1. Introduction Photos: Hi, Frank C. And welcome to this course. If you have a Mac, you definitely have photos, photos, a free application that comes with every Mac that would allow you to organize, edit and share your photos with these Now this course will cover everything that you need to know about your photos. You will be comfortable in using the application from importing your photos, whether from a camera on external drive, an SD card or phone, then to organize them in different ways, such as faces, places, memories, albums and folders. Photos comes with serious off pro editing tools that will make your forest look stunning. You will also learn all the different ways to share your photos online, as well as creating amazing slide shows, books, calendars, prints and know the projects within the application. And believe me, the quality off the books, the calendars and all the projects within photos absolutely stunning, and they're perfect for personal and professional purposes as well. 2. Updated Overview: Hid. This is just a quick
update about the course, just to reassure you that all the features that
you're going to learn and all the different
tips and tricks about organizing and editing photos are pretty much the same. If you have either Monterey or Ventura or Sonoma
operating system, you're going to follow through this course without any problem. The only things that
you might notice, perhaps, would be the
layout slightly changed, slightly improved in sonoma, but otherwise the features
and the positions or the buttons and everything
else stays the same. As you can see here, I've got my library here on
the left hand side. My sidebar is still
there and I'm using now Monterrey
as operating system. I noticed that in Ventura and in Sonoma there are no
major differences. You can definitely
follow along the course which covers everything you
need to know about photos. You also have memories, people, places, favorite recent, and imports, which
is exactly the same as you're going to
see throughout the course. The media types is where
you're going to see all different categories
of your media, from videos to selfies, to live photos and all the rest. You also have the shared
album section where you can share your photos with the
family, with your friends. You also have the
section for my albums, which is a customized
section that you will basically populate
with your favorite albums. Also, we have the
project section down below here with all
of your projects. At the top, we have
our zoom slider. You can just move it left and right to make your thumbnails
bigger or smaller. You have also in the center
here, you got years, months, days, and old
photos view as well. Also we have here on the
top right and corner, the information button
about the photo. When you press that,
you're going to see the information
about your photos. You're going to have
the share button and we're going to have
the favorite as well. You can mark your
photo as favorites. You can rotate the photo. Of course, if you hold
down the old key, you can go back to the opposite side. You
also have the search. Now you might notice that
in Sonoma or in Ventura, you might have more
option to search, perhaps because they
implemented AI, might recognize more
objects within the picture. But if I go here and
I search something, it will search for whatever
I want to look for. For instance, if lo clouds is going to show me all
the photo clouds, et cetera, et cetera. I'm going to go
through this through the course. Do not
worry about that. The other thing you
need to know is also this little filter here on
the top right and corner. Same again to the older version, but it's here and
it looks like this. These are all the difference that you need to
know in terms of the aspect and the
visual side of things. In the following videos, I'm going to show you
the updates of Monterey. I'm going to mention
also other updates of Ventura and Sonoma if
it's worth mentioning it, but rest assured that the rest
of the course is going to be perfect for your
current operating system. I hope you enjoy and I'll

3. Import from Messages: With the new updates. We
also have the ability to save our photo directly
from our messages. If someone send you a photo to your phone and you
want to save it into your library quickly, you can just go into your
messages on your Mac, you can just grab the photo
here, you can write Click, and you can click on
Add to Photo Libraries. When you do that, go to your photo library. And now the photo will
be added here on the recent if you want to
see where the photo is. By the way, if the photo
has a different date, it's going to be sorted
in a different position. But the quickest way
to go and check is to go to recent here
on the left hand side. And that's where the photo is. That's what you
need to know about the new feature in photos. Hope you enjoy it and see

4. Text recognition in Photos: With the new software update, they've been implemented
new features in photos. If you have Monterrey Ventura, Sonoma Operin System, you'll be able to enjoy
these new features. One of them is the text detection within
your photos if you are a travel photographer or
if you want to be able to grab some text within
a picture, you can do it. Now one of the best thing that I found out is that you can also highlight text
which is not canonic, Roman text or standard letters. If I go into this picture here, this is being taken in Kyoto, Japan. I can actually highlight
this Japanese text as well. If I hover the cursor over
one of these letters, I can actually see the
cursor changing to a text bar instead of
the normal cursor. I can come here and
can highlight the text as you would do into a Word
document or into a PDF. Now, I can simply right click and I can do
all things with this. I can look up for it
perhaps on the dictionary. I can translate that. I can also search on Google. I can copy it and paste
it into a text document. I can also share it with
one of these options here. I've got also options to
some services as well. Now if I want to translate
that I can click on Translate now. It's going to
translate to English. This is actually says
the film promote the recognition of Sang the General of the
tenth middle school. These are all different
companies that offer their little door
here to this temple. I can highlight any of this, I can just go to
another one here. I can translate there and find out what it's all about,
which is pretty cool. I don't have any English text
here or any other texts, but you can do pretty
much the same thing in any other images
on your library. This is a great feature in
the new operating system. Help you enjoy it. And I'll

5. Overview in Catalina 10.15: When you first open photos in Catalina, you'll notice the layout hasn't changed. But there are a lot of things that being changed under the hood. First of all, need to find out what version we have and what version I'm working on so you can follow through. So I'm using the Catalina operating system. So if you're going to the apple on the top left hand corner and click on about this market , you'll find out what version you have. But you need to have a Catalina if you wanna work through these videos and his 10.15 point four. This is the latest version by the time I'm recording this video, so make sure you have at least 10.15 to fall from. The photos version is 5.0, so you can find out this by going to the photos on top here, going to about photos and you find a version he had ample. Oh, it's five point. Oh, you might have a previous version you might have. If you have Catalina, you definitely have the 5.0, you might have a latest like a Nike newest a version. If you have that you might notice something might be different, but I will make sure that update these videos So everything's gonna be up to date and I'm gonna show you all the different features and all the things that is going to be added into this version. So you notice everything is pretty much the same. The layout hasn't changed. You still have the library on the left hand side with photos, memories, people's places, etcetera. You have your shared section down below here for your iCloud photo sharing, an album sharing. We have Albums section here down below, which actually has two different kinds off