make it flush on edge and then we can just erase ups. Make sure you're in that race command that we race that OK, so now let's put a double 30 window here. And we wanted to be centered in this walls with race that was, Make sure when we use this pencil tool, it's grabbing the center. They will come up seven feet and we'll go over three feet and we are using only five foot windows and we'll come over six feet and five foot and there we go and it's going to push this through. And I think we're a little bit off censored because I think there was still a break, and that's why right there. So let me show you another easy our way to get a center point and this use the first pool. I'm gonna grab this, and I'm going to make it line up with the sensor now and then. Let's come over three feet and let's do the same thing here to the midpoint and then come over three feet and that was measure and yet we used to be right there at six foot and it should be centered up right? There's a foot five on half inches, but in the half inches. So there, we know it's centered. Okay, Now, for this portion of it, I'm just gonna do a little bit of visual guessing here and here. We have a five foot by six foot opening, so it's a double window here. I'm just gonna pick a point around here and let's just drag your mouse up. Make sure we get on that blue access, and that's come over three feet. And actually, then come back would make sure in this group make sure activating that group. And then let's draw that again and will come up seven feet, three feet. Come back down five feet and there we go. It's easy. Eraser tool. Yeah, Let's use the push. Pull! And now let's push it over another three feet to make it a double window. Okay, so let's continue on. So here I have a door right here at the edge, right off of this wall. Right here. We have a wall there. You raise that piece there. Okay, so we have ah, door right there, and it's just about six inches off of that wall. So let's draw door there and will come off of here six inches and let's go up seven feet and we're just making another 30 doors since its exterior door and use the push pull and will come out with that. And for this one, we're just going to kind of guessed the mate. Where is that again? I'm just going to draw a line. We can actually come off of this line and we'll just come about here and we'll come down three foot six inches and we'll make this three foot as well, then just cleaned it up. Is the press pool There we go. OK, so now we have two windows here at 305 O's. So just going, Teoh, come off of here again and let's come down five feet and again for this model. I'm just trying to get a look, so we're obviously not trying to get them exactly where they need to be. For that, I would actually have to be following a plan like I'm doing in this one. But for this one, since we're not using the cat plan, we're just gonna kind of, uh, eyeball it a little bit and then what I'm gonna do here? I'm gonna use another quick trick to quickly create our openings. So I just made that surface, Made it into a service. Again. Let's highlight it. Let's use the move Command and just grab a point. It really doesn't matter where I grab it. They're gonna drag it. But I'm gonna hit control to make it an extra copy and listens. Drag it. Let's see where it looks about right over there and we'll see. We'll go about there is kind of close to the image of the house. And actually, we could move this one, too. It seems like it's a little bit closer, is let's move it over a few feet. Let's go. Um, let's move it over for actually, let's go six feet and then we'll come back this way and we'll type 60 and let's push pull this through. So it's service and there we go. Okay, so we're almost there. We just got two more windows to add on this end. So let's just draw a line for reference here and what kind of eyeball where it's going over here. And we just come down. Picture were on that blue access. Come down five foot three feet and let's close that off as push. Pull it, push, pull it through and right there. And let's just copy that over. Use the move Command. Let's drag it over and it looks like it's probably about there and use the press pool. Do clean some cleaning up like that was that, and there we dio created all of our door and window openings on both of these models. 6. Creating windows: Now let's start creating some windows to do that. Let's first create another tag and let's call this one Windows and Doors. We're going to put those on the same layer or tag and let's go to make that tag active. And now let's move over here to one of our window openings. Now I'm gonna use the rectangle tool, and we're gonna go in and create our own windows, and I'm just going to select one corner to the next. And that's going to use the selectable DoubleClick and right click, and we are going to make this into a group. So now let's also right. Click when we're time and making a component as well, and we'll go in and call this a Rio 50 and we'll go ahead and say, Create now that's going to double click And let's do some offsets to create some more depth to this window. So we're going to offset 1.5 inches. Enter and then let's draw a line just right down the middle, and then we're going to select that line and right click divide, and we're going to divide this into three pieces, so I'm gonna type three enter and you can always see down here the numerical values that we enter. So now we can't really see. See where those are, right? So what I'm gonna do is let's go to styles and we'll go to are any and right here to edge settings and we're going to change our endpoint values and we don't need to be seven, but let's let's make it three and profiles. We don't really need a profile, but the edges are nice to see, so that's going and click out of that and there. We can clearly see where those dots are, even though when I go into my line tool, it should snap to those automatically. But it's nice to see them as well. So let's go ahead and click and drag our mouse and just start making some connections. Now. I don't want him just to be lines. I want to add some depth to it. So let's use offset again and let's offset inside 0.5 inches or happen. It's and we're going to repeat that by going over here. We're still in that offset command, and now I'm going to double left click and then it just repeats that offset value. So just another quick way to quickly create some offsets. Now use this eraser tool and let's erase these lines in the center that we don't need anymore. And now let's use the push pull tool to give it some debt. So let's come in two inches and we'll double click to repeat that value. And then let's come in an inch and 1/2 and there we've created a nice depth to that. But now I want to make sure it's correct, even on the inside. So let's go ahead and to the other side of this and let's grab this and I hit control so that I'm I'm not just push boom, I'm creating another surface and let's type one inch and then let's also go to the exterior edge here just to get a better where areas you can see that and we're gonna drag this, make sure you hit that control so that it doesn't stop at that point. And type four Ensor and then now is come back. And now let's add a bit of a glass material to this. So to do that when you go to my trey Let's go to materials and let's find our glass material. And I'm just going to use this trans losing glass gray and we'll just select each one of those pains and select and was just deactivate that that group and there we go. So there we have created our window and we can also slide. Push this in because it would actually be sitting in the window bit. So let's actually push it in five inches and there should be flush on outside here and sitting nicely in that window. Okay, so now what I'm going to do is I'm going to copy this to everywhere where I had those 5030 windows, which I had him pretty much all throughout this house. So let's use the move, command, and we're gonna grab an end point and we're dragging, and we're gonna hit control so that we make a copy while we drag and then let's click again . And I'm gonna actually drag these over here because I know we have identical model over here and let's go ahead over to this area and now I'm going to do is I need to rotate him, so I'm going to you. Select it. Use this rotate tool and we want to select an area. Make sure have it selected. I'm sorry. That's orbit rose eight over here, and that's going to select the surface. And it doesn't really matter where we select at this point. We just don't need to make sure we're on that blue access. And you could tell where when it switches, it goes red, green, blue. So we want to make sure we're on the blue, and then we're going to select another point again. It doesn't matter where we select, because we're going to tell it to move 90 degrees. Answer. And then now we use the move Command, we're gonna grab an edge, make sure lines up with that edge and grab it again. He controlled to make a copy, and there we have our double window. Now it's like both hold down. Shift is like them both. And use the move command and going to grab a point. Doesn't matter where. And I'm gonna push him in cottages so that they sit nicely inside that brick ledge. Okay, so let's grab this double on that corner because I have another double over a year he controlled and grab that. And there we could rose eight again. 