About This Class

In this class lesson you will learn how Fun & Easy it is to paint together at home with kids! This is a beginners class for all ages. You will learn to create beautiful flowers using an acrylic pour painting method that is really super easy to do!

You will learn how to pour paints onto a canvas in puddles inside one another and use only a straw and popsicle stick to create some really beautiful flowers.

NO paint brushes are used in this painting and no drawing. The popsicle stick is the only tool you use to make flower petals with and the straw is what you will use to shape your flowers  by blowing air out of it.

At the end we will show you how to add some special accent pieces of your choice. Whether you use seashell pieces or colorful gems or maybe even some glitter. Kids love spending time with you and this is one project you both will have a lot of fun doing!

Its really kind of magical!

Hope to see you in our class :)

  • Prep your work space and materials before you start
  • have all paints premixed and ready to use
  • have plenty of paper towel make sure to wear vinyl gloves for easy hand clean up

Try and use different color combinations that you like and you can try blowing out different shapes and sizes of flowers using your straw.

Please share your unique paintings in the project gallery and and any tips or tricks you may have learned!

SUPPLY LIST WITH LINKS

You can use any acrylic paints you may already have or I like to use Artists loft paints & supplies from Michaels Arts & Crafts or Dickblick blickrylic paints, some supplies can be purchased at the dollar store like plastic table cloth, paper towels, paper 2oz. dixie cups, plastic squirt bottles with lids for mixing paint , glitter or gems or at michaels arts & crafts & vinyl gloves, some links provided below:

  • Colored Acrylic Paint
  • White paint
  • Floetrol
  • 10x10 or 12x12 canvas
  • Paper Towels
  • Plastic disposable table cloth or wax paper (dollar store)
  • blue painters tape for taping back canvas wood bars only
  • popsicle or craft sticks
  • Vinyl gloves
  • Apron or old t-shirt (Optional)
  • straws
  • gems, seashell pieces or glitter

I do recommend putting a drop cloth on floor to protect floor from a spill. It’s usually not messy at all but just to be safe.

Colored Paint mixture:  ( For flowers)

  • (2) 2 oz. papers cups of floetrol
  • (1) 2 oz. papers cups full of colored acrylic paint
  • 1/2 of a 2 oz. paper cup of water

Mix & pour in a a solo plastic cup or in a 6 oz. squirt bottle and shake or stir.

* use this mixture formula for each color you do.

White paint mixture for background:

  • 1 cup floetrol
  • 1/2 cup white acrylic paint
  • 1/4 cup water
  • stir with popsicle stick or shake in a 10 oz.squirt bottle to mix

Pour & Mix in a red solo cup or 12 oz. squirt bottle to pour on white background

Directions: Use a 6oz. plastic squeeze squirt bottles for each colored paint and pour in floetrol, paint then water and cap off and shake well or stir if you use solo cups.

Lay down plastic table cloth on work surface and place canvas corners on top of 4 solo cups or 2oz. dixie cups inverted to lift canvas from table so that paint can drip down sides of canvas onto plastic table cloth or wax paper to be trashed when dry.

