1. Peacock Pearls - learn how to set half-drilled pearls with two projects: Hello, My name's John Tinley. I'm a jewelry designer and shooter from the South Coast UK. I'm welcome to peacock compels in this house. Hells are a classic staple in any jewelry box, so it's about time that I showed you a classic used them in this class. We're going to be using half drilled holes pearls that have had whole drills as an intra jest halfway through towards center so you can't threat a piece of wire all the way through and put a loop. So a stone or pearl that is sold as, for example, a four millimeter diameter could actually be anything between about 3.9, maybe even 3.8 up to about 4.2, so it is worth asking supplies. Send your much pair wherever possible, or even better if you can visit the supply yourself and choose a matched pair. Of course, if you got the advantage of buying more than just a pair of buying a few, you can choose the best match fit yourself. Peacock Pearls - equipment: This is the equipments I'm going to use to make the peacock pearls earrings. The first thing I'm going to need to do is cut off sections of tube. Andi. I'm going to hold the two whilst I cuss it in the joint leveller, which is the red handle tour that you can see here. This tool allows me to hold the two firmly, but without damaging it so it doesn't slip about trust on cutting it and also helps me to cut it through nice and straight or level on. The reason why it's called a joint clever, that is, that it cuts things through nice and straight and level Andi, because tube is quite often used to form hinges or joints in jewelry making well, im soaring the tube. I'm going to support the joint over that on the bench Peg Andi, I'm going to see P soaring with the jeweler's saw the apron underneath the bench. Park will catch the dust so I can put that in my scrap pushing. Use it, recycle it at a state, going to use the ruler Onda, a Sharpie, to help me initially work out how much tube I want to cut, and I'll also be using those at later stages in the class to mark out why that I want to cut as well. I'll be using my bench drill to drill some holes in the tube. That's the ear wise for the drop. Hearings on the posts for the Powells are going to be put into. I'm going to be drilling the holes with a no 0.8 myr me to drill bit before I start soaring off sections of the tube, though I want to make sure that the end I'm working with is nice and straight, nice and square. So I'm going to use the engineers. Set square to check it on and the six inch flat file to five. It's square if necessary. Once the sections a cube cut, I'm going to use the Emery paper just to sloughs off the ends. And to make sure there aren't any rough sections. The pearls are going to be glued onto the posts with a two part epoxy glue on designs that use half your pearls are going to be the only class that you will ever hear me mention. This is a soldering project, so let's also have a look at the soldering equipment that we're going to need to make the earrings 4. Peacock Pearls - soldering equipment: This is the soldier equipment, as I use for all of my smaller projects, such as earrings and sore pendants, everything sitting on a couple of slate tiles, a heatproof surface to help protect my desk on my work sits on a couple of soldering bricks , soldering blocks, while some heating it up. One of these soldering bricks is made of a softer material than the others. Because it's softer, it's picked up some dips and some cracks in it. It's being used over the years, and these could be very useful for supporting work that isn't completely flat. The charcoal block is there because I melt small piece of scrap. On top of that on. Do they form nice of my balls as I am used to decorate my projects when I need to pick up my work or to support it whilst I'm soldering? I used reverse action tweezers that you can see here and have also got a pair on a stand through 1/3 hand, and it's there when I need 12 on extra hands to help me out. The blue handled stick is a soldier pick on and that I used to push soldier move it about to make sure it it's exactly what I wanted to be. Soldier usually comes in strips or sticks. Andi, I've got three different melting temperatures here that I using combination for different projects. The soldier gets cut into small pieces or Palin's you ting. The red handles snips as I keep those little pieces in the labeled boxes that you can see do. Make sure that you label your boxes because once a soldier is cut up, you won't be hard to tell which is which. Melting temperature. My curl over the ends off the sticks of solder so that I can tell which melting temperature they are, the more cold over they are, they're higher. The mountain temperature, bright yellow liquid is a flux. Solder won't actually flow out through the joining unless you use a flux with it. Andi the paintbrushes. What? I used to apply the flux to the joints in my work, so he was also available in a paste form, its ground up soldier that's already mixed with a flux, so you don't need a separate flux. In fact, if you were toe adds the yellow