90 degrees. It should be right on there. Now, this one, this wall was not actually drawn at 55 I'm sorry. Nine inches. So let's go to just push this one all the way. Flush. And then we have a couple more windows along the back here to grab these. Use the move, tool grabbing edge, and we'll place him here and we're gonna have to rotate these again. So use that rotate tool. Just grab a point again. Doesn't matter where you grab, just click again, and then we're gonna dio 90 degrees. Use the move tool to movie right in the place. Do the same here and now I'm just gonna grab this one and let's move him over here to place him in these and make sure I grabbed in the right spot and I think we're good. Let's just grab this one and movie over here and we have this other one looks, Let's get out of that. It's like this one. Let's make sure we grab a point that we can grab same one over here and there we go So we've added all all of our 3050 windows, and we have one different window over here, so it's good and create one more window and just use the rectangle tool. You have a double click. Make group double click. To activate that group, let's offset 1.5 inches, and then let's draw some lines Just in. The centre will just make this 14 lights for four pains, and then let's offset 0.5 inches. Double click to repeat that, let's erase that centerpiece and they use the push. Pull and push it in two inches, pushing two inches and push in 1.5 inch and then let's go around the back of it. So make sure we do the same will come out one inch, click and then remember to hit control. If it stops on that point and four, then now let's create some glass with our materials and there we go. Now this grab it and copied over to doubt, and there we go. We've inserted all of our windows. Now the cool thing about doing windows ask components is if you wanted to change something , you could easily do it by just changing one of them. So let's say I wanted to make them look, These windows look a little more modern by removing some of these windowpanes. So what I'm gonna do are these Mullins, and so I'm gonna do is I'm gonna don't click and use the push pool. And let's remove some of these. And just to give it more of the horizontal look and feel so that it looks a little more modern. Just double click to repeat that and use the eraser tool to delete and could delete some of these lies. Get to that g o. It's not necessary to delete all these lines, but just to kind of make it look a little nicer. Okay, there we go. All right. So we'll leave it like that. And there you can see it. Changed it on all of our windows. So now didn't change on this one. Which we can just change that one ourselves here, tool. Have you ever mess up just a control Z undo your commands. A very useful tool. And here you can see I did not create this into component, so it did not change this one. So let's delete that one. And let's not make the same mistake again. Let's make this into a component and we'll say kitchen window hand was going Copy this over . There we go. Okay, so now let's go to insert some doors. 7. Importing and Creating doors: So the next step we want to do is to import or create a door. Now the door that I have here, which you see in the model from the cover image of this course. This is a model that I grabbed from three D warehouse. If you go to Windows three d Warehouse and if you type in architect Siri's contemporary, you'll get a list of these doors from Pella. Now the door that I use for this one, I believe, is right here and you see, because it has the handle in it and we can go ahead and download that directly to our model and you're going to put this side by side so you can see it's pretty much the same exact door and a couple of reasons why you may. I want to use a door from three warehouse or not, and a couple things is that there's quite a bit of detail in this door now that could be good or bad. It's good if you're getting a really kind of a close up rendering or view of your door. The bad thing is these models from 30 warehouse can sometimes contain a lot of files, a lot of layers that can really start to increase the size of your file. So there's nothing wrong with using these, But you might take in consideration that you can create something just as nice looking without being so, um, so larger a file. So you just seeing here you just see all the intricate detail that the out of here it is very nice. So another thing with these models that you get from 30 warehouse is you can see as I select it. There's kind of this offset here. So what is going on there? If I go to view, show hidden geometry and show hidden objects now I can see that there is some sort of trim piece around the door. Now, if I want to see that, what I want to do is double click and click it again. And that's right click and it still says Hartley's double. Click it one more time and C we get selected. There we go. Let's right click unhygienic, and they're now it's showing that trim. And then here we see there's another piece on this backside to re selected. Click on Hide There we can actually see that extra little trim piece if they have their as well. So there's nothing wrong with this. But if maybe if you just want the door, you're actually getting a lot more than just the door. So, um, let's undo some of that. Get rid of that and let's go. Teoh is not. View this hidden objects or hidden geometry and let's go in and grab this door and place it in our model. So now what I want to do is because again, because of that ghost image there, which I can I can delete that object, not not image of the object. I could delete that object, or I could just go around here and select the corner of my door and let's go over to our house here, and we can kind of place it right in that space there. So if it's really nicely there, um, again, if you want that trim piece, weaken DoubleClick and let's go to view hidden objects and then you see, click on its on high. There we go. So again you may or may not want that in your model, Um, just a matter of preference. So again we grab this same one and let's go ahead and put this on the back as well. So we go around here and this is Click was used. The rotate command, and we'll get this turnaround and we'll go in and grab a point or we can stretch it. I'm sorry, do we could move it to and again. This thing is kind of getting in my way again. So let's hide that trim piece. Just click hide and let's turn off that so we can kind of get the structure for the framing of the door. And let's make sure I'm grabbing the whole door. You move command. It was, Just grab the corner. Give it a second there. Okay, again. That's another thing with these models that you can see that there's corners a little bit harder to determine. So let's try that. G O. That's good. That's going to insert a couple inches. Actually, let's not do that so we can show that trim piece and let's go to view hidden objects. It was like that, like unhygienic. And there you have your trim piece there as well. It's a very nice door from Pella now the next thing I want to do is show you how we can create that same look of a door without importing it from three D warehouse. So let's do that next. Okay, so now let's create a door that is similar to this on our own. So the first thing I do is draw line at three feet, and then we're gonna go up six feet eight inches, come back three feet and we're just going and close this off. And then the next thing we're going to do is let's make this into a group. So I'm gonna double click, right click, make group, and then we want to double click to activate that group. And let's start off first by offsetting a line 1.5 inches and next list offset another line four inches. And then we will create some divisions here like they have. So we have 123456 So I believe we can just go right through the center there. One Teoh 345 And I don't know what account, so that's wrong. So another way we can do this is we have 123456 divisions So if I click here and I right click Divide and I say six and I'm gonna change my style here so we can actually see those notes that I just created. So I go to styles and let's go to edit and we'll go Teoh endpoints. And let's change this to to And there we go. Now we see the point that I just created. Let's make sure we're in that group again and I'm gonna draw some lines here. Okay? All right, So now let's do some push pooling. So actually, before I do that, let's offset one more time 10.5 inches, and I'm just gonna double click to repeat that offset trips. Let's try again for five and double quick. Okay, now let's erase some of these extra lines that we don't need. Okay, so now it's to use the push pool and let's come out two inches on this end. Let's go around the back here and will come out two inches there, and then let's make the door two inches thick so it's come out one inch and let's actually you have to hit control to talk about to make that two inches out So now we're one inch on each side. And then let's offset our little Molins here at Let's say, 0.25 inches. And then we'll do the same on this end. 25. Get that nice little offset. And then I'm just going to take this piece and come all the way down and hit controls. Make that piece go away. I don't really want that little lip there. You wouldn't actually have a lift there. You would have. It gets a little floor trim piece there. And OK, so now the next thing I want to do is add some glass. So let's go to our paint buckets. So let's like this. Let's get back into our group here. And then Look, we're just going to add glass, Okay? Now we need a door handle, so I'm gonna grab this handle. And just so you know, that door handles should be placed at about 36 inches off the ground. So that's about 36 right there. And it's gonna be a little bit different, depending on each type of door handle you got. But I'm gonna go in and copy this And escape was getting to this and let's hit paste and we'll just plate pace that somewhere. Let's move to where we want and just grab this and kind of eyeball it for a second groups. It's not like in Nazi much they had controlled make that copy and is not liking that at all . So let's do something else. Let's explode it in the sea, explode well, exploded a couple of times and created a new group out of it. And then let's cut it and then let's paste. It was good and rotated direction that we want. So probably like that. And this grammar points, we can place it on our door. And then we want to make sure that this handle is right about at that 36 inches so I could go ahead and use that align the locking, the access, get it right about there. And that looks about right. Give it a second, I think. And I think we