About This Class

When was the last time you created a piece of art without following any rules?

Art can be very liberating if you forget about how you see objects every day and create your own image of them, using the shapes and the colours of your OWN choice.

In this class, we will unleash our creativity and dive deep into simple abstract art, by breaking the common rules of nature and using our own colour choices to draw patterned leaves.

You're welcome to join the class if you're a beginner or an intermediate, or you simply have an interest in colours and abstract art.

I've selected leaves for this class because they're an easy shape to draw and you can get creative with your own pattern design - and they're also perfect for beginners and those who haven't explored abstract art before.

Inside the class, you'll find everything you need from the list of equipment, to process steps and easy to follow sketching and colouring tutorials, so you can start working on your own piece of art as you follow along with the videos.

So if you're interested in exploring your unique colour choices and figuring out your abstract art style, join me on this class and let's get creative together for the next hour!

1. Let's get creative!: Hi and welcome to installation art studio. In this class, you're going to learn how to explore your color choices and unleash your creativity and drove pattern leaves using your own color choices. Instead of following the common rules of nature. I'm going to show you how you can use fiber color pens to draw simple and creative leaves and introduce you to the basics of abstract art. You can forget about the familiar object drawing and dive deep into your creative side. You're welcome to join the class if you are a beginner or an intermediate, or you simply have an interest in colors and abstract art in general. Inside this course, I will be drawing two different leaves using the same process of sketching the patterns with pencil first and then coloring with fiber pens. I've selected leaves because they are an easy shape to draw and you can get creative with your own pattern design. And there are also perfect for beginners and those who haven't explored abstract art before. Art has always been my way to escape from the busy work life. And sketching using simple and affordable materials is one of the best ways to express emotions and the stress from the daily workflow. I've been into art since the age of five and I continued to grow my art practice everyday. Inside the course, you will find everything you need from the list of equipment to process steps and easy to follow sketching and coloring tutorials. You can start working on your own piece of art as you follow along with. I've also prepared a class project for you in the end of the class, which you can read more about under the projects and resources section. In case you are interested in participating and sharing your work with me and other students, either for inspiration or for feedback. If you're interested in exploring your unique color choices and figuring out your abstract art style. Join me on this class and let's get graded together for the next hour. 2. List of equipment.: Alright, so the equipment that we need for this class is first a drawing pad. I go for the size A4 because I like it for small and simple drawings like this one in this course. But if you already have a different size available at home, you can use it as well. Then we have pencils. So it's important to start with pencil because you can fix mistakes, especially when you're starting with a sketch. And then afterwards we can move the colors and the colors. I have this double-ended fiber tip pens. These are colored pens and I have 72 ones. If you have a collection that has less colors as well. So you do not have to have as many colors as I have here as long as you have at least five of them. What I like about these is that they are double ended and they have two different sizes. The first size is three millimeters and it's good in case you want to cover some large spaces because it will save you a lot of time. And then we have the thinner one, which is the half a millimeter. This is good for the answers and the borders of the drawing. And if you want to draw just some smaller spaces. Here, I have a pencil sharpener, so it's needed in case the pencil breaks and I have to sharpen it again, or in case I want to draw some really thin lines. Here we have an eraser, so this one is useful in case I made some mistakes during the first sketch. I want to fix them. This isn't for the equipment for this class. And let's move on to the next video and get started on sketching with a pencil. 3. Sketching the leaves with a pencil.: Alright, so I'm going to start right now with drawing the sketch. And I want to go for something really simple because the goal of this drawing is not to get really creative with the shape, but to use the colors and to get a little bit wild where the color choices. So if you would like to follow along and apply the same steps that I'm doing here with the shape that I want to go for, which is leaves. You can do that. Of course, if you have something else in mind, then you can just draw it from your own imagination or if you find some inspiration on the Internet. So what I want to go for is something really, really simple. So the shape of the leaves, basically I rose leaf. So the first thing I want to do is just to draw where the leg, I think I will have two leaves. And even if you decide to go for leaves as well, just like I'm doing right now. You do not have to apply the same shape