1. Introduction: Welcome to this journey of self love and creative expression. In this short but transformative class, you explore three simple and uplifting art exercises designed to reconnect you with your heart, foster compassion for yourself and spark joy. The first art exercise is called Growing Heart of Colors. The second one, web of Connected hearts and the third one, Heart ful girdle. No art experience is required. Just bring your curiosity and an open heart. Let's create a space where self love blossoms one stroke at a time. 2. Class Project for Self-Love: For your class project, combine the three art exercises. I'll show you in this class into a single cohesive artwork that tells your self love story. Start with a growing heart. Draw a growing heart at the center of your page expanding outward with layers of colors that reflect your emotions, affirmations or moments of self care. At a web of connection. Extend lines from your growing heart to smaller interconnected hearts around it. This can represent parts of yourself, loved ones, or things that bring you joy and strength. And surrounded with a artful garden, complete your piece by drawing a garden of heart shaped flowers around your web representing the love growth you are cultivating in your life. Share your finished piece in the class gallery with a brief description of your process and what each section symbolizes for you. Let this project be a celebration of your journey toward self love. 3. Drawing Growing Hearts : We're going to do something special, a creative exercise that's all about self love and acceptance. We're going to draw a series of hearts, starting small and growing outward, each one representing a different layer of love and appreciation for yourself. As we draw, I'll guide you through the process and I want you to let your emotions flow. Don't worry about making it perfect. This is your personal journey and every heart will be just right as it is. Think about where you are right now in your journey of self love. How are you feeling today? There is no wrong answer. Just notice what comes up for you. Take a pastel and in the center of your page, draw a small heart. This heart represents you your starting point. It's the core of your being. As you draw it, imagine pouring your current feelings into the heart. It could be happiness, curiosity, uncertainty, or even self doubt. Whatever you're feeling is okay, when you finish drawing your first heart, take a moment to look at it. This is where we begin. Now, let's keep going. We're going to draw another heart bigger than the last one. This time, think about another quality or emotion you want to honor in yourself. It could be compassion, resilience, courage, or even something you are working on like patience or forgiveness. Choose a different color for this layer. As you draw, imagine this quality wrapping around your inner hearts, protecting them, and helping them grow. Let's keep adding hearts one by one. Each time we'll think of a new quality or feeling that represents self love or acceptance. If you're unsure what to pick, that's okay. Just choose a color and let it represent whatever comes to mind. This is your process. As you are drawing, notice how the hearts are growing outward layer by layer. Imagine your love for yourself expanding with every stroke. Think about what these colors mean to you. How do they feel? How does it feel to draw these hearts to add these layers of love and appreciation for yourself. You might notice certain emotions coming up, joy, peace, maybe even some discomfort of self doubt. That's all part of the process. Keep going until you feel like your hearts have reached the edges of your paper or until you feel a sense of completion. Let your hearts grow as big as they need to. They might touch the edges or they might stay small. This is your space and you get to decide what feels right. Take a moment to look at your hearts. Look at all the layers you've created, each one representing a part of who you are, your strengths, your qualities, your journey. Notice how the colors come together, how they overlap, and how they have created something beautiful and whole 4. Drawing a Web of Hearts: We're going to create something that's both simple and deeply meaningful, a beautiful interconnected web of hearts. Each heart you draw will represent a moment of self love, kindness, or gratitude. The lines that connect them will remind you that all these moments, big or small are part of a larger network that supports and nurtures you. The goal isn't perfection, but presence. Let yourself enjoy the process, and by the end, you have something that feels like a celebration of your unique journey towards self acceptance and love. Take your pastel and start by drawing a small heart dumbbell on your paper. This first heart represents a quality you already love about yourself. What something you are proud of. Maybe it's your ability to care for others, your sense of humor, or your resilience. Once you've drawn it, let's move on to another heart. This time, think about something you are working on a part of yourself you are learning to accept or grow. It could be your patience, your confidence, or even your ability to take breaks when you need them. Keep drawing more hearts one by one. Let them be scattered across the page, not in a straight line. You're building a collection, a little map of all the things that make you who you are. Now, you can start connecting your hearts. Take a look at your page. Notice how each heart feels like its own little world. Now with a dashed or broken line, connect two hearts together. As you do, think about how these qualities are connected in your life. For example, how does your creativity connect to your courage? How does your kindness connect to your patients? How do your struggles teach you strength? Continue drawing these broken lines between the hearts, creating a web that spans your entire page. Let the connections happen naturally. There is no right or wrong way. Every line represents a relationship between parts of you, showing that even when you feel fragmented, you're still whole. Step back for a moment and look at your page. Can you see how the heart and lines together create something more than the individual parts? This is a visual representation of you. Each heart is a piece of your journey and the lines remind you that everything is connected. Even when things feel scattered or broken, there is a thread weaving everything together. Keep going, keep adding hearts and connecting them until your page feels full. You might think of new qualities or emotions as you draw. Maybe you want to add a heart for your humor, your determination, or even for something like forgiveness. Let them flow naturally one by one. As you draw, try to focus on how this process feels. Do you feel lighter, more connected, or maybe it's bringing up some emotions you didn't expect? That's okay. Just let your pastel keep moving. This is your space to explore. Take a moment now to look at your completed page. Look at all the hearts and all the connections. What does this webs about you? What do the hearts remind you of? Maybe you see a balance between strengths and challenges or maybe you see parts of yourself you hadn't noticed before? If you'd like write a word or phrase in the corner of the page that sums up how you feel after creating this, it could be something like connected, hole or even working progress. 