About This Class

Do you feel at times like you want to create, but you’re stuck, uninspired, depressed by lack of skill (real or imaginary), or just bored and totally out of motivation?

I guess we’ve all been there. And it doesn’t matter if you're professional artist, you do arts as a hobby or you just have an urge to express yourself.

My class is here to help you breathe out, relax and lose yourself in creative journey. There we’ll leave behind formidable Art Block Peaks, avoid Blank Page Fear Plains, float over the Oceans of Failure Dread and the Islands of Impostor Syndrome. And we’ll be totally victorious because our goal is not the destination but the adventure itself!

On this travel we we will:

  • explore different no-fuss home printmaking techniques and ways to mix them up
  • get messy and crazy
  • look for inspiration in non-visual arts and finally give your Pinterest a break
  • let your thoughts and feelings out
  • find new ways to make pictures and share our findings
  • have lots and lots of fun

No special equipment is required.  You need paper, paint (better thick kind of paint like acrylic or gouache) and a knife. Other tools and materials will be of your choosing and should be easy obtained at home.

1. Introduction : Hi, Melissa. I'm an artist, illustrator, printmaker, and I want to take you on a journey to creative freedom was helped off home print Making this class is for you. If you're a professional artist or you have a creative hobby, we all go through the same kind of travel. Are there times when you stare the blank page and your heart feels completely empty on there times when you want to create something new boat. But you feel to straying too afraid, and you end up just repeating same all Spartans. Oh, procrastinating, the halting all together. Oh, because you're too afraid not reach perfection off Just to say for so many of us, there's overs imposter syndrome, which is too ready to tell you you're not good enough on you should just quit all your creative endeavors before you made a total fool yourself. I guess the only way out of this is to start doing something. And here's this class to help you, to help you relax, to start moving, to feel more free and by printmaking. There is a fund, the great thing about 20 making. It's not entirely up to you how to turn out The result depends March on extent on magic of possibilities. You don't care all the bait and responsibility of being an altar, so it can just take it easy and let things happen. Another major point is we're not here to create some perfect, blameless piece of what we are here. To experiment, to find new ways to create things or just to clear head and get our hands is, uh, let's observe and be mindful. Focus on travel. Not on the destination. 2% dissipated this class. You don't need any special equipment. Just some paper paint, like a critic. Oh, gosh, On this punch, everything else will be our improvisation. So see you in the next video where I'll explain a lesson plan and class project. 2. Lessons Plan: Here's what we gonna do. Firstly, we'll find out what we could use for printing now, home and outside. Ah, well. Create texture in Parton's using plants would card bought and any found objects will consider us second last of a crate. Frames and masks using Stansell on tape, and we'll talk about negative space and so fast it will make stamps off. Cork and potato on will try to layer up all our techniques. Kendall Move, Talk Class Project will talk about how we can use songs, poems and as a non visual arts as inspiration. Then you can pick a piece of art off your charts and start making your interpretation. Using all the techniques we learned, there will be a little bonus video about bringing on fabric as a practical way to use your new skills. See you in person. 3. Plants & Found Objects : welcome to the first lesson since the idea. You can apply paint on the thing and make an imprint hit someone People invented Manda Manda parenting techniques like urging silkscreen would cut and others to try them. You need special equipment and materials, but who says we can go to the beginning, cover our hands and paint and go making handprints all over as head in the say we can and not just hands. Look around what things do a seat if you touch them. House able filled look for interesting shapes and texture. I have Rahm edged around my home and in years forest, and that's what I have found. I have leaves, grass, most twine, bubble rip bark and cardboard pieces to stop printing. We need paint. Have acrylic gray and brown sponges on the bottle or rolling pin will be using as printing press. Let's see, what we can do is my findings. Apply paint with this punch and press plant into paper with bubble. Let's see how different leaves will book. Have interesting color Transition. Used two different colors off paint, but don't mix him on purpose. Just Adam. The mixed on your sponge as you print. Now I will try Bark. - Now I have seen how my stamps work. S I will try to create some abstract composition on then patterns. As you can see, you don't have to apply paint for every stamping. - That's all for this lesson. Please go and print something and share what you've done in class Project. See you in the next lesson to make stencils and masks. 4. Stencils & Masks: have done some painting. Now let's try to add some energy and structure, but without those in our beautiful kills to this purpose will be using Stansell's and mask is the most basic things we can do is adding for it border. I'm using painter's tape to create a rectangular frame, and now I will print composition inside this frame. - I'm taken off, sir, Painter states Aun said. They have some severe list ticket card, and it turns the paper bill. But I think it's not so best now. I'm looking at it. I think that borders should be Broda. He likes it. Let's do more friends now. I'm creating a powerful one, cutting it from paper. - I like this one much burden, but we want stops there. That's great. Some motive. Frayn's. - I think it looks like moon landscapes now. I don't care for the borders, but we're still born to add negative space. We can go with masks and one of my favorites, Majid's off using tape is to create tribes. That's what it looked when I printed the fabric, loves his bald cots hers and details the last example off masks. Usage is great in complex shapes Ah, here tried to Gray's home think like head of folks. - And again, my tape is not working as it should, and my Fox has some problems with his ears. If you