1. Rainy Day Intro Skillshare: Hello and welcome to this class. My name is debug three and I am an artist best out in India. I have been teaching art professionally since 2016 and I have had the pleasure to teach over 20 thousand students in this class. I'm going to teach you a rainy day window painting of an indoor scene, of cozying up with a blanket, book and coffee. It's such a beautiful painting to create and keeping your room. And you will learn a lot of techniques in the process of creating this painting. It's a little Lindy tutorial and that's because you have a lot to learn. We'll start this class by telling you the acrylic art supplies and then in a ten step process, P2 to create this rainy day painting, you will learn how to paint a misty background using dry brush technique. You will learn how to create perspective in a landscape to make it look realistic, how to paint wouldn't textures, and how to paint a vintage books with text written on it. How to paint forms and dimensions of the coffee mug. And finally, how to paint the raindrops. Get ready for this beautiful acrylic adventure. And I look forward to seeing you inside the class. 2. Art Supplies: Hey guys, welcome to this class. In this class, I am going to teach you a conscious monsoon landscape with the raindrops on the window sill. And let's start with the right art supplies. Very limited or supplies I'm going to do it or not, A5 acrylic paper which is stuck on this white foam board. I am going to use these three paintbrushes. One is a flat 11 is around little thicker, and one is a liner brush. These three brushes and the colors, I am going to use our dark green, yellow, white, brown, black. So very limited. Okay, So let's start let's, let me start with taking out all the colors. 3. Step 1 - Outside Window Misty Trees: Just as a bit of black, brown, I'm going to take out some time. Let's just first start with a, with the background. We basically the view that you're seeing through the window. So let's start with that, but okay, so before we get onto mpg, the background, just wanting to create a very light outline, basically the drawing of the painting. So feel free to use a pencil if you want to. I'm just being a little courageous and doing it with a paintbrush. See this line will be perfected later after we are done with the background. But just to do the background, I just wanted to, let's say just a couple of lines. Alright, so now let's start creating the background. So I have chosen to do this green background because I really liked the green, nice outside the window. So that's why I chose this one. I'm starting with the light color from the top. Okay, quite a bit of white and add it on the top. And now watch all the colors are mixing. Tiny bit of dark green, tiny bit of black. And since I already had a lot of white, I didn't have to take much of white. It's already my brush. And now watch the spot. We wanted to do a hazy background, right? Because it's raining and itself. I'm like very dry stroking the color in the background and spatially the top of fruit, I'm letting it blend in into the white that I had done so that it looks like it gives that foggy located on exit. Now let's come down. Let's keep coming down. And as you're coming down, we can darken that. She'd just a bit of that became a lot Doc. So you see how gradually we must do my rigid from light to dark here. And I'm going to make it just a bit more of dark. Actually quite dark. And you see what's happening. My flat brush is too big for this area. So I'm switching to the small round brush without taking any color. I'm just blending into the background. To do some trees. Nothing is too prominent too, because it's all in the background and it's raining, so nothing is very clearly visible. Cool. That's done. Now without washing the brush, I'm picking up little bit of yellow and I'm adding that in the front area over here. And you see I'm, I'm blending this color also into the green black of the background. Me draft some tissue paper and just get rid off all the excess Slack and move to more of yellow and add more of yellow here. That's it. See, we created really nice land outside the window. It's like almost like a greenfield that you can go out running anytime. And now we want to create some the pavement area over your toes trying to create a slanting line over here. That's it. She's adding a bit more of yellow just to make it look a little vibrancy. We don't want to make it really a lot vibrant because there's going to be water under the window. So just a little bit as fine. These are some of the background trees just adding. I mean, it's not really yellow, light shade of green. That's it. I think we did a fantastic job with the background. I'm just feeling that I want to take this up a little bit more. Okay. So I'm just dragging this up a bit more. Background his evenings. Now in the next step we're going to add the pavement area over here, which is outside that window. 