1. Intro: Hi, I am Emily. I'm an artist, Senate illustrator. And in this class, we're going to make a wall. Art art is an amazing way to express yourself and show your individual. Um, and Waller is a great way to do that, where you can decorate your home with a statement piece that says something about you. And another thing, every, like art is that is a great gift for friends and family. And Waller is great for that, too, because you can personalize it. Um, you can have it be big and bold, bright and colorful or subtle and monochrome, and it still is tailor made to express that person or that style that you want to express. So in this course, I'm going to show you ideas and inspiration for different has a wall. Art and I also give you tips and tricks are using procreate. I am very excited about this, and I hope you'll join me. Thanks
2. Tools and Inspiration: Okay, So to start out, you need a tablet and, um, some kind of stylists. I have an iPad, an apple pencil, and you need to have the procreate. Um, and you need to obviously have a tablet that can handle running it, huh? For this video, we're gonna look at some inspiration. So I have a couple boards here on Pinterest. Um, and I'll put these links in the about section so you can look him up. But just to give you a little inspiration about different types of wall art, you could have things that are super simple hairs, like so breaking colorful Pinterest is really amazing because you confined just inspiration on anything. You can type in any subject that you want to display any feeling or mood. And and I'll come up with a bunch of different stuff from the web. So yeah, this the wall, our inspiration, one that I made see it can be that could be a hilarious thing to put in a kid's room, and it would look so good, or you can have some really classy looking things. This one's very elegant looking with the moons. And it's so simple, Like to make the phases of the moon. I would not even be hard to draw. And then I have a quote part one to that I also put a link to, and I chose a lot of shorter quotes because they tend to make a really big impact. Um, but we're gonna do something where we use, like, two different fonds. And we can try out some textures and stuff like that just so you can see that impact you can put, um, onwards, um, even by just using different, um, sizes on your image or you make it really fun. I really like that one. That one's a good one. So yeah, so that's just a little bit of inspiration. And, like I said, up with those there. So go ahead and take a look at those two links that put up and, um, and get inspired before we get started.
3. Choosing A Quote: Okay, So for our first image will do quote art. So for this, you're gonna want to pick a quote. I had a time. That is probably 3 to 5 words long. Of course you could do while our with a longer quote. But for our purposes today, we're gonna do something short so that contribute. You can make a big impact with just a few words. Um, so to get started, I'm gonna open up this pretty app called over. And its main purpose is to put text over pictures. But I use it to transfer text to procreate because procreate doesn't have a text tool like Photoshopped us so hit, create and then transparent. And the first size is just the square is 2048 by 2048. And that's big enough for our purposes. If you need something else, obviously you can use different size, but because I'm just using it to transfer over, this is fine. So I hit, OK, and then we put in our what I'm gonna do is embrace the pandemonium which just kind of suits my life right now with my kids and just embrace it. Um, so I'm gonna start with the first part of the quote and, um, make it so we could see it here. Um, Because I want to do it into term funds. So I hit. OK, And then what we're gonna do is get another text box here, and we'll do pain moaning. I could see you could see that one too. All right, No. Here for your response. I can just scroll to the funds, which is so nice, because you can kind of see an example of like, I want you want it to look like this comes with a bunch of preloaded funds, but you can also, um, download of the funds I've downloaded some free ones that I found on the webs that are free to use for any purposes which I really like because you don't want to get in trouble with using somebody's font, um, that they deserve credit for. So for this one, I'm gonna do something really bold. And then for this one, I think I would do more of a curse. A fee? You that curse if you want. Yeah, I kind of like how that looks, so I'm gonna give myself a little room here. I click, OK, And safety photos. Now it's in my photos on my iPad and we're going to go to procreate now for this. I'm just gonna make a a new document that is in a pretend. Because I know that's what side I want for my wall. And this is gonna be working Great. If you know what size you Obviously you could make that size. Uh, if you are unsure, I would go, uh, bigger just because you can always scale down, but scaling up distorts your image. So a bit tense gonna work for me, and I'm gonna go to our little toolbar here. Image insert a photo. There's my photo right there on their way. Now, what I'm gonna actually do with this is make it kind of like a masking fluid so into a new layer move of active hunt hit, select. And then look, you could see if I take it making invisible can see how it has mass that. So if we go to this second layer and they go and I choose a color that I might like and I'm just gonna use, um Nico room, which is a textured brush that comes with appropriate. But again, just like the fonts, you can find all kinds of free brushes on the web that give you all sorts of different textures and, um, styles on. That's what I really love about from grade. So there, if you see, I'll take off the select bound and actually put it back on. So I show you something else, um, two fingers tap is undo. I'm gonna take it, make a dark color, and I'm just gonna touch on the bottom here. Coming a bit older, More texture, a bit of a break. Yeah, I really like how that looks. And then I'm going, Teoh, make a new layer and select this again. And now we're into the bottom word. And I want to do different color because I think it feels like a bigger impact with two for colors. You know, this'll about take this and that. I think that is a great example of just like you can get impact from just simple. Two different policy. Different colors in it, Um, kind of brings you into the picture and, um, makes a statement for your wall. Um, and the next lesson will do another quote just to give you a difference of what you could have your quotes look like.
