1. Introduction : Hi everyone. I'm Tamer. I'm a motion designer and commercial actor
based in the UK. I've been working as a motion
designer for five years. I graduated with a degree in computer animation and
communication arts. Being a commercial actor
for six years now, and working with
different directors and producers have taught
me that planning, planning, and planning is key
to a well-crafted project. This helped me acquire
a lot of techniques and creative perspectives that I can apply to my work as
a motion designer. In this class, you
will learn how to handle explain your
video project. By short animated
explainer videos are used to show how a product, service, or business works. You will start by visualizing your animation using a
visual script David. You will be learning how to
build a strong foundation for your work by storyboarding your idea and
creating an animate. You really create
design boards to show the client what the final
piece will look like. Finally, you will add
the play from animation. I will walk you step-by-step
from the moment we get the script from the client
to the final animation. I highly recommend that you have a good foundation in animation and design and constable
we'll using Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects. By the end of this class, you will have a
well-crafted animated piece ready for your portfolio. Let's get started.
2. Class Project: In this lesson, I'm going to talk about the class project. To get hired to work in
motion design project, you need a client
in the first place, and that's what I
created for you. A hypothetical client
called HunterGoes. It's a delivery app that can deliver anything
you can think of. The client's goal is to drive people to download their app. They need a 22nd explainer video to show people their service. The video will lump
all over the web, and the project and
resources you can find the client's brand
guideline along with a script that
we'll be working on. In the upcoming lessons, I'll be showing you how I
handle the production process step-by-step until we
reach the final animation. From how we turned the
script into a visual script, sketching storyboard,
and doing animatic, crafting design boats, making
a board thematic sequence, and finally, adding
a playful animation. I will also be showing
you how to use platforms for inspiration,
like Pinterest. In the project description, I've made a roadmap for
you so you can follow and post your work in progress while you are
watching the lessons. I will be guiding you through any challenges you might face. You don't have to mimic every
creative decision I make. You can have your own ideas, design, and animation. You can use my
artwork if you are not into designing your own, you can find all the assets
in the resources section. By the end of this class, you will have a strong
foundation on how to handle a motion design
project from scratch. You can apply this workflow to any motion design
project scale.
3. Visual Script : In this lesson, I'll be
taking the first step into dissecting the script and the brand guideline
declined provided. Okay, here I have a
HunterGoes-Brand Guideline. You can download it from
the resources panel. Let's open the file. Here I have the brand guideline, the logo illustration
file, and the voice-over. Let's open the PDF. Okay, here I have the
main logo of the brand. It consists of two parts, the word mark and
the brand mark. They can't be
separated whatsoever. Okay. Here I have
the logo variations. I can't use the logo
on a background, different than these
three color options. Here I have the color palette, the primary colors, and the secondary colors, and the Arial Rounded font. Here I have this script. This script that we will be
working on this project, HunterGoes is the newest and coolest online
delivery platform. We can pick and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more. Whatever you need,
whenever you need, download the app now
and enjoy ordering. HunterGoes, We got you. Okay, after checking the brand
guideline and the script, our challenge here is to
transform this script into a storyboard and after
that, do the animation. But before that, we must
take a few steps to build a strong
foundation for our work. We will start by doing
a quick visual script. Visual script helps us get
the ideas out of our head and how we are visualizing
every sentence in the script. Okay, here I have a table
I've made on pages app. On the left I have
the voice-over and on the right I
have the visuals. What I'm going to
do now is copy and paste the script under
the voice-over section. Let's select all the script, command C and
command V to paste. Okay, here I have the script. I will make the text smaller. Let's have some distance
between these two sentences. Again, what I'm going to do now is visualize every
sentence in this script. I don't have to worry
about the details. It is just a way to get
the ideas out of my head. Okay, let's start. HunterGoes is the newest and coolest
online delivery platform. What I'm visualizing
here is a side view, a street scene and a
delivery car passing by, then a smartphone goes up
from behind the vehicle. Let's say a side view
of a delivery car, passing down the road. Then a smartphone goes up
from behind the vehicle. Okay. We can pick and drop
off anything for you. Here I can show some delivery boxes falling
onto the top of the car. Let's say boxes
start to fall onto the top of the car with
the close up camera shut. From food, electronics,
groceries, books, and many more. Okay, here I can have icons representing these services
popping up around the boxes. Icons pop up around the boxes. Whatever you need,
whenever you need. Here I can animate these
two lines in a playful way. Okay, let's say animated
text in a playful way. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Here I can transition
to the smartphone, showing the app
with the download, the app text on the side. Let's say a smartphone
showing the app pops up on the left
side with the text, "Download the app on the
right" Okay, HunterGoes. We got you. Slide
the transition to the brand logo with the
tagline underneath it. We're done. Remember that you can come up with
your own visuals. Try not to make it
over complicated. You can focus on the workflow
and enjoy the process. Make sure to post your work in the project panel. See
you in the next lesson.
