Transcripts
1. Introduction: Hello, and welcome
to the course. My name is Richard Anderson, and I am your award
winning instructor. In this course, we'll be
exploring podcasting. We'll dive into the world of why you should start a podcast, how to write a script, how to record a podcast, hosting and distributions,
and using AI arts. With awards in F 100 companies and experience in
Fortune 500 companies, as well as my experience having my own breakfast show formally
on a national station, and distributing and creating
podcast all over the world. I'm sure that I can help you. Let's begin your
podcasting journey.
2. The Benefits of Starting a Podcast: So there are some very
unique benefits when it comes to starting
your own podcast, and we'll explore some
of those just now. So one of the first
things which is really, really great about
podcasting is the fact it gives you the opportunity
to share your passions, to share your expertise, and also your unique perspective
with a global audience. This is very, very rare. There's not many opportunities
that you can actually have to share your passions and your experiences and expertise, and just be able
to say it as it is pretty much uncensored
through this medium. And you know, you can put
things in certain places, but with a podcast, The listener is
having their focus and attention 100% on you. And that, for me, is a very, very phenomenal and rare opportunity that you're given when it comes to podcasting. The second thing is
it allows you to reach this really
global audience. So you're talking about people
from all over the world. So once I released my podcast, I look at the stats, and you can see
people coming from all walks of life
all over the world, and that is a phenomenal feeling just to know that
that's happening too. I would also stress that podcast listenership is on the increase, particularly since 2020, podcast listenership has been increasing every single year. So it's definitely a medium to watch for as it becomes more and more integrated into society and into our
daily lives, too. The third thing is that
it allows you to have these really deep and
meaningful conversations. Podcast is a very
rare opportunity. Unlike a lot of other mediums, podcast is all about those really insightful
conversations that you have between yourself
or someone else and, you know, the other
person, or whether it's yourself and
also the guest, or even just talking
to your audience. It allows them to
connect with you in a much deeper and
more intimate way. And again, that's
something that really podcasts really offer when
it comes to podcasting. Another great point here
is that it allows you to create and express yourself
in a really meaningful way. So what I mean by that
is that, you know, when you're creating
this podcast, you're creating it from
the ground up presumably. And once you're coming
out with these ideas, you're really allowing
yourself that creative outlet. Even if you're in
a work situation, it's one of the real
opportunities that you are guaranteed to be able to create something in
a workplace setting. I myself, when I've
been helping and facilitating with podcast
or even doing them myself, One of the things
that I've really, really loved is the simple
fact that you get to create and showcase your
creative abilities in the form of a podcast, whether it includes
video or even if it is just audio
specifically. Again, it's really up to you how this podcast is consumed, and it's your choice to
begin with, as well. Finally, it also gives
you the ability to establish yourself as an
authority in your field. So if you have a podcast out, you're able to interview
guests from all walks of life. And that's an
amazing opportunity. Being able to talk to people who have significant presence, that in itself helps to showcase your own
talents and skills, and abilities and sort of puts you in a
stage, if you will. It's a little bit like a new
form of public speaking. And that in itself is a really, really wonderful opportunity
that podcasting presents.
3. Using ChatGPT AI to Write Scripts: You can also look at using
services like Chat GPT and other AI services in order to help you write
your podcast scripts. And you can actually
turbocharge your podcasting, whether it's in a
corporate setting or personal or otherwise. This is a really
great opportunity in order for you to help
align your podcast the way that you want to come up
with some great ideas and really just help with the overall content
creation process. Right. So first of
all, you'll need to log into C chat GPT, and you can do that by
looking for chat GPT, which would be the website, which is chat dot open a.com. That's chat open a.com
as indicated here. Follow the options along, which will take you
through to chat GPT, which is a service itself. From there, all you'll
need to do is actually go along you'll see
the general layout, of course, being new chat. This new chat option allows
you to insert a message. So it's effectively a chat bot. So you're really
talking with Chat GPT. It's a conversation, and what you're looking
to do is just have this conversation with Chat GPT and tell it exactly
what you want. Now, when it comes
to generative AI, what you don't want to do is provide very really
generic information. You want to provide as
much accurate information as possible in the text. So what I'll do here is I'll actually be creating a
hypothetical podcast right now, which will be based on talking points for a
corporate telephone call. So the podcast is
going to be all about corporate telephone calls. And I really want
