Procreate Art Mood Boards

1. Intro : hi there. It's great to invite you back into the studio. Once again, I'm crispy, and usually I'd be diving into a watercolor project. But today I'm sharing a whole new adventure, working in appropriate app on the iPad. E started using procreate after a few years ago, and while I'm not an expert, I have learned a few tips and tricks I cannot wait to share with you in this class. I'm gonna show you how I create procreate art mood boards using original artwork. Root boards are collections of images from a similar color palette that help set a tone for a project or brand. But I've discovered they're also a great way to showcase your work If you're an artist or photographer, I have about 100,000 monthly viewers on my Pinterest and Mood board is one of the most popular boards on my entire account. Good boards are a huge trend. You may want to get a jump on what's fresh. We'll start by giving you a basic tour of procreate. Then we'll dive into inspiration, building a color palette, arranging images, working with different orientations and adding text. The mood boards you create our perfect for sharing on social media on your blog's and even in your portfolio. So if you're creative, looking for a way to be noticed, this classes for you. If you don't do procreate art, you can still take pictures of your work and use in this class. At the end, I'll show you how to produce a time lapse video of your project that could be also useful in various digital arenas. So grab your iPad or tablet, download the procreate app and let's get started. You got this procreate art mood ports. See you in the next video to get started. 2. Tools & Materials: okay. Tools and materials couldn't be much simpler. I am using my iPad pro. I have the small size, but you can also use the large size, and I'm using my apple pencil. But you can follow along with any stylists that you prefer. I will be using the procreate app. It's about a free version, or you can use the paid version. It's not that much, Uh, next up will be inspiration for your project. 3. Procreate Tour: Okay, so we're gonna dive right in by pressing the plus at the top right hitting screen size, which will open a new document that will be a basic size with lots of layers we can work with. And from here you'll see that there's a menu at the top, and there's also a menu on the side, so the side consists of a couple of sliders. This is the slider that will adjust your brush size up and down. And the bottom is the transparency. So you can go from transparent to opaque, and then you have a forward and back button right here where you can fix errors. And so forth from there I'm gonna open up the color pop over. Uh, this shows a lot of pellets that I've created. Ah, years will be blank if you're just starting out, but we'll be going over that later. Ah, on the bottom, you'll see there are four selections. The left one is called the disc, which is essentially your color wheel. So from here, you can make any color imaginable, and it just so much fun to play around the outside dot moves you two different colors on the spectrum and the inside dot music moves you two different tones and hues within that color. And that's the car that will appear in your color swatch at the top circle on the right that is called your color swatch. So the two color swatches that are showing at the top of the color window here are the previous color and the current color. The second window is your classic color picker, so within the color, it will allow you to get a lot closer and select your tones and hues within that color so you can do it for I like this a lot. If you go to the extreme corner of the white and extreme corner of the black, you could have a true color there. Or if you double click in each areas, you will get a true black and white. Ah, and then, of course, the gray scale is a lot of fun to play with. You could move it all the way to the left, and you can kind of play around with different colors moving over to the right until you get an intense, saturated color at the top, right? So it's a really fun. Little section to play with. The third section called Value is so Much Fun because you can enter a specific color. Ah, from Pantone or other bloggers sharing colors. From here, you can hit the plus sign at the top of the pallets window and create your own custom palette by just dropping the color you have in your color swatch. Then you can go through and change the color hit pallets and dropped that and to just by tapping the next square over and you can really see the squares. But if you tap the next little area, you'll see it pop up. There is a square. Um, so this is super fun. You just create a pallet out of nothing, or you can go and create a specific palette. On pantone dot com, we have some fun palace that you can drag and drop in. If you swiped your pellet to the left, then you can just delete it. Or you can actually share this pal if you want to share it to another device or another person is working on a project with you but for now gonna delete it. Since I don't want this palette in my pellets window. Another quick way to select a color is that that is already in your artwork is too press and hold on the color. Let me just paint a few colors in this canvas and I'll show you what I mean. Okay, so you'll see. I just used pink and in the color swatch of here you see its peak. But let's say I want to change to another color I'm working on. So I present holding. You'll see a circle when you release the color swatches change to that color. Now it's changed a teal, so this is a really great tool on really easy, and it will save you a lot of time. Another real time saver is redo with three fingers and undo with two finger taps that will save you a ton of time as well. Now we're gonna move on two layers. Layers are, ah, whole ah array of options that you can. This