1. Introduction: Heytens, welcome to this photo shop personal designing class. I'm Shivani Rape designer and freelance illustrator, spending time designing various illustrations, templates, and designs for stores, brands, fashion labels and more. I have been in this line for quite a time. Now I want to help you guys, you budding designer fellows who want to become an astonishing designer, but find it hard. And how to start and learn, make and work upon design and projects that not just look natural and real life projects also help you learn new skills in a certain professional way. I have designed this class so that anyone who is a beginner or a learner or a pro will find themselves involved in this and would take off something or the other as the outcome benefit. This class is crafted with short lessons, each specified on a certain process or a step to build up the project. At last, we will together learn in this all about Photoshop selection process, mastering and refining the selections, learning about the layouts, and play with a text in the poster design. Finally, we'll create something of our own, the work around it. So for the more variations, more options. Last, we will learn how to save and export it for final or further use. This class is full of learning objectives, process foreign creation. Hurry up and join me now in this one class to get you started. 2. Gather Your Assets: Before we jump start our design process, let's first understand about the style and design references for the project. Our project for this class is to create a poster design. Firstly, by posters. We started with a poster design because of various reasons. The number one is that being a poster, it is a rectangular plan design. That means it is universal style. Once we are ready to play and stand this space, we can create loads and loads of designs like this, like Facebook banners, posters, Instagram posts, Pinterest designs, web banners, business cards, visiting cards, invitations and so much more. I think poster design is a great way to start your journey or to brush up your skills. Number two, it is much more practical. As you can hear, you want to create something really worthy, professional, and useful. Not just showcasing your skills in a fancy world, but to a more useful, real, and applicable in the world thing. When it comes to useful designs, I mean making something for sale as a discount offer or a promotional der for a store or shop design for promoting the social cause. All of this you will learn, you can apply on Es skills there. Let's start by having a quick look in the Photoshop work space. I'm right into the Photoshop screen here. If you are also having Photoshop CC 2020 or so, your screen must be looking somewhat similar to mine. Here you can go to file, select New, or hit control or command in your keyboard to open the new document dialog box. In this proper box, you can see there are multiple settings and criteria. First, we have our file name. You can rename the file if you want, as I'm doing it here. Then we have dimensions of the file with the unit it's counting in. We have the units as pixels, inches, centimeter, millimeter, and so on. If you are working with a file for digital use, I would suggest to work with the pixels. But if you are working for the end result to be in the print file, then make sure you are in the inches, centimeter, or levator. Also, you can select the orientation of your art mode as a landscape or portrait. Also, you can choose the set file dimensions from loads of standard set file size. Here you can see or you can just enter your custom details manually. Next important thing is resolution. When working for a digital file, make sure you resolution is 72 pixels per inch. If you're working the print file, make sure you are using the set of 300 pixels per inch. Next, turning to the color mode, depending upon the file purpose, set the color mode to the GP. If working for digital or CMYK, if the project is for the print purpose, you will notice as we change the color mode, the color profile automatically switch to the corresponding profiles for the CMYK is argues Lg. Now we have the background fill pre chosen color as it we are all set to create a new file in work in Photoshop. Hit Create, and let's move to another lesson to learn about the next step, refi. 3. Inspiration & Layouts: Before we start with a Photoshop file, let's learn about some theories about attractive and enhanced posters with creative efforts and modern day style. There are tons of design that you can create and execute for your project. To understand them better, I have a few of them on the screen for you right now. Let's understand diamond. You can see this is the first reference I have. The designer played with model and vectors style shape to enhance the look and make it a three D air space look for the poster. Also, he played here with the shadows of the player to give the proper real look. Now next in here again designer here played well with the placement of model and the rectangle. This just disrupts the monotony of the poster and keeps the look of the poster as a minimal mute look. Again, the shadows are also used here, but this time it is a very soft way to keep the look proper align to the minimal theme. This is an example of how you can also use the skills that you are going to be re, learning in this class to make a professional looking attractive magazine cover page like this or an advertisement posters. Now this is a quite interactive post for Instagram banner ad. Here you can see how designer player with the background color gradients adding so many elements to the blanket space to the sites, but there's the widest space to play upon. There is a certain balance of design on both sides of the model. As you can see here. Color balance also gives a very good perspective. Adding hook text as a big text, then placing the other details. And the essential text gives us an idea of how to play the things around and still keep information in place to focus on them. You can find such attractive and useful references anytime, anywhere near or around you. By posters on walls, notice boards scrolling your social media accounts and so much more. Just keep an eye for the designer looks and inspiration you motivated and updated with the latest ongoing looks and styles. Now once we are pretty clear on the design elements and the layout of structure for a professional poster, let's work on the poster layout. Take time, sit down with your pen. Sketch down a few ideas as I did here. As you can see, I'm having these few rough sketches to put together and play with our project. Now the next step is to choose the perfect picture for the product. Few guidelines to keep in mind while searching a good picture for your project Is. Number one, make sure the size and dimension of the picture is of H quality. Number two, make sure the object of the image is really in focus. Number three, prefer to search and download your image in full quality. This can be easily done from any free stock photo site like Pexels.com Unsplash.com and any of those such. 4. Basic Practices: Hey, again, I'm back on the Photoshop screen. We already have chosen our file to work with. Now time to bring in the file to Photoshop and work upon it. There are various ways you can open the file in Photoshop. One is to Google file and select Open and then browse your image file from a particular folder where you have downloaded it or saved it. You can just drag and drop the image in the Photoshop screen or on your canvas where you are on our way. Working here, I did it in both ways. If you have your image open, in the next step, you can simply drag the image to the file that you're working in like this. Either way, it is good enough. You can anytime resize your image as per your canvas size by using the transform tool shortcut and from the above, make sure you show transform control is checked here. Now you can just control the size and adjust it as your own way. Let's move to the next lesson. Let's start working on the image. 