4. Step 2 - Outside Window Pavement: So the color we are going to use for this tape is white and black, mostly grayish. So I am creating those two colors, mixing and including it. Let's start applying the color was always to keep the perspective what we have to do, light to dark. That's all we have to do. Okay? So starting with the really light on the top. And as we come down, we're going to get a little bit dark morning, right? Freed up the whole place, light to dark. Now all we have to let it dry and add the color. I just want to make it little bit more white because I just feel it's too dark. Yeah, that's that looks good. And once it is dried, we will go on top of it and create those pavement. But until it dries, what I'm going to do is I will create a straight line over here and get that training. So for that, I'm switching to my liner brush and I'm using black and creating this straight line over here in this direction. So what you can do is you can use as a scale and a pencil and draw this line out. If you feel you have, you would struggle to create this straight line. So do that. And I'm going to take this all the way up here. Now, some of it is not going to be visible this corner because the blanket is going to come here. But as much I can me just the line. Oops. My line is created. Now, obviously, the right side of the line is not perfectly done and that's because I'm going to add some colors over there. So I'm not too bothered about it right now. There's going to be multiplying that comes up. This is basically the line on the pavement. I'll say the window. Okay. So this is not one of the window. Let's look a little tricky. And I'm going to add little gray line in-between it. I am using a little water because working with a small brush, It's always good to have a little water so that it flows smoothly. So do realize that this is the basement we're doing outside, which is basically connecting to the field. So this is a pavement outside the window and just next to the speed that we just made. Okay, that's done. And now we'll let us also create the pigment lines with a little darker shade of gray than what we have done on the background. Too much of water. So just wipe it off and get as close as possible. I'm not trying to create these lines very, very prominent. It's almost hazy because the view is from the window where there is water on top of it. So it's not going to be fairly prominent. But that's all. We have completely done. The scene outside that window now. And now we will come inside and we will start creating the window panel. Yeah, so let's do that in the next step. 5. Step 3 - Wooden Window Frame: The next step, a, we need a lot of brown. So I'm taking off my dog realm. Now if you don't have these exact shade, you can use burnt sienna or any other brown shade that you have. That's totally fine. Okay, so let's start doing that. And for that right now, rather than using the liner brush, I am using this little thicker round brush, which is a string because we are going to be doing little thick lines first and after that, the penal length. So I'm using this one so that I can quickly a cover up the area. Okay. So you can see it's a broad line with one stroke. You can fill up quite a bit, right? So that's the fascinating part of it. Make sure the lines are all parallel to this one, right? We are not focused on creating the exact shade right now, so we're focused on I'm just filling up the area first and then the liner brush, we will go and add on the lifestyle. I'm not trying to create exactly nice lines are because I will do that with the liner brush using multiple colors to give a little bit of sheets. And I feel it's pretty much done. See, we got a really nice shade. This isn't the exact shade we want. So we have, we'd go over it and do it one more time. And let's do the exact same thing. In the bottom area. Also. Say I'm not washing my brush, I'm just wiping it off and mixing white and black and gray. So now this little bit of brown I already had on my brush, which is fine. And with that, I am creating this line over here. Again, just filling it up. Okay, that's done. Now, this is where the blanket comes and the monk comes here. So the mound we're going to do absolutely at the end. Let's just first mark out on that area, okay. How much work to be done. So let's do that. We are having some black here. Just makes sure that the lines are parallel. Okay, so that is a very important thing of creating this painting. Now without washing my brush, I'm taking some brown and going just next to it. Adding a little white with it to create some shadow and see my hand movement is completely parallel to this final line that we have added here, right? So let's do some nice wooden texture. Right now. Again, we're not trying to do any texturing. We are just trying to fill it out completely. Hi, It's so pretty much all of our background is done and just a little bit left, which is this part. Let me do that five as well right now. So I must open my brush, but not very clean. And now I'm picking up white and glean on this area. Okay, I think my brush is pretty slim. Little bit of brown and black is coming out. That's exactly what I wanted. You can take a bit of yellow and brown just to make it darker. You don't want it. Most give white Parallel, Parallel, Parallel. Okay, Make sure it's very important to have the perspective, right? See the black was, wait over there, so I picked it up and that's fine. It's giving me a shade or shadow to this area. And this part is also done. All of our background is done. In the next step, we're going to draw the the objects, which is the book and the blanket over here. And then we will go over and add all the detailing to all these places. 