is what makes procreate so unique from traditional art is that you can layer your artwork to create special effects and then do certain things like drag them across to make them act is one you can compress them into one layer. Ah, we'll be going over more things. But if you tap a lair, you'll see a whole menu of options. Here you can rename your layer so that you can keep them organized. Ah, which will be doing later on as well. Um, but if you want to make sure that you know what layer that is, sometimes they can get a bit confusing when you get several of them going. Sometimes I have 10 to 12 layers, and it can get a little bit dicey on what players what you swipe to the left. You can have a non option like duplicating, like I just duplicated that layer. You can lock them to do certain things with just within that layer, and then you can delete if you no longer need them. Um, so that's a fantastic little section, and you have your eraser, which will pull up. You will erase with the pattern of the exact brushy use last, So if you want to change that, you can hit the brush library and change what your racer looks like. The smudge tool does exactly the same thing, so it will smudged with the same exact brush pattern that you have. And then, of course, your brush library, um, is vast. It has a lot of different procreate, um, standard brushes that they have added for you with options. And if you click on the brush itself, you'll see all different things. You can change the way the brush behaves, I can add Taper, Aiken crease size I can Oh my gosh, there's, ah, a limitless amount of things not limitless But it's pretty, pretty exciting what you can do with with a brush by just changing its behavior. So if you hit the wrench, you'll see a whole another menu pop up here. Ah, if you hit the plus sign, you will be able to add a photo, take a photo and text. Um, like, if you want to do it on instagram, you know our blog's sort of text over on your image. You can certainly do that here. Um, you can. In the next section under canvas, you can see there's a drawing guide that will keep you on track by adding lines to your illustration. If you hit the share button, you can see all these different formats of documents and you can even do some fun gifts and so forth. Video is really cool. It will play back everything that you've done in any given documents and will be exporting a time lapse video at the end of this class. Ah, preferences is a much more technical. You can change your interface. I have a light interface, but you can change it too dark. So everything's contrast it against your canvas. Um, your right hand interface if you're right handed. If you're left handed, you might want to change your interface toe left handed, so it's easier for you to access your tools. The brush cursor. If you toggle it on it will show a trail of your brush stroke. You typically have to in larger brush a lot more, and then you can play around with that. I don't find it really distracting, so I shut it off. Project Canvas will allow you to sell Connect a second display, so that's a whole nother sort of ball of wax. I don't ever use that, but I think I might try that in the future. So again, something you can play around with so down below there's a few more things you can do, including connect to 1/3 party stylists. So that's where you'll connect a different styles in the apple pencil. The gesture controls. There's a whole nother menu to explore and see if you'd like to change the way procreate behaves for you, this will create gestures for the smudge tool, the erase tool and all the things you see there. This is the edit pressure curve where you can edit how the curve behaves and procreate. So again, this is really technical. I don't ever really mess with this because I find it behaves just fine for me in the adjustments. There's really a lot of cool features here, and I'm gonna do a little short demo because I find this really fun. Besides the opacity, the blur options are super cool. I'm just gonna paint some large blocks of color on my canvas just really quickly for you because this is pretty amazing stuff. I was gonna try to drop some color and so make this kind of quick for you. I feel that all the way in and then gonna lighten my color a little bit, just picking around him. Color here, make it has to go all the way to the end in order to drop a color. If there's any space at all, it's that's going to fill your entire canvas, and I'm gonna lighten it again and again. Just make sure that's a complete block, so I could just drop the color in. So if you take your finger and you start moving it across the campus, you'll see this blue line at the top, starting to blur the contents. It's sort of blended. If you do it all the way across, it will blur into basically one Grady Int, which is super cool to use in projects As a fashion illustrator. This is great for creating garment design. And, my gosh, it's It's an amazing tool. From here you can have different source of blur. Um, there are, and I'm gonna just just go through all of them with you. That was the Gaussian Blur. The motion blur allows you to make it look like something's moving or something's disappearing off into the distance. So this is great to use with different layers, just pulls. Looks like motion just pulls it across, makes it like something's moving perspective, blur is another one that's great to use, while Teoh kind of make things like like it's moving off, moving back into the distance because it's blurring out of your directive vision. Sharpen will do just that. It will sharpen whatever's on the canvas. This is great for making things sort of pop in the foreground. And this will add a lot of as you see noises just gonna add a lot of visual like old time eighties effect, which is cool as well. So that liquefy Oh my goodness, that's a whole nother story. It hasn't