4. Get Inspired: In this lesson, I'm
going to show you how to use Pinterest for
design purposes. It's a great platform for gathering and
organizing inspiration. If you already use Pinterest and familiar with this topic, feel free to skip this lesson. We open Pinterest website and we get this registration form. Let's sign up for an account. Write email address, create a password, and your age. Press "Continue". Now we have a few steps
we need to take next. Here we can pick five topics
you are interested in. I'm going to pick
design-related topics and click "Done". Here you can scan the code from your phone so
you can download the app. I don't need it at the moment. Now, Pinterest is building a page for all the
topics that I picked. Now let's say I like this
design and I need to save it. All I have to do is go
over it and click "Save". Now I have it on my profile. Let's go and check. This
is the image that I saved. All my saved things
will go here. To make things more organized, we can create boards. You can click on this plus
sign and click "Board". I will name the
board illustrations. You can check this mark here if you want your board
to be secret. Click "Create". Now I get some suggestions
that I can save. I like this one. Done. Let's get back to my profile. Now you can see my
illustrations board. Let's see how we can save
more images to this board. Press this Pinterest icon
to go to the homepage. I will search for car
stylized illustration. I like this one. I'll click on this arrow and safe to
illustration board. Now we have the image saved
to my illustration board. Now, what if I want to save an image outside
Pinterest ecosystem. I will show you how if
you're using Chrome, open a new tab, go to apps Web Store, and I will search for Pinterest. Click on the Pinterest
save button, add to Chrome add extension. Click on this extension icon
and turn on the pin button. Now let's say I
like this image on Shutterstock and I need to save it on my
illustration board. The one I created on Pinterest, all I need to do is go over the image and save to
illustration board. If I come back over here, we can find the car saved
in my illustration board. Basically, that's all you
need to know about Pinterest. It's a great tool to gather
and organize inspiration. See you in the next lesson.
5. Moodboard & Treatment: Now that I've put together my thoughts for this spot
using visual script, in this lesson, I'm going to gather some inspiration
for my piece. The clients didn't show us
anything but the script, so it's our job now to visualize
their thoughts and ours. That's when moodboard
comes in handy. By spending some time gathering references
and inspiration, you will be able to see your objectives and
ultimately your final design. Here's my gathered pins
for the moodboard. It's an illustration
based design. I like here the side view of the bus with the
minimal background in terms of design and color value. Look how neat is the font
here and the nice contrast in colors. Let's see. I think this is a cool
stylized delivery car. This is how I'm visualizing the icons here that's going
to pop up around the bus. This is in general my
references for this piece. I'll be showing you now
how am I going to create my moodboard using these
pins in Photoshop. Now I'm in Photoshop. As you can see here
I created a bunch of boxes to make my life easier when I start
puzzling my references. I will show you how in a bit. You can tweak it as you want or create your own
moodboard design. I uploaded this moodboard
template for you. You can find it on
the Resources panel. Here's the brand's
color palette. I think I might use some
of them in this moodboard. I will start getting some of
these images from Pinterest. I have all the images, now. I will start rearranging them and see how they
will fit together. First, I'm going to convert every image to
smart object so you can resize the image
as much as you want without causing any degradation
or loss of quality. I'm going to use the
clipping mask to position these images
inside the boxes. This is Layer 02. I will drag this image and
put it above the Layer 02. I can press "Command"
and click to make clipping mask or
right-click, clipping mask. What clipping mask does
here is that the box defines or controls the visible
boundaries of the image. I'm going to apply
the same method to the rest of the images. I'm going to insert
some brand colors to the moodboard so it feels more related to HunterGo's type. I'm going to add a shape
layer above all the images. I will multiply and I will
make the opacity 15 percent. This is just a way to
make the board comes together and makes more
related to the brand identity. Now that we're done with
crafting the moodboard, let's move on to the next
step and write up treatment. Treatment is the type
of document that provides a basic
outline of an idea. It's usually short and it allows the client or the reader to understand what the
video will be about. I will start writing
the treatment now. The scene starts with a delivery car passing
down the road. A smartphone showing the app appears from behind the vehicle. The smartphone goes down and the camera zooms in
to the top of the car, and then delivery boxes
start to fall into it. Icons pop up around the boxes
in a semicircular shape. The car leaves the frame, and then animated text appears, whatever you need,
whenever you need, in a playful way. The text goes down
and leaves the frame. The smartphone pops
up and the text, download the app, enters the frame
from the right side. Slide transition to
a HunterGo's logo with the tagline we
got you underneath it. I've got my moodboard and
wrote up my treatment. Now we can move on
to the next lesson.
