1. Introduction: Hello all my dear students. Welcome back to another new course. I am parna Chaudhuri, and you are going to learn how to draw Colored Pencil Portrait. In this course, I discuss all the steps you need to know to draw Realistic Colored Pencil Portrait. I also explain all the materials you need. And I also explain every step that you need to know to draw Realistic Colored Pencil Portraits. I explain the shading Curie and you can also learn how to Shade from this course. In this course, I explain Face shading process, like how to shade Face, how to make Skin colors. And other than these methods, I also explain Face shading and blending. I explain here and Cloths shading methods. So let's learn how to draw Realistic Colored Pencil Portraits 2. Art Materials : Hey everyone, welcome to this part of the course. So let's talk about which Art Materials you'll need for this course. So the first thing you need is, of course, a set of colored pencils. Because this is a course about how to Shade using colored pencils. How to draw Colored Pencil Portrait, right? So the first thing you need is colored pencils. I'll use the 48 set. You can use a 24 sets set. That's enough, I would say. But I think if you set up 12, that is a little bit less color options. So I suggest that at least use a set of 24. Now about the brand. You can use, like the expensive and good ones, which is like I have a Prismacolor favorite basketball It for most current dash for colored pencil drawings. I feel Prismacolor and spatially, current dash is much better than the favorite castle polychrome was one. And if you don't have these big like artist grade Pencils, you can use like the kid, so on. But at least try, tried to find something that is good in your area and the quality of the Pencil is at least better. Okay? So you can also use Crayola if you want to. The next thing you need is a sketchbook or paper. Like you can use a single paper or sketchbook. Of course, the GSE can be 122-50 because I am drawing using colored pencils. So I feel for Colored Pencils. One-to-two to crypto GSM paper is great. Now you can use smooth or medium green or rough paper. So students, I don't suggest you to use the rough textured paper because I don't think if you're a beginner, you can handle it properly. And I personally don't like rough papers for colored pencils. I always like medium green paper. Smooth paper is also like a no-no. Use a medium green paper or, or any paper with a little grainy, you can use cheap paper also. But I suggest that the DSM is at least 120 DSM because you're gonna leave that Drawing Guide layer. You need to shade with colored pencils so you need more thickness. So at least use one-twenty GSM. So the next thing I use is a graphite pencil. So graphite pencil is for like outlining. And I wanted to say one thing that I don't show, I didn't show the outline process because it's free hand. Okay. So I would say that you can use grid method. That's a very good method to draw accurate outline. And other than that, you can use the normal freehand method. That was good for practice. And the last thing you maybe need a black micron. So it depends on knew that if you want to use it or not. So I did I did do a black micron. And if you have, then you can use a white gel pen for detailing. I didn't use that in this class, but you can use that tool. So that's all, that's all the thing you need. So let's start the course and let's learn how to Shade using colored pencil and how to draw Portrait using Colored minus 3. How to Shade and Blend Skin Tone : Hello students. Welcome to this part of the course. So in this specific part, you're going to learn how to color Skin, like how to Shade Skin, how to blend the colors. This is actually tough for everyone. I would say. Like blending the colors is not that easy. But you're going to learn this in this part. And this is actually not that difficult. Also, I'm going to teach you two methods that you can use in your drawings to blend the color pencil and to live basically shade the Skin. Okay, so let's start. I have this Colored Pencils. There are different shade, but I'm going to teach you with this stays, this, this Shade. I'm going to use this for shade. For this part. I'm going to teach you. So you need to learn and then you can apply this method in every drawing. Here. First swatch this colors, okay? Okay, so first, this is a dark black Tone. This is the lightest tone. And this is actually media. This Tone is kind of weird, so I'm not going to do this. Okay, so we're going to learn how to use the dark to light shading method and light to dark shading with it. So there are two types of shading method. So first, I'm going to teach you how to shade the Skin using dark to light shedding method. First, I'm using that dark guest color that I use for the reference. So here I'm using this kind of a brown color and you can see that I'm using current arche, current dash colored pencils. They are actually good. I am using this color, this dark color, slowly and slowly shading it and building the values. So when you add shading this Skin, I would say don't apply pressure too much. In the first layer. Apply the pressure to Blend but not too much pressure. So then we're going to use a mid tone. On top of that. After you completed with mid-tone, you need to use the lightest tone according to the reference. So here I'm using a light flesh tone and I'm slowly building everything, like the dark area and the mid area together. So slowly, this is the last step you to slowly blend them and shade with them. So after you complete this step, you may see that it looks so good, Really blended and nice and smooth. So this is the, I feel this is really easy. Like the basic thing, you need to use a dark tone first and then Shade. Then use the mid-tone, and then blend everything with the light Tone. And after, use applying this method, if you feel that you may need a little darker value, then you can apply the dark tone or mid tone on top of that and then blend them. Blend the edges. Okay? So that's it. You can do the, this thing. And now we're going to learn how to use that