1. Intro: Hi guys. My name is Paul Gilbert and I am
a professional artist. I began my journey as a
professional artist. And 2008. As a professional artist, I didn't have to like e.g. I am able to paint on different
surfaces, such as paper, canvas, Sarah me, glass
without any preliminary joy. I also explored different
techniques, e.g. angular printing techniques, splattering, boring,
palette knives. Since I love to
paint from reality, I go out and take pictures of different scenarios
and do my studio. There. I use these pictures as a guy
in order for me to produce. Maybe most of the time I
modified picture though, get the result that
I really want. I also paint on
different items, e.g. I. Paint on bags. I've been also on t-shirts
and other fabrics, higher slope it on shelves and I dropped in the class for today, you will be using the
under painting technique to create a painting
in monochrome. This exercise, you will
need only three colors, orange, yellow, and red. This class is meant
for beginners. You will be learning a simple
way to create a painting. At the end of the course, you will be able to create
your own painting using the underpainting technique
as a class project. Let's get started. See you in the first lesson.
2. What is underpainting?: Now the first course
and I'm going to teach is called how to create a simple painting of sensor by using
the underpainting. So what is under
painting technique? Under painting technique is
a technique whereby you use only one layer of color to cover the whole surface that
you are going to paint on. And then you use
other colors onto it. E.g. light or dark colors in a way that the vendor payment
will be shown through. So that means that the
color of the surface will also contribute
into the finite. Now why do I choose underpainting technique
to start with? It is because it's a simple
way to produce a painting. You do not have to have a
lot of knowledge in order to produce an amazing
piece of artwork. Using this second,
as you will see, why I chose a simple sense it. So a simple sensor to make
things easier for you. So I have chosen a

3. The color wheel: Now we have what we call
the primary colors. What are primary colors? Primary colors are colors which you can not create by
using other colors. On the other hand, you can use the primary colors and
mix them together, the grid, all difficulties. E.g. if you mix two primary colors
together in equal amount, you will get what we
call a secondary color. So the secondary color
on the color wheel will appear between two
primary colors, e.g. if you mix yellow and
red in equal amount, you will get orange. And orange is a secondary color. This is why range is between yellow and red
on the color wheel, if you mix yellow and
blue in equal amount, you will get green. And green is between yellow
and blue on the color wheel. And when you mix red
and blue, you get, so you will see between red
embryo on the color wheel. Now, what happens when you mix a primary color with
a secondary color? You will get what we call
it an intermediate color. So the intermediate
color is placed between a primary and a secondary current
on the equilibrium. E.g. if you mix
yellow and orange, yellow is a primary color and orange is a secondary color. So you will get an intermediate. An intermediate color will be placed between
yellow and orange. If you mix yellow and green, you will get yellow, green, and yellow green is
a secondary color, so it will be between yellow and green on
the color wheel. So it goes like this. Remember that color between the primary and secondary
color is the intermediate guy. It is also good to
know that we have also in add what we call
the neutral colors. What are your triggers? Neutral colors, the use of paint that appear
without the corner. This is why in art, neutral colors are not
considered as e.g. for why this, I'm sure color and black is another
new category. However, you can use neutral
colors with other colors. To make the grid effects
in your paintings, e.g. you can use white and mix
them with other corners. And when you do so, you
will get different tones of light and you can use it to create light
in your paintings. But when you mix black
with other colors, you'll get different domains
of yak or different shades, and you can use
them to create e.g. shadows in your painting. So we will stop here for
today on mixing chorus. And now let's get on
with the exercise. The exercise, what you do is how to create a simple painting of sensor by using the
under painting technique.
4. Points to remember: So remember something. You do not have to do things
exactly as I do because I want you to create or to
develop your own scale. Remember you have your
interviewers individually scale and you have
to create to use it, explore in order to develop. And this is what
I want you to do. So for the first exercise, we will use this as an example. We are going to produce
a painting like this. This painting. I've created it
from a photograph, and I modify it a bit. In order to have

