1. Welcome: Welcome to the Volcker mixing course in FL Studio money, Ms. Sebelius central bit September. I'm a music producer and engineer based in Cape Town, South Africa. And in this course I want to show you how to get better sounding vocals with a few plugins. So all you need is FL Studio or any third party plugin brand. But I will be using the waves of gold bundle addition in this course. So whether using Logic Pro, Pro Tools, the concepts are universal, you will be able to follow a lot. So if you're ready to start on your vocal production journey, make sure you are not disrupted. Switch off your cell phone and no, and know your social media measure, your focus was the content over and over again until it breaks sensor. And we'll see you in the course. 2. Clean Up Vocals using EQ: Welcome to the first episode of the vocal mixing in FL Studio guys with. So in this episode we're going to focus on using EQ on our vocals. So basically we will be removing frequencies we don't need and boosting whether is a neat, okay, let's get to it. Okay, so here's the trick. Sexual harassment, the places that person, that nurse's role, the blesses. Yeah. They know the stuff. Go and get it rested. Did I take the baggage? I get the bed that is stressful. Marlborough. I charge a faint blue. It is the God is my homies rock history made and let him Tanya was a shift. It doesn't matter. You still pay a bill. Paying is crazy on those same as the OEM is lag is prepaying the Renaissance. Please note a made man, I'm the new drug. That way, severe babies engaging risk as we talked in record labels, they want MY data worth. My SAT. Prep was going nowhere. I gotta get all my brothers is strep. Pneumo is on a Mac, is auto-focus. So that is the soul. So first things first we're going to focus on, Okay, focus on the hook. Right? So as you can see, LET Volker working vocal and the second backing vocals. So first thing I'm going to do is mute the bit and focus only on my vocals. Okay, Probably the blesses. Yeah, yeah, they never stop. Here. Let's start with the lead vocal. Look for an EQ, Shruti parametric EQ to write great press Play, browser blesses. They never. So I'm using this EQ because I want to make things easy for you, especially if you're a beginner, because with this EQ, you can see what is going on in the song. So for example, when I'm playing, you can hear, so you can see where the dominant frequencies are in the instrument or focal you playing. So let's play browser blesses. They never stop. You can clearly see that everything is going on. Your low, mid to high frequencies. Okay? So which means invokers, we don't need the low end. The low end is for the base and kick. Okay, so let's follow the blesses. So basically what I'm going to do now I'm going to chop off the low end from a vocal because we don't need it. But when we do it, you don't have to go crazy like chop off the old low end. Just make sure it makes sense and the artist cannot pick up the EQ that okay, my voice sounds different now these are a lot of changes now. So you gotta be settled with it. So what we're going to do, we're going to see type highpass filter. High-pass means we're chopping off the low end and letting the high frequencies pass, including the mid-range. Okay? Remember, type highpass filter. Lowpass filter means no, let the low frequencies pass and we'll chop off the top end. Let me show you. So this low-pass and high-pass makes us again low-pass. Right? So it chopping off shovel or from the right inside. Okay. High-pass. We're chopping off from the left-hand side. So we're removing the low end. Let's play it. Blesses. They never stop going. If I'm going crazy with the EQ now because I want you to hear the effect of the EQ on the vocal. Okay. Prompts that blesses, they never stop. Go and get your rested day shift, show. I take the package and then I go I get the bag. I deserve a decimal number around 190 heads. It sounds proper, but remember, it's not a row. Listen to what you mixing and mix it. Accordingly, your mixes have to make sense. Okay? So don't just chop off the low end and just go straight to 190. And when you mixing, maybe an artist's with the way deeper voice them. So you gotta make sure that you maintain the originality of the sound while you're mixing. So display, browser blesses, they never stop going. Get your sounds dope to me. So the second step will be sweeping. So what we're doing now would be sweeping around the mid range, looking for any books or muffled sounds and chop off a few DB's from that so that we get a way cleaner sound invoke. Okay. So I'm going to show you, let's use the four. Nope. Okay. So you just left-click on the Nope. Hold. Push it up and down. Okay. So to narrow the band, you just scroll and narrow the band. So let's do this. Display. Probably blesses. They never stop. Roll the blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Calling. Yours. Are rested. Press shift for Shaw. I take the Becky's and then I go I get the bag. I deserve stay-at-home, mom, bro, I deserve I charge a fee for a service that presidents deserves. I get the Bagua reserve steps for my bro, it is around 500 to 900. That's where you'll find your muffled kind of boxes sounds in a way, but you don't have to chop off the old day. We're just going to remove route. We're just going to remove tree dBs afford dBs again, this neutral rule, triple entry browser the blesses here, they never stop Going good. If that she yours a festive day. Again. Let's just push it back a little bit too. Bro, the blesses, they never stop going good. If that she yours a frosted day that she would show. I take the package and then I go I get the bag I deserve. Sounds good to me. Okay, so what I'm going to do now, I'm just going to add more brightness to the Volcker, which is going to post the top end just a little bit. Bro, the blesses, they never stop going good. If that she yours a fresh day shift show, I take the package and then I go plus three dBs that sounds doped to me. Those are the three steps of using EQ and your focus, which is boost, sweep, and cut. Let's play again. Bro, the blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get yours a frosted day. As she show. I take the package and then I go. Now the vocal sounds more alive, sounds more bright. So I'm happy with these EQ setting. So what I'm going to do now, I'm going to save the preset, okay? Because the ozone, it's just one artist to care. So whenever I need the same EQ settings, I'm just going to go and load the same, press it. Okay, So it's not cheating because you just mix the vocal and