Fluxus, I showed you it would stop this soldier pace from working properly. It's most commonly available in syringes with small tips that she can see here. You can also buy it in tubs and pots, just like with the traditional sticks or strips of soldier, so the pace is available in three different melting temperatures. Easy, medium and hard. I've just got easy and medium here. The easy is the one that's 268 degrees sent rate for amounting temperature. The medium is 732. Recent weight. As you can tell, the easy solder paste, is a favorite newer than the medium soldier paste. When you have a new syringe, it's best to pull back on the plunger after you finished using it. Otherwise, the soldier pace is going to continue to snake out of the tip a little bit, and you don't want to waste it because this is actually the most expensive way of buying soldier. I like to use the solder paste on projects like chains on door, so hollow beads sometimes might use it on sucking rings if I'm in a bit of a hurry, because one of the advantages sort of place is that the soldier usually stays exactly where you want it to be. Unlike the sort of Italians that can jump off as you start to heat the metal up, small projects like hearings only need a small blowtorch, and I've got two different makes of those here. Both of them are easy to refill with the gas that comes in aerosol cans since the same type of gas butane gas that you use to reform cigarette lighter. At the back of the picture, you can see a so cooker that Scots a very mild acid solution. Good safety pickle in it. When you heat silver up, the surface becomes not darker and dirtier looking that some of the capo in the study silver reacting with the heat and auction flame to forward cause copper oxides on the safety pickle cleans that copper oxides up. Before you put your work in the safety pickle, it needs to be cooled down or quenched in a pot of water. Andi, you need to put your work in and out of the safety pickle with brass or plastic tweezers, not the stainless steel ones that I showed you before, and thus, but definitely not least are her safety glasses. Peacock Pearls - cutting the tube: before I start cutting off slices of the tube to use in the earrings, I want to make sure that the end to something start working with on each piece of tube is nice and square on. If it's not, I'm going to file the end of it by six inch file. So so I'm going to do is use the engineers where going to push the tube up against the handle, slide it up to the top. Here on this one is nicely done. It's nicely square. I don't do anything with that. That one's ready to be cut into slices, so it's trying. With this one. This one's not bad. Those needs a little bit of fun. It is a teeny tiny bit higher on this side than here, so teeny probably wouldn't be able to tell what's holding it up again to see the Engineer square a teeny type. So I'm going to do, I feel watched my bangle making class this but will be quite familiar because what I'm going to do, just treat this as if it's, ah length of silver. So I'm going to make a bangle off. Hold it on my bench pink. So what a nice right angle here, as I hope to file parallel up against this side of the bench Pake and just file going away from me. I know I'm holding everything at the right angle. Remember, the files only work in one direction. So if you to go back within four words, it wouldn't actually do any of the work. They could put more marks into your silver. Just a few strokes. The father Andi, please. A little bit more. So what harm here. But what you far the other way? It sometimes happens. Well, it's better, so I'm happy with that. So what I need to do is cut off two slices off the smaller tube for the stud earrings. Andi cut off two sizes off each for the droppingly, so in total got two sizes off the sicker. What are bigger tube four slices smaller. Andi decided that I want to cut off slices that close to formula makes is as I can get them because the piles air about four millimeters. I want everything come pretty lined up pretty nicely. So I'm just going to use the ruler to allow me to use a Sharpie to put a line. But full minimum each is Andi. But I think the joint lover here put the lid back on the sharp because I won't need that for a little while. Now. The joint lover, the tube, It's house in this section here on the handle comes across this cause of thumb guard for me to be able to hold it in place. But it's got a wider area here that allows me to sit on top of the bench pig. There's a tiny bit of wiggle room in the inside the groove, so there is always a time and variation on each side. Us up with the file. So the next stage is that I want to start drilling some holes because it's going to be a lot easier to do that before the different sections the hearing are sorted together. 