are good. So let's go ahead and match this color and there we go. We just created that door again. It looks pretty much the same, but we don't have all that. Uh, something is way over there. How about that list race that. Okay, I was clean some of this up, and it's going to pop this into our door group, just a paste in place. And now let's go ahead and move this into our models. I'm gonna go in and use the move. Command, grab the corner. Let's place it right at the corner there. And there we go. Got our front door. It was going to move this to the back point and click on this corner here and there we go. Now we have or back door as well. So two different ways you can create doors again. You can use the three D warehouse, but again, you may end up bringing a lot of, um, large files into your drawing, which could really start slowing it down, which you may or may not want. So just be careful of that. But again, this is not a bad door. You get a lot of nice detail with it. But if I'm just looking for an exterior rendering, you can't really tell from this distance any more detail. So just think about that when you are creating your exterior models. Okay, so let's we want to the next lesson 8. Creating a Garage door: So now let's build a garage door. Now there are garage doors that we can get from three D warehouse, but we can also create one very easily. So let's go ahead and use the rectangle tool and draw garage door. So select one corner all the way to the other corner and then use a selectable again and double click so that we select that entire surface and right click to make a group and then double click to activate that group. Now we're just gonna offset. We'll just do 1.5 inches and let's go ahead and push this in. Let's just say two inches and then we're just going to bring this peace down, using the push pull and let's use the race and just that race that little lip there. And then let's create some divisions here using our line tool, and we're just gonna snap to the midpoint. Let's come all the way across on our red access and then let's go again. Snap to the midpoint all the way to the end, to the midpoint. Now all the way to the end. There we go. Now. Let's use the offset tool and let's offset these services that we created, and we'll just say 0.5 inches and double click to make that repeated offset. Okay, now it's easy Eraser tool, and we'll erase those lines in between. And now let's use the push Pull again and let's come out one inch that I'm just gonna double quick to repeat that. And there we go. That is all we really need for our garage door and says, I'm gonna copy this over to our other model here versus believe that face. And let's make this into a component by selecting it and right clicking make component and we'll call it our garage door. And then let's copy this by using the move tool and grab just any base point and hit control to make a copy. And let's drag it over here. Chop it there and actually, I'm gonna push it in five inches, five inches here, and so it's just select move. Just pick a base point anywhere and make sure you're pushing it on that green access type five inches. Enter on. There we go. Okay, so we have all of our doors and windows imported and inserted into our model. So now let's move on to creating some roofs 9. Creating Roofs Part 1: so to create our roof, we can actually use a plug in, which is very useful. Or if we don't want to use a plug in or pay for a plug in, we could actually build it completely in sketch up. So let's do that first. So let's go ahead and let's create another tag for our roof. So let's go to tags. We'll go to add a tag and we'll call this roof and let's make that or active tag. So now let's draw a line. So I'm going to draw a line here and let's come out 12 inches and let's go up four inches and we'll make a line there. Now let's make this into a group, and what we're gonna do is we're gonna create a profile in which to draw our roofs from. So let's double click. And then what I'm gonna do is I want this to come out. I want us to be a two foot overhang, so type two feet. Just draw a line down here, and then I'm going to draw a line from this end point and extend it. And now that you see where it turns magenta, that means it's aligned with that angle and let's just bring it to where it intersects there. And now what I'm going to do is I'm gonna offset this surface that I created six inches and actually that didn't work because it's a little bit too small of a space. So let's do it over here. We'll click on the edge and will come out six inches. There we go. Okay, so what we're doing is we're creating a six inch facia or Rafter and just start deleting all these extra lines and let's draw a line out there and I'm gonna go ahead and bring this all the way back to the wall. Just start closing some of that in so we'll have basically a flat softie underneath this. And now let's extend this roof out quite a bit and it's gonna be a pretty low slope roof here and extend this one and make sure it's in that locked in that magenta so that we know it's a line with this angle. And there we could see its lining with that edge and just going and close it. That's going to delete this line here. Okay, so there we've created a profile to do our roots from. So let's actually remove this more towards the center of the house, and I'm gonna actually make it a little bit longer and this is extended just a little bit more. All right, Any race. OK, I'm gonna make a copy of this and just bring it off to the side in case I want to use it again later. Okay? So that let's double click to activate this group that we just created. And let's draw a line that we want our roof profile to follow. So I'm going to draw a line around the perimeter of the edge of this house and there we've seen that a closed. So we have that line that's completely going around the perimeter of our building. So now with news, I'm going to believe that that service that I created and just so you can see what I'm doing, I'm going to click on this and hide it and let's double click so that everything is now selected. But I don't want this to be selected. So I'm gonna do is I'm going to do a window around it while holding the shift key and then I d selected everything in this face that I'm going to use for my follow me tool. So now let's go to the follow me tool Over here are toolbar And where is my follow me too. Right here. So I'm going to click Follow me. And once I click, it is going to follow this line with this profile that I've just created. So let's click. And it didn't work. Let's see one not Let's try it one more time. And actually, I think I need to delete that piece there, do one more time. So we have it all selected. We de selected this and now we're going to follow me. Or we could do follow me here. And we clicked that service and there went now it applied that, uh, all around the house. Now, one thing I'm gonna do now is use the cleanup. I'm gonna use eraser tool and just delete some of these this under lying surface here, just delete those so that the only thing we have is just the top of the roof showing, and I think that's good. So now we're not want to do because I want to select everything right. Click intersecting faces with selection. And there it just made some lines cutting to where all these faces intersect. And now it's easy race. It's a little more time, and we could delete all these extra lines. And there we have our hip roof completed and let's go ahead and unhygienic our walls. And to do that, I'm just going at it on hide all and there we have our roof. 10. Creating Roofs Part 2: Now let's create another roof with a little bit more architectural detail. So what I'm gonna do is going to go over to this model here and I'm going to draw this entry piece here, and I'm going to raise it up a little bit. So we want to do is use our pencil tool. And actually, it's first make sure were in that group and this drawn line here, and we're just going to create this separation here so that we can raise this piece up and let's raise it up three feet and I want to make sure that I am even on both sides here. So we have to foot one and I'm gonna want Tokyo two feet warnings this way. So it's just a little bit more than where I'm at now. Someone extracts that out to that point and there we go. OK, so now let's go back to create our roof. And I'm gonna use my profile that I had used here and was going to just select this. I'm gonna make a copy of it in case I want to use it again. And I'm gonna create two roofs, so one I'm gonna create here hands good and pushed its back. And what I'm gonna do here is something a little different. One Teoh double click. Let's extend this portion of our wall back further and maybe bring it back down to this, uh, while there, and let's push this all the way back here, okay? Now is double click that draw line for our profile to follow, and that now it's used to follow me tool. And you can you can access to follow me to here. Or you can go to tools, follow me, and we get click the surface, and then we just drag our mouths along the line that we created. And then we're just basically, this is what the following tool is following the line that you are telling it to. And we're gonna come all the way to the and here and there we go. Okay, let's delete some of these that we know we're going to clean up. Yeah, we could draw a line right here, and then just erase. And there we have this roof here, and then we're gonna do pretty much the same roof that we did in this other one here and You know what one more thing I'm gonna do? I'm gonna add a little bit more detail to this profile. And to do this, I'm just gonna come down and let's come down four inches and one inch and just create a little freeze board there. And then let's do let's come out on inch and two inches here and we'll just create a little lip there as well. Just give our roof a little bit more detail. Okay? Now is do the line for our follow me tool, and we're gonna go around the perimeter of our roof. And now, since I kind of