6. Step 4 - The Objects Book & Blanket: All right, So let's start painting. All the objects are doubled. Again. I'm going to use my liner brush to draw it out, sketch it out, but feel free to do it with a pencil. I am mixing of white and black, making some pretty. This is a little tricky, so just pay attention here and watch you don't where I'm starting and where it is going. Okay. So I'm stacking on top of this black line over here. Are just scared, even for me to do this. It's a little tricky. But you get that, don't worry. You can barely see it. So I'll use black would come in like this, do like this. This seems a little light from here. So here is the final line applying that we don't pan out. And then this line coming. That is the complete that yeah. I can see an old book also. Lets it. So this is the area of the blue book. This is the area of the blanket. So our whole sketching is done. Now. Pause it here, possibly do here, and look at all the lines and do it with a pen so that if any of you go wrong, you can erase it and you can do it again. Okay, so now I will move on to filling it up. And now I'm not using those two liner brush, I'm using the round round brush, which is a little kickoff because it will help me cover the place. So first thing that I'm doing is I'm adding the white onto the booklet. Later on I'm going to come and do all the nice designs and stuff. But right now I just wanted to clean it up. Okay. The book portion is covered. It's not completely done as you can see. You can still see the markings. So we will go over it once again, once it dries. But until then, let's just fill up the blanket. So now again, I'm going to fill it up with the color of the shade of the blanket. Okay. Watch it. You will understand what I mean by that. So. Here is one line of gray over here. And I'm adding some light shade. And I'm going to use a little bit of this brown mix also this to get this shade. But if you're burnt sienna is giving you a different shape, That's also fine. It doesn't have to be exactly the same shape, but if you mix white, black, and brown, you get this really pretty shade, which is what we want. So always a blending is keep the Blending, right, okay, from whatever color you're doing. And let's do the dark side, dark areas, which is basically the underneath of the blanket with the shadows of Omi and lighten it up on this side. Okay, So this is the dark area which is done. Now. One more dark area is here. So adding a lot of black on this shadow area. And as we're coming out, I'm mixing white and brown mix. See how easy it is. It's not as complicated as it looks. Adding more of this shade and covering each duck. We continue in this color. So you see the mix of these three colors produces really nice color, black, white, and brown. That's all pretty much what I'm doing. Now. The colors are depending on what color you have. Your sheets can vary just a little bit and that's totally fine. Okay. You don't have to get the exact same shade as mean because this is also exactly not the same sheet as I have in the photograph. I'm pretty much doing it on my own. So you don't even if you're not getting the exact same thing, It's freaky by adding a piece of the dark. So basically, all we're doing here is blending the colors from one area to another. Main job is blending later on degrees, adding the shadows. And so pretty much all of it has been blocked up. Just a little bit, just not done better and whatnot. So we've covered the whole of blanket that was quite a dark gray. And now, before moving on to the next step, what I'm going to do is just to wash off my brush and add one more layer of white pillar so that it gets blended really well. And the background doesn't show through. Alright, done in the next step, we are going to create the window panel properly adding all the texture and the texture, especially I love doing this part, so we'll get to that. And also the window better. 