About This Class

In this class, I will show you several industries and products you can use your art and illustrations for.

We will start by understanding how to plan a set of elements that can be repurposed for multiple uses and which are the key features that allow you to create a working pattern from them. Then we will analyze in details 3 industries that are great to create some streams of revenue through passive income: print on demand, wedding design and branding design.

For each industry, I'll tell you all my tips and tricks to succeed and I'll highlight all the skills you may need to acquire in order to confidently turn your artworks into specific products.

Disclaimer: This class is not focused on teaching pattern design or graphic design nor on technical Photoshop skills. It's designed to show you a variety of different possibilities and show you the method to optimize your art for the above industries, that's why is suggested to intermediate level students.

If you want to see how I painted my elements, digitize them and create a pattern with them you can watch my Watercolor Illustrated Alphabet in Photoshop class, but it's not necessary to follow along with the class, you can use your own set of illustrations.

1. Intro: Are you an artist or an illustrators always struggling to find time for creating new artworks. Are you in need of finding new source of income high and Francesca, anytime you illustrator and patent designer in this class, I'm going to show you how I plan my illustration in order to maximize their outcomes. What do I mean? I mean, they have created a very basic set of flowers and leaves, just few brushstrokes. And I have create with them a pattern and I'd use it alongside with some other composition and the elements itself. Create over 250 is product. Yes, that's right. 250 different products. If we consider them all across several industries such as wet being designed, running design, stationary, fabrics, apparel, furniture, home textiles, and so on. In this class, I'll guide you through my process from the wavelength malnutrition to tips and tricks for each industries and every product. We are going to apply our work on uncover print on demand website, wedding illustration and branding design. I want teach you how you create your nutrition or how to create a button. I have used elements and a button that I've created for a previous Kesher class that is cold water color illustrated alphabet Info shop. If you are interested in seeing how I painted my elements and how I created my pattern. You can look at that glass, but it's not necessary to follow along this class. You can use any kind of elements you already have or you can start from scratch, just follow along with the planning lesson and create a brand new set of elements. And this class is a collector of ideas for how to obtain the maximum from your illustration. And I'll mentioned in each lesson, all the different skills you may need to acquire for succeeding in each industry. So if you are curious to see how you can gain the most out of your illustration, please follow along and we will see how many different and amazing things your art can be turned into. 2. Materials: To follow along with this class, I suggest you to grab your illustrations, especially if you have ever illustrated separate elements, gives you want to start from scratch, you will need your favorite medium. So watercolors, washed pencils wherever you prefer, or maybe your iPad. If you create digital illustrations. You will also need a scanner. Mine is a Canon lied 2020, and a laptop. In terms of softwares, it's depending from what she wants to create. Ice suggests for a sharp end or industries or there are also cheaper or free alternatives to the software's, but these ones are the ones that are used. And if you want to have a free week of trial, you can find the link in the about section of the class. 3. How to plan: Before diving into our art, let's take a moment to think about the possible outcomes. How many different end uses your illustration can possibly have in the project section of the class, I have provided a list of possible end-users. It's not complete, of course there are always more use you can think of, but it's just a certain point where some brainstorming, considering the actual amount of time that it would require to show you every single step-by-step process for everything that we are going to cover in this class. I choose to just show you the end product and how I did realize it by highlighting the main points of it. And I have used a set of elements and a pattern that I have already created for another skill share class at it's called watercolor illustrated alphabet Info shop. So if you are interested in seeing how I painted my elements, how agreed the pattern and all these process. You can watch lesson 456 on the glass, but it's not necessary for fallen along this glass. You can start with any kind of elements you have with any kind of illustration. If you already have a button, just feel free to go along with just those. When a pregnant that class and therefore the elements and the button. My only aim was to use it in an alphabet. So I just needed a pattern that wasn't even a proper repeating pattern, just the butter to feel alphabet. But then I realize how many different uses I can make all the same pattern, the same elements. So that's why I had the idea of this class and that's what I wanted to show you today. As I mentioned in the introduction video of this class. And even above, having in mind what kind of outcomes you want to obtain from creating illustration will definitely simplify your life. So I'm going to start by explaining you how I plan my elements and which is my process to get the most out of my illustrations. The main steps of my project are, first of all, define a few possible outcomes for