pulls up its own menu down below where you could do a lot of special effects. But in essence, it's like making your illustration look like a lava lamp. It's just so much fun. Sometimes I turn this on and I just play. It is just way cool, but you can actually twirl in the right and left direction vice by hitting the twirl buttons down here. The first effect was the push, but you can see there so many different things you can do down there, and that's just a whole nother thing to play with. The hue, saturation and brightness will allow you to take a one work and change the entire color spectrum so you can just a few clicks. Ah, if you want to create a series of illustrations, this is a fantastic way to just change the color. Um, color interface is another way that you can go in directly and change presets that way, so it gives you another option of how to change your highlights or mid tones shadows and do some more detailed at its and you can see there's a whole undo button there that you can. You can do a preview so you don't actually change your work. But you can see it before you change it so that lots of stuff to to discover their curves allows you to change color just by curving this line, and you can do it in a lot of different all the way from black and white, all the way to supersaturated anywhere in between. You can change the curve at different points, can undo it quickly, and then re color again allows you to see your canvas in different colors without actually changing it. So that is another really great option. If you want to see what? Your image is gonna look like her. Your painting is gonna look like in different color ways. This is fantastic. So now we're gonna go to the selection tool so I can go ahead and draw around a selected item. Click the little arrow next to it, Move it, blow it up, rotate it. This is really fun when you're working with patterns. Ah, but even in an illustration, if you wanna work something all on its own, you can separate it from the illustration or you can go to that layer. And the pointer tool that is called the transform tool will allow you to move these things on their own again. Rotate it different directions. So this is a wonderful, wonderful tool. I really recommend you go in and just play with this. Um, this This allows you to blow it up, uh, fitted to the canvas. So it's touching all sides of the canvas from the whitest point, and if it just used to transform tool by itself, it will move anything on that layer. So that's a bit of a tour for you. I did not touch on everything procreate. So please, I encourage you to play on your own. Next up is making a guide for your fashion illustration. I'll see you there 4. Note: just a quick note. Before you start any work, please click the wrench icon at the top left of your screen and go to video under actions. I'd like you to toggle the time lapse video button so that it's blue. I will explain in more detail in a later video. All about this for now, let's get our sketch started. 5. Inspiration: so I'm going to take you through some of my most inspiring digital spots, first of all, being Pinterest dot com. Um, this is a huge search engine that is very visually oriented, which for artists I think it's so perfect is just chock full of because you have searched color palettes and it's bringing up some really gorgeous images with these color palettes next to them. This really helps me get inspired because images, uh, really moved me. And when I see the color palettes alongside the image, it just is such a more powerful story that goes along with that color palette, as opposed to if it was on its own. So I go through and I look through. Sometimes I put a search word in front of color palettes just to bring up something more specific. But if I don't know what I'm looking for, uh, that's a great way to start. I have. Ah, this is my Pinterest account, and I have a board dedicated just to color palettes. I have them. I have color trends as well, but I have one just for color palettes. I will give you a link to Ah, so you can see what kinds of things I've saved. What kinds of things have inspired me to, uh, create certain projects and certain mood boards specifically so you can go through this and find your own inspiration, or you could do your very own search, but I'll show you the kinds of things that I have in my color palette board. You can see there's a lot of different types of color inspiration here. Um, for example, this one was inspired by food. Uh, but I This color palette is so gorgeous, and it's perfect for a fall look, you'll probably see this come upon my instagram later on. So I'm gonna save an image of that bite clicking the bottom button and the very top button together at the same time, and it will go straight to my photos. Another huge color inspiration for me is pantone dot com. Pantone has been a world leader on color for decades. They inspire the design industries from fashion to graphic design to, you know, car designed to I mean, it's it's limitless. What? Pantone Ah functions as this is the page that they have saved in construction with New York Fashion Week to come up with a 2019 autumn winter palette. There's also the wedding wire that has collaborated with Pantone to come up with several wedding palates for 2019. So people looking to put together a wedding can come on this page and search for a trending palate for the year for their own wedding. And for, you know, wedding planners. I'm sure use this a lot, as well as wedding designers of all types, cake designers, wedding dress and wedding. You know, floral designers, all kinds of designers. Google is, of course, going to be a wonderful source for your color palette search. And, of course, you know that the trending items will come up first, so you will see some of this is a gorgeous autumn palette as well. You'll you'll see all different sorts of pallets