4. Impactful Quote Art: Okay, So for the second piece of quote art, I'm gonna show you one that has really nice visual impact by using one or two words. So we're gonna start by opening over again, and we're gonna type in our word here, and I'm just gonna use the word adventure. I'm gonna do capital locks here. So what I wanna do with adventure is I want to kind of make it like this. Only I'm gonna have event beyond one bend, the on one line tour beyond my baby. So because I'm going to separate it, I'm gonna leave it just like that. I'm going to see much my photos, and then we'll go to appropriate get another eight by 10 and answered that photo they would go. How much? Now I'm gonna put each of these parts that I want on separate layers, so I'll take my last So guy here, Get that Haiti, wrangle it. I use three fingers swiped out, cut and paste on. I'm gonna do the same thing. What's the median? Go take it down. Three fingers could pissed, and now they're each on their own layer and tow. Line them up properly. I'm gonna go to our toolbar here, go to campus and put on a drawing guide and drawing guide is really nice because it gives you the middle of the campus. I'm gonna added it show you could mess with a red size. So if you really just want the very middle, you can just do four quadrants like that. I'm gonna do this so that I have some, um, top lines and bottom lines here so that I can make sure I get perfectly centered. Done. Well, there's are drawing guys, and I'm gonna take my A de here center. Then I'm gonna take my feet. So center can this last one. That's pretty centered. Okay, We'll put those back together because that's still gonna be my guy. And I will make a little bigger Line it up on those lines straight on the canvas. Good. I take off my drying guy check and see a little better. All right. So what we're gonna do here, this again? We're gonna use it as a guide, So I'm gonna, um, take down the capacity, make a new layer, and, um, I use this fun dry ink brush because it is a cool texture as well. And I've got this orangey color can What I'm gonna do, because I'm just gonna use this as a guide. Basically make my own letters, give it more of a hand drum you. And so if I do that, um, 10. I make this my own without using eating other funds free or not, And it makes my own. So I'm gonna speed through this show. You guys okay, so they go. You have your own hand written looking are any can even add, like little embellishments. Kind of make your words have a bigger impact. You'll see a lot of that Examples, like gave you just little doodles even around The words you have can make a huge impact How it looks on your own, I think bigger All right, There we go. And I'm gonna show you a cool trick to To add a shadow. What we're gonna do is duplicate this layer. Go to the bottom one, click on our little adjustments Top compu shut saturation brightness Take the brightness all the way down Black adjustments top again. Gosh and bolder. Track that over. You see, the the shadow can be as big or small, and then I'm gonna drag that layer. And let's just lighten that a little bit. You go moving both. Just century along more here and there. That looks like a great piece for your wall. Um, and that gives you that visual in touch.
