About This Class

Soldering is great fun and opens up a whole new world in jewellery making, but sometimes it's just as great to use materials that don't stand the heat! That's where rivets come in - a cold connection technique that holds layers of a jewellery design together without the need for a blowtorch.

This is the first class in a series that will teach you all you need about riveting. We'll start with simple wire rivets that I will use to hold pretty silver flowers firmly in place on smooth wooden beads - however you could use them to layer copper onto brightly coloured acrylic, patterned pieces cut from a recycled biscuit tin onto silver or leather and metal. The only limit is your imagination and riveting is a great way of using upcycled materials!

Future classes in the series will take you through how to add two perfect rivets, how and when to use one or more decorative rivets and also rivets made from tube. More videos with extra projects to help you practice your new skills will then follow!

I have been making jewellery for as long as I can remember, and have been passing these wonderful (and addctive!) skills on through my classes for nearly 20 years. I am self-taught and like many people I started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making! There is something so magical about watching solder flow through a seam, joining two pieces of metal together smoothly.

My studio is in Southampton, on the South Coast of the UK. I design and make jewellery for galleries across the UK, teach regular and popular jewellery design workshops, and also offer private tuition. My jewellery design projects have been published in both UK and US magazines and books.

1. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets: Hello, My name's John Tinley. I would resign and tutor for the Southwest UK. Welcome to the first serious classes that's going to teach you all about riveting most of my jewelry. France's focus on soldering, which is a fantastic technique at once you learn how to soldier, it really does open up a whole right new world in jewelry thinking. However, sometimes it's nice to use materials that well, to be honest, they can't stand the heat from the blowtorch. What we would piece is off acrylic sheet on maybe up cycled pieces like fabric, leather buttons, maybe, or shells things that you found that would make be useful piece of jewelry. Well, that's my merits. Come in. They are cold collection techniques that allow you to join together different layers of material securely so that you could use some jewelry making. This first class is going to focus on the simplest, riveting technique making wire rivets. I'm going to use one. Why rivet on each of a pair of earrings to hold a states of a flower on to beat. Now the little beet itself can't soldiers silver onto it, so move It is perfect. In this occasion, on the head of the river, etc. Events in front. It's going to fall. Center off the silver flower. As you work your way through this course with me, you'll learn how to use more than one wife riveting work on why it's useful to do so times and also have to make your designs fancier by using decorative rivets. We'll also be covering how to use tube to my equipment's instead of just using what on may be a serious of projects as well. If you work your way through to to really hone your skills, however, this course of really is just focus on riveting techniques. I might adding a few extra skills like that. Groups making air wires and making head pens. But techniques that needed a bit more explanations, such as story shapes, ounces silver sheet. I'm not going to focus in these classes, however, in the information for each chance I will link to other classes that will take you through other techniques that you might find you sort of. So if you're ready, let's have a look at materials and equipment that we're going to need to make simple y rivets 2. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - materials: thesis materials that you're going to need to make a project for this first riveting class . The base of the earrings. They're going to be two lovely duck wouldn't beats the ones I've got here are flat squares , obviously, doesn't matter what shape you choose, but the important thing is that there is still plenty of room on the surface of the bead. This is away from the hole that runs through the beat so I can draw through the bead in a place toe Ach the silver flower decoration without affecting the whole in the beat. But I said, I'm going to be adding to little silver flowers to the beach. I've really cut these out of serving silver sheet. I cut them out of no 0.5 millimeters sheet, a piece of scrap that have been left over from another project, and I've given them a nice, hammered finish that will catch the light beautifully. Now, I'm not going to cover soaring out and fishing silver flowers in this class because I have got plenty of other classes that cover sawing out metal. I will this those video classes in the information for this class so that you can find them easily. I'm also going to attach a pdf with hints and tips to help you get the best start of your soaring to this class. The last material that you're going to need is some not 0.8 millimeter solely silver. Why, obviously not as much as you can see here, but I get through quite a lot of no 0.8 millimeter wire side biting quite quite a bit real . I'm going to be using this to form the rivet two for the hedge pain that that is going to go through the wooden beats and also to form the air wise. 3. