About This Class

Hi, fellow students in this class I will be showing you how to play all the Harmonic minor scales on the piano and the theory behind it to help all students understand. This is the first of a three-part course that will explore the following minor scales 

1. Natural Minor Scale

2. Harmonic Minor Scale

3. Melodic Minor Scale

  • By the end of this class, you will learn the following:

    1. How to play the natural minor scale with the circle of fifths 

    2. All the minor scales on the white and black notes

    3. Know how to play the scales on the Left, Right, and both hands together

    4. Learn the best fingering to play these scales

    5. Be able to play with a pulse 

    6. Learn to recognize this scale

1. Intro - Harmonic Minor Scale: Playing the piano to be challenging, especially with audio distractions in life, work, family, education. But have you always had that burning desire to learn? You may have started the Lessons when you were the kid. But I didn't finish to a point that you felt confident to play by yourself or play for others. Or maybe overtime the excuses of powder on as to why you can't learn now, I'm too old, I'm too busy. It's too late. However, this does not have to be the case. Hi, my name is Eric. I'm upcountry to **** face skillfully. As a Piano educator and musician, I aimed to help all my students learn the piano and simplified way that they can understand and grasp will also help with all my shoes to achieve their goals at their own pace. But also if confidence that they know what they're doing after they finished the Lessons, it must Skillshare lessons. I will be breaking down all the essential parts of London, the piano, the codes, the scales, chord progressions, songs, styles of music, rhythm, music theory. In this course, I'm going to be showing you the Harmonic Minor Scale. Alright, so this will be in a Right Hand, Left Hand and both hands put together. I will also be showing you songs that have this scale in them. So you get familiar with the standard this scale. So guys, I look forward to having you on this course and I hope to see you all rosy 2. A Minor Harmonic Intro: So we're not going to look Harmonic minor scales. And our very first Harmonic scales that a minor harm when it scale. In this scale, we only changed one note, which the G to G sharp I should can see. Alright, so I'm gonna show you this next. 3. Am - (Harmonic) Right Hand : For the Harmonic Minor Scale, similar to the a natural Minor, but now we're adding a sharp know a black note, which is gonna be G sharp, Right? So G-sharp is to black node in the middle of the free black notes, Right? So G-sharp in the middle of the free black notes. So it goes like this in the Right Hand, going forward and backwards. You note. So that's his how the a Minor Harmonic scale goes and that's what we're going to achieve. But in this lesson. So to play this scale, same as before. Same thing, grandniece 123 go under one. Free. But now you for finger will play the new node, which is the G-sharp note. Repeat the whole predicated on free. But now you finger will land on the heel. Go backwards. For finger always on the tea shops. Basically how we play that a Harmonic minor. So all we're essentially doing is changing OneNote in this scale. Am - (Harmonic) Left Hand : Every exactly the same. But now, as you pay this scale, our second finger will be hitting the G-sharp note. Alright, so watch my fingers as I go up and down this scale. So exactly the same thing. The only differences is that our second finger now hits the G-sharp note rather than the full finger, as it wasn't in the right hand. So welcome back the metronome first Intro me at this point here. Alright. So one to free fall. Free fall. And there we have it guys. So that is how he played this guilt in our Left Hand. So what you are able to play the right-hand and left-hand separately, then join me next to put them both together. 5. Am - (Harmonic) Both Hands : Let's put it altogether now. But the Left Hand and Right Hand saw play it first without know metronome, you can draw me now. And we can play together again with the metronome off the for one, T, free. So I'll see you next. 6. E Minor Harmonic Intro: In the E Harmonic Minor Scale, we add the D sharp. So now it's gone from D to D-sharp. That's like a new black notes 7. Em - (Harmonic) Right Hand : Now going to call E harmonic minor scale. So will the notes are the same as the natural scale apart from, we have to D-sharp note that way I did on. Alright, so fingering is all the same song, a plate F0 first, then I'll break it down to SRE afterwards. So it goes like this. Alright, so let me break this down for you. So it goes like this. It