you just duplicating your own web basically. Okay, So I'm going to save preset to stop. I'm going to say EQ. Laura Volker. Okay, great. So I'm going to show you where we're going to use that later in this mix, right? Great. So display, browser, blessed. So let's play it with the beat. Row, the blessings. They never stop calling good. Roll the blesses. They never stop going getting that she yours. Okay, let's select the weather pietas, drums and everything. Row the blessing. Arrested. Show is removed the AQ rows. You can hear the difference with the EQ. It's cutting through a little bit through the mixed because we have removed the frequencies that are clashing with the low-end from the peat because we removed a low noise from the vocals because it's just noise these nothing in the low end, but we have to chop it off. And posting the top end made the vocal more brighter, which is a standing out more. Okay. So let's start with H rho. The breath. Rested. For show. I take baggage. Go. 3. Vocal Compression: Welcome back. In this video we're going to focus on using compression. Why do we use compresses when we're mixing? Basically, we use compression to boost amplitude, give the vocal instrument more energy. Okay, the compressor is there to bring up the quiet sounds and bring down the loud sounds. So imagine these as these mountains and these villages. Okay, so bringing up the villages and crushing down the mountains just a little bit, not too much. Just to make sure the sound is more consistent. It's not going up and then crazy down. Let's go focus on the host. So let's add the compressor. I will be using a waves are compressed, so you can do this with the fruit to compress, but personally prefer the waves are compressor. Okay, great. So let's go with the waves are compressed. So Mano, care because vocals, I am on a sound. All right, great. Let's Play places. They never stop going. Your way. Use the threshold as it's more like a point where the compressor will start working. So for example, let me play the Voc rather, blesses. They never stop. I'm going to pull down the compressor browser. So I'm going to put it on the threshold. Browser blesses, cool stuff. Going good. That she yours a festive day. So anything that passes that compression point which is minus 15.2 will be compress, okay? Everything before that won't be compressed. Okay? So that's how we use the threshold in compression, okay? But, uh, nothing is going to happen now because we have INSEAD our ratios, which is telling the compressor how hard or how light to compress. Okay, so let's play the blesses. They never stop going good. If your, so nothing is going on now. So let's start using the ratio. Okay? So two-to-one ratio is light compression. Browser blesses God. They never stop for today. Heavy, heavy, heavy compression, right? Okay, so the more our goal behavior I compress. Okay, So let's go places. They never stop. Go and get yours. A frosted day shift show. I take the back. I'm going to use for EEG go, I get the bag I deserve. Now you can hear that the compressor is working. Browser blesses. Yeah, they never stop going good. If m is switched off, bro, the blesses. So Sharon, browser blesses, you need a compressor. It's turning the volume down. So what we're compressing with turning the volume down in a way because we're bringing the high sounds down and bringing the low sounds up a little bit. So we losing some amplitude in a way, but don't worry about it. Let's play browser blesses. They never stop. So this is an Arctic, nope, so this tells the compressor how fast or slow the compresses should grab the signal, okay, so 0 is super fast compression. All the blessings. You don't even hear the uncompressed parts of the Volcker dislike browser blesses. And then let's set it to, let's say 15. Bro, the blesses bread and focus on the numbers. The browser blesses. They never stop going good. Let's go yours. Afresh the day. Shift show around 2002 it sounds doped communica, browser blessed. It is fast, but it's not super first. Browser blesses. They never stop. So there really is no bu using the release to tell the compressor how fast or how slow should the compress, uh, let go off the signal so that it goes back. To the origin on signal. All right, So realists set it to five browser blesses. They never stop. So you hardly picking up compression because releasing its super fast, you don't even get that a warmness sound of the compressor. Okay, so I'm going to post the release with bed blesses. You're never going get your head around. 87 sounds good. Don't worry about the numbers. Just do what sounds good for your vocal. Browser blesses you. They never stop going good. That she yours a fresh Today. Show and careless mute the compressor. Browser blesses. They never stop. Switch it on. Browser blesses. They never stop. I'm sure you can notice now that the Volcker sounds more warm, sounds more thick, and sounds more punchy. Okay, so what we're going to do now, we need to make up for the volume we lost while we were compressing. Okay, so think of mixing in a practical way. Check this out. So we have, we have a gain noble. All compressors will have a gain knob, which is after compression, which is losing volume. We will use the K nope to make up for the volume will lost. So this is an make up gain. All right, Let's go browse a blesses. They never stop going get yours, a frosted day shift for show. Take the package, and then I go, I get the bag. I deserve steps from abroad. We deserve I charge a fee for the service desk Prezi than I deserve. Yeah. I get the bag I deserve it. Stems from my bro. Let's loosen up just a little bit with the ratio. Probably. Blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get yours. A frosted day that she first show. I take the package and then I go, I get the bag I deserve. So let's play a little bit. Okay, So let's switch off the compressor. Let's play a role. The blessings, they know vista. Going good. If yours didn't switch on the compressor role, the blesses, yeah. They know vista. Going good. If yours a frosted did. Show. I take the package and then I go I get the Baghdad is pretty big area. Rather. You can hear that the vocal is taking up its own space. Now it's dominant, it's punchy, it's consistent, and it sounds warm and thick in a way. Okay, so thus the whole purpose of compression. So now we're going to compress the backing vocals and the vase. Grow the nervous. So all my thing, I have recruited the vocals are the same input live. Okay, so I'm going to save these pre-seed and just adjust from there. Okay? So this is the R compressed folks, rural, okay? So this is a great way to save time so that you don't have to redo the same thing over and over again. When you are mixing. Create a preset you like, save it. I'm just going to say lower. Perfect. 