1. Introduction - Contrary Motion : Hey guys, I'm excited to
introduce you to my new course, which is all about
contrary motion. I'm going to explain to you
what country motion is. Also different exercises using a contrary motion style of play. I'm looking forward to exploring this exercise with you and also adding more exercises to
your arsenal of play. Okay, so by the end
of this course, you should read to understand the different country
motion skills that I'm going to show you and be able to play exercise confidently. Various tempos. Okay, I will also be adding
a backing track to meet these exercises is much more interesting when
you're playing them. So what are you waiting for? I'm looking forward
to having you on this course and I
will see you all.
2. Contrary Motion Explained: So what is contrary motion? Contrary motion is when we play the same scale,
but going in.
4. Contrary Motion - A minor Breakdown: In this lesson, we're
going to look at the a minor contrary motion. I'll demonstrate
this to you first, then I'll break it down
to you afterwards. So it goes like this. In the right hand, the finger
pattern goes like this. It goes 123. We
get to that free. We pulled out from
underneath like this. Then 1234, firm goes
underneath again. 123 from underneath
again, then 12345. So whilst the right
hand is going up, the left hand will be
going down like this. It's the same thing Japan, after the free to farm 1234 from underneath 123,
underneath 1,234.5. So the basically doing
the exact same thing. So when we change with the
farm in the right hand, we changed with the font and
the left-hand, so it's one. So we put both for firms on the same note,
which is the a. So it's together
at the same time. And make sure you pay the
notes at the same time frame. Under together 1234,
under together, 123 under together 12345. I would like us to
now do this with the metronome at 90 BPM. So it's a bit faster than
what I just played just now. But let's have a go at this. After fall 12341, more time after 41234. And that's how we ended
up going back or forward. We are now going to look at
going the other direction. So we ended here in both hands. So now going back all the
five fingers over now, free to one over
with the forefinger, 4321, then first finger
over three to one. Let's do that one more time. So it's 54321 over with the Fed, over the fourth, over with
deferred finally, Dan. So we're now going to do just this part with the metronome. Off the fall 12341 more time. 1234. We are now going to go up and then down with
the contrary motion. So after 4123, go backwards. More time. 123, go. And there we have it, guys. So that is it for our very
first contrary motion. I will see you for our next one.
5. Contrary Motion- D minor Breakdown: We are now looking at
the contrary motion in a D minor scale. So for the D minor scale is all the white notes
apart from B, which has now been
threatened to B-flat. So all the white notes, apart from this black line
here, which is B-flat. I'll demonstrate this to you
now before I break it down. So it goes like this. The finger pan is exactly
the same as a minor. So it's 123. I'll
play it for you. 1231234. And then with the farm
123 on the farm, 12345? Yeah. Everything is exactly
the same with the fingers to only differences is
that we're starting on D. And we've included
one black node, which is the B flat black node, and the left hand
will be like this. We go from that D, B-flat,
which is our third one, and up 1234 or five things. I'm not going to play,
right? No metronome and I would like
you to draw me in both hands once you can do the right-hand and the
left-hand separately. Alright, so after 41234. Alright, let's do that
with a metronome now. After 412341 time 123, go. So going backwards, it's the same notes in
the same fingers. So it's 12345. Such finger over free
to one full finger over fat finger over
the weekend on the D. Let's do that one more time. 54321/3 to one third over. So we're now going
to do this with the metronome off the 4123. Go. Now, I would like us to put it all
together. After 4123. Go backwards. What time? So that is it for contrary
motion in D minor. So our next one's
going to be E minor.
6. Contrary Motion E minor Breakdown: We are now onto our E
minor contrary motion. So for the E minor, all the white notes apart
from this black node here, which is called F sharp. Alright, so all the white notes, all the same fingering. But we now have this black node instead of this black NOR. Alright, so now we have F sharp, B flat, which was in the
D minor country motion. So then play this for you. See you an idea of how it goes. So it goes like this. After 41234. That's what I hope you will
achieve at the end of this. So I'm not going
to break this down to you. It goes like this. 123 go under 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. In your right hand or left hand, it will go like this. 123.1, 234 under one to free under 1,234.5. Once you've got them too good, then join me for this part. So now let's put
both hands together. So 123 under 1234, under one to free under 1,234.5, right? So let's do this now
with the metronome. After 412341, more time, 1234. Now going backwards,
it goes like this. Over. We end like that. So
let's now do this with the metronome. Off the fall. 123, go. One more time. 123, go. So we are now going to put
it altogether after 4123. Go backwards. Let's do that one more time. 123, go. I hope you were able
to play the a minor, D minor and E minor contrary
motion in both hands. And I will see you for the
next exercise. See you soon.