some talking points. So I need to write my script. So what you'll do is, in this case, I've prepared
one earlier as you see. What you'll do is you'll
take your little prompt, as it's called, which is basically the
instructions for AI. So giving Chachi PT the
instructions that you want. And in this case, I'm
writing that down here, so write talking points
for a podcast about. For a podcast about
corporate telephone calls. So I know that my podcast is going to be all about
corporate telephone calls, and I really want Chat GPT or AI to give me the
foundations for it, so I can build on it from there. So what I'll do is
I'll put that through. And then effectively, all I'll do is I'll click Send Message. That immediately sends a
message over to Chat GPT. And as you can
see, that M is me. And what it's done is
it's taken my message, which is writ talking points for a podcast about corporate
telephone calls. And what it's done
now is it's actually loaded these all
here beautifully. So it's given me in real time, it's given me the answer
that I was looking for. So that's a wonderful
thing about Chat GPT. It gives you answers the answer
that you're looking for. If you wrote this again
and even reworded it, it would include
different answers. It would be different
every time, and it would always
be very, very unique. So that's something
also to note down too. So as you can see here, what it said is as my talking point. So welcome in a brief
overview of the episode, so this podcast episode
that we're creating. It reminds me to have
a discussion about the ubiquitous nature of
podcast telephone calls, and perhaps to also
highlight the importance of effective communication
in the business world. And then it goes
on and so forth, the role of telephone
etiquette in business, and it goes on to
say solutions for improving corporate telephone
calls and communication, which I could talk about
at that point too. And the list goes
on a full list. And then it reminds also to give a recap of key
takeaways and also inviting listeners to share
their experiences and thoughts on corporate
telephone calls as well. So it even reminds you to thank the
audience for tuning in and provide information
about the next episode. So from this, you could get
your general podcast script. So you'd come up with your idea. You'd need to know
what it was that you were looking to create
a podcast about. So perhaps area of expertise within your
area of business, if it's at work or just something that you're
generally interested in, if it's in your
personal life too. Then from there,
that will give you the basic layout
of your podcast. The next thing you could do is, if you wanted to expand
on that a bit more, you could ask it to include something like a funny anecdote. So I've put that through there, so I'm telling you
include funny anecdotes, and I'm going to press send And as we do
that, once again, in real time, it's now
rewriting this whole thing, but it's including
funny anecdotes. So I might want to add a
funny anecdote, you know, introduce people
into the podcast, but I want to add some
funny anecdotes, too. So it's actually saying
in this version, so share a lighthearted
anecdote about a memorable corporate
telephone call mishap. So at that point, I
might start talking about a call that I
took And on that call, it was really hilarious
call because you know, I hung up the phone
accidentally on the customer. The customer called back, had
a bit of a laugh about it. And it helps build that
rapport with a funny anecdote. So that's something that I
found important to include, so I've included
it in the script. If you note from
the previous one, so if I go back
to the 0.1 there, It's very corporate,
and it just says, discuss the ubiquitous nature of corporate telephone calls. Whereas when I've asked to
include the funny anecdote, it's done that here,
and put that here, too, and it's also said
emphasize the humorous side of navigating the corporate
telephone landscape. So as you can see, it's
a lot more lighthearted. So that for me is a really,
really beautiful thing. I could then ask it to
write a description. But that's something we're
going to do a bit later on because you're not only going
to want the podcast itself, you know, have this really,
really wonderful scripts, but you'll also want a description
for this podcast, too. But that's something we're
going to touch on a bit later. The main thing you'll need to focus on today is just knowing that you can create
this wonderful scripts, and you could include
as much detail as you want and even take out as
much detail as you want. Also take it to places that it's never been before in
terms of podcast, because now AI is powering you as you go through your
podcasting journey. We'll be back in
the next section.
4. How to Record a Podcast in Audacity: So the next step to
get your podcast off the ground today is to
go along to audacity. So you'll need some
recording editing software. You have loads of
options ranging from Adobe Adobe audition, which is one of my
favorites, I have to say. You have a variety of options. But my favorite because it's
free and it's open source, and I would recommend, simply because it's
free is audacity. It does most of the
things that most of the other platforms
can do in any case. Most of the other
software can do. All right, so that takes
us over to what you would need to search
using your search engine, whichever one you're
using at the time. So put in Audacity team, which will load up to
audacity team.org, which is the website that you'll need to visit in order to download this free software.
