1. Introduction: Are you someone that
considers herself a little too logical? You don't quite understand how creative people operate
the way that they do. I mean, here they are operating through inspiration
and intuition. While you, the logical person, doesn't quite understand those
concepts, you're in luck. Because creativity is something
that can be systematized. And it can be systematized
through the use of mind maps. In this beginner's
class on mindmaps, you are first of all going
to understand what it is. You're going to understand
the benefits of mind-mapping. You're going to understand
the simplest way to get started along
with a final project. Or you're going to get a D, opportunity, uh, to create
a mind map of your own. Are you ready to finally
systematize creativity? So artists no longer
seem like this enigma. If so, I look forward
to seeing you inside.
2. What Are Mind Maps: Mind maps are tangible
brainstorming sessions. I'm not going to confuse you. There's gonna be a lot of
different definitions for mindmaps out there
that may confuse you. But the main purpose
of mind-mapping is to brainstorm and to put
it on a solidified form. And for this class, we're
going to keep it all school. We're going to keep it
with the paper and pencil, something we're going to be
discussing in future videos. Just understand
that the purpose of mind-mapping is to solidify
your brainstorming sessions.
3. Benefits of Mind Mapping: So now you understand
mind-mapping is a solidified version of your
brainstorming sessions. The next question is,
were some benefits that I can expect if I do
plan to mind-map. One benefit is
recalling information. Have you ever had that one
moment when you read a book, listen to an
educational podcasts, or watched an educational video, and the information was
present at the moment. But as six months passed on by, you completely forgot
about the information. Or it was extremely
blurry to a point where you can't say with confidence that you know the information. Luckily, what
mind-mapping you're capable of overcoming
something like that. Because whenever
you're mind-mapping, you're actively
recalling information and you're writing it down. The simple act of recalling
and writing allows you to remember the information and make it a part
of your reality. That's one benefit. Another benefit is the
ability to problem-solve. You could solve great
problems in your mind, but it's great when
you write it down. And you view it from
multiple different angles. Because when you view it from
multiple different angles, it feels as though that
you have more perspective. What is problem-solving really? It's simply about getting
more perspective, more perspective than
you initially had. With proper
mind-mapping sessions. You're capable of solving problems that have
been hunting you for a couple of days to
weeks or maybe even months. The third benefit is that
it's highly therapeutic. I don't know about for you, especially once you
start mind-mapping. But for me, it's
something that calms me. It's very similar to
free flow of journaling, or sometimes you don't even
need to solve a problem. It's very similar to doodling. You're starting off and you're seeing where the mind-mapping
session takes you. And each session is different. But each session, despite
it being different, it gives you an insight. And this insight is capable of changing your
day-to-day behaviours. You never know. So these are
a couple of benefits that should keep you motivated and
learning how to mind-map.
4. Identifying a Topic: To get warmed up
and mind-mapping, let's start off with a topic. Sure, you don't
necessarily need a topic, but to get warmed up, it helps to guide the mind. The mind loves clarity, and
when you don't give it, clarity is force
acting upon you. So the first step is to
give yourself a topic. Let's say there has been
something that's bugging you. You don't quite know
how to solve it. Let's say you don't
know if you want to get a Honda or a Toyota. Your topic could be, which car should I get
for this upcoming year? And once you have the topic, you are now ready to
go to the next video.
5. Nodes and Links: So the next two things
you want to learn are called nodes and links. Nodes are structures of information and links are the
connection among the nodes. So back to the
whole example with choosing a Honda or Toyota. In this case, a few nodes
that you can create are the different models
of hundreds out there. The different models
of Toyota out there. Typically whenever
I'm creating a node, I just create a square and
I put a label within it. More nodes that you can create are your personal preference, maybe something that is
beyond just the price point. Maybe you had a lot of great memories in the
past 100 that you had. And there's that personal
preference that you have. So you create a node for love, and you connect this love
node to the Honda node, you link it together. This is a creative process. So I can't be like create exactly these nodes
and link it like this. This is something that
you want to do in terms of your own
subjective experience. The main thing to
understand is that you're creating nodes and create as many nodes as you
possibly can that suits the problem or the topic that you assign
yourself in the last video. Once you have these
nodes presented to you, link them and then effective way in order to draw an insight.
6. Pushing Boundaries: What brainstorming is
one of those things were right when you think
you've reached the limit. If you keep on pushing
a little bit more, you reach a new
limit. Go figure. So during your
mind-mapping sessions, there's gonna be times
when you're like, I know I've assigned
myself a topic, but I can't think
of any more nodes. I can't think of
any more length. And the problem is that I haven't even solved
my initial problem. This is when you
need to keep pushing yourself even more
and more and more. The more that you keep
pushing yourself, the more that you are flexing
your creative faculties and strengthening your
brainstorming muscle for future sessions. So the purpose of this
particular video is, right, when you think you
can't push any further, you most certainly can.
7. Where to Mind Map: So now you understand what mind-mapping you need to
give yourself a topic. You need to create nodes. And you need to
link those nodes in an effective way to draw an
inside. Here's the thing. There's a lot of softwares out there nowadays
for mind-mapping. And that is something that
I'm not opposed to at all. But since this is a beginners
class on mind-mapping, I recommend shortening the
old-school analog method. Get a clean piece of paper. I'd get a pencil and just start creating your
mind map with your hand. The ability to write by hand is powerful because you are actively getting your
motor receptors involved. You are using your memory, you are present, you
are feeling good. I mean, digital is
taking over the world. Why not introduce some analog interior
life? It doesn't hurt. My recommendation for getting
started with mind-mapping. A comes down to
paper and pencil.
8. Brain Dump: One man's brain dump is
another man's treasure. No, seriously, it is. There was this one very famous
information entrepreneur. And at this point in his life, he has a lot of clout and he has a lot of
die-hard supporters. So around the end of the year, what he does is he opens
up his living facility for his die-hard supporters
to come and get a tour? Well, one trip, one of the die-hard supporters
is taking the tour. And he sees this information
entrepreneurs desk. And it has a bunch of
papers on the desk. And this diehard fan is like, Excuse me, Mr. entrepreneur, can I please look through these papers and the information
entrepreneurs like what? These papers are just
junk is just brain dumps, is just my mind maps. And this fan is like, but can I please
look through it? And the information
entrepreneur, being a great
businessman was like, you could do something more. If you give me $100, you can get all these pages. And this diehard fan is like, of course, and he immediately then most this
entrepreneur, the money. The moral of the story is
that one person's brain dump, you can actually turn into
another person's treasure. And your own brain dumps can
turn into your own treasure. So when you're mind-mapping
or don't be too restrictive and do
your best to be free. Assume that no one is going to ever see
these brain dumps. So keep on getting
yourself and moving out of your own way and writing
whatever you possibly can that suits the
topic at hand. One more time. One
person's brain dump can truly turn into treasurer.
9. Final Project: For the final project, I want you to create your own mind map. Number one, assign yourself a problem that you have
currently been dealing with. The more relevant
it is to your life, the more invested you
are going to feel in order to create
this mind-map. Next, create relevant nodes
that will help you solve this problem and
link these nodes and effective ways
to draw an insight. Once you are done with
your brainstorming, otherwise known as
brain dumping session, I want you to take a picture of this mind-map and I
want you to post it in the final project section
right below to not be nervous because we
all start off somewhere. And remember what I said. A mind-mapping session can truly turn into treasurer
for someone else. If you enjoyed this