your collection of elements. For example, the collection and using for this class was born to be used to create a pattern for an alphabet. But I have figured out it can be used also for selling it online as clip art. So on websites such as Creative Market, for example, create printing them and products and we will analyze it in less than four, use it for a wedding suite, and we will see it in details in less than five. Use the pattern for stationary as surface design. Use the pattern for fabrics. I would mention that in less than four as well, use it for burdening Keats. And, uh, we would see it in lesson six. When you have a list of possible industries and outcomes vary, a collection of elements can be used. It will be easier to think to what's kind of specific elements and illustrations you may need. The second step is to choose a number of elements that will help you to give an idea of movement and variety. For example, if he wants to represent a flower, it's a good idea to have it in multiple position, such as seen from the top. Or from one side, from an angle on a branch as a Bud grouped with a few others on a stamp, on assembled some leaves, et cetera. I'm showing you here a working process Illustration. These are all the elements I'm going to use for the wedding suite of my own wedding. As you can see, it's not completed yet, but I have made a list of the flowers and want to include, in this case, the flower of my bouquet. And I have represented them in different positions from different angles, etc. This way, I will be able to create a pattern out of them, to arrange them in UK and composition, etcetera. These other example is an element's collection, right illustrated to create a cream tart inspired alphabet. As you can see, I have chosen a few elements. Strawberries, raspberries, boomerang, a macaron, marshmallow, Gerber, Daisy, friend, Japanese, Violet. And I have illustrated them in different shapes, animals and position. Then I have used them to assembly my alphabet, but I also use them to create a matching pattern. And I can use them to create even more buttons. Something that we also help you to figure it out. What you want to illustrate is to have in mind some criteria that are useful for making nice patterns. One of the criteria that are used a lot is variation in element size. I always try to have some small, medium, and large elements. These allow me to use the small ones to fill all the gaps and fit in narrow spaces and to make a more interesting composition. When I say interesting, I mean something that your eyes keep looking at if you use only one elements to create, let's say a polka dot pattern, your eyes will catch it in glimpse. There is not so much to look at. When you have several elements, different sizes, colors, and shapes, your eyes will keep looking at the pattern, trying to appreciate all the details. So for your customer, the result will be more interesting. Once you have illustrated Oreo elements, it's time to scan them. I scan all malnutrition at 1200 DPI. So I'm sure I won't have any problems even if I enlarge the elements. Once my preview is created, I use levels to adjust the background and the color contrast. I'll do it again in Photoshop later, but starting from a pretty good scan speeds up the process. The next step is clean up the file. If you are interested in seeing my process, I have shown it in less than five of my watercolor illustrated Alphabet class. But if you have your own method or you already know how to do it, there is no need to look at the lesson. Once your findings cleaned up, you can save it each element individually as a PNG. I prefer PNG for this step because it's possible to save it with transparent background. Or if you don't plan to use the elements to sell them as clip art, you can just save all of them in a PSD phi with a layer for every element properly needs and with the separate layer for background. Now the final step creates your pattern. As I mentioned the introduction of this class, I won't share here the step-by-step process to make the pattern. But if you are interested in the full process for creating the pattern, I'm going to use. Here. There is the lesson five or the watercolor illustrated Alphabet class. But please note that the pattern I create in the class is slightly different from the one that I'm using here. That's because for that class, my only aim was to create a pattern to fill letters. I didn't need to be repeated several times. Once I decided they wanted to repurpose the pot and use it for different products and modify it to be perfectly repeatable. Here, I'll just give you some tips and general rules that are used to create my pattern. Before going in depth with the patent tips, let's talk a bit about terms just to clear things up. When I say elements, I mean each individual shapes or figure we're going to use to create our pattern. When you see tile or pattern, is the layout we create by arranging our elements. When you say repeat, It's how it's i is repeated to have a working button. When two or more tiles are placed next to each other, you must see no interruption or mistakes in the elements. And if I say block repeat is the most easy income Repeat, it means that you are repeating the pattern aligned horizontally and vertically multiple times. Especially for complex button design, where each styles is already very busy and full of elements is one of the most common choices. So now that we have defined our pattern lingo, let see some specific tips. The first one is, I always start by placing big elements first, then medium, small, and I feel empty spaces with small leaves, dots, marks, et cetera. This will help you to manage the space property and space the elements equally and in a pleasant way. The second thing that I always do is use one of the most basic composition rules. And that needs