7. Step 5 - Creating The Wooden Textures: Now in this step we are going to do a lot of detailing. So get ready for it with a liner brush. Liner brush is the key for this painting. I feel, by the way, if you notice that the white is completely not, still has not covered the background, right? So we've done two layers and probably we will have to do a third, if required, a fourth layer as well, but we will look into that. Okay. Now let's start by creating the beautiful panels over here in this top part. So I'm just moving my canvas a little bit enough or isn't true because I am more comfortable creating horizontal lines and vertical lines. But the only thing that you need to make sure is that everything is parallel. I feel at this point this is not exactly parallel, but by the time I come here, I will create a more pattern. So I'm starting off with the black. Absolutely. At the end. The next color I'm taking is brown. That little mix of white, which is basically the color that we already have, the background, but just to make it a much more predominant. Okay, then I am continuing with this color just a little bit more. I'm just repeating all the colors that I'm adding so that you get a good idea understanding of exactly what I'm doing. After that, I add one line or two lines of brown and then one line long. Okay? Again, going back to the brown mix and adding some more brown. Now, I already have such nice shading the background. I don't completely want to ruin that. So I'm not adding too much of color here. And I am continuing doing that. I'm just leaving a little gap because already it has some background color over here. So all I'm doing is adding another line of brown, little distance in-between or gap of lacking. And I didn't little white with it just to create a beautiful shape. Now see as I'm coming close to the end, you can see how the fat. And then after this, I'm adding black. This site, right side, I'm adding black. On the left side, I'm mixing the black with the brow. So it's blending from black to brown. There you go. It's pretty much done except I'm going to add a line of black. Sure. And a little bit of brown, light brown on either side of the white. Now, I can give you a trick of doing this. You can actually use a gel pen. If you are not very comfortable, we need with the brush. And finally, on the absolute left, I'm just adding next to the brown, next to the black. One more layer of line of light rail. I know too many lines. Kind of confusing, but we're done. That's it. Now you will see the clean look once we take off the masking tape. But this is done as of now. And just adding a little lines over here in the background. Done. Now, let's do this line over here, which is also part of the panel. Although window starting off with a white line, then a line of black and brown and white mix. Black at the end of it. Then moving on to white and gray. So here we're going to do a little bit of blending with the black in the center. And three, on this side. You may forget on top of the blanket, that's fine because when we do whittling down, there you go. We have our needle on bottom. Okay, Now we will continue and do this box. So when doing this, what's going to happen is we're going to get inside the book a little bit and that's totally fine. Black all the way to recall. I'm trying not to get inside the book as much as possible, but that's fine. This is on the creativity comes. I love this but watch it. So first thing I'm doing is Leighton Brown. And I'm going to create this wouldn't shop. I already have a background and all I'm doing is creating. I hope my hand is not blocking it. First thing what I'm gonna do is I'm going to create the blacks in-between, pure and one here. And now you're going to go in-between and this kind of lines. We just add a few black lines. Plus let's start with the black line. See I'm using the absolute tip of the brush to create, asked him lines as possible. Isn't that beautiful? See now I'm changing the color and going without ground. Shane. Cheating some more lines. You go. Isn't that so cool? Now, I feel this flag has become to take. So what I'm gonna do it, just going to go over it and add a little bit of it than not sure, the line is not very clean. So I'm just going to add a line of white. That's it. So completely gone on to add any gray here. So once we take off the tape, you will see how pretty it's looking, although ages, couple of black lines. Now in the next step, we are going to do all the detailing on the blanket. But before going on to the next step, I am going to add one more layer of white on the book. Especially on this layer, I feel all the masks are on the most fun. And then once we add the color of the book is going to be completely covered. 