6. Sketching Storyboard : I'm done with my concept. In this lesson I will move up the ladder where I will show my client what I'm thinking visually for this
piece using animatic. What is animatic Animatic
is an animated storyboard, or in other words, it's a slideshow of images
portraying movements. In order to create an animatic, we first need to
make a storyboard. That storyboard
images are then cut together to make a
rough draft animation. This method gives
the maker an idea of what the final
animation will look like. I don't need you here to worry
about your drawing skills. Me personally I'm not
a drawing artist, it's just a way to see
how the story will flow. I've got here my
storyboard template. You can download it from the Resources panel
if you like to. You can scan it and
use it for sketching. I'm done sketching
the storyboard. What I need to do now is scan my storyboard papers and
import them into Photoshop, so I can cut the
images separately. You can use CamScanner app. This app allows you
to scan documents and share the images
as JPEG or PDF. Or you can use your
smartphone to capture your storyboard papers,
whatever works for you. Now I have the scanned
images on Photoshop. I need to start cropping and separating each box
in their own frames. I will start cropping
the first image. Right-click, Rasterize, to convert it to pixels
so I can start cropping. I'll choose Polygonal tool
or press L on keyboard. Make selection. Command C to copy and Shift command V to paste it
in the same location. You can use as well
the rectangular tool or M on keyboard to
make your selection. I'm going to fast
forward this process since it's a
straightforward work. I'm done cropping every
frame from the storyboard, now I need to fit every
image to the composition. But before that, I
need to convert, again the images to Smart Object to maintain their quality when
enlarging them. You can retrace your scanned
images if you think they are unclear and need some
retouching to look more neat. I would retrace some
of the images now. Make sure to rasterize your images to be
able to draw on them. You can use the Rotate View
tool or Add on keyboard. To rotate the view so you can be more comfortable
tracing your images. I will use the Brush tool
or press B on keyboard. Make sure once you
finish every image to convert it again
to Smart Object. I don't think I like
the clouds here, so I will remove
them from the scene. One more thing to do, I need to change the text and make it more legible and neat. I'm going to use the
Type tool or press T on keyboard to create a text. I will change the logo as well. This is some tweaks
I'm doing to make the animatic more decent when
sending it to the client. I'm done with the frames now, in the next lesson I'm
going to do the animatic.
7. Cutting Animatic 01: When it comes to video editing, Adobe Premiere Pro is the
best tool we can use. It's an easy software,
especially for beginners so don't worry if
you haven't used it before. In this lesson, I'm
going to show you how to cut an
animatic and seeing the provided V0 with the visuals using this
editing software. Here I have the
separated frames. Now I need to export them so
I can use them for editing. Export. We choose the location and here they are. We open Adobe Premiere Pro. Click "New Project." Name the project,
it goes animatic. Choose location
and press "Okay". Once you open Premiere Pro, you should see this
editing workspace. If not, you can go to
Windows, Workspace, editing. Here's the project
panel where we will have all our assets that
we will be working on. Double-click to
import my images. Drag and press "Import". Now I have all the images
in my project panel. I will create a new
folder so I can have all the frames
in one folder. Now I'm going to
select all my frames and drag them to the timeline. Now I have all my
frames in order. I'm going to check
the frame rate. I'm going to leave it at
25 frames per second. By using the selection
tool or V on keyboard, I can click and drag the frames. By turning on the Snap tool, then timeline or S on keyboard, you can make two frames snap. You can zoom in and out the timeline by dragging this slide bar or by pressing the minus or
plus key on keyboard. I can drag this up
and down to enlarge the video timeline so I
can see the thumbnails. Here we have the audio
track and the video track. Audio files can only
go to the audio track and video files go
to video tracks. Now I'm going to import
the audio assets, the voice-over and
the music track. Double-click on the
file so I can see the source on the above panel. Double-click on the links close
all my delivery platform. We can pick up and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more, whatever you need,