goes 123, go under to the a, the farm. Keep going. Now go to the D-Sharp note that's on, you know, keep going. Repeat the same pattern and all your five fingers now. Go backwards. Will five fingers over the firm, over the farm. And lastly, FRD over the phone. And that's how we basically E Minor Harmonic scale going forward and backwards. Once you've got that, then join me now with the metronome. Off the fall 1234. So next up, we're looking at our Left Hand 8. Em - (Harmonic) Left Hand : To get straight into this, am I break it down for you straight away as we play this scale. So all five fingers going up. Other via the farm, go to the new note, which is the D-sharp. But the second thing got full finger over the farm. Then said finger over the phone. And there. All right. And going backwards, free, go under under the F sharp with the farm. Second thing where like D-sharp. Thank keyguard. If Sharp. Alright, so that's basically how we play the E Harmonic Minor in our Left Hand and all the same fingering as you can see. So now it's played with the metronome off the 41234. And that is it guys. So next up, I'll be showing you how to play in Both Hands. 9. Em - (Harmonic) Both Hands : Songs you cave playing the natural minor scale in both hands. You should be fine with this. Bunks always going to add is the D sharp node. Okay? So I'm going to get straight into this on a plate first, then we'll play with the metronome afterwards. So like this. In your right hand, left hand. Your right hand? Left hand with the forefinger. On Daniel, Right Hand. Other thing, you Left Hand. Go under in your left-hand. Both. Who share your right hand? On the left hand? Right hand. On the left-hand side in your right hand. Just like that, guys. Alright, so what can that, and then let's pull it together with the metronome. 123. Go. So yes, working your left hand, right hand and then aimed to put it altogether. But play I paste that you feel comfortable, okay, this is metronomes speed is too fast to slow down a bit. Yeah, that's, that's the whole scale. So now play along with me as I break it down. Alright, so it's pretty simple just because this one under the E, Keep going up. That new black note, which is the A-Sharp. Keep going. Yep, that's it. Going forwards and backwards. Finger over. For finger over. Mostly for finger over to the D. And that's how you play in the right hand. So let's play this now with the metronome. So welcome, not going forward and backwards and then join me with the metronome afterwards. 12341234. She 34 12. Bm - (Harmonic) Left Hand : Tab, we start with the forefinger, as we've done with the natural minor. So it's for free. She wants for finger over F sharp. How many Scale? 14. F# Minor Harmonic Intro: So for the F-sharp Harmonic scale, we're going to be playing the E sharp know as our new notes. So just to note that E-sharp is exactly the same as the F know that FY notes. Alright, so no difference, it's just a different name. So I will be showing you this scale 15. F#m - (Harmonic) Right Hand : Okay guys, so for the F sharp Harmonic Minor, the only difference between this scale and the natural minor is that we're changing the F to E. No. Okay. So F no longer exists in this scale. So it goes like this. And there we have it. That's, that's how it goes. Alright, so it's pretty straightforward, as I said before, one thing that's changing is the F to the E, sorry, the E to F for this scale. Alright, so now let's place with a metronome. And you can play it by yourself first before joining me with the metronome. Off the full 123, full. There we go guys. So that's how we plot F sharp Harmonic Minor in our Right Hand. So next up, we're looking at Left Hand 16. F#m - (Harmonic) Left Hand : So Left Hand, same fingering as the F natural minor. And as mentioned, we didn't go playing E, but we're playing F Now. It's in a place for you going forward and backwards then will pave the metronome straight afterwards. So it goes like this. So this now play with the metronome 123. Go, Right. What time? Alright, so what you can do your left-hand and right-hand. Good. Than dry me as we put both hands together. Next 17. F#m - (Harmonic) Both Hands : The type forward and backwards first, seek watch my fingers or you can dry me. Then we'll play with a metronome afterwards. So now there's play with the metronome, 12, free go. And that's how you play the F sharp Harmonic Minor in Both Hands. 