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - equipment: thing is the equipment that we're going to need to make the riveted flower earrings. If your project like mind uses the shape cutout is sterling silver sheet, then you're going to need a jurist sore on day saw Blade a bench Pake andan April Underneath the venture paid to catch the dust so you can cut the shape out. You can also use that your sore to cut out pieces of aluminium sheet sections off no decorated biscuit tin or something of a similar nature. Because remember, this class is teaching you how to do a cold connection to add together layers of items that can't actually be soldered together so you don't actually have to use a piece of silver for the top layer. I filed my flowers for the needle file on. I'm also going to use that to follow the end. Why that I'm going to use to create the rivets. I also gave the flowers a homage texture with small ball peen hammer, and I arrested them on the seal bench book with the leather cushion underneath whilst I hammered. I've got two other hammers here as well. I've got a riveting hammer, which is a nice lightweight hammer with a cross pinhead. Andi, I've also got a passion hammer with a large round head. I'm going to use punishing Hammer to help finish off the year wives for these earrings. I'm going formally, ear wise, around a step Mandrell or the Remember you could just as easily used the barrel of a sharply to do that. The shop itself is there to mark the length of the riveted to help me trim it to size. I'm obviously going to use the wire cutters to catch the wild, so I'm using toe length on the round nose pliers. The flat nose pliers and the nine on your pliers are there to form both the white and the rivets. I wish a small clamps that clamp sounds the side of my work desk, and I'm going to use that toe. Hold the wire as I form of the first side of the rivet on the reel of tape. Is there because I'm going to use the tape to hold together Milo Silver on the wooden beads that's going to make up the earrings told him together as a drilling through to prepare for the rivet. I'm going to use my school bench drill to drill through the bead on the silver. But a hands drill would work just as well. I'm going to be using a north 0.8 millimeter Drillbit. And this is very important because you must make certain that the whole that you drill. If the same gauge as the thickness of why that you're using to create the rivet. It will mean that the riveters, a very tight fit on, did that you might needed over toe wiggling to get it to fit through the hole. But its this tight fit that helps to hold everything safely and firmly together. 4. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - a few pieces from the soldering kit: Although we're not gonna be doing any soldiering on this project, you are going to need a few bits as the soldering kit to make the hedge pins. Of course you can if you want to choose to buy the head pains instead. But it's fun to make them. I've got a pair of er section trees is hold the while I'm working with it and a pair of brass tweezers to put the white in and out of the pickle. The tweeters are sitting on a couple of soldiering bricks on bond. They are intensity young, couple off site tiles order that she's going to add a bit of fireproofing to my work desk. We're just going to need a small blowtorch for the project, but I've got the high technical quench pot for cold water on my slow cooker. But for the safety, Pickle says, I can call the work down and clean it up. Remember, Sterling Silver has got 7.5% copper in it, and that's reacts with the heat and oxygen. The flames because copper oxides, the safety pickle, helps clean out off, and it works best and fastest when it's a war. The plastic sieve is there because it can save you a little bit of time and trouble. I'm going to drop the finished head pins inside the sieve in the quench, protocol them down and then put the sieve in the safety pickle. It would just mean that I don't have to go fishing around at the bottom of the quench pot or the safety pickle forward by small, thin head pins if you're going to follow that tip. So please make sure that your sieve is just plastic. You don't want any metal bits in there. Otherwise, they could cause problems that could actually discolor the silver when it's inside the pickle. Last but definitely not least have safety glasses. You've only got one pair of eyes. Please do look after them. 5. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - preparing the rivets: I'm now going to show you how to start preparing the rivets, ready to threats. Thumb through the sewer flowers on the wooden beats Andi every cut to pieces of why here They're about three centimeters long, which is far longer than I'm going to need, but it's much easier working with a length like this. Well, I think it's It's funny that long, um, showing comparison to the thickness. But the wooden bead. I'm definitely going to need to trim these wives down, but said, it's not easier working with them like this. It's the first things I'm going to do. Please make sure that both ends of the wire for a nice and flat, because that's going to help form the rivets as easily as possible. I'm just using needle file to do that. Have been that piece of why? Well, straight again, certainly speaking, I'm only making a rivet head on one end of this Peter White moment, so need to make sure that one end on each piece is far flat. It just makes it easier. I know that they're both filed flat, so I don't need to keep looking backwards and forwards and finding out which is which. So I've attached my table top clamp to the desk. This is rather nice, one that I can loosen off this section on. The whole thing can turn round if I wanted to. So going to do is clump just one of the pieces of wiring to time. That's is what tour. Okay, so one of the pieces of wire is sitting a little bit proud, not too high, because the higher it is, the more it could move about. So sitting a bit proud, Andi, I'm going to be using riveting hammer now, as you guys have heard me say, in other jewelry classes, Silver moves at right angles to the head of the hammer, and that is how this process of riveting actually starts toe work because we've got across head here on this very light. Hammett's listen light so that you're not not likely to really hit very hard and do damage the pieces. You're doing this delicate, riveting, but it's a across being hammer, so right angles the head of the hammer this scene backs or forwards weapon down, which everyone, because this direction. So what's going to happen is as I hit the head of the hammer on the rivet. It's going to spread. I'm going, going to start hammering it from a different direction, and it's going to start spreading in that direction. I keep working my way round on such spreads and starts to mushroom at the top. We don't need the rivet head to be very big. We just need it to be big enough not to go through the whole. Remember, we're going to drill no 0.8 millimeter holes through the beats and the silver on this. Why is no 0.8 millimeters? He got very tight fitting hole, and you just want to spread it out enough so that it won't go with way through. So where we g o you might find us? You start off that she missed the wire as much as you hit it. It's touch up. Tap, tap tap. It's not big wax. Well, I can restart to feel with my nail. It's a bit. Is the silver spread out good Going just as well. I've got my hand underneath the piece of wise actually sticking down through the clamp on supporting to the bottom as well, because the hammering could push it down with a little bit. So the reason for having the wire a little bit longer so I'm going to do now is just change the other side of the hammer on and much she hammering around the revenge, mushrooming that little bit further down, so encouraging. It's like down with just about making the head of a bit bigger. And that's enough for that first rabbit if you're looking down from the top, he said, it started getting really shiny er because it's being polished up with the hammer. So I watch another rivet to form on the one end of the other piece with wire. I'm going to move the camera before I do that. Say, get a view from a different angle. The different angle this time, looking a bit more from above to help you give you a better or rather, a different view, as this is such a small thing to watch. Onda again going to hammer just spread out the top of the wire Intrav rivet hedge slipped down a little bit and change using the other side, the hammer just carving down they touch. It's a bit more getting to spread out a bit more so I can feel a nice spreading out off the wire all around the top, and that's going to be enough to stop the wire from going all the way through the whole sets. The first rivet head started to be informed. 6. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - drilling: now that the first side of each y riveters made it's time to drill the hole that rivets are going to be passed through. I've already taped one of the silver flowers onto one of the wooden beats. The whole is running through the middle. Andi, I've positioned the silver flatter one side at the bottom of the bead on the whole is going to be drilled in this spot on quarter down here, right through the middle of the flower on it is away from the central hole that's running to the bead. Remember, it's important to if you're using, I wouldn't be like this. It's important to choose Beat that you have got enough surface area that you can do all the whole away from the central hole that the wire the head pin is