5. Underpainting: Okay guys, Now we're going
to start the painting. As I said earlier, we are going to make
a painting a simple bending of sensor using the
under painting technique. I'm going to use one of
my own painting that I made from a picture
which I took of a sensor. So to start with, as I said, we are going
to follow three steps. The first step is to paint the whole surface in
one particular color. Then the second step, we're going to use other colors. And finally, we'll
add the details. Right? As you can see in the picture, the dominant color is orange. So to make things easier, we are going to paint
the whole surface, either if you are using
a paper or a canvas, we will paint the whole
surface in orange. Then this will be
the first step, and then we will pass
on to the second step. I will use this orange. As you can see, we'll
put some on the palette. For the palette, you
can use either a piece of wood or a piece of
paper or cardboard. Or a normal palate,
doesn't matter. So it's better to use
a flat brush for this, for the first part to
paint the surface. Remember, you do not have to worry about how to
paint the surface. It doesn't have to be perfect. You just have to paint it
and cover the whole surface. And try not to, not to use the color thick, but to use it thin light. I always start with it. Alright? Because remember that we are going to paint
over it afterwards. Okay, you can add
some water with the paint so that it doesn't
get too thick. Paint it. Okay, We have completed the
first part of the exercise. We have already painted the whole surface.
As you can see. The horse surface is painted. And now we will move
on to the next step. This is you add other colors to place the different items where they shoot on the
vintage on that picture.
6. Painting the sky: Okay, Now we're going to use all the colors over
there, corner. There we have already the
surface, they already injured. So I will put the different products
that we are going to use. Yellow, white, and black. Okay, these are the colors that we are going to use
for the painting. As you can see, there's
not a lot of colors. They are sufficient to produce
a painting with, okay, to start there, make it easier, is good to place the horizon. As you can see, there's
the eraser here. We use a thin brush. It's better not to use oh, my dark color for that because afterwards if
you make a mistake, you can paint over. So let's use a
little bit of white. As you can see, the horizon
is a bit towards the bottom. Closer to the edge
of the bottom. This is very important
because in this case, we'll be able to place
the coconut palm tree. Why it should be there? Because the coconut tree is a very important
subject in the picture. As you can see, there's, that should be enough. Please follow the coconut
tree and the leaves. So the horizon should
be somewhere here. So this will leave enough
space for the coconut tree. Alright, Now, what do we do now? Or you can use another brush, it will be bigger. And now we are going to
play with the light, as you can see,
that yellow here. Yeah. Okay. So you start with
a lighter color first, instead of a dark
color afterwards, you can add dark colors so
that if you make a mistake, it is easier to improve
on it or the corrected. Alright, so there's yellow and then there's the
white here as well. But we are going to place
in the picture, okay? Okay, Let's start
with this light. We can start with this
right afterwards. You can proceed properly. We put it here. Don't worry at this stage
about making mistakes because mistakes is part of the process when you're
making a painting. And in art, we do not
call it a mistake. It's just another
way of doing things. So you try to correct
over it afterwards. If you see that is not
what you really wanted. So you correct it and in a way that it gives
you the result you want. Okay? And then here, and then
boil them as well. You can see where
there will be light. Okay. Afterwards, we're going to put
it into the ship properly. But for the time

use some yellow. Sometimes you can mix it a

mixing orange with black. So black, as I
explained earlier, you can use it to blend colors with make your shadows, e.g. or different sheets.
The way light, yellow with orange, you'll get the yellow orange
you can see here. And if you put red with orange, you get red orange. So despite or you can just correct it a
little bit afterwards. Example here. You
can either have WE ever and orange. You can add some white as well. Okay? Yeah. All right. All right. Next, Finish read the clouds

7. Painting the sea: Now where we have

8. Painting coconut tree and bush: Now we're going to press the coconut tree or

make a mistake, you don't have to worry

an impression. This is a way of doing
things differently. So we'll get the
result you want. You just paint over
it and improve on or modify your make it

9. Adding final details: Now what you can do, you can just add details now, here and there, depending
on what you want. As a recent example. Can try to add something. Yeah. Some more details. Do the same here. Okay. As you can see, the painting is complete
now. It was just hard to do. Now. Signature and the date, as you can see at the bottom. So you can see it. The main thing is done
as you have seen. You don't have to have a
lot of knowledge in art to create your own painting using the end of
painting technique. It is very simple. We have started with a very
simple painting of sense it. Whatever you do, get the
idea of how you can do it. So as we go along, when we pass on to
the other course, you will see that now you
can proceed gradually, develop, and produce