5. Drawing a Self-Love Garden: In this third exercise, we're going to create something really beautiful, a garden of love. This isn't just any garden. It's a space where every flower represent a part of you that deserves love and care. We'll start by drawing stems that reach from the ground to the sky like our hopes and dreams. Then we'll add heart shaped leaves representing the parts of us that nourish and sustain us. And finally, we'll draw heart shaped petals to create blossoms that celebrate our growth and self love. We're going to start by drawing the stems Start at the bottom of your paper and draw a vertical line for your first stem. Now draw another stem, let it grow next to the first one. Imagine it reaching toward the light. Keep adding more stems, filling the bottom of your page. Each one is a reminder of your ability to grow and reach higher. Next, we're going to draw leaves on each stem, but here's the twist. These leaves will be shaped like little hearts. On one stem, draw a small heart, tilted slightly to one side. This heart shaped leaf represents something that nourishes you. Maybe it's your kindness, your curiosity or the people in your life who lift you up. Now add another heart shaped leaf on the same stem. Think about what else helps you grow. Is it your creativity, your resilience, or maybe your willingness to try new things? Repeat this for each stem. Let the leaves grow upward climbing toward the top. Each one is a symbol of the love and care that fuels your growth. It's time for the blooms. This is where your self love truly blossoms. At the top of each stem, draw a heart. These hearts can be as big or small as you like. They're the flowers of your garden, the celebration of all the love you are learning to give yourself. Choose a color for each bloom, maybe red for your courage, pink for your tenderness or yellow for your joy. As you add each bloom, think about a moment or a quality in your life, that feels like a personal triumph. Maybe it's something you've overcome or a way you've grown recently. Add as many blooms as you'd like. Let your garden be as vibrant and full as you want it to be. Look at your garden. You are growing in love every day. Your roots are strong, your leaves are reaching and your blooms are beautiful. You honor your growth, your heart, and your journey. 6. Drawing an Inverted Umbrella - Bonus Video: We're going to create a meaningful artwork that symbolizes protecting your inner peace. You know, life can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are stresses, distractions and challenges, but we have the power to create a space inside us that stays calm and protected, no matter what is happening around us. Together, we're going to draw something beautiful that reminds us of that power. Ready? Let's begin. We're going to draw an inverted umbrella. This inverted umbrella is a powerful symbol. Instead of catching the rain, it holds your peace. Imagine it as a shield, gathering all the things that bring you tranquility, warmth, and balance. Just like how an umbrella keeps you drive from the rain, this umbrella keeps your inner world protected from life's distractions, stress, and negative energy. This umbrella is a symbol of your ability to create boundaries to choose what influences your energy and to take control of your inner world. You have the power to shield yourself from negativity and stress, and you can find your way back to peace whenever you need it. As you continue, remember that this umbrella is not just a drawing. It's a personal reminder. It represents your inner strength, your ability to stay grounded, and your commitment to protecting your peace. When you look at this symbol, think about the ways you protect yourself, whether it's through self care, healthy boundaries, or time spent in nature. The umbrella is your safe place, your sanctuary in the storm. At the top of your umbrella, you place flowers. These flowers aren't just for decoration. They symbolize the things that nourish your heart and mind. They represent everything that makes you feel happy, whole and calm. Think of them as the little moments and things that help you find peace in the chaos of life. They could be the love you share with others, the creativity you express, the joy in simple pleasures or the kindness you give and receive. Each flower you imagine here is something that gives you strength. It could be something like a supportive friend, a peaceful moment in nature, or even a hobby that brings you comfort and joy. These flowers are a reminder of what feeds your soul and keeps you centered. Let's take a moment to bring the umbrella to life with some color. I want you to choose a color that feels protective to you. Maybe it's the blue which makes you feel grounded or a strong cred symbolizing your personal strength. It could even be a calming green which represents balance and harmony. The color you choose will be the shield that protects you. It's time to add some colors to the flowers above the umbrella. These flowers represent joy and beauty. You can choose any color you'd like, maybe bright yellow for sunshine, soft pink for peace, or bold purple for creativity. Let each flower reflect the things that make you feel good about yourself and the world around you. As you color, think about why each flower is special to you. Is it the color that brings you peace or the idea of something that makes you smile every day? Let these flowers bloom vividly on your page just as your inner peace blooms when you nurture it. Et's draw something very important, rain, but not just any rain. This rain is what nourishes and helps the flowers grow, like how rain nourishes plants in nature. The rain in this drawing symbolizes all the things that keep your piece vibrant, fresh, and full of life. As you draw the in, you create lines flowing from the top to the bottom of the page. Let the lines be gentle but steady, symbolizing how these acts of self care and connection fall into your life and help sustain your inner peace. The rain reminds you that even during challenging or stressful times, there are things that nourish and restore you, allowing your peace to flourish. Each drop, each line is a part of what helps you stay fresh, calm, and full of life. It's time to take a moment to reflect on the things that protect your pets around your umbrella and flowers, write down words that help you feel calm, safe, and balanced. For example, boundaries, rest, gratitude, saying no one needed time in nature, coffee, tea, water, yoga, nature, friends, family, gratitude, meditation, mindfulness, journaling, and everything that makes you happy. As you write these words, think about how they're like the flowers in your umbrella. Each one is a part of your peace that you can carry with you no matter where you go. These are the things you can focus on when the world feel overwhelming or when you feel disconnected. Keep these words close to your heart. They're your shield, your protection, and your reminder that you can always return to peace. You have the ability to create a safe space inside you, no matter what is going on around you. Look at your drawing. See how the umbrella is holding all of your peace, your flowers of joy and your strength. Remember, this umbrella is a symbol of your power to protect your inner calm. Every time you look at this artwork, remember that you have everything inside you to stay peaceful no matter what storms come your way.