light to dark method. I normally don't use it or to go off ten, but it can also use this method. So at first, I draw this circle to teach you how to use this method. So fast in to fill every area with this light color, the lightest color according to the reference. Okay? So after you done with this process, you need to use the meat, like the middle color, the midtone. So here I applied the mid tone on top of this. And we're going to slowly build a value and slowly shade the area. And then at last, I'm going to use the darker tone. Here. I use the mid tone, but now we're gonna use the darkest tone that I have. I don't enjoy this method actually. But if you feel that this method is work for you, you can use that. So after you like done shading, like leering everything, you need to use the light color again and slowly bring them. Okay. So as you can see, I'm blending them together very easily. And after blending, you feel the darker areas are not that dark. You can layer the dark color. So we are done with the to shading methods, but I especially like the dark to light shading method. You can use any one of them. So now we're going to shade the Face. So let's start the shading process 4. How to shade Face: Hello students, welcome to this part of the course. So as you can see that I start shading the portrait from the eye area because I like to do this step. You can start from anywhere you want. But I feel little please to like start from the IRA. It's my kind of thing. Okay. So as you can see that I use I use some teal colors and then I am darkening it with some blue, darker blue and make Realistic. And here you can see that I'm using different color because my reference photo have this kind of colors. So you need to follow your reference photo. And then you can like do, you can use the shades according to your reference. Then I'm using something like drip very dark colors around the eyes because I'm using dark to light method. Now, what is dark to light material? I explain it earlier in earlier parts. I hope you watch that. So Dr. leitmotif is basically using the dark tones first, then using the mid tones, and then after at last unit to use the light Tone and then blend them together. So that's what I'm doing. And I feel it's good. Like this is the best way to shade the fears. And yeah, I like this to play this step. But you can also try the light to dark shading method, which I, I like already explain that thing. Also, we can try both the steps, dark light meter and like duck method. And can experience, you need to experience to methods. And then you can choose yourself that which methods you like the most, and then use that method. So here you can see I'm shading the nose and I am using the same kind of method, the dark to light method. And slowly, slowly I'm building the values, extending it a little bit and doing everything that I can confused about the color, which Colored to select which colors. Not too slick. So here I'm not like I'm not explaining what shapes I use. Because in every different colors set, like if you are buying polychrome most the Shade names are different. If you are buying a Prismacolor, the shades are, shades name are different. So you may not get the exact Shade. And here, I already told you that I'm using polychrome was a little bit. And mostly I'm using prismacolor and current dash. But I would say I use Prismacolor for 80% of the time to shade the Face atria. And the thing is that you need to, you'll need to have like one light flesh color, which can be a really light skin tone. One is medium brown and brown, hand, one Shade is dark brown. You at least need this kind of shades to color the whole areas like these. Light fresh, medium brown, brown and dark brown. These four shades are most, you can buy them from like loose, loose stocks or any where you can find, you can buy sets. And then the thing you can do is another, like when you are shading, like us shedding light Tone. You can use the light tones. And if that person you are Drawing have like a yellowish, yellowish skin, you can use undisputed rid of yellow to like, make it look realistic. Or if that person have like pink tone, then you can use a little bit, little girl pink cheeks around the nose. So that does Skin Tone matches. So basically the thing is, you need to mix and match the colors. Now, how to mix the colors? How to make different colors from 23 colors that you already have is actually a little bit different. But watch the courses, like my courses or with a little focus. And you're going to understand, okay? So you need to follow the process like how I'm using the Pencils, how I am using the light, how I'm holding the pen, pencils and other things. So we need to watch it closely and understand it slowly. Hand. I would say practice a lot. Like at least give your Art 30 min, minimum time for everyday practice, the anatomy, that is everything. So you can create Realistic arts. As you can see that I'm using this kind of red colors to draw the lips. And at first I use the darker red tone, and then I use the lighter tone. And now I'm feeling that I need a little bit darkness. So that's why I use the another Pencil on the color. So we've almost completed this part just a little bit like this area. And one thing, news, Portrait takes time. So always try to work slowly as much as lowing can do and use less pressure. Okay. So that's it. We completed the Face shading process 5. How to Shade Hair: Here's students, so let's shade the heel part. So now even shade that here. And we're going draw the here. Very pretty. So let's start cells. You can see I'm using a black color and I'm drawing all the strands that I need to draw. Here. I'm using dark to light method. So first I am, so first I am shading or diarrhea with black color, and then I'm using a medium dark brown. And then I'm going to use the light brown and blend them together. So one thing I follow here is I did not follow every stand in the reference photo and just follow the shapes. And I shared the head on my one way. I tried to maintain the shapes accurately, but not all, the thing is similar. Occur like the same