5. Expressive Image Art: Okay, So for our image, wall art, um, I would suggest doing a really simple image for what techniques we're gonna use here. And, um, in my inspiration, while I should get a lot of different simple images, a lot more line drawings. And so we're gonna do something along that lines. Um, we're going to start by opening procreate on this time. I'm gonna make, um 11 by fort change hair. So I want a bigger impact and that it goes while into having to call in your home. You know, the bigger the picture of, the bigger the impact. Although you can make quite the statement with a small little thing to either way. Um, So I got 11 by 14 and I'm gonna go back over here, and I'm going to go to this website called Unspool Ash, and I'll have a link to it in the about section, but on splashes a bunch of free images. Um, and I'm going to do a draft. I quite like animals right now. And if you have an iPad, there's a school trick. You can Sometimes it works. You can swipe up, and you can take this here and then I can take this image. It's a free image too. So I'm allowed to have it and drag it right over, and it copies it to my procreate. No one close that on appropriate can see Peritus. No, I'm not gonna use the street image. What I put it to is I'm going to trace it for its impact. Um, this one's quite fun, and I rather enjoy wall art. That is fun. So I've got a new layer and I've made this picture opaque, and I've got the drying brush again. I just got black here and I won't go along the lines. But my draft here, I just got trace him. Here we go. And I quite like his. We'll talk out, so I'm gonna keep that. That part about this is being a part you don't want as part of your finally mention does not have to be is you control of what it's gonna look like. All I want is a basic outline. It doesn't have to be perfect. I think a lot of people, when they're doing their work, get hung up on how, um, it closer looks to the original. How perfect something has to be. I really am in the, you know, imperfections, air work, making its own piece of hurt. Okay, I'm gonna take that is I hear because I really what? The eyes part of this nos. All right? And then on a new layer, I'm actually ended spots, and I will show you why, but I'll kind of fast forward through this bit because I'm just gonna trace the spots so that and fill them so that I have his spots. - Okay , so there. So we have a really great draft about life, and there's his spot. So you see, there are separate layer. So what I find what takes a picture from being just, you know, a picture of a draft is to add a little bit visual interests that a little bit. So I'm gonna go back to unspool ash here, And I just checked in teal e a good one. And it's gone here to procreate. So you couldn't really find just about any type of texture to add a little bit of interest . So this have a break here, and we're gonna take that spots, We're going to select it. Go back to my teal three fingers down copy and paste. And this is the magic. If you make this go away now, our spots are Teal and I'm gonna do it again so I could get the whole I'm draft here, so get teal layer back up here. Collector Spotnitz, go dr and select a draft layer again. The spots here, actually, three fingers come in fixed. Okay, let's take that. I see how I have these two layers and I made sure that we're my lung where it didn't cut off in spots. You see it cut off those spots. But what I did was I took the other one and I felt in the spots, So there's no awkward lines of where it is. You, of course, conceal your texture or whatever to bear smaller. Um, but now I have this cool giraffe that he gives it even more impact those lines because it's got this cool texture and it's a very simple idea, but you can honestly see that hang on. So I think it's a very cool technique that you can do as well
6. Stamp Pattern Art: So for this 2nd 1 um, I'm gonna show you how to make a stamp so you could make a repeating pattern because that's often seen all our You'll see that in some of the inspiration I gave you. So here, let make another 11 by 14 can procreate, and I've been open. Okay, I'm gonna help it flash again, And I just search for pictures, and I'm gonna take that over to work. Great. Just hold it down, drink it over. Don't appropriate. Back up. And now take that be. And I went We do see opacity make a new layer. I've still got my dry brush, But again, there's so many three brushes out there They just play around different textures and types to find what works best for you. No, just kind of Tracy outline of this little guy. Obviously. Make your pictures free hand. This is just a cool tool to be able to, um, get the line. Do you want on the image you want? So you carry it retreated and make an impact with it. I was gonna kiss wings bigger here. Okay, That really people to see them as I make this estate and I'll show you what that means. You're Smit. So where Somewhere Do not I am going Teoh even reduced capacity of my black one there. And I don't take my cool race tool. I'm gonna go in, creates extra lines. And what I'm doing is I'm Greece from that block. Um, image I made two give you with you all the details. - As you see, as I go out of the image, it will create a full line. Full details, like okay, lines of this back in. All right. And so it takes away. You were left, this little guy, and now what we're gonna do to make it stick is we're trying to good image. I'm sorry. Share J Peg can just gonna save the image. And then I will go into my brushes and I have a stamp, and I'm going to Okay, that and for witht step image of that answered that no big I just made. And no, I have a stamp brush that isn't me. So we'll make him disappear, and I can It's gonna make a new layer. That's what me, um and what's me about this? It is because I can now make our being in several different colors and repeating patterns. So if I duplicate him, take over hue saturation. Greatness can be Kimmel being be on little teal. You're probably be on Do the impact of 300 again. Yeah, make this one English orange being and go I repeated Find B on that could make a really big impact from your wall as well.
7. Completing Your Art: Well, thank you so much for joining me for this class. Um, like I said, in the beginning, the great part about making your own bed of wall are is just that you have thes really impactful images that are personal to you or whoever. You're gifting them, too. And there's something that you can print at home or using online printing service. Like you could use Staples or Kinko's. Or, um, or something nicer, like, wh you see, or Shutterfly or something like that. Especially if you're giving a gift. You could do something like that And all of these air Really simple and really approachable for the average person just like me to use. Yeah.