folded. One is media types, which is populated automatically by photos, so this will basically categorise your photos and videos according to their type. So whether you take videos, selfie, portrait, panoramas, time lapse, etcetera, they will be automatically populated in this area here on my albums. You have, of course, your custom albums. At the moment I've been created any album yet, but here's where you actually create albums and create collection the way you like and down below project is still the same. You still be able to create books, calendars, cards and anything else here. Marbury mind. Apple does not print their books anymore. That calendars, they discontinue this several months ago, and now you have the option to down lower third party ups. But if you have the cursor over any of these items, you'll notice you have a plus button there. And you can still create books, calendars, cards, etcetera. Now you have the option here now to down with the party up. So I'm gonna be showing you this later, but it is still possible. Let's go back to photos here. Other things you might have noticed here on the top, right corner. You still have these usual suspects patterns. You have the information button. So if I highlight a photo by clicking on it and click on the I button on top is going to give me information about that Father, if I live these little floatie windows around, I can go to another photo, and it was gonna show me all the information about it as well. Even location keywords, etcetera, except I'm gonna be showing you this later on as well. The other thing we have yet is our share button, our favorite, and our rotation as Well, now there's a lot of machine learning artificial intelligence into the new photos, and this is probably a run as smooth as I have a scene photos in a machine that is not even the latest one. This is a five years old machine, so it works very well. There's an I Mac 2015 so it runs very, very smartly. The other thing we have here is the search this usual to artificial endangers. So even if you haven't named attacked your photos, it will always search for something within the photo. For instance, if I search for a with clouds in it, it will What type clouds is gonna find all the photo with clouds in them, which is pretty cool and other things for its trees. And now we're gonna have collections anymore. There usedto have that. But now we have old follows days, months and years. I'm gonna be showing you this in a separate clips as well. This is one of the major changes in terms of layout, but the rest is also under the hood. And I'm gonna be showing you also what they change in the iPad as well. Another little feature that they added into the new photo is this button here on the top left hand corner. So that allows me to actually change the view off my pictures into square view. So no matter if the photo is like a panoramic photo of video with automatically zoom in into the, you know, specific area within the picture. So because is using machine learning and artificial intelligence. So we will do it that automatically, or you can go back into the normal view. And that will keep the photo and the panoramic photos as well with their original crop, which is also another way to view your photos. You have, of course, is the zoom in and out here to assume your photos. And again they use a nice, smooth transition when you do that, which is pretty cool. Now, if I top on any photo here and I want to edit it, I can just press the return key on my keyboard, and it will jump into the editing moat and you notice here, on the right hand side, you have the usual suspect. Again, we are all the different tools to edit your photos, which hasn't changed. That is always the same. We still have our just filters and crop on top. And if I press the return key again, it goes back to the normal view Now. You would have done that in previous versions of your computer, such as Mojave, who high Sierra by just doing command a return to go into the editing mode. Now you can just press return and it goes into edit, which is pretty pretty cool and other thing you can do. You can double click on a photo or double top, and you'll see you have now the edit button on top, as well as the announce or auto adjustment to which is there and the rest is still the same . Second click on Add it to go back to my addict mode and press done once I finished, so that is pretty much the same. But I'm gonna be showing you more in future videos off what they actually change and made these up even more fun to use and very fast also to run.
6. Photos 3 (High Sierra): now in this video gonna just give you a brief look off all the changes and other things that they added here in the new version. Off photos on the side by here we have our library with photos, memories, favorites, people, places, imports. And also we have my photo stream. So that depends if you have enabled the option in iCloud. I'm gonna show you this later on in the class. Then we have a section for shed for sharing pictures. Then we have albums, and now we have media types, which are albums created by the up. And then we have my albums. You actually create albums as well. Then we have projects where we can create books, calendars, slide shows, cards, etcetera at the top. We have these four bars where we can actually see the pictures and photos in moments in collections and years and on top right. We also have a bunch of buttons dead end as well. That will let us see the information off our pictures to share the pictures, to mark them as favorites to rotate them and also to search them this new version of photos . They also added days filters feature here on the top, right? But it's as showing all photos. I'm gonna show you these feature later on, and now you can actually organize and sort your pictures. And it's refined your pictures using these filtering system in the new version off fathers . They also added other tools for editing. So if I double click on a picture and I go to edit on the top right here, they have all these tools now on the right hand side. So if I just close them all just to show you how they look, so they definitely implemented more tools, we have our selective color here, which is one of my favorite tool on. We also have curves, and we have retouched red I white balance and more and on top here. We also have these three buttons to adjust to add filters and to crop. So as close this and let's go back here and in general now, Forest looks more complete that used to before, and now we have more control off organizing our pictures off reddit our pictures and to view them in all different sort of ways. In the following classes, I'm going to show you as much as possible about these up. And hopefully after the end of this course, you're going to love these up as much as I do.
7. How to use the exercise files: everyone. Welcome to this class when I'm gonna show you how to use the exercise files. So once you've downloaded the exercise files or uniquely was simply double click to unzip it and you should be able to see a folder cold exercise files. Thank you. Double click on the folder to open it up, you should be able to see two items. One is the exercise photos library. Yes, of basically giving you an entire library to play with. You find more than under photos here to play and practice with. And also, we have a folder that we're gonna use later on the class when we're gonna talk about how to import photos from a folder. So once you've done that, make sure that your photos library is quit. If he's open, you just right. Click on the icon down below on talk and click on Quit Fees open. Then you double click on the exercise photos library, and you should be able to see all these goodies all these photos so you'll be able to follow along for all the classes. Now, these library You might not look exactly the same as mine during the course that is because I started a library from scratch by importing several pictures. But I included all the photos that I'm using throughout the course so you can follow along . I really encourage you to use your own photos. But if you want to just practice, use this library and have fun with it. And it's you in the next video when I'm gonna give you a brief overview off photos, so you in a bit.
