Hi, fellow students in this class I will be showing you how to play all the natural minor scales on the piano and the theory behind it to help all students understand. This is the first of a three-part course that will explore the following minor scales 

1. Natural Minor Scale

2. Harmonic Minor Scale

3. Melodic Minor Scale

  • By the end of this class, you will learn the following:

    1. How to play the natural minor scale with the circle of fifths 

    2. All the minor scales on the white and black notes

    3. Know how to play the scales on the Left, Right, and both hands together

1. Intro - Minor Scales: Playing the piano to be challenging, especially with audio distractions in life, work, family, education. But have you always had that burning desire to learn? You may have started the lessons when you were the kid. But I didn't finish to a point that you felt confident to play by yourself or play for others. Or maybe overtime the excuses of powder on as to why you can't learn now, I'm too old, I'm too busy. It's too late. However, this does not have to be the case. Hi, my name is Eric, and I'm upcountry to play skillfully as a piano educator and musician, I aim to help all my students learn the piano and simplified way that they can understand and grasp would also help with all my shoes to achieve their goals at their own pace, but also with confidence that they know what they're doing after they finished the lessons. Hey guys, welcome to the second part of the code And Scales Series. In this series, we're looking at the minor scales. So there are free minor scales. We're going to look at the Natural minor, the harmonic Minor, and the melodic minor. And we will also explore the minor chords as well. Or is this one's gonna be exciting? Going to be a long one, but it's gonna be exciting and I'm sure you will learn something new. So I hope to see all of you in this course. Alright, see you soon. 2. Minor Scales Explanation: So we're now looking at the next part, which is the minor scales. So the minor scales, we're still going to be using that circle of fifths and fourths. But now if you look at a diagram, we're going to start on a minor. A small m, small minus. Big M is major, smooth, m is minus, so something with a minor. Then we're gonna go to E minor chord. That's the fifth note within the a minor scale, right? So a, B, C, D, E, okay, the fifth now, alright, and the same way with their circle of force, we're going to look to the a minor and we're going to go back to the E minor. A minor scale differs a little bit from the major scale. The reason why we're number one, the sound is very different. So we say that the major scale is much more happy, much more hopeful sound and well, we described the minus on the sides. Depressing, scary, but it's still a very important skill that is used in everyday music, as you'll hear on the radio. And I can guarantee some of your favorite songs. I remind the case as well. Maybe. So there are three different ways that we can play the minor scale. There was the natural minor, there is the harmonic minor, and then there is the melodic minor, minor scales. But there are three different ways of playing them. And they all have their own unique sound. So I will be showing you these free minus skills in this course and the codes as well to stick around guys, so much I want to show you and I'm sure you're going to enjoy this one. I'm going to see all of you in the fray first lesson, which is the a minor scale and cooled 3. A Minor Natural Intro: So now looking at our Natural minus girls, and the first one we're looking at is a Minor. So a Minor is actually known as have relative to the C major scale. The reason why is because it shares all the same notes by instead of starting on C and ended on see, we're starting on a and ending on a. So all the white notes. So notes are going to be a, B, C, D, E, F, G, and then a at the end 4. Am (Natural) Right Hand: Natural Minor is actually the relative of the C major scale. The reason why is because it shares the same notes as the C major scale. So for the a minus girl, we use only the white notes similar to the C major scale. But now we're starting on a and finishing on a, rather than starting on C and finishing on C. So the fingers are exactly the same as the C major scale. So it's pretty straightforward if you already know the C major scale. So it goes like this. I play it for you first. So as I just mentioned, we're going from a to a two phase. Okay? So play with me nice and slow. So starting on a, so it goes same as before we go underneath the farm because she gets the full finger from underneath to the a. Then repeat the same pattern again. Go underneath the first finger, then it's all five fetus. And there we have it going forwards and backwards. The same thing go down five fingers, 54321, first finger over. 321 for finger over, for free. One such finger over free fan. Let's do this now for the metronome, going forward and then backwards. So we're not been played with the metronome going forward and backwards in the right hand off to 41234. Time one to free fall. Free fall. And that is how we play the a natural minor going forward and backwards in our Right Hand. Songs share how we do the same thing and I Left Hand 5. Am (Natural) Left Hand: So the left hand is exactly the same as the C major scale in the left hand. But we're going from a to a. So it's gonna be 54321. Go over with the third finger free to one over the full. 4321 over the third, free than one. Yeah. Can we go backwards? Is 123. Go under 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Just like that. Yes, exactly the same as C major. So we'll get straight into the swamp