going to be sweated through . So on each tape up, they flower on this speed as well. I've got the tape holding the silver flower already. So what I want to do is hold it again the bottom quarter and hold some of the tape there. So it's how don temporarily so I can. That would chick beats up against each other because I want them about the same position. I had to move this one across ever so slightly. Okay, I'm happy with that. Remember, I want these to be mirror images of each other. So I've got this flower on the right. This flower Well, the left fold, the wire. So for the tape around the beat. So the two are held together on the reason I'm doing this. Is it with the flower on, though, it's really easy to see that the flower is going to be in the right position on the whole is definitely going to be away from middle second Jewell through the two together. What's a no 0.8 millimeter drill? Bet in my bench drill. Andi have chosen this side of Drillbit because the Y rivet is itself no 0.8 millimeters, and you want the diameter of the rivet on the diameter of the hole to be exactly same. So it's a nice, tight snuck fit. It might take a bit of effort to get the wire rivet through the whole once everything's drilled, but it's going to be worth it to get that nice, tight fit. I was going to move this over slightly so I can access everything best on and just double check that The drill bit coming down a positioned. Everything's the drill bit is coming down in the middle of that silver flower. Of course, the other reason I've taped everything together is that the Silver Flower is really, really small, so difficult to hold on to some drilling. But if it's taped to something bigger that's going to make, my life would be easier. So we turned on the Joe. Now, Andi gently guide the drill bit as it spins through the silver and then the wood. They can see the darker saw just there on top of the silver flower showing have gone all the way through on and might just be able to see the whole just about there. So did the same to the 2nd 1 again take time to make sure that it's sets up nicely. So can they take take these apart? The reason I like Magic Scott to take full room for jobs like this is that it is easy to take off. He can reposition it. A little bit of you need to Andi. It doesn't leave any sticky residue. I just picked up one of the rivets that made earlier in the class on just to show you that it will goes. So it's been a tight fit. Do you have to wiggle the wiring for bets when it will? Don't go through on through the wooden beat? Well, what you might have to do is use a pair of not on Joe pliers just to there we go encourage it, so it's twisting it around a little bit what you're to see that's starting to come through there and push it. Show me the rest of the way through. Once it started to come through the top, you see it there sometimes useful. To grab it with a pair of tweets is very gently in pushing it down like that. If you're going to push it down like that, though, remember to do do it gently because you don't want the wire of it to bend over. That would make it more difficult for it to go through so and also push it down on something that is softer than the silver. So it's not very damaged silver, so I give you a better idea. Oh, but what one of the rings is going to look like I'm going to put the rivets through the second area and then show you how to finish off the rivet on the other side. 7. Riveting Part 1 - finishing the rivets: I threaded both of the rivets through the beats now, and you can see underneath the the silver flowers or in places. Well, I don't know whether you can tell, but this river it is a little bit more wrinkled than this one. This took a little bit more effort to get through the beach, had to regulate to grab it with the pliers. Andi, I did. So there are a couple of kicks that worked their way into here. I smooth those out with the night on your cai's. Now see, those rivets are far too long as they are need to turn them down. It's far easier to start off with a long piece of why. Basically, So you've got something to grip onto whilst you're working, but then you're going to need to trim it down so you can finish the other end of the rivet . And there were a few different message that you can use. Some people like to use a thin piece of card with a whole it or a plane card with a whole it and fit that whole over the rivet on did used that piece of card as a guide as to how much to cut off. My preferred method is actually to use a Sharpie for me of that after the way, a moment I'm going to do, if I can hold it so that my fingers are getting in the way. Strike without my fingers. First of all, don't going to do is just draw a line across the silver Cross, the rivet that is right down at the bottom. So I've got the pen almost resting on the beat on and line you can see on there a darker I write down the bottom. It's just the wits of this pen, and this is a nice, narrow fine Pulp Point or an ultra fine point Sharpie. So I did the same with this one, starting it. Still with my finger