8. import images from external drives: hello and welcome. So in this video gonna show you how to import images from an external folder. In this case here, I've got a folder on my desktop, which is my Morocco 2012. Now, I could importance folded by simply dragging and dropping the folder inside the library. But I'm gonna show you another method. So if you're going to photos on top, left here on the file and go to import now when it clicked that you're going to see the finder window and I could go to the desktop under my Morocco 2012 so I can see all my pictures there and I can click on review for import When I click, they're going to see all my pictures within that folder inside my library. By the way, I'm gonna just resize this to make it slightly wider. Now, I've got a few options and top. So if you see on the top Ryan corner, I've gone option to import all new photos or import selected. So if I want to import more, just click on that and I import mall. Oh, I can just select the one I want by simply clicking on them on. When you do that, you have this blue tick appearing on the image so I can do that. I could be very selective and select only the one I like now. Another option of goal here is to keep folder organization. What that means is, if I organized these pictures into the folder here, externally into a certain order, it will keep that organization. For me, it is very, very handy. Otherwise, just leave it unchecked. The top left, you'll see the name of the folder in this case is Miracle 2012 and the center of Got another option of the ad. And now with the new photos, which is import to it, says Library, Of course or new album, I can actually create a new album and important into one of my albums here. Now, very mind. When you import the pictures into the album, there will be imported into the library as well. I'm gonna explain about the hierarchy of your photos later on how to organize them. But at the moment I'm gonna create new album directly here. I'm gonna name this album Morocco 2012. After I do that express. Okay. And now I've got a folder called Morocco 2012 here on the left hand side and I'm ready to import so I can click on Import 12. Selected or important is up to you. I'm gonna import only 12 click on import and now the picture will be imported into my album . So that's the way to import from an external folder or from an external hard drive. If you have that connected, the next video gonna show you other ways to import your images into the library.
9. importing from camera or Sd card: and this class, I'm gonna show you how to import pictures from a digital camera or from a card, the memory card. Now, I've got memory card that I can plug directly into my Mac. So if you have an SD card, for instance, you can plug in the back of you. I'm ac on your laptop. But if you don't have a card reader, you can just get a card reader and then just blood the memory card there, Or just leave the memory card inside a digital camera, apply the digital camera directly onto your Mac. So I'm gonna just black mine in on. I should be able to see my camera popping up on the screen. So it is. You can see here on my desktop about my count on 70 and something happened also in photos on the devices here on the left. Inside, I can see the memory card as well, so I can actually forget about the that stop. I'm gonna just resize my window here, and I see the same thing I saw before when I was importing from a folder. Now the only difference is that if you see on the top left. I've got another option. He have got open photos for these device. So if I take this box every time I plug my digital camera onto my Mac photos will open automatic, which could be very handy for some of us. But in this case, you want to have complete control of what's happening on my Mac. So I'd rather have that ticked off. So I then decide what to do after I plug my digital camera into my Mac at the top. Right now, we also have another option. We have delete items after import. So if I take that box, photos will delete the pictures from my camera after they've been important to my library. So you can also do that if you like. Otherwise, you can uncheck that box as well. I do leave these unchecked because I want to be able to delete my pictures from my camera directly because I can format the memory card directly from the camera, which is better at the top of God again. Import all new photos, import selected in this case, I'm gonna import all of them, and I'm gonna create another album here at the center. I can go to import to and I can go to new album. And now I'm going to name the album Canon 70 and I'm not just press OK and import old new photos. Now all the new photos have been imported, and now they're nicely organized into my abu. So that's the way to import from a digital camera off from a SD card.
10. Importing from iPhone: and this lesson, we're going to learn how to import images from an iPhone so only to lose him, replied my iPhone onto my Mac. And when I do that, photos will automatically recognize my phone here on the devices. I've got my iPhone, Frank Siphon on the iPhone itself. You're gonna have a message to trust your computer. Just stop on trust. Otherwise, if you don't trust that you're not gonna be able to import pictures. So after you've done that, you just click on your iPhone on the left hand side, and you should be able to see all your pictures loading up. As you can see, I've got quite a few hundreds of them on that. I can just go and select only the one I want. And as you can see on top, I've got the already imported, so photos will automatically recognize what pictures have been imported already. So I'm not end up having duplicates so I can go here and just select the one I like. And after I do that, I'm just gonna select a few just to show you how that works. Just select few. And after I done that, I can just go into import 13 selected. I've got also an option to delete items after important this case, and then I'll just leave this unchecked. And I've got also another option in the top left to open photos for this device. In this case, I don't want to open for us every time I plug my iPhone in. Then I'm gonna leave these options off and again on top here. One of the best feature in the new photos is to create a new album. So I'm going to create a new album here. And I'm gonna call this, um, Japan, um, trip and click on OK, and are likely gone. Import 13 selected. Cooled. Now my pictures have be imported, and now I can unplug my iPhone, so I'm ready to work on them.
11. Importing using Airdrop: another great way to import follows into your libraries by using airdrop. Now, you might have some photos that you took from. And I found all a friend of yours who has an iPhone or any other devices that has air drop in this case, an apple device who you can actually import them using that method. So I happened to have my phone with me and the fact that these libraries No, my main library, and it's just the exercise files. I might want to import some photos into it. So I've got bunch of photos here I want to import in my phone, and I'm gonna just select them into my for library. So I'm just using my phone at the moment, I'm just going to select the capital photos, and I'm gonna use the share button and air drop them to my Mac. So I'm gonna top on my Mac on my phone, and it should appear now on my Mac that we go on the top right corner. It just tells me that some four has been received from my iPhone and I can either directly open them or can go down to my download and see them here. So that's where they are. Now, if I'm going to my download, I can go straight down below. Here. I can click on open in Finder so I can see my download folder and finder. And I can see the father that I just imported. Which this too. So if I want to import them into my library, I could go into file and important. Why can drag them into the library as well? So in this case, I'm gonna show you the same method by going to my library. Going to file. Go to import. Now, I know that these photos are into my downloads folder. I'm gonna go to the downloads folder here and again if you don't see them straight away. So especially if you have a very crowded and download folder, you can actually go into the sorting order on top and sort them by date, edit, and then we go. And now I've got them at the top, so I can actually highlight them all by using command and select him. And now I can just go into a review for import, and I got them now. Here. They're not duplication. So I'm ready to import camel, and that's I'm going to click on import all new photos, and that's where they are now down below here. So this is the other way to import your photos using airdrop, which is a very handy feature, especially if you want to import a bunch of photos straight into your library or like a video that X quite big. And perhaps you can have a cable of the time to plug into your Mac. You can use definitely airdrop. So as you notice after you imported your photos, we are under the imports section here. This is going to show you the date you imported the photo and not necessarily the date off the father. But if you want to find out them into the date order, you can go back to photos on the old photos and that you'll see them here sorted by date. And as you can see that so they are so use. Airdrop is very handy feature and quick also to import photos and videos into the library
12. Importing from a browser: by now. You should have a good grasp on how to import pictures into your library and how to synchronize your various devices with it. Another way to import pictures is from a browser, for instance. So if I opened my browser and its casing on open Google Chrome, I'm gonna show you how to import pictures from websites. So it's a I'm gonna search on Google for landscapes, pictures, not a Stipe landscapes. I'm not gonna go into images and just block that and click on images. So I see all these images and it's I want to save one of these into my library so I can go to something like that on. I'm gonna click on it, and then he is gonna show me the resolution. I can just choose a different picture and you see different resolutions that let's try this one here. And if I want to import this Aiken, just directly drag and drop it into my library. So that's the easiest way to do it. Oh, you can just go back to the browser and you can right click on You can save the image as and then downloaded into your downloads folder I can do that as well. Save and then I can go to my down lords, grab the picture and drag it into my library that way. So that's the way to download an image. And now photos is clever enough to recognize when you have duplicates and says here, Would you like to import the following duplicate photos? In this case, you have got there already, so I can just click on Don't import, so I will only have one. This is one of the way to download and import pictures from a browser to your photo library .