8. Step 6 - Paint The Blanket Creases: Alright, in this debt, Let's do the blanket, Let's get all the detailing. So when I did this painting first time, I think I fixed the most difficulty in doing the blanket colors by tau. I'm going to try and break it down in as much easy steps as possible for you. I'm picking out some more of white. And let's start. So it's going to be a mix-up these three colors, basically, black, brown, and white. Okay. Okay. So I have prepared kind of a dark shade and let's go around the age. Okay, Dan, now, let's add in little white and a little bit of blending. Always give the right amount of light and shadow. Sure, I am at the end. It's a blending from light to dark over here. Okay? Now let's create some of the lines of the blanket. Okay, so see how I do that. I'm taking little bit of darker shade for this new line. So this is when you're painting actually starts to look really realistic, completely. Dan them fast. And now we'll continue this on the slide. And we'll see over here, this color will not work because the background is kind of dark. Here. I'm using a lady, the adult, why to do those things. Also doing Elizabeth was blamed in-between. Even here also, I'm adding a few of white as not really white, but kind of light lines. I'm not trying to define them. I'm just going and touching up all the places, right? Same thing. Some light shades over here. Okay, and now let's go with some dark lines and create some dark. So let's make it even darker because this part is quite dark. Okay, Now, we are continuing this line from here onwards. So for that, I have to add a little touch of white, otherwise it will not be visible. But it's pretty much the continuation of this line. There you go. Don't you think it's looking so 3D shape now, so realistic. Now, in the next step, we are going to color the book completely. 9. Step 7 - The Book: So to do the book, first thing what we're going to do is add a layer of white and then at the sheets on top of it. So this is not going to be just white, but we will add in the sheets of the book also in this one. The first thing I'm starting off with is the white. And now for the shape inside, I am using a little bit of white and brown mix just to make it a little bit of light whitish shade. And adding that shade at the bottom of the blanket basically just to show the shadow. I think burnt sienna will give you even a better sheet at this point if you're using that shade. Okay, and then I'm just going on the age off it also a little bit. Okay. Now overshot. This is where we're going to add just a bit more today. But first what I'm doing is I'm just going at Hello. And I'm adding the color in the direction of the book pages. Okay. So this is done. And now to do the outlining, see what I'm doing. With the end of the book. Pages are I am creating the pages. So I don't want it so dark, so I'll use a little bit. Okay. There you go. So on the pages have been, the ending of the pages have been mocked. And now I'll go and create some of the lines. Again. We're not going to go in from the detailing of them. Just going to create some lines random. Well, I write pretty much done. That's it. Now what I'm gonna do is I'm going to let this dry a little bit. This white section that I've done. And while that is drying, I am going to can I create that? I am going to okay. I need a little bit of orange for this spending. So let me just stick out a little bit of orange. Just a tiny, tiny bit. It's just going to make the painting look really vibrant, okay, and I'm just taking out a little bit of blue also. You can use a lighter version of sky blue also, if you have that Mr. tiny bit of well, these two colors and see what I'm going to do here. Add a little touch up off. So this is the book cover make basically right. What she does. And a little d and we'll border it out with black. Thank you for just a little touch of orange and blue just makes it look so good, isn't it? Okay. So now, while this is drying, okay, It's a bit wet. I'm going to just sketch out the coffee mug now. Okay, so let's do the coffee mug. 10. Step 8 - Coffee Mug: All right. Before doing the coffee mug because it's going to be in the same job. The painting, I think our border work is completely done. So I can peel off the tape now and see how good it is looking. It always gives a fresh perspective. When you peel off the tape. Look at the keen painting. All right, So it's been untapped and it looks really classy to meet I felt with all the clean edges. Now, the final thing that we're going to do three things, coffee mug, raindrops, and we're going to write in the book, is that okay? So let's start off with creating the coffee mug first. Again, I am doing it with my being a little bit adventurous and doing it with the paintbrush directly. But feel free to do it with a pencil first. Now that the shape has been done on, I am trying to do is fill it up with blood. Done. And I will create the hand and also not very perfect. But you came out. And I'm going to add some shadow, also, adding just a tiny bit of light on the back. Okay. And I'm going to add some more shadow sure. To give the three-dimensional effect of the mug, adding some white on the side. Okay, It's done. Now let's fill on the top of the coffee mug. So for that, I am using little bit of brown and orange mix. Okay, more orange. Now we will let it dry just a little bit and then I'll come and add some more on top of it. That's up on the coffee mug, is just a little bit of white. And adding on the complete rim of the cup and a couple of lines. Adding some marks to give dimensional effect. Okay. Just adding a bit more black to make it dark in some of the