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Country Gross, we got you. I'm going to crop out the areas that I don't
need from the voice-over. I'm going to drag this
cursor on the timeline over here and click "Mark in" or I keyboard and go over here and click "Mark out"
or O on keyboard. Now I press this icon, Overwrite, and I have the
voice-over on the audio track. I'm going to drag and
drop the music as well. As I said before,
you can drag and move the assets using
the selection tool. Sometimes I find it more efficient to use the
Rolling Edit tool. This tool allows you to grab
the edit points between two clips so you can click
and drag wherever you want. Now I'm going to start to sync my voice-over to the
images that I have. First, I'm going to
mute the music track by pressing this M letter. I think I have some problems
in the first three frames. I'm going to shuffle them. [inaudible] Is the newest and coolest
online delivery platform. We can pick and drop
off anything for you. From food platform,
we can pick up. One thing I forgot to do at the beginning is to
select all my frames when I imported them into the sequence and scale
them to frame size. So I can select all my frames, right-click, scale
to frame size. But I think I have some
issues with my frames. If you can see this black
stroke around the frames, I think this is from the
cropping thing in Photoshop. But that's not a problem, I can fix it later manually.
8. Cutting Animatic 02: We can pick and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books and many more. Whatever you need
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Hunter Goes, we got you. Now, that I'm done syncing my visuals or my frames
to the voice-over, now I'm going to do some mixing between the voice-over and
the music track that we have. First, I'm going to
unmute the music track. I'm going to go to audio and use
this mixer, I think. Each layer has the specific, let's say, volume in this mixer. Let's say my
voice-over is on A2, so we can play around
with A2 on the mixer. Now it's trial and error thing. I'm going to test and
repeat several times to get the best outcome
for my audio. Hunter Goes is the newest and coolest online
delivery platform. We can pick and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more. Whatever you need,
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Hunter Goes, we got you. [MUSIC] [NOISE] I think I should lower the volume a little
bit for the music. Hunter Goes is the newest and coolest online
delivery platform. We can pick and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more. Whatever you need
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Hunter Goes, we got you. My main objective here is that I want the voice-over
to be enough clear. Hunter Goes is the newest and coolest online
delivery platform. We can pick and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries, books, and many more. Whatever you need
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Hunter Goes, we got you. [MUSIC] Here I want to extend
this frame a little bit. We got you. Hunter Goes is the newest and coolest
online delivery platform. We can pick and drop [inaudible]. Here I can select razor tool or C on keyboard
to cut my music track. Now what I'm going to do is make my music track to
fade out at the end. I'm going to make this larger, press this key and go
to Track Frames volume. I create this key and
another one at the end. Now my music track fades
out a lot smoother. Hunter Goes is the newest and coolest online
delivery platform. We can pick and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more. Whatever you need
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Hunter Goes, we got you. [NOISE] Now I'm going to fix the
scaling of the frames. I can fix it by clicking on the frame or the imagery
that I want to scale it to fit the composition size and go to editing effect controls. I can play with the scale so
it can fit the composition. I'm going to apply
the same method to the rest of the frames. I'm done with the
editing my animatic. Now, I'm going to export. Let's go to File Export Media. I'm going to choose the format H264 with high
bitrate and choose the location and click Export. Hunter Goes is the newest and coolest online my
delivery platform. We can pick up and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more. Whatever you need
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. Hunter Goes, we got you. This is my rough representation
of the animated visuals. It is meant to give
a sense of timing and pacing of the video
so the client can have a clear vision of
where this piece is going before we start
designing and animating.