13. Using iCloud: another way to import photos into your library after the easiest way. And one of the reason why I use photos the most is using iCloud. So the fact that you have a Mac and you have photos and you also have perhaps an iPhone or an iPad or another Mac will allow you actually to sync all of your photos across all of your devices without importing them manually. And one of the way to do that is by using iCloud. So let's find out how to do that. So, first of all, if you have a photo into you phone library, you might wanna have that photo into your Mac as well. If you take a photo from your iPhone or iPad, you might wanna have that photo sink to your Mac or to the other computers. You have a home as long as the apple, of course, and you have I cloud enabled. So if you want to do that, you can go to the system preferences in your machine just to find out if your iCloud is loved in, we're gonna go to the apple sign here on top, left hand corner. We're gonna go into system preferences. Let me just minimize the far library in the back by using the yellow button. And you can see now the ability is all the way on top before used to be somewhere here on the left inside. Now they moved it up here so you can click on the apple. I d here and you notice. Now you have your ability signed. And if you see your name that on top with your email, you are logged. And of course, very mind. Mind is great out Biggers off his reason. Other want to show my email my personal email. But just to show you that that's where you should be able to see your email, it's there. And the overview off all the things that you can sink for out your apple devices or here. So you you notice I've got quite a few things. And of course, I haven't checked photos because this is just an exercise filed that I'm using. And also I don't want high for us to be sink to your library as well. Just be quite annoying. So I kept that unchecked by If you use your Mac for the first time Or if you thinking to have your photos, your iPhone photos and any other devices photos into your Mac, I would probably suggest to take this box on the photos and make sure that is enabled. For once you do that, you'll be able to then sink. You'll iPhone iPad. Oh, any other device into your Mac so all of your photos will be imported automatically, which is the beauty of having iCloud and Apple devices. So let's assume this is ticked. Once you've done that, you also needs to notice something. You have iCloud storage down below here. At the moment. You see, I've got 200 gigabyte because that's what I pay for every month. But Apple gives you five gigabyte for free. So that is something you can use for backing up your photo and will automatically back up your photos as soon as you have from more than you know, quite a bit off photos into your library, especially videos and photos together, might take a lot of space. You might need to upgrade your iCloud storage in case you wanna have your photos backed up into the cloud. Otherwise, I'm gonna show you it's another way to back up your photos. You don't have to necessarily pay a subscription, but I would suggest to do that because everything will be saved automatically. So you don't have to think about what's happening to your phone in case in your get broken or gets stolen or something. You know, touch wood doesn't happen by if it happens, your photo will be saved into the cloud. So this is the first step. You need to find out that that photos it needs to be checked. That's the first thing. Now we're gonna go back to photos, and we're gonna go into photos on the top, left hand corner on the preferences. So here you'll see you have two taps on top, your general and iCloud. So in iCloud, all I suggested do is simply tick the box that says I cloud follows. So once you do that, you have two options. The first option is to download original to his Mac. So if you wanna have all the originals saved and stored into your Mac, use that option off course. You make sure you have enough hard drive storage toe fit all of your photos. Otherwise, if you are a laptop user in you have limited space on your hard drive. You might want to use optimize max storage. So what that means is you're gonna have a lower resolution photos into your Mac. You gonna see all of your photos, but in lower resolution, And whenever you want to open them up and added them, the iCloud will download that photo into your Mac. So you be able to edit the photo and, you know, see the full resolution of it. So this is it works very well, but make very mind, you might need to buy, like, a subscription off, you know, extra storage you might want to buy on I cloud. He also have my photo stream. So this is the North technology, actually. So if you have an older Mac, you might actually use that These actually allows you to import for us automatic into your library that you take from your phone. But if you use iCloud photos, you don't have to use my photo stream. This just in old technology that is kept there for all the users or users who have very old machines that they want to still use the iCloud and sink their photos. But for new users, you can actually use iCloud photos for share albums. This allows it to share albums and photos with other friends and family. So if you want, you can also take that box as well as you notice. My iCloud was already locked in with my account. So if I, for instance, tick this box, I should be able to see the shared section populating here in photos. So there's gonna take a while because, of course, if you have lots of photos, you might want to wait until they go render, do they? You're loading up. They all load up into your library. And as you know, is now I've got a shared album. Now that I take this box, I've got several albums in my shed section. So that's why you see this shared album section here. So if I click on that, for instance, now you knows I've got lots of different albums and they all automatically appear and populate as well. So let's go back into our photos preferences. So I'm gonna uncheck that so you're not going to see them again? So take this box and this box and you off to the races. So you are fully set up. This is the best and the easiest way to use your iCloud. So you don't have to worry about backing up. Your photos, I found will do the job for you. And it will sink all of your photos from your iPhone iPad into your Mac.