to keep in mind that the odd numbers Rule in general, when you create a pattern, you will obtain more movement and variety using each element an uneven number of times. As you can see in the pattern that I've made. All the main bigger elements are uneven. Seven violet seven or, and flowers, nine roses, 11, blue, five petaled flower, seven red star flowers. It's not mandatory Of course, especially in patents, so busy like this one, but it helps. And finally, avoid to align vertically or horizontally, the same elements are the same colors. Once it makes it look like there is an stripe and it's probably something that you don't want to have. And then always start to work from the center and then move on the sides in order to have a tie that is possible to repeat correctly, you will need to have all the elements there are interrupted on the left to continue on the right, and the same for the top and the bottom. In Photoshop there is a filter option called upset. You can find it in others. And this option allows you to move everything that is on the same layer on side. So you can move your tile in order to have the left and right sides in the center and work easily on them. And the same for the top and the bottom. It's really a great and helpful tool and it will save you a lot of time. So at this point, you are supposed to have a set of elements and at least one button ready to be used for new products. So let's see how we can use it. 4. Print on demand : Print on-demand. Why? I think printed demand is something that every artist or Illustrator should try. First of all, because it's a form of passive income. That means that once you have uploaded your artworks and set up all your products, you are done. You are going to receive some royalties that are just money you received for licensing your artwork for similar products, but you have to create new things for each customer. You don't have to take care of any of the productive aspects that something really great. If you want to turn your artworks in products could be really expensive to set up the stock, find suppliers and acting websites like societies. Red bubble, flowers do all these boring and tricky part you see first of all, is one in societies six. So you can go here for finding so many friend type of objects. So you can turn your artwork into iPhone case art prints, wall hanging, ocean comforters per pillow, no blankets. Every type of products they are adding new products every day. Read Bible works in the same way. Here I am on the Poincare section, but they provide a huge amount of different products as well. So there are some products that are available on 76 and some that are not, for example, and baby clothes you have not them. May 6 have them on red bubble. So you can just figure out which one works best for. The other website I'm going to mention is pong flowers bloom Flour. Basically it's sort of about Eric's. So you're going to translate your product into the fabric that can be converted in so many different things able to have wallpaper. And _beep refers basically, all the three systems works very similarly. You have loved the art design and you have to treat it on different products. Something that really is that if you are a designer or an illustrator and you are trying to create your own volume. You can have a lot of mockups of products with your design on top, basically for free on societal six. So you see how your intuition and designs and artworks can work on real products. I have some tips and tricks for you. If you want to try to go with societies or any other kind of print on demand website. The first thing that I once pointed out is that you can have one design that you are certain prompts, or in my case, the elements that are drawn. And you can turn into three different things. Translating a huge amount of product. So I have created a pattern or a cluster of elements and an alphabet. As you can see, we have so many different products. Not every type of design works well on every type of product. First of all, a pattern works really well on things lie. All the core section, it works very well. It works nicely in the furniture section, as you can see here on bench bar sues counter, credenza, citable that NBA tabletop. It works very nicely on all these different things like monks costs are serving tray cutting boards in the office can work nicely. Trace and times for no apparent reason. You preview, but it's there. The wrapping paper patterns. Perfect. Not MOOC, it's nice. They Sony stickers. I don't see very much the point. Could be nice as well. Tech. Laptop sleeves works great. It works really nice. Fanny pack. All over. Printed T-Shirt, back, back, tote bag, defiled bag. On these other type of t-shirts? No. It doesn't work with these type of T-Shirt. Reenact long sleeves, who the top and biker tank. You need to have a cluster design. So one piece that can be like a text or an image, but just one single elements or motif or with an alphabet. So something that it's written on, it doesn't work nicely with pattern for the way it's made. It works really well. The patent window on the punch. And it's nice or all these other outdoor and lifestyle things. The other thing that wants to point out is how you can appeal things. So for uploading a new design, you will hear a lot in new artwork. It'll select the title. You can select here what it is that the main artwork that is called the features. But then you can add other seven artworks is my pillow. So if I go here to modify it, the image is basically the right side of the pattern. So here, it's nice. When you see it. You can of course, scaling, scaling up or scale down. You can center it. You can write a preview to see if you're scaling. It's working right or not. But something you can do it here and upload something different. And that's important because when you