9. Design Boards 01: In this lesson, I'm
going to jump into Illustrator and start designing the frames that I did in the previous lessons
and it shows the direction that
I want to go with. Now I'm in Illustrator, I'm going to jump into the brands guideline and
take some assets from there. I'm going to get
the color palette because I'm going to use
it when I'm designing. I'm going to get the
logo of the brand. I'll get the few variations, so I have the three
options. Copy and paste. This is an artwork I
got from Shutterstock. I'm going to use some
other designs inside of them in my design boards. I'm going to open this one, and I'm going to
use the background, this building, so
I'm going to use it on my design boards. I'm going to copy and paste, scale it up and change its color
to yellow maybe. I'm going to change the
opacity to 50 percent. I think 50 percent
percent is good. Now I'm going to create a background using
the rectangular tool. Let's change it to this color and right-click arrange
and send it to back. I think I'm going to make
the buildings much lower, so I'm going to use
the direct tool, or we can press A on keyboard and select all the
vertices of this artwork. I think I should lock
the background first. I'll click the background and go to object lock selection. Now I have the
background locked, now I can use the direct tool
and select all the vertices for this artwork and
I will make it lower. Now I'm going to create this simple pavement by using the rectangular tool or you can press M on keyboard. I'm going to change
the color to this. Now I'm going to change the
opacity as well, 80 percent. Now I'm going to
create a lane lines on the road by using the
rectangular tool as well. I'm going to change
the color like gray. I'm going to change the opacity
to let's say 80 percent. I think I'm going to leave
it a 100 percent for the opacity and I'll make
it a little bit darker. I think I'm going to lower
the opacity a little bit. Fifty percent is going fine. Maybe. I think it's good. I'm going to use
the direct tool, make it a little shorter. Now, I'm going to duplicate by pressing, "Option" and hold. I'm going to get the tree from the artwork I got
from the Shutterstock. I'm going to lock all the
layers so I can work on the tree without
any interruption or clicking anything
from the background. But I think I'm going to
delete this, I don't need it. I think this is much better
because I need the tree to look flat as all my artwork, so I'll change the
color to green. I'm going to change the
color of the trunk, maybe by using the orange
color and make it more brown. Now I'm going to group the
whole tree by selecting both the trunk and the
above part and press, "Control G." Now I'm going to duplicate the tree as well and make some
variations in the scale. I'm going to unlock
all the objects on this artboard
and I'm going to duplicate the whole artboard by using the art board tool or pressing "Shift
O" on keyboard. I press "Option" and hold
and drag the artboard. Now, I'm creating
a new artboards for the rest of the scenes.
10. Design Boards 02: Now I'm going to lock all the selections and
I'm going to add the car now. I'm going to open, not this car. I'm going to open another
Shutterstock artwork. Open this one. I'm going to ungroup
the whole artwork by pressing, "Command Control G". I'm going to select all
the car, copy and paste. I would position it
inside my scene. I'm going to delete the
design. I don't need it. I'm going to delete this thing
behind the wheels as well. I'm going to change
the body color. Now I'm going to create a
roof rack on the top of the car using the
rectangular tool. Now I'm going to brand it
by adding the logo on it. Now, I'm going to
jump to the 13 by adding the smartphone
above the vehicle. I'm going to select the
objects and lock selection, or by pressing "Command
D" on keyboard. Now I'm going to open the phone artwork I got from Shutterstock and
tweak it to fit my, let's say design direction. Now I'm going to apply some changes to the
colors and shapes. I'm always using the color
palette to color my artwork. Now I'm going to add text
by using the Text Tool, hold your button. Align it. I'm going to use the clients
font, Arial grounded. I'm going to align it again. I think I want to
change the text color to little bit lighter. Yes. Let me try this one. I think I'm done
with the phone now. One thing here, I
want to change it is the background or the
sky color and the road. I think they look the same. I want to make the color of the road different than
the color of the sky. I have the road
separate from the sky. Make it dimmer. Now there's a difference
between the road and the sky color. I think this is fine. I'm going to apply
the same thing for the rest of the art boards.
11. Design Boards 03: Before I continue, I'm going
to reposition the roof rack. Just move it a little bit
lower and to the left. Now, moving to the 4th scene, I will duplicate the car. In this scene, I just need
the upper part of the car, so I will crop it by creating a rectangle
above the vehicle. Select them both. Then go to object,
clipping mask. Mask. Let's duplicate this
solid background. Let's duplicate this artboard. Now I'm going to create
the delivery boxes using basic shapes. Copy to create another shot. Now let's create the icons. Apply colors using the
eyedropper or press I on keyboard to select colors
from the palette above. I will group them. Control G. Now I'll get the icon stocks
I got from Shutterstock. You change the colors to white. Cool. Now I'm going
to duplicate to have the four consecutive shots. Add text using the text tool. Change the font
to Arial-Rounded. I'm going to duplicate the font so I can use it in this frame. Add text. Now the final one. I'll get the logo. Center it. Add the tagline. I'm done. Now it's time to
export my design boards. I'll go to File, Export, Export As, choose the location. Make sure the format is PNG. Check artboards and check all. Now click "Export". All the settings are
fine. Press "Okay". Here I have my design boards. So I'm done with designing the entire sequence
for this piece. In the next lesson, I'm
going to do the biodynamic.