14. Using iCloud Photo Library: in this lesson, I'm going to show you how to use iCloud and how toe have all of your pictures synchronized throughout all of your apple devices. So if you have a Mac, an iPhone, an iPad or another Mac, for instance, you might wanna have the pictures available everywhere. If you are one of those people, well, keep watching. Otherwise you can go and skip to the next lesson and these lessons here, we're going to cover iCloud. And now, to enable this feature, this feature is called iCloud for the library to enable it, we have to go into photos on top left. We're going to preferences, and we're gonna go into iCloud here on top. Now, my iCloud is already signed in. If yours is not signed in yet, or you need to do simply sign in, make sure you put your Appalachian password in and you'll be able to see these men. You. If you want to sign into iCloud, you can also go into the apple sign here on the top, left on the system preferences and on the iCloud. You should be able to see your account with all these items. One of these items is photos. Then you were going to options and you should be able to see three options. The 1st 1 is I can't fault library. 2nd 1 is my photo stream and then we have iCloud photo sharing. Now, in these last time, we're going to focus on iCloud for the library. We're gonna skip photo stream and photo sharing for the following videos, so make sure that 1st 1 is sticked and click on Done that we're gonna close system preferences. We're gonna go back into our make photos and make sure the iCloud for the library that is on as well. So when you enable iCloud for the library, you're gonna have two options. The first options is to download originals to his Mac on what that means is, whenever you download pictures, this picture will be stored on your Mac on Lee. So if you have plenty of storage, which is the first choice, the second option is optimized max storage, which my computer is set in. With these option, your pictures will be still imported into your Mac. But as soon as your storage gets tight, photos will automatically upload some of your pictures all of your pictures onto the cloud , keeping a light version of them compressed version of them into your Mac just to optimize storage, which is a very clever way to manage your storage. So I'm gonna leave these option like this, and I'm gonna keep the rest as it is and click on the red button. Now, if you want these pictures to be synchronized on your iPhone on your iPad or any other Mac device you to make sure your iCloud is signed in there as well, I'm gonna show you quickly on my iPhone how I set up that. So if I'm going to my settings iPhone if you have one of the latest model or one of the latest update on your iPhone, you should be able to see your name above airplane mode, top on your name and then top on iCloud. My case you have got previews us. So I have to scroll down on the right cloud a top when iCloud and I see my name with old these options down here Do you notice I've got all these switches. If you want to see the same switches on your Mac just to compare where you have you have to go into the apple, sign on the top left on your Mac and click on system preferences, and you go into iCloud and you should be able to see the same options that you see on your phone as well, so make sure the photos on your phone is on. So if I top on your photos there, I've gone option to enable iCloud for the library for a stream and for sharing as well. So the same as you see on your Mac. Make sure that basically the iCloud photo library is also enable on your device. If you don't want to see these pictures in your device, just keep the iCloud for the library off from your phone from your iPad. If you want to see all your pictures again, you just turn that on. So that's the way to find out if your iCloud is signed incorrectly. Once you've done that, you pretty much ready to go. You don't have to import pictures every time you take a picture from your phone from your iPad. The picture will be stored on the device as well as in the cloud, and then it will be downloaded into your Mac automatically so you don't have to use any cable. Everything is done through iCloud. A very important note is that I cloud for the library is a free service up to five gigabytes off storage. As soon as you run out of storage on the cloud is going to ask you to upgrade to a bigger plan. So you're gonna have that message popping up on all of your devices. So do not worry to find out what it is. As soon as you rattle storage, it will tell you to upgrade to a bigger storage and you can find out war options. You go. I think the first tier is 50 gigabyte, which is around 99 cents a month is no expensive. My again is still something you have to pay. But if you wanna have all of the pictures or synchronized brought your devices without having to deal with cables, um, you just use iCloud photo library in the next video gonna show you how to use my photo stream, which is another method to synchronize your pictures without using the iCloud for the library option. 15. Using Photostream: and this video gonna show you how to use for a stream as an alternative to iCloud for the library. First of all, we're gonna go into photos on top, left hand corner on the preferences. I'm gonna make sure that we are on the iCloud and we also turn off iCloud for the library and then we turn on my photo stream. If you turn both on, it's kind of redundant because they do similar things and there's no reason why you should at both on at the same time. So turn on my photo stream, make sure that all the other devices as well have my photo stream on. So I'm gonna go to my phone just to show you how to enable my photo stream. I'm gonna go into my settings on the iCloud, make sure you're on the iCloud and on the photos you should have the same settings. Make sure the iCloud photo library is off and my photo stream is on and you are in good shape now for a stream will sink your recent pictures. So if I take now a picture from my camera and let's a take a picture off my miles here and press the shutter. Now, if I go back to my photos to my camera, I see my camera will as my mouse, and that should go into my photo stream as well as soon as I do that, if I go back to my Mac magically about my mouse there as well imported. And that's what my photo stream does now for a stream as a limitation off 30 days up to 1000 pictures. What that means is, if I take a picture today and I don't open my Mac photos for more than 30 days, that picture would not be imported automatically. I would have to grab a cable plug my iPhone or my iPad into my Mac and important manually, so far a stream as a 30 days imitation up to 1000 pictures. Don't forget that. But if you choose these method other than iCloud photo library, you don't have to pay any subscription because I call for the library. In a nutshell is a free service after five gigabytes off storage. As soon as you run out of that storage, it will ask you to buy more storage in the cloud, which will cost you a little amount every month, but it's still something that you might want to avoid, and in that case I would use my photo stream instead.
