About This Class

Over the last few years, video creation & sharing has exponentially increased. However, lot of people who have the content, are still not doing it because they feel it needs expensive equipment, team, locations and time.

I have been creating video content since 2007 using humble equipment and space, and producing results close to 80% of those created with expensive professional equipment.

This course is to share those humble and cost effective equipment, as well as tricks-of-the-trade, which will allow you to create professional looking videos without burning a hole in your pocket, by teaching you to build a simple and low cost studio at your own home and start creating video content.

1. Hs 001 Introduction: Hi, I'm Dr. startup idea and I'm going to be your instructor for this course. This course is about a small home studio, which is very cost-effective. And it will allow you to shoot all your YouTube, Instagram, as well as course-related videos. It is meant for people who are doing just contained, deal with it. If you're, if you're into outdoor shooting or if you are into fashion and design kind of videos, this may not be the best setup, but this is ideally suited for those who create content, which is to be listened like on my YouTube channel that the content is about medical conditions and their treatment in Skillshare hybrid courses as one of the ones you're seeing right now. So these kind of videos are best grade inside our studio. And I have got a very small space, just about 30 square feet, in which I have constructed the whole studio. And I'll be showing you this embedded thing which is cost-effective and yet it fulfills the purpose of creating a professional grade video for you. Thank you. 2. Hs 002 Class Project: As a project for this class, I'm going to request you that you'll take at least five pictures of your home studio or your setup in which you make videos. Bigger picture of your camera, your audio equipment like your microphone, your green screen if you have one, that space which you use. And lastly, the editing software that you use. What all of these five in sequence rate maybe about a sentence for each and upload it here as the predicts section. Thank you. 3. Hs 003 Casual Tour: Hi guys. I'm just going to give me already short and quick tour of the home studio that I have a very small space. So this is on the space that I have. If you can see, it's about eight feet by six feet. What I have done this, I have been going half the world is green. You can see this is the invite for the ceiling and up to the bottle. Very good, hot as far as beam. So that I can use it as a green screen. On this side you can see my 50. This is the tripod. I have two of them. By using this wet I use fly using the mobile phone. I use follower of warning though we got cabinets. I have I have some smaller tripods also lake these ones were being this one aside. And then this is plus, this is my microphone setup. This is the smallest Samsung, which is a condenser, might be just but both cardioid as well as unmarried features. And this is an operator. This is the arm football for you go and this will be flexible on for the mike. And in addition, I have this shelf head because this horse, my Mac, when when I'm using a teleprompter, which I'll talk about later. So behind me is the green screen. I usually place the leg, leg this and opposite me. The microphone's the styling for the, for the camera, the place for the telecom to run my book. So this is low, very small for-fee, practically by six feet. Setting for my home studio. 4. Hs 004 Green Screen: So in this section I'm going to talk about the green screen that I have gotten my studio. I'm going to move this camera, which is an iPhone, through which I'm shooting right now, a little bit up and down so that you can see the entire extent. It will be a shaky video, so please be ready for that. So as you can see here, I have been did the oil rate from bottom up to the ceiling in the vehicle. But this I have done with the intention that this wall with the green color is going to serve as my green-screen. Now why have I chosen the 11 thing is that it's cheaper. I can just print it once and it's optimist here. Second thing is a green screen which is made of glut, is broken during cooling. It is prone to having those wrinkles in the fabric which have a shadow under them when they're late for us from dark to light. Now also you can see my shadow hair when this shadow I can easily remove because it's a big shadow and it will be taken care off in the chromatic. Secondly, I don't have to put it up every time and under particular glut, this one green-screen works for me all of the data. Now, in case you are not able to have a green screen ago I did. You're not able to have a wall. You are not able to have a glut. You're not able to have a foldable portability and screen. The Lawford works for you. Then I can also tell you that you can make a virtual green-screen, which can be used as your background and using the desktop computer software. No cost 0 cost of making that. But of course there's a trade off that when you use that went to, I went to read screen. You are your resolution of your videos goes a little bit down. So at the cost of the Compromise of the video, you can have, well, now, why would you want a green-screen and compliments that resolution of your video? It's only for emergencies. Maybe you add all. Those may be you are living in a hotel, maybe you're traveling somewhere else and there is no ready green-screen available and you need it. So in that case you can do that. And if your individual video is a little compromise and resolution, you can always make it smaller and it will look more dense. So probably the view was off your video and not notice that much of a difference in that in that resolution. But