1. Welcome!: hi ever on my name's Kelly Newberry and I'm from Potato Plant. Today I'm going to show you how to make a beautiful natural posey of flowers. So I've been living in apartments in the last 14 years, and I'm really passionate about finding ways to bring the outdoors in on. One of the easiest ways to do that is by having beautiful fresh flowers in the home. It will brought in up any space. In today's class, you will learn Flores trees secrets, including how to prepare your flowers, created gorgeous arrangement and how to care feel display to keep it looking lively and sprightly for as long as possible. This class is designed for absolute beginners. No experience is necessary. Anyone can create a beautiful posey. I won't be using any scientific or technical language in this clause. It really is designed for people who have no experience working with flowers. Now the natural just picked look is very in for flowers right now, which means we don't want anything to be perfect. We just wanted to look good Now. The difference between a Posey and a traditional bouquet of flowers is that a posey is generally a smaller arrangement, and it's generally arranged in a dorm shape. So in Rome now and let's get started learning tips and tricks to create a beautiful floral arrangement.
2. Everything you need: all right. First up, we're going to have a look at what materials you'll need for this class. It's a good idea to have everything out and ready to go so that you're not fumbling around while you're holding your posey. Now the first thing to think about is what sort of a vessel you want to put the pros e into . So there's a few different ideas. You can use a glass container that square, which is what I'll be using today. I like how they look. You can use a sort of fish bowl or or any sort of glass. Dear Shore, if you're going for more of a rustic look, you can also use a glass job. Next up. We need out ribbon that we will tie out Posey with so you can use ribbon. Or you can use twine depending on the look of your crazy. So what I recommend is cutting it so that it's ready to go. The last thing you want is to be fumbling around, trying to cut ribbon while you're holding a posey. We've also got some Flores tree scissors. Now you can get these for as little as $10 So if you are going to be doing a lot of flower arranging, I do recommend investing in a pair or make your life much easier. And we also just need to use a knife to death on any roses. This is a bunch of flowers I got from my local supermarket, so I'm very lucky in the ass. Supermarket stocks really beautiful and healthy flowers, but you can get them from grocery stores, supermarkets or flores, so I'll start to get them all out to give you an idea of what we've got. So we've got different sorts of maple leaves, speech, all sorts of different college. This is to give you a really nice green looking rosy. It's a good idea to separate them all out, so you know what you're working with. We've got spray roses, peonies. Be careful. If you're working with roses, they are very thorny. So once you got all of your materials out that you'll be using, it's time to start preparing the flowers and the college
3. Preparing your flowers: Okay, so first up will prepare our college. So to get started, we're looking to ensure that there's enough space on the stem to be able to really tie into the pros e. So we're ripping off any leaves that we don't need. You can also split the stems into small a bit so split them up and then my stripping off any excess leaves. So as you're doing this, it's important to make sure there's enough space to tie your posey so you might feel like you're taking off too many leaves. But when you think about it, really, only this top it's going to be visible. So don't be afraid to really strip back the leaves. - So once you have stripped back all the leaves so that you've just got the sort of top half of the college still with leaves, then you're sort of ready to move on to the flowers as we prepare the flowers. We do similar things to what we did with college and that we stripped back the leaves if we think that they're sort of low or they're not really adding anything to the flower. So as you can see, we do tend to strip a fair bit back so that we've got very long stems toe work with. As you can see with this one here, there's multiple stems on the one flower, so it's okay to separate it out so that you have three or four, or however many different flowers. You don't want any forks like this beneath the fold, where you tie your rosy off, so separate them out. Remove those leaves. Now we're moving on to preparing the roses. Now you might be. Obviously, there are some very nasty little thorns along the stem, so it's really important we take the time to remove them because you don't want to be getting spiked by those things. The easiest way is just with any sort of normal life to just running up and down the stem to really cut those little spines off. Now you want to be doing this very gently. We're not trying to carve off bits of the skin. If you have any stubborn ones, you can use the sharp end of the knife to just cut those off. And like I said, we're not trying to peel off any off the stem. We're just trying to get rid of those little nasty spines. Make sure you handle them with care because they can be very shop. These little spines, this'll one has much more than the last one. So we'll take a bit of care making sure we get rid of those wins. All right now, we've prepared both the flowers and the college. It's on to the construction off the Posey.