16. Converting Old libraries: So let's talk about previous libraries and how we can open them in the new photos in Catalina. Now I've got here. Bunch of libraries, old libraries. One is the aperture library. Just got the same format as an eye for the libraries. You might have I photo, which is a very old version off the photo for Mac. Oh, our picture, which is the professional version that now has been discontinued. So you might have one of those libraries with lots of pictures in them. You might want to use them as well in Catalina. And I've got also a photos library which come from an icy era operating system. Now, if I want to open one of this, I only do simply just double click on them. And I was gonna ask me if I want to open this library for the first time. So if you want to show it, you can actually show it without converting it by for breast Open is going to update this library toe open in the new Catalina operating system. Very mind if you do that and update the library, you cannot go back. So make sure that you are sure you want to have that into your new computer? I don't see why you wouldn't want that by breast open. I was gonna update the library. Very mind. This is a very small library you might have under the photos. And there we go. Now the library is ready to use in Catalina. A simple Is that so you're gonna have to do anything else. And again on the left, inside, you're gonna have your albums. You're gonna have your projects and anything else that you actually saved on a previous library. You might see something different, of course, but your photos and video will come up here. And of course, you're gonna have days and month and view and you notice also in days down below here, it's starting to analyzing your photos to make sure you have the better view on these category on top. Let's close these library now. So now you noticed this library is being updated. So the next time when I open it or you simply double click, press open and the library will open straight away. If I'm going to close this now and open an aperture library. So this is even older version off photo If I double click there again is gonna give me the same message here that I'm opening it for the first time on a press open and now is gonna update that library as well. Now, I've got a new old computer and I actually create this library on purpose just to show you , you can show when all the libraries and again you have them now operating in a new system. Now, if I now close this library, you'll notice what happened now on my screen. Now, I've got a new file that is actually the same as my aperture library here or I for library . Few had I photo for this library here that has been murdered and updated within this single file. And by the way, your for libraries are self contained. File So means that everything is within one file is like a package full of photos and older than the things all the project that you did as well with the aperture and I photo library which are very old in the scales, like a very like few years old, it will create a new file equivalent of that. So if that library is, for instance, 100 megabyte. That library will be the same size, if not less so if you want to trash the opportune library that you don't use anymore. If you don't have any other old computers to open that library on, then I will probably carry on with a new one. Or if you want to, just keep that as a back up. You can definitely do that and just put it into an external drive and keep on using the new updated version. So that's what you need to know in terms off dealing with old libraries for your Mac in the new system, Catalina.
17. Creating separate libraries: if you're using photos just for your personal photos or if you decide to use just one library that pretty much what you need to do. We just need to open a library like this and start to import your photos in. By the way, I'm gonna show you how to import your photos in a separate video. But you might wanna have a separate library, for instance, for a project you're working on or, for instance, you might want to have a library for work related stuff you might not wanna have your personal photos mixed with, You know, your business, your work or a project that perhaps you working on, which implies a lot of photos. Lots of importing. So instead of cluttering one library, you might wanna have separate library. I'm gonna show you how to do that in this video. So I'm gonna close this library here, and I'm gonna go into my find it down below here. So click on the finder and let's go into your pictures. Now we're going to pictures. You notice I've got one library, which is the one we working on our exercise library. This is called Catalina Photos Library So these libraries, that one that I'm using now, whatever. I want to create a new library so I can go down into my doc and under photo before clicking on for you. Hold down the option key or the old key on your keyboard and click on photos. So what that does it will open this dialog box where you can actually create another library or open are the libraries if you have others. Now, I've got my Catalina for library, which is my system for the library. And I'm gonna show you what that means in a second. And I can go in to create a new library along Click on that. So now I was gonna ask me to name the new library. Let's go. Let's call this. Ah, and work, library, work, library and press. OK, I'm going to just leave it in my pictures folder. That's what I want it press OK? And now I've got a blank vanilla library which I can actually use for my project, and I can start to work on it now. If I want to close it, I can close it the same way I did. And if I open it back again. Down below, into my doc is going to open the last library you've been dealing with. So if you want to switch back to the other library or, you know, do it simply just closed Library, Go back down here, hold down the option key and press the follow. And then you can go back to your system for the library and click on Choose Library to go back to the other item. Now, let's go back to our work library for a second. So now I've got a here down below. If I double click on it, it's gonna open straight away. So you don't have to press option key each time to switch a library. If you know that your libraries are in the picture folder and they are both here or you need to do is simply double click on the one you want to open and it's gonna open automatically. Now. Our system library is the other one we had before. When I mean by System Library is that that library is sink to your iCloud account and also will be backed up A swell. These work library at the moment is not going to be backed up in the cloud. So you need to make sure that you know that. And also, your shared section here is also disabled, so it's not linked to an iCloud account are too. So make sure that you know that as well. So now again, if I want to switch back, I'm gonna close this library and double click on my Catalina library and he goes back here . Of course, my shared pictures and albums are all here. So this is my main library. Where is going to be also synchronise with my for an iPod and other apple devices. So make sure that you know that now, if you want to find out which is your system libraries, if you're not sure if you end up having, for instance, two or three library or more. And you forgot which one is my system library. The easiest way to do that is by going down into your talk under the photo hold down the option key. We're back to our main one. So this is how you can create separate libraries and of course, you can put them into external drives. You can do also stuff as well. So you're gonna have to actually mix up and clatter one library with everything in it. You can actually have separate work and be more tidy.
18. Photos preferences: Okay, let's find out about our obligations. Preferences. So we're gonna go in the top left hand corner on the photos Anchalee con preferences on the preferences. We have two tops. We have the general top and the iCloud top. The iCloud section in preference is something that we're gonna cover later on in the class . So do not worry. Just stick around with me, and I'm gonna cover all the you need to know now the general top as library location, which in this case here is in my home folder on the pictures, which I suggest to keep yours as well. If I want to see my library in the finder, I think we can show in Finder to see it. The other button is used as system for the library. At the moment is my only library available. So that's why is great out. If yours is not great out and you want to use that library as your main library, click that button so your iCloud will be linked to that library. Then we have photos and we have an option yet to summarize photos, makes the collection and years more compact and shrink. So I would probably keep it is on. She's easier for you to view your pictures in a glance. Then we have memories. Way two options. We have show holiday events, which is quite nice to have them on. So memories will automatically create is nice slide shows and it will group all of your holiday pictures together. It just quite nice and not keep that on. And what do we have? The show memories. Notification on which I'm gonna keep that on as well. And then I've got the importing option down below, which is sticked. So what that does it will copy the items into your foot library. So if I copy pictures from an external hard drive from a USB key or from ah, phone, it will make a copy into my photo library here. I will probably keep this as it is, because otherwise you cannot share your photos in the iCloud photo library just to be quite good to have them on. Then we have meta data, and this is unchecked by default. So this will allow you to share your pictures and will attach also the geo tagging. So the map location, the title that you given in your library, etcetera. So if you don't want to have that shed, the the the rest of your friends and family, or to someone else, then I will probably keep this unchecked. Then, on the print products stores I will keep. My country is United Kingdom. If you was the United States or any other country, just you can change it here. So that's what you need to know about photos preferences. So make sure you have all the settings in order, and then you ready to go to the next lecture.