6. Peacock Pearls - drilling: I paired up my six pieces off Tubas. I cut off. Those longer thinks he's still before, so I've got a pair of smaller ones. Here is I'm going to use for the stud earrings, a pair of larger ones, another pair of smaller pieces of tube, and those are going to make up the drop earrings in this past the class. We're going to drill the holes in the to Andi. These holes are going to be drilled so that we can put a little bit off no 0.8 millimeter round wire through the holes on, then sold them in place. Soldering a wise this way in separatist. Butting the wires up against the tube is going to give a much, much stronger soldier. Join Andi. The pieces of why that are going to go on the two pairs of smaller tube are going to be the posts for the polls for half your pals aunt to longer wires that are going to be sold it into theme. Bigger pieces of tube are going to fall, the ear wise, I should be able to see that smaller pieces of tube have got pen marks on them, and I've used the very fine nib sharp it's I've got on and the ruler to mark the midpoint on those pieces of tube on. Then I've actually used those as a guide to drill holes on this, you might be able to tell the not exactly to the 0.1 of a millimeter right on the cross that was marked, but they're close enough, so I need to drill those on door. So mark these and drill thumb. So that's what I'm going to do now. I'm going to need to move the camera out so you can get a view of what I'm doing and not just a view of the tube, but I want you to see a close up of the peace tube with the marks on first. Now, as you can appreciate, trying to line up something that is round next to a ruler so that you can put a mark on it is not always the easiest thing to do, especially when it's tiny. Remember these pieces of tube or any four millimeters across? So the best way I found to do this is if you push the tube up against something, So in this case, against the Clampett of the bench. Block. Bit of my my bench. Paige clump. Um, I've got the ruler next to it, and I've lined it up at the end of the ruler. Andi, I moved the ruler rather moving the pieces to buy. It's you found that easier. So it was going to do now is use my fine it by ultra sharp. What? Or ultra fine Sharpie. Just to put a market. The two millimeter point Because, remember, these are four millimeters long. So right now we got to see this bit very clearly, but you see the result of it. So it's quite put my finger there just to steady it. Well, I hope you see the mark there. Andi. Do the same with the other one. Get everything. Line. Don't nice seeing again. Just don't hold him. I didn't want to push it down so much shooting out. I lose that. Ever go scrubbing about on the floor for it that has been known. Every guy says Mark started. So what I'm going to do now is again. Just use a Sharpie just to go straight across a piece of tube to put your to finish the mark. So those are the crosshairs, if you like, of where I'm going to drill the hole on. That's the witch that I'm going to show you next. What? You need to move the camera first. I've got my bench tool set up with a no 0.8 millimeter Drillbit because I went to drill a hole that is thes same diameter as my wires. I'm going to be poking through them just because that's going to give a really tight join for soldering. So a thing you can do to make your soldier join the strongest possible is worth doing. As you saw earlier, I've already drilled the holes in two of the piece of tubes. I've got four left to do Andi, the same as with their putting the marks on these. They are still very small round, not necessarily easy to hold pieces of silver. Andi, I do want to make sure some holding them safely and carefully because firstly, I don't want to drill bit to slip Andi foothold in the wrong place and ruin my Peter Silver Andi. Secondly, I want to make sure the obvious is more importantly, that I went to make sure that my fingers are safe. I can recycle the silver and yet another piece of to put if I have my fingers said so that's not so good. So my trick when I'm drilling small bits of tube is to use a pair of nylons, your pliers. So I'm going to do I'm gonna show you this now, because once it's actually on the bench, drill is not going to be so easy. To see words get lined up is such I'm going to hold the tube in between the night on Jaws. I'm going to move it a little bit so that that crosses right at the top. So I moved back into to view for you that crosses right at the chop and that the pliers Ah , that's better. Uh, the tube is held at the bottom of supplies. So hopefully, as I move that about you'll be able to just see in the light the cross marked on that piece of tube. So what I'm going to do now is going ahead and drill it. So you actually want to see the tube? What? It's Hyundai have to trust me. It is there. I'm going to first of all, make sure that's the job it is lined up properly on. Then turn a drill on. I just guide the drill bit through when I can feel that it's gone through the first sight, the tube. I'm going to lift it back up again on this particular project I don't want to drill a way through. So here we go, taking the time to make sure it's lined up. You can really feel when it has gone through that, that first side of the silver, so one down, three to go do it is exactly the same with the other three line up pieces of tube. What you charmingly