come up. Ah, yearly pallets, seasonal pallets. Um, this gorgeous floral color palette is super stunning. I love this very much. I think I will actually come back and use that. In fact, maybe I will go ahead and pin that to my board right now. So I will click the little arrow at the top Select Pinterest you'll see. There's a lot of other options. You can do that. I'm gonna go ahead and put this on my color palette board, so I'm gonna click on that image. But I see some couple other images I like very much to. So I think I'll go ahead and save those at the same time and then hit the next button and go ahead and click the board that I want, which was my color palettes board and that quickly, you can say that to your Pinterest board. But I think I'll also take a screenshot again by hitting the bottom middle button and the very top top button on the right and scale this image down and go ahead and save it to my photos. And I can have that at my fingertips later on. I think I would love to use that that theme. Um, I also have another board that I've saved called Mood Board, and in there I have You could get a ton of ideas for this project. You'll see fashion mood boards, art mood boards. Here's a mood board I saved on my own art for July. Ah, here's another version of it in the time lapse video, and you can see how the time lapse video really stands out in a sea of static images. Great way to get noticed. Here's another mood board that not only post color, but it really focuses on a texture. I think that's quite nice, so you can use your mood board, too. Outline. Here's another one that's a great design would board. It shows a pattern design to fashion looks and a home design look in the same color palette . Many of these have included their color palettes at the bottom. That is definitely something that you can do as well, or you can leave it plane like this one. This is like an influencer mood board with some greenery and some photo filters and some script, some cool script outlying their theme. Here's another example of an influencer mood board with the same types of elements, but they've added some splatter. A couple of color palette, uh, colors on there and some script. Here's another one. This is great for blogging, um, for coarser, for your instagram and so forth and so on. Here's one that's strictly all pattern great for the fashion industry or the home industry , so you can see there's all these different. This one's very spring summer look with a very painterly theme, but it goes on and on. There's just so many things you can do with these mood boards to communicate your ideas. Many designers use thes for communicating ideas to their clients about the projects are doing for them, and through these mood boards, a client can guide them by making shifts in the design theme through these mood boards. So there are a wonderful tool, but also just an awesome way to get noticed. Could see this one has several different photos to tell their story. Here's another one with the title of the Mood Board, so I will be showing you how to add text to your mood board as well. So I can't wait to see what you choose for your inspiration, and I will see in the next video 6. Building a Color Palette: So I have selected this color palette from my Pinterest page by tandem for two dot com, and I'm gonna snap it a screenshot by clicking the top right button on my iPad and the middle button on the bottom where my thumb goes. I'm going to scale down this image to fit. So it's on Lee showing the image portion that I want. I'm going to click done. That's great. That's nice and centered. Then I'm going to click done and saved two photos. So now it's gone into my my photos and I can pull it into my appropriate project. So I'm gonna open procreate. I'm going to click the plus button to open a new canvas and I'm going to hit the square option. And as my canvas opens, I'm going to hit the wrench tool at the top left hit. Add the plus symbol, the left for actions, and I'm gonna hit in sort of photo second option down, and I'm going to hit all photos and find the image. I just pulled in and click on it, and you can see it just automatically goes into my canvas. I'm gonna blow it up a little bit by pinching and zooming out with my two fingers. And by clicking on the first image you can see it just plopped right into the top right circle, which is my color picker. And, uh, I I'm going to show you how, By doing this, I have created a color palette in procreate and I'm gonna show you this step by step. So in Color Palace, I'm gonna hit the plus sign on the top right of the color palettes window and you can see it's opened up a untitled palette right here with little squares in him that I can set colors in. So first of all, I'm going to go ahead and go ahead and hold my finger down the first color and let go, and you could see it goes into the color picker again. And then I'm going to click on the first square, Mike, untitled palette with my finger, and you could see the color will appear just automatically. So I'm going to go through each color and I'm gonna put down my finger on the turquoise or aqua and go ahead and put my finger down on my color palette again. And you could see it plops right in there, and I could do it for each color and just one by one. And I'm gonna click outside my color palette for a pure white and pop that into my color palette. But I want us. I want some other tones in my projects besides just these four colors. So I'm going to call it and show you how I go into the second menu button at the bottom for the color called Classic, and I'm gonna click over to a lighter hue. Um, I clicked over about halfway over, and that color looks really pretty, and I clicked onto my color palette. And then by dragging and dropping the color, I can move it over next to my original coral and because he drag and just drop it right