4. Vocal Compression - Part 2: So what I'm going to do now, I'm going to mix a backing vocals track. Okay, So let's solve for it and focus on it. And then we try to blend them with the lead vocal. It's playing. Browser blesses. Yeah, yeah, they never stop. Go and get your show. So remember this is not a row, as you can see, it's written backing radio. I wrote that because listening to the backing, I just realized that a radio, if it will work perfectly on it. Okay. So already made up my mind. Yeah. Okay, I'll add an EQ parametric EQ type high pass filter. Okay, great. Yeah. So it is chop off the low end, but I'm going to go crazy with this one because I'm trying to create a radio equipment. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Perfect. So then I'm server so that the lowpass narrowly the band scroll up and down. Let's play. Yeah. Okay. That sounds perfect to me. So let's play it with the lead vocal in the Beta. Should I go? I get the Baghdad is you say sounds great. The lead vocal is dominant and everything sounded great. And the backing is they're adding some spices through the trach, but it's not competing with the lead vocal. That's what I like with the radio effect. So what I'm going to do is save this preset just in case I need it. Okay? If you just save preset. So I'm going to say radio. Boom, great, great, great. Avoid them just a little bit. This goes straight to the ICU vocal second, baking cocoa candidates at an EQ in fish. I guess the Bagua reserve space for my brow areas. I charge a fee for service. Okay. I'm going to go crazy with children off the low end because I don't want the speck in folk art to compete with my main lead vocal. Okay? Then I will stop here at the top. And also this is note. Remember, okay. Then now let's style thing. This sounds fine. Yeah, that sounds fine. For sure. I get the bad guy. The decimal point probably is having served as president and our desire, the probabilities are being separated simply decorated hip. And that is Arabic. Probably is happening. What a great sound and good sound and cleared. Now let's remove the EQ or what do you do You hear it without the EQ and hear the song with the EQ, right? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I get the decimal. Fernando. I charge a fee for the EQ as she for sure. And that is Arabic. Desperately probably is. A stereotype, is a frenzied and that is where the data is extremely narrow. It is our second example. Great. Now let's go straight to the good. Let's play street name. I met him. He's crazy on the same leg is bleeding and the Renaissance, He's not get, so just get an EQ. What I'm going to do, I'm going to load the priesthood. Created a new node. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh my homies rocket Street made and let him talk and wasn't make a few adjustments from there. Yeah. All my homies rocket Street made I let him toggle. Yeah. Oh, my homies rocket Street made I let him talk and was a CFA. It doesn't matter. You still pay a does it better off? Still pay is crazy. I never feel say a pesto OEM is lag is prepay. The ribosome is not a made man. I'm the new drug I will, I live away. Similarly, minus 2 Diaz, those fall my homies, Rocky Street made and let him talk and was as CFA, it doesn't matter if school is it with the top and over. 1.5? Yeah. All my homies Rocky Street made I let him talk and was there a shift? Hey, it doesn't matter if we still paid, uh, does it better off? Still is crazy and it has no home is like is prepaying. The Renaissance is not a made man. Rather villa, Lil Wayne, me or my colleague, maybe some Baden risk. Yeah, we talk in record labels. They want me you don't preface. Got nowhere to get on all my brothers is drag a 10 or right sounding good. The next step will be compressing the vocals, which is boosting amplitude, are making the vocal sound more energetic and pi. Okay, so see you in the next video. 5. Vocal Compression (Stock Plugin): Welcome back. In this lecture we're going to start applying compression, but we're going to be using FL stock compression. Okay? Going forward, I will be adding more stock plug-in alternatives for someone who doesn't have debt but plug-ins. Okay, So what are you going to do now? We're going to insert a fruity limiter or care, which is limited, but it also has a compression feature. We're going to go to fruity limiter. We're going to switch it from limit to compressor. Okay. Yeah, I have it on the main WHO Kool-Aid. It's un-solo. So let's play the vocal. Blesses. What I love most about the fruity limiter. It's that it has a visual representation of what we're doing to the signal chain. For example, you can clearly see the input waves. So what we will be doing now will be compressing this Volcker for more punch consistency and more amplitude. Again, we're going to do that by crushing down the high peaks and trying to match them a little bit with the low valleys over year over threshold point. So this is the point where the compressor will start working. We have a knee. This is how sharp the compression grabs the signal and we have a ratio. This is the amount of compression. Okay? So let's go ahead and set to four to one compressor tendon, the ratio for all the blessings. Right? So while we're attending done the ratio, listen to the different scare. Blesses. Your rested day. Show. I take the baggage. I get the Baghdad is stressful. My broadly deserve. I charge a fee to it. Well, let's push up the new just a little bit. So it's 25 and push up the ratio 4.5 to one. Let's Play. Let's switch off the compressor. Bravo the blesses. So Sharon, bro, the blessed. Yeah. I'm pretty sure you can hear that we lost some of volume while we're compressing. Because basically when you're compressing, we're doing gain reduction. We're telling them the peak strain to mesh them with the valleys in a way or so over here you can see the amount of gain reduction we're doing by the tips over, yeah, okay, so hover over with the mouse, which minus 20 dB. Let's play pro the blesses get, let's push down the threshold a little bit further. Let's do something like 19 play. Blesses. That's yours. A fresh did the show. I take the package and then I go a little bit. I get the bag. I deserve steps from abroad, deserve a row. The blesses, they never stop. Go and get yours. A frosted day. 18, 19 minus 9. Blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get yours. A frosted day. Show. I take the baggage, right? So right now we do in the minus four, minus five, minus 5.5 dB gain reduction. So to make up for that, we're going to use the makeup gain, which is posting the same amount, which is four to five dB and play pro other places. They never stop. Yours to the right side you can see that we have an attack knob. This is how foster the compressor grab the signal at the moment to have a 0 milliseconds, bro the Blessed, which is way superfast and we're going to push it up a little bit and do something like let's play all the blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get your pushed a little bit as to 20 milliseconds is play pro other blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get yours. A frosted day. Nice. All right. So the release, it's how slow or how fast the compressor, let's go push it up. I want to do here. Bro, the blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get it. If that's yours. A fresh the day that she show, it holds the singer for a bit long. I takes time for the signal back to the original one. So right now let's push it to something like 80 milliseconds. Let's play browser blesses. If that's your, that's the shift, the compressor. Blesses. You. Switch it on. Browser blesses. They never stop, right? As you can hear, there's not much difference in volume. The difference is more punch, more amplitude, it's more consistent now compare to the original signal, and that is the purpose of compression. Okay, let's play it with the beard. Right? Let's pay the loudest part. Without the compressor. The compressor. Remember the perimeters are said no to rule. You can always adjust things to your liking, okay? If you feel like this compresses way too much, you can just go easy on the ratio or the threshold point, okay? For example, I think I can cope it to that 4-to-1. A great, the lecture continues in the next one, I will start compressing the verse and the backing vocals. See you in the next one. 6. Vocal Compression (Stock Plugin Part 2): All right, welcome back. Now it's time to compress the vest section. Let's play it with the bid. Was still paying, right? Great. We need more punch and there's more consistency, more energy. So we're going to use a compressor. Well this W2s, I want to use a different compressor because I want to have an understanding of more than one compressor. And so we're going to use Fruity compressor. This time we're going to use our ears. Okay? I'm going to set the ratio to four toward, remember, no matter how crazy I can call with the threshold, if my ratio is set to 0 to one is basically not going to compress. Okay? So I want to set the ratio to four to one. Golfers things first. And then I'm going to push down the traditional while listening to the signal. Let's play. Yeah. Oh my homies, rocket Street make and let him talk and was a CFA it doesn't matter. You still pay a does it better off? Still paying is crazy. I was saying, you can hear the compressor turning the volume down. Let's play all my homies rocket Street make. I let him talk and was as CFA, it doesn't matter. You still paid a dozen? Yeah. All right. Let's turn to something like 25 display a just a realist also something like 75. Again, I want to foster release button notice so profiles to unphased. So I'm sitting it too soon or five milliseconds. So I'm going to adjust the type to soft player. All my homies rocket Street made, I let him talk and was a CFA. It doesn't matter. Such as the threshold a little bit to the tube, Alma homies rocket street and switch off the compressor. Alma homies rocket street. As you can see, this basically has the same function. You have the threshold, you have your attack, you release your ratio of your makeup gain. This is just the type where you can set if you went a hot compress, vintage type compressor or soft compressor. Okay. So I'm going to set it to vintage. Yeah. All my homies Rocky Street made and let him talk and what gets pushed a little bit. All my homies, Rocky Street, make a switch it off. All my homies, rockets street, sushi don't all my homies Rocky Street made I let him talk and was a CFA. It doesn't matter. You still pay. So shut off. Yeah. All my homies rockets switch it on. My homies Rocky Street made and let him talk and was as CFA when I push it up a little bit, Let's try three dB play Alma homies, rocket Street made, I let him talk, push it up again. Makeup gain four dB. Yeah, All my homies, Rocky Street made. I let him talk and was a CFA. It doesn't matter. We still paid. I don't want the vocal to some to compress, but this is a rough verse. I wanted to hit Hot guy. So let's let all my homies, Rocky Street, I let him talk and was a CFA. It doesn't matter. You still pay a does it better off? Still paint? Now again here that it hits hot. And the reason we use a bit heavy compression and vocals is because of the dynamic range. What is done in a grudge, basically, dynamic range is the distance between these peaks and low sounds, okay, that is dynamic range. And vocals have a high dynamic range typically, and sounds like bases. The range is a bit tight in a way, so it has low dynamic range. Since vocals have high dynamic range, I'll normally use a ratio like for what's good. And let's play with the beat. This rock is made and let him talk, was still pay without the compressor. Compressor made. Was still does it push up the volume a little bit? And let him talk. Right? Let's play it from you to your rocket street. And there was no that sounds more punchy, more present, more dominant, trickier. So what are we going to do? We're going to compress the backends. We're just going to do like compression on the PEC and trucks. Okay. So what I'm gonna do right here, I'm just going to go straight to solo this one. Right? Bring up a compressor. Let's use the fruity limiter. So you should from limit to compress the sit, the ratio to something like three to one a bit light tendon the threshold while listening to it. It's just a tech. I want it fast but not crazy for us to appoint two pi. It's not allowing any of the original signal yes or no to something like 20 year also set the ratio to something like 87, right? For the makeup gain, as you can see, where dp in something like three to two dB. Yeah, that's like 20 dB. So I'm going to do a post which is 2.5 dB gain. All right, I'm going to quickly save this preset to save time. Save preset as baking comb. All right, Let's play it with the vocal, without the compressor step, but it's not really there at compressive. Nice. Let's do the same thing with this pecking Volcker. We're going to pull up a fruit to limited care. Go to my browser, check and drop that precede. Remember the procedure, just save back in Comp drag and drop it. Now we have the same settings. Let's just adjust the threshold a little bit. Let's play. Right? Okay. Tours, there are stats from my brows. Push up the ratio. Yep. Right, two comma five, dB less push two comma five TV as play. Now, without the compressor, the compressor. Nice. Display. Does it better? Nice, and that's how you compress using stock plug-ins. And so in the next lecture we're going to start softening the S is using a DSA technique. Basically it's compression, but it's focused solely on one frequency that normally has those sharp S is okay, and that's it for this one. I will see you in the next lecture. 