during this, it's worth taking time to do it properly. Now that I could feel was slipping round. When it is just turning, so stops the drill, lined everything up again Any way there we go. I wasn't holding firmly enough with the plies on my first attempt to doing that piece of tube again. You don't want to press two hard because you don't want it to go shooting out, but you do want to hold it firmly so it will take a little bit of getting used to that. So it's worth just practicing gripping it first. One more today. Check. First. It's lined up for pre, and then is always more like it happened. When I'm demonstrating some things I need to have second attempt something, but least it shows you that you can put it right. So again, that just slipped a little bit, Theo. Okay, so that's no, I put them up here and see them. It's approved to You haven't lost any of them. Six pieces of tube with holes drilled in them. The next stage is to solder the short lengths of wire in place. 7. Peacock Pearls - soldering: I've bought the four pieces of tube over to the soldering station on dive. Also cut some pieces off no 40.8 millimeter around stunning silver. While I've cut four very short pieces about seven millimeters along which will actually be longer than we need for this project. I've also cut to longer. You can see them here. 5.5 centimeter pieces. I've already set the four shorter pieces of wire up in the smaller pieces of tube already. Remember those? They're going to be the posts that the half your pearls going to go on and to set them up, I put a little bit of medium solder paste on one end of each and then put that end through the hole. Just pokes just maybe a millimeter, if that through into the inside of the tube. And the reason I've chosen to use Soldier Pace for this project is that some of the pace would have got pushed through as well, even just Keeney Chinese amount. But that will help the soldier joint. But I've left the two large police YouTube on Duthie bigger pieces of wire to set up now so you can see that I leave those two because you actually had to see what I'm doing with these. You probably just see my fingers holding things I wouldn't go to good enough view. So I've got ah, hole drilled, sit, shining about catching like differently there. Andi, I've also put on the end of thes already a little bit of medium paced already. So all I'm going to do This is where it's a little bit more friendly. She went through easier than I thought it would, because remember, I'm doing a Georgia no 0.8 millimeter hole on, not 0.8 millimeter. Why? So I'm getting very tight fit so you can see what the why is poking so just a teeny tiny amount. I would need to know that up with files later. So good put carefully over there. Why do the same to this one? By the way, I did have a few burgers around the holes left over from drilling with an electric drill. You're actually more likely to get those alive. Don't just brushed them off. I didn't tidy up the holes in any other way because I'm going to be soldering into them, so I didn't really need to. So, again, every guy. So I've got six soldier joins to do on six separate pieces on I spread them out a little bit so that, as I saw each one in turn, I'm hopefully far less likely to melt anything next to them. The pieces of tube are actually quite thick pieces, so they are extremely unlikely to melt. I'd have to really, really overheat scenes that would be very obvious. However, the pieces of wire sticking out are a little bit more vulnerable. So when your soldering do carefully, watch out for those. So you're going to be watching for the right flashing that this flow out of the liquid soldier. But also do keep an eye that those pieces of wire aren't getting to read. The longer pieces are more vulnerable than shorter ones because they just hit hard with hunger that Maura thumb that could catch the heat house that the flame I certainly because these are the sore pieces can be using small blowtorch. I'm going to heat up around each one. In turn, you might see through the, uh, binder in the soldier pace burning off. Nothing unusual. In that sense. I see a little bit of a green flame or heat up around each piece, is he? Suck gently on, then brush across Teoh, heat up everything evenly, and then get soldiers route and teaching up around 2nd 1 Now, out of the two piece of silver, the tube is the bigger piece. So I'm not gonna put some extra heat on that one. There we go. That was actually really obvious 11 Um, as the soldier melted, Peter Weir actually moved. Almost has snapped into place nicely, but on both of thes, I can see a nice live soldier around that joint might see. It is slightly slightly, Shania. It's been obvious on this one, I think, on that one. So I'm going to continue with these two and then move on to the ones with the wise A service The soldiers dismount flowing out Take the heat away. So I'm actually now going to show you a little bit of ah, more advanced trick. It's called dumb pick silvery when it's the reason why I like to have a pick in one hand and the other hand there, that sorting the blowtorch