1. IntroductionPaint together at home with a child: what we're doing today. We're gonna paint a flower. We were strong in this class. You will learn everything on how to prepare your canvas and how to get ready for your project that you're gonna do together. We always do the backside first. Prepare it to keep it clean and put on some protective gloves like latex or vinyl. We prefer the vinyl and you'll learn how to make some beautiful flowers, nothing but a straw and some puddles of paint with few accents added at the end. Maybe some broken seashells or little pieces you could buy the craft store gems. You'll learn how to squeeze on the background. Um, this is where be when you blow the pain. It spreads because I have this nice layer on the back side, and then we spread it out, and then we pour paint, color puddles and the colors of your choice. Andi, it's so fun picking out your colors and doing it with a child, whether it's your daughter or grandchild. Once you pour on your paint, colors will show you how to take a Popsicle stick and separate the puddle into little sections. Andi, they're just amazed by it. It's so much fun, and we don't use paintbrushes. We just use a straw, and we blow out for our mouth on and into the pain and spread the pain around in the each section at a time, and it just makes some beautiful flowers. The hardy blow, the bigger your pedal, the larger your flower on. We'll be doing some accent leaves just drawn on with a Popsicle stick and the little gems or seashell pieces that you can buy it. A craft store. It's all gonna be in your supply list on how to do it and where to get things on. We'll show you just different text techniques for larger flowers or smalling of smaller flowers or different color choices. No. Two flowers are ever the same. There's all different shapes and sizes and colors, depending on what you do and your technique on, Let's get started. I think you're really gonna love this 2. Step 1 Prepare backside of canvas: what we're doing today. We're gonna paint a flower. We were strong. How do you do it As how you don't get a Massey on, uh, on the back of it, you put tape on it, so we're going to do that right now. Wait a second. Yeah, it's great. Can I do one? And then you do one? Yeah. Okay. Okay. This is my grandma. Say hi. Hi. I'm Nana. I called it manna. Let her name is really only Yeah. My name's Mike. Main Name whom? Lisa. But while she used to call me Nana lately, okay. And then she said, That's too long. Can I just call you Nana? Okay, that's sorry. So we on the run, roll the tape and we press it down. Yeah, Nanna's artist, so I'm not really ordered. She she's been teaching free stuff, so don't worry about it. Right? Anybody wake everybody all day, Okay. Can you cut that? Yes. Perfect. All right are like Barry. Jimmy, tape it down. And that what we gotta do now we have todo ed. Cut it again. We have to cut it again. We just need to mar strips of it. Okay, Dad wouldn't painting. What? It we're going to show you with strong. Okay, That's okay. What, are we painting with a straw again? Painting a flower. Oh, cool. Okay. Con work. Yeah. Just one more one Teoh with pain. Okay, okay. Very good. Now, cut it again, girl. Good. Okay. No, What's turn it? Do you? Okay, so now we have to paint it. Great. Yeah. So we're gonna move over to the painting table, and we'll be right back. 3. Step 2 Painting background white: Okay, we're back. So now we have to put gloves on because it's gonna be messy. One. We touched the pain. You want to keep our hands clean? Uh, yeah. We have the paper. Okay, so this is a bus. First time doing this technique. So she doesn't really know what we're gonna do yet. But she is a very brave girl, and he said, Let's just do it. So I said, OK? Yeah. Am I? I'm even fine. You know, even came to get a almost six. Yeah, that's what I'm So So we're gonna start with white. Yeah. White can never goods on. See that? Yeah. OK, so you go and shake it up. Know that to shake that mixes up the pain because that guy inside there is paint mixed with something called Flow Trouble. Yeah, trouble. Love it. Flow. Yeah, I never did this. That's enough. That's good. I'll take that little green cup. So now what we gotta do is cover the whole canvas with white pain. So, actually, so I'm gonna show you a trick first, and then you could help me Revenant. So what I dio is I go around the outside and squeeze. Okay? Because we wanted to drip kind of down sides. Yeah, and then we go zigzag in the middle. You want a zigzag in the middle for me? Yes, down over here. And we meet me some more when you can use my magic swipe, swipe. That's just a magnet. I cut in half. Yes, boy and a girl. She the artistic Well, so I'm gonna do one slight when you're gonna You're gonna watch. Okay. Okay. Okay. So what I'm trying to do is take the paint on the magar so cute and see him trying to discover a Paul Campbell. Yes, boys. Go cover. So here, your terry. Okay. So lightly. Now pull it towards you. Do, like, barely touched theory. That's right. Uh, well, on the corners to cover up can. Yeah. Maybe you over here, see how the campus is showing. We're just trying to get the canvas covered up. Perfect. And what I like to do is take a paper towel and then you just wipe this off here. Why don't you tell them about the colors you chose? What colors? You McConnell, little or red if you want. Do you want me to show your friends the one I did. Yeah. Well, stay OK. Ok, Okay. Here it iss all you want showing that 12 Okay. Showing that one first. My Nanna did this one first. Here, Let's hold it up to the camera. So they can really see. Let me do it for you. Yeah, that was fun. I chose pinks, reds and oranges. And I think you Yeah. Yellow. Yeah, I think. Yes, my little assistant. And this one? I did no brushes. Just a straw. That is what she's gonna do today. Or her own interpretation. War my own. Everybody's flowers look different. 