18. C# Minor Harmonic Intro: In the C-sharp Harmonic scale, we have a new note, which is B-sharp. So just to note, the B-sharp note is exactly the same as C, as you can see. Be showing you this next 19. C#m - (Harmonic) Right Hand : First going to demonstrate to you to D-flat Harmonic Minor and the Right Hand, then I'll break it down to next. Right? So say play the D flat Harmonic Minor in the Left, Right Hand. So this scale will be pretty simple for you if you already know that D flat natural minor scale. The reason why is because all you're changing is OneNote. So instead of playing a B note, you're playing C instead. Alright, so you can skip the B and play C instead. So play, feel nice and slow. And watch my fingers. Same fingering as well. Natural Minor from underneath. So now soap stead of playing the B, we skip and go to the see. We keep going up four fingers from underneath. On the farm. See. We ended the foot finger on the D flats are unpaid one more times going forwards. So you can play along if you will know that D flat natural minor, this fingering is exactly the same, alright? Under blender again to the a to C or the four fingers. Under under one more time. Down. Over 13, go finger over. And go over. One more time. Free to just like that. So now we're going to play with a metronome. So I would like you to try me as I play with the metronome, okay, once you figured out how to play this scale. But as I said before, as long as you know that D flat natural minor scale, we need to do change the be to the C note. So if you've skipped that scale, I would like you to go back to that one first, then do this one afterwards because it will make more sense. Alright, so we're gonna do this now with the metronome off the 41234. There we go, Guy. So that's how you play the D flat Harmonic Minor in our Right Hand. So next up, we're looking at our Left Hand 20. C#m - (Harmonic) Left Hand : Scale. Only thing that's changing is the be to the see, sort of fingering in the Harmonic Minor is exactly as same as the natural minor and the Left Hand as well. Now, I did not see notes. Alright, so I played for you real quick. Swatch my fingers for finger. Going four, sorry. Blacklist. Second. The one more time. So it's free. It's the second thing, three-finger for free. And that is how we basically pay in the left hand. So what can I, and then join me now with the metronome 123. Go. Welcome that for me and join me next as you put both hands together 21. C#m - (Harmonic) Both Hands : So guys wouldn't get straight into this. Now. I'm going to play it one time through forward and backwards in both hands. Demagnetize the metronome afterwards. So you can even try me or watch my fingers. Alright, so now let's take the metronome 123 go. And that is how we play the D flat Harmonic Minor in both hands. So just take your time to work in this scale 22. G# Minor Harmonic Intro: So for the G-sharp Harmonic Minor Scale on Nino is going to be G, or also known as F double sharp. You can see, I'm going to show this to you next 23. G#m - (Harmonic) Right Hand : For G-sharp melodic Minor, the, you know that we've changed from the natural minor is we're now playing a key instead of the F sharp note. Alright? So I'm now going to play it for you going forward and backwards. You can draw me or you can just watch my fingers as it go up and down. G Now, F sharp. Yep. So as long as you know G-sharp, natural Minor, you'll be fine with this scale. Alright? So if you don't know too well, can always go back to the scale of key shop natural Minor. But that will help you to play the scale, okay? Alright, so this pace, now with the metronome, right to the fingerings all the same in the right-hand and left-hand. 123. Go. So what can I and then join me for the Left Hand? 24. G#m - (Harmonic) Left Hand : Guys, so for the Left Hand and the play going forward and backwards, because we already know the notes and the fingering is exactly the same as the natural minor. All right, so let's go. Alright, and that's how you play that skill Left Hand. So now we're going to save them off the fall 1234. And that's how you play the scale in a Left Hand. So next up, we're going to be looking at both hands together. 25. G#m - (Harmonic) Both Hands : First going to play going forward and backwards so you can see my fingers. And then we'll play with the metronome create afterwards. Alright, so now we're going to play with a metronome 123 go. That is how to pay G sharp Harmonic Minor Scale 26. D# Minor Harmonic Intro: D sharp harmonic minus scale, our new note is going to be D, and I'll see you next for our lesson. Okay. 27. D#m - (Harmonic) Right Hand : We're now looking at our D-sharp Harmonic Minor Scale. So the only difference between this scale and the D-Sharp natural Minor is that we're changing the C-sharp note to Dino. Alright, so C-sharp no longer exists and there were playing the notes. So no play it for you. I'm forward and backwards then I'll break it down to you afterwards. And that's how he play it to