so that I can do this even necessary. It's not that common for sort of pace to fall off. But you see, there it is. It doesn't every now and again. So what I'm going to do is holds the pick up against it is actually some excess flux on the pick at the moment, always up against it. Andi mounts the piece of soldier onto this talks and pick. Tungsten is why special in that soldier will not float into it. It will only sit on top of it. And then when I touch it in place when the silver is at the right temperature, If we get drawn into the silver off the pick se, you can see there I move that around little silver ball on the end of the pick, so I make sure I can get designed up to everything. We're going to swap hands so flame can come from this side and I got better control with my right hand is I mean right handed with the pick that so I can get in like so have things at the right temperature Touched the soldier to the silver I stayed on silver now way go. So what happened when the silver was virtually right temperature Was that soldier preferred thing to sit on the silver? A supposed to sit on the pick? Um And then as we got up to solving temperature, it flowed nicely. Has done that joy nicely. Well, so be nice if this piece sage how I've set it up and say it in place. But it's nice to show you a bit more violence trick every now and again that wanted stand face. So I've got 12345 six pieces to with bits of wire sticking out of them. Those are going to go in the quench practical down and pick up what to clean up. And then my next job will be to clean up the little bit off wire that's sticking into that piece of tube or pieces of tube 8. Peacock Pearls - filing inside the tubes: the pieces of tube with their length. So why? I know, out of pickles, they've beans rinsed on given a careful Farai, like at the moment, the they're the ones remind me of garlic. So I think we need to sort to that out soon have their polls on and they look less Dolich like What I need to do in this stage of the video class is to tidy up the peace. So I got a couple off needle files here. This one's over. This one's round both tape hoods. So I'm going to use those two in combination to file inside. Let's move those out. The weight is concentrated. This knowledge a one at the moment so I'm going to do is hold the tube like so finger of thumb. So hold it Here, start filing there. What we have actually a place in this is going to get Ben tattle recognition, so I need to hold it firmly. Andi, keep fighting until it gets a lot shorter. So at the moment, what I'm finding is that piece of why I'm not touching tube, but the moment tour turn around from your side as well. I have now and see the silver just my finger. But because I've got a nice round needle files available as well, it is a little bit easier to use for this last stage of firing, so I got it. May well use it. Lost one. This is what you will see. It is very sore. This one's got a bigger piece sticking up, So take me a long shot. She's sticking up so far, taking up so much space in the that we're gonna go straight for sore file. I'm going to use easy soldier solving together here. Just remember, have taken the tip of the syringe off my easy sort of pace to because it was so small that I'm great difficulty actually pushing the pace through it. But I'm going to use easy solder paste. I used medium to put those posts in place. So by easy, easy, soldier, I'm not going to remote the medium soldiers join on. Personally, I don't like to mix the side sold Italians with solder paste, so stick with using paste. So it's gonna be one of these out of the way because I don't I need it on the bridge at the moment. Andi, it's going to hold it in a pair of red nose River section tweeters. So it's how securely on dup further but knows because my hand is felt he's held a little bit further away from the action away from the heat. So going to put a little bit of a soldier paste on there. Peacock Pearls - soldering the drop earrings: it's the turn of the drop earrings now their turn to be sold it on. I'm also going to do a little bit of filing to either side of those two pieces of tube because where is with the stunt earrings? It's just one piece of tube. It's too. With these. I want to look it, make it look nice and smooth. I want to make sure that I haven't got one Peter tube a fraction higher than the other. 