Click along to it. Once you get in, you'll need to download the appropriate
version for you. So in this case, it's auto prompted here,
download Audacity. And again, just go along with
whatever suits your needs. In this instance, you would
really only need this one. Once you have got that, it
will download the software, and it will take you to
this little shortcut icon, which you can actually open up, which will then open
as such as this. And this is the interface. So what you're looking at here is the general tape layout. So if you think of a
general recording device, this is what it will look like. So you have your pause,
your play, stop, skip to the beginning, or skip to the
start, if you like, skip to the end, record. And those are the main things
that you'll need to know. You'll need to if you have
connected a microphone, I would always recommend a real a very good
microphone in my case. I'm using the Blue Yeti, which is a microphone
I highly recommend. It's actually the one I'm
currently using right now. And, of course, just connect your bluetooth or whatever it is that you're
using to record, and just ensure
that it's plugged in by USB or whatever it is, and then hit record. And of course, the main thing you'll need to remember as well, is this counter at
the bottom here. So this is telling you how long your recording has
actually been running, and, of course, any selections. But the main things
you'll need to know is just about this
timer down here and also about stop starting
and playing and skip into the end and skip
into the beg beginning here, and also checking
your audio setup to see whether
you've actually got your recording
device connected if you were recording
directly via a microphone, such as I am today. So once you've got
all that started, and you're ready
to go, all you'll need to do is hit record. So in this case, I'm
going to record a sample. This is a test for my podcast. It is an absolutely
amazing podcast, which I'd like to
welcome you to today. Sign up and join this fantastic
podcast. See you online. So as you can see here, I recorded my voice over, if you will, for this podcast. And as you'll notice
here, the lines, these lines represent sound, as you may have noticed, as I was speaking the
sound was moving. And what you can do
from here is you can actually select part of it, because we'll need to
clean this audio up. So immediately, I would
go to effect up here. To noise removal, and then
I'll click noise reduction. So I can see that
that's silence, so I'm going to ask it to
get that noise profile. And then what I'll do is
I'll click the entire thing, and if you watch what happens to the lines
here in the middle, after I've pressed this as I'll go straight back to effect, I'll once again go
to noise reduction, and then I'll click, and if
you keep an eye on the audio, you'll notice that
it slightly reduces. So it was very, very
subtle, very, very slight. And what it was doing here was it was taking the room tone and just applying that
to the entire audio, so that the audio
sounds a lot cleaner. So when I play it, it
sounds really clean. So now I've got this podcast, and I'm quite happy with it. All I'll do from there is
I will export the audio. And I'll call it My podcast. Export audio is
another word for save. And then all I'll do from there is I'll check
where it's going to. So in this case, I want
it to go to the desktop. It may preset two wave, but I will always
recommend it as MP three. The reason for that
is that MP three, the difference wave is the
more superior quality, but the difference isn't really neg severely negligible
to the human ear, so you wouldn't really
notice any difference. So I always go for MP three because the file is
actually smaller, so it will take up less
space on your computer, so that your computer is
freed up to do other things. So it's a little bit more productive when it
comes to editing. So, all I will do is
I will click there, and then from there,
I will click Export. And then from there, it's got my podcast, which is the one that
I've called it there. And then from
there, all I'll do, now that I've got my audio, and I'm quite happy with it, I'll want to upload that audio. So I'll need to find somewhere
to distribute my podcast. I've got the audio. I'll
need to distribute it, and we'll find out more
in the next section.
5. Hosting and Distribution: So, now you've got your podcast, and it looks like
it's all ready to go. Now it's over to the next step when it comes to podcasting, and that is distribution. So you need to find
somewhere to actually host, as in take the files on and
then distribute it somewhere. So what you'll need to do
is you'll need to find somewhere for that all
in one solution ideally. And I would always
highly recommend finding one that if it's
possible to find it for free. Otherwise, or are a
different pricing solutions. So one that you could
go to is Pod bean. Again, you'd need to look at the pricing solutions
if it's appropriate for you on a personal level
or professional level that would be entirely
up to yourself. You can see the plans
vary from free, which is a podcast starter. Again, looking at the amount of storage space,
which is available. And then, of course, you've got, it goes all the way up up
until these amounts here, and you can see whether that's appropriate for your needs
and what you need to do. In most cases, I would always recommend the free
alternative here, but again, it's up to you, so
that would be via Pod bean. If you did want to, and you wanted to try
something a bit different. Again, you could always look
at Buzz Sprouts as well. You can always get
started for free and see which and if any of these
are appropriate for you. Remember that you
get up to 2 hours a month for this as well, and these episodes are
hosted for 90 days, so limited to 2
hours each month. And again, those
are some details that you need to bear
in mind as well. And just look for
what's more appropriate and fitting for
your needs as well. So also Buzz sprout. And finally, that