of this one if you want to go for a differently like a grape leaf or something else that you'd like. Then I wouldn't draw a smaller one right here. It's connected to the bigger leaf. And do not worry about making mistakes when you are drawing with a pencil because it is very easy to fix. If you draw a different size than the one you have in mind, then this is your space to fix it until you come up with something that's your life. Now this goes to emphasize how important it is to start with a pencil instead of the colors right away. Because you will have some space to change your mind until you are happy with the end results. Alright, so this looks okay. I'm going to start right now with any details. So since we want to go ahead and get a little bit creative with the colors, because the basic is to go with green leaves and maybe sometimes different grades of green. But my purpose is to go a little bit outside the box and maybe add some blue colors are peripheral. And this is why I want to add some shapes inside so I can fill it up with the colors that I will be selecting later. So I think I want to draw some lines first. And it doesn't have to be the same shape as the leaf. That's where all familiar with it can be. Anything else? I think I would be deleting those lines right now, but just because I want position to be clear to me before I draw some more details. I think I would just raise the Olympics so I still can see them, but they're not as visible. Own space to fill up the drawing with anything that you have in mind. It can be stars, it can be smaller leaves inside. It can really be anything. So the purpose of this class is not to do something basic, but just to unleash creativity inside with a very simple drawing, like a leaf or a heart or a tree or anything else that you want to go with. I decided to go with leaves because in case you have not done this before, we can start testing some creative limits of yours and try to break that barrier of what is common and what is familiar to us when we go outside of the nature of what is it that we see? And how can you try to change that into making it into something abstract? And especially when we move on to the step of adding the colors, you will see that maybe you will want to go for something green, and then you will discover that maybe you want to keep the rules of nature or maybe you want to break them until and add some red, yellow, purple colors or whatever that you want to go ahead and add that to your drawing. But in my case, I think I want to go for something really different. So feel free to follow the same steps as I am doing right now. I'm just going to add two lines here. Might be a little bit difficult if you were an absolute beginner to start from scratch and grow something from imagination like I'm doing. But I really want you to give your creativity a chance and just go ahead with whatever feels comfortable to your eyes. And you want to go ahead and draw it on your canvas. And there's nothing wrong with starting from scratch in case you feel like you're really unhappy with the results and you want to change them to something else. As long as you are drawing with the pencil, it's okay to have a change in heart and keep trying until you're happy with the sketch off the drawing that you are going with. I'm comfortable right now drawing these squares. I want to apply more of them on the other side. And I don't want to be left and the right sides to be identical. This is another rule that I want to break in this drawing. So I want to just add a detail whenever I feel like it. That's another nice thing about drawing from imagination and growing a little bit outside the box. Right now I'm going to move to the other one. And I think I would want it to look a little bit different. So not necessarily because they belong to the same like right here, that they're supposed to be identical. So I think I want For something like the opposite side. So this one is going vertical. I think I want the other one to be horizontal. So first, just this middle line right here. Maybe it's just smaller lines next to the ones that have bigger space in between. So we were just a few triangles right here. I think I'm happy with the results. So if you've been able to follow along so far and draw your own, I really hope you were able to feel that sense of freedom when you are drawing. So you're not supposed to be following along with a typical leaf or whatever the shape that you selected. But you are Exploring your imagination and paste dressing, just adding some shapes that you're comfortable adding. In my case, it was those squares right here and the lines wherever you went with, I really hope that you enjoyed the exercise of just feeling that what is it that you want to draw here and just going ahead and adding it on your Canvas. Right now, I'm done with the sketch, and let's move on to selecting some colors. 