also have this Herb Ellis kind of tape, try to dust this corn starch. I tried it later on, and it worked, and I'm not sure if it was the right move, but I gave my folks face negative space and pictures. Gives it some air to breathe. Some perspective to see, like when you step back from the canvas and you can see the whole picture instead of individuals. Trucks, obviously, or have some negative space created in sir printing process between our stamps. But if it add different scale, creating powerful contrast between small, detailed Parton and big shapes, it will make picture alive, energetic, modern. I'll see you in the next video to cop some stems. In the meantime, don't forget the shire progress 5. Cork & Potatoes Stamps: until now I have my parents with thinks, just as we have found him. My badging, some shapes. Stansell's now let's make steps without on design using cork and potatoes. Now we need a night on the pencil. How will start was potatoes first Cod capitated. And then you can out find your design. It was a pencil. Now, Mike. Vertical cuts along contour lines. Get, uh, then cut off unwanted parts. So I was the first bomb is ready. If you want to cut apart from the centre, carefully pick it out with the end of the blade. Now that's just her most temps. If you makes temps off letters, awards, don't forget to mirror your design. - Now that's still corks. It's all the same, but in smaller scale. And there's a good thing your cock stamps you can use indefinitely while potatoes leave on for a day. It's time to test our temps, so it's also same routine of this paint. As before, - we have tested how our car stamp's work. Now that's put it together on and combine it with other techniques. Yeah, you can see how the color is uneven because there was dry paying toe on a bubble wrap. I think it's very cool. Now. I use uncut cork to make and dot Parton. I do it very awesome. Toe edge, written toe, anything way. I think it went great. So tell me, how are you doing? And be ready for the next test, where we look to inspiration and we'll start our cost project. 6. Finding Inspiration & Final Project : We have tried different printing techniques and about a girl from here, but five new ideas, probably you already have a team to go to. Pinterest and Instagram feed for inspiration. And, of course, it's very important to see an analyze work of other artists. But I myself sometimes failed to have around by the amount of visual content I see every day, and I can't hear my own creative voice and said Nice. So I propose something different. Pick a song, form you like. Turn it on or read it. Then close your eyes and listen to us. Help. I do feel, do feel joyful. Do you feel sad? Happy? Ah, heartbroken, but imaginary appears before your eyes. What colors? What shapes any memory of Balkan? Try to flower in the stream, not playing into anything. Now, judging just feeling and observed now have a good press and return to present Mom, it's time to re create your experience on paper. Don't go for illustration. Focus on capturing emotions, feelings What I mean, if you capture the sea dancing coastline off phase thing salted and sink indefinite space, think not off before, but the meaning is on your hands will follow your mind. Look at the Children painting. We all have been born artists but don't need in a special permission to operate, but don't have to follow in euros on. That's a class project. Big a song, a poem, a book. Experience it and make your out interpretation. Don't think of the float. Just make your impression. Created Parton landscape. A total abstraction. Feel free to mix any techniques for learned. Adding something else. Paintings, drawings, But to have a bill broke for you. Big Bald breaks the rules. Invent your old be true to yourself and after Johnny, please come back here and share your experience. I couldn't How can your travels? Now I'm going to make my interpretation off very short. Brought against poor him. Yes, the fish abuse. You can watch my process off. Skip it and go to your project. Then meet me later in the next video for final salts and goodbyes. - I'll tell you a bit about my thinking process, that ideas I want to capture in this work. Firstly, there is a contradiction between the child and the world. For me, the child feels pretty alone, and so I'm given into space there owned Zandt's. There's a feel of danger, but it's not very terrifying. It's more like curious, like a dark forest you shouldn't go into on. There's a feeling off BMC like it's a fun game off hard and seek happening somewhere between primeval forest on busy city streets. - That's my fish music and I can't wait to see your projects. See you in the next video. 7. Final Thoughts : I hope you had a good time in this class to gather, have looked around and found many interesting printing ideas. The Cavs stems off potatoes and cork and cut always through Stansell's and masks and what's most important but had adventure on our quest for inspiration and creative freedom. Thank you so much for taking this class. And if you feel a bit more relaxed and confident now, my mission is down. I encourage you now to stop here and to continue experiments. And if you wander, what practical ways you can use your new skills. I have a few ideas. You can create interesting backgrounds and textures for painting administration. Decorate your home in many ways, like making Costas and drinking over there all itself. You can also make amazing things drinking on fabric. I, like create any clauses. Ah, home decor. See the bonus video of her tips? Uh, if you have any sounds, don't hesitate to shed his me on. Follow me if you don't want to miss my future classes. Goodbye 8. Bonus. Printing on Fabric : Almost everything we have printed in this class on paper can be also done on fabric. You just need some kind off textile paint have set a color by PayPal. Ah, this paint, like most for textile, should be dried and said with Hot Byron, If you're printing on a T shirt, put some board inside tow. Avoid false and stains on the back side. Now I'm using Stansell off paper and I'm printing with moss, and it created very beautiful vintage texture. If you're printing on fabric, you may need a layer off soft petting as a ways the paint won't reach all the fibers, especially when it's textured fabric like line in here. I'm using potatoes temp, and I'm reminding you, you can apply paint wants and then make several prints. It will create a great end. Don't forget to set your paint with high temperature if it's required