have this hidden, I'm going. Just drag my line across, make sure I'm on that red access, and that's drawn this line. Just the ways Mawr. Let's make sure we connect them all. I'm going to go in and delete those two that created there, and I think I did something wrong here. So let's fix that. So make sure my line is coming from here hand, and we could actually use the the arrow keys to lock into an access. So let's hit that corner and hit the right arrow key, and it locks in that red access, and then we'll just bring it out a bit more there, and we can lock it here. Now, do I lift a Rakhine? It locks it in that green access, and I believe we're good. Now, let's erase some of these excess lines. Okay? So now if I hide all this, we can see what I did. And there we see our line connecting okay. And let's delete, um, that age there, and we're gonna do the same thing we did for our other follow me, tool. Just on Select that tools. Follow me. Then select the face and something did not work. Right? So let's see if we can do it by just clicking and dragging our mouths. Here we go. And I think it's gonna work. There we go. Okay. So now, usually razor tool to he raised some of these extra services that we don't need. And then let's go ahead and use the select. All right click to intersecting faces with selection. And now use the eraser tool can delete all your excess services. There we go. So now we've created that roof and let's go in and unhygienic previous ones and there we dio it looks like it's a little bit too high. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna drop it down a foot. Let's go down one foot and it looks like it's still too low now. So let's go down. Let's go back up six inches and there it looks like we're just under where we need to be. I'm gonna bring this wall down six inches, use the push pull, come down six inches and then when I could do what I can do here is just use. Um Why couldn't actually do a couple of ways must select all those edges. Make sure mean that group and then use the move tool. Grab the edge and drag until it connects with that roof. There we go. So another way we can build Bruce is by using plug ins. So for this next roof, I'm going to copy over one of these homes here. And let's just make a copy and drag it. Use that control to create a copy and let's delete the roof that we created. And to do this, I'm going to use one of my favorite plug ins, which is the Valley architects Incent roof plugging. If you go over here to Valley architects dot com, you can get this plug in its very inexpensive, in my opinion for it. And you can get all the architectural plug ins that they have. Or you can just get the roof plug in, which is one of my favorites that I love using, and you'll see why in a minute. But I highly recommend it. If you're really going to get into building three D models of homes. This plugging is extremely valuable, so I'm going to go ahead and minimize this and let me show you how that plug in works. So first I already have installed. So I'm going to go to view tool bars. And here it is. The instant roof knew we knew we plugging new. I'm not sure I say that, and that's good in clues. Okay, so to create this or to create a roof with this plugging, we're going to use the rectangle tool, and we are in roofs, so I mean that layer. So I'm going to draw a surface here, and it's going to double click and make this into a group double click again I'm gonna grab the corner and there we go. So I've created a whole service around that area. So one way I could do this is I can just click, click on that surface and go to make room. Now here's gonna open up a new window that gives me lots of options of different types of roofs that I could do. So here we are, in the preset category. So I click here to show the styles, and here you can see just plenty of styles to choose from, but even in these styles, So I like to start a lot with just this boxed in faces of style. And then I could click here to parameters and modify all these elements here. So here, I'm going to make this up for 12 just like I did on my roots I built from scratch. And here we can add some more. Or we could modify some or the parameters here. So, for instance, here the IV with we can change that to 24 inches, the without the gable lands. Um, make that into 12 for now. And facia height. Let's change that to six inches. Beijing thickness will leave that there, the roof thickness. I'll change that to six and we'll add a little trim piece on the end as well. And you can click here and it shows you exactly what those items are. And here it gives you more options as well, just for different types of roof situations. And I want to add a cornice detail, which actually I need to you. If I wanted to add some of these, I need to change the style. So right now I have a plum cut exposed. So let me click here and show you some of the different types of eaves that weaken Dio. And for this one, what I want is I want to do this one plum cut soffit, which is the same way I did on the other ones. So it's good. Includes that. And once we have all of our parameters set, we just click make roof and no license expired. I need to renew my license, but I think it will still let me do it. And there it goes. Okay, so very cool. And now we need to add one more roof here, something to go ahead and hide that and let's create this roof here. So we have to create a surface double quick, make this into a group and double quick here. And I'm going to extend this a little bit beyond because I believe I have to do that with the other one, and then I need to select the edge in that surface. So I'm selecting edge line and this service because this is going to make this into a gable end and leave the rest as a hip or ive. And so let's go to make roof And we just threw that. And there we go. And now if I hard everything there we go. So we created our roots, looks pretty much the same as the one we did here and just with a couple of added a little face, our I'm sorry, freeze board there. So very cool. Plug in. You could do a lot of cool things with it. So, for instance, let's say if I wanted to do a different roof here and let's say it's going to hide this and let's create one more a different style of roof, I'm gonna do the same thing or creating those services and it's still click. It was Just delete this line here, and I want to actually draw a line cutting through all the way there. Okay, so what I want to do is I want to have some exposed gable lines here. So I'm going, Teoh, click all the way through. So I'm clicking these two ends, which that what it tells it to do is to make these and to Gable ends and leave these as a normal eve. So we'll click that and have a gable end here. And I have the services selected as well. So now let's go to make roof. And I'm just gonna say, make roof. And there it created some gable ends for us. So very nice cleans it up for you and everything. And I could do the same thing here on the top. And it's hard that for now, stubble pick. Make sure we push this back into our roof and then we want to select. We can actually select both of those if you want and click make roof. It's hard. The last one. And there we have our gable ended roof that we created their so very nice and easy way to create some different variations with the same house 11. Diveway and Sidewalk: now that we have our roof created, let's go back to working on our site to do that. Let's first turn on our lot in sight tags and let's go ahead and hide the house that we created and by selecting everything and is right click hide and we're gonna do is we're going to cut out our driveway shape so that we can add some more detail to our site plan here. Okay, so let's use the rectangle tool again, and we're going to go ahead and outline the perimeter of our home here and we're just gonna go around it, okay? And now it's outline or driveway. I mean, our sidewalk and then our driveway and we also have a sidewalk here was Go ahead to that end point there and then we have these curves right here. So let's see if we can select the ends and just kind of make it line up using that arc tool or two point heart. Soul just goes in there, and that's going to select our services to make sure we created those divisions, and it looks like we're good, So let's go ahead and extend this dry. I'm sorry this sidewalk out all the way. Use eraser tool and let's shut off our lot and one f layers. We can kind of see what we did. Okay, so we can delete some of these lines here, and that looks good. We will leave it like that. And there we have our street. We have our driveway, our sidewalks, and basically kind of our pad for the house. So let's want to the next step. 12. Adding and Editing Materials: Let's add some materials to our site. So to do that, we're gonna go to our tray here and click on your materials tab and let's click here and let's start with our landscape fencing and vegetation tab and let's go ahead and select this grass light green. And now let's make sure we are in our sight block here that we created or and let's like this paint and just start clicking on the areas where we will have grasped. And there we go. So now let's add some concrete. And to do that, let's go over here to let's see, it's asphalt and concrete that 1st 1 So let's start first with the asphalt new for our street and we're going to click here and we'll just apply that to our street going apply all around the block and what to do. The same for Our grass was click here and just kind of click around the whole thing. And now it's asking concrete for our driveway, and we'll do just this polished concrete. New actually. Do old. See what that looks like? It's not too bad. Bruce, Control Z undo that. There we go. I will even do our pad. Is that concrete as well? Okay, so now we have our driveway and pad set. If we want to add a little bit more detail to this driveway, what I like to do sometimes is double click here and click offset and let's go six inches and six inches again. And then let's come down one inch and again another inch and don't click for that one inch so that we have a little step coming down and let's go ahead and bring these all way out to the edge. But it's good right about there, okay? And then what I want to do is I want these to be concrete. This these little alleges that we have here and we could do the same on this side. And there we go. Now we have our street and we have our driveway. Now let's go ahead and unhygienic model. Okay, so now let's apply some materials to our model. Let's go over here to materials and let's go to brick cladding and siding and let's just select a brick and we'll just do maybe this rough dark one and select our model, and we'll just begin to select some surfaces where we want to apply that brick to. And basically, we'll do it all over the exterior of the house. And you may want Teoh Ggo into it a little closer and get all these extra little corners that may get missed. Yeah, I think we're OK on that back side. Okay. All right. So just like that, we're adding a little bit more like to this model. Now, let's add some material to our roof over here, too, roofing. And for now, we'll just let the basic roof shingles asphalt, and we'll just click on our roof and just click, and we can apply that to our roof here and here we go. And OK, so now we have our roof and our break done. So now we haven't applied anything to our window. