1. Singing class intro: Hello, my Skillshare students. Thank you for coming to this class today. Music and singing has always brought such a joy to my life. It has been a part of me. Well, it is it's a gifting that has been there since birth. And I have thoroughly enjoyed having this talent. I started voice lessons when I was six years old. I been immutable productions and even toured as a singer all over the US. If you clicked on the title, it's probably because you'll want to learn how to be a singer. And I believe that singing has many different facets. So you can want to be a singer because you want to get into performance and singing. And you could also want to be a singer just for your everyday life, just so that your voice sounds more lovely for the people that you seek to. And that's actually a really good thing. Because in the psychology world, singing is known to be healing to your nervous system, to be calming. And it also Call me to the mutable that you're seeing. In this class. What you can expect is several lessons that takes you through just the fundamentals of singing. Well, it's nothing too fancy. It's not necessarily about stage performing. It's just some basic singing instructions that will help you have better sound quality. Just a lovely or sound for the people in your life that you sing too. So I hope you enjoy this class. Thank you for being here. And if you're interested in becoming a better singer, please keep watching. 2. Posture: The first thing you want to think about in the foundations of good singing is your posture. So to demonstrate this, I'm going to turn show you. Okay, so this is not good posture. First of all, it just makes you look kind of not competence and it doesn't support good breath. And it just won't support a good sound if you're slept, slumped over like this. So what you want is to be in a competent physician as you're being cognizant about your singing posture. It doesn't need to be forced just gently and confidently upright, which will support a good singing sound. And it will also make you look confident as you sing for others. 3. Breath: Okay, let's move on to the second most foundational aspect of good-quality singing, and that is your breath. So allow me again to demonstrate. When you're breathing as you sing. There's a technique that allows you to have a strong support and sound. You want to breathe from your diaphragm. So let me demonstrate first again how not to do it. So you do not want to breathe. When you're taking your breath to sing a phrase, you do not want to read like, notice it's my chest this movie. So when you're doing chest breaths, you're, you're not getting as much of a strong supported sound. What you want is a diaphragm breath. So again, I'm going to turn and show you. So you want to fill up your stomach with air and then support it. The sound from your diaphragm. In order to practice this breadth technique, place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. And as you breathe, notice your stomach fills up with air. And I know that this might not be great for your physique, but it is what you need to have a high-quality scenes out. So let me demonstrate that to you. That's the kind of breadth you want. Alright, let's do an exercise that demonstrates the quality of support that comes from the diaphragm. So fill your stomach up with air and go. Kind of like karate or martial arts. So when they go, It's the same exact concept. In fact, because you want the power of your breath to come from your diaphragm and not from up here in your chest. So let me demonstrate also the sound quality. When I seen from my chest breath. Sounds alright, but it's just kinda sounds weak and not support it. But same exact tone. The cosine tone from a diaphragm. Breath sounds like sounds like. Notice first of all, the tongue body is better, but also the longevity of the phrase. 4. Vocal range: The next concept of singing is VO, home range and how to support the different ranges so that the sound sounds equally good in your lower range as a year, a higher rate. So we always return back to the breath and the posture and the vowel tone for everything. But for the lower tones, you want to think more about almost like warm molasses when you're seeing the lower-income. Like Swing low, sweet, a common border. So it's, the lower notes are more down in your soul. And then when you think about higher notes, then you eat. I was taught by my original voice coach that higher notes you think about it like a candy cane. Like you are just taking that no, and just throwing it as high as you can over that candy cane. You can also think about it like shooting a basketball way up high. And the concept of seeking higher. You want to bring in more up into the upper part of your being. As you go to project the sound, imagine that you are throwing that basketball. And as you throw the basketball, that is the sound projecting out into the world. 5. Pronunciation: Now I want to talk about another, I think, very, very important aspect of goods seeing. And that is pronunciation or diction, as they would call it. I think so many songs are lost in translation because they're just simply not sung proper pronunciation. So you can't understand what Singer is saying. And I thought I could share some examples, but I might get flagged with copyrights. But I think you guys know, I mean, I think a perfect example might be like Footloose. You really even know that the actual words to that song, everybody interprets it differently. And that could have been remedied with better pronunciation. So let's practice pronunciation. So let me again demonstrate or pronunciation. I'm going to do a very common exercise for and that's lips, the teeth, the ticket tip of the tongue. Isn't that perfect? Okay, so poor pronunciation. Let us use the tip of this happens. Okay? So you probably could sort of understand what I was saying. But it's kinda slurred is not very pronounced. So when you think about pronunciation, think about using all of the muscles of your mouth and your tongue, your cheeks, your lips, your tongue. So say that with me. The lips, the teeth, the tip of the tongue, the tip of the tip of the tip of the tongue. And this is kind of might seem extreme and strange and it might even feel very weird at first. But that is what is necessary for high-quality pronunciation in singing. So that people can understand the words that you're singing and then therefore gain the meaning of the song. In order to improve your diction, you can utilize techniques and practice every day. 6. Practice: Practice is the best way to get better at anything. So your assignment for this class is to practice. Each thing that you have learned from the lessons in this class. Practice your posture. Practice, your tummy breaths. Practice projecting in your vocal range, and practice pronunciation. As you're being cognizant about your singing posture. It doesn't need to be forced just gently and competently upright, which will support a good singing sound. And it will also make you look confident as you sing for others. In order to practice this breadth technique, place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. And as you breathe, notice that your stomach fills up with air. As you go to project the sound. Imagine that you are throwing that basketball. And as you throw the basketball, that is the sound projecting out into the world. In order to improve your diction, you can utilize techniques and practice every day. 7. Class conclusion: Thank you for being in today's class. Sing to the one you love. And I will see you again in class very soon.