over next to my corals so I could see the progression of my colors for Aqua. I'm going to select a little darker one. Put it in my color palette, but this time I'm gonna drag my medium aqua color and drag it over on the other side, um, and then select a lighter color and just plop that right into the last square there. So I have my corals, and my talk was separated and whips. I have just added an extra aqua color I don't want, but that's easily fixed by just clicking on the color. It will give you an option to delete. And you just click the delete and Scott so very easily you'll see how I've created this color palette. Um, so quickly, Uh, and you could see if you drag it over to the left, you can share by messaging it, um, putting it on Pinterest, whatever. But I don't want to do that. I just want to delete it. So I'm gonna sweat to the left and hit, delete. And now I have a color palette. I will see you in the next video to show you how I'm gonna use that color palette. Now, see, there 7. Duotone Tool: so I'd like to share this really amazing tool with you online. It's a duo tone pages which converts your images to do. Oh, tones. Ah, it's done by shape factory dot ceo and all you have to dio is plop a code into this into both plot two different codes into the both of these fields. So I'm gonna go ahead and go into my color palettes for this project and I'm going to click a color. And I'm going to select the third button down at the bottom called value and you'll see about 3/4 of the way up there is a hex of code that you copy. You're just gonna click on it, copy it and then go back to that web page for the duo tone and paste it into the first field and you could see my pink has already been entered. So I'm gonna go ahead and do that again for an aqua color. So back to my procreate, I'm gonna select my light aqua from mid aqua toned. Copy that hex code again and paste it into the bottom field. And what this will do is it will automatically take my lighter color and put it on the light tones in the image and my darker color vehicle in the dark tones of the image. And you can see from image to image. If there's a lot of light tones, you'll see a lot of pink. And if there's a lot of dark tones, you'll see a lot of aqua. So I'm going to go ahead and do this, um, for a couple of my images. So I'm gonna hit the arrow at the top for upload, and I have to hit it sometimes a couple of times for it to bring up the photo. Ah, options. So I'm gonna hit my photo library and I'm gonna go to my, ah, my photo folder called logos because I will be uploading my logos. So a fun thing I do is on Instagram. I select a mood board color palette each month, and then I go ahead and do corresponding colors on my logos because I think it's quite fun . So I'm going to go ahead and save it by hitting the top arrow on the Web page, hitting saved image, and it will go directly to my photos. So I'm gonna go ahead and do this again. That was my word, Mark. I'm going to go ahead and do it for my logo, Mark, which is my logo image. Um, I have selected an octopus theme since my company name is Octopus Connection. So I'm going to go back to my logo older and find my Octopus illustration that I've created for my brand. And once again, I'm going to hit the arrow. At the top of the Web page sits Save image. And if I go to my images, you'll see that both of my logos are saved. They're at the very to last images. You will see them. So next up, we'll see what to do with all these images. See there. 8. Composing a Mood Board: So I've created some artwork with these color palettes are with this color palette, rather, and I If you have images, you can put it through the duo tone AP. And even if you have artwork images of your artwork, you could put through the duo tone app. You don't necessarily have to create artwork in these colors, but I've done that just because I create a monthly color mood board on my INSTAGRAM account and I'll leave a, uh, a link for you to look at that. And every month I have different color palettes. So I have done this artwork for my instagram, and I'm going to go ahead and repurpose it for this mood board, and it will showcase my colors for the month is at the same time. So I'm gonna go ahead and drop all of these images into this mood board into this canvas rather, and while I'm dropping them in, I'm kind of already thinking, Where am I gonna place this image? So that's why I'm going a little slowly with it, but you can definitely move a little quicker. This lobster was actually my inspiration for this entire pallet, so I might want to really showcase that. We'll see. We'll see how it fits in. It's a little bit darker is in some of the other images. So see how that goes. Um oh, yes, bicycle. That was a fun one. As I'm doing this, I'm kind of reminiscing about my art and what I was thinking when I made it. And these mood boards really mean a lot to me. They really, um it's kind of the culmination of a whole month's work for me. In a sense, make sure to include the logos that I changed, that I converted to this color palette. Okay, and you'll see here that for every layer is an image. So as I added, images procreate created a layer for each one of them, so it makes it really simple to move them around. If I hit the selection tool at the top toolbar, the fourth tool over is the selection tool, and it allows me to move these photos around freely if as long as I am on that layer outlier selected. So um, you'll see these little sea creatures moving around the background, putting, placing them in the middle, and then I can go through. I'm just gonna zoom out so I could see my whole canvas. I'm going to select another layer and hit the selection tool and move that one around. It's gonna take a little bit of time for me to OK, here's another example. As I move that layer underneath the sea creatures layer and move it over. You'll see