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna use this. I dropped tool or a sample pain, and I'm going to select the material we have on our door. And then we will go ahead and click on all of our windows here and apply that back up. One go. Well, we're gonna play it to all these windows and we could quite to the door as well, or we could do a different would. Let's do a different would on there. So let's go to our would layers. There would materials, and we'll just like the one from our selection here says would four. But we can make it work for this. So to do this list, select and flip that individual frame there. And then I wanted to work go the other way. So to modify a material going to use this electoral and then I haven't selected going to right click and go to texture position that now gives us these icons that pop up here. So right here, this one is to rotate. So it says I can click and drag my mouse and rotate, and I also scale it. I want it, rotate it and again I could scale as well and just kind of put it where I think it looks good. And then I'm going to just sample it, and then I apply that to all the other ones as well. And then I'm just going to do maybe a darker wood on the overall group, and there we go. And I don't like the color that much So I'm gonna do is gonna edit it a little bit by clicking the sample of this pain. And we can edit our materials by going here to edit. And here we can change the colors and the saturation. So it gives us a lot of different options to work with our materials here. So let's make it a little darker, maybe about there. And then we have the dark in this one as well. Just go to select there and we get dark in that one quite a bit as well. Okay, All right. And then now let's apply a color to just our faces over here. So we're gonna go to select and let's just go to a color and we'll try to make a cream color that matches, and we'll just start with something would just start with this one, and there's just barely noticeable. It's gonna edit, and it's dark in it and will change this saturation dark in its, um or maybe give it more of orange hue. And that would maybe we lighten it a little bit great out since kind of playing with it. To get a matching color feel to it. Maybe about their looks. Something about normal that you would see. This is a typical look here in Texas that you'll see in a lot of houses, just something like this. Or we couldn't even go with just a really dark look to it. And that could work as well. And we can also change the color of our roof. So to do that, let's go to select and select our roof color here right now has a little bit of this is weird tone to it. So that's going to just make it more gray and darken it up. Actually, I'm gonna add a little bit more brown's to it. There we go. So I think that matches a little better and where we can add a little bit more color to face. Uh, somewhere around there were kind of get it to match a little bit. Okay, so there we go. We have our materials added to our house. Okay, so we have our house here with the material on it. But you know what? I want to make this look more modern to something that's a little bit more up to date. So to do that we're going to use our sample paint and select that brick. Let's go to edit again and we're gonna go with the more of a brick painted brick look. To do that, I'm going to click this cull Arise icon here. And then let's just kind of make it white whitened out. Maybe about there. And now let's go to our roof. And let's change this to, um, maybe just more of a gray, maybe a little darker. Or maybe you want a lighter when you play with that a little bit. What I do know is I want to make my soffits dark. So let's go with maybe a darker look like that and was also changed our garage door. And let's go back to a painted look like our doors. So to do that, let's go and select the same material here, and we're going to select everything and let's go ahead and darken it up a bit. We still have a little bit of colored or break. Let's see if we can get rid of that. Select it and here we have one. Where does it go to zero, and there it's completely avoid of color is just a great tone, and that looks good there. Okay, so let's have a little bit more detail here, and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna add some wood soffits to here. And for this, I'm gonna show you how we can actually add some custom materials. So one place I like to go to you to grab my custom materials is sketch up texture club. So here's a free commercial for you guys, but it's actually a good source for you to find some nice textures. So basically, just go to textures and they do ask you to you create a logging, but they do have free textures for you. So if you go here to architecture and we can just select the types of materials And Wallace , if we want a wood, we'll click here and here. It just gives us a different types of wood. Um, let's see the also have exterior. Let's see wood planks. Let's try wood planks. Let's see what comes up. Yeah, here we go. So here we have just lots of different siding types. Here. We have 322 different types of wood sightings. You just go through on this. There's a lot to choose from, and we can also just grab stuff that we find from Google. So if you go to Google, you can also find textures so we can type in something like wood texture, and you can go to images and see what comes up, and you can actually use any one of these and create a texture out of it. So we click here and you just clicked up. You just say save images. SeIf image. You can create a texture out of anything you find that's J. Peg or something like that. So let's go over here and now to use a custom texture. What I'm gonna do is first, I'm gonna start with just a regular color and just place a color. They're not going to hit at it. And I want to use a texture image, and I'll go to something I've already saved in my materials, and I highly recommend that you create your own library of materials. So I believe I have some Underwood and let's find one that I want to use for this and let's see, and we can try. Perhaps this one, actually, yeah, let's go with this one right here. This V groove would. And there we see it automatically popped it in. But I want to change the scale of it, which I could do right here. And that's good. About three feet. No, let's do mawr. Maybe about there might work. And let's go to see if we can break it so that we can turn the angle of it. Okay, so let's goto texture position, and we're gonna rotate it, and we're gonna try to match it up as best as we can. She were all those lined up. It's a little tricky, cause, uh, we can't really type in the exact, um, the exact rotation or the exact scale. So we just kind of toe maneuver it the best you can to get it close. Could possibly scale it to see if we can get it just about right. And there we go. That looks pretty good. So it's going to add that to this over here and here. I'm just going to grab the same wood from there that I could just use the sample and go there, and then here we just need to create a division so we can turn this one here just to get it in direction that we want it to, Theo. So now the next thing you want to do is add a little bit more detail to this model. 