7. De Esser: Welcome back. In this video we're going to focus on a D S, Okay, so why do we use DSS? We use D buses to soften the sharp sounds like the harsh Ss on your vocal. Okay, so let's get straight to it. Roll the blessing. Right, Let's solo the main Foucault. The lead vocal. Browser blesses. They never stop. Go and get yours. A festive day. Show. I take the package and then I go, Alright, let's go. Let's go with the wave plug-in again, too. D DD, DD, DD, DD, DS, 10. Oh, great. Browser blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get it again. We have a thresh hold. No. So everything that passes the threshold will be ds if these Ts, so everything passing the threshold will be DST. Okay? So let's play around with the blesses. They never stop. Go and get yours. A frosted day. Sg for show, I'm sure you can hear the DSS softening. Ss, the more pull down the threshold. So around 2003, 2004, I think, will be blesses. They never stop us go crazy because I want you to hear it. Probable that blesses. Yeah. They know this is too much. Okay. So let's stick with 73. Probably the blesses. Yeah. They never stop. Go and get yours a fresh day. The show I take. So without adjusting the frequency of a threshold alone made a huge difference. So I won't touch anything else. Okay, So let's play all the blesses. They never stop. Go and get yours. A frosted day that the DSA browser blesses. They have huge difference. Okay, So I'm sure you have noticed another thing which is of my DSA metope and went away just a little bit. It's a bit shy. So what I'm gonna do, I'm just going to boost one dB. Okay? Bro, the blesses is one. They never stop. Go and get your specific trusted day. Fashion show. I take the package care with this EQ also, I'm going to chop off the low end. But I'm going to set it to the same 190, same as the first EQ, just in case the plugins added some low noise. Okay, let's play pro the blesses. They never stop going good. That's yours. A frosted day. Show. I take the package and then I go. Sounds effort to care. So let's go and do the same thing with the barricades and the fish. Okay. Okay. Dsa 10. Okay. All right. Okay. Sorry about that. We were needed DSL this photo because it's a radio effect. So the top end is already chopped off. We don't need a DSLR for this one. And for the second peak in Walker, let's say we're going to need a ds over this one. So always be practical with your mixing 80, just shove ds is everywhere. So display. Let's try around 2003. I was going to work through this for 25 is perfect. I gave the bag I deserve, stays for my browser. So I like to Salama focus when I'm making any adjustment just to make sure I can hear exactly what am I changing. And then I will try to adjust the levels when the pizzas playing. So let's go straight to the verse and do the same thing. Verse at the DSA. And deserve comma homies rocket Street made and let him talk and was as CFA, still pay, uh, does it better off to still pay is crazy. I never fear saying appears the OEM is lag is prepaid. The realism is not a main man. I'm the new drug alveoli, Leo way, Samir, my neighbor search will we be some dangerous gas? If we talk in record labels, they want me there. If you don't meet with the work, you are belong almost sad. You're a legend in the making. Around minus 25 sounds. Decent guesses. So what are we going to do now? We're just going to adjust the levels. Places, the places that person that nurse's role that blesses. Yeah. Yeah. They never stop a fest. She did. Was show take the baggage and then I get the bag I deserve. It. Stems from my bro is I chose a free photo, sir. Deb resident advisors. I get the bag. I reserve steps for Marlboro is I chose a free photo serves the address today, reserve comma homies rock Street made and that was a good thing. It doesn't matter. You still pay a does it better off? Still paying is crazy and never fear saying our past, our own phase lag is prepay the Renaissance. He is node a main man. Della Villa, ideal way. Some Mia, My name is Sandra. We be some data. We talk in record labels. They want MY data. If you don't, working alone, almost sad. You grandpa's get nowhere. I gotta get all of my brothers is strap. I wanna put on our models on the map. The sort of bogus in the Ghazi, my man, his mother Fergus trying to give me track. My boys in a way goes mattered, a bank, Mandela faces borders man OMA phase and Margo's freaky lemming it from the back end is less energy. Let me do that. Grow the blesses, the nervous. The mix sounds decent, mix sounds dope. So you might be wondering why the chops over year. So what a DDA? I just used the Slice tool and chop off the breathing sections like I didn't remove the brain sections on the verse because a philic, they work for the mode of this song made. And let him talk, was there. But for most check, you have to zoom in and remove those breathing sections because the more you compress, the more you go into here the kit. So just be practical and creative when you mix em. So I would say every time before doing anything, edit your vocals, just remove the breathing sections. Make sure that when you're mixing, you just focused on mixing. Okay, great stuff. So we're done with the DS, sing the mix sounds. Since this is all you need to get a decent sounding Volcan, which is an EQ and compression and a DSM. But we want the mix to sound alive now I want to add some excitement to some cool effects in a way that's where the reverb and delay comes in. Okay, So we're going to use the revert to add a bit of depth to the Volcker. And we will go into use the delay to fill in the gaps in between the weights. So see you in the next video guys, where we'll be focusing on using reverb delays and sent China's okay. 8. De