the point being that in emergency, you can still have a 12, a green screen. Hey, So have you wondered if you can also make videos like with the min, where you are just scanning as a cut out in front of a running video from behave just like I'm doing right now. If ps, and let me explain to you how to do it free of cost, using free digital tools. The basic equipment required for this sort of thing is a green screen. As you can see in this photograph, that there is a green screen where the Veda lady is standing in front of it and just making gestures. While, as you can see on the screen behind the computer puts the image behind by cutting off the green screen. Now the problem people will have is you'll have to purchase a green screen, which is quite expensive. You also need a studio and a room and everything to set it up. Then you need to put the right set of lakes on it, because of which the illumination of the green screen is variable at different points and your computer may not recognize it uniformly. So it's quite a hassle and it's difficult and it costs money. So instead of using a real green-screen, we're going to use a digital green screen and let's see how to do it. Let's go to the step one. I went to my browser and I searched for green screen sheet cord. And they came out with these results on Baghdad goal. And I'm clicking on green spin color-code, which is hash 000 be 140, Alice click on this link. And what you see now is the exact shade that the computer reads as a green screen and it will help you cut it out. You can also see the various codes that are dead, but you need not really worry about those codes because we are just going to copy this color into PowerPoint. Now, I'm going to open my PowerPoint. So now you can see I have opened my PowerPoint. I like just given those so that I can have PowerPoint and the browser side by side. And you can see that the green screen is right on the right side. Now, now I want to fill up the screen column in this particular box, I say Shape Fill, and I choose more fill colors. And instead of choosing a color, I'll just go to the drop shadow with which I can just copy the exact color which is there. I have done it. I say, Okay. And now you see that this particular box has got that exact color, which is used as a green screen. Now what I'm going to do is make it. Slideshow. And now that it's under full screen, I'm going to take a screenshot of it to create a green screen for myself. Then I've taken a screenshot. And as you can see, the screenshot is exact same green in color. And I'm going to use this as my background for the recordings. The second step now is to insert this green-screen in Zoom, which is usually used as video conferencing tool, but we are going to use it as a video recording tool. So let's insert this green screen in Zoom, which is again a free tool. Now you will see that I had my Zoom app open and man Zoom settings. I go to backgrounds and filters. Hi, in this background and filters I just select one more image for use at a virtual background. And in this image, I use the same screenshot which I had taken. The green colored screenshot. We tested that and we added. So the moment I have edited, you can see that my background has become green. And now zoom is going to record me with a green screen background for doubt the usage of any external physical green-screen. Now one way to show you how to test this, just start a new meeting in Zoom. So you can see a new meeting started. I am opening the video and the audio. And there is nobody else in this meeting. And you can see I have a green background and I start recording this meeting. Even though there's nobody else. For the purpose of this video, I have muted audio, this particular recording. But you can see I can put myself on one side and I'm speaking and there's a green screen behind me. So Zoom is recording me with the green screen. Now I'll stop this video so that zoom will have some time to convert this particular green screen recording into a video for me, I say end meeting for all. And Nussbaum says that it is converting the meeting recording. So as you see, a meeting recording has been created and I'll test it out for you. You can see that I have been recorded for Lee with a green screen behind using Zoom, a free tool. Let's come to the step three. Step three is to import the action video with you want running in the background and your green-screen video into a single video editing doing. As I promised, you can use free tools. In Mac, you can use iMovie, and in Windows you can use Movie Maker for Windows 10, all the paid tools as well as most of the free tools contain this kind of feature where you can remove the green screen. But these two are the mainstream free tools that you can use reliably in both systems. So let's see how we can do it in them. As you can see, I have opened the iMovie and I have imported these to reduce. This is the action video on which I want to commend. While the other is the green screen video, which I have put as a layer above my action video. So you can see in the beginning it's only the wounds that are running and the moment that conservators, then I appear with the green screen and the background is not visible anymore. So let us see how to remove this green screen, but, and let the background video come up in that step four. And now I'm going to show you how to remove the green screen from laptop earlier videos so that the video laying underneath that layer is also visible as a background to you standing in front. I selected the video and I'm clicking on this button which brings up cutaway drop-down and select green, blue. And the green screen has disappeared. And as you'll see now, I'm in front of the video and we'll play it to check it out. So while my video retains the green screen now you can see that I am appearing in front of the action video. I can save. And you can watch the video from behind while I am as a cutout weatherman standing in front of the video. I really hope you've enjoyed this video. And now you know how to record over them and video via your cut out the standing in front of an action radio behind. And all lists can be done using free tools without the need to buy any green screen. 