8. A Chromatic Breakdown: The contrary motion using
the chromatic scale. And we're starting on a for
our very first exercise, I'm going to
demonstrate this to you first before I break
it down to you. So it goes like this. I'm going to show you the right-hand first,
left-hand afterwards. So it's a quick breakdown
of the chromatic scale. I've mentioned this
before my other course, but the chromatic scale is
just every single notes. So we're going from a to a
propene, every single note. Going up to today, I'm going to show you the
fingering of one octave because the secularist
same in the next octave. So if you're able to
play in one Octavia, able to play over to octaves
because the same fingering, a few things to note about
the chromatic scale is that the third finger will
always hit the black node, and that's for left
hand and right hand. I'm going to break
this down to you. So the firm will go on a
certain Graham B-flat under, and it goes to the B with
a firm second finger and third finger on D flat. On D. Third finger, and
the E-flat go under. And from an E, F, G flat, G, a flat under. Hey, let me stop there and just repeats the same pattern as we've got to the next octave. So do that free one more time. Whenever you play the black
notes with your third finger, you always go under with the firm some place
for you one more time. So it goes like this. You can draw me if
you want, from an, a third from ground beef
that go under the firm. Second finger. First finger. First thing go 1-3 and then we end. The one that was safe. And in the left hand is a boost. The Fed finger go under again. Third finger under one. Free, under, under 123, then from right there. So work on that first
right hand, left hand. Then Jeremy for this part here. So we're just gonna do
it over one-off teeth. Okay, So it goes
like this together. A-flat, B-flat to give up
GMB thing ever be flat, G flat and C. F and D flat. E and D. E-flat together in
both, in both hands. D and E. D flat and F, G flat and C.
B and G. B flat and a flat. And a, and, and it just
repeats the same thing again. Let's do this one
more time together. 1 234-131-3123. We end on that. So I'm not going to play this
with the metronome. 90 ppm. One octave, 1234, more time, 123, go. Free, fall. So just be mindful when we're
going back this direction. It's exactly the same notes
in both hands. Alright. So let's just take, just
going back to that now click off the 41234. So we are now going
to do this with the metronome at 90 ppm. Off the fall, 12343, back to that again, 123, go 123 and back. Free fall. Only due to obtain once you're comfortable doing
one of teeth. Okay. So after 41234 backwards, one more time, 1234. And that is how he played
the chromatic scale on a, using a country
motion technique. For the next exercise, we're going to be starting on
D for the chromatic scale. So I will see you soon.
9. D Chromatic Breakdown: We are now going to do
the chromatic scale, starting on the note
D. And I'm going to play it for you quickly
before we do the breakdown. So it goes like this. I stopped there.
We're going to do over to octane by this 2/1. Because once you
know, one uptake, talk pays will be fine because the same thing being
repeated twice. So in our right hand,
it goes like this. From to the E-flat, go under. So it's the same
thing as before. We go under the third finger, go under. Lechner, go under. And over the phone. She frayed and we
end with the farm. And going back causes the
first finger on D flat, C, B. I think when B-flat a over a snap to the G, D-flat, G-flat. Go down to the F, to the E, D flat, E flat, D. In our left hand, it goes like this. Go to the D-flat, under one, B-flat,
E-flat, A-flat. It switched my fingers, my ending at D right
there and then go back surfing, go over them. We end there. So work on
your hands separately. Like I said in the
last exercise, get the right-hand
notes correct, and the left-hand
node is correct. Then put it together. So let's play this
now going forward and backwards with the
metronome 90 BPM. 123. From what time to free go. All right, so let's now, so
now let's try and do over. So now let's do it over
to uptake based off the floor, 123, go to three and we stop there. So that is how we play
the chromatic scale on D going forward and backwards. So I will see you for
our next exercise, which will be the
chromatic scale, starting on the note E.
Alright, so I'll see you soon.