are creating something that it's meant to go on so many different products, sites, matter. Flowers are nice. On a drop below is rows can be like five centimeter, I guess, something like since I'm here, I'm going to show you here you have the minimum dimension, the requirements, and some tips. So here it's important when you want to tweak. Your product, will just go and see if everything is fine, if you are missing some of that could be a problem because the productive not results very well. So what I was saying is that here, for example, I had to teach it because I cannot use the same pattern, exactly the same, but I have repeated it on Photoshop separately. And then I have uploaded these other artwork. The selected one needs not the featured selected one. So my artwork here, the button itself, it's repeated like eight times, I guess in total. And that's important because it allows you to have the rules. That skill will be something like five centimeter. If I go here and I use this one. That is the standard pattern that I have uploaded and I'm going to use for the most of the things. As you can see here. If I generate the preview, you are going to see how big it comes. So many rules. A set of five centimeter where it's nice and neat and portion. Going to be like 40 centimeter. So the sites, when you apply your pattern to a product methods. And so see how you can like these effects or not, depending it's totally up to you. I prefer to think in terms of how I want my design to look like. So I send me pretty choosy and picky when it comes to the site and the site of each product. And that's why I clothed like a couple of different repetition or orientation of the same pattern in order to fulfill the most of their products. Another thing that I have to mention is that not every products, as I was saying before, look nicely with every kind of buttons. So these type of things are not going to look at all. So these are things that before I put it from draft to public, I'm going to just turn off. As a designer, you have to decide which one actually works and which one doesn't. Something here. So not for all the products, but for the trickiest product, you have the download template. So you can go here and download the templates. Actually looked something like this, and that allows you to scale up and recites properly. So here, for example, is something different from the other side. You can see the other artworks, my featured one and deselect and not showing here, they are not matching the sites that it's required. I usually upload everything at 11 thousand pixels by 11 thousand pixels, I tend to move with the square format because it's the ones that did all the different needs. But for some products like this one, you have to go with specific sites. So one requires a different, like a little bit more. And the other thing that I wanted to show you before moving on, I have just designed the elements and then I create out of the elements that thought there. I'm going to show you how with, for example, with these cluster of my flower bouquet, how differently they look. So here, for example, in terms of artwork, I didn't think I would put it out as an artwork itself with I don't think it's a very much, but it can be really nice in terms of Withrow below the nice on a wall clock. Nice even on the credenza or on the bench. Looks nice even on the bed. Or Bob. What the math is nice for the Cauchy man. Put a coaster. I have scalene muscles. He needs to have one design that can point to be splitting for the acoustic set. So I have just screwed it up. So you will not have the full design in any farts. You have just bits and pieces over here and there. For the cutting board was easily scale it up, erupting paper, something that the type of assets or artwork, it's not work. So wrapping data are positive. The other things are known with work is what I'm going to fix it is to have it properly centered in the middle of the page. And for the phone case, I have applied the same system, so I have scaled. So you can just see a couple of parts here and there. For the fanny pack, that backpack. And make sense here, it's nice you can select the position so you can have a higher or lower, you can decide. And something that can be useful, not all the time, but sometimes it's useful. So basically, statistics works in terms of products that are related. So there are groups of products that are related to the other in terms of how the system thinks that the pattern afterwards in general can work on them. So for example, all these type of t-shirts are considering like they are working nicely or basically in the same way all together. So when you, once you modify something, it will ask you if you want to apply the same kind of mitigation. So the other thing that, for example here they make some sense, makes more sense. Here, if I go in saving and enabled me on how many different things I want to make it. Sometimes grouping of elements are crossing each other. So I have like three or four different products where if you change them, you propose you to change. Also on I can ski not just a t-shirt, so you can think which one makes sense and which one doesn't. So for me in the sense, just the dressing stuff makes sense. All the other things know something that I've noticed. It's holds that when you apply the same modification to multiple amounts of things, sometimes it gets a little bit stretched out, at least in the preview anamorphic, something that it's relatedly, the better merchants studio that I'm working with, that it's the new one embodied, the preview. But I prefer to treat them, most of them individually, or at least I have to go back and check them out one by one. Things that worked very well with the Paxton are not working very well with just one motif. Now let's go back here. Let's look here and see how it