19. Badges, Square mode and symbols: in the library that I provided for this class. You might have noticed that some of these pictures have some sort off symbols in the corners. So you notice, for instance, this picture here in this temple in Tokyo. You have this little tag on top. That is a key word. So if you have the cursor over any of this symbol, it's gonna tell you what it is that one is a actual keyword or another image like that. As these three lines here. That means that that picture has been edited. Or you might see tag he on top left. Which says, for instance, here age. The other is a picture that I took using in the HDR mode on my fund. You might also notice you have portrait. This is a picture took with portrait mode on my iPhone again. And these little pain here means that there's a location, a geo tagged because, of course, the iPhone and iPad has the GPS Sergio tagging functionality. So I will locate your photo. But a soon as I import something, I'm gonna be showing you also another symbol, which is the J peg and raw image as well which is gonna appear somewhere here on the photo . So if you want to find out about the follow itself, can just stop on the photo and go to the I button here on top to find out the location to find out. All the information about the picture can also right. Click on the photo by just doing the right click of your mouse. If you have a track bed, you can use the two fingers and click or top if you have the topping mode and click on and get info. And yet you have the same function that you see here on top. So that's why you need to know in terms off symbols and again, you also have the favorite, the little heart that appears when you have the cursor over any of this. For you have this little heart here, the bottom. So if I click on the little heart, you'll see the Favorites section will appear on my library on the left hand side. My library as favorite, I'm gonna show you how to do that later on in the class, but that's what you need to know in terms off symbols and all this little I can t you see on the photo, that's what those means, and we can expand on that later on as well.
20. Years, Months, Days View: Now let's talk about the major update that we see on the layout in Father's Now on top, we have these four tops. Now they changed in all photos, days, months and years. The 1st 1 from the top right is our old photos. And here we can see all our photos, all our videos as well and all the panorama photos as well and all the other type off pictures that we take with our iPhone and also with our A DSLR camera or any other digital camera, and they sort of in date order. So you got the latest one at the bottom here. If I want to see any of these pictures all into this incredible top to open up the picture and again, I've got my battles on top for when I find out about the picture beauty, I button that let me know what camera use what date has been taken, etcetera, etcetera, and I can double top to close it. So this is just a standard view. The other view we have these days. So this is something that has changed new photos. Now we have this lovely view off days and the machine learning and the artificial intelligence off follows will automatically pick the best pictures in that specific day, and it will show them here in this manner. So, for instance, here for this the water she in Japan has picked up certain photo and it magnifies them as well. The one that he thinks are better to view and to be, like as a cover, these actually lovely. So he just chosen the 100 I like, which is good. And also, you can see if you scroll up here that some of these photos actually videos, so you might see life photos as well. This is actually a video, but it will play automatically, so it looks very beautiful. Actually, it's quite nice to quite pleasing, actually. The goal for the pictures and see if someone some pictures actually animating automatically . So other things you could do here is safer. Scroll down here. Got more pictures on this trip in Japan. I've got these ellipses here on the top right hand corner, and that allows me to actually either play this bunch of photos or show them in the map. If you have a mouse, you can still double, top to double click to go closer to the map and you can hold it, click and hold to move around. That's pretty cool. I could go back here on the top left hand corner, got this little error that allows me to go back to this library. The thing I can do, I can actually play a video. So this is what is gonna play a slide show, actually, and it will choose music as well. So let's play that for a second. So it will play that video as the Steel is going to go through all the different images with a nice music and the video. It will stop it. It kind of takes the best best shot. Let me just make the volume. The volume down 40 and it picks up the snippets off each individual clip to make it a nice slide show, which is quite nice. Let's go back here so you could do this by just going through the days. And it's lovely the way they did it. It's quite nice, just automatic. So if you score all the way down and you have a big library, especially if he is the first time you launching photos, you might see down below here a progress bar so minus finished Obscuration complete. But what that does is it Will basic has come through your photos videos as well and it will make this nice cover this nice view for you. The next one is month at the top here. This is just another view off your month and this again is automatically populated with this pictures. Photos will automatically pick of the best photos for you on it will make it this nice view off a month. And again if I go to the ellipses here on top, I can see that that month and the month view as well I can go back. I can also, of course, double top. If I want to see all the pictures from that month and now I can scroll through them and see them here. And when you do that, it will automatically jump into the days. If I want to go back two months, I would have to click a month and go back there. So if I click conference since this photo here in Orvieto in Italy, I can double top there, and I'm gonna show me that photo in the days of you. I only have that photo for that event for that day. But if you have multiple photos, you will show you more for us as well. So this is month and then we have years and a top you have. Now, here's view 2016 17 18 and 19 for now. But the more you have, of course, the more is gonna take to elaborate your library. But once it's done, you have this lovely view, and then you can actually double top to see the photo inside the month you double stop again and you see them in days. 21. Using Tabs (High Sierra): Now let me walk you through in these video on all the different aspect. All viewing in photos. Let's start from the top on top. We have photos, moments, collections and years through. There are several ways you can see your pictures now on. The photos we can see are pictures sorted by date. If I screw up all the way to the bottom, I can see the latest pictures I took. Plus, I see the total pictures that I've got in my library. Process the videos, and if I scroll up here, I can see all of them kind of group them by date, but it all kind of mashed up together. I can also go into moments any moment. You can see your pictures sorted by date and location. So as you can see here, I've got several pictures that I took in Japan weighed the date and the location. And if I scroll up here, they're all kind of sorted in a moment or in events, almost so. They grouped together by events moment I can see them all nicely organized and grouped together from going to collections collection will organize your pictures the same ways as moment. But you're gonna have a broader view off your libraries, pregnancy, more pictures at one glance and then I've got years. So if I click once on any of these pictures on the years against actually go back into collections and if I click again into one other pictures, it goes back into moment and again, If I click DoubleClick one of the picture, it will open up the picture itself. One of the other feature that I like about photos is that if you open a picture, I can actually see down below all these thumbnails so I can actually click and hold with my cursor here to scroll through the pictures. Or I can use of the direction keys to go left and right to do just another gay to my library. That way, if I double click on the picture anywhere it is going to close the picture, I can also use the space bar to open up the picture and space bar again to close it. Now, these option here to view thumbnails down below is under view. And as you can see, I've got several ways to you. My pictures. But one of them is to show thumbnails. So now says Hide, son, they'll buy. If I click on there again, the thumbnails will disappear. If I click on view again on the show thumbnails, they will re appear here on a nice little feature of God. Here is explores. If I click on Explore is going to scroll down to the page. I'm going to see the mop where that picture was taken and also other related pictures down below. It's very nice the way Forest organizes your pictures automatically if I want to scroll old way up on, go back into my pictures here, so I couldn't I can double click that to close it. So this is the way to view your pictures. So you have photos, moment, collection and years. I usually use moments because it sort out my pictures in date and location as well. And the next week I'm gonna show you a little bit more about viewing your pictures using the Saipa