Esser (Stock Plugin): Welcome back. Now it's time to apply the DSA technique using only FL stock plug-ins. Okay, so let me quickly explain what a DS about. So basically a ds is a compressor, but it focuses on one specific frequency, normally with an EQ with deep or post frequencies, right? But if I make a frequency cut with the EQ, it's money. But with the compressor with that frequency pops up, it dips it in volume and continue playing at the same level until that frequency pops up again. Thus, the advantage of a DSA, DSA plug-ins are just compress a plugins designed to focus on one specific frequency in FL Studio, we don't have a DSA plug-in that's specifically designed for it at the moment, but we do have compressor plugins with presets to do exactly that. So in most cases you will of y and the shrub S is between five k, 5.57 k, in between 57 K. Okay, so what I'm going to do, I'm going to compress those specific frequency first, we're going to sweep around and find that troubling frequencies. Okay? I'm going to pull up Maximus already have a preset to this. We're going to use the ds and narrow band. Basically, it's array the selecting this region where the sharp S is a normally. Okay, so I'm going to solo this meat band right here, solo it and play. I'm just going to narrow the span a little bit more onto focus on five key and something like six K is play. Right? Let's widen it a little bit. From 3.5 to seven k. Let's play cobalt to the maid. Right over here we have a compression tool. Okay. Basically this is a threshold point. This is a knee and this is a ratio at the wrist tape. This is a selling point to get splay. Go easy on it. When you hear that yours, something very loud pops up over here in the input social display. Look at it, lessens. So right now we're focusing on those assets. Okay, So I'm going to turn down the threshold using this point. Right here. Shows the knee ratio. Let's Play. Now we have software S's because we are compressing that frequency when it's dude's to go up in for you. Okay. For example, let's play without the adjustment. Yeah, you can hear us go down and threshold again. Now it's soft. It's great. That's to show off that maximise play their present any deserve blesses. Let's enable it. Disorder that band which is the mid-range, display, their present any deserve? Bravo the blesses. It's softer. Let's switch off the Maximus. Just play dead presidents. Rather blesses. Okay, let's enable it. Blesses. They never stop. Right? We can go crazy with it a little bit more. Row the blesses, they never stop. Nice. Go and get it right. Let's go ahead and save that. I just meant we're going to save our preset over here. We're going to say as a care. And then I'm going to go straight to the verse section. I'll let him talk and was as CFA, it doesn't matter if I bring up the maximise play. Yeah. All my homies rocket Street made I let him talk and was a CFA. Yeah. All my homies rocket Street made I let him talk and was a CFA. It doesn't matter if we still paid enable it. Yes. All my homies Rocky Street made I let him talk and was as CFA, it doesn't matter. You still paid. Uh, does it better off? Still paying is crazy. I never feel safe at home is lag is prepaid. The Renaissance. He's not a main man. I'm the new drug or villi Lil Wayne and preferred this technique a bit more. It's a bit advanced, but it's more straight to the point. It's more practical because you can hear from 20, thus low frequencies, right in the EQ, going up to 20 K, which is the top frequencies, our own five K27 k. Thus we will find the sharp S is my selection offer around, around 3.726 K and focus on compressing that sexually and can give you softer. That's basically what ds and ds is compression, but focused on a specific frequency. And thus are you DS focus in FL Studio. If there's something you didn't understand, feel free to send me a question. A question is different from a review semi and in books or question via the Q&A section. And I will respond with the video. That's it for this lecture. I will see you in the next one. 9. Using Reverb & Delay: Welcome back. In this video, we're going to focus on spicing up the vocal, which is using a reverb to add depth to the vocal and a delay effect to fill in the gaps in between and make the vocal sound interesting at the same time. Okay, So for the delay and reverb, we're going to use sand channels, okay? So that would only have to insert a reverb on every track. Always make sure that you set your temple or before mixing. Because reverb and delay at time effects though, would be offbeat if ten boys is not set to the correct tempo. So this song, it's 100, the P, M, 100 ppm. So this is why you need to make sure that your bpm is set to the song or beat tempo before mixing, before recording, Let's get to it. So we're going to create cent china's in FL Studio to use Zen channels. You just go over here, right-click your force and channeled trucks will pop up, right-click. They disappear, right-click the popup. But now I cook. All right, Let's go roll the camera mute the bit. Browser blesses. Let's name was sent. Tracks are a little bit. Let's make it pink and purple, blue. Goo us the delay. Okay, so let's at the fruity reverb. So these are EQ settings. Remember high cut. Remember high cut, high cut, we cutting, which is we're removing the high frequencies and letting their low and mid frequencies pass low cut. We letting the high frequencies bus and wood chopping off with a low or low mid. Okay, So these are the same bands, just two bands on this. Okay? So I'm going to set my low or cut to the same as the vocal for status. Another row, just 180, 990. Okay, perfect. Okay. And for my high cut it off for now. Let me leave it as is. Okay, great. So in FL, how you use channel is a bit different from other softwares. For example, you don't have to add treads it FL Studio have a mix of just everything. You just have to use what you have. Okay, so I'm going to select my hook. Ok, great. I'm sure you've noticed when you solo, the Trex doesn't affect the sand channels, play. Blesses. They never stop. Okay, so we're going to use these reverb for every trick, okay, you can create another type of reverb, but created on the sand channels so that when you need the same effect on another track, you can just send a beer that signal to that scent track. And two is going to save you a lot of CPU power, heavy like 20 reverbs and delays. A, you'll get in trouble, right? Let's play blesses. So I want to add a reverb to these ones. So I'm going to send a bit of this signal to this trick. I don't have