as the reference. You need to work slowly, take your time, Draw a shade it slowly and it's gonna look good. So now watch it a little bit. Now students will complete a black a lot. The darker AVR, darker colored area. Actually my reference as two types of, here's the middle. One part is dark and one part is light. So here I'm drawing the light here colored area. So first I'm using some like a yellow color, which is like the dark brownish yellow color. And then I'm going to use the light yellow color. And then I'm going to draw the strands with a darker color. That's the method. It's kinda like a Dr. life method, but it's kinda like you need to use a medium tone first and then blend it with the lighter tone. And then at last unit to add detail using that dark tone. So that's how I'm shading the Hair. And pretty much I like the Drawing, how it's working. One thing is, here, I'm using favor Gaster mostly because I feel favorite costume or not that Blend it. Like you can blend them, but it's like a hard for them. So it's actually good for detail work. Like he feared drawing. Here's, if you're drawing, Here's favor. Gastel works better than Prismacolor. Yeah, coronas is actually good for every bus perspective. You're going to draw good years with favorite guests like poor, like current dash and also we can shade the Skin like beautiful Dutch, but I don't have all the shapes from current dash. I have Prismacolor 72 shares. And the polychrome was I had the 60 box. And I think that's 60 shares is enough for me. Just, I bought another highlight. I tend because that's what missing in that 60 Shade. And in Prismacolor I have 70 to Shade, which is enough, which is more than enough. I would say we completed the Hair shading process. Let's proceed to the next part. 6. How to Shade Cloths and End Part: Hey everyone, So let's start shading Cloths. So at first as you can see, I'm shading using light to dark methods. So I am applying a light layer like a great Tone, add, shading it with a darker color. So you can use this method. And in this part, because of the reference, I am using the black color because this part is absolutely dark in color. So that's why I'm using a black color. And that doesn't mean that I'm applying too much pressure. I'm slowly building up the color and you can use your little pressure, but not too much pressure. Okay? So I'm following the reference and I'm shading it according to how I want it to be. So I think Cloths part is on of the easiest part because you don't need to follow everything. It can Shade according to your choice. And also you can change the color of the dress if you want to. So here, mostly I'm using this black and gray tone. This is a dark gray, but I am shading it lightly so it looks light gray Colored. Light, I would say it's a medium grade Tone because I'm shading it lightly, but if I use pressure, it's going to look black. Here. I'm using a 3D image of patient and I'm layering it. And then I'm using this white color to blend it up little bit. So that's how you shade all the areas. As you can see here. I'm using only this colored pencil to outline this part. Because it's going to look more natural and it is easier way to Shade. And I'm feeling the dark part first. And then I'm going to shade the light parts as well. Okay, for the Cloths, you don't need to remember a lot of things. Just first draw the outline and then apply all the colors. That I think this is the most enjoyable process. I love. Drawing Cloths. Yes, that's true though. Traded up Drawing Cloths. So you're almost done with this sleep. But if you don't know, this is a Portrait of crew a lot you David, I don't know how to pronounce it, but yeah, you can search it and you can search for the reference. Also, almost done with this part. And I'm slowly outlining these areas. And then I'm shading using the same method. So students, this is going to be the last part of this course. It feel like this course makes sure to review it. If you have any inquiries, mentioned it in the discussion section. And I'm going to review all the things that you asked me. So if you have any problems related to anything about Art, I can ask me or and also make sure to you, you my course. And it can all watch all the courses. So we can see I am shading it vary. As you can see, I am shading this part also. And it's looking very soothing, right? Okay, so here I am completing the process I mostly use the white for blending and gray tone or dark gray and black Tone for most of the Part. Because my reference, I use those colors. So you can use these methods in any portrait drawings. And for the colored pencils here you can see that I'm using different, different Colored Pencils. That doesn't mean you don't need to use different brands or something expensive. You can use the normal Pencils in your area. I don't know if you are from India, you can use dorms, colored pencils, gambling colored pencils. And if you are from another place, you can search for you for something like, like something. Some budget friendly colored pencils that works great. And I can use Crayola two. They are good. And also the favorite Gastel colored pencils, like the budget, budget friendly or it's not the expensive polychrome most. But favorite guest still also makes the cheaper versions. And they are also good. I like those. They are also good for portrait. And I would say if you have a set of 38, 30 to maybe 40 or 20 for those that are really great for your work. And that's how I think I'm shooting. I almost completed the process. Here. You can see I'm drawing another slave and it looks really good. I really love this part. I think I shaded This Part a vector. And yeah, that's all outfile. If you'd like this course, then definitely watch all the courses you could follow me also. So students, I hope you liked this course. And you can follow all the steps for every type of Portrait drawing. And that's all I finish this work. And it looks great. I would say, though, shade Face shading is really good. And you can follow all the steps. You can. Also, I would say that please share your work in class project section. Thank you.
