1. Owaves app introduction and general overview: Welcome to this course.
In this course, I will now be giving a general
overview of the course, what we're going to
be going through, we're going to be talking
about time management. Not only time management, but I'm going to be sharing a tool that I find very
helpful for me personally. Why? Because this tool is a
very visual way on how we can schedule it and things that are important to us so that they don't get missed or overlooked. This app is called a Waves. It's available for
the IOS software and it works on the ipad iphone or even on your
Macbook computer. Once you download it, you're going to
get a screen like this and you're going to click
on Day Plans Activities. Look at these different icons. We're going to be going through how you can schedule
your ideal day. And then maybe save
that day plan and then make sure that you make
time for what's important. I'm just going to conclude
by saying that Pond is very helpful because like
Stephen Covey was teaching, when you schedule something in, you're more likely to do it. If this course is
something that looks interesting to you,
you can check it out. We'll be going through
each of these icons. How to block it in,
how to put it in, and how to expand and
shrink the time blocks. The project will be to
make one ideal day, take a screenshot, upload, it for us to give
feedback to each other. Thank you so much.
2. Using this app to reduce anxiety and stay calm: All right, so let's
look at an example. What I noticed about this app is that it gives you
so much freedom. Freedom to have the
flexibility that when you have a plan in place
can make you more calmer. What I noticed in my
personal life is that when I had my study
blocks planned in, I don't have to always feel like I should be studying
all the time. If this study block is
9-11 I have it planned in when it's 08:00 or when it's like 03:00
I don't have to think, oh, what am I going to study? What am I going to study? I know I have my block in there. One trick is to
choose a location. You can even write
down a location here. Location could be library. My tip or trick is that I have a location set that
where I'm effective. I can put in my deep work. I can let family and friends know that this is the
time I'm studying. Then without feeling guilty, I can spend time over here like with family
or loved ones, one to two, give them
my full attention. Then here I could
play do my hobbies. At this time, it is a
reliever of anxiety. That's the first
takeaway of this app, is that once I have my work that I need to be done planned in just like that booked in. It's good to go like I
can freely enjoy my day. And then if you value exercise, you can put it in right
there the night before. You can have your gym clothes
and everything ready. Because you know that
you're going to be 08:00 that's the time going
to go to the gym. Another trick is that you write a little bit notes
about when and where. I learned somewhere
that you're more likely to do the habit
when you decide when and where you can even put notes like this time I'm going to play a Youtube video
of exercise workout. Yeah, when there 08:00
is already done. Then where it could
be living room, what you doing, put on
exercise court routine. Okay, so that's just
some tips and tricks.
3. Using this app to book time to study : Walk you through my process
of how I would plan my week, or let's say the
starting a semester. And I'm a student,
I go and I learn that they want to be successful
in this school year. I need to book time
outside the class to process my learning
and make more notes, and even read the chapter
before and after. Let's look at an example. Let's say I have a class
at 09:10 Nine to 11. The trick would be
the first book it in. How would you do that? You just go to the
right hand side, You'd grab it for the icon that I like would be
this little clipboard. I'm just going to
first remove this. Let's say the class
is nine to 11. Okay, I can put a note here. Chemistry, bring your book, operation notes. Okay, That's just an example. Why am I writing notes? Because they act as reminders. That's just a little tip. Now I'm going to leave a block
of time right here before, because that could
be for the commute or just for spontaneous
conversation. Just like afterwards as well. Right here at 11, I'm going to leave a little
bit time for walking, talking to the
professor or teacher, or even sitting there and
summarizing your notes. That's a trick that I learned, not to book everything back to back because things
happen, right? So you can stay calm and relax because you have a little
****** in between. Now, let's say I
learned that, okay? To be successful in this
class, attending it is one. But the time to look over your notes and read the chapter for next week,
that could be important. So what I'm going to do
here is I'm going to go, let's look at these books here. Now, during this day, this chemistry class day, I'll put 2-2 to 330. The reason why 90 minutes
is what I learned, that working in 60, 30 to 90 minute time
blocks is effective. It's from authors such as Tony Schwartz and Brian Johnson of Optimized that me talks about this work cycle of 90 minutes that would be the ideal If you have the stamina to do that long or you can
make smaller sessions, you can just grab
this from here and bring it down to just 1 hour. Or you can even do half an hour, but you can have a
little break in between, then you can have
a little break. And then you have another
session right there to 230 and have a little
break, a little space. And then you could
continue again, another one from 03:00 to 330. Okay, So you just grab it
from here and you shrink it. Let's try it from
here, or from here. If you're having a hard
time, like I am right now, with changing the start times, you can even do it
from right here. Three start time and 330 time. Okay. Start again, not 430. There you go. Let's see if that
will shorten it. Yeah, Shortened it till now. You have time for breaks in between and you could
be more focused. That's what I found
effective now. You might be thinking,
oh, every day you have to do this.