11. Peacock Pearls - filing the tubes smooth: these are the drop hearings straight out of the pickle after they've been cleaned up after soldering Andi. There's one job I have to do. Before I could even think about finishing off the ear wires, his armpits here on sorting out the post for the pearl of the bottom. Andi, I've come in a little bit closer than usual, so you can see more clearly what it is I need to do. You should be out to tell that this hearing at the back is nice and shiny with top safety. That's why shiny this one there is ever such a slight difference to be talking about. I know less some 0.1 of a millimeter difference between the two pieces of tube on. That's because no matter how flat I think my brick is and how well I think I've set everything up, that can't help but be ever such a slight difference, sometimes between the the heights, the tube onda Also remember that in the joint level, eyes that is holding the tube. There is a little bit of wiggle room that in the section that the blade fits in. So there is room for a tiny error. But I went to see if I can get rid of that era. So what I've done, you can see on both sides of this piece. I filed both sides, so they are now nice and flush. So this one is done. It needs a little bit tight ing up with some emery paper will do. Once I filed the 2nd 1 Andi, then it certainly is the y sorting out in these polishing. So I put that to one side. At the moment, this one have actually started a file on the back. You can see where some sections are a bit Shinya some sections of dull I need to keep going until it's shiny all the way across on both sides, just as the other gearing is. So I'm going to move the camera so you can see a better view of how we do it. I'm going to use my flat, six inch file to do this job. You could use a needle fine stead, but I like the wider, longer surface area working area that this is going to give me. But if you go, you got needle farther than that would do the job nicely. Andi, I've got this position. So the handles you can see is haing slightly off the desk so that the fire itself is flat on the desk on day I'm going to do is poach the hearing flat on the file and put back down towards the handle. Now remember, the fire keeps and finally works in one direction. The fine silver are still moving in the right direction relative to each other. Doesn't matter removed file or the silver just going to change direction. So going to move that Why rapper Little Better don't want the wire to get caught on the file. So I just bent it up a little bit, so it's out of the way. Don't be bent very much. I just took a chick every now and again to see whether it's als shining, which isn't just yet turning it around every now and again. It just helps to make shorts. It's like even all the way across. But I'm just gonna bend that you are ever so gently up a bit so that it's now that pointing downwards towards the file. The lighter patch on the file, by the way, is some silver dust building up. Even that silver dust ends up in scrap parts like you say nothing else twice. So every now and again I get annulled wide brush on just clean. The silver that's built up in the grooves on file helps hit file in good condition on and make sure it's a recycling as much silver as I possibly Can we go? Yes, I didn't take so long for some reason. So that's or four sites off to hearings done that always see those files that so that filing does have some some marks on there. So I'm going to do. And the reason why I still got this and shot isn't going to put some every paper on here. I put it on the bench, brought part off the clamps that hold my bench Paige in place because that's a really nice hard surface behind the Emery paper that's going to make sure that these sunny thoughts. We're gonna go little bit quicker that way. So I've been to do is just read right around again, just like the filing of me. Now again Hoat hearing a different way from a hiss as even as possible. So I'm doing spend the top of the way again. What I'm doing is just getting rid off. The far marks one dumb back out the way again. So the ear why just end up being Sundhage doesn't need to be done that way. Hey, that's what we're talking about silvered us so we can see a lighter patch on the Emory papers. Well, even that's got its over Dustin it So my Emery paper. I don't put it in the rubbish bin when it's past its best. Even that ends up in this crackpot. I've just changed the same. I've got to stud earrings here, although they didn't need any filing because obviously it's one piece of tube No. Two pieces. You don't worry about having to file down there, but just what I've got the Emmy paper out just to get rid off any marks left by Sobel Age just again going to give them a little bit of sand, right, So to Stutts and to drop hearings. What I'm going to do next, it's sort out the posts that the polls are going to fit onto. 12. Peacock Pearls - preparing the posts: the posters. I sold it onto the earrings, pearls, the two posts here on day. The, uh, shorter bits of wire on the studs here are definitely too long for the pearls. But I find it easier to sold the wrong bits of wives longer, so they are easier for me to handle on. Then shame them down to the right size afterwards. Unless I'm going to do in this part of the class. I fought back over the two pairs of pearls. What you small a pair here? Solar power panels, people stud earrings on the ever so slightly larger to remember. There's only 0.4 millimeter difference in diameter, but they are citing knowledge. Appeals for the drop hearings on Distancia. Put them on top of, ah, let of a plastic box because it's very easy for them to get lost. I put the power down. I'm marked underneath the Po, and that is the mark on this side. Either measured that distance so that links of why between the mark that I put