13. Adding Architectural Details: Now let's add a light fixture right here. And to do that, let's go to three D warehouse and we'll go to let's type in Fresno, Scots, and you'll see these come up and let's go ahead and select this 1st 1 here and let's download this directly into your model. Okay, now let's rotate it to where we want 90 degrees and click and drag and place this on the right side here and doesn't really matter where. You just want to keep it a little bit above eye level. So you're just kind of you, kind of just visually place it coming the sensor of that wall, and I'm actually gonna increase the size of it. So let's go to scale and we're going to select one of the corners here. Could be any one of the corners. We're gonna drag it to make it larger, and we'll just go a little bit larger and let's go to set again and one trick to censor it as well as we can select the midpoint of the group and then let's lock into our red access and go to snap to the sensor here and there we are on that center point, I'm going to raise it a little bit higher and there we go. Okay, so we have our light fixture there. And let's ask some here to our garages. Well, that's going to select the midpoint and let's hit control to make a copy. You know, we'll go right there to censor and right there. Okay, Very nice. All right, so let's keep adding a little bit more detail. So let's add some soffit lighting to our two foot soffits here. And to do that, I'm going to use the rectangle tool. I'm just gonna draw anywhere on here, and we're going to type in four Comma four to draw four by four square analysts, use a selectable Let's make this into a group right click, make group double click and let's offset and just offset just about 1/4 of an inch. And then let's offset down our use. The push pools are down 1/4 of an inch, quarter minutes. There. We just have a little bump out, and now let's add a yellow color for our light, and we're going escape out of that and let's add some more color. So I'm going to use this sample paint will collect that color there. You can just apply it to our light. Okay, so now we won't apply this around our model, and I want to get it more or less in the center of this soffit. Yeah, We're just going to drag police that in the middle there and let's go to make a copy all the way at the other end. And you could walk in that red access if we like and click once. Then while we're still in this command, let's hit divide, divide by two, and then it'll place one right in the middle. And there we have some sconce lights there. I'm sorry, are soft lighting and we'll go in and add Let's add going just in the middle here and then let's keep going and adding some more. I'm just going to select it. Use the mood tool, and I'm just gonna grab anywhere on the surface of this group hit control to make a copy, and we'll drag to the corner here. And actually, I don't want this to be in the corner on this one, so I'm gonna go out to that point and we'll drag about there, and that's good. Move this to about there. And this is just these things will just make it look that much better when we go to do our rendering for this home. And here, I'm gonna put this one kind of in the sensor of where that window is. Then let's add some more around the side of the house. They're going to click hit Control Dragon all the way to the end. I'm not gonna go to the edge will go to about here, and I'm gonna divide by three. And they're added some more in between there. Okay, so there we have some lights going all around our house, and it's looking good. And I'm going to drop these sconces just a little bit more. I think there's just a little bit high. Just gonna come down about four inches. So I have all selected, and I'm sorry to deflect them all. You just have to hold down, um, control or shift. I believe that is the same. You can dislike, shift, use the move tool. Just click anywhere and removing on that blue access down four inches. Enter and we'll leave it like that. Okay? So now let's add some headers above or windows and doors. So to do that, I'm just going to use the line tool and we're gonna draw a line. And for home like this, we don't want to make him too large. But for this one go, I'm going to go six inches and let's go ahead and make this into a group by double clicking right Click make group and don't cook to activate it and let's come out. Makes it a little bit more interesting to look at. Okay, so now let's add some gutters and downspouts to his house. 14. Adding Gutters and Downspouts: now to add a gutter and a downspout. There are a couple of ways we can do it. We can use a plug in or we can draw it ourselves. So first, let's draw ourselves. So first we'll start with our gutter and we will come out. Let's go five inches and will come down five inches and create a box, a rectangle and what's going to make this into a group, and we're going to activate that group and basically we're going to make a curve out of it . Um, you really have to you. But just up to you. How do you wanna show your how much detail you want actually put into the gutter? And it's going to make a copy of this in case we need it again later, this coffee over to this side. And then let's go ahead, double click and activate it. And then we're going to give it a path to follow so strong line around everywhere we love this gutter to Dio. And here we have it just wrapping around the entire house and it's going to stop right here at this. So now I'm gonna do I'm going to select everything and then de select the actual profile and let's go to tools, Follow me and let's select the surface. And there it created that gutter all the way around very nicely. And then we can apply material to it just like that. And then, actually, I'm gonna do a couple changes here. I don't like them all being dark, so let's lighten up our freeze board here. And I'm gonna use the same material for this concrete. My bad. And it's just a design design decision we're making here. Okay? And this back to prison there. Okay. All right. And I'm also going to go to our colors and use a different color for face. Uh, maybe not Make it so dark. Um, a little darker than that. Maybe about there. I will keep it. That m seven. And here will add that same material to our frieze board that we did hand. Let's grab this for our soffit above our roof there. Grab it here. And now we can believe some of these sleep back up somebody's lives we don't need. And then we're going to use our follow me tool to create the downspouts. Let's go to tools, follow me and just click on that surface and just follow it along the path we just created . And there we go Now. We created a nice down smelt there. Now I do want to create some brackets here that is, that's gonna be holding this. So what we'll do is let's offset this. Um, actually, it was versus offset here and let's go point 25 inches and then let's go out one inch on both sides. It will come out half an inch, happen inch here and let's go in any race. Some of this and then we can come up, say, 1.5 inches. And there we have our bracket holding down our doubts about Let's just drag this down to the ground and let's slide up our bracket. You kind of where this curve starts happening about their. Then let's copy it down to somewhere around there. Okay? And let's double or triple click everything here and let's make this into a group, and now it's at some color to it. It's a material, and we'll make you the same as our gutter. And now we can move this wherever we want on our gutter. I'm gonna move it more towards the edge, and now I'm going to copy it someone to copy it. Hey, Control, it's make a copy, and we'll add another one here. And let's add one more here, I'm gonna extend it a little bit. So that's coming down into our bed. Okay? And let's shift it over to the right a little bit. Okay? Now we have our downspouts in our house. 15. Standing Seam Metal Roof: now, another thing I'm going to do to make this look a little more modern is to change the roof to a metal roof. Now, I'm gonna use the Valley Architects plug in to do this. So first, let's change this asphalt shingle back to just a solid color, and I'm gonna use the color of my roof here. Just give it a solid color. Yeah, just like all those. Okay. And we're going to go to our roof details here and here, one to go to in presets and click here. And I'm going to use out of their presets this one called Standing Seen one. And now let's go to parameters. And the only thing I really want to change is the scene thickness here. And I'm gonna change this one. Everything else I'm gonna leave the same and as you could just go through if you wanted to see what they are. And even though that showing a barrel tile roof, it's actually a standing seen. I'm not sure why shows it like that. But, um, they are. Those dimensions are offering Teoh standing seen details. So now what I have to do is have to select the services that I want to apply this standing seen to So apply each one of these services. And I'm also going to select the ridges as well the ridges and hips because it's going to add a detail to that as well. Actually, we have a little situation going on here. Um, I did not notice that. So let's fix this real quick. So all we have to do to fix this is your awesome extra lines. I'm going to make these lives continue there and let's continue. It connects, and I think we're good now. It's just easy race or tool. And there we go. You made him fully connect. That's much better. Okay, so now let's go back to selecting all of our services and every ridge and every hit. We don't need this like the valleys just of ridges and hips. And now let's go back to our roof details. Presets. We're going to select that standing seen one, and it's make sure that the scene thicknesses sets one, and let's go over here to add details and just click OK. Fences and Context: now, since we will be seeing inside of this house just a little bit, I want to add a little bit of detail inside. Even though I'm not going to go through all the designing of interior, we are going to design enough that when we look through, we can see what's going on. So let's let our roof and hide it or we can go to our tags and go to roof and we'll shut it off. But let's first go back to our wall there and now this high our roof and now we can see inside her house. So that's DoubleClick. Teoh access this group, and first thing I want to do when we see services blinking like that, it's because there are two services on top of each other. All those making into group and let's delete that line and cabinets are 36 inches high for your countertop is 36 inches and we come down 1.5 for our countertops height. And then we know that we have a wall cabinets on this wall. So I'm gonna go here and we're gonna go up 16 inches, families 18 and has come up 30 inches and let's go in and close this and those will be are tall cabinets and wall cabinets. And let's apply a color to these. Let's go to you. Materials can and will just add just random color here, and I'll just edit it, kind of just make it there we go just a just a different color, and let's make our tops even another color as well. We'll just go with a great stone for that tops. And let's do the same thing here for our island. So just create out rectangle. We're gonna come up 36 inches, come down 1.5. Yeah, we could push it in to where it needs there, there. And what we can do now is let it slip that all will apply this material to it. It