on just drawing a line right down bottle went over a few times to make sure that it was. It was nice in clear. So though its face full screen, it is definitely that that is all of the wits that I need to finish off the rivet. So just going to use the cutters, what I did do. First of all, Waters said, it was made sure that the rivet waas pushed tightly on. What you don't want is extra wide down on this side and then show everything often realize that you've actually got the rivet longer than you actually need it to be. So I'm just going to trim that one wolf one so can see the silver just there on and my fingers catching on it. It's It's definitely still sticking up Onda again. Just trim off. So it is a very small amount that you need when that is the length of the wire that I've just trimmed off its actually old enough to make her to start another river twins. Now, if you can remember the action that I used with the hammer before I was hammering across the river, it ever so likely where it's held in the camp. I don't need a clump this time. I'm going to use the same action. Very light hammering, Which is why I remember This is a nice light hammer. So you don't put too much force into your hammering. Andi, I don't need a clump because it's big enough to hold on here now. Andi, I've got it on a steel bench block so that the other end of the rivet is held tightly against this so still, bench broke his friends right along. This is another hammer onto the other end, so that as I have a little bit on here, the other end will stay nice and flat and smooth. Onda We worked wonders of it as well, so it's going to move that one out of the way. Otherwise, to go jumping off anyways, I start hammering. I would sit down with the camera down this low angle, by the way, so that you had a better view of what's going on with the second rivet. I'll move the camera. C. You're looking more more head down. So it's always with something like this, a trickiest thing for me, probably best light that is holding onto such a small thing. But doing it in such a way that you can still see what I'm doing. So that's probably best we're going to get. It's really light tapping. I went around. Remember, The reason why we're trying around is so that's the why it's spread out. The top of the wise were read out in different directions because it's moving right angles to that hammer so I could feel there that the wire has become smooth. Something hammering it. Andi, it looks wider. Done Just on this one for show. You, too. Same. This one is. I have to trust me on this because it is a minute difference. This one is slightly. Why? This is one I've been working on on the Y. Slightly wider hips butt out the way again. Um, but it only needs to be ever so slightly wider to stop it from going through that north 0.8 millimeter hole. Now, what I'm going to do now is just a bit of hammering on this side. I'm going to use this end to the hammer this time again, just to make sure that that scientists like So some doing now is I'm going to alternate between one side and the other just to make sure that the riveted Fischoff evenly on either side on that it is holding those two layers that wouldn't be so far snuck up against each other. I was hitting head on rather than holding up the hammer at an angle. I'm actually just hitting the rivet, not to the silver Flower so I'm not affecting the texture on the silver flower. What's because the rivet is selectively raised compared to the flower and again on the other sides have turned it over. Now that is all it takes. So the rivet on this side is nice and sloughs up against the wooden beat. Most have screwed up against the flower there. Andi trying to pull the flower off. I won't come off. So that's your hold securely. But I need to do no. Is this this part of the design this hearing to match on, going to move the camera city, get a different view of what I'm doing this time. That's the first flower. How securely on the wooden beat. If that would ask the way. And this one Silva is groups. I can show you that dropping it. I moved at about a bitter like you to see the silver is so still sticking up ever so slightly I can catch my fingernail. So I'm a bit down here. You get a different view of what I'm doing, So I'm just going to be hitting just on the rivet. Andi, turn it around a little bit. So the actual Hammer is working across a different in a different direction. Across the wire round again. It was a while, the beat on the flower up against this still broke. So the other head the other side of the river. It is being worked on at the same time. That's fine on that site, so we'll work on this cycle. Bit the rounded head to make sure that's nice and smooth. It is flush up against the flower. I can only decided so, and that's hold on nice and tight. You got your two silver flowers riveted onto the wooden beats, so the last parts the class are going to show you how to turn those into a pair of air. It's 8. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - making the headpins: It's time now to make the head pains that I'm going to straight the wooden beat with their silver flowers on to Andi. I've cut 25 centimeter links off no 250.8 millimeter wire on, but I'm going to do is a melt a ball on one end of each piece of why the beads would then be 30 through from the top. I won't be able to come off the other end because see the ball will hold the mall. The ball won't be out to fit through the hole in the beat. So what I'm going to do is hold each piece of wire in turn in reverse action tweets is I'm gonna hold it just in front off the blue tip of the cone. So the blue cone of flame because that's the hottest part. I like to move the wire about that spot just a little bit. I find that that gets the smoothest, neatest ball in the end of the white. I can, and then we're done and job each one in the French pot to clean up one to. That's going to get them out of the quench pot. Andi, I'm going to do quite often I will make more than one have happens at the same time and choose the best fit as it were. But these So she turned out really well just checking to seeks. I've only done two that they are a good fit. They are good much if one of them, it turned out to be quite a bit bigger than the other. Then I would put a smaller one. Back in the tweets is I'm back in the frame to make it a little bit bigger. But now she a good match. So these Ni Nani to go in the pickle pot of the back here that will clean these 30 oxides off and then I'll be ready to thread the beats on Cheetham. 9. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - wrapped loops: taking the hedge pins out off the pickle on. I've given them a nice polish with a polishing cloth that you can get from any high street jewelers or from any jewelry supplier. I could have put him in my tumble polisher to play shop, but I didn't have anything else to go in there. So just giving him a quick polish with the polishing cloth did the job nicely. So if I see red thumb through the beads making certain that the beads are the right way up , you can see that the ball at the end stops the beat from coming off at the bottom. So they say I need to do is turn a rap group at the top of each bead. A rapidly was really good for this wrath, and I loop because by wrapping some of the excess wires around the stem underneath the loop , it prevents lead from coming open. So it's really nice and secure. I'm going to be using my around. Those applies to do the job if you're not already comfortable with turning rap groups and do download the step by step photo tutorial. That heifer added to the class materials So first thing I need to do it's going to hold the hold applies across the wire right down next to the Beat, said. There's some little room for the wiggle about. I've got the wire about or no more than 1/4 of the way down the pliers and the first thing I'm going to do it just bends that wire over. So sits about at right angles on and the move supplies. So what? One no supply. Sitting on the chops, I could bend the wire up over down the other side. Twist supplies round. So in the way, Andi continue to pull the wire around that. No supplies until it's got all the way around those in crossing over itself. So this stage, if I wanted to link something onto the before I close it. This is a stage at which I do. It would use a pair off fat, no supplies to lift the loot up, sick on the ear. Why, whatever I needed, close it back down again and then raptly access. Why around with the stem that you can just see here? But the idea itwas I'm going to make him have I loops of the ends. I can't open up easily, so don't do that. So start hurting that access. Why around? I've got into the habit. I start during it with my fingers and then use the for that knows planets, whips to gripped tightly onto the wire so that I get a nice a firm grip. I can pull the wire tightly so that I can finish off that corny I'm going to use why Coaches to trim off the access, says one dunk with a loop proper the tops. This will allow me to country a wise centers do the same with the 2nd 1 sec the same before hold the wire about quarters away, down ended about right angles and then Twister. Why pulled up over down the other side so crosses over itself and then wrap that excess around the stem says that the loop is securely finished. Groups So was I need to do now is make have ear wise to hang the beach from, and then we'll have another. Every pair of earrings 10. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - making the earwires: last job for this project is to make a pair off ear wise for these beefs to hang below or they was over. They would be just as nice as this independent Almeria charms on a bracelet on first thing going to do. I've cut too five centimeter links off no 50.8 millimeter. Why? I just got a five centimeter because I don't want the're wise to be too long. This is a nice, dainty pair of earrings I'm going to turn on. I loop at one end of each on, just like with the wrapped loops. There's also a downloadable step by step photo tutorial to help reform the islets of you're not already familiar with those. So I'm going to hold the wire about 1/3 of the way down the pliers. Andi going to twist. So what away with supplies? Twisting applies around pools. The wise to my finger thumb to form loop. When you do the same next one, I notice I've got my fingers some close to where I'm working. So why is supported nicely? I held it back here. This bit of wire could what we're about and get all bendy Andi also if you are not yet confident with making wrapped loop, So I'm making the loop side about the same each time we have a Sharpie marks there just Teoh help you lying everything up. So just twisting the pliers as I do so importing the wife of my fingers some until that cut edge meets up with the long stem. That's the start of the earrings. The next step is that I'm going to put in the U Shape the bend. It's actually going to hold the ear wise in your ears, going to bend around the middle section of this step commando. But as I've said many times before, you could use Bauer. Depend to do that job for you, so I don't want Thies to go too far down. So sure hold the loop ever so slightly off allergy to wrong. It's hold it there, my son and use finger thumb of my left hand just to bend that Why around? So don't why that the loop is facing the wrong direction. I thought that out in a moment. That's the 1st 1 done going to do the 2nd 1 Just part bend it Andre. Then how would the ear rise up against each other because I want to make sure they are making the same size. This oneness of our stuff started a bend. It's over too long on this section. So we're gonna pop it back on the Mandrell on as his front sections too long. I'm going to bend a little bit of that around. Check again. I'm happy with that. They were better match. So the front skirt. So I just hold that still with my some I just shoes fingers, some of the other hand. Just push that tale. The why around. But further good, that's the next section done starting to feel a bit more like ear wise. Now, another loops are definitely facing the wrong way. So I'm just going to use pair off night on your plus just to twist, um around. You can see the difference. That's all it took. Just a little twist for these nylons. Your prize. Okay, at the moment, I was having to hold those very carefully, so I didn't move the wiry tours I twisted. So don't move this section the wires I twisted down here because this is a particularly strong at the moment I had to do. Move This interview is hammer just the front section of the ear wise that I didn't have the strength. I'm gonna do that with a plan. Ishan hammer. That's all that's needed. And now these are at your fabrics. Springer. They're going to hold their shape a lot better. Last two things these do are to the ends off the ear wires, always a flat nose pliers to just flick out that very end sections just the same amount as the wits of the pliers, twisting it back right that should get putting side by side. You got to see the difference that that's when his flicked out. You use a much nicer finish. Same to this one, just the wit suppliers twisting it out almost, Um, but at the moment, the ends here's but scratchy. They wouldn't be very comfortable, Gracie or is so good he's a needle file just to smooth and meat on these off. I make you more comfortable using my fingers to feel if it's nice and sloughs give me a much better idea than my eyes will, because it's so small. So you think of chips are actually really quite sensitive. That's the 1st 1 done. Number two. So now it's time to put everything together. I didn't used the flat nose pliers again for that. Very simple. Just putting more together. It's going to lift up that loops. Their Certs opens up. So it on the first beat, making sure it's facing for what's one to. And there we have it, the first project in this riveting Siri's that which he had to make simple. I'm of its on adding in more than one of it and then making your rivets hidden so you can't see Mitchell at the front and also going to be using some tube to make some fancy rivers as well. 11. Riveting Part 1 - Simple Wire Rivets - final thoughts: So that's how you make simple y of its I hope you been out to see if you find through the class with me. That's the key, really is in the preparation. It's obviously important pair the different lands that you want to put it together to make sure that they are finished in polished is you want them to be, because it's difficult to polish them once everything's riveted together. But it's also important to take your time to prepare the rabbit itself. And to make sure as I will keep your mind to use with goes through these classes that you drill a hole in the cities the exact same time attack that you'd be making. I'm looking forward to seeing what projects you come up with using simple while rivets, Beit earrings, pendants or maybe a Children, or embrace it and also seeing what we choose you choose to use in your projects. Thank you for watching on. I look forward to taking you through the rest of classes in the course to show you just how versatile and useful rivets are