12. Boardimatic : Boardimatic is not
to show the client the final design frames, timing, and the pacing of the video, but also saves us
a ton of work if the client happens to have
any edits on the design. Once we look the design phase, we can then jump into
doing the animation. Go to File, Save As, and I will name it HunterGoes
board instead of animatic. Click "Save". Now I'm going
to import my design boards. Drag to the sequence and select all the frames and right "Scale to Frame Size". By using the rolling edit tool, I will start aligning my design
boards to the voice-over. As you can see here, I'm using these sketching boards
below as a reference. [MUSIC] HunterGoes is the newest and coolest online
delivery platform. We can pick up and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more. Whatever you need,
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. HunterGoes, we got you. [MUSIC] Now I need to export
file. Export, Media. Choose the location and save. [MUSIC] HunterGoes is the newest and coolest online
delivery platform. We can pick and drop off
anything for you from food, electronics, groceries,
books, and many more. Whatever you need,
whenever you need. Download the app now
and enjoy ordering. HunterGoes, we got you. [MUSIC] I'm done with the
boardimatic and ready to move on to
the next lesson. Be sure to follow the
roadmap that I've put in the project
description and post your work in
progress so you can get feedback and
inspire other students.
13. Get Organized : I'm a few steps away from opening After Effects
and start animating. But before doing that, I have to do some
folder structuring to organize all the things
that I've done so far. It's a good habit to organize every project you are
working on so that you have all your assets
named and filed in a specific location so
you don't miss anything you might use later or
especially if you want to hand the project to another
animator or video editor. I'll usually use both taste
tool to organize my projects. It's a free project
management tool that allows you to set up a folder
templates for your project. Let's check it out. Here I have both taste management tool. I'll start naming my
project template. Project number 1. Client HunterGoes, project
name, explainer video. Put the date and the
name of the creator. Now I can go to templates
to create my own template. I'm going to choose
motion graphics template. I'm going to delete all of these and I'm going to create
it from scratch. I'm going to make a new folder, I'll name it assets. I'm going to create a new subfolder inside assets
and name it, Animatic. A new subfolder. More thematic and
a new one audio and one for stock images. Let me create a new subfolder
inside Animatic and call it Footage. Another one, PSD. Another one Frames. Now inside audio, I'm going to create
VoiceOver and Music. Now, inside board,
I'm going to create a sub folder called
illustration file or AI. Design frame sub-folder. Now I'm going to create a
new folder called the Brand. Inside Brand, name
this guideline and script subfolder. A new folder it's
name it Concept. Inside Concept, I have
MoodBoard&Treatment. Another sub-folder
for visual script. For the four project files. Inside it, I'm going to put the After Effects files and
subfolder for premiere files. Now I have all the
folders that I need. Now can I create a project. Choose a location to save it. Here we go. That's it basically
for the folder structuring and organizing.
See you in the next lesson.
14. Prepare Your Artwork : I've got my assets organized, now I will jump into
Illustrator and procure the artwork that I'm going
to use inside After Effects. Now what I'm going to do is put all the artwork that I'm
going to use inside After Effects in one artboard so I can import them
to After Effects. In Artboard 3, I have the car, the phone, and the
background assets. I'm going to import
that artboard. In Artboard 11, I have the
boxes and the four icons. I'm going to import
that artboard too. I don't have to worry
about the text since I can create it
inside After Effects. I go to File, Save As our limit 03 since it's
Artboard 3, let's check. Save each artboard separate
file and choose Range 3. Now I'm going to Save As, name this one 11, so it's Artboard 11. Save each artboard to a
separate file and Range 11. Now I have the two artboards. I'll start by creating a new layer and have the
smartphone in separate layer. New layer for the
car. Greg and drop. Now I want to expand the artboard of the
street so I can have enough space to move the background while animating
it inside After Effects. If it's confusing you now, you will know what
I mean when we get inside After Effects. I will rearrange the
elements accordingly. I will name this layer street. Now let's open the
second artboard. I'll start putting each
element in separately. Delete the car I don t
need it in this artboard. Cool. Now I have all my
elements in separate layers. I will rename the AI's. If you've used your
own storyboard, you can use the same
process as I did. In the next lesson,
I'm going to import the artwork into After
Effects and start animating.