5. Hs 005 Tripod: In this section, I'm going to show you that tripod stamp and a dash two different points. 10 is the remainder. And iPhone or no, which since it I know I'm shooting it on that. So I'm going to show you on my B-roll, you can ravages moment books camera, so it has hair. And now you can see, so I have this tripod and this ring late. This is the formula for Northern Iraq asked regarding labor. And this is the iPhone. This tripod is fairly big. As you can see, I'm just for linear trend for you can see I can expand it. And these legs are collapsible. And this is a fairly cheap equipment. I have so many good quality tripods also. But this one in particular is fairly cost-effective. Now, the ring late is also very cost-effective. It will hardly cost to something like $10. And I followed him. Holder comes along with it. I fought. It will cost you will be ready for new cost you. One more thing I wanted to show in this great quote was, here, you can see there is this level, this level one country's ever could tell me if my play park is standing flag or not on the crown. Also sometimes use this kind of an iPhone, and this one can be attached to the bigger tripod. Also, it's important for me to see if the level is flat on the bottom horizontal Lisbon lists were taken away, but he couldn't median to use. You can just plug it into any USB and it works. There are traditions of intensity of late that aggregations over the armed and correlate live. It's lady orangeish, yellowish involvement. Bluish is called audit can even give a pure wavelength. How did they went on to even use the Great Lakes in the studio? Certified enough for me like right now I'm not using the Legal Aid. And then of course, the ringlets, the ring latest iPhone who acts are few inches. Do the high-tech mistake. Iphone can be held. If I use this one, this kind of reduces a few inches. And if I hold in the foreign string, it kind of looks like my chest, then that is convenient. If I'm sitting in docking when you're hyper standing Gulp, I need to have more height. And since a dried blood widens to a fairly large base at the bottom, it is not easy to have something, propping it up from the bottom layer carrying the wooden box or something or a 100, I can keep the Tramp word. It becomes somewhat unstable. In general, this height, this clipboard reaches something like a 4.54 feet Haidt. And at doing the ring laid at the height of the iPhone were living during late and then it's got Hague almost at this range, occupied the iPhone. So when I keep it at a distance length click, I'm doing it right now. I can comfortably shoot with my head. A little bit below that got as you can see. And and my upper half of the body is also visible. Usually I do not shoot in vertical format unless I wanted to show something which is specifically visible only in vertical format. 6. Hs 006 Audio: Now let's talk about the audio second. So in generally, the phone I fought, which I use its own microphone, is pretty good in picking up the waste quantity. But even if you don't want to use it and you use a MacBook, you can use the MacBook. And my MacBook has got full microphones. And then I make books which are now having these multiple microphones for good quality. So actually, a MacBook microphone is, has been rated as almost a professional microphone, even for people who want to sing. So I'm not talking of single reservoir releasing albums with people who are seemingly losing on YuJa singing. You're releasing on Instagram. Even for them, the MacBooks on internal microphone is good enough, it's very good quality. I, myself particularly used these points, which are Apple product, because one, they have a very, very good quality of picking up the audio. Secondly, it allows me to move around without worrying whether that Mike is positioned correctly or not. So fixed Mike is really good when I'm doing a podcast and I'm sitting in delivering some speech. But right now I'm showing you this to new oil go in this direction or that connection. I'm not really afraid that this microphone is not going to do it. Of course, when can also via Bluetooth microphone undergraduate here, that's your choice. In addition to all of this, I'll show you how this microphone system. And this is the styling for the microphone. Again, not very expensive t, and it's going to be expanded. This is the microphone that I use. If I am recording of what GST, or if I'm sitting in ballooning enduring electron. So this particular microphone is a Samsung or make. It has got the microphone and what the states, the state as well as the same. So the important thing is head is it is a cardioid and on the boat made of lake. So usually you want cardioid mic if you are willing to speak yourself and get it into Goddard. If you are doing a podcast where you're doing interviews. So somebody is sitting on the other side. You can either have a second mic or you can have an amnion makes the problem it only during mitosis. They also pick up a rough night is. So later on you may have to kind of do a nice disability reduction. So not the cost of the Samson Go make it up to get professional gradient lake, but it is the deepest professional grade make. So I had what they call something like 2500, which will be equivalent to something like 30 bothers. You might have seen that a lot of YouTubers and a lot of content creators, they have those which waves with a bad ignored and everything and large