underneath the pole on the tip of the wire is the distance into the bottom of the whole of the pearl. So then I measured two millimeters from the bottom piece tube and that's where that mark is now. So, no, as I trim that both, I might have to do a little bit of tidying up. I might eat a file a little bit extra off so he goes out of the way on the whole on Pope, back on again. I do need and you can see that. So with wires sticking up, I do need to trim a little bit texture off, so it's going to come in with file. It's easier when it's only that amount. To use a file check again, it's best to check. If I was to put a piece of glue on here, put the power back on and push the pile onto the post. That glue would be pushed down to the bottom of the post, and it wouldn't go between the post Onda pile toe. Hold the pole in place. What I need to do is to make a couple of indentations or notches on the post, even though it's very tiny Andi. As I push the pile onto the post, the glue will stay in those notches. There's not. She's will provide a little bit of space in between the post on the pole, The glue will stay there, and it will hold the pearl in place now is quite a few different ways of doing this. Some people use a triangle needle fire with a shop edge to it. My preference is to hold the post in the wire cutters now not pushing, not putting pressure when I'm doing is just holding them there. I'm going to twist the hearing on the post in those wire cutters between the jaws, the wire cutters and what that does, I can feel it with my son. Nail it. It puts a little groove on the post. I'm gonna do the same. But further up, I'm not pushing with the Custer's not putting pressure on them. I'm just aligned to hold around the wire again. I could feel two groups there on the post, so that's all that needed. So that post is now prepared. I need to do the same with the other three. Andi. Then I need to prepare the wise or drop earrings. All four posts are now prepares. You can see none of them are very long, especially the ones the studs on the smaller pounds, but that is all that's needed to hold the piles security in place once a group is there as well. Now it might be hard to see that the $2 repels are in different corners on Day one. Was ness once wasn't L? Because the stem on this one is to sell a ble larger longer than the one on this size? I got short long to remind me which way round they go. These there was no discernible difference between them. So the next job I need to do is to finish off the year wise. Peacock Pearls - earwires: the first step in turning the air Wives is to make sure that otherwise that from them are nice and straight. What we see. Mandrell, too, turn the wire around now these are pretty much because there's no difference either way around. There's no one side. That's nice. However, the next stages, I'm going to be hammering the front section of each year wire. And once that's done, I can't really pull them straight because I'm gonna have a deformed piece of metal. So said hammering is next. So I've got French block were clashing hammer. Just hammering that front section puts a bit of extra strength in the ear. Y just one thing at a time of strokes doesn't take very much. Okay, so no that sort of springer that's holding shape better. Two things I do 1st 1 is I'm going to use the straight nose pliers, just the wits of supplies that pulling that back, flicking into the air wire out if I show you the to you see, it does have a nice circum or professional finished to look on again, just that wits. I always use the same pliers for this. Always use the wits of the prize so that they will turn out much ing. So last thing is I need to do before putting these in the tumble to polish them. Issues needle file to meeting and smooth off the ends of the wire because otherwise, be rather uncomfortable going to the house in your ears. You can also get a tool called a cup ber or burke up to do this. Pretty aliens just twist it round. I didn't have a couple of those, but I much prefer using in your file. If you prefer using a burke up saying, by all means to go for it, use your fingers as well as your eyes. Remember to make sure that that end is nice and smooth. Okay, so I've already put the stud earrings in the tumble polish up. I'm going to add the's in as well on. Once everything is nice and shiny, I will show you how to put the pearls on the posts. 