with the metronome. So Jeremy, once you're ready, 12342 and again, free and soul. And that's just how we play the a natural minor in our left-hand. So next up we're going do both hands 6. Am (Natural) Both Hands: So both hands together guys. Pretty simple, same as the C major scale, say fingering as well, was gonna go forward and backwards in our Right Hand and Left Hand together. As long as you come through my major course and you've looked at C major scale, you should be able to do this scale here, okay, so I'm not going to repeat myself in regards to the fingering and the changes because it is exactly the same as the C major scale. So I'm going to do is after four with no metronome first, then the metronome afterwards go forward and backwards. So 1234. Watch my fingers to do it again. So after 41234, there we have here. There's still one more time. 1234. I would like you to now join me with the metronome off to 41234. And that is how we play the a natural minor scale going forward and backwards in both hands. So our next minor scale is going to be a Minor harmony. 7. E Minor Natural Intro: Natural Minor Scale is a relative of G major scale, which means that only has one black node, which is the F sharp note found in the G major scale. So we're going to start on E and end on E. So notes for this scale are E, F-sharp, G, a, B, C, D, and E 8. Em (Natural) Right Hand: E minor now, so for the E Minor in a Right Hand, the fingering is exactly the same as the minor. So it's still 1, 2 3, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 4 and 5. I'll play it free first, then I'll break it down. So all we're doing is going from E to E, may include in the F sharp notes. Alright, so it goes like this. Play them with me. So it's 123. Go under 1234, go under the firm to the E. One. Cheap, free again, then go under one last time. 1,234.5. All right. Let's do that again. So it's 1231234 under widen to freight and lost time under 1,234.5. Yeah. Then we go backwards. So it's 54321 over with deferred free, the F sharp to want the full finger over 4321/1 more time, 32.1 on the E. Okay. So that backwards one more time. So that this 54321/3 to one over with the full 4321. Oh, one more time. Free to and we end on E on the one. And that's basically how you play the E natural minor scale. So now let's do this with a metronome off the fall, 12343 and again 234. And that's how you play in the right hand. So next is our Left Hand 9. Em (Natural) Left Hand: So in our Left Hand, fingering exactly the same as the a minor. So it's gonna be 54321. There we go over free to one, then for free to one, then free to one at the very end. Suddenly, let me play it for them backwards for you. Over, over, over that quiz. Go under, under. So just note that your forefinger waste play the F sharp note. Okay, so let's tie this together now. I'm nice and slow. So after 412-34-5432 1/3 to one over again. Last time. Yep. Then going backwards, 123, go 1231234 under free on the last time. That's basically it. Alright, so it's worth connect and join me with the metronome off to 4123423. And again, and that is it for the E Minor, Natural in the left-hand. So we unable to put both hands together next 10. Em (Natural) Both Hand: So an easy way to play both hands together is to just remember this, that the for finger will land on F sharp and Left Hand. And the second finger will learn an F sharp in the Right Hand. So let me demonstrate this T before we play together. So that this you watch my fingers. You'll notice that the second finger and the forefinger always match when the F sharp. There you have it. That's how we playing. So now would like you to try me as a plate nice and slow vet know metronome off the floor. 1234. So I hope you'll for finger in a Left Hand was hitting F sharp and your second thing goes hitting F sharp at the same time, up and down. Does he know you're playing it, correct or not as well? Because that can never indication. Alright, so now let's play with the metronome. If you've got hit, Join me now. If not, just keep working on playing scale forward and backwards until you're comfortable and confident with it. Alright, so let's put all together now. 123, go. What sine T free fall. So that is it. So have a guard this one, and then join me for the next Minor Scale. 11. B Minor Natural Intro: To be Minor Scale is a relative to D major. So she has all the same notes as before. So we have to black notes now, which are C-sharp and also F sharp, the notes for the scale, or B, C-sharp, D, E, F-sharp, G, a, and D 12. Bm (Natural) Right Hand: For the be Minor Natural scale, we are go from B2B, with C-Sharp and F-sharp being one black notes within this scale. Alright, so no more C and no more F on a page for you now going forward and backwards. One more time. And that is how we play the minor scale. So to play this scale, same fingering as before. It's the same one. To frame though, under, again, 1234, go under 123, go under 12345. So basically the same pattern. Alright, so I hope you're seeing the patterns now because once she familiarize yourself with the patterns, it becomes so much easier to play these scales once you know the notes in the DC one more time, going forward and backwards. So it's one freaking Germany if you want as well, go under 1234, go under the 123, under again, 1234, cut backwards 54321 over the first thing got free to one of with a fourth 4321 over free Chip and Dan, one. That's it. So now let's do this without me talking about no metronome as well. Some of the columns in 1234. Case. Hope you've watched it now. So now let's take the metronome off the fall 1234. And that is it. So what can that for me and then join me for the Left Hand afterwards? 