black things and looking very impressive. Their work, they will probably, I don't know, maybe performed better than this one. But in a small studio where either I doc or at those one more person is sitting and talking at close range. This does a very good professional job. And I'm not paid by these cities to know I already talked about the stain because this is the arm so it can be extended operand known based on whether we are sitting or standing and blocking. This thing. You might ask, what does this, this is a pop filter. So offering that is basically the position domain, position the buffering and in front of the mic. So that the hard constraints, which catalog of our MLK, they get really cut off by the pop filter and there is no unpleasant sudden noise in the recording. So that's why we use up offering coverage can be positioned district front of the main. You can spend as much money as you want. But if you want to go really economical and still produce it bigger, 90 percent reserve of professional microphone. You can emulate me, either use the MacBooks, microphones, microphones, and even even the old microphone of iPhone or some money 30, $40 in via central goal, make, make sure you buy the origin which has done cardiac features. So, so much about the audio. 7. Hs 007 Camera: Now in this video, let's talk or to the camera that we can use here. So as I already told you, I'm shooting almost exclusively on iPhone. Camera is of excellent quality. I also have Android samsung located in the camera. There is also an excellent quality that the whole point is that selfie camera, which we are concerned with because if we are using the real camera and then Ricard see ourselves right now wondering, I usually a certificate right here. So the selfie camera has to be of good quality. I can also use, as I've shown you in the middle part, I used by MacBooks can drop, which is also a very good camera. Lighting has to be good as an example. But if you're not satisfied and if you already used a professional gradients allowed or something like a video camera Ricardo, you are welcome to use it. But clotting person getting started issue did in video content creation. This is really good. 8. Hs 008 Lighting: Now let me say a few words about titillating parts. So lighting is no most important part off. Reduce your being as any professional usual during tell you, Mike, I'm not actually a professional reduce shooting person. I'm a person who was heavy on contained. My YouTube videos are about health care and reversal of diabetes and re-close my Skillshare courses a lot automated vehicles topics for delegated convict heavy. So I don't really create feature films and movies aggregate reduce which have contained for lay captive audience. So in such case, I'm not very, very trained on lading. And I do not even have professionally late other than the ring late and I've shown you and it usually suffices for me that lake they'd know in my studio, What's happening is I only have these lakes on top and the ceiling. Let me show you. So near the lakes in the air conditioning, which rent which you saw? Let me read just the because we're doing here. We'll have yeah. So I use only these links, right? No. But what happens because of the Lebanon close to the wall, you can see my shadow behind. If a district violated, then the shadow behind. But by enlarge, Since I use a good thing doing, I'm not really worried about these shadows because they are taken care off in lead and green-screen remove one thing. And I think this is a good segue about moving into editing, because when you are using a home studio like mine, you just shifted to a completely green detail because I wanted to talk something about it. So in this position you can see that behind me the green-screen Googlers love uniform. It's once you're going green here, It's another shade of green hair. And then there is a shadow that I haven't got string on the wall of my hands off my body. So these are variations in the green screen which should be handled in the software that they use. So next topic that I want to tell you which editing software to use to actually get off this. 9. Hs 009 Editing: Now in this video I'm going to talk about the editing software that they use because no studio is complete without an editing software. So first of all, the free software, if you're using a Mac, use a movie or DaVinci Resolve. Davinci Resolve is a professional grade software. It is one of the best software in the market and it is free of cost. So what's the catch? I mean, they make a lot more thing. So deployed this version 3, of course, I can do almost everything that professional school. The only problem with having GI disorders, it satisfies hunger. So if you don't really have a good GPU in your computer layer. The only thing I have three MacBooks and the only MacBook on enrichments swiftly is the one where I have 10 GB of GPU. And the one I'm showing you right now, it's an older book. It has only 1.8 GB of DPLL. And having tutors all your struggles on this, even my M1 MacBook externals. I have a 16 GB Windows computer on DAG also if flags. So DaVinci Resolve is, is that a source harder? And what if you have a computer which can, which is having something like ten GB of GPU that does the video RAM, then I think you are okay and use DaVinci Resolve. It has a learning curve. You will have a glucose in it because it's really, really complicated. It has all of their guns features that you can think of. But then they've gotten calls will be what? It's one of the best software, or do I use dove into the solenoid group? The reason is the same, that because of its resource hogging Mitchell, I cannot use it on all Mac computers. So and especially the current MacBook that I showed you, this is my earliest MacBook, does like six years old, 2015 MacBook. And it