10. E Chromatic Breakdown: We're on to our final one, which is the chromatic
on the E. I'll demonstrate this to
you first and I'll break it down for
you afterwards. So after 41234. And there you have it. So in our right hand, how we play is like this. It goes 1232 under
Sensing, go under finger. 123, go under financing, go under them backwards, fessing up to the farm scene, go to one. And there we have it. That's how you play
in the right hand. So what can that
for me then once you've got that in dry me
for the left-hand part. So left hand will go like this. From assessing got under, under 13, under, under, under. And on the second thing, backup from the Fed, no black note over 321. Free. And on the one. That's how you play
in the left hand. Once you are able to play
the right hand and left hand and put it all
together like this. So the ESP together from an E, E flat and F together, D and E flat, D flat and G, E and F, A-flat, B and a. B flat and B flat. A and B. A plan, C, G and D flat, D and E flat, F and E flat. E. And the second thing
would be an E in left hand, and your thumb will be
on E and the right hand. Then go backwards. E flat, F, G flat, G and D flat, a flat and C, a and B. B flat. B, C and a flat, D flat, and G, D and F sharp. And F and E, just like that. So now let's do that
with the metronome. Just one motif, 123, go 2341 more time just going in one direction. 123, go. Dan, going backwards
of the 4123, go. Let's put this all
together. We're going to go out and back in again right after 41234. That's how powerful
one-up tastes. Let's now extend
list to optimize. After fall 123, go backwards to free fall. So that's it guys. We've done the a, the D, and E chromatic scale using the contrary
motion technique. Hope you are now able to play the chromatic scale using a
contrary motion technique. And if you're still finding
this a bit challenging, work on your hand separately, and also slow down
the tempo as well. And that will really help you
to master this technique. So I will see you for our
next country motion exercise.
12. Contrary Motion in 3rds : We're now going to look at a
country motion with thirds. So it goes like this, going forward and backwards. And as before, because
it repeats itself, I'm going to do the
whole two octaves. So I'm definitely one more time. And that is it. So it goes
like this, a skip down. Skip down. To me. Like that. One more time. Skip down, skip down, skip down, and keep
repeating that same pattern. Then we end with the firm. So going backwards
is a skip two notes, skip up, skip down
to skip up one. Same way, way down. Then we input a lysate. That's how it goes
in the right hand or left hand. It goes like this. Skip D, C, D. We stop and think going backwards
is gonna be this. To the B, to the J, C to D to C. We end on a like that. So again, work on
your right hand, the left hand, them,
bring them together. And then F and C, B and G, E and D, F and C, D and E, E and D. C and F. E and D.
E and D, sorry. F and C, same pattern. Me end on. Going backwards is like this. Alright guys, so now
let's put it all together without stopping
this time of the fall. 123, go. Alright, so what
shapes do that in both hands over one octave, then dreamy now for
the toothpaste, the full length after 4123 go. Another thing I
forgot to mention is that we only use our thumb and our third finger for this whole exercise
in both your hands. Alright, so I'm going to
see for our next exercise, which is the force.
13. Contrary Motion in 4ths: Well done guys, We're on to our final exercise for
the country motion. We are now looking at
the force and we're only going to do this
over one octave. So it goes like this. The fingers that we're using are the thumb and forefinger. Alright, so it's pretty
straightforward. In our right hand,
it goes like this. A, skip two notes. The d be skipped two notes. The E, C skipped two
notes to the F. D, skip two notes to the G, E Skip to notes to the a. F, skip two notes to the B key, skip two notes to the C, skipped two notes to
the D or the M&A. Alright, but going backwards, it'll be a skip two
to d, then go down. Skipped two to C, to F. To be the same way
when we go down. And on that left-hand G to D. Let's skip to see. Skipping down to you now. Yeah, then backwards
is a to the e, f. And so skipping free, Let's get down to skip up free. We end there. Let's play in both hands. So
notice what that will match. After a will be END. Then G and B END than c and
f. C and f, then d and e, Then G and B. E and D again, E, D, a, and then F and C, then a and B, then G and B again. F and C, then right near the
nose that match up and down. In this exercise.
Let's do that again. 1234. Join me for this one. Alright, so going backwards
is the ANA again, E and D. Let me go
back on the same note. So I will now play this
with the metronome, go forward and backwards. And we're only doing one,
not pay for this exercise. Off the fall, 12341 more time. 123, go. Well done and completed courses. You've gotten this far and
take your time with this one, I will suggest that
you play different tempo speeds to
challenge yourself, if you find the speed I'm
paying right now too fast, slow down and build
up that speed. Or if the speed is
actually okay for you, then Trump push yourself
and go a bit faster. Well done everyone and I will
see for the next course.
14. Outro: I want to thank every one
of you that have joined this course has been
amazing teaching you. And I hope you've gained
something from this course. I hope you've been able to play these exercises and also just remember if you're finding any
of the exercises too fast, take your time, slow down, and pay your own pace, then try and join in with
me at the speeds exercises. So look out for the
next exercise series that I'll be printing
out real soon. All right, I'll see you soon.