would de select here, and I think we missed one item there. Well, just grab that. Here we go. Okay, Just a quick block out of our kitchen. So when we're looking through, we can kind of see that something is going on there and won't be able to tell too much detail. And nothing I'm gonna do is let's add a floor. So let's go to are four coverings or would and let's, uh, use just are standard would here and there, Riggio. And it looks like it's still overlapping. Something there, which is our slab. That's correct. That's right. We forget about the slab that's behind here. Let's go. Let's do that hard that and double click this lab click. Select that surface and delete it. And now let's go back to our walls. Let's add some would to that something is not right. Zoom in. Here we go and let's change it. So that's not so bright of a wood and actually just find a better would. And this is where your customer tears will come in handy. So here we have some nicer selections. Let's just do maybe trying this. Let's go 20 feats can change the direction of it. They're kind of locks into you at 90 degrees. That's not where we want. It takes a position. You can pick whatever type of would you want to show in your house Or if you want something dark, you could do that as well. Let's add some curtains to our walls here. So for curtains again, we can go to three d warehouse and just type in curtains and find some current is that we can place in our window and We don't want anything Teoh detailed, but something that will at least show something's going on there. Now, if you want to get this plug in, this is again a value. Architects plug in part of their architecture plug ins that the offer and allows you to do lots of different types of fences. Lots of difference, a lot, a lot of different ways. You can manipulate him so very cool plugging. So now let's do that. All right, so here we have the plugging fence. Let's say make fence. Now that I have a selected as a group and let's go to the styles and actually let's make sure I have it right thing selected. So railing I don't want to do really is. I want to do a wood fence. Now, if you've been following along and creating some of these extra models. And I did a swell Let's go ahead and use those to basically create a little neighborhood. So I'm gonna do is I'm gonna grab this site block that I did here and let's make some copies of it. It won't make it on both sides of our model here pain. And she would do one more. And let's move this house to sit right on top of this, um, slab that we have here. And since it is the same house, they should all line up. There we go select everything, and we have one more here. Basically, we just created a whole little neighborhood, okay? And we could also click Select our fences well and drag that. There we go. If you created, if not weaken, just work with the one house that we have here. But just for some nice context, let's add some different materials and just create a little neighborhood here and let's Then when you're done, let's jump to the next lesson 17. Vegetation Sun Effect and Styles: Okay, so now I have all my house is here with some different materials on them, just to make them just slightly different. And just give it that nice neighborhood feel now for this one right here. This is the one that we are working with. Let's go ahead and add some landscaping to this now. To do that, let's go to three D warehouse over here in our window and go to three D warehouse. Now three D Warehouse has hundreds, if not thousands of models, and you can find almost anything you're looking for. So if I was looking for a tree, you just scroll through. There's so many different types of trees to get. You could get more specific and type something like an oak tree and find even mawr. And there's also some interesting things we can do here. We can change the file sizes. Um, one thing to keep in mind is what trees. When you're dealing with a three d tree, it can have a lot of three D elements to it, which can really slow down your file. So sometimes it's good to get a nice to de tree. If it's just something you're gonna have in the background. Don't don't get anything that's overly complicated, that it's just gonna bog down your file and really unnecessarily. So just look through there and you can also let's see, weaken tight bushes and you can find other stuff that you like here here is actually a good little assortment of bushes, which we can go here and just click download. And we can download these directly into our model. And let's see what these look like once we get him in here and we'll see if we want to use them or not. And they actually look pretty good. Pretty nice quality. And actually, I think I will use some of these. So what we're gonna do is let's play some of these along our walkway and gravel over here. So to do that, let's just grab this one. Use a move, move command and now let's scale it down. And I'm actually going to cut it from this group that it's ends. I'm gonna get it cut. It was escape, and that was just edit paste in place. And there we have that that plant. Let's move these out of the way for Now let's see if we can place this right where we want it. So this is Grab it on the end and let's kind of bring it over here. And now this is Ah, a little trick. I'm going to show you to get them to be spaced nicely in your model. So I'm gonna grab it and hit control to make a copy and drag it all the way to the end. And now I'm going to say divide by, Let's say five. And there we go. So it divided it into five. Equal space is so pretty Nice little spacing there. Now, one thing we may want to do is so that they do not look so uniform. That's just really not how plants grow and how they look. So it's kind of change them a little bit so that they're not completely identical. So do that. I'm just gonna rotate him slightly and let's just say in just a little bit of a random direction, just so that it gives them more of a natural feel and I will move those back into place in minutes. And another thing we can do is also change the heights or scales of each one of these just gives it a little bit of a mawr natural feel. Okay, so now let's let's move these and make sure we kind of get that, have them in the right spacing and it doesn't have to be perfect is just like nature. Nature just takes its own past sometimes, so all right, so now let's look at it, and that looks a little bit better. We don't see him repeating so much, and I like that a lot better. So I have a file that I've created over time, and it's nothing used but just a couple of plants that I like to use. For instance, this one right here and this is just a little template, Father I created for myself and we'll grab some plants from here. And these are all from three D warehouse that I've just gathered over time, and it doesn't have to be anything overly complex and just find something that you like that are not too big of files that you can easily place in your models. Let's go back here and I'm going to hit. Was that it? Paste the this back in. I'm gonna places along this wall here and let's see if we want to change the scale. Yeah, that seems a little bit too big. So let's scale it down and maybe about there. And then let's copy this all way to the end, and then I'm going to divide this by 12 okay? And then now that's kind of randomize it again. Let's first change the scale of some of these, and I'm just gonna play around with some of the different scaling mechanisms. We can grab it when we grab it from a corner here. It does a uniform scale. We grab it from the middle of kind of just squishes it down. So just a couple different options that you could do just kind of make him look a little more random. And, of course, we can rotate him as well. So it's going to do that, too. We just wanted to have more of a natural look to home, just go through. Kind of just going through every other one and modifying them slightly. And this Move this one CEO. All right. Just kind of is a group. So I edit copy. Let's paste this into our model and it paste and again they just I believe, I think they're mainly just different types of oak trees and just something that I can place my model and just kind of hide back there to kind of create that barrier or you do not see the horizon line. So if we look at our house on the I from my level there, it looks a lot more natural. And I think that's good. And let's place a couple more trees in the front yard here so to do that. But go back to Temple that I have. And let's see if we can grab a tree to put in our front yard and we'll grab one of these smaller ones here. And that might be enough. A copy. It's paste this into our model. You don't just put this closer to the front of our yard. We do another one over here on this side. Okay. All right. So looking good. Now, one more thing I can do is I can also change the sky and the style of my drawing. So to do that, let's go over here and let's go to styles. And here we have some basic default styles that we have. And let's see, we have one here. There we go. We have more of a blue sky and you can play with the East to see what styles you might like to show for your drawing. There's one. It's really blue. Um, let's go to go about their and then another thing. I want changes. I don't like how think these lines are showing. So here we go toe edit. And here we can change or even remove the profile edges so that we just have a nice clean line on our edges there. And then nothing else is selected. We don't have endpoints or anything selected, so that was good. Okay, Now let's go a step further and add some shadows to do that. I'm gonna go back over here to my tray, and here we have shadows. And if you're not seeing some of these in your tray, just go Teoh window D faltering and make sure shadows is checked or any other. These is check that you may not be seeing in your trade. Okay, so let's go over here and let's turn on shadows by clicking this button here and there We see we have our shadows in our drawing now and they're just makes it pop