newborn. So the monkey is completely done. And now we're going to do green jobs. And the x on the book. 11. Step 9 - Raindrops: Now let me teach you how to create the raindrops on a window panel, okay, so we are going to do just that. Next. Let's do it. Okay, so the main color, I'm going to use this black and white. So I am just kidding. All shades of gray over here. Okay. I have the lighter one this side of the darker one this side. So watch it how I do it. Starting on the top so that you could understand it better. So we're going to create lines like this. You're not going to make it a full circle. You're just going to leave it at one end. It can be in all sorts of shapes that you want. Now, it's very dark. I'm going to use a little lighter version of this. And water of course. Let the chefs be whatever. See, I'm not really following exactly how it is, but I am doing it in my own, right. Too dark, trying to lighten them. Now let me complete these views so that you understand how it's going to look. I'm washing off my brush completely and taking a wind tunnel and adding white to finish the circle that we left out. So without washing them, I'm switching on and off between three and white. See the wind was not really visible on the white section, but while they do it on the green background, It's going to be much more better visible. Similarly on top of this dark background, the white is going to be even more prominent. I am kind of bearing the shades of gray in different places. Depending on the background, I am changing the droplet color. In some places, I am keeping elongated lines also, which is almost like the job. It's kind of falling. Now as we come here, It's pretty light over here, so we're switching to a darker tone, gray. See the tip of your liner brush has to be really pointed to get it right. So in-between all of them that we just did on just revisit with a little touch of white. Okay, Now that most of it is covered, now we'll just going to add a few small dots here and there. I don't want them to be too vibrant. And that's why I'm using little light green and not pure white. This can be a little tedious work, but it's all worth it. It's going to make it look really nice. Enjoy the process of making these dots. Don't worry too much. Following to look fantastic at the end. Over here at the bottom section, we have added mostly big blobs. Now I'm just going to add a seems more in one's life. Great. I think that's pretty enough. But if you want to add more, by all means, add a few more. I'm not going to stop you. More. You add better. It looks also change the sheets. And that's it. That's really good amount of raindrops on the window. Now the final thing is liquid to add the text tool. 12. Step 10 - Write The Script In The Book: Okay. Before adding the text on the bookstore, I got rough journal and I'm going to show you roughly how to go about it. Okay? So we are not going to write the exact text. Now, if you want to do that by all means, go ahead and do it. But we are going to write it. So I got a black gel pen. Any black chip and that you have is totally fine. And we're just going to add like scribbles like this. Keep some gap in-between and just do this. I learned this technique of writing scripts like this. I still remember in 2017. And I actually loved so much that I immediately practiced it like this, like the way I'm showing it to you right now on a blank piece of paper for a really long time. And so if you're doing this for the first time, you might feel a little difficulty, but I hope not. Just practice it on a piece of paper like this. And you are good to go. Okay? This is pretty much what we're going to do. So try this out. And now I am going to do it over here. So since you can see the book cover is listed like this. So my script is also going to go exactly in that same direction. Isn't that so cool? And now you're in the same process. I am going to sign my name. Should I do in this direction? Yeah, I think so. 13. Final Words: There you go. You have it. This gorgeous painting, I know it looks so difficult when you look at it. You don't know how to go about painting it, but it's kind of easy as you can, as you know already by now, if you've followed along and done this painting along with me, you understand how easy it is. It's not really difficult. We just break down it bit by bit and do the whole staff. And I hope you got a really good understanding of painting raindrops. So you can, you saw how easy it is just to make a half circle and then fill it up with a little bit of white. I hope you, once you get this hanger creating these raindrops, you can do it on any painting that you want to do. And thank you so much for joining. I had a lot of fun eating this painting because honestly, I never thought I will be able to teach this painting because I always thought is really difficult. But I think that getting a lot of raindrops gave me a lot of confidence to be able to teach this painting and I'm, I'm so glad to teach it to you guys.