15. Animate First Scene: Finally, we've reached the
phase where we will hop into After Effects and start keyframing and
animating. Let's start. I'm in After Effects, finally. Just before I proceed, as you can see now I switched
to Windows since I had some issues with my Mac while
I was recording the class. I'll start by
importing my artwork. Make sure the import
kind is composition and the footage dimension is layer size not document size. I will import the
color palette as well and the broad thematic
footage for reference. Now I'm going to do
some organizing, make AI new folder to put all
the AIs I have inside it. Another one for comps and another for footages. Now I go to composition, new comp dimensions 1920
1080 and frame rate 30. I'm going to name the comp main. I'll drag and drop
the board thematic to the timeline and trim
comp to work area. Now, let's drag and drop
these street background. Turn off the border
thematic layer. Now by clicking on street
background and pressing P, I got the position. By dragging the position X, I can move the street
left and right. Now I will get the car AI and make sure to turn on the
collapse transformation. By short, the collapse
transformation retains the quality of the AI
artwork one scaling it up. I'll start by adding a
subtle movement to the car, like a little bouncing as if it's really moving
down the road. I will pre-comp the car
layer and name it car. Let's expand the
dimension a little bit. Now I'm going to split
the car into two parts, the upper body part and the wheels part by masking
it using the pen tool. I'll name it body. Duplicate the layer and invert the mask and I will
name it wheels. Now let's add some bouncing
to the upper body. Create a key, move the timeline, and drag the body
a little bit down. Keep the initial key and drag the timeline and paste and
offline for easy ease. Let's make it a little bit fast. By selecting all the keys, let's Option and hold and drag
the keys closer together. Now I'm going to
loop this movement. Go over the clock here, press and hold Option
key and click and I will type this simple
expression loop out. Now let's get the
background moving. Make a key at the beginning. Move the timeline and drag
the layer to the left. Now I will get the
car out of the frame, make a key and move
it to the right. Drag the car out
of the frame and the new key has been
created automatically. I will make the ease-out
smoother by going to the graph editor and
use the speed graph. Let's turn on the
board thematic to see when the phone will appear. Here I will add a mark. I will drag and drop the
phone inside the car comp. Let's expand the dimension
height a little. Create a position key and
move it to the right. Drag the phone down behind
the car and easy ease. I will make the
ease out smoother. Now I'm going to hide
the phone using mask. Let's create a shape layer. Name it mask and apply Alpha inverted
matte to default layer. I have an issue here. It's from the masking, I think. Let's check our next transition. I'll add another marker here. The phone goes down here, create a key and drag the timeline and
move the phone down. Now, I'll make the
easy in smoother. The road animation
shouldn't stop here, so I'm going to
extend it a little. I will make it fall earlier.
16. Animate Falling Boxes: Now I'm going to do the zoom-in thing into the top of the car. Let's go to Layer, New, Null object and I will make the null parent to
these two layers, the car and the road, by using the parent pick width. Let's make two keys, one on the scale and the
other on position. Move the timeline to
the right and scale it up and adjust the position
of the car to the center. Let's make it slower. Now I'm going to get
rid of the buildings, I'll go to position, right-click "Separate
Dimensions", so I have more control
over the X and Y position. Okay, I'll make y
position key here. Move the timeline and
drag down the buildings and make it aligned
with the above keys. Now I can split the layer, I don't need it anymore and I'll make a new solid
layer and choose the same color of this
layer using the eye drop. [NOISE] I could have made the buildings on separate
layer in Illustrator, but that's fine for now. Let's see the next move.
I'll add a marker. Let's go inside the car comp, and I'm going to
import the boxes. Let's reposition them. I think the size is good now. Now I need to change
the anchor point and put it at the bottom for each box since I need to apply
squash and stretch motion. Now I select the three
layers and bind them to the body layer so
the boxes can follow the bouncing
movement of the car. Let's create a key position, move them to the right
and drag the box upward. Let's apply now some
squash and stretch effect. Now copy and paste the scaling keys to the
rest of the layers, you can press "U" to reveal all the keys you
have in the layer. [NOISE] I have a weird gap between these two boxes, let's fix it.