it's now underneath, and I can hide that logo that I had put on there. Um, I did put logo's on all these images when I posted them on instagram, but I don't necessarily want them to show on all these images. So I'm going to do with something a little tricky and put some of these, um, watermarks, as it were my watermark logo underneath some of the other images. So I'm going to be taking that into consideration when I place these pieces. And right now, none of my logo's air really showing except the lobster one and it's white. So it kind of blends into the background on that images on that image, so it's not so blaring in your face. I already have, uh, my two logo images so included in this mood board so I don't want to. Many logos popping all over the place just a little makes a little busy, so I'm clicking on the layer with the bicycle and making it a little bit smaller so you can play with size on this to you can just resize them. Move them all over the place. Uh, change if there, underneath or on top, just by dragging the layers, just hold it down to your finger and drag him down underneath another layer to change the placement or change the um yeah, whether they're on top or below, just like that, clicking and dragging with my finger, that layer right underneath. So I know that logo will be hidden underneath that image. Or if I want the outline of that image showing up like the like, this one, it makes for a nice little visual interest as well. So this is going to take some time just gonna keep shocking these around until I feel like it's sending the message that I want. And visually, it's it's pleasing. There's disguise the limit with this, and you know, I could make thes all pretty equal sizes and just make blocks across the screen. like two rows of blocks. Many mood boards look fantastic that way. It's just that when I'm doing an art mood board, I really want the images to be as interesting or the placement of the images to be as interesting as the artwork that's in it. That's part of my strategy for making these mood boards visually appealing, and I want people to to want to look at them. So I want to show you a really fun trick. And by clicking on it a layer and then swiping right on the one below it, you join them. So when I hit my selection tool, you can see it grabs both of those images, and I can move them as one. Um, so this is really great for moving around, re sizing. You could make it bigger, Smaller? Um, but if I like the placement, it's a great way to kind of save myself a lot of time. There it is. Bigger, which I don't necessarily think I want. Oh, and you can see me trying to move it while I don't have the uniform too long. So I'm gonna tap two fingers on the screen to take it back and hit uniforms. So now I can move it around without worrying about changing the, um, the proportion. So I wanted to show you that, cause you could do that with with one or more of these. In fact, at the end, I will be moving all of these around to, uh, just make sure the placement is correct and have enough room for a text at the top. I think I want to make this fashion illustration bigger. It just it's light enough. It can take up more visual space without taking over. Put it right in the middle, Alex. Really nice and again, I think I want to remove those logo images just over a little bit. So I'm trying to make them the same distance from the edge as the fashion illustration is, so that there's some continuity there. Sometimes I accidentally tapped my brush and create brush strokes on my mood boards. You'll see to be doing that a few times. It's just see, there I go again. Just hit the wrong tool. It's gonna happen. If you just tap two fingers on your screen. You'll just take that step right back. I think you can just keep right on going. I'm just toying with the idea of keeping all of these. Top image is the same distance, but I don't want them to look to planned or too predictable. Part of the charm of this project is to create a composition that's really unique and different and keeps the viewer moving through the composition. But you can do your mood board anyway you like. And many. Many mood boards were very successful in block form. So by all means, if you feel like that's what your brand needs or your that's what you want to do for your project, for for sure, that's a great option. That's looking pretty good. Next up, using text see there. 9. Adding Text : Okay, so we're gonna add some text to this project by going into the wrench tool at the top left menu. We're gonna hit Stay on ad in the first row, First option and hit ad text. The fourth option down. You'll see a text box will come up. And if you hit and its style the blue button on the right at the top of the keyboard, you'll see an entirely new menu will come up with all sorts of options for font style design. But we're just gonna bold this text for right now, and we'll go over the rest of this later. So my text is now Boldin and I can type my keyboard reappears, liken, type, whatever it like in there. Um, from there, I can move this around, and in doing that, I can see it goes behind that lobster image. So I don't want that to be disappointed with my text to be disappearing behind stuff. So I'm gonna go into the layers menu, and I'm going to take that procreate layer and I'm gonna drag and drop it with my finger up to the very top. So it's always gonna be on top of any image. I put it over and from here I'd like to own, and it can also asl long as it's it's ah highlighted. That word has to be highlighted to change the color. So from what it's highlighted, you can see now I can access the color picker and choose any colors I want from my color palette or any other color for that matter in the Klassiker disc menu. But I want to keep it within my color palette. From here. I'd like to add another text box. I'm gonna go back into the wrench tool, add