4. Putting your posy together: Okay, So today, to make our posey, we're going to use a technique called Strauss E. Now I swear that's the only technical term will use throughout this class. So don't worry. Stressing basically means using a spiral technique to create a posey. So let's get started. The first thing you need to do is pick up your biggest sort of bits of college. So for me, it's these leaves here, and what we're doing is we need to overlay them over each other, and this is where it gets a bit tricky. We need to make sure that the right leaf or follow Justin is over the left in a cross like this, and you need to think about how high you want your pro Z to be. Poses as general rule are quite small. So we want to be making sure that we're not sort of down here working. Rather, we're working up quite close to the top, so we've got out right over our left, and most people do find it easier to work with the Posey held in their left hand. Let's get started. So basically, what we do is we want to pick our focal flower teammate. That's going to be this beautiful panty rose here. So to get started, we want to sort of position at somewhere. We're going for a natural look, so you don't want it to be in the center that can look quite contrived. And we're not trying to weave it in between the stands or anything like that. We're simply shooting it through as if it was almost an hour. So to begin with, you will be using these three fingers to sort of maneuver things and gradually just add more and more flowers, making sure that they're following this spiral sort of trend. So, as you can see there either wrapped around or will wrap a few over the top as well. - So , as you can see, we're starting to get a little bunch of flowers and college. Now, you may have noticed that I can only really work on this top half off the pros E. So at some stage, we do need to turn the posey round. Now, as you can see, what sort of got this spiral look around the stands? The easiest way to turn it is simply Teoh rotated into your right hand gripping where all of the stems are and then slotting it back into your left hand. Now, it could be very scary turning a posey when you're quite new because you don't want to lose all of your hard work. But you just need to get it done. Now pick comprising out to look at it and see how it's traveling. And as you can see, we've sort of got the spiral effect off the stem. So you need to really make sure you keep that up for stressing. Now I'm being naughty. I'm squeezing it really tight. You need to hold it rather as a circle, because if you don't, you won't get that beautiful dome Look over the top. If you squeeze it, you'll get a sort of more of a rectangular look. So do hold it in a nice circular circular shake, and you may need to turn it again. So I'm getting a bit purple heavy, so on for a couple of of the tips of the trade. So these are the secrets that you might not find out about unless you do a class like this . So I've got a few tips to help you the 1st 1 was to ensure that you're holding your grip in a circular way rather than squeezing the stems really tight. The next tip that I'd like to share is if you have to big feature flowers like these roses , for example. I always recommend grouping them together. Now, the reason I recommend you do that is if you don't, you end up with what can look like two eyes staring back out at you from your posey. So you want to make sure you do group them together so that they sort of have a nicer look . So we've gotten quite purple heavy on this side of the Posey. So we will use these yellow roses to really bring that back down, turn it back down. And as we're going, we're looking at our Posey to see how it's all coming together. We may need to turn it again. Bring it back into your left hand looking up at it. Now, I have saved a lot of this phone to go around the edge. Now you want to be careful. Another tip is you don't want to end up with a color around the edge. Otherwise, your rosy might start to look a bit like Kermit the Frog. So that's why I won't some through as we went. But now I'm going to start, really bring it together. Another tip of the trade is every Posey will go through and messy state. You'll start to think, Why am I doing this? I should just give up. It looks like a net, but I promise it will come back together when you tie it at the end. And my last tip is to make sure that if you're using a few different colors that you sort of balance them out across the posey. This will make it look like a more sort of polished design rather than something that's just been throwing together once. We've got a Posey that we're happy with, and we think it's starting to look nice. We come on to the part where we need to tie off out Posey now. This is often the scariest part because we don't want to lose all of our hard work. So making sure you still got that circular group with your hand, grab your piece of ribbon that you've got pre prepared hold on to their pace with one thumb and wrap it around. So as you can see, I've got the longer part on the left hand side. Now where, and it's above my hands, don't be tying below the hand, so wrap it and pull it really tight. Now, if you don't do this tight enough, you risk your flowers slipping later on, and if you do it too tight, you can cut the stem. So it's really important to get this tension right now, I will say, is going to be tighter than you expect. So wrapping around nice and tight, do it a second time and pull it really taught again and at least 1/3 time and pull that really tight. Now you should be able to lie your posey on the table and tie it off. If when you do that all your flowers slipped, then you haven't tied it tight enough and you'll need to tie it tighter. So let's go. We'll put it down on the table gently, gently, and as you can see, it's not slipping. We're tying it off really tight in a double knot. At least now we're picking up and looking at out crazy. What we're doing here is we're making sure that nothing is hidden. So, for example, you can see this little pink wrote spray Rose here is really of it. Buried beneath out gorgeous purple flowers. So we're just doing a little bit of repositioning when making sure we've got that nice sort of dorm shape. Yep. The last thing you'd want is for a really expensive, beautiful Reuters or pani to be hidden by foliage. So we're just checking to make sure that we can see everything which we can. Now the next stage is to cut the stems and put out Posey into its vessel.
5. The finishing touches: when we're cutting out stems, we don't want to cut too much off because you can't had stemmed back in. But if you don't cut enough off, you can easily cut more. So always proceed with a bit of caution here, Way one asked them to be roughly the same. Now place it into your a glass vessel and see how it sits so we can see with mine. It's falling to the side. I've not cut the stems short enough. What we want is for the flowers to just comfortably sit on the lip off that of your vessel , and we want to make sure that the stems aren't actually touching the base. So we need to cut a bit more off and then try again. Just check that none of those stands a touching the bottom, and there you have it, a beautiful natural Posey arrangement that anyone can do. You do not need to be a trained Flores. You can get started today and create your own gorgeous arrangement. Next up. 6. Caring for your posy: All right. So on the secret of how to keep your posey looking beautiful for as long as possible. Fresh water every day. That's it. There is no secret ingredient. I don't want you to add sugar. I don't want you to add fertiliser. I don't want you to do anything like that. Just change its water every single day. And if you're feeling really dedicated, wipe out the glass vessel and make sure it's nice and clean before you refill it with the fresh water. The flowers just want beautiful fresh water, so that's all you need to do to keep your arrangement looking great for as long as possible .