would also take us over to Spotify for podcasters, which is formally Anchor. And what I like about
Anchor is that it's free, and you can use it in
a corporate setting, personal setting, and it's
simply an all in one. So it's all for free,
and it's quite known. If you think about
how much listenership Spotify in itself has, you'll see the reach
is significant when you do publish any
one of these podcasts. So to get started, all you need to do
is actually sign in to Spotify if you
already have an account, and then you can just
sign up from there. Otherwise, all you'll need
to do is pre sign up. And then I'll ask you
what you want to do. So in this case, I want to start a podcast because
that's what we'll be doing. And then of course,
in this instance, I already have one,
but of course, you'd follow the
setup options along. And then, of course, I would just press continue to the app. And then from there, of course, you agree to the terms and
conditions as you would do, and if you'd like
to receive e mails, then you can tick that, and
if not, just press save. And then from there,
it prompts you to once you have gone
through all the options, it brings you to this page here. So you press Let's do it. It will then ask you
to upload your file. So if you have
one, in this case, we've already done
our one from earlier, which was my podcast. Now uploading that there so
that they can host the files. And then from there, I'll
need to give it a title, and our podcast is all about
corporate telephone calls. There we are. And now I'll
need to do a description. So this is something we
touched on a bit earlier. And as you'll see, this
episode description here could take a
while to write. So you also want it to have as many keywords in
there as possible. So what I would
recommend doing in this instance is
actually just creating this wonderful bit of
script here using Chat GPT. So we'd be going
back to Chat GPT, and all we do from
there is insert that. So in this case, I've written right a
podcast description, an 18-year-old would like based on corporate
telephone calls, do not include the word teen. So I need to be exactly
specifically clear, and all I'll do is
I'll press send a message, as we did previously. And then AI will
get to work there, so Cat GPT will get to work. And as you can see here, it's written that description for us, thus saving us a lot of time, making us a bit more
productive when it comes to this podcast description. So there we go. So it's
given us that description. I'm going to copy and paste it. There's the description,
as you'll see here. It's even given us the
title for it as well. Dial up days and navigating the hilarious world of office phones, which
is quite great. And, you know, I could
always change the name if I felt so fit as well. And then I will insert that in. Of course, you'll
need to check it, because remember that not
all information provided by Tat GBT is actually
correct for a star, and some of it can be harmful, so that's very
important to note too. If you didn't want those OGs, of course, just delete them, I would always double check
and read through to see if it's exactly what you're
looking for and the tone. I chose for a ten
description simply because For a teen, it will keep
it more fun and dynamic. Without that, it
would come across as quite cold and just
a bit callous. But for a podcast, you'd want it to be something that
can resonate with people. So I've deliberately
chose to put that in. You may decide to
leave that out. Of course, it would be
at your own discretion. So I will leave this as is just for the purpose
of the example, and I've put in my
spaces as well, just to ensure that
it reads right. And then it's asking me, when would I like
to publish this. In this instance, I'll say now. Does it include
explicit content? No, it doesn't. And if there's anything additional that
you wanted to enter, then you can put that in there. It's not exactly necessary. If you did want to
add some cover arts, we'll be doing it in the
next section just now. And for now, I'll press next. It then asks about interaction. And I think this is a
really, really great tool. So what you can do is you
can actually add in a Q&A. And again, that's something
that you can also ask Chat GPT to do for you. So in this instance, what I've done is,
I've asked Chat GPT, I've already done a preset
here for it to include a poll based on the
above two questions. So based on the above. So what it will do is
it will do that for me based on the information
it has pulled through. So write a poll based on the
above with two questions. Now, if we go back to this, we can see the Q&A, which
is Option all says, what did you think
about this episode? And this question was
automatically added. But of course, you can also
add your own to this as well. So what I'll do is
I'll edit this. So rather than what do you
think about this episode, I will put in my own poll, which I'll do here and
I'll press send message. And there we are So
it's offered two here, which is, what's your go
to funny office story? I think that's a great question, so I'll copy that text. I'll go back to here. I'll paste it in.
I'll press save. And then it's going to ask
me for the two questions. And here we are. It's
giving me two here. There we are. And at the time I accidentally left an embarrassing
voicemail for my boss. And yet, I think we've
all done that at least once. There we are. So off's Yep. Oh, and also, bear in mind, there's a
character poll as well. So let me just ask it
to reduce that a bit. Oh, just put the
question up here. What's leaving I'll just reword at a funny voicemail. And also, let's say, looking at the
examples it's given. I'll even put my
remote work mishaps. Again, looking at that there. And we'll leave it
as that. And then we'll ask it to create the poll. There we go. So again, all of these are
completely optional, so you can just put
that down here, and it might even
have a third option, so you might decide to
add another option, which is none of the above. And then save that.