a lot Mawr. And here we can change some of these parameters as well. We could change the darkness of those shadows. We could change just the overall light and darkness of our scene. And then here we could change the time of day. So there is changing the direction of the sun, and here is we can change the date. So basically, this kind of just changing the time of year of where you're where your model is placed. So it just changes the sun angle again when you do this. So let's get the sun coming in from an angle mawr less this way. So let's see if I could get the sun to do that. And there it is. Okay, so right about there. All right. So looking pretty good, I think. And now let's belong to the next step 18. Human Scale and Camera Settings: Okay. So in addition to the vegetation, I also like to place people in our models because it really gives a scale, a sense of scale to your you're drawing you're building. So it's always good to put a person in a truths of life size. So let's say this person right here let's use this measure tool and we'll see if we can kind of, I guess, a little bit how tall she is. And there we were, getting less. Actually, we have to draw a line, so we draw a line from the top to bottom and then we can measure it and there were showing five foot 4.5 inches. So that's a reasonable height for a person that we can place in our model and get a sense of actual scale. Ah, human scale. And nothing we can do is let's insert a car into our driveway here. And to do that, I'm gonna go to three D warehouse, and I'm going to type in a see a Corvette, just actually one of my new favorite cars, and I'm going to go ahead and say, Yes, I want to place this directly into my model, and this is a pretty big file. So you want to be careful again what's have a computer you're running to make sure that you can actually play some of these items in here and there It was actually read, but I inserted earlier and actually changed its a white. So, um, I think I like the white better kind of masters of my house a little better as well. Doesn't pop so much. So very nice. And this is actually a fantastic model. So kudos to whoever created this model and sketch up. It's absolutely amazing. So, um okay, so we have our person in there. We have our home with our vegetation, and here we have our shadows. We turn that on and just something you want to keep in mind. If your computer is lagging a little bit and you don't need your shadows on, I would leave those those off because your model will move so much smoother with your shadows off. So unless you need it, keep shadows off. But when you're trying to get that final image, go ahead and turn those shadows on. You can kind of get that final look. You're going for. Okay, So now we have our model with our vegetation and our scale, human scale figures. We have a person in our car and we have our shadows. So let's get this in the perspective that best shows the house. So I want to show I kind of want to highlight this entrance feature here. And, you know, we took some time and we did those soffits, so I kind of wanna get a view where I can see under those. So to do that, what I'm gonna do is just my camera setting here. So I want him. I'm going. Teoh, adjust the field of view. So we go over here and I click feel of you. And then what I do to injustices. I click and drag my mouse. And there it kind of gives us a more of ah, perspective there. I could kind of start. I'm starting to see underneath, and I don't want to get too crazy with it, cause we don't want it to be totally unrealistic type of view. But we do want it. Teoh be good enough where you can get a good feel of what's going on with House and I think that's pretty nice right there. We see just enough where we can see some of that nice would underneath our soffit. And now I'm going to go ahead and save the scene by going to camera. I'm sorry, going to view animation, add scene, and we'll just hit, create scene. And then here in our scenes category in our default ray, it created a thumbnail of that scene. So here we have it right here, and we can rename. This is well, we can click. Um, we can click here to get more info. And then here we have the name and we can call this one our run perspective. And there's something else we could do to kind of just this even Mawr. And that is, if I go to camera two point perspective. And then what that does is it straightens out all my vertical lines so that there's no kind of ah, a warmth perspective. So it just gives it that straight on look Okay, so I think that looks pretty good and we can create a couple mawr scenes. Let's say if we want to get closer, let's come over here and maybe get one looking from here. And then to say that I could just go over here and right click add scene, and it will save our new seem here, and it seems impossible there. We can call this, um, are entry walk perspective. Okay, Now, to save these images so that you get a really nice high quality you want to go to file export to D graphic? Now you don't just want to save it immediately. What you want to make sure is when you go to options down here, you want to make sure that your pixels are saved to a very high number and then you don't you want to make sure that this is not click the use view size because then it's gonna lock you in and you won't not. You will not be able to change these numbers. So unclipped that and then let's change this to about 5000 and then we can leave everything else the same J pay compression. Just put it all the way up and then just, um, okay, and we'll just save this on our desktop for now, and we'll call this our perspective, okay? And just give it a second. It'll save it and then we'll take a peek at what that looks like. Let's go ahead and minimize, and there it is. And there we have our rendering so we can resume, and we can see that the quality really is pretty nice of that image. Now, if you're new to sketch up, make sure you check that J peg, um, the quality level so that you can really bring it up to a high level, or you will get image that does not look very flattering. Your lines will be a little bit rougher looking, and it just will not have that nice, clean, crisp look. 19. 016 BONUS LECTURE Rendering in Lumion: So that is how you create a three D model from a sooty plan in schedule. Now, what I like to do is I like to create photo realistic renderings from my schedule models by bringing them into a three D rendering software such as Lumia. Now, to do that, what I want to do is I'm going to turn off all my vegetation that I've used from sketch up . And the reason why I'm doing that is because Lumi on has its own vegetation that I want to use. So I'm just going to go over here entity and just place those all on a layer that I can have off. And then I will import this model into Lumi on where I can create that photo Realistic rendering. Okay, so now that all those layers are on this s tree layer, let's turn them off and then let's go to save. And then we will go into Lumi on where we will import it. Now let's open up gloomy on 10. Now, if you're not familiar with Lumi on Lumi On is a standalone software that allows you to import sketch of models and models from other rendering programs bring him into Lumi on and add lots of effects to it. Lighting vegetation allows you to create some fantastic animations and just quite a bit of stuff. Stuff you can do that you can't do with just schedule alone. So it's ah, a little bit of a pricey program, but definitely easy to use and worth it if you can get it. So let's open up a new file for Lumi on. I'm gonna start a new project and we will just start with a blank template. We'll just use this plane one, and then we will import our schedule model into this template. Okay, so now it's import our sketch of model. Okay, so we're just gonna place this anywhere in this model, and I want to use this command here to raise it up just slightly above our our grass here. And so the first thing I want to do is add some really sky effect to it. So here I'm gonna go to weather and click on riel Skies. And then let's kind of orient the sun in the angle where we like better. And we'll use that for now. And we could also click here. And there's many different types of skies that we can select for Lumi on, and we'll just work with that for now. Now what I want to do is do the same thing. I did a sketch up. I'm going to add some vegetation around this. So let's go to our objects nature, and we'll go to our placement feature here and let's see what we want 1st 1st let's do some clusters. Kind of see where I'm placing them and kind of get further back from it just kind of surround our environment here. Okay, let's get out of that. And let's see what it looks like from the eye level. Okay, that's not too bad. So now let's add vegetation in here now . The next thing I want to do is add some effects to all my materials in my model in Lumi on . So let's go through that and any our materials Now, Now the next thing I want to do in my model is to add some lighting. So to do that when you go to my lighting tab here and I'm going to also change the time of day so that we can get a better feel of what our lives are going to look like in our model . - Now the next step is to bring it into our photo settings and add some effects. And once you have your photo rendering set, how you want it, the next step is just to click to render the photo, and we just do a photo set and we'll do it, rendering print quality. We'll just call it our house rendering and then just let it go. And once your final rendering is complete, you can still bring it into a photo editing software. And here I'm just using the simple Windows editing software just to make some minor adjustments to the images. Just maybe brighten them up. Or just add a little bit mawr detail in the shadows. You can probably get into photo shop if you like, or if you just like it exactly how it is, then you are done. So that's the entire lesson. We've gone from two D to three D and even created a photo realistic rendering of our home.