the fingering is all the same. But as I said before, the only difference is that we don't play the C-sharp no more. You play the D. Alright, so I'm play nice and slow fee. So watch my fingers and we can play along as well. Because as I said before, only one note that's changed. Nice and slow first. So watch me play them with me. All the same. Second figure that goes to D, to C sharp. So next up we're going to be looking at our Left Hand, The D-sharp Minor Harmonic 28. D#m - (Harmonic) Left Hand : For our Left Hand, same fingering and the same, the less change which is D. Alright, so, so as long as you know the D-Sharp natural Minor in the Left Hand, you will be filed with this. Because as I said before, well, I didn't because as I said before, we're only changing that OneNote, which is D. Alright, so it's tastes now with a metronome 123, go. And that is it. So next up, we're going to be playing this in Both Hands. 29. D#m - (Harmonic) Both Hands : Now we're gonna put it all together. Alright, so I'm gonna play up and down first without know metronome. You can watch or you can draw me. Then we'll play with the metronome afterwards. Let's now do this with the metronome. Off the fall 123 go. So that is how you play a D-sharp Harmonic Minor Scale input for Hands 30. A# Minor Harmonic Intro: For the B-flat Harmonic Minor Scale on new notes is gone. I will demonstrate these two mixed up 31. A#m - (Harmonic) Right Hand : So I will first demonstrate to you that a sharp Harmonic Minor in the Right Hand, and then I'll break it down next. So for this scale, the only node that has changed from the natural minor is the a sharp is now a. Alright? So in a natural Minor, we played the A-Sharp. In a Harmonic Minor, we play the a note to everyone else is exactly the same and the fingering is exactly the same as well. So watch me as I play the F. Now we go to a whole part in the game. Next to a GAN for finger and go backwards. Just let that. All right, so if you don't already know that a sharp natural minor scale, go back to that lesson, then come back to this one because it will all make sense to you. Alright, but only differences is that we're playing a instead of the G-sharp, A-sharp before. So G-sharp. Alright, so a instead of the G-sharp notes. So welcome that. A#m - (Harmonic) Left Hand : For the Left Hand, as I already mentioned, we're going to be playing the a note is still instead of the G-sharp notes. Okay? Alright, so, um, it gets shortened to this on a plate free onetime fruit up and down. And then we'll play with the metronome. So you can watch my fingers or you can play along with me. So as long as you know the natural minor scale in the Left Hand, the fingering is exactly the same, and then those are all the same apart from the anode. So I'm going to start now. Alright, and that's how we play it. Sica slowed down the figure if you want to see where my fingers went to. But as I've mentioned previously, the only thing that's changing is that we're playing a instead of the G-sharp. So once you are ready and you understand how to play this scale in your Left Hand. A#m - (Harmonic) Both Hands : Hey guys, So when they put both hands together now for this scale, I'm going to go forward and then backwards. Watch my fingers very carefully. I paint nice and slow for you. And then once you're ready, and once you understand how to play in both hands going forward and backwards, dry me with the metronome on the Start now. So we start and end on the same finger. Okay, So welcome that. Please don't just jump straight in with the metronome plate, nice and slow, and then draw me afterwards. So now I'm going to pave the metronome off the fall, one, T free for. So that is how you play the a sharp melodic minor 34. F Minor Harmonic Intro : So for the F Harmonic scale on new note is going to be E. Now, show this scale mixed 35. Fm - (Harmonic) Right Hand : When it comes minor scale, the only node that has changed is the D-sharp is no longer D-sharp, but now E in the F harmonic minor scale. So I'm going to play it for you first. I'll break it down afterwards. Alright, so let's take this scale, pretty straightforward. So I will now break this down for you. So if fingering goes like this, it goes 1234, go under the for finger, one, surfing, grow and the E free and go under gain. Then 1234, go under one more time. 123. So the fingering will be for free, 4.4, right thing going backwards, It's 4321. Go over the full finger for free. Fed finger over, then it's free to 1/1 more time with the full finger. 432.1. Just like that. I can't and that's the whole, and that's how we play the whole scale. Alright, so platens, so I'm not going to play this with a metronome. Okay. 123, full. Yep.