4. Step 3 Painting 1st flower: What do we need? We need to start with purple. Her faux blue. So you put him in the order, You're gonna do it. Purple. Why? I thought you said you weren't gonna use. I'm gonna wear than years. They're gonna look like these. Do you want to try it without red? I'm not right there. So I wouldn't do that. You want to do the road, they need to do that. So Okay, boy drills. We need a straw, the straw, and then we're gonna need a Popsicle stick. Don't need him yet, so let's set them down over there. And the first step we're gonna do is we're gonna do a puddle. Um, maybe blue. Okay. Okay. Foursome on. You're gonna pour very little. Almost like the size of 1/4. Your quarter. Okay, that's a little hard. You can do it. You can do and said that down. Now. What color you want? Um, we could do purple. Okay? I don't pay quarter. Probably Nickel nickel is a new political like the biggest claim we have is 1/4. Then the next one is a nickel. Like the five cent piece. The next one is a penny and then a dime. So let's do a nickel now Inside there, right in the middle. Tell you when to stop. Looks good. Perfect. It looks like an egg on it. You can use now we're going to use, right? Okay. No, Penny Wendigo. We just did a nickel. So now a penny inside the penny size. Oh, great. Step that down with the next color. Okay, the next color is like Yes. Okay. We pull in like a little little little time. Yeah, one time. A little debt. Very little good. No, we have described it. And the way we spread it, What you have not been taught yet is you make pedals a little bit into the white, and you don't even barely touch the white softly. Bring it away into the center and then right off you're step. Yes, Morris, even try again from the white and away into the center. This is a video for my first time, that IHS since your 1st 1 So out to the white and then Paul it and I'm kind of so to the way. Yeah, Mike. And maybe from the light out here is that there's more white pain to grab from. There you go. Pull it into the center. Perfect. Outside. Get it clean. Yeah, Go into the light and get someone more pedal right here in the center. What do you think? Ready? What? You always have the white. That Because if you don't like that, I will get the red over here. Do you want another pedal? Yeah. Oh, great. Really. No, no more. We had to look like name is so we're gonna put yellow. Banana is gonna blow the 1st 1 since I'm teaching you how to do it. Yeah. So you want to blow from the center out, and you kind of keep it. You don't go like this and blow up, down you blow sideways. You blow. Kind of like that. You don't touch the pain. Ready? What? I mean, if you blow a little harder in the same spot and made a pedal retrial mine. Great. Keep blowing. So goes way up here, Wu sometimes what? I like to do this. Turn this. All right, get get. So to get it to go See how I got the blue. Then purple got into the white hot, but I kind of started up here a little farther away from the center much. And that brings the light Try. That is so pretty. Wow. Wood is pretty, pretty great flower, Eva, you want to do a different? 5. Step 4 Add more flowers and greenery: you want to do a different color? Yeah. Do. How about we just do, like purple and white or blue and wife. Okay, let's make quarter quarter now. What paper? Purple. Painful people, please. Both is improper doing me a nickel from thank perfect. Oh, now we got not green eggs and ham. We got purple eggs name from a purple eggs and far had to know it. Now we need blue for the penny. Perfect. Now, if you do white, you'll get all those little colors that you now we mean right red for, uh, dying. Read from die. A pretty color you can do anymore. Is that good? I think that's good, Carl. You know, boys, girls, no rivers. We'll do What? Okay, We, um because we didn't put the body for it. We I plus it, but I didn't know having people. Okay, so we don't We're not sure if you saw his blow this out because we were show you how to blow, but I don't think we turn it on you. Yeah, but maybe we did. Well, see, this is what we've done so far. Yeah, doesn't way we done. I I like, didn't like disinterest. Word around to the other flower. Yeah. You want below one more time. I don't actually have to do a leaf should turn it for you. Maybe. Maybe like this. You can lift it off. It's OK and turn. Do you like this? You can start from in there if you can teach. Yes, Painting can be messy. That's why we wear smocks. So you show me a painting Smoke old T shirt. A brand back up so that you see your apron. Just a little apron is actually man is a bring, but yeah, thanks. Okay. I want to do Yeah, damage that we have like so great. So I'll show you what I learned how to Dio Went up the green. Just great. Know much people like this. You kind of just give a little bit on here. Sure. And you kind of go You got monkey line and then you can do lead like I don't think I really do. Coming is up for today. What happens if you blow it? Oh, let's try blow on the leaf a little bit and see how it looks. Cool. Let me do the other one. Didn't make believe Okay, Freddie. Nice. Where else? You want one? Cool. Now you want to one more flour, mom, or leave, I think one more flour. OK. All right, Maybe there's green over here. Coming up here. 6. Step 5 accent pieces: Hello? Would you? Girls were back in on the project. The flowers, our own dime. Now on the painting. See how we put in some white? All right. Right here. You put more whites, you can put in some shells already. Yeah, we did. So we can remove this over for you now. We could put some shell, make sure you have tweezers. Yeah, like tweener. Okay, this will take a long time. Guys, Do you think you could do without there? Is it fun? Fun and do the trick? Because then I'm the white stuff. Doesn't get on your hands. Italy. I really like your flowers. Okay. The colors you chose. Very creative. This one looks like a tie dye flower. So pretty. Okay, come on. So how about we stop the video? You keep putting them on, and then we'll show him what it looks like when it's done. Okay, okay, guys, we're gonna and the radio, but we're gonna come back, but it's gonna take a long time, because I'm gonna finish all of these by myself. Maybe season she's by. Okay, guys, this is the end of the video. Will make more videos. You see all of the painting else. Wielder dio by season 7. Conclusion review: I really hope you had a good time painting with your kids. We had so much fun painting together and showing you are different techniques. I tell you, it's so easy to do all these different techniques with this puddle. Poor method in a straw, whether you're blowing large flowers, small flowers, you know, adding some pretty accents or not. I encourage you guys to just keep painting paint together. Let them come up with their own colors and styles and techniques that they learn on their own kids air so innovative and creative. I just love that she had so much fun painting us with me. Keep painting, try different colors and please share with us. We love to see in our project gallery paintings that they've done even in progress. What you have done together, you really love it, which I know you will you know, put it in a little frame, hang on their sign your name to it once it dries, really having some more videos that will be posting real soon. Happy painting