No, you don't have to. So you can go to day plans
and you can save this. If your Mondays are
consistently like this, you can call this
Monday plan pencil, call it like chemistry Mondays. Chemistry Mondays, All right. You can save it. Next
Monday comes around, you don't have to do
it all over again. Here's a Monday. You just
call it this and put it. Click it and just drag it on. There you go. Your Monday
is already all set. Calm and relaxed. You know that 02:00 you're going to be focus. 03:00 Nine to 11 is your class. You have made time for eating, time for loved ones,
time for play. What a great feeling.
That must be right.
4. My tips for planning my day with this app, starting with sleep: There will be just a
quick demonstration of how to actually grab the different icons and put them onto
the time wheel. The founder of this app, Roy, is a wonderful person. I believe he's a Dr. and just passionate
about well being. And I think they
done their research and they found that these are the elements of well being that are important
for well being. You can easily just
click and drag it and make time for these
elements of well being. You can start with I would, if you're a student or even
if you're having a new role, it's a parent, you
could just think first, for me it would be sleep, right? I would just try to decide what time do I
want to be in bed? The ideal time, start
with the sleep time. The reason why my trick
is that when you have your time set up for sleep
and you prioritize sleep, as many people will
teach and say, is that you sleep good, you make it a priority. You'll feel good, feel
fresh, ready for the day. If I know that 10:00
is my bedtime, I can start winding down and
preparing myself at 09:00 I can try the tips and tricks
like turning your phone on, vibrate are silent, are
turning it off, Avoiding it. So that I can calm
my brain down. And all these tricks I can do because I decided that I'm sleeping at 10:00
for example, right? Then another hack
or another trick is that some people say you need
time to digest your food. You don't want to put the sleep, you don't want to
eat right here at 10:00 and go to bed for 1015. Now when you have
your sleep set, I can work backwards. And I could say,
if I need 3 hours, what time would be good
like if I eat at seven? Right here is eight 2 hours. That's my food. Okay,
that works too. But let's go even earlier here. And then some people
say, you don't want too much of a gap between
your eating time from six. I can go work back
3 hours maybe. I'll have some food
here at grab this one. A little snack at
03:30 right here. That's just a
little trick that I notice that work
backwards works. When you're asleep then I
was neglecting exercise. But then when I was informed of the
importance of exercise, now I can actually
book it in right here. Guess what? Now that I booked
in, I can tell myself, like Stephen was teaching book these good things like appointments to the
Dr. would you miss it? No. It would be hard. You'd have to reschedule it. If you book an exercise time, you can say, you
know what, this is. Like an appointment the Dr.
or something I need to do, I need to try my
best to be there. Stephen Cub was teaching Dr. Stephen Cub
was teaching that. When you make a
commitment and keep it, you build your
integrity account. When you keep your
commitment and exercise at 11:30 You can even tell
your friend in your class, I'm going to work out at
11:30 I'm going to do it. You can ask them to hold you accountable and you
can even go together. Yeah, that's a little
tip and trick. This is time for loved ones. You can choose different icons. If you have a baby in
your life or a pet, you can change that icon and there's a
recommendation at the top. Exercise and sleep. This can be changed if you're into dancing or
whatever, Hobbies, changes to flow, time to clean, time for thinking, walking around in a bookstore
or whatever you decide. Remember you can do
the notes as well. You can click on it and add a little note and alert as well. I hope that, I hope it makes it clear to you how to
easily use this. Take care, and I look forward
to seeing your project.