has got only 1.5 GB of GPU on which Da Vinci disorder doesn't really fly. I have three options for MacBook, which I use. And I'm hoping, which is done free of cost option for all and MacBook users. And it's fairly, fairly advanced, especially for a user who is beginning to create content. So it has got good in related to remove the chroma key, the green screen. It has got good equilibrium to what picture-in-picture. But it has limitations. Liquid cannot have unlimited number of layers. I'm really has its limitations. But if you are a beginner, I would say it is free of cost and it is 60 to 70 percent of professional grade software for editing. So it's a very much, very much wanted. So try it out. If you have already graduated about a movie and you do not have the, and you do not have the hardware to run down into dissolve. Then the choice for you is between Screenflow and the final cut from Apple. Now what is the difference? Screenflow was initially designed as a screen recording software. And it can also capture your video from the camera of your MacBook. But over the years, it became very many advanced. And today, ScreenFlow is a professional grade. Everything's off very fast, not a resourceful, already gotten very good keyboard shortcuts. So I'm ever do really, really do editing on it very, very fast. And I can do almost everything that I need as a content creator and not as, not as a movie maker. What does the director of professional documentaries and movies, but as a content creator for YouTube and courses, ScreenFlow is the best. And it's cost per day is roughly around 150 US dollars. So it's slightly expensive. And when you upgrade from one version to the next, then you have to pay out great place also. So it can be something like 39 to $4,950. But believe me, If you cannot use DaVinci Resolve and you already outgrown a movie, ScreenFlow is the next step for you. And last thing that I want to go, and what I use now is API. Apple's Final Cut Pro. And Final Cut Pro is proper, proper professional gradient video content creation. And it's just equal into Premier Pro from an OB. So these two are the top-level and softwares. Final Cut Pro is also somewhat expensive. It's about 300 plus US dollar. And it also has this problem that some of the things which you want to use when you are really, really growing as a YouTuber, maybe three years of ideas into a, into a YouTube channel. You may want to buy additional software for that. So emotion and compressor and then additional plugins. So, so many things out there in the, in the Final Cut Pro ecosystem, which cost at each level. So it started cheapest thing. So if you're already making money and making good money, autofill videos, go ahead and invest. But the delays by, if I look at pro or leaf, you have Want to these stages of iMovie ScreenFlow then go for Final Cut. Or if you have a machine, well, if you can put in an external GPU, then it will be best that you put in, you put in no simple dive into that zone, which is a very good software, except that its citizens harbor. One piece of advice. If you are planning to go for Apple's software metrics, iMovie or Final Cut Pro, to create libraries. This certainly occupy an unlocked and Glarus space. So like a five-minute video could actually balloon up to 15 GB and greedy GV or your hard disk. So you will require a lot of hard disk space if you're planning to use any of these. If you don't have it on your Apple machine, it may be a good idea, grew by really, really fast, either an SD card which is plus 10. So it works very fast. Or you buy an external hard drive which can be connected to turn the Work Boards for a very, very rapid net or transferring. Otherwise, it's quite possible that you may run into a problem. Creating a library is in the upper panel cut or in movies. Thank you. 10. Hs 010 Teleprompter: Now here I will show you the office side of the studio. So as you can see, there's a small cabinet care. And then there's the MacBook Air. No way I use it like this is because there's some things, most of my videos are impromptu extemporaneous speech, but some of them do have written script. And in that case I need to use a teleprompter. So dipole is a free piece of software and you can just google for it to end on lured me show you one. So as a teleprompter and on my screen, I know you regrade Norbert, you will. I'll make it full screen and then we'll LC, start presenting. It starts presenting in that foreign of this size. And when I say start, it starts with one thing, the text scholars up and they're going to control the speed. So usually if my iPhone is positioned like this, I can stand like this, lead whatever reading from a teleprompter. This is a big help, especially for the beginners who do not really have a lot of preformed talk for speaking in the video. And I don't really mind reify white or neutral in-between when I'm speaking. And I'm also able to quickly edited out of MapReduce, but it of course increases that video for it. So if you want to avoid DAG, await the editing of Jonathan Jansen chunks of renew, you can use a script and that's how I use it. On my Mac, it runs, I read it. And since it's right behind my iPhone and my eye contact with their audiences also, mark lost. 11. Hs 011 Conclusion: So in conclusion, you can see that I have created a very cost-effective home studio, which is very small in space just to hold 30 square feet lesser than a queen size. It has an microphones, which the union not really by you can use the normal microphones or film and book the camera rolls of the MacBook or the camera off your iPhone audio, good-quality Android phone, and probably a good tripod stand treated like cheap 500 rupees or like $10. Similarly, a ring light for illumination. Again, if I have 500, 1000 rupees dendrogram dollars and you, and nothing else.