works. So the alphabet, it's something strange because I think it can work nicely in terms of our dreams somehow. Not let these probably, maybe I will try to put it all on one line and another line pattern so it will make more sense on all of these different things. These dense doesn't make any sense. The clock, it's nice. The wallpaper, it's not going to work like this. You can create a pattern out of your love alphabet, of course, and that would be really nice in things like wallpaper. Raptor paper is kinda things here. It's going to be pretty nice on the, on the furniture. It's nice also at a huge scripts on the bed. It's nice on the coffee mug and on Serbian train. And for the notebook, the wrapping paper like these mass, there is no point in turning this on the phone. Probably if I change the artwork as it was mentioned before, L, square format can be really nice, heavy care, more sensible for these type of things. Nonsense, but here it's really not. So that's even on the carrier file. It's nice. And on this, it's nice because one doesn't make any sense. So the point is you have four, even if the system is really easy to use. So you just upload something, you just put it on all the different products. If you want to have satisfied customer, he had to go and check each product individually and to have it will have the design that kids would want for that product. And you have to pay very much attention to the dimensions and the sides. So you have to avoid repeating mistakes or backing edges or things that you cannot probably see. So just the preview, but when people won't buy your product, they will definitely see in real life and it's not nice for them. So they can comply and it's not what you want. So that's why I thought it would be really, really help to show you how the same element, sets of elements can be turned into so many different things. So you can have just basically you start with one project and you can turn it on in so many different ways and use it so much. In other thing that I haven't done yet, but you can afford Sue and I highly recommend it. It's to create color variations. Different color pallet can help so much in selling the product because for example, my wildflower here, it's really bright and sunny, cheerful and say, but the same kind of design, it really looks differently in different colors. So for example, when I turned everything into blue, this looks a lot like China. So it's going to be appealing for other different range of people that probably are more sophisticated than they have. Something that its more traditional in the house, but they want something that hits tradition with a more modern switch. So this is something that definitely can help you out to use the same product with the same artwork needed very, very little adjustment. Just a very basic human saturation color, right? Option all over. And you can create different products that are going to be the good match for different type of people. And that's going to be very helpful to maximize your sales and revenue. 5. Wedding Suite: Let's talk now about wedding suites. So wedding suites are something really helpful in terms of passive income and also a great addition to your portfolio. It's a very good use of your illustrations. And that's because people get married all the time. And a lot of people don't want to spend so much money in paying for a bespoke service, but they still wants to have their invitation and Save the Date different from the standard ones. So they want them to be personalized and shown their own personality. So this type of Illustrated wedding suites are something that it's really popular all over the internet and can be something pretty easy to manage. Because once you have uploaded them, basically you can provide two different types of services. You can offer an option where they can just download the file and do the alteration themselves. Or you can create something where they send informations like the name of the bride and groom, the date of the wedding, all these kind of things, and just type them in and send them out. So it's pretty fast. It's not like creating a proper wedding suite from scratch. My advice, if you want to go down this route, it's to create what is called a dartboard on Photoshop. Enact mode is this kind of file him for shop. And it's very useful for several reasons. The first reason is that allows you to see how all the different pieces that are composing the suites look like together. So it's important to see if there is anything that is not matching properly. For example, here in the suite, I have used the very simplest thing that we have seen before. I have just used a UN saturation level to make everything look this kind of Burgundy Scholar, which is one of the colors that are the very popular this year for weddings. It's called cinnamon rolls. I think the training wedding color is something that you can research online and will help you to propose something that it's likely to be searched by your prospect clients. And then I have decided to go for something glittering. There was just an option you can go for. It's nice to have a touch of metal or glitter or something a little bit more special because people like it. But of course you can go for 234 different colors. So here I created these color palette with these swatches and you can write the color-code or name here. Then there is the pattern and all the elements. And for the elements, I tend to create a crest with monogram, some, some kind of wreath or something that can be nice in composition like the monogram inside. In the right size though. Then there is one element and something a little bit more complex, like a small composition or a bouquet. And then I selected a couple of phones. I like the contrast between something that it's very neat and clean, like Missouri. A Sans Serif font