4. Picking colours.: So I want my leaves to have different colors and color collections because they have two different shapes. So I'm gonna go ahead and deselect the colors for the first one. And I think I want to add some blue and purple. And this one speaks to me a lot. I'm gonna go ahead and select it. And maybe something like sky blue. So something like this. I live with darker blue. And I also wanted to add some black and gray. Now I feel like I need to add a fire colors, something that breaks this darkness. And I think maybe an orange or a lighter one. Here. I liked the combination of these colors for this leaf and for this one I want to go with something more red or yellow. So I think I'm gonna go for this one right here, for maybe even this pink or fuchsia color. I want to go for really dark blue again. Maybe, hello as well. They might be changing my mind later because first I'm going to start with the edges and then maybe I'll start coloring. But so far, I like those. I do want to go for a different color of pink. I think maybe something like this one or even maybe this one right here. Right. I feel like those colors are enough. I think I want to take back maybe one of these, so I'm just going to return this one because those colors are already very similar. But I do like the combination. Maybe I just want to add this yellow right here, so I have two grades of yellow. So I'm happy with these ones. I hope you're able to also have some options. As I said, as long as you have more than five colors, it should be fine if you want to go with using the same colors for both leaves. In case you went to the same sketch, then of course, feel free to do that. So whatever you feel like you want to see on your sketch is the color that you should go for. It's not necessarily that you should apply the same steps as what I'm doing. So let's go ahead and start coloring the first leaf. 5. Colouring from imagination - First leaf: Alright, so I'm going to start with the first leaf and we'll be using the color collection right here. So I'm going to start with the dark blue. And take the second side first. I think I want to color this area right here with blue. So first I'm just going to redraw the line. So you can start with any place you are comfortable with. It's just from my color composition. I like to start with the color in the middle. But if you want to start with the edges, you can do that. So now I'm going to switch to the other side and just fill it up. So you can see those lines are much thicker. So I'd save you some time when you are filling up the spaces. I think too, so I don't draw outside of it. I'll just reuse the thinner side. And I will move to another color. I think with this light blue, I want to fill up these small squares right here. I think I want to do the same for the other side. Then I will try to fill the spaces outside. The blue color. So I think I liked the combination of say, gray and light blue. I have to be a little bit careful around nuclear side and go over it. In case you do, You do not have to be very worried about it because he can always tried to improvise the drawing, then do something about it. Which is also why it's nice to start with very simple drawings like this leaf right here. So it's not very complicated. Especially for beginners. Then you can always just update the drawing and go for something more complicated like Mondelez and so on. But as I start, this could really help you unleash your creativity and the color choices you go for. I think it's useful to use thinner edge here. Now we'll just wait for it to dry just to make sure that the color is even. So I think I want to start adding some orange right here just to break this darkness. I think maybe this set color in the middle. So I'm going to fill up this line. I think it's safe to use. They catch you. Then I'll just go back into the darker blue. So I'm just going to fill these edges first. I'll be using the purple. Now these sacro-idyllic more time because they're very small. So far I'm happy with the collection, right? So I want to find a color for this middle part right here. I really like to go for the light blue, but I feel like there's already enough of it in this area because I might also be adding it on the edges. So maybe I will go with the miter orange. I think I want to darken the middle orange and you can see the difference between them. Right? So I don't feel like there's enough purple. So I want to add a little bit more thing. I want to, instead of having more blue here, I think I want these to be in purple, starting to come together. I just have to fill out some more spaces. I think I want to go for something a little bit dark. Maybe here on the edges. Once again, I tried to define the edges first and then fill it up with the edge. Thread, so the left side seems to be more together. I just have to fill this last space right here. I do not seem to find a color that could fit from those swatch that I selected. Maybe I want to go for the light blue because I wanted to add two more light blue on the outside area, but I ended up going for purple. Yeah, I think I'm going to continue with this one. And the last one right here. Red. So I'm gonna go back to this dark gray so I can fill up this space right here. I just found the large spaces, but now I have to go to the thinner edge. Now I can draw the axes off this part. If you do not have those colored pens. And you only have one face on a thin warm might take you a little bit longer, but it's okay if you did not go for a very large drawing. Right? So now I'm gonna go ahead and do this final part way through as well. I also wanted to life to me in his coat colors. I'm just going to continue connect them right here. So now I'm just going to go some specialty. I'm not comfortable with the state that's around the edges, so I'm just going to switch back. It's been one. You can really start seeing how the colors are really abstract compared to how it usually leaves the plaque, which is really liberating. To see that it is your creative side that created this art. And it's not just something that usually people are familiar with. And I will start with the first one right here. So if my dry a bit and I will see some spaces that need to be recolored. But right now I want to move to the second