13. Bm (Natural) Left Hand: Alright, so far left-hand, same fingering, same notes. Let's get straight into this. So I'm going to play forward and backwards for you first and explain whilst I'm playing as well. So it's gonna be like this. So it's five for saving. So in a Left Hand now the fingering is a little bit different. So in our Left Hand me stop for a full finger. So it goes like this for free to in our Left Hand. Now in the Left Hand is a little bit different to the right hand. We start with what for finger this time round. So it's not the same fingering as the a and E minor. So in the BMI now we start with a full finger like this. It goes for free to one, then free to want to back to the full finger for free to one, then 4321. So it's basically for Dennis free than this for four again. So do for you one more time. So it's 4321 over free to one. Then for 4321, then 4321. Just like that. Alright, so that's working. It's just going forwards first and foremost to play with me now with the metronome will take a time of this 1123, go for one more time. Surfing, golf. Thankful. Thankful for game. That makes sense to you. If not just continued to work on the scalp, just going forwards. So now gone backwards, it's 1234. The under 123. Go under again. 1234, under one more time. 123. Yeah. So your first finger will hit the C-sharp, your forefinger will hit the F sharp, and it repeats again, Fred finger. Then for finger on F-sharp, go back down. So now let's go backwards with the metronome 123. Go. And that's it. Alright, so we can get trained to this. Let's go forward and then backwards. Once you're comfortable, didn't draw me here. 123 go. And that's how he played the be Natural Minor in our Left Hand. So next up we're going to put both hands together. See you soon. 14. Bm (Natural) Both Hands: Now going to put both hands together for us. Let me help you out of this. So it goes like this. Secondly, third, fourth and second. The firm match. Firms Mac again. Forfend second on F-sharp. One more time. So from and for finger. Second and third sums on the E. Fulfilling Left Hand second in the Right Hand. Going froms, from second finger. Funds and the E forfend second. Then we end off just like that. Alright, so work on that. Let's do that with the metronome after 4123. So if that was just too fast, you can always slow down the metronome. Find one that's comfortable for you. Alright, so going backwards, farm and the two finger back. Second and four for gain. So just remember how you went forward. Now hope you up one more time. I do slower. Second and fourth. Sudden Second. Sex and the full for gain for the F sharp. A second on the C-sharp, then end on. Alright, so now we're going to go forward and backwards. Is that no metronome off the floor? 1234. And I hope you've able to keep up with me. Now let's do it with the metronome after 412343. And again, and that's how he played the be Natural Minor in Both Hands. Well done guys know c4. Next Minor Scale? 15. F# Minor Natural Intro: The F sharp minor scale is relative to the a major scale. The notes are F sharp, G sharp, a, B, C-sharp, D, E, and F sharp 16. F#m (Natural) Right Hand: We're now looking at the F sharp minor scale to one black notes we're going to play in this scale, apart from the F sharp is going to be G-sharp and C sharp. So there was no F, G and no see in this scale. So I'm going to play for you first and I'll break it down to you afterwards. So that is how we play this scale. So the fingering for this one goes like this. Who stopped for a second? So it's second to the Fed. Under, today says one to break or under a gain to the D, one to free, full, go under 123, then one. So now I know it might seem a little bit tricky, but watch again and just take your time with this one. So we start with our second finger. So it's 23, go under, then it's one. Freak or under again to D is 1234, go under one to fray under again, 12.3. So I hope you've got that. Just play that with the metronome off to 41234. Okay. That's how you play that both forwards. Not going backwards. It goes like this. So it's free to one over again. Free to want to for finger over 4321 than free to one, then free to buy that. One more time. Yeah, that's how we play it. Alright, so now let's do this with a metronome, go forward and backwards. Once you've done to write the metronome. So then it first, then draw me at this 0.1, 234. And again, that is how you play the F sharp minus girl in our Right Hand. So going do Left Hand next 17. F#m (Natural) Left Hand: So for the Left Hand, we start for, for finger on the F sharp. Alright, so it goes like this. For free, to 1/3 to one over again, 4321/3 to one and end on. So just take note of this that the forefinger always land on the F sharp. And the first thing you always land on the C-sharp, Let's do is together off the 41234/2. So going backwards now from the two because one to Frank or under 1234, then 123 under again, one free. So we're not going to go forward and backwards off the 41234. Some hoping that you've understood why this showing you just now. And I would like us to now play with a metronome after 4,123,423.4. So working in Left Hand and your right hand separately. Then join me next when we put both for hands together. See you soon 18. F#m (Natural) Both Hands: Alright guys, welcome back. Now we're looking at both hands together. Alright, so just take note of this. So the forefront of Left Hand and second in the right-hand rule play at the same time. And that'll be our starting point. Platelets and slow and talk the same time. Go on day in your Right Hand. Go over in your left hand. So C sharps Both for things in the C sharps for finger and for finger. And