and handwriting or a calligraphy font like Elana here. Here are all the different related products. Because in an wedding suite, you can basically put everything it's needed for a wedding. My advice is to select which type of products you wants to create and also to prepare different package. Like for example, a basic package where you have the invitation, the save the date, the menu. Thank you. Note RSVP card and the place card. And then something a little bit more complex where you have more elements like the order of the service or the program. So you can have different price range based on the amount of individual pieces they are going to get with your offer. Then here I have different options for seating plans. So something that can be used as a police car or just for indicating the table. And there is rapper that can be something nice to keep together. Imputation and safety date or indication and meaning. There is an example of the program. And I use the art world not only because it allows me to look at that. Everything looked nice together, but also for another feature that I found very helpful. And that's that if you create an artwork, you can put each product on a different layer than turn each of them into smart object. That means that when you double-click on it, it opens a new PSB file where you can work as a new Photoshop file. Once you modify something, let's do a random thing, just for example, and you save it automatically. It will also modify the smart object in the art world file. So you don't have to replace the product every time you modify them and you can manage only one file is that of a dozen. So that's my piece of advice in terms of using an artwork. Something that you can do is to create some mockups for showing your products. So for example, this is a basic suite. You have deceived the date, the invitation, the RSVP, the police car, the menu, and a thank you note. It's something that can be pretty good for a wide range of spouses. For others, maybe they want more things, so it's not enough. And you can always say that there is an option to also add the order of service, the program discipline plan wherever. I have also added some small details here like stickers for Fleet fevers or for confetti bags or wedding bags, any other small things a bride, me wants to personalize as the graphic itself. As you can see here, I've used the pattern a lot of time just as a border. But I think it's nicer to have just the border in this case. I also use the bouquet. So let's see the composition of different elements for my collection, for the menu and the city date, and for the thank you note. And as you can see for the text, everything that I felt was important to be highlighted. I use the glitter effect on texts. There is just a personal preference in this case, they felt it would be nice to have all the things going in the same way. I have used a couple of times the reef with the name of the bride and groom inside or with the name of a guest. Here, I've used Potter itself as decoration for the name of the table for example. Or here is another option for the same kind of thing. I have prepared a thank you card where you have just the bitter and the same on the wrapper. So as you can see, things works nicely together. They are parts of the same sweet, but they're all slightly different, one from each other. I have used the glitter as a touch, not the main thing, because the main thing for me has to be the pattern and the flower itself in several ways. Having a mock-up will help people to see the product in moralistic way because art boards are great tool for us to work with, but they are not nice to be used on social media or on websites or marketplace such Etsy, Creative Market, et cetera. Of course, I'm thinking this kind of products when I say passive income in terms of just creating each individual file that can be downloaded and personalized and be sent as a digital file. I'm not meaning that you actually create the paper wedding suites. If you want to go that way, it's perfectly fine. It's a great thing to do and another awesome way to use your pattern, but it's no longer a form of passive income and require more work since you have to create each suite for every bride and groom. Another thing that can be good is to use the same kind of pattern by many different car away. So this Galloway, it's very bright and good for full atom with the Burgundy and the glitter. So it conveys a certain kind of feeling. If you create the same sweet, but with, let's say, this one in blue and this one in gold. As you will see in the next lesson for our branding keyed, you will obtain a different effect. It would look like a China. And even for a wedding, that can be a very cool effect. So changing the Callaway can really be helpful for this type of products. And another thing is that if you are going to give the bride and groom, or let's say the buyer the option to change the texts themselves. You should think of the best way to sending them. One of the greatest way for me, it's to provide some files that are editable on Canvas. Because it's really, really fun that the average buyer have access to Photoshop. So you have to provide them a phi that they can easily modify and combines. A very good option for that is that if you want, just send them the finished file, you can go as wild as you want, meaning having dozens of complex layer and so on because you will be the ones dealing with them. So your customers would just receive the finished product, generally creating a wedding sweet. It's a pretty straightforward process because doesn't require a lot of skills in terms of different software. As illustrator, as we will see in the next lesson. In this one, you probably just need Photoshop because when you're sending these kind of things to people will be meaning to use it in the