Painting a Scooter: Easy and Fun Watercolor Project

1. Introduction: Hi everyone, my name is [inaudible]. I'm a Water color, Artist and Illustrator. I teach a lot of water color classes online and live. This is another short summer class. Today we'll be painting this quarter. Next is that are shared with supplies will be using in this class. Let's get started. 2. Colors and supplies: In this class we'll be using the following supplies, watercolor paper, 140 pounds cold press. I'm using constant, but you can use any paper you like. Watercolor paint, paint palette, water, a paper towel. I cut the papers to the size I like, and you can do so too. Then we'll use a pencil and an eraser to draw everything. We may also use a fine liner and if you like income watercolor style, this illustration will look really cool in it. You can start drawing a fine liner right away. I'll also be using a medium watercolor royal round brush, this is number four and a small water color brush for details this is classic sable number two. Now let me show you the colors we'll be using today. So for our scooter, we'll be using a warm shade of blue, which in white names is called just blue. They have a bright bulb so that's the shade I'll be using but you can use just a regular blue too. You can use any colors you like actually. Then I will be using him Carmen red, Cotonou orange. So we'll be using Cotonou Orange to warm up our red a little bit and also orange is the opposite of a blue. Therefore if we feel that our blue is too bright or we need to darken it up a little bit and then we'll add a drop of orange to it. Also we'll be using yellow, this is just Cadmium yellow. Yellowish green and we'll be adding a little bit of bloodshed. For black details on this scooter, we'll be using just regular black. When we need great details, we'll just dilute it with a lot of water. So these are all the colors and supplies will be using today and we can get started. 3. Drawing a scooter: Now lets draw our scooter. Just like with the bicycle, in the bicycle class we'll start with positioning the wheels. Here we'll have one of the distance, like two, a width of the wheel 1,,2 two. We'll have the second Wheel. This scooters are pretty long, so it can fit a person in there. We have the position of our wheels, and after that we can draw the curve for a face wheel. I don't know how all the details of a scooter are called. As always you can find the drawing in the project section of the course. If you don't feel drawing it you can just outline through a window glass, or a light box. Here's the light, and steering wheel, how do you call it? Also it has this funny mirrors right here. Some line here. Don't you think I'm just drawing this fast, I had a light sketch, and now I'm outlining it with darker lines so you can see it. But I'm saying it in every class, your sketch should be really, really white just you can see it. Barely visible lines, but a whiter color. If you did a figure you can always erase it a little bit of the lines, so they won't be seen through. Here we have a seat, and here we'll have, I think you can put different style right here. A metal thing, and let's have a flowerpot. You can put different objects like a picnic basket, or maybe a present if you're drawing a birthday card. You could put a cat, or a dog in the basket, or anything you like. Let it be almost a flower, like somebody is moving somewhere, or just bought a flower this summer, and put it in the scooter. I do not have enough monasteries on Instagram, add another one. You can add any plant you like. Our wheels need few more details, the thickness of the wheel. This is illustrative style I'm drawing in. It's okay if the lines are crooked, that's even better, right there a little bit, whatever character. A little circle, we don't see the circle on this side, and then some triangles. If you're doing this illustration in ink, and water color, you can do this line to a fine layer, just make sure you're [inaudible] is waterproof. This is all our drawing we need, its pretty complex, so you can look at reference picture in the project section, and next we can start coloring. 4. Painting a Scooter part one: Okay, we have a drawing, so now I can start painting our own scooter. We have the plant in it. We'll start with the lightest colors and it's gray. I'm mixing some black with water and I'm adding a drop of blue shade because the scooter is going to be blue and I would like all the colors to match. You remember the rule from the basic mixing colors class. When we want all the colors to match the color palette, we would add a drop of one color to every color. If you didn't watch the class, you can watch it. I'll add the link somewhere and I think it's a useful trick to know. I added a little bit of blue to the mix of black and water. Now I'm just painting the silvery parts. Look's the dark now but whiter color is getting lighter once it dries. I think it's going to be all right. Then we have these parts of a wheel which are really light metal color. This has a short class I'm not getting into how to paint metal or any of those more complicated metals. This is a metal part too. This is gray also. You're going to leave some white highlights if you want to show this is a metal but you don't have to. It really can be only can be only gray and it'll look great. Okay, I think this is all the grays we have. This one. I'm going to this little light. Next let's mix a lot of blue with water. Ideally I