5. Making Selection: Now I have our lineage opening Photoshop, and I want our object to be free of the background, which means I want the model to be cut out from the background. To do that, first have a look at the layer panel. Here it is locked as the background. We cannot delete or do anything with it. The first step is to duplicate this layer. Rightly choose duplicate layer, rename it if you want to. And then hit okay, just turn off the visibility of the base layer. This way we have our main file saved as it is for any further use, and we have a duplicate layer to work upon. Now working in the duplicate layer, we need to select our object separately from the background. To do this, you really need to work closely on the image. For that, you can zoom into the image by hitting controller command plus. And then use the shortcut spacebar from the keyboard or the hand tool from the toolbar. Both act as the hand tool like this and move from one area to the other. And this will give you much more clear look. Now select the subject. Use quick selection tool from the short cut, the blue or from the tool bar. And then check the properties above here. It must be similar to you and now it's all good to work with. Let's start selecting the subject one by one. We are using the add on selection from the setting above so that we can keep adding to the prior selection. As this, once you are done, you can stop. Now we have the whole selected area. One way is that we can simply cut out the other layer. But that way it is just a rough method, we can't refine or reform it anymore. A better way is to mask the selection. Go to the Layer menu, We have the rectangle, then here it is, the mask. Then click on it and hit it. Then we have the selected area as shown, and the rest is hit. The mask is formed on that particular layer. 6. Refining Selection: I hope you are quite clear up to this step. Now we have to refine and modify our selection into something more and more rope and a clean one. All that first go to the properties window here or select the properties from the windows minu, select the mask thumb mail and click on the properties here. Set the opacity to a lower percentage of, say, 50 to 60% Add a solid color layer below the working layer by using this option from the layer below here. Select add solid color layer. And choose the particular color like this, I'm using black so that I can see the details in a much better way. Now select the mask thumbnail and zoom in on the image. So you are working in detail. You can see these small fragments of not so clean selection. To remove this, just select brush tool from the toolbar or shortcut B for the brush tool. Here in colors, you have black in foreground and white as the background. White shoes and black heights painting with a black color. To remove or hide the extra selection, just paint over the areas that you want to remove. Like this, you see the magic just switching the size of the brush by manually or from the settings above or by the short cut. Left rectangle bracket for decreasing the size, and right rectangle bracket for increasing the size. From the keyboard. For the areas that you want to reveal the mask, use white color in foreground and paint the areas as I'm doing now. Now it is shown in the subject. Go ahead and check further for the details to edit. Once you're happy, again, go to Properties panel with mask comm nail selected and turn the opacity back to 100% This way we have the selection clean and clear and free of the background with high quality in place. This was what you wanted. Let's lead to the next lesson to learn about the 7. Working with Text: Hey, I hope you now have a clear select subject volume project. Let's add text to it. Selected text tool from the tool. Click on the cameras to add text. This will add a new layer above all, as the text layer and type in your text. You can resize them, recolor it anytime as you wish. If you want to change the typeface or the select the things from the above here or you can just make the font size bigger using the transform tool. Now this is time for you for the magic action to work. Place the text below the cut off. Last play from the layer panel. Just draw it down for adding further detail. I will add shadows to the selected text. Select the text here. Now choose the effects from the below icon in the layer panel here. Drop shadow option from the panel and set the settings. Or if it is okay in the preview, if you're happy. Now it's time for the next magic trick to make your poster look more interactive and enhancing hold controller command select the text player. This makes the selection of text like this. You can see the matching s. Now go to the masker thumb in the object or the subject, select it and use a brush tool. Again, as we did while masking the areas in the last lesson. This time paint the areas where you want to reveal the text or hide the text. As I did in the lesson I'm doing here right now, you can see how it's coming up. Isn't this going interesting? I hope you've got the idea and you can play and find a perfect match for the project. 8. Explore Variations & Options: So now back in Photoshop, we have the poster that we completed in our last class. Now in this lesson, we are going to explore and add more details, more elements to make some variations, different styles, a poster, you can start by adding some elements like a zometrical shape using the shape tool from the toolbar. And make a box and change its fill to the stroke, Increase the size of the stroke to see how interesting it's coming out. This is still behind the object so that you can switch more solid color background by using the, the adjustment tool from the layer panel. We used the image as the background, now we used a solid color. This gives some another look. Now let's add a more fun part, adding the shadow to the subject. It's a pretty easy way to do is duplicate the subject layer by heading control command J. In the duplicate layer, select the mask mal, right click and select Apply Layer Mask. Now now hold the control or command and click on the layer thumb. This will activate the selected area selection. That particular object selection now make a new layer above it and just fill it with the black color. This will fill the selected area as the black because the selection is active. Using the paint bucket tool, I use paint bucket tool to fill the selection in the new layer. Place that layer below the subject, our subject layer. Adjust the placement of shadow below the, it looks pretty real, something sideways. Okay, here you can see how it displays. And now go to Filter menu, select the blur and use the gushing blur. Now you can play and choose the amount of blur that you need. Once you're happy, just hit okay. You can try and add some or more elements of your choice. Like a custom made line by pento could help you look more attractive and great. Again, you can add wonder to it. As we did for the rectangle and text earlier, we just made the subject interact with them like that. I hope you like it this way that we created variations out of the mail file. And I hope you're pretty clear on the steps we followed and we used the.