to rotate it because automatically it's rooted in as a centric. Okay, boom, increase the volume. So check this out. It says to revamp, So I'm sending that signal to destroy some of it. Okay, the original is going to the master and some of it is going to distributable. Blesses. They never stop going. So since this is a same channel, I'm just going to max out the wet level. We don't need that dry. Just going to remove the dry signal. Great. So I'm going to set my decay to two seconds. So dk is more like smell like a sustain. If you, someone who plays a keyboard is willing to sustain. Okay, So along a dk means the reverb will play for some time, but a shorter decay. The river goes on and off every two seconds. If it's two seconds, every 1 second, if it's 1 second. Okay. Okay, so great. So let's play browser, bless. Listen to it. Thus the TK. Good. Let's set it to five seconds. Browser bless. Five seconds. So I'm going to set it to two seconds. Play browser blesses. They never stop going, Gary. Yeah. So let's chop off the top end from the ribbon because it can be annoying sometimes. Okay. So let's chop it off. Rather blesses, they never stop going good. Seo was arrested day. Show. More low intracellular bit. Bro, the blesses. They never stop. I love the sound of the reverb. So right now we're only going to adjust the amount of reverb applied on this track by adjusting the amount we sent to the central for all the blessings that she yours a festive day that she first show. I take the package and then I go I get the bag. I deserve test from abroad. We deserve I charge a fee for service. Deb Prezi, then I deserve to and same thing with the back-end. You just select. Okay. And sent. Yeah. So this is a bare ground Volker. I'm going to add more on this one because I want it to be more wet. Yeah. Same thing over here. I get the Baghdad is RV for my bro. It is RV. I charge a fee for the role the blesses. Nervous, die. Roll the blesses, the nervous. I take the package. Go. I get the bag, I deserve. Stressful. Marlboro is I charge a fee for service prezi than I deserve. I get the beggar reserving, stressful Marlborough it is. I chose a 340 serves, get less than deserves Alma homies, right Street made and let him sargon was as CFA. So we're going to add reverb to the vase also. All my homies, Rocky Street made and let em tag and was as CFA, he doesn't meant still pay. Uh, does it better? Still pay is crazy. I never feel safe. Appears now. Home is lag, is prepay. The realism is not a main man. I'm the new drug. I will, I will. I'm sure you can hear that. The vocal is taking up more space. Mommy's rock Street made was FCFs aid with the pit without the Mau Mau Mau Mau Mau Mau Mau Mau Mau Mau Mau. I chose a free photo serves the address today. Ama homies, right Street made and let him saga was as CFA. Still pay, does it? Still is crazy. I never failed to appear the overlaps. The Renaissance is not a main man on the moon drug as well. Ideal way. See me or my neighbor search. We be some dating risk. We talk in record labels. They want me there. If you don't meet with you. In the preface, got nowhere. I gotta get all my brother. Sounds more alive, more present with just the reverb plug-in. These rockets street. Save orders, remember to say, Okay. 10. Using Reverb & Delay Part 2: Okay, Makes now it's time to add delay. So I'm going to use the fruity delayed three, which is the latest delay plug-in from EMH line. Okay? So what I'm going to do here, I'm going to make sure it's one tempo sync. Care with the a 100 ppm. Okay, I'm going to leave it at four for now. Turn down the dry north. This is the feedback. Okay. I wanted you to hear what the feed back doors let's play. I charge a fee for service. Select the instrument. You went to two and then don't click this one. No, select this one, and then send a signal which has a fee for deserves their present any deserve the browser blesses. They never stop. So as you can see that the delay continues for a very long time because the feedback is super high. Okay? So now we're going to adjust the feedback. Let's make it 20. I charge a fee for service. They're present any deserve the browser blesses. They never stop. Browser blesses. They never stop. Go and get your clothes. A festive day. Show. What I also like with this reverb. It also has an E Q type of nob with the feedback so I can adjust the feedback. For example, right now, its own low pass. Bro, the blesses. Yes. They never stop. Set it too high bus. Bro, the blesses? Yes. They never stop. Go and get. Low-end is no mid-range. But you can adjust it with the cut-off? Nope. Okay. Let's play pro the blesses. Yes. They never stop. Go and get your clothes. A frosted day. Show. I take the package and then Palestine down the feedback again. Probably the blesses thing, Nova. Going yo a fresh today. Thanks, shift for show. I take the package and then I go, I get the bag I deserve. Deserve. I charge a FIFO to serve as president. I deserve, I get the bag, I deserve. Teddy Roosevelt. If you are a frosted. That ship was show. I take the Peggy's. I get the bag. I deserve this decimal number o. You deserve I charge a fee for a serves. Sounds good. Let's use the same delay. Your foot on a GAP resume deserved. Alma homies, rocket street, maybe I let him talk and was as CFA, he still pay, uh, does it still paying is crazy. I never fills saying in 15% would be fine. Let's play. Yeah. Oh my homies rock history made a let em tag and was as CFA, he still pay a split with the bed, is crazy and never appeared on his leg is prepaying the Renaissance. He's not a main way. We visited Beijing. We talk in record labels. They want me if you don't meet with the word to the dealer. Yeah. Oh, my homies rocket Street made and that was as CFA. Still still paying is crazy out and never fear saying a pair down. There's lag is prepaying the Renaissance. He's not a main dry LA VLA way. We visited Beijing, played without the reverb and delay. All my homies, Rocky Street made and let him there was a CFA. It doesn't matter. You still pay those dope sounds clean, sounds punchy, but it's too dry, man. Let's get their way up. The delay. Sounds beautiful man sounds biota f2. Okay. So right now, I'm going to add the same way, tumor back and vocal. Okay. Okay. Okay. Taylor, 10. Yes. Delete at the bit. More available in the Burkean, such as the pennate, 25 or 20. So I had to adjust depending so that my lead vocal doesn't sound way too lonely over there. But I just want to keep it to the right such as 20 percent to 5%. Sounds right? So what I'm going to do now, I'm going to create another cent china's, but for a different type of a delay, delay ping-pong for my radio effect. Making great. So let's add same TLA three. Okay, so send signal to this delay ping-pong. Yeah. Set it to 21. Yeah. Try not using a sand. You don't need the try signal over year. That she ate. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Let's adjust the high pass filter because I want to hear the mid-range also. Okay, so remember when I'm adjusting the cutoff, but in to the left, basically this is what I'm doing on the EQ. Highpass is more like this. So when I'm telling it, when I'm pushing it to the left, the zoo I'm doing I'm opening up more of the meat Quincy get. So I'm allowing more frequencies to come in. Let's play. Now you can hear it. Great. I want this one to be a ping pong delay, which made it's bouncing from speaker to speaker. Okay, So let's switch it from stereo to pin pong. Don't get to hear the full effect to just set your painting to one side which is to the left? Yes. Okay. She said it for you. You can hear. Grown delays bouncing from speak, two-speed gear. So this is kinda for the listener just to make the mix sound interesting. So mixing is not just cleaning up every day and compressing all that stuff. No. You also have to apply creativity to it. This is why I decided to use a different delay for these specific backing vocal. Sounds good. Kayla's played with the whole mix. Grows, the more wetness to baking radio. If it grows the breast is. Just listen to the whole trek. That's safe. Great. So I'm going to switch off all plugins. Listen to it. But I'm just going to leave the levels. And depending as a vista, I get the Baghdad is decimal, Marlboro is I charge a fee for service is the best for my bro, It is. Today. These rockets three main and Madame target was, as she is crazy on his leg, is prepay the drug and the media Monday, the CHO we visa and dangerous gang. We talking back and listen with everything. We do. I said that places the places I take the baggage, I get the bag. I deserve a decimal number o e deserve if I charge a fee for service, get Prezi Dan, I deserve get the bag. I reserve steps for macro. It is. I charge a fee for service. Deafness. Today is Kamau these rock history made and they had him. It doesn't matter who still is crazy on this phase lag is the dry lab, smear my Maybe CHO. We visit Beijing risks. We talked in record labels. They want me data. If you don't meet with the word yeah, you know the non-normal. I'm making. You preface Gatto, We gotta get anomer. I wanna put our normal ozone. Gave me off track my boys AND WE goes mattered a bank Mandela phase and my immediate been the bag is less energy. Let me do they grow the blesses. The nervous going in as a fresh did was show I take the baggage. And that is how you mix your Volcker's like a professional in studio. The same concepts apply on all digital audio workstations, but just a few interface differences. For example, sands, you have to create it different ox track and my medicine that Treg. But you can use the same information on every software Logic Pro Tools EQ base, okay, so if you have lent something from this course, please make sure you leave me a good review or get. But be honest with the reviews there be honest with the reviews because I also want to lend from your feet back at the very same time. Okay, so in the next video, what we're going to do, I'm just going to be doing the final touches, which is just the leveling, making sure everything sounds great when it comes to levels, and then we're done. Okay, so see you in the next video. 11. Final Touches: Welcome back. Right now it's time to do the final touches just to see everything is on point before we can call it a day. All right, so let's play the mix. Adjust volumes if there is a need. So it's just the final touches now just to be sure that you've done with mixing, but you are never done any creative works, you just have to finish. So now it's time for the final touches. Let's just play the song and see. Central places. The person that nurse's role that blesses film content on the forecast just a little bit. So I'm going to hold Control, select everything, hold Shift, and just turn it done at the same time. Okay. Great role that blesses the bag I deserve. Decimal Marlboro. I chose a fee for service. Gap resident advisor. I get the bag, I deserve a decimal Marlborough it is. I chose these rockets three main. And let's listen from the end of the hook so that we can hear if these major difference on for you again. Yeah. President. Reserving space for Marlboro. It is. I chose to get my scanning. How about homeless drug Streep made and then I'm Tanya was as CFA. Still a dozen still paying is crazy and there were fears saying appears on his leg is prepay the Renaissance. He's not a main num, the new drug available to me or my navy, cetera. We be sunbathing risk actions. We talk in whether labels, they want me to laugh. If you don't be with the work you've done almost. We're making you preppers get nowhere. And gada get out of my brothers is dram. I wanna put on our models on the map, disorder focusing his mother, Fergus trying to get me off track. My boys in the week goes mattered a bank, Mandela faces Buddhist myeloma phase and McGuire's freaky Lemmy from the bag is less energy level role the blesses. And that she was arrested. She was show I think the baggage. I told you what a macro is. Yeah. I I did the bag I deserve Broglie deserve high charge a fee for service, depth residential Reserve. I give the bag, I deserve a desk for my bro, it is RV. I chose it fee-for-service. Proceed. Any deserve and that seat for the course. Okay. So please be patient with yourself. Make sure you watch every video over and over again. Practice, practice, practice, practice, and trust me, it will pay off men. So with this kind of information, you will be able to mix your own songs. You will be able to mix either people's music with confidence, with confidence. So my name is Sebelius, said SRO bit September. Thank you very much. Please. Don't forget to leave a review on what you think about the cause and what you've lent. Okay. So please give me some good feedback, but always be honest because I also want to learn from your feedback. Okay, thank you very much. And that's it for the vocal mixing cause in FL Studio. 12. Final Words, Thank You: Hey, we're finally done. But always remember to practice what you learn. You can get better at anything if you are willing to take action and consistently practice. Thank you. Thank you very much for enrolling and cheese to better mixes.