could use a bigger, softer brush for draw bigger areas if you want or what it means in brushes are fine. You're going to buy only one brush. I suggest it should be a round Number 4 or Number 6 stable or a nice soft synthetic brush for water color. Number 4 or Number 6 will be enough for the beginning, especially if you are painting, you want to paint in illustrative style but if you want to paint more like landscapes, then you will need also a bigger softer brush. For bigger areas, for wet on wet. I'm just covering the main parts of scooter with a light blue because that's how I wanted it. You can use any color if you don't like blue. This is good, so while our scooter is drying let's paint our plant. It's going to be yellowish-green with a little bit of yellow for the lighter parts. We'll add some shadows wet don't wet with blue. While this is still wet, let's add a little bit of blue to the bottom and to the stem, maybe to this part a little bit too. This is good, so just let it dry and see the magic happen. Water color is always so beautiful when it dries on its own without being touched. Add the same thing with this leaf. Add some blue, right here. Now let's let it dry and next we'll be darker details, shadows and finishing touches. 5. Painting a Scooter part two: To add some shadows, sonars, Clojure, let's mix the blue with its complimentary orange. This is code-name orange, and we'll take more pigment in water than before and we'll add some shadows near the water, its too intense. A shadow here and bottom lines are always shadowed. Of course, the shadow here to show this part and one here. And little bit here. I wanted to load this sum, so it wouldn't be so sharp because it's rounded shape and here the same. Yes, this is better. Next let's mix some black, a little bit of blue, and some water. This dark details have to be dark gray rather than just flat black. This way they will look more water Corey or the picture will be more vibrant, lighter. It's good if your brush has a good sharp tip, it will always help you to paint the details precisely, and it really gives you more control. When you are buying a new brush make sure it has a good tip. That's one of the qualities of a good brush, especially in water color. Here is our second wheel, and while here drawing and we can get inside parts over wheels. Let's update this part and these parts which are also dark, but let's make them more gray then black probe which relies on good tone, more pigment. Don't worry, if your wash is not wrangler. That's somewhere, it's darker somewhere It's lighter and it makes it only a better and it shows the watercolor qualities. But water color field which is created beautiful. I'm going to say, I'm not going for precisely like straight or perfect lines. That's my style, I like it a little bit imperfect. But you can do it any way you like. If you like more precise lines, it's totally fine just make sure it reflects way you paint. Painting the details is like my favorite part of the illustration. We can play with them for hours and just for the sake, of length of class, we'll just do it faster. We will search still Web Summit, a shadow and some texture right here and on the handle. This is good and on this slide, you go and sell. Now what can paint our bot, which I would like to be code-name orange with a little bit of carbon grad. Again, if your orange seems too bright, you can add a little bit of blood cheered because it's a complimentary color of orange. Just painting a part one color I want to add this watershed, just in my case, just the ones. You can add, any pattern you like, you can use any col-our you like just turn, play and enjoy the process. I like it, so now this wheel is dry. What we'll do next we'll paint like this triangle's we've blue mixed some black so it'll be like grayish blue. Then I drive my arm brush and paper towel and absorbing Quoin, excessive water so it will dry faster and we can get to the big part, which will be also dark. Meanwhile lets paint the same thing here, and I guess, or somewhere here. Maybe I'll guess better. I think this part needs a shadow too and here I need little bit of water cartilage. Just good. Meanwhile, while all these parts are still wet, let's add few lines on our leaves. You can paint them as detailed as you want, you can change a plant, can be anything really and a little bit get more shadow here. Now I can get to this part, we just saw almost as dark. It is, as dark as the wheel or so you can use some highlights if you want. I wanted to mu then the illustrative like floods tall. However, I'm leaving a little bit of distance between triangles, and this is good. The same thing here, just be colorful this part is still a little bit wet and it can't just bleach because it's water coloring. The last details will be fine liner, so don't worry, you can always add more precision to your lines. Here we need a little bit of shadow and this is too light. This is better and. One more line here and which is left is this part and then we can get to our final details and then to finish our illustration. Make sure your fine-liner is waterproof if you're using one because when will touch with areas into one played. There are three lines here some details here. I'm not really an expert in squares port. It's always nice to add some details and at the same time, try not to exaggerate details. Just don't stop when you think it's enough. The meters in here. Our scouter cleaner, I think it's ready. 6.