17. Icons Animation: Let's see when the icons
will start to appear. I'll add a new marker here. I'll get now the coins
from the project panel. Let's reposition them. Select them all and right-click pre-comp and I will
name it icons. Select all the layers
and press "S". Create a key and move them to the right and now we zoom out. Now, let's move the timeline to the right and make another key. Now I select these keys and scale them up to make overshoot. Overshoot is to go
past the scale. It's meant to go through
and then it pulls back. Select all the
layers and ys, ys. Now let's create a secondary
animation for the icons. Go to Pen tool and
make it stroke and drag its anchor
point to the bottom. Now I go to anchor point under Transform and drag
the y position up. Now let's add a trim path. Animate the line using
the end and start keys. Now duplicate the
layer and change the rotation to 90 and
duplicate with rotation 180, another one with rotation 270. Cool. Let's select
all the layers and make pre-comp and
name it effect. Now I'm going to position
the effect at the center of each icon and change its color according
to the icon's color. Go to Effect and choose "Fill". Use eyedropper to select
the icon's color. I'm going to apply
this same thing to the rest of the icons. Now I'm going to make the
icons pop up consecutively. Let's check the bodymatic for reference and add some markers.
18. Text Animation: Now, moving on to the
next scene, let's see. Here the text should appear. Now, let's get the icons and the top of the car
out of the frame. I will make the icons
comp a child to the null. Make a composition and
drag the null to the left. I will make it ease
then smoother. Now I will create a text using the Type tool,
whatever you need. I will make sure the
font is Arial Rounded. Duplicate, "Whenever you need." Let's get the color palette and change the color
of the second one. Now let's pre-comp
the first type. Now I have two
approaches I can take to animate these three words. I can use the decompose text, it's a paid plugin I got from AE Script and
it's super efficient. You can decompose the text by character words or
lines by one click. By selecting my type layer, I can choose characters
and click "Decompose". The three words now are decomposed into
separate characters. Now, I have control
over each letter. I will show you
the other approach when working with
the next color. It's a bit time-consuming
yet alternative way if you don't acquire the
decomposed text plugin. Okay. Let's select
all the letters and create a key position and
move them to the right, drag the Y position a little. I'll create keys between
the two for overshoot. Let's select all and easy
is. All right, cool. Now let's be pre-comp
the next type and now I'm going to
decompose it manually. First, I count how many letters
I have in this sentence. I have 15. I will duplicate
the layer 15 times. I take every letter
from each layer, so eventually I have every
letter on separately. It's a little bit hectic, but it's the way
if you don't have the decomposed text
plugin. All right. Let's undo and use the plugin I have and mimic the steps I did for the previous slide. All right, cool. Let's select both the text pre-comps and separate their
position dimensions. I will make a Y position key, move the timeline
to the right and do an anticipation
before falling down.
19. Transition After Text: Let's get the phone now, and apply a scaling animation, he's out using the speed graph. Now I'm going to add the
text, "download the app." Apply position animation on it, and some ease out one-third.
20. Logo And Tagline: Let's get into the final scene. Create a new solid layer, eyedropper for
choosing the color I want from the palette. Pre comp the layer, and I'm going to
get the logo and drop it on the solid layer. Adjust the scale. Now I go to the main comp and make a position key and
move it to the right. Then drag the layer
out of the frame. Let's add the
tagline we got you. All right, cool.
21. Add Some Spices: I'm done with my animation. Now I want to add
some extra paths or polish that can bring the
whole piece together. I'll start by adding a vignette. Vignette is a simple
way to give the piece a sense of depth and focus
the viewer's attention. I will create a new
adjustment layer. Name vignette. Go to Effects and Presets and
search for Exposure. Now I can play around with
the exposure intensity level. Now I add mask. Check inverted, and increment the
mask feather number until we have a smooth edge. Now I'm going to add
some noise and grain. Let's add noise effect to the adjustment layer and make the noise amount
maybe like five. Noise effect is a way to make the render looks less
perfect and digital. A little bit of grain can add a nice touch to the whole piece. Now I have the entire
piece fully animated. I'm going to export and
import the video to Premier Pro so I can add the
music and the voice-over. Now I'm in Premier Pro, already imported the
animation sequence. I can have the voice-over and the music sync
to my animation.
22. Its a Wrap: Well, and that's
it for this class. Make sure to finish your project and post it in the
project gallery. I will be available for
any feedback you may have. I hope that this
class was valuable, and you've learned
new things from it. I want to say thank
you so much for taking the time to
walk this journey. You can follow me on
Skillshare to get updates for my future
classes. Good luck.