and add text and you'll see another text box appears, uh, I'm gonna quit type in my next form of text. Okay, great. So once again, if I have these letters highlighted, I can go ahead and change the color cause I wanted to be different than the top text box, and I'll change it to kind of an opposite color in my color palette. But I can use any color I want on. Any of the many is below ought from there. I'm gonna bring up the edit style menu, and I can change this font. There's so many different font options. You can just play around and try different ones to see what works best for your project. Um, from there, I'm going to create a new layer because I realized thes these colors just blend into my art too much. So I want to move thes first. So I'm going to click on my top text layer and swipe to the right on the second text layer . And now hitting the direction tool. I can move these together like I did the artwork earlier in the project. Now I want to center that procreate word over the mood boards by just clicking on that one layer hitting the direction tool. Actually, I don't even have to do that. The text boxes move around independently. So now I'm ready to put a box of color behind it so that it stands out more so I'm gonna go to this new layer I've created, and I put it underneath my lettering on purpose. It would be behind. I'm going to go to the second option under the wrench tool called canvas and turn on the drawing guide hit the edit drawing guide option underneath and then on the bottom right grid size slider. I'm gonna You can see these boxes get bigger and smaller. I'm going to choose the size and hit done on the top, right, And then you'll see these boxes kind of stayed in my project. I'm going to select a good clean brush like studio pen. It's like the light color from my color palette and start drawing a line and hold, and it will automatically snap to straight, and I can move it wherever I wanted. I can put it right on the point there where those two lines intersect and start my next line. Following these lines, I can keep my points correct. As long as they end up in the right place, that line will be as straight as I need it to be again, starting at that where I left off, drawing all the way across and ending up. At that point, I could hold, and it will straighten right out on that line and one more time. Boom. As long as all these lines are touching, I can now drag and drop my color for my color picker in to make a solid clean box. And because it's on its own layer. I can hit the direction tool now and move it. It's already placed behind my text, and I can resize it to anything I want. So as long as you have a box now, you can make it a square. You could make it whatever. It's just very easy to do, but it's a little opaque and I can't see my art. So I'm gonna open the layer and hit the end. Next, little check Mark and the first slider is opacity. I'm going to take it down to about 75% and I can see just see my art underneath it. It doesn't doesn't block it. That's a nice effect. So that is a nice look. I can go ahead and go to canvas and turn off the drawing guide so I can see my project without the all those lines on it now and well, uh, so from here, I can go ahead and finalize my my color. I have decided pretty much to go with black, but I'm just playing with a couple other things. Just to be sure, Block seems to be, even though it's not in my color palette, it stands out going back to the edit style menu. I just want to make sure I've got the right style for my text for the font. Rather, um, that's a fun I made from a class by Liz Color Brown Superfund fought making. Um, but I think I pretty much settled on Bradley. I really like the Bradley. That's a little rough. I think I'm gonna go back to Bradley, but in the meantime, there we go. That's our text. I can't wait to see if you're gonna add text or what you'd like to do for that. When you're done, you can hit the top left keyboard, uh, icon to go back to the keyboard or click off to go back to your project. I'll see you in the next video to start orientation. 10. Orientations: So I'm going to go over some orientations with you, starting with the portrait orientation. And I'm gonna open my screen size and flip this around So it's portrait if you're holding your iPad or tablet in portrait orientation that you don't have to flip it. I'm just doing this for the purpose of the class, and I'm gonna go ahead and pull my images into this canvas one at a time. And this portrait orientation works well for, um sometimes I g tv Ah, stories. Definitely. Pinterest is perfect for this. Um so it's a good consideration to think about how you might want to redo your mood boards for different social networks. Different, you know, formats for blogging or whatever. So now all of my images air here, and I can go ahead and start playing with them. Wantedto want one by one, just selecting the layers and hitting the direction tool to move them around until I feel like it's a composition that works for this orientation. I really like the fashion girl in the middle because she's already kind of portrait orientation, so it sort of sets the mood for the entire for the entire composition and I'm just gonna take my time to just keep playing around. Just takes a little bit of time. It's kind of fun just to see how you can make different looks by moving these pictures around, moving them in front of one another by moving each layer up and down, um, and so forth. So I want to make sure that these logos are still small, but whoa, did you see what just happened in my logo? It got kind of squatty, so I really want to select uniform and Magnetics at the bottom menu. Sometimes you can move them around without doing that, but every once in a while you'll just click it a little. Click your image a little weird, and it'll get kind of funky looking. So you just have to go