14. Peacock Pearls - gluing the pearls: both pairs of earrings are nice and shiny. Andi, I've done absolute everything I need to do to them. So now it's time to talk about how to mix up on Do Use the two part epoxy resin group that I used to secure the half your pearls on their posts. Two part epoxy glue is a lot easier to get hold off than it used to be. You can get some runs. It was expensive. Other runs history quite cheap, Andi To build it, even the cheap ones. I found some really, really good results from on. This is actually a fairly keep runs just from a pound store on you can see it comes in a two section syringe that you push the plunger a relatively have my almost equal amount comes out of each novel, so you got one part is theme epoxy. On the other heart is the hardener mix. The two together start a chemical reaction. That means that they will actually start to harden. Different makes have got different work times and different setting times. This one, I find it was what time of about five minutes, and it sets really well within half an hour. So for me, that's a kind time scarce. I like it means I don't have to try and balance something awkwardly for too long whilst it's drying. But I have got a little bit of working time, little bit time to figure about with things if I need to. I always work on paper, towel or piece of scrap paper. Andi, I also need something to mix the reason onto some of those out away ever so slightly. By the way, I still got my two polls in their labeled corners for the slight longer post on the site. Shorter post here somewhere. Move those generously. Don't move out of their corners. I've also got a couple off bent over interested pieces off binding. Why left over from from other jobs. So I'm going to use these for mixing up the epoxy resin. But does take the lid off this lead, by the way, can only don't go on one way. So it doesn't become contaminated. But a piece of scrap paper here and I'm just going to push out. Let me I go. You see the lead back on nice and safe, but you should be able to see a equal amount of each coming out shining in the lights. They're slightly so I'm going to use one of the twists of binding wire to mix that up, go around around and then back in forces well, to re make sure it's is evenly mixed as possible. Let's just say you have to work fairly quickly, cause once it's mixed up, that's it. Now I'm going to use the other twist off the binding wire on but I'm going to do is just take a teeny, tiny bit on such a drops that you probably won't even be able to see on the end there like a dewdrop, really? And just put a tiny bit on the end of that post, and then I could find the home. Okay, push the pile in place. I would like to give it a bit of a twist as well. One. I'm taking the drops from the center off the glue. A puddle of glues have mixed up, by the way, and not the edge, because the edges aren't going to be that evenly mixed. The other hole. Little bit of gloom to work quite quickly with this, so doesn't set the 2nd 1 on Andi No stud earrings as well. So go in the middle on. By the way, I used a different twist because chances are if I use the first twist of wire to put the glue on that again, the glue on there wouldn't be evenly mixed. This one's a little bit more freely to do, so small. Okay. Three. This is a nice designed to deal with it. It's, um, they can just lay down nicely. I don't have to prop them up in any way. Sometimes you have to prop designs up on the against boxes. You fall over E go. So that's all four pearls put on their posts. It's going to put them back all the lead here, so that I can then move them into a safe place without having to handle them too much. So very last thing. Any sushi? These He's just wait for the glue to set. And whilst that's happening, it's what I tell you a little bit more about. It's about using epoxy glue. I make sure that I keep it hit the syringes inside a Ziploc plastic bag, just in case it doesn't really count because if it does, it will make a mess. I also usually store it standing up as well, rather lying down. So So it's less likely to make a mess. The, um, reason that's here. The property reason here. I'm just going to leave to set on, then pop it in the bin on bond. The last two things to tell you for your house and safety. If you have sensitive skin in any way at all, then it would be advisable to where a pair off disposable gloves while you're mixing up and using the hypocrisy on. Also, please make sure that even if you don't think you've got in your fingers, I don't think I've got my fingers. But I'm still going to wash my hands before I each drink or put my hands anywhere near my face. So just a couple of health and safety considerations for you, but those will be set certainly the next half hour, and then they will be ready to wear 15. Peacock Pearls - final thoughts: Although we have two more pairs of earrings, each with a beautiful pair of pearls at the bottom, I think these stud earrings definitely win the price for the smallest past. Those earrings, as I have made so far, once you've learned the basics of how to use half jeweled pals in your jewelry, there are quite a few ways that you could adapt this project to suit your own style. The easiest way, of course, is to use a bigger tube. It was still create enough the light pair of earrings, because although the hearings will be bigger, maybe longer, they'll be quite a bit of negative space in the middle. In the center of that shoe tube does come in a really nice wide range of sizes on. Also, sickness is of to war, and you can also get you the different shapes you get square to, for example, that would go beautifully with some ground pearls. Of course, you could also have more than two pieces of tube. You could put a cluster piece acute together. It's completely up to you.