22. Exploring the Sidebar: on the side. But now we have the library here always available and we have photos. What? We see all our pictures here. Will the photos sorted by date again? I'm under moments, but I can go back to photos if I wanted to Quite like moments. So I'm gonna leave it into moments then I've got memories, and this is a new feature of God in photos. These creates slide shows out of my pictures, and it will title them automatically. So as you can see, I've got best off the year 2017. I've got these other ones down below, and if I want to open any of this in simply, double click on it and I can just scroll down and see what the key pictures are from the holiday. So and this is something that photo does for you. It's quite nice, actually. The way they put the pictures aren't together. And also, if you keep on scrolling down, you see the places, the maps and other related photos as well. Kind of neat. And if you want to go back, I can go on the top left to go back to the previous view. this is memories. And I also have an option to create favorite memories as well. I'm gonna show you these later on anyway. So I'm gonna go to favorites now. And these are all the pictures that I marked as favorites that I've got people. And these was Kanye Library to find faces. Now I just marked some of them with some names. But if I want to mark some pictures with the name, I'm gonna show you also that later on. And I've got places so I can see my mopey. I can scroll drug my cursor anywhere here on the map. I can zoom in and out the map by going at the bottom right hand corner here to zoom in, go out the map, and I also have an option to use the three D. So if I click on the three d, I can just make them up in three D. This is will change according on how far you are from the map on. If I want to zoom out even more, I can see more pictures in my mouth. I want to have been one of these in just double click and is gonna open the event this way , for when I go back, I can click on the left arrow on the top, left organ, click on places to go back to the map and I've got imports and this will show me the last imports. And then I've got my photo stream here. This is a feature you have in iCloud. You can enable you can turn on and off, depending what you want to do. Then we got shared. And this is something that you also need to enable in iCloud to share your picture with friends and family. And then we have albums. And now with new photos, we have thes media types, which is a folder that is automatically created by photos. And if I click on the triangles to see what's inside, I can see these are all smart. Albums have been created by photos automatically, and these comes from my iPhone. In this case about videos, selfies, panoramas, screenshot. You might have also live pictures, etcetera or port trait and others and other types. Then we have my albums. If I open my albums, I could see all of my albums, and this is just another way for you to organize your pictures into albums and folders. Gonna spend some time to organize our pictures, using folders and albums. And then on the project. We can create books, calendars, cards, slight shoes and print that you can order directly from the photos up and apple as a company that prints out books, calendars and it's very beautiful the way they done it, and you can order directly and they delivered to your address. This is just to give you a brief look off the sidebar. The next week, I'm gonna show you more about these battles that we have on the toolbar on top, and we're gonna explore all the different ways you can view your photos.
23. Exploring the toolbar (High Sierra): Now let's have a look at these battles that we have in the top right hand corner into photos. Now we have these I but understands for information. So if I click on any photos here and I click on the I Button is going to give me information about that photo, I can see the date, the location, the name and even the camera that I used in this case. I used an iPhone six plus, and it tells me also what focus I use during that shot spring. Eat in. Close that, and I can go to the share button here on top. These are all the different ways you can share your photos if I want to mark that photo as favorite, I can click on the little heart here, pattern on top to mark its favorite. Or I can also hover the cursor over the picture. And I've got a little heart at the bottom left hand corner off the picture so I can do that hovering over any picture. It will reveal the legal heart, and I can click on it to mark the photo as favorite. Then we have the rotation to, and this now is always available in these views. If I click on it, it will rotate my pictures. I can also highlight multiple photos. Together we'd command. So I'm holding down the command key on my keyboard to highlight several photos. And then I can go to rotate, and if you notice now, they will roll rotate at the same time. It's very, very useful to have it. They're actually This was a feature that was available before in the previous versions off photos, and they removed it in the previous version, and now they added back again. And then we have the search feature, and this is a very, very useful feature. Now the search in photos as a sort of, ah, artificial intelligence. If you type an object such as on a cake, it will search all the cakes within your library or, if you search for trees. I can type trees here, and it will search for all the different trees within. Your library will automatically have a category for trees, and it can also search for keywords. If you ever name any picture with the name tree or if you use a keyword on any of your photos with the name trees. It will find that name throughout your library or if I type a name in type any name here. Say, if I told my wife it will come up with all the pictures with a I'm going to explore the search later on in this class. But just for now, just that you know that you have a search option there. We also have these other feature that they add it as well. Which is our filter and feature would allow me to search certain photos with certain criteria. For instance, if I want to search all my favorites within my photos for go back to follow see on the left inside I want to search all my favorites. Now, the difference between these filtering system and these other fields are in here. So I've got a favorite here on the left hand side and I got a favorite here. But the difference is now on the filtering, I can actually add more criteria. I can also search for favorites and edited pictures at the same time so I can search all the favorite videos, for instance, by taking this too option, I could also create several keywords by going to the keyword manager. I'm gonna show you these feature later on as well, but this will make your life much easier when you want to search for specific pictures within albums as well. Let me go back to old photos at the top left hand corner. We have these slider that zooms your pictures. If I could drag that old the way to the right and will soon your pictures old away. And if I drag all the way to the left, it will minimize them to see more pictures on the screen. So if I go back, let's say into photos and I want to make them bigger. I can just put this lighter all the way to the right to maximize the size. You can also assume within a photo if I double click on a photo and I want to zoom in.