one. 6. Colouring from imagination - Second leaf.: Alright, so for the second one, the first thing I want to color is black because I want the two likes to have the same color. So I will be borrowing this one from the first selection and then just add the color closely to the edge. And that will be changing it as I go up to the leaf. You don't have to do that. If you have something else in mind. For the colors are very different. For the second leaf or the second shape that is electrified own drawing. This is just a personal preference. Right now I'm going to start with the yellow areas. Because I want this leaf to have a lot of fire colors like the red and the pink that I selected. I want the yellow areas to be the larger ones. So I'm just randomly selecting places. Focusing a little bit about composition. Not so much that I feel like there are rules that I need to follow with just spreading the yellow color around the leaf and the shape that I selected for it. I think I just want to add Last one here on top, maybe the second one right here. So far, this will be older yellow. Just for now. I wanted to take this dark pink. Maybe this one right here. I think I want to add a third one as well. So as you can see, the two collections are very different. I'm happy with that. But in case you feel like they do not fit inside one canvas, then please feel free to go ahead and select one color collection for both shapes. This blue is very similar to the one on the left. We'll just color this part. The flu as well. I think I want to add some darkness that from the blue on the top. I think I'm gonna go with this part. I do not want to add a lot of darkness and this one, because I want the fire colors to shine. But just for some contrast. Now I will take this red. Maybe I guarantee it. This part is Guam. Nothing I want to add a little bit more red because I really liked the color and the effect on the rest of the colors I selected for this link. Just to go back to blue for this small space. This one right here. I think I will do the same on the other side. This one right here as well. So now I will go for the second yellow. I don't think it's very different. I think I actually want to change that too. So I didn't have a lung hello in it. So maybe I will just borrow this orange one from the first collection. Just going to try to color on top of it. I think this is better. I think I don't have enough pink. So I'm going to go for some more of this one. So what I like in this process is that you improvise as you go. So as you can see, I'm just finding some empty spaces, some whitespaces and just filling in, filling them up with the color that I feel like I want to add in that space. Which is again, really liberating for beginner artists when they just do not want to cover face something. And instead they just wanted to do something abstract and simple at the same time. I think this space could be flow. And maybe some of these lines right here. Right? So I have this space to be filled. So I think I'm gonna go with orange. Now I have some small spaces to fill. So I'm not sure about this one. I want to go for blue, but I'm worried, but we'll get to dark. But it just seems like I already have so many of these colors. So maybe the yellow one should feel fine. All right. I think I'm happy with this one and now I just have to fill some small spaces. So again, I feel like I'm running out of colors from this election of these ones. I think I want to add something a little bit darker. So I'm just gonna go ahead and look at selection that I have. Somebody do something like this. I think this one will fits really nicely. Go for blue, for this one, I like the contrast between the blue and yellow. I think I also want one of these lines to be blue as well. Then I'm gonna go back to red. Just cover this line right here. For these two, I think I want to go for something like somebody being yellow. This one is too similar to the pink, so I'm just gonna go with blue, dark brown again. Apply the same here. So the last thing is this one. You would not want to go for yellow, orange. The best choice. Right? So it looks colored in. So I'm just not happy about having changes off the break right here. So I'm just going to try to give it another line was drawn quickly. Some colors, I like that. When they dry, you can see that there's two lines on top of each other. While some colors, it's easy to cover up until it looks a little bit better right now, but I'm still happy with the results. This is it for drawing with the fiber colors. And again, I went for something very simple like this one. I didn't have that a lot of details, so I barely went for some less squares and some lines right here because I want it to be very simple. And especially if this is your first time trying to throw outside the box and give your creativity a chance and then see what he will come up with. A really hope it was easy for you to follow along the class and they'll be able to draw as you watch the video. If you went for something else, I would love to see your work. So the class project is actually to share what you have created by following the video. So if you went for a different shape or different color collections than that, please take a picture of it and the included in the project and resources section below. If you want any feedback on your work, then please feel free to ask. Otherwise, I would just simply love to see what you came up with for inspiration and also for sharing it with the other students. This is it. And I really hope that you enjoyed the course and I will see you in my upcoming one.