actual sites you send them. So you don't have any necessity to have your invitation or thank you. Card enlarged or reduced. Sometimes maybe they would ask you for a proper seating chart so it's going to be bigger. But in this case they will probably go to a printing shop to have it printer and they probably will ask you to create it in the proper sides. So don't get much stress about deciding you can create the product in the most common sites for these industries in your country. And if people would need different sizing like can happen between European paper sides, NUS, once they will ask you and you can add more option later on, I just want to finish this lesson with a quick note. I structured my class in order to have three different main industries where you can try to use your illustrations. In. The first one, the print on-demand industry, it's the closest to the pure illustration process. So you create a nutrition, you apply it to a product. You will have to learn something in terms of button design and how to repeat your pattern and how to make it look nice. Definitely met it's the closer to the pure illustration job. Then we are moving towards the wedding suites industry, that it's different in industry and you need to have different skills. So you'll need to have some graphic design skills because you have to use phones and you have to use colors in way that it's appropriate for a wedding. And you have to know a lot of things in terms of composition, how to write things, where to place them. And so you need to study these things for arriving. The branding kit where you will definitely need to have a lot of graphic design skills. So I don't feel like all of the illustrator needs become graphic designer to dive into these kind of different industries. But I definitely think that you need to study specific things in order to be professional and deliver a product that it's not just with a nice illustration on top, but it's also a good invitation or a good branding kid. That's just my quick piece of advice. Don't think it's a piece of cake that even if you have never studied anything about fonts, you can just start to create wedding suites and bringing keep because it's not a E will have really unhappy customers. You need to study. And my really great hope is that at the end of this class, you will find there are so many different things you can do with the only restrictions that you will definitely want solar, even something more of graphic design in order to be able to sell your products. And your illustration also used in other industries rather than the pure illustration itself. 6. Branding Kit: Now let's talk about something slightly different. And this time we are talking about branding key. So what is the branding? Keep a branding kit is a kid that needs mates for a company usually, or for someone that needs it like YouTubers. And the branding keep its composed by several elements. Usually there is a main logo, then there are some alternative logos. For example, here you can see that you have your primary logos, then alternative logos. Marx, usually some marks. They can be icons or there can be a different type of shaping the logos. And it's usually good for social media as a profile picture, for example, a color palette, some fonts. And then they can be all sorts of design elements. Then you can create social media icons, patterns. Someone creates mood boards. So it's really up to you what you want to include in your branding heat and you can create different kind of running keep more and more complete everytime you move on. Creating a branding keep compared to the other things that we have covered before, requires an extra sets of skills because it involves some skills are not necessary skills that an Illustrator or an artist have. And those kind of skills are more graphic design skills. So making a brand key or logos itself require a quite good amounts of knowledge of illustrator and other kinds of graphic programs. Because usually your logo needs to be teachable and changeable in Illustrator. And it needs to be a file that you can scale up or scale down be a victorial fire rather than a bitmap file, let's say your customer, both your logo for their business cards, but then they wants make a banner for affair out of it, or they want to make a t-shirt. So you have to create a logo that can be scaled up or down without losing any of their resolution. And that's something that you need to do with a victorial kind of program, not bitmap. So Photoshop is not the right program to create this type of logos. Although even if, if he wants to use your illustrations, such as in my case, watercolor nutrition, you may need to start with touching things with Photoshop and then moved to illustrator to finalize the logo itself and to rasterize and translate what it's boards be bitmapped file into a victorial file. But for the purpose of this class, what I'm going to show you is just how ladies, and how can we really nice to have your illustration news as turning into branding, Keith? And why? Because it's a form of passive income. Because when you create a few of these logos that are already pre-made, you will, for example, on Etsy, you can see how many different logos there are that are ready. Brandon Keeter already means. So let see this one. You can see this, say Molly Fulton photography. But you can see here that a lot of different people have customize it for their branding in so many different ways. So you basically create a logo and a set of other things that people can change with their names and they can change the color for adapting to their brand. But basically you are selling a package that it's already premade and people can just tweak a few things to adapt to their brand, but you are not creating something bespoke. So that's why it's a form of passive income because once