There we are. And then that gives your
listeners a chance to engage directly
with your podcast, which I think is an amazing
and phenomenal opportunity. So it takes it from
just being very passive in terms of
listenership to people now and your listeners
and people who support your podcast being able to engage with the podcast as well. From there, I'd click next. And then what it does
from here is ask me, am I happy to publish it? So that's the first step here.
I'll need to publish it. From there, it will guide
me to another section. But once I'm happy, all I'll do is,
I'll press publish. I'll just pick publish here. And then it asks me, what do
I want to call this podcast, and I will call it
the telephone show. I will insert my description. And then once I've
inserted my description, which I'll just grab that and
then put that through here. I'll leave it as it
is for the purpose of the example, who's the author. I've put myself, and
I'll call this careers, and what languages in? In this instance,
it's in English. So I'll just pre
prompt it to English. And then of course, from
there, I'll press continue. Next, I'll need to
upload my image, and we'll be exploring how
you can do that using AI.
6. AI Image Creator for Podcasts: So next in your
podcasting journey, you'll need to create
a cover image. So specifically, if we go
back to our cover image here, it's asking us about
uploading an image. So that's something
we can do through our generative AI capabilities. So what we'll do is we'll go
along to Bing image creator, so that's something
you can do here just by Googling Bing image creator. Again, just sign up to it
and log in your details. So follow the options along if you already have a
Microsoft account, it will get you straight
through to that as well. But again, just sign up to it, so Microsoft being
as you'll notice. And what you'll
want to do and what the beauty of this is
is it will help you to create images for
your podcast or any other thing that you might
actually need images for, which is absolutely great, and it will always be
an original image. They might be similar
to another one, but it will not be the same, and that is the beauty of this generative AI when
it comes to image work. So all you'll need
to do from there, and we've got this
beautiful podcast show, which we want to do. We now want to add
an image to it. So all we do from here is
we'd ask AI in this instance, which is our image creator. To create an image
Four. There we go. Just amend that there for a
corporate telephone podcast. So we know that we've got
this podcast. It runs. It's talking about
corporate telephone calls, and I want to create this
cover for our podcast here. So as you can see here,
it's asking for this image, so we wanted to create one. So all you do is you'll
click Create Create there. And what it's doing is it's now creating that, and there we are. So it's based on the parameters
which have given it, which is create an image for
corporate telephone podcast. What it will do now
is it's loading, as you can see here, your
image is being created by AI. And then as it loads, it gives me a list
of these options. And so it's created that
based on my question. I could always ask it to
include a person laughing. I want it to include a bit more, so I needed to give me
exactly what I'm looking for. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to press
create once again. It's just giving us
some suggestions, as you can see
here, it's loading, so it's just going through
its loading process, and there we are. So it's now including a
person laughing as the image. So I would go for
any one of these that was quite comfortable
with and quite happy with. I'm going to go for
these two here. They seem quite happy, and all audios I'll press
download from there. And now it's
downloaded that image. I will go immediately
back to Spotify. I will upload an image, and then I'll go to downloads because this was
the last one here. I'll double click that.
And as you can see here, it's actually put the image
in that so two people. It's an original image, and it looks like a great
podcast cover, as well. So if from there,
I'll press continue. From there, it loads
onto Spotify service. And of course, you
can always crop your photos if you wanted
it to crop in or out, you could easily do that, too. From there, it asks if I
would like to publish it, so you can distribute your podcast to more
platforms in the next steps. So again, they've hosted it. So now it's time
for distribution, so I'll publish first of all, and it will be available
on Spotify shortly. It will let you do as
soon as it's ready, and I'll press continue
there. And there you are. And of co from there, It actually gives you options of places where you can
distribute it to, which I think is
absolutely phenomenal. So that's how you
get it published. And of course, once
you are further along, you can look at the
analytics of it as well. So of course, in this instance, because I've just set it
up, it doesn't have any. But of course, you will give you the option to see the amount
of plays which you've got. You'll be able to see
so much information in order to help you grow
your audience as well. And that is exactly how you use AI in order to
create your image, and of course,
distribute your podcast using Spotify formally Anchor. A
7. Congratulations: Congratulations, you've
reached the end of the course. You'll now know how to
start your podcast, write a script using AI. You'll also know how to record a podcast, host and distribute, and of course, use
AI art in order to create an image for
your podcast cover. All the best on your
podcasting journey.