back and select uniform and Magnetics each time you move your image and you'll be fine. Yeah, I think I want this logo a bit smaller. That's kind of cool hoops, and I did it again to my Little Octopus. So again I want to select uniform of magnetic so I don't work it. And now, since I am really happy with his composition I want to click the top layer and swipe right on All the rest of them hit the direction tool. And now I can move them all together as one one layer one pc. I'll become joined, and I just want to move that down a little bit. And now I'm gonna add my text. And I have myself a really nice portrait Orientation Mood board. Next, I'm gonna go over the square orientation with you. And really, the key to this is just working with that square shape and kind of keeping your items. I kind of make a square, Basically. I mean, that sounds kind of obvious, but it's not necessarily obvious. So I kind of make sure I have some something dark in each corner and keep the lighter things in in the centre like the bicycle is. And it works quite well. And landscape orientation. Uh, we went over before in the first video, so you can see that was perfect for, you know, YouTube and so forth. Square orientation is perfect for Instagram, So I hope you find this useful and I will see you in the next video 11. Time Lapse Video: e. I want to show you how you can save your time lapse video and how to access it. If you toggled the time lapse recording button at the beginning of this class, you will have a culmination of all your work compressed into this little video, and you can see it by hitting the time lapse replay button above the toggle button. Just push that. Press that line, and it will play back everything that you did in this con, this canvas. So it's pretty cool. Um, you can save this video by going back to the menu of the brunch icon, go to video and then hit export time Lapse, and then you can see the options of saving the video to your camera. Roll messaging it, e mailing it, putting it on a social network. So there's quite a few options to do. Once you do that, you'll have it at your fingertips to use for projects posts. I'll see you next time 13. Bonus Video: so I wanted to create an additional video for you guys, just so you can see how I create a color palette in conjunction with my mood board. So in just selecting all these images, I'm gonna hit the direction selection tool and just scale this down and move it up. Now, you can put your color palette anywhere I like to put mine on the bottom just so the art remains in the center of the project, and it remains the focal point. But you can put yours anywhere you like, and I'm gonna do mine with circles. Um, so first off, I'm gonna go into my color palette and select the color palate palette I used for this project and picked my first color. Gonna pick this aqua and zoo man. And I'm gonna do mine with circles. You can do all kinds of shapes, which I'll show you in a minute. But to create a nice, nice, smooth brush like inky And you can see I've created a circle. I'm gonna do that again much more slowly. I'm gonna draw circle and I'm gonna hold it. And then a tap with one finger anywhere on the canvas. which creates a perfect circle like that. That's we're going for here. So I'm gonna undo that. And I'm gonna open a new layer because I want to be able to do some fun things with this circle once I get it done. So once again draw my circle hold and then tap with one finger creates my perfect circle. I could drag and drop my color right into it, hitting the direction to look and scale it down. Move it up. I now have my first color in the palate. Now, I can just as easily do this with a square if I prefer by just drawing a squares. I did the circle get my thinking brush going again and hold and then tap with one finger and you can see that didn't quite get finished. But I could just easily if I could actually clean that up a little bit more. But from now I could just drop in the color and you could you have a square right here. So rather than drawing more script circles, I can swipe down on the screen with three fingers and this menu pops up, I'm gonna hit the bottom right button, copy and paste. And if I hit the direction tool again, you're gonna see I have two layers that if I hit that direction tool, I could move it right over it just created itself right on top of the other. And I have a second circle in my palette. So in Crean selecting another color, I could go and drag and drop that in. We have now have two colors in our palate, and I'm gonna go ahead and just copy and paste a couple more times. Here we go. And I'm going to go ahead and move those circles over into their spots and you can see this horizontal line pop up. That procreate keeps you on track. So they're nice and straight. Um, I'm gonna hit the next the next layer and moved that one over, so you have to be in each circle layer to do things with them. So you can see if I select this color and I drag and drop it into that circle, it won't work because I'm not in that circle layer. I have just go ahead. And if you can click the check box on that layer panel there you can see that got a little lighter. So I was actually on the wrong circle layer. I think that color is a bit light for that white background. So I think I'm going to go ahead and change it to the lighter Sam une color. Think that will look nicer? Yeah, I like that. Better already. So I'm gonna go ahead and go with a darker aqua like a dark teal for this last circle going back onto the layer, going to go ahead, select the dark teal and fill that up. So I now have an entire color palette. I can add to it or take away, but I like four. Think that's good. I'm gonna go and select all of these layers so they act is one hit the direction tool and move them over. So I have a centered color palette right underneath my art with the text up above.