your left hand side finger in your Right Hand. Right Hand. Go over in your left hand with the Fed fingers on C-sharp. Then end second finger in your Left Hand on F-sharp, first finger on the F sharp in your Right Hand. That sets you again nice and slow. So this time is watch my fingers now and talk. One last time. To work on that. Hopefully you got to go forwards and backwards second and third to give her didn't go back. And said second and fourth fingers. Same time. Just to let gains going backwards. That's how we're going backwards. So now cannot afford part. And we just let our backwards part. So welcome those parts separately first, then put words together at this point now. C# Minor Natural Intro: Our next natural minor scale is the C-sharp Minor Scale. So this scale is the relative to the E major scale. And the notes for this scale are C-sharp, D-sharp, E, F sharp, G sharp, a, B, and C sharp 20. C#m (Natural) Right Hand: For the C-sharp natural minor scale, we start with why Second thing, but this time around play F0 first, then I'm going to explain to you afterwards how it goes off to 41234. So to play this scale, we start off our second finger on the C-sharp. Such finger on D-sharp goes underneath to the E. The second thing got on F-sharp, said finger on G-sharp from underneath. Again. One free. C-sharp than for finger on D sharp this time around than farmer and E. Second finger and F-sharp. Third finger on G-sharp. From an a. Second finger on B, and third finger on C Sharp. Yep. So apart from the very first time, they C-sharp, which is the second finger. All the other see shops, you put your first finger on those see shops, Right? So I play one more time. So second finger on C-sharp, D-sharp, E to keep growing under to the a. Now, the third finger on C-sharp, forfend from underneath one to the such finger. And again, Guan to bend to the first finger. Go back, quits. Finger over, for finger over, finger over. We end on. That's the whole thing. This is work going forward first and foremost. So just remember that we start with our second finger to the third dinner from underneath. Alright, so after 41234, under under again. Now fetching, going C-sharp, D-sharp from underneath again, under again, then we end on C-sharp like that. Yep. So another thing to note as well is that you're from wasteland on the E or the a note as well. So let's do this for the metronome just going forwards off the 4,123,423.4. So that's how you pay going forwards and backwards is just free to one over with the Fed finger, free to one, then over the full finger, 4321, over the third finger, free to one. Did over the third again. Free. This time joining me. I'm good, Nice and slow. So after 41234 over now for finger finger, third finger. And don't just like that. So what on this scale going forward and then what can it going backwards? And then dreamy now, what we're going to put it altogether going forward and backwards. Alright, so with the metronome off to 41234, backwards, one more time to free fall. And that is how we play the C sharp minor scale in the Right Hand. Alright, so now we're going to put a Left Hand 21. C#m (Natural) Left Hand: So for the Left Hand now, we start off our third finger. So be like this. It goes 321 for finger goes over 4321, come back to the third finger, free to one. Then for finger, for free to one did end on. Alright. One more time has gone forward. So it's free to 1/4321. Go over again, free to one. Then over 4321. This time, our farm lands on the E or the B node in the Left Hand going forward and backwards as well. Alright, so let's do that will together off the 41234 Hadoop going forward, then going backwards. It's sick of fingering that C-sharp, then gone back. It's gonna be 1234 under 123, under again, 1234 on the one more time, 123. So after we pay the C-sharp, which is on the second finger, then the punch this 1234, then one to frayed and 1234 then 123. As I always say, learning going forward and then backwards and then join me on forward and back because with the metronome off the fall one to free, fall. Free and they gain 23.4. Okay. So hopefully you caught that. And next we'll be looking at putting both hands together 22. C#m (Natural) Both Hands: Looking at putting both for hands together for the C-sharp Natural minor. So it goes like this and play nice and slow free. So we start with the first finger and our Left Hand and our second finger in our Right Hand. Let me play it for you. Nice and slow and I'm going to explain it as we go along. So let's go 1234 froms and E for finger and the Left Hand goes in F sharp, whilst the second thing in the Right Hand goes to F sharp from a in your Right Hand and flattened second finger on a in your Left Hand. Dense the from on be in your Left Hand and it's the second finger on be in your Right Hand. Keep going and repeat the same pattern. Nice and slow. Second fingering, Left Hand goes in C-Sharp. You first think it goes in C-Sharp in your Right Hand. Alright, let's do that again. Just going forward. Can do it again. I'm play nice and slow and make sure, and make sure you're watching which fingers play the same notes going forward. Okay. So let's go. And there you have it. So what can that form? It's watch my fingers. You can always rewind and make sure you're playing the right notes to create finger in as well. Alright, so that's going forward. Is it going backwards? Second finger and the third finger match. Go under with the farm in your left hand. Keep going. Cross over. If you're fed fingering Right Hand. Go under in your Left Hand and Both thumbs be an E for finger now goes and D-sharp. Second finger and thumb for finger over from together. Me N to C sharp.