it's uploaded, people do all the process themselves. The other things, it's that people like to spend money more for their business rather than use it for personal stuff. And a lot of small businesses and people like YouTubers for example. A lot of time it doesn't have the money to pay a graphic designer for had a bespoke branding keep made just out for them and personalized and everything. So going for something like these can be really helpful for them as well. So they are willing to buy it. You can sell, you're running, keep wherever you preferring your website that are good places for my research for branding Keith R, xy and Creative Market for example. Because there are places where small businesses usually go for buying this kind of stuff. And other thing you may want to consider is to have something that needs to reach boiling Canva. Canva. It's a website that allows people that are not designer to add things and personalize things and create a lot of graphic projects come but doesn't work in terms of victorial file. So if you sell something that it's meant to be used on Canva, people should be aware that they probably cannot split it up whatever they want. And in terms of how to turn your nutritions into branding. Keith, let's start with looking at our sets of elements. So here I have all of the elements that I created. My wish for this project is to use just three elements. So I have used the, these really nice branch of leaves and then I have used these flower here. And I'm pretty sure that I've used one of the leaves, this one. So basically I've just used three elements. And the first thing that I did was try to turn my leaves into different type of logo design. So I use software's for giving a different kind of shape to my leaves. So I turn them into something that it's not so straight at. It was here into something that can make like a rat. And then I use this one for making the flower, for making one of the sub-markets. And then I have used one of the leaves, this one here for creating other type of alternative logos. And then I made a trial with this one, but this one didn't pass the first, the first step. So you can create so many different logos as you can see, there are just three elements here, but I have created a huge variation of possible logos and alternatives of logos for just these imaginary brand at Emory, wedding photographer, a 100 and he's an MRE wedding photographer, button, kth. Sorry, I didn't know that. And something I usually try to do when I create branding Keith is to stick with a reduced palette. So here I use these kind of shades of blue and just the gold. That's because when people buy it, they will need to change almost for sure, to their own color. So the easiest is to change the amounts of colors and turn them in something that suits their needs, the best cities. And the other thing that I create for my branding k0 are the button. So I have created three different type of button. I have these gold leaves. I have made the same leaves in blue, but I decided to go with a gold 14. The official version. Then it creates these small flower pattern and then these red polka dots. So these are three different types of buttons. All of these buttons by way, I create them for the branding keep. But of course, you can create them and use it on society seeks or red bubble. All these things can use in so many different ways. And that's why I think, learn how to think outside the box when you create a set of elements, it's amazing because you create a reduced amount of elements, but then you can turn them in so many different products and obtained so many different results that it's unbelievable. So this is the branding Keith, that I've made. So here, as you can see, we have our main logo. Then there is 3l canteens logos. And then as you can see, they are different, but they work together and they still maintains the same kind of vibe of the brand. And here there are three sub marks. I create a color palette, so the color pallet, usually you, the best thing to do, it's using the hashtag hex code. So it's international. Every computer can read it, so it's the easiest and best way to go. And I have used a couple of fonts. So I have, for the purpose of these, these glass, I've used the same kind of fonts that are used in the logo. It's not something that it's necessary and it's something that a lot of times I don't do. But this time it makes sense to be faster and explaining methods, things. And here there are the three patterns. So this kind of thing can be definitely put on website like Etsy and Creative Market. You have to, in case you want to do it. Usually you have to provide several version of the file. So usually you will have to provide a PNG versions that eats these type of files. That, as you can see, you don't have any background, so people can use it for placing above images or on different color bed rounds. And usually you provide API and also a lot of times you provide PSD files and PDF files. And then of course, Illustrator file and EPS file. That is they are both victorial type of files. I think that it's a really nice way to use your illustrations and your elements, and that can give you a huge amount of possibilities. Of course, every time you switch a little bit the thing, so you change the colors, or let's say that you, instead of these kind of flowers, you put the rows here and you use different kinds of leaves here. And you somethings like a difference in terms of color. You can create so many different rending keyed for different industries. It's really, really helpful and it can become a good source of passive income without requiring you a huge amount of time to creating it. Especially if you already